What Is Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
A common disorder of the large intestine, irritable bowel syndrome involves frequent cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation. While irritable bowel syndrome or IBS does involve numerous bowel issues, it does not cause permanent damage to the large intestine or colon.
The specific symptoms experienced when affected by irritable bowel syndrome vary depending on the individual and may resemble other common intestinal diseases. The most common symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, though, involve abdominal discomfort and cramping, bloating, gas, diarrhea or constipation and mucus in the stool. Most individuals experience fairly mild symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome; however, some individuals may experience issues that are so severe that the individual is disabled or unable to complete typical, everyday tasks. It is best to discuss any symptoms with a doctor. Most individuals experience irritable bowel syndrome as a chronic condition, but the intensity and severity of the condition is likely to ebb and flow depending on overall health, diet and other related factors.
The exact cause of irritable bowel syndrome is not known; however, the issue may have to do with an irregular contracting and relaxing of the muscles lining the intestines. Generally, it is believed that an individual with IBS experiences contractions that are both stronger and longer-lasting than normal. As such, food moves or is forced through the intestines at a more rapid rate, which causes gas, bloating and diarrhea. Additional factors may include abnormalities in the nervous system, foods consumed, stress and hormones.
Natural Irritable Bowel Syndrome Treatment
Even though irritable bowel syndrome does not cause permanent damage to the colon, finding an effective treatment is important. Natural options such as probiotics offer relief and maintenance of the condition. Additional irritable bowel syndrome treatment options include maintaining a gluten-free diet, taking turmeric and peppermint oil and identifying and avoiding trigger foods such as dairy. Activated charcoal, aloe vera juice, apple cider vinegar, vitamin B12, bee pollen and bentonite clay are typically helpful for IBS sufferers as well. Blackberry liquid or juice and blackstrap molasses also help regulate the digestive processes.

Apple Cider Vinegar Cure for Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Home Remedy Ingredients
- Apple Cider Vinegar - 1 Teaspoon
- Water - 16 Oz
The mix of nutrients and digestive aids in unpasteurized apple cider vinegar (ACV) can slow the digestive process, improve intestinal metabolism, and regulate the excretory system. Take the ACV tonic three times a day with meals—one teaspoon of ACV in a large glass of water (honey optional). Slowly increase the amount of ACV to 1-2 tablespoons per glass over time, as your body needs and tolerates it.

[YEA] Recently started taking Apple Cider Vinegar for other health benefits and noticed a positive effect on my IBS problems. I don't even take it everyday but I take about 4 tablespoons at a time in juice to help with the taste. Before that I had luck in managing the symptoms with Slippery Elm Bark pills. Which I took when I felt an episode coming on.

[YEA] APPLE CIDER VINEGAR. What a wonderful natural remedy. I have been suffering from IBS for years. One evening when I was having too much of problem, I surfed the net and came across this remedy. I took a single dose of ACV and felt better. I took one dose next morning and passed the day without any problem. Now I am taking just one dose in the morning and feeling good. One precaution, n it causes constipation so you have to keep this in mind

[YEA] I have been using Organic Raw ACV for my IBS symptoms.... It worked really well after I added a little bit of baking soda and 1/4 tsp of Cayenne Pepper with a bit of Turmeric. Overall symptoms are significantly better now.
It keeps going and coming in cycles ... Every couple of week especially when I am not sleeping enough and work and family realted stress. I am working to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night and not to sleep late on the weekends and exercise more often at the gym.

[YEA] Amazing how this instantly cured my IBS! I have been suffering with IBS for about a year now. I got IBS at age 14 and it really made high school a living hell. Now I'm currently 15 and I'm cured! The quality of life is so much better for me now. I recommend AVC to everyone with IBS, it works amazingly.

[YEA] I'm a 48 yr old, post menopausal female. I was diagnosed with IBS about 14 yrs ago. I've had flare ups off and on over the years. It got much worse after going through menopause. No prescription meds seems to work. About a yr ago, I tried acupuncture and in less than 3 sessions I was basically "cured"...until I developed a hiatal hernia. the doc gave me omeprazole for the pain. I'm pretty sure that the medicine got rid of ALL the acid in my stomach, therefore my IBS flared up big time because my stomach was unable to digest food properly. The gas, bloating, cramping and irregular stools all came back with a vengence. thanks to this website, I decided to try ACV. After the first dose, I noticed improvement. After that, I've had no symptoms AT ALL. I've been drinking it for a week now. For myself, 1tbsp in about 8oz of water 3 times a day works for me. And it's unfiltered organic ACV with the 'mother'. I also noticed an immediate increase in energy which was a huge welcome! I did have some constipation for about 3 days, but I stuck it out and now I'm regular and "normal". I also feel like I am able to breath deeper now, which I was having trouble with before.I don't use the baking soda with the ACV because I just love the taste of vinegar anyway. I wouldn't drink it straight up though, because I think it would burn like the devil. I'm sure the vinegar is why I no longer have the symptoms from the hiatal hernia too, acid reflux, etc. Trying to pass this amazing "fix" on to friends and family..Mostly I just get funny looks. Oh well, their loss. I won't be without my ACV again. ps..haven't changed my diet in the least either. Thank you EC!

[YEA] I have suffered from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) for nearly 20 years. My worst symptom is chronic constipation. For a while I was unknowingly on a "natural" stimulant and didn't realize I was dependent on it to stay "regular". After two partial bowel obstructions I realized what had happened and have had trouble getting regular again without the aide of stimulants UNTIL Apple Cider Vinegar! I have been taking it three times each day since before Thanksgiving and have been regular with no other "help" aides for almost two months. To avoid the additional calories that come from taking ACV with honey or juices, I dilute mine with flavored carbonated water and it has become very easy to take.

[YEA] Apple Cider Vinegar cured my Sore throat, sinus infection, loose stools, gas, lack of energy, depression, decreased my appetite, cleared up a dermatologic problem. My sister got me started taking organic ACV 1 tsp in 8 oz spring water 3 times a day. At first I tried it because I had a sore throat that was immediately gone, my sinus infection went away within 24 hours or so. I have IBS and have been battling foul-smelling loose stools for years. Within a couple of days my stools were formed with almost no odor. I feel 100% better. My appetite just dropped and I'm not getting fatty food cravings like I used to and I've lost 22 pounds so far. Also, I have had big painful butt boils off and on for years and my hindquarters cleared up within a couple of days.

[YEA] Hello, Earthclinic readers. I'm a 46 y/o woman. A few years ago as I was going through a divorce, I developed severe abdominal pain. It would be located high, or near my ribs, off to one side or very low in my abdominal area. Hardly ever in the same spot. My Dr. did a few tests and sent me to radiology for a sonogram of my gall bladder, appendix and ovaries. The sonographer told me my symptoms sounded like IBS, she had it. Coincidentally, I had run out of my multi vitamins some time ago and hadn't replaced them. Sometime after that Dr. appt I did get more and noticed a few days after taking them again that the pain went away.
I was talking to a friend of mine whose granddaughter had been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and in doing her own research discovered that B12 and Royal Jelly could be beneficial. She opted to try this rather than put her 8 y/o granddaughter through the recommended surgery. It worked! The pain was completely gone in no time. I looked at the label on my vitamin bottle to find that they did indeed contain a hefty dose of B12 and bee pollen, but not Royal Jelly. Subsequently, I ran out of vitamins again and after several weeks without them - you guessed it - the abdominal pain returned! I didn't waste any time getting to the local health food store to get my multi-vitamin and sure enough, after a few days, the pain was completely gone again. I'm convinced, B12 and bee pollen or Royal Jelly must be good for the digestive system. My vitamins are Nature's ___ ___ ___. It's a whole food and chock full of good stuff.

[YEA] Bentonite Clay for IBS, Ulcerative Colitis & Gastroenteritis: Bentonite Clay is a miracle!! I have suffered w/ these conditions since I was a child (I am almost 42). As no meds would help & doctor's couldn't do anything. These conditions had left me pretty much, home bound. I was desperate and would have tried just about anything.
For the past several months, I have been taking just a small amount (no more than 1 T a day, in purified water) & I have went from 10-15 loose bowel movements a day, to two normal bm's. I saw the results immediately. I do not take fiber.
I had forgotten what normal was. It was so bad that I could eat, almost nothing w/o getting extremely sick. On occasion, I still take Prilosec for acid reflux, but no other stomach meds!!
I hope this info helps others, as it has given me my life back. ;)

[YEA] Beta Glucan for IBS.
I found a huge relief with 3 x 400 mg Beta Glucan daily. Allready used psylium ( always let it soak in water for at least an hour or it will dehydrate your bowels ) and FOS. Ofcourse this was helpfull with the constipation. But the addition of the Beta Glucan took the pain in the bowels away.
For more info go to "http://www.youngagain.org/books.html" look for the pdf. Beta Glucan and you will find a reference for a given patent to the connection IBS and Beta Glucan.
-- "Another PCT patent was issued in 1992 WO94 04,136 for irritable bowel syndrome, including diarrhea and constipation in humans. This shows that many companies around the world realize the value of beta glucan in many health conditions and are busy trying to
patent their particular product. Every year you will see more and more such patents." --
It helped me .. hope it will help you to.

[YEA] I have irritable bowel with diarrhea. After my last colonoscopy, no prescription or OTC meds would help. I started taking 5,000 mcg of biotin every day and got relief. Sometimes I do get diarrhea, but it doesn't last long. This even helps the spasms and cramping.
