Natural Remedies That Alleviate Menopause Symptoms

Treatment of menopause and its symptoms typically involves dietary changes and natural supplements. Changing the diet helps balance the body's natural hormone levels without harsh treatments. Likewise, supplements enhance the body's nutrient supply and absorption for better health.

What is Menopause?

A term that can be defined as the permanent physiological or natural cessation of menstrual cycles, menopause serves as the permanent end of menstruation and fertility in women. A natural biological process, menopause typically occurs in the 40s and 50s and is generally defined as occurring 12 months after a woman's last menstrual period.

Menopause is a significant life change and involves an extensive transition in a woman's hormones. As such, the difference may bring about several unpleasant symptoms before and during the process. Irregular periods, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, night sweats, trouble sleeping, mood changes, weight gain, slowing metabolism, thinning hair, dry skin, and loss of breast fullness are all standard.

Natural Treatment for Hormonal Health

The change in hormones associated with menopause can serve as a difficult transition for women, necessitating holistic and well-rounded treatment. Effective treatment options include dietary changes and natural supplements to support the body through change. Additionally, staying active and leading a balanced, healthy life limit the effects or symptoms of menopause.

Dietary Changes

Initially, cleansing the body of toxins can help limit the fluctuations many women experiences. A liver cleanse is often effective as an initial start to treatment. Eating organic or simply whole, unprocessed foods causes less stress on the digestive system and introduces fewer artificial elements into the body, limiting the discomfort experienced.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Using apple cider vinegar as a dietary supplement can help women transition through menopause. The natural antioxidant properties of apple cider vinegar flush the body of toxins and boost the body's natural functioning. The vinegar alkalinizes the body, which may help with headaches, night sweats, and hot flashes.

Blackstrap Molasses

Blackstrap molasses is a nutrient-rich serum derived from the sugar refining process. Molasses delivers vital nutrients that improve energy and eliminate inflammation. The treatment may also help with hot flashes and night sweats.

Simply put, menopause is the permanent cessation of a woman's monthly period. However, much more is involved in menopause than just this one element. Natural treatment options balance the body's systems to maintain a high energy level, limited mood, temperature fluctuation, and a smoother transition.

There is a strong possibility that post menopausal hot flashes and such symptoms are due to adrenal fatigue or a low thyroid or both. The big problem is getting a doctor to help you with it unless we are clever and doctor yourself.

I first read about acv here when I had peri-menopause and that was a few years ago! Now I am entering menopause with fun(!) symptoms all ladies report. I started taking 1 teaspoon of acv first thing in the am before breakfast and within a week all symptoms dissipated. Besides that, I feel great with loads of energy. Very pleased.

I have to give credit where credit is due! I began having hot flashes and night sweats and it was miserable! Not exaggerating, every 1 1/2 hours around the clock! I always visit this website before I do anything else and found fellow sufferers talking about ACV. One in particular talked about ACV tablets. What a miracle! Again, not exaggerating.....within 2 days of taking the tablets every single hot flash and night sweat was gone!

I bought Apple Cider Vinegar 625 mg. tablets and I took 2 tablets in the morning, 2 in the afternoon and 2 about an hour before bed. I don't know how it works, but I don't care! It's been 6 months and I now tell everyone that I know about this! They are large and I have always had trouble with pills, but I find taking it with juice or soda followed by a glass of water works well. My coworker and sister in law are now true believers also! Thank you to all who take the time to post to this site!

I suffer from headaches and hot flashes due to fluctuating hormones (I'm 50). Tonight my headache had been particularly bad and I was thinking that I would not be getting very much sleep. After reading your post, I jumped up and made myself a drink of 2 TBS of organic apple cider vinegar, 1/4 tsp of baking soda and a small amount of agave nectar for taste. I then added a cup of purified water to it and drank. Almost instantly (literally ~30 seconds later) my headache was (and still is) gone. I don't even want to talk about it for fear it's all "in my head." But there you go. I feel awfully better!!!

I suffer from what I consider extreme hot flashes and night sweats. I don't sleep because of night sweats, so I get headaches its a vicious circle..... Until I started taking 2 tablespoons of ACV before bed and it's freaking amazing! The flashes are still there but have decreased by 95%. I wish I would have known about this 3 years ago. Thank you ACV you have given me back my life.

I first heard about this from a Romanian woman. It's a Folk Remedy using Apple Cider Vinegar. Pat down the body with full strength vinegar before retiring to bed for night sweats. It works!

I have been suffering from hormone disruption that I believe was caused by exposure to environmental toxins. I started having hot flashes 2 1/2 years ago. It took me a while to make the connection between toxins and my body because of my age (in 40's). Anyway, always an advocate of natural remedies, I tried maca. It worked like a dream and my hot flashes disappeared for a few months. Then they returned and the maca no longer worked. To make a long story short, I've tried many different herbs and natural formulas, nothing has worked. I found this site and eagerly tried drinking organic ACV twice daily. I can't remember the amount, I think 1 or 2 tablespoons in water. It worked for one day. What's worse is that it had a HORRIBLE effect on my teeth. Plaque and sensitivity increased. (I have now started oil pulling organic unrefined coconut oil and even after the first time, the plaque on the my teeth that I used to feel with my tongue, has disappeared. What a God-send! I thought that it was downhill all the way, concerning my teeth).

Anyway, after a week of still having hot flashes and feeling my teeth degrade (even after brushing my teeth after drinking the ACV AND also using a straw), I gave up on it. Maybe because the root of my issue is toxins and not a natural reproductive process, the ACV and other remedies are not working. What I have found is that some things work for one day. It's like my body would be curious about the new substance and take a break from producing hot flashes to spend time dealing with the new substance, then, once it figured it out, go back to making the hot flashes. In doing research, I've discovered that my liver has probably been overworked. I now eat a very plain cleaning diet of veggies, fruits, nuts and beans. I think I am overly yang and need to become more yin. I also plan to renew my yoga practice because I know that yoga is SUPER for the liver (especially any forward bend). I can't do a stronger cleanse because it over works my liver causes a greater hormonal imbalance. I also started drinking a quart of sage and milk thistle tea a day. After 2 months of this diet and tea, my hot flashes have been reduced. Now it just seems like I have "heat sensitivity" where if it's hot (and it's been over 90) I get a flash. But if I feel cool, I'm fine. Lastly, along with the hot flashes, the sweating odor was a nightmare. I learned here about using 1/2 of a fresh organic lime to rub over my body (where it was sweating), wait 10 minutes and shower. This has been FANTASTIC! I also use an all natural organic lemongrass soap or the popular peppermint castille soap. But even if I run out of the soap and use another, the lime has performed a miracle. Limes have antibacterial properties that prep my body so that the sweating doesn't create funk.

I have always used lime instead of deodorant and just leave it there. No rinsing. Works like a charm

I'm so glad I found your website. I am 50 and going through SEVERE menopause. Hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, hair loss, loss of memory etc. etc. I started the ACV about 5 weeks ago. I used a splash of ACV in ice water and drink glasses of it all day. By the 3rd week no more hot flashes. Then in my 5th week they came back almost as strong as before I started using the ACV. I couldn't figure it out. What had I done wrong? Went back to your website and I realized that I had not exercised the 4th week (I always exercise at least 2x a week). Too busy. I added baking soda (1/4 tsp)to the ACV water today and I love it. The salt in baking soda improves the taste of the ACV water. I'm back on track with the exercise. I've increased the splashes of ACV (approx. 2-3 Tbsp) I am a little worried about the amount of sodium in baking soda. My BP is perfect thank goodness. I also suffer from Allergy induced Asthma. I have not used an inhaler or taken a pill for that in 5 weeks. It's spring time here and everyone around me is suffering with allergies, but not me. Little aches and pains that I had are gone. I think that just as exercise helped us with PMS, exercise will help us with Menopause. My body might be fighting 3 things, Allergies, Asthma and Menopause. So I need to increase my fight. Exerecise, yes. Increase ACV, yes. Baking soda, yes but in limited amounts. I will keep you posted. Abby

For 2 years now, I have been able to avoid hot flashes by not having caffeine. I even had to stay away from having too much decaf coffee otherwise the small amount of caffeine in the decaf would cause me to flash. Shortly after I started taking ACV (2 tbsp. 2 times a day) for joint pain, I had read that people were having success with it helping hot flashes. I decided to try drinking regular coffee again and I am still hot flash free! The ACV is wonderful!!!

I became aware of high blood pressure about a month ago and at that time realised it may have been running high for many months. I had had a high reading twice at the dentist but didn't realise it was of concern. My husband monitors his BP so I had him take mine and it was 132/95. That was exactly four weeks ago. I immediately cut salt out of my diet and probably get less than 500 mg of sodium all day. I cut out sugar in most all forms and began eating lots of veg and fruit, I try to swim and do yoga most days or workout at the gym. I started drinking 2 tsp ACV with honey and distilled water 2 - 3 times a day. Initially with the honey my BP spiked high again and I had a day of feeling really bad. I switched to sweetening the vinegar with stevia and after four weeks my bp reading today was 104/68 - it has been steadily decreasing since the first day of altering my lifestyle. It has read as low as 98 /64. The biggest reductions seem to come from the ACV and from hot yoga. I do feel wonderful, best I've felt in years . The ACV has cleared up an annoying allergy that I have had for at least two years now. I have been doing oil pulling too for the past couple weeks and it also seems to help. Not quite sure which is doing which but I know I have more energy , better focus in addition to the bp reduction. I am 51 and have fewer symptoms from menopause as well.

My cousin's doctor recommended ACV for gout, she passed this website on to me, so I've only been using ACV for about 3 weeks now, and no migraines, no sinus headaches (northeast ohio weather horrible), allergy symptoms have all but disappeared, and FEWER HOT FLASHES (am 47), I don't understand why more physicians don't tell us about this miracle cure-all!"

P.S. my energy levels are off the charts. my 47 year old skin feels like the proverbial "baby's bottom", and I'm losing weight without even really trying!

I tried several over the counter drug store medicines for my hot flashes and they did not work. First I got off coffee, cokes and sugar. Including artificial sugars. and then I did a candida cleanse and colon cleanse.I do not have hot flashes any more. I also drink lots of water and include vinegar in my water everyday.

I was feeling very bad in many different ways (mostly from anemia) when I found your site. The most pressing problem I was having was high blood pressure and water retention that had come on quite suddenly and was making me feel like I might explode. The DR gave me meds, of course, they really weren't working (avg BP 160/95 with meds)and I thought I should try other methods rather than have him raise the dosage, and besides, why was I suddenly having this problem?

I had tried ACV along with my mother many years ago when I was a teenager to help with winter athritis and sore throats, but I had forgotten about it. So after reading about it on your site, I immediately started by having 2tbls ACV +1/4tsp baking soda and a little agave nectar for sweetner in a mug of hot water. Within a couple hours of my first mug I was up and about feeling better. My grown son could not believe the transformation. He happened to come by for a visit right when I was drinking that first dose and I changed right before our eyes. I'm so glad he was here to see it so I know I'm not imagining things. I continued using it at least twice a day. The first night I felt so good in my skin, it was wonderful. It took several weeks to get off the BP meds, I had only been on them several weeks before starting ACV so I think I had not become dependent on them. Other people should be very careful about changing their BP meds, DR should monitor this. The water retention problem got better and better each day and finally disappeared after a couple weeks. Last BP check at DRs was 135/85, not bad.

Amazingly, and without me expecting it, my hot flashes that had appeared with a vengence at the same time as the high BP, completely disappeared at that first mugful. It took me a couple days to realize it, but I have not had one since, not ONE hot flash since, and they were rolling in just about one an hour, and believe me they were very thoroughly HOT.

I very patiently waited before writing in to you, and it is over 5 months later now, and I have my mug once a day or more, even while staying away from home (I have been sad to leave organic ACV behind in hotel rooms because I don't know of a good way to travel with it by air). I believe my digestion is better and elimination more regular though I would not have said before that I was particularly troubled in that area. It helps my overall sense of well-being. I can certainly tell if I haven't had some for a day-- I just feel off without it.

I have to add, though, sometimes my ACV doesn't sound good, it kind of hits my stomach funny, gives me a hollow feeling, and sometimes I feel like it heats me up, not quite a hot flash, but not desirable for someone who's had too many hot flashes. I don't know what this aversion is all about, but I manage to make myself have some, even if just a more diluted version of it and in cooler water. I am always glad that I did. After reading more, I think I will try the baking soda in water alone, or the lemon juice with baking soda in water next time the ACV just doesn't sound good.

Thank you so much for this site. I am determined to continue trying things until I feel like I remember I once felt--really well and useful.
