Natural Remedies to Prevent Kidney Disease

Last Modified on May 21, 2016

Kidney disease is considered a progressive disease that develops over time, particularly if necessary treatment is not followed. Treatment at any stage is important. Several home remedies can help manage symptoms and prevent further development of disease including apple cider vinegar detoxifying and baking soda for alkalizing the body. Additional treatments include Arabic gum, castor oil, cayenne and juicing with such combinations as celery, cucumbers and apples.

What Is Kidney Disease?

The kidneys are two organs situated on either side of the spin at mid-back and above the waist. These organs function to purify the blood, remove excess fluid, balance the salt and minerals in the blood and normalize blood pressure. However, the kidneys can become damaged due to diet, life choices and disease, causing waste products and fluid to build up in the body. The result of this damage can be kidney disease. Also called kidney failure, kidney disease is characterized by the kidneys’ inability to function properly. At advanced stages, dangerous levels of fluid and toxins build up in the body.

Continue reading below for indepth treatment protocols for treating kidney disease, including those from Ted from Bangkok and Bill Thompson's alkalizing advice. One of the most important repeated suggestions in this section is alkalizing with remedies like apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda. Other contributors offer reports of remedies and supplements that have been helping, such as DMSO and Castor Oil packs. Dietary changes, such as eliminating carbonated beverages, is advised as well.

Hi Everyone... One fact that seems to scream out from the research regarding kidney problems is that a major cause for this condition is because the body is already far to acid, resulting in dangerous erosion and damage to the kidneys themselves caused by the acidity in the blood. Ted from Bangkok has said this time and time again on EC.

Kidney disease and high body acidity also means that the body will have great problems digesting acid foods like raw Apple Cider Vinegar(acetic acd, malic acid) and citrus fruits(citric acid) which are normally beneficial to people whose bodies are not so acidic and who have sufficient stores to neutralize the citric acid to citrates and acetic acid to acetates. Ingesting these raw acid foods -- when the body is already so acidic and body bicarbonate stores so lacking -- are not beneficial to the body because in people with already acidic bodies and in order for these ingested acids to be converted to useful alkaline salts, these acids must first be neutralized by our bicarbonate stores during digestion. Excess blood acidity caused by a bad acid diet and a resulting lack of bicarbonate stores is what damages and erodes the kidneys. So if you have kidney problems then this essentially means that your body's bicarbonate and citrate stores are heavily depleted and also means that you are eating way too many acid foods -- so you cannot efficiently neutralize these damaging acids in the blood or within the cells themselves.

Therefore the common sense approach would simply be just to take Ted's Alkalizing Remedies to increase bicarbonate stores(alkalize the blood) and citrates (to alkalize the intracellular environment) within the body. From the research, bicarbonates and citrates are particularly useful for the kidneys in this respect.

So for some people to advise, as I have already read on EC, taking acidic foods like raw ACV and citrus fruits when someone is suffering from kidney disease caused by a lack of bicarbonate alkali in an already acidic body would seem to be absolutely crazy and completely the wrong advice.

It seems to confirm my doubts as I'm those rare ones on whom Apple Cider Vinegar did not work rather it sent my Blood pressure through the roof and I had to be put on medication after hospitalisation. My cholestrol is high too, though I generally eat healthy.

Can u please guide me on the kind of foods to avoid n to have with HBP n Cholesterol n early menopause at age 38. Since then I've been downhill.

Even if I take lime/lemon everyday but it constipates me severely. I'm scared to try Baking soda becoz of the sodium.

What kind of supplements/diet would help? I look forward to your guidence.

thank you-thank you soo much. Meenu

I have read on numerous occasions over the years that acids such as ACV and lemons turn alkaline in the digestive system. I think that is why they are generally recommended on alkaline diets.

A daily dose of bicarbonate soda could stop kidney disease and dialysis. I was told that I was at stage 3 in my kidney disease and eventually I would have to go on dialysis. The University Hospital in London had done some trial tests whereby taking a daily dose of bicarbonate soda could prevent the development of the disease. So, I had nothing to lose and took a teaspoon of bicarbonate soda with a glass of water twice a day. My tests came back and there has been no progression of the disease - hopefully it is in check, but the results look good.

On a second note, I have taken coca-cola with asparagus and on the last two occasions my kidney stones have disappeared. So, when it comes to my kidneys - the future is looking a little brighter - if I can help anyone in anyway, please contact me at my email address iain48(at) Cheers, Ian

I just want to thank Ted for the good work he is doing here. I took Zithromax for pnemonia and it hurt my left kidney bad. I discontinued after the first dose, but pain for three weeks following first two pills. I have been working hard to heal this, but the spleen began to hurt as well. After this the liver and or gallbladder were off too.

I was able to read through this site and see advice that Ted gave to others. Based on my own research I can say that Ted is more than brilliant. I am certain that his advice has helped me and many others. The doctors do not know how to heal kidneys. Its a very difficult task, but doing the right things certainly help. I had no time to waste with this either.

My daughter is 12, she has been suffering with Nephrotic Syndrome Mcd for 10 yrs. She had relapsed and we were waiting to go on the high dose steroids, her protein spill was +3. She had a very sore throat and I had the idea to get her to gargle with apple cider vinegar, 5mls (a capful) in a glass of water 3 times a day. I was very surprised to find the next day her protein was +2, the next day +1 and then neg. It's been 10 days now, I get her to drink a glass of Apple Cider Vinegar before bed, when she gargled she also swallowed it. I am still in shock this worked, no high dose steroids with all the horrible side effects.

Hi Maura from UK, kindly update us about any further results. Is ACV helping in the long run & she continues drinking it or was the initial drop in urine albumin was possibly due to some other factors?

Hi, I just noticed that a couple of people requested an update concerning my daughter's experience using apple cider vinegar for nephrotic syndrome MCD. Well I'm very happy to report that she has had no further relapses, she is still off all medication. We continued using the ACV gargle and swallow 3 times per day for 1 month. After that she did it once per day for 2 months then stopped.

While on vacation she came down with food poisoning and did not relapse, also after returning to school after the Summer holidays she came down with a sore throat, cough and cold but again without relapse, previously the most trivial infection would start a relapse.

I am very interested in the ACV use. I was diagnosed with MCD (minimal change disease) 2 years ago, and I am currently on the high steroids due to a relapse. Did your daughter have problems with body pains after coming off the steroids? Thank you and believe me I am very happy to hear she is doing so well. Tina

Re Apple Cider Vinegar for Nephrotic Syndrome

Hi Tina,

Yes my daughter was crippled with pain when reducing steroids, her doctors always seemed very surprised by this. I am a biochemist and through research, I came to the conclusion she was suffering from osteomalacia (sort of adult rickets) brought on by loss of vit D3, caused by the massive doses of steroids used for Nephrotic Syndrome, I gave her 5000 iu of vit D3 along with the necessary co factors, ( Magnesium Vit b2 and vit K2, and after 24 hrs she already felt relief, all pain was gone in 5 days. Tina I am so sorry you are suffering from this terrible illness, and because it is uncommon no one understands what you are going through, the treatment causes as much suffering as the disease. my daughters teachers seemed to think she had cystitis and that I was making a fuss over nothing. She still has her vit D3 as it is still too early to make much vit d3 from the sun. Shes had no side effects (actually her eczema and hay fever disappeared) but that's a good side effect. I am sort of embarrassed writing this because as a scientist this all seems too good to be true. I am currently reading every bit of research I can find on Vit D3 . I hope you can get into permanent remission soon.

Thank you for getting back to me so soon...Today I had horrible hand and forearm cramps to the point that my fingers were locked in an unnatural position. The pain was excruciating. I tried to eat anything that had potassium in it which seemed to help. Has that ever happened to your daughter? I have started to take vit D3 in hopes that will also help. Please ANY advise/help would be appreciated.... Thanks for all your help. Tina
Replied by Maura
Hi Tina,

So sorry you are having the dreaded cramps, yes my daughter had this, it's very common, The problem is that with Nephrotic Syndrome when you lose the albumin through the kidneys it is carrying all sorts of valuable substances as its known as a molecular taxis. So you can lose all sorts minerals, hormones, fatty acids even drugs. So you can become depleted very quickly in many things. The best thing for the cramps is Magnesium, in fact its difficult to keep potassium in your cells with out it. Unfortunately with today's farming techniques ( artificial fertiliser, etc ) its difficult to replenish the lost minerals through food alone, I use a coloured sea salt that hasn't had the associated minerals removed, I also gave extra magnesium, zinc, copper and selenium as I felt that they were particularly lacking in modern foods. I also tried to give her the best diet possible. I had one mom tell me when her son is weaning off the nephrotic levels of steroids, that he has to use a wheel chair, because of the pain and muscle problems.

I have read some very promising stuff about apple cider vinegar healing some on dialysis. I know it is rare, but I believe I can and will experience renal recovery. What I read is correct. The doctors and nurses will not give you any suggestions to get off dialysis, but for one they want to give false hope. But the main reason is that they will lose their INCOME if more people experienced renal recovery. One person said she didn't drink the vinegar, but laid in it every night and got "healed" in 9 months. What do you think about the vinegar?

Blackstrap Molasses fights cancer and will increase urination. I'm sorry I cannot recommend a therapeutic amount. Maybe start with one TBSP in warm water or 2% milk before going to bed. Someone else posted taking 3 tsp throughout the day but at this stage I would think starting at a larger dose first would help. I take either/or, depending on my urine flow. I read that therapeutic amounts of B-Complex also fights cancer but you have to be careful of the binders and fillers.

I totally agree that ALL of our food is genetically modified in one way or the other. None of our food is safe. It is no longer the way God created it. My kidneys were shutting down on me. I read something somewhere (that I will try to find) about Blackstrap Molasses and I tried it. It helped me. The majority of food and supplements in the health food stores is bad for you BUT I get the unsulphered BSM at the health food store and the "Real Salt" sea salt. It is the flowing/anti-caking agent in what is acceptable as table salt that is the culprit to many ailments and could be what contributes to your difficulty. This has been a piecemeal learning endeavor for over twenty years. I'm only trying to share what was wrong with me and what helped.

Wayne: To keep my kidneys functioning well, as periodically they don't, I take a half-spoon of D-Mannose and 3 Nature's Way Kidney/Bladder formula 2x day for a day or two with very good results.

In severe cases where one needs dialysis, the Kidneys need "rebuilding", which requires the use of the herb Comfrey. Added to the Comfrey, take Raw Kidney Glandular PLUS any nutritional products that are proven to stimulate Human Growth Hormone. Any of these three remedies alone would prove marginally effective, BUT combine them and you should see rapid rebuilding of the Kidneys.

@Dreamer: Comfrey is one of the greatest healing herbs on the planet, but some seeming evil stepped in and cursed it with the toxic alkaloid pyrrolizidine. The Comfrey root is said to contain more pyro than the leaf and every plant varies in toxicity so would need proceed with much caution. Nature's Herbs? once marketed a non-toxic comfrey but they discontinued it; maybe someone still does, worth researching. I have read that boosting Glutathione levels and taking Milk Thistle helps prevent the toxicity.

There are many different supplements as well as a short fast and cardio exercise that boost HGH; I have posted info here on E.C.

L: Two items that will help.

1. Take a bottle of Dr Christopher's "Kidney/Bladder" herbal complex in the recommended doses.

After two wks of the herbals, take a bottle of Raw Kidney Glandular supplement.

These two items will help clean & rebuild the kidneys.

Eating Watermelon is also good source of antioxidants and natural diuretics that are beneficial to kidney function.

This will help short term status but you need to determine the cause or underlying factors that are stressing your kidneys to such a degree.

Have you heard of urine therapy. It's drinking your own urine for your kidneys.. There is a lot of information on it on utube .. I don't know much about dialysis but can you filter urine enough to drink ? Only downside is if you are on medications you can't drink your own urine as it puts back the medications into the system.. so you have to watch out for that.

There is also a naturopathic doctor I found on Utube . HIs name is Robert Morse and he sells some great kidney formulas.. I am using one and going to get another one. they are herbs.. not sure of the outcome as I just started them.. google him or go to utube and watch his videos. Also he is a big advocate for raw foods so the body can heal itself....only thing you have to study these things yourself and see what is best for you.. for me I follow my gut feelings..Dr. Morse will also take your letters and not sure how it works but he might be able to help you if you reach out to his office. He is located in Florida..

My granddaughter had a kidney transplant. Before she did, I read a lot about the kidneys, I would suggest that you read about mastic gum. It is used in some countries for kidney function. There is a lot of things you can do. For my grand daughter since she is a child, they couldn't do much without the doctors permission. My daughter did start an appropriate diet for her and both her and her mom (the donor) are doing good.

If you want to get rid of a bladder or urinary tract infection DO NOT take antibiotics. Otherwise, the infection will just keep recurring. Use a capful of organic apple cider vinegar in water and drink throughout the day. This turns your body and pH alkaline. If your body is alkaline, then bacteria, viruses and fungi die. They ONLY live in an acidic environment. Do you know that people with cancer are ALL Acidic! This is the problem in this country. We are loaded with acidic foods and wonder why disease is so prevalent.

simmer a table spoonful with flax seeds in a 20 oz of water for about 5 minutes with a lid on, take of the stove (no microwaving) and leave the lid on for another 10 minutes, strain the seeds and give it to your son to drink that! Do not sweeten the tea, not even honey! This tea could be given 5-6 times a day, it cleans your kidneys out of any infections and the legumes from the flax seeds help with healing kidney damage. I personally cured my daughters right kidney when she was 7 years old with this simple remedy!

flax seeds are absolutely good for you, and there will not be any side effects from them, you can use this remedy for as long as you like! Now if you are taking flax seed oil, then we are talking about high omega 3-6-9 and thining the blood, wich is helpful for other ailments, for kidney problems just brew the seeds and drink it, it gets a little thick but that is the good legumes that your kidneys need! Good luck!

ACV is awesome and should be used sparingly to treat acid indigestion. Too much ACV will cause loss of potassium... I think I am I consuming a lot of ACV... Maybe 1 Tablespoon to 16oz... Maybe way too much. I had a bladder infection in May.. Anitbiotics cleared it up. Then I started to increase my ACV. Then a routine blood test detected abnormal proteins. The Dx is MGUS (monoclonal gammopathy undertemined signifigance. ) Probably NOT a big deal, many older people can get this and it is related to inflammation in the body (I have Fibro.. ) HOWEVER.. One of the ratios they look at is BUN:CREATININE. My ratios are high.. And have been since bladder infection. I take NO MEDS of any kind. My potassium levels are low, but low normal. At this time, I can only assume that I am drinking TOO MUCH of the ACV, flushing TOO MUCH of the POTASSIUM out of my body. That said, I do NOT want to stress out the kidneys and the filtration. MGUS has a 50/50 possiblity of progressing to Multiple Myeloma in 20 years.... AND... M. M. Causes stress on the kidneys... Who knew??

So is ACV awesome? Yes! Does it help short term? Yes! But anything in moderation.

Just a couple of notes on the flax seed discussion. A) Legumes are a family of plants (beans, peas, clover, etc.) Flax is not a legume. B) The omega-three-rich oils in flax seed become oxidized within 20 minutes of grinding them or if they are heated. Oxidized flax oil is detrimental, not beneficial.

Dear Kelly,

For someone with multiple health problems, no one may be comfortable to say for sure if coconut oil is "safe." It is a food that has helped many people with many things, so unless certain fats are restricted by your friend's doctor, it does seem a reasonable thing to try. But do get a high quality (cold-pressed) coconut oil that smells like coconut. Start with a small amount and increase as desired. A small amount being a teaspoon once or twice a day. The maximum daily recommendation for coconut oil is 3 Tablespoons a day, I believe.

You might also find this link interesting about using charcoal therapy for renal disease: Charcoal Therapy

I hope you will find some good solutions for your friend!

My wife had been diagnosed by our DO, with kidney disease. She has been diabetic for many years and doesn't take very good care of the condition. Her GFR was 38 and Doc was concerned. I personally felt that she was already on too many meds and looked for a more natural method to raise the GFR. I found on more than one website in the UK, that there have been extensive studies on the use of ACV with baking soda, with impressive results. You won't find these studies in the US because the drug companies won't make a nickel from the results. This treats the problem, not the symptom.

We consulted with Doc, to make sure the sodium wouldn't be a problem with her hypertension. Doc looked at the UK studies and said, "Give it a try."

More recent blood work has seen her GFR go from 38 to 45, and now up to 53. We are no longer waiting to be told that dialysis will be on the agenda. The combination also seems to have help bring her BP down a little bit.

Another positive note to this is that my wife had not been one who wanted to try 'natural' remedies. Now that she has seen very good positive results, she reminds me if I forget to mix up her acv/soda combo in the morning. She is now more willing to try some of my "crazy" ideas.

I would highly recommend checking out the UK studies. The reports showed that in more than one case, people had been able to stop dialysis after using the combination.

My wife takes 1 oz. of ACV with 2 oz. of water and 1/8 tsp. baking soda. We use raw ACV.

Wow, that sounds great but I too worry about the sodium in baking soda as I have hypertension. I do use the Apple Cider Vinegar and tried the baking soda once, but it shot my bp up..

Isn't it a direct conflict to take the ACV and the bicarbonate at the same time, or in the same time period? Are these not polar opposites on acidity? I have read about both being helpful. Are there any here who have been counseled or considered that one increases acidity and one reduces it? Bill

EC: Hi Bill,

Please read our ACV and Baking Soda page here.

I am looking for information on reversing kidney damage and find ACV and baking soda combinations most often suggested. Can anyone explain how they are both appropriate, since one is an acid and one a base? Don't they cancel each other out? And if an acid (ACV) brings forth an alkalizing response in the body why doesn't the baking soda do the opposite and make the body more acidic?

My GFR has dropprd. I started with a 47, caught pneumonia, and now have levels at 28. Will the baking powder solution work?

Apple Cider Vinegar does not make your stomach acidic but the contrary.

Hey. Why in many places it is said ACV to be bad for kidney disease cause of it's huge amount of potassium and here it is recommended? Kind regards: Dreamer

People with Renal failure need to know that the number one thing they need to do is stop eating their normal diet and sweat. If they eat sugars, gluten-containing foods regularly, excessive protein, etc, the problem will compound. Eat raw fruits or vegetables, drink kombucha or herbal teas. Food-induced acidity and toxin absorbsion through air, mouth or skin is the reason the kidneys are failing (unless dehydration is the culprit, and in that case-real water is needed, not tap or "filtered" water). Don't forget to relieve your kidneys of toxin removal duty a bit by exercising and going to a sauna, or just finding a way to sweat.

Also, if you have mercury amalgams, realize that kidneys are unable to remove the mercury without help (garlic, cilantro, chlorella). Either get the mercury out or pull the tooth, it might put years on one's life. ACV will help eliminate any pathenogenic by-products or bacteria, etc. and the bicarbonate will help restore blood alkalinity and help kidney function. Junk food and beverages are the real problem, so stop ingesting them!

A good idea would be to stop eating, take blackstrap molasses, ACV and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) in 1:30 intervals throughout the day. Your body will tell you which one it needs more of. If you crave it, you probably need it. For more severe cases, continue for 3+ days. Dialysis should be used when one won't give up food, but bicarbonate has been proven in studies to help kidney function, doctors probably don't care. They'd zip you up in a body bag early, literally, read about Roy Benivides, a Medal of Honor winner ( not that war should ever be supported, but it is a great illustration of the apathetical attitude taken on by some physicians).

Sodium bicarbonate does have a laxative effects, but if one's kidneys are failing, you need to be cleaned out anyway. Ph and toxin concentration are most significantly affected by the rotting animal carcasses in the bowels. We were designed to eat fruits, vegetables and herbs, forget all the high-protein hype.

Hot peppers should also help relieve water retention too, in some cases. Chilis, habaneros, cayenne, etc, should help in reducing edema as well as killing off unwanted bacteria that cause kidney infection, but this may only be the underlying problem for a minority of CKD sufferers.

Bottom line- observe your body's reactions and think logically, forget drugs and dialysis, you weren't meant to live like that. Clean out your body or machines are your only hope, because drugs kill after a while. Also, go outside and exercise. Pray to G-d, He may reveal a cure, like He did to Hezekiah.

Arabic Gum

Per Ted's posts about arabic gum for treating kidney disease, does anyone know where to buy arabic gum in the USA?

Arabic gum can be bought at middleeastern import food stores. They will recognise it by the name Mastic or Mastiki gum. You could also try India food stores.

How do you take gum Arabic? Thanks

All you do is take a few pieces of arabic gum and chew them. Nothing else is needed. The gum from Greece is best. The powder is not as good either.

I have had kidney infection in both kidneys for at least 6 months. I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of - except cranberry - I am allergic to that. But I have been doing blueberry. I have been on multiple rounds of different antibiotics - which worked while I was on them but the infection would always return within two days to a week after I finished the antibiotic. Two nights ago, I had the worst kidney pain yet. I had read on EC about using baking soda for kidney infection but was always afraid to try. But in the wee hours of the morning, I finally gave in and mixed 1/2 tsp. Baking soda in 8 oz. of water. I did not like the taste. The pain did not go away but I went to bed and slept very well. The kidney pain was still there in the morning and I did a dipstick test and sure enough, the infection was pretty bad - the urine looked the worst I have ever seen it, although there were no nitrites.

However, there was something in that urine I had never seen before - a small amount of sediment! I booked an appt. for a urine test at the dr's a few hours later. To my utter amazement, the dr's test came back negative! I still had the pain, but I attribute it to the fact that I am pretty sure I have yeast that affects my kidneys and this was detox. I have had that before when I soak my feet in hydrogen peroxide and water (1 cup H2O2 to a gal. of water).

As I write, it is the next morning and I still have mild but decreasing kidney pain, but the best part is, my urine is clear as can be and I have not seen such a good dipstick test when not on antibiotics, since I started the dipstick tests 6 months ago. I only took one drink of baking soda and water.

Have you tried Aloe Vera Juice? This works wonders for me. I had a lot of inflammation due to backed up kidneys. I drink 4oz three times daily and in just 1 month I lost 30 pounds and several inches all around the body. Also take 1 Dandelion root capsule twice daily. This really help get rid of the excess water. Drink plenty of water, at least 1 gallon daily. If you are having pains, that may not be fibro, but it could possibly your lymphatic system. Get a lymphatic massage. It's not too expensive and you'll feel much better after. Hope this helps.

Hi Dallas

Just want to know how far with your ailment of kidney failure after using baking soda??

Posted by Oren (Hessmer, Louisiana, Usa) on 06/30/2010

Hello, I am a twice a week dialysis patient due to Iga-Nephropathy. I've read articles about bicarbonate or baking soda being used for renal failure. I desperately need to know exactly how this works, and how it could help me. I still urinate, but I also retain fluids. I (do not)want a transplant and all its damaging medicines. I want to cure or at least improve myself dramatically. please let me know how to take the bicarbonate, or any other herb or treatment to improve my kidneys. Ill await your responce, thank you

You have a bicarbonate bath at your dialysis treatment. If curing kidney disease was as simple as apple cider vinegar, don't you think this would be used throughout the world to end kidney disease?

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) helps by bonding to phosphurus acid in your stomach. its helps with eliminating too much acidity, but doesnt help rejenerate kidney function.

I saw this in the DMSO page and thought it should be posted here too. It seems DMSO can open blockages related to liver and renal failure.

[YEA] 08/24/2012: Geralyn_d from Atlanta, Ga: "When I went into acute liver failure 4 years ago I was not told about ascites, they didn't really expect me to live and I turned down a place on the transplant list. I started eating raw vegan as it was the least reactive food I could stomach. One day I was dressing and noticed I looked like a water barrel! I weighed myself and had gained 8 pounds in a couple of days... I was going out of town the next day and used the only thing I know of that quickly removes excess water... DMSO.

I spread 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of 99% DMSO on a baby wipe... Then wiped from breast line to just past the groin where lymph glands are (front and back)and over the next 12 hours I peed like a racehorse! It took 2 days but all the water build up disappeared. It has come back 5 times and I used it each time to success. I also added tissue salts for control of water in the body and liver support (nat mur /nat sulph).

Recently my sister was in the hospital when her chemo almost killed her (heart and liver issues). She gained 24 pounds in 5 days. I advised the DMSO cautiously thinking at least there they could deal with any reaction. Instead of a problem, she ended up flooding the measuring container a few times and lost the 24 pounds in a week. The Drs were very happy that the liver numbers quickly dropped to the normal range. We didn't share our diuretic free solution though. DMSO is a cheap and pretty safe way to get rid up water build up."

Ironically, only moments prior to reading this post, I had been smelling a DMSO odor in my bed but I only use DMSO in the bath (and not so much as to cause body odor). When I closely investigated the situation, I found a large spot on my bed-sheet where the odor was emanating. I had (some time prior) accidentally dropped a Garlic Oil soft-gel in the bed and it burst. Which brings the conversation to this.

In his research for cancer cure, David W. Gregg, Ph. D. Found an erry resemblance of Garlic to DMSO (the odor is remarkably similar). "I find it very interesting to note the similarity between Diallyl Sulfide (Garlic ingredient) and Dimethylsulfide (DMSO)."

So, for those who find the DMSO route a little out-of-the-way or inconvenient, I would recommend triple strength Garlic Oil soft-gels. Gavin of New Zealand expressed the blood-thinning properties of Garlic, which coincides with the same reported for DMSO.

Also, do supplement MSM with the DMSO as they are redox partners (they interchange from one back to the other). As a side-note, I find Alpha Lipoic Acid also potentates the DMSO/MSM.
