Will All the Garlic Use Cause Bad Breath and Eliminate Through the Skin?

02/20/2012: Susan from Palos Park, Il : "I am new to this site. A friend told me about it after she suggested it for a sinus infection I could not get rid of. My question is, with all this consumption of garlic, and it being raw, does it still give you the bad breath and come out of your pores as well? Thank you so much for your help. I love this site!"

Remedies Needed for Cough Caused by Sulfur Dioxide

02/20/2009: Theo from Bourne, MA: "Please, help.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I live in a very contaminated area. Just recently found out the awful smell that is always apparent is sulfur dioxide. They said it was from our dump that takes junk from building sites from entire area of S.E. MASS. Don't know what's it's from really. Don't care either. But it is slowly killig me. We had plans of moving several years ago, but due to sudden shift in our economic situation, we have been forced to stay put.

Two years ago suffered bad (ER) case of pleursey; was completely unable to breathe and my cough lasted months. Last summer was so SOB, but the air conditioner helped.

I am an RN (although changed careers over 25 years ago) but since have used homeopathy very successfully. I plan on ordering sulphuricum acidum. Do you have any other suggestions?

Know of any wealthy stars that are willing to "sponser an American family" and help them move. They just might save a life. (only kidding)

Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have an ozonator. I have read on your site that it is beneficial in some situations. My sister thinks you should not be in the room when it's running and has made me paranoid about using it."

02/23/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "A sulfur dioxide can easily be sulfuric acid when it comes into contact with water, or moist area such as the breathing passages in the lungs and throat. Therefore using a baking soda solution aerosol, and breathing only briefly with a solution of sodium bicarbonate, such as a 5% solution for example should neutralize some of the acid. The other thing is sulfur dioxide causes acid burns along the breathing passage, hence, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/4 teaspoon of potassium citrate (or potassium bicarbonate) is taken three times a day should neutralize the effects of the acid caused by the sulfur dioxide, or sulfuric acid when it hits water. The throat burns should be most help with any aloe vera oil or aloe vera drinks to speed up the healing caused by the chemical burns, as aloe vera is known to help against most forms of burns, provided the body is properly alkalized. To stop cough a fast remedy is 3-4 drops of peppermint oil, anytime a cough occurs. Vitamin E should also help reduce the scarring associated with the acid causing scars.

Child with Multiple Issues

11/28/2007: Pei : "Ted, My one year old daughter was just diagnosed with double eye infection, double ear infection, croup (barking coughs due to viral infection) and intestinal virus. She is feeling so bad and I am feeling very sorry for her. Please tell me how I can help her. I asked the doc and was told there was no supplement for a one year old available. She got antibiotic shots, put on augmentin for 10 days , nasal decongestant , antihistamine, cough suppressant and antibiotic eye drops. Please advise. A concerned mother."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "A cough medicine is best to use 1-2 drops of peppermint oil A xylitol solution of nasal spray, may work best for'ear infection, or drinks in small amount to help with sore throat. Eye problem or infection a 2% Magnesium chloride solution or a colloidal silver solution used as drops to the eyes help in most cases. In most cold situation, the body's pH is acid. Hope this helps!"

Safe Remedies for an Infant?

07/28/2007: H : "I have a 20 month old son and I've taken him to the doctor for a cough but they say its allergies. The have given him some allergy medicine but it isnt helping his cough at all. He is up ALL night coughing but its not so bad during the day. I dont like him taking medicine but I will try anything safe. Do you know any safe remedies that I could try for him so he could sleep at night without all this coughing? Please help... Thank you. Also I heard ACV is good for acne. Would I need to put it directly on my face or take it orally?"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "A relatively mild remedy against coughs are peppermint leaves and sometimes parsley. The active ingredient of peppermint leaves are the peppermint oil. I take myself either peppermint oil (a drop or so) to help with the coughing but parsley and celery are less effective.

A peppermint leaves are relatively milder than peppermint oil that can also help with the couging. Usually most cough medicines add sugar which prevents people with coughs to stop since the sugar perpetuates the viral and sometimes bacteria colonies that is found from the throat due to excessive and stick mucus, which in some cases are generated in small part by biofilms of microbes perpetuating itself.

Since the body has difficulties ridding of coughs due to sweet and fatty foods, the amino acid uptake by the liver prevents detoxification, further causing allergies. Therefore a simple remedy to reduce mucus is N Acetyl Cysteine which liquifies the mucus. Lemon with baking soda alkalizes the body and does reduce some allergies due to an unknown source of fungus. Bentonite clays mixed in water to apply on skin can remove some problem.

Also whenever coughing occurs, the body is acidic and the liver becomes congested. So reducing the acidity and reducing some liver congestion through some amino acid supplements may also help.

I found that if I dip clove oil using a toothpick, and then put that toothpick in a small drinking water and stir it, the water that is drank helps reduce some irritation and tiredness associated with coughing. Clove oil by the way has an antioxidant levels measured on an ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity), scale of 10,000,000 unit, which is I think the world's most powerful antioxidant. The next closest one is not even close at only 25,300 units (chinese wolfberries).

Also I heard ACV is good for acne. Would I need to put it directly on my face or take it orally?

Apple cider vinegar or just plain distilled vinegar can be applied topically to kill the bacteria that causes acne. It's the frequency of application that kills the red bumps. I usually use acne as a measure of my body's antioxidant level, sugar and zinc status from the acne. Acne starts whenever I eat high sugar and oily fatty foods (vegetable oils & chocolates), lowered vitamin E levels and lack of zinc (if my face is also oily).

This sets of a chain reaction of causing acne -along with a mild constipation and the love of choclates and ice cream! The reason why research is inconclusive as to the cause, and I don't blame them, is that acne is caused by multiple factors, even when urinary pH is below 7 (usually its 5!) and the body is acid, causes acne since bacteria grows more easily in that environment also.

One easy way to PROVE that acne is caused by eating ice cream or eating chocolate is to get people who already have a history of acne eat ice cream and chocolate, it works quite consistent there and pops up in less than 24 hours.

The reason why some people don't know the cause is they don't observe what they ate 24 hours ago at the very least. Perhaps its not in the commercial interest to do so, so I find young people with no history of acne and it can easily be manipulated (in research anyway) to prove that acne is not caused by chocolates and ice cream. Of course people with no history of acne are not mentioned in research or manipulation of the selection processes, since sometimes the people who hired the research can sometimes come from the chocolate manufacturers, so they do have certain expectations as to the outcome. Even if it doesn't look nice to do so, they can come from "institutes" whose single biggest contributors are the the very same people. The only way to be sure there's no manipulation is for me to find out myself through my own experience and observations!

Since acne bacteria cannot survive (most of them) in pH below 4 or above 8 or 9(a really tough one cannot survive above 9, but most of them cannot do so at 8), it makes for apple cider vinegar and vinegar to be able to treat acne by the acidity at around 3.5 pH, while milk of magnesia is about pH of 9.4 (my own milk of magnesia I measured - but without the aluminum additives). In the same manner, a small amount of milk of magnesia applied to the skin can also relieved of allergies (they are soothing) and the reason why is the pH kill off to some extent the fungus (although ammonium chloride solution does a better job), while the COMMON additives in most milk of magnesia ALSO CONTAINS peppermint oil.

It is therefore sometimes helpful to add a little baking soda (such as 1/4 teaspoon in one glass of water to reduce SOME coughs) taken at 1/2 tablespoon at a time (assuming of course I am a child) but or even 1/4 teaspoon of milk of magnesia in 1/2 glass of water taken only 1 tablespoon or 1/2 tablespoon also kill off the bacteria/viruses by the alkalizing actions of both antibacterial magnesium, the peppermint common additives to reduce the irritations can also help coughing. The reason for the coughing are really the microbes that exists in the biofilm and excess mucus. So killing them off by alkalization or peppermint (they also kill the microbes) works to some extent.

However, I believe alkalizing in the long run raising the immune response and N Acetyl Cysteine helps stop the coughs by liquefying the mucus, thus reducing the irritation of the bacterial buildup in the mucus.

Sometimes I find cod liver oil, which contains vitamin A and vitamin D, but those require more time. Vitamin D by the way raises the immune system and vitamin A normalizes the mucus.

As to the allergies, I have more than my share of them in the past. One peculiarly simple kids vitamin C - those chewable kinds (if I were a small children of course) if I was allowed to take as much of those I wish until it causes some loose stools, quite often, believe it or not, my allergies and my coughs disappeared like magic!

The reason why that is so is the vitamin C has sufficient antioxidants and some antiviral properties in itself sufficient to kill them, and the most telling is whenever vitamin C is taken until loose stools occurs is helps relieved the body of excess bacteria buildup in the stools so the body can get rid of the bacterial overload and will shift its immune system focus on healing itself of the coughs and the allergies, rather than the bowel areas.

Therefore, while peppermint leaves, and sometimes the peppermint oil quickly relieves of coughs, toothpick stirred clove oil in water helps reduce irritation and regain energy, or even a small amount of baking soda, to help with the coughs. I believe it is the N Acetyl Cysteine supplements most helpful for my coughs and they do have dose for a child as the N Acetyl Cysteine is an amino acid. However in the long run, I would be also most help with coughs AND allergies by just taking plenty of vitamin C until I have the loose stools, being most helpful, at least for me for BOTH conditions after suffering a debilitating allergies for months in the past."

Picky Child Cough Remedy?

05/26/2007: Jennifer from Paris, France: "I'm looking for remedies that picky young children will be even willing to try. My 4yo son has asthma and is currently coughing even while being treated with Seretide and Ventoline. I would love to find something natural that he would take that would cure his coughing. Thanks!"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Jennifer: Yes, there is a simple, cough medicine, that is better than over the counter medicine. Just add peppermint oil 1-4 drops directly or in drinking 1/2 glass water for more sensitive children. Eating peppermint leaves helps too.

Secondly, a simple amino acid such as N Acetyl Cysteine 50-100 mg a day, will reduce the mucus by liquifying, and thus reducing the throat irritation.

1/8 teaspoon of baking soda taken twice a day in 1/2 glass of water on an empty stomach causes the children to be less stress and more relaxed by alkalization, but not necessarily sleepy and this helps reduce the cough when the body's stress level is reduced.

Some twice weekly dose of small amounts of vitamin E and vitamin A will take a while to reduce the cough, but I found it is the oil soluble antioxidants that helped reduce the coughs. It appears therefore that strict avoidance of fried foods and potato chips or hydrogenated fats, can help reduce coughing also.

There are other much more effective remedies not mentioned here, but I am in the process of doing some experimentation just to make sure before I post them. The ones mentioned here has work well and used them myself."

Mysterious Condition, Dry Cough

05/08/2007: Adero from Kampala, Uganda: "Dear Ted, I am a Uganda, at aged 40. I have been suffering from this disease since 1980. Sometimes I get cough which is so dry especially at night and take time to go within shortest time it comes back. I have been on treatment for many years, but not natural drugs. please where can i find those natural remedies in Uganda. I need help I want to live and my children are still young. the last one is one year old."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Adero: Eat plenty of peppermint leaves, or a couple of drops of peppermint oil. I am sure if you can find BHT (a food preservative) which I use to reduce the cough. They seem quite effective. If Uganda have N Acetyl cysteine in drug stores those help too. Taking some vitamin A once a day, 25000 i.u. will slowly reduce the cough. If you can take 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water, twice a day that would help at least remove some dryness. However, green tea NO SUGAR AND NO MILK taken all day will help stop dryness of mouth directly. The secret is NO SUGAR and no milk, the destroy completely the beneficial effects of green tea. Your mouth should no longer dry by the next day. Take at least 4 bottles (500 cc) of green tea per day and you can add some sea salt to restore electrolyte imbalance, such as 1/4 teaspoon per liter of water. I found that people who drink a lot of water have dry coughs because drinking too much water quickly depletes the body of salts (electrolytes) so adding some sea salt will restore that problem. i have the same problem too as I sweat easily, so taking those helps restore immune system, along with alkalizing."

Needs Remedy for a Hacking Cough

05/01/2007: Becky : "Hi Ted,e again. That concoction you gave me using baking soda, peroxide and water has really soothed my sore throat.....now if only I could quit coughing. Can you suggest a good remedy for a hacking cough? Thanks again,"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Becky:

The baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and water basicallyworks better than cayenne pepper. Coughing takesawhile to get over, but the one that helped me themost (and I once coughed for almost a year) until itstopped, was taking menthol crystals, tiny amounteverytime there is an urge to cough. If you can't get them, the closest one is peppermint oil, about 4drops. No sugar as it worsens the cough and no coughmedicines it worsens the coughs as it always havesugar.

Some N Acetyl Cysteine 100 mg - 500 mg/day helpsreduce the mucus where the microbes basically existsas a biofilm, causing the coughs. Vitamin A helps, butthose are taken only twice or thee times a week.

Certain biofilms can be reduced or destroyed withtaking SSKI (Saturated solution of potassium iodide)of about 2-4 drops in a glass of drinking water insmall sips (usually 10 minutes apart) at a spacedinterval of about 6-8 hours using that same glass. Ifthe biofilms are destroyed, the coughs should go away.

It takes about a couple of weeks for it to reduce atleast for me with the chronic coughs, which lastedalmost a year. Keep your neck warm. A cold neck alwayscauses coughing so warm scarf around the neck canhelp, especially in cold rooms or during sleep. Somepeople go further with a hot water bag on the neck, but not too hot of course. A high temperature of 103-104 degree Fahrenheit usually kills the microbes thatexists in the throat and worsens the irritationwhenever the temperature are cooler, which they tendto flourish."

Best Relief for Cough and Sinus?

04/19/2007: Debra from Elwood, Nebraska: "I have had a cough for yrs and chornic sinustius it gets bad enough that i can never tell if its the sinus infection breaking up and draing down my throat or if its a cold, I have been trying to get it cleared up now for the past 6 months i have problems with my teeth decaying cause of being unable to brush properly for about a year after my accident and here lately i have been having problems sleeping at night and get very tired during the day would the oilpulling be a way to start or is there another way you would advise to start first? as i have about 20 pounds of hardware(metal) in my body now and they are placed in my upper back, knee and hip."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Two conditions seem to crop up with people with similar conditons, high heavy metal and acid body. The more acid it is the more the body increases metals in the bloodstream, as acid eats metal, much like acid eats most anyting.

Therefore a simple remedy that alkalizes the best is 8 teaspoon of lime or lemon juice plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda taken twice a day. The citrate form I found works best in alkalizing the body.

In case brushing is difficult, after brushing the teeth, I would use 1% hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash a couple of times, then I would do the oil pulling. Then brush the teeth again to remove any excess oils, or use appropriate water rinse if possible.

Fungus tends to grow in both acidic environment and high heavy metals. Dead cells decay by becoming acid first before the fungus starts further decay, this is nature's way of decomposition. However in a healthy living person with an acid condition, this is premature and alkalizing is at least one of the ways you can stop them.

For coughs, I would use pure peppermint oil 1-2 drops. It basically kills the virus or other bacteria causing as well as reducing the sinus problem. A stronger one I sometimes use, is menthol crystals, which is quite tiny, about 1/16 inch in diameter, taken also, for a more chronic conditions. The menthol kills the virus and bacteria components by forming a newer compound.

A baking soda, or preferably potassium bicarbonate moutwash can also kill the sore throat and sometimes the cough. The mouthwash mixture is 1 teaspoon per 1/4 or 1/3 glass of water, approximately."

Long-term Cough?

03/20/2007: Suzej from Tyler, TX: "I have had a cough for over 10 years. Yes, it is daily. I have been treated for bronchitis, asthma, reflux. I have had all kinds of medications and then some. Nothing has worked. I have it most of the day but I do not cough at night as long as I lay down. If I get up for anything, I start coughing again. I have been tested for everything. It is a deep cough. I have nothing to loose. I am going to the store tomorrow and buy ACV (vinegar usually is a trigger to worsen my cough) so we will see. Has anyone else had a cough that has lasted for years. My file is 12 inches thick."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Well, decades ago I was not healthy either. I coughed for a year also, and what helped me the most but rather slowly anyway, was n Acetyl Cysteine, 500 mg. a day, using sodium bicarbonate/potassium bicarbonate as a mouthwash, and most important of all was taking a tiny amount of menthol crystals stopped the coughs within seconds.

Alkalizing taking baking soda 1/2 teaspoon two times a day plus apple cider vinegar or just baking soda alone also helped. Vitamin Sodium ascorbate help, but I had to take over two months along with the other remedies for more than a month. The dose was 1000 mg./day in case you are wondering. Zinc seems to help, but it takes a little time, the preferred form is zinc gluconate, zinc acetate, taken 50 mg for once a week, at least for me anyway.

Most helpful for me was the N Acetyl Cysteine, the menthol crystals, followed by alkalizing baking soda.

Doctor's medications made the cough worse for me and I went right straight through to Emergency rooms from antibiotics side effect."

06/22/2007: Sarah from Toronto, Canada replies: "This is for Suzej from Tyler tx. I have had my cough for 14 years. It took doctors 10 years to finally figure it out. Only a cat scan showed it. It is called Bronchiectasis. There is no cure."

04/01/2009: Terry from Sidney, BC Canada replies: "I have been diagnosed with asthma which I use an inhaler every day. But when I pick up a virus or cold I get this very deep cough, don't keep food down for days I cough so hard and so deep and it lasts for weeks and I mean sometimes 6 weeks - can lay down, sit down or standup, the cough is just brutal. Someone please help me out here, am going to try ACV but maybe there is more to this."

Child with Multiple Issues

Pei : "How much and what kind of fluid do I dilute the peppermint oil with? How do I alkalize a one year old without overdoing it? Do I just follow your alkalizing formula? I appreciate your reply."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "How much and what kind of fluid do I dilute the peppermint oil with? You can add it in 1/4 glass of water, or take it directly depending on how sensitive people are with peppermint. Most children seem to like peppermint, but not everyone. The ones who do not like it need to be added to the drinking water. How do I alkalize a one year old without overdoing it? Do I just follow your alkalizing formula? 1/8 (or 1/16 - maybe too weak) teaspoon of baking soda in 1/8 glass of water should generally bes sufficient once or twice a day. This should have minimum problems."

Mysterious Condition, Dry Cough

Sarah from Toronto, Canada: "Ted of Bangkok suggested crystals of menthol to stop cough. My pharmacist was alarmed, he says it is quite toxic and should not be taken internally."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Most cough syrup, Hall's Metholyptus candies, and many cough drops have menthol in it. And the amount a tiny specs is about the same amount they add in candies. The issue about cough drops is the sugar fuels the coughs and sugar should not be added. In event menthol crystals are used, you can always eat plenty of peppermint leaves, which they derive menthol from. Also eucalyptus and menthol drops was actually a folk medicine before the age of commercialism started using candies with menthol in it."
