Low Libido Remedies

Last Modified on Jun 20, 2014

Holistic treatment for low libido can be very effective and work quickly to restore hormonal imbalances. Home remedies such as cayenne pepper quickly stimulate the libido, while supplements like Vitamin E can increase blood flow.

What is Low Libido?

Libido is a term that refers to an individual’s sexual desire. It can be likened to the individual’s sexual appetite or craving for the opposite sex. While several factors contribute to a male or female’s libido, several things can also decrease one’s sexual desiring, resulting in low libido. Low libido is often considered a more female problem; however, men can be just as heavily affected by women.

The characteristic symptom of low libido in men and women is specifically a reduction in sexual desire. Additional symptoms may accompany the condition including illness, chronic pain, personal distress, hypoactive sexual desire disorder, menopausal transitions, low testosterone, physical and emotion stress and chronic illness. Low libido often limits the pleasure of sexual encounters as well.

Home Remedies for Low Libido

While treating low libido often requires identifying the exact cause of the issue, several home remedies can be used whatever the cause. Apple cider vinegar taken daily can increase energy levels as well as libido. Additionally, cayenne, coconut oil, horny goat weed and hydrilla can be used as supplements to increase libido. Kyo-greens and mucuna pruriens also boost libido. Women report that vitamin E capsules work well when taken 10 minutes before coitus.

[YEA]  I still can't believe that this remedy has helped me with my sex drive. Just last week my husband was telling me that I was turning into a 80 year old woman. Not to mention that my parents probably get it more than my husband. After taking ACV my husband can't keep me off of him I thought it would be crazy that it would be the Apple Cider Vinegar. I googled it and found this. I take 4 tablespoons mixed with a half of cup of water and 1 tablespoon of natural honey. Once a day tried it for the last week.

[YEA]   "I do the ACV on a regular basis. Seems to improve this area of life. Lately I have been doing some penis stretching exercises, manual types, (by hand) and I am simply amazed regarding the lack of exposure pertaining to this remedy! First of all my penis has grown over an inch in about 7 weeks, my sexual drive has quadrupled! My wife of 20 years can't get enough of me lately. If we so much as hug I get aroused! I think this remedy is the world's best kept secret. Has something to do with muscle growth and increased blood flow. No pills required. Just about 6 or 7 minutes of alone time to complete your excercises. I have gone from a tad under 6 inches to right about 7 inches in a very short time. The side effects are wonderful!

I found something out by accident, then checked a few things out online. Ive been taking Garlic cayenne as a supplement to keep in good health. When I added beet juice, (Beet apple and carrot actually) about the third day I was waking up in the night with unusualy large (@#! %$^&%$).. The only thing different was the beet juice... As I find its been used since roman times as an aphrodesiac. The science says its very high in nitrates! Which open up the small capillaries. Its a very similar bulb as the colius which small cakes were made for the same thing. In fact the colius looks like a small beet. I'm sure they are the same family of plants and very good for the health in many ways.. Try this and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

[YEA]   "I also experienced a libido increase. I am 37, recovering alcoholic and drink 2 tbs of ACV per day, also 1 tbs of molasses per day. I have had trouble with low libido for 5 years and it has increased this past week by approximately 50 percent! Also energy has increased greatly!

A side question for the guy who was doing the penis exercises. Not sure if they were stride jumps, burpees or what. Lol I'm sure most of us would like to see more of this, a lengthier version so to speak. Thanks.

[YEA]  I lost my libido when I went on birth control pills, and after taking them for three months I switched to a non-hormonal copper IUD. After stopping, I waited six months and still experienced a very low sex drive (not as low as while on the pill, but still quite low). It was having a very negative affect on my sex life, so I looked into remedies and tried cayenne pepper. I am only posting this because the results were so profound. Within 20 minutes of taking it (I stirred it into some water) my sex drive skyrocketed and I experienced an amount of lubrication that I had very rarely experienced in the 9 months prior. I took it again for the next few days, and my libido remained high. It continued to increase for the next few weeks, although I stopped taking the cayenne. I am not sure what exactly the cayenne did, but I no longer suffer from decreased sex drive, and I have not taken cayenne in over a month. It somehow broke through the wall that was keeping me from arousal. I would say that it could be coincidental, but my libido literally began to improve dramatically 20 minutes after my first dose of cayenne, and has been consistently high since then.

[YEA]  Cayenne pepper has improve my sex life, I'm getting good circulation through out my body, a Gr8 stimulant. That has always been in my seasoning, spice & herb rack. My girlfriend thinks it's viagra (not)! I told her years ago it was cayenne pepper.

[YEA]  I have been using cayenne pepper for years on food since I love spicy foods. Since I have been taking it as a tea my sinus issues have finished! However, I have found one side-effect that may not be a bad thing; at times about 30 minutes after drinking the tea I get a Viagra effect. Must be increased circulation? I am a believer and always take it with me when traveling.

Coconut Oil   1  0

[YEA]  Coconut oil to improve libido: For about 6 years I have struggled with low libido. I tried to always be there for my husband but it wasn't as much fun for either of us when I didn't really care to.

About a month ago I started trying to make sure I got plenty of sleep & I also started taking a spoonful (not measured) of virgin coconut oil every morning with my coffee. I suspect the coconut oil is the real winner here, but solving my sleep deficiency helped a lot too.

As long as you aren't allergic it couldn't hurt to try.

Rosemary tea, from spice section, put in tea ball and steep in cup of water.... Only one cup a day or could affect thyroid.... Body may gain circulation and start to tingle.... And you will fell more in love than before.

WARNING; I was drinking three cups a day , because doc oz said it was okay... Not okay: but after three cups a day for three weeks.... Learned not to do that!

I would try to take a sip and it turned into foam in my mouth and couldn't swallow and had to spit it out. Tried again the next day... same thing happened.

I do recommend a cup a day for circulation.

[YEA]  I was looking through cold showers, which led to cold thermogenesis. Tried cold showers as a lark. What an array of benefits. Better digestion, better skin, higher quality sleep, better energy and a completely unexpected side effect, better libido. Ladies, try this before you try hormones etc.

Deer Antler Supplement   1  0

[YEA]  I found an amazing cure for low libido, by complete accident. I was using deer velvet to repair my knees after a marathon I had recently run. I was taking seven 250mg tablets a day, within days of taking them, my sex drive was back to how it was when I was a teenager.

Horny Goat Weed   1  0

[YEA]  hello. I am very surprised that no one mentioned horny goat weed, epimedium grandiflorum, as of use for low libido. one to two 00 capsules (aprox 480mg each) taken about an hour before sex, works well for both men and women. I am post menopausal, and have a lot of the issues that go with this. I have rediscovered my sex drive lol. a word of warning, if you have high blood pressure, use with caution, as horney goat weed can raise bp, especially in males. Also, DO NOT use the capsules that are sold at adult stores, as these have been cut with who knows what, and contain very little of the actual herb.

Silver: thanx for your post on the efficacy of HGW. This is one I haven't yet tried, but I have good results w/ Tribulis, Ginsing, and Macca. Recently I read how Avena Sativa is very good enhancer and the results were noticeably profound at first use, but always work. If I understand correctly, the Wild Oats (Avena Sativa) doesn't work like the other T boosters in that it doesn't actually increase the production of Testosterone but helps the body utilize what is already floating around in the bloodstream, thereby increasing tissue concentrations of T (where it counts).

In conclusion, always use Avena Sativa in combination w/ the many other T boosting herbs for maximum effect. In addendum, supplementing the mineral Selenium also enhances the sex.

Hydrilla   1  0

[YEA]  Being in my early 50's I've experienced a significant decrease in my libido over the past several years. Various factors can be attributed to it, age & increased stress, etc. Although a part of me doesn't miss the added distraction of testosterone, I decided to experiment with many different natural enhancers. Most have a general stimulating "edgy" effect which I don't care for. I recently started taking Hydrilla for an occasional food based Calcium and a surprising side effect has been with my libido. More so with erectile dysfunction than enhanced desire. It is considered a nuisance weed, but it is loaded with minerals, so it probably had something my body was lacking. It has a calming (calcium) effect as well.

I would like to add that I've been taking Maca root powder, about a tablespoon a day ..recommended dose is a teaspoon. It seems to have a balancing effect on adrenals...I've noticed an improvement in sexual energy as well as a calming effect. It is reported as being good for both sexes.

Are there any natural treatments to heighten male libido? There are several meds and illnesses on board that cant be changed.

@Elissa: Most natural treatments for low male libido is herbs or supplements to boost testosterone. There is a notable exception of the herb Yohimbine, which acts very much like Viagra or Cealis (these substances improve blood flow).

How any of these would effect the preconditions and meds you didn't mention specifically, don't know. The illnesses and meds themselves will obviously decrease male performance, so it would be advised to improve upon these conditions w/ a more holistic approach which would include healthy diet, supplements, and exercise. A nutrition counselor or chiropractor or naturalpathic doctor would certainly help improve overall health.

There is an abundance of testosterone boosting supplements on the market and advertisements everywhere now days. Look on the shelfs of any supercenter, grocer, healthfood store, or pharmacy. The more ingredience listed the better. Read all info on bottle and start w/ minimal doses.

As for something specific right now, I would recommend Avena Sativa (Wild Oats) as it increases tissue levels of testosterone, not production. Stinging Nettles works similar to A. S. But also supports prostate gland function (which improves male function). The minerals zinc & selenium are very important for male health.

[YEA]  Lost libido, ability to have orgasm, and natural lubrication (and inability to lose weight, zero energy, focus, etc, etc) in '94 following mastectomy and chemo. Multitude of drs no help. During hospitalization for pancreatitis in Feb. '13 (20 days), I got b 12 injections for 7 days. Drs later decided I wasn't really deficient, but within days, I had surge of libido. Over next 6 months lost 50 lbs, rediscovered muscle and concentration, etc. Effect started dropping off. Taking oral 5000 mcg but weight loss hasn't picked up. Just started using patch. Libido is improving again. Orgasm too. Following paleo diet (stopped chronic sinusitis and psoriasis). Using many supplements recommended here including mg (great for restless legs but no effect on libido), maca , vit d, vco, Apple Cider Vinegar and more. They helped with many things but not libido. Will continue experimenting. Definitely feel b 12 caused my turn around. Wish my various drs were less hidebound. Shame to spend 20 years begging for help and one simple blood test revealed it.

Mucuna Pruriens   0  0

Posted by rick (knoxville, tn) on 06/20/2009

Mucuna pruriens is a tropical bean and is a natural source of dopamine. Dopamine is intimately connected to arousal. It is also the critical brain chemical in Parkinson's Disease, a disorder that I have dealt with for 17 years.

A group of we PWP were experimenting with the use of Muruna last year and I can attest to its effects upon male libido. But, let's face it, a good glass of tap water can qualify for many men.

What was unusual, however, was that women reported similar effects. As one of the first to notice commented, "I knew something was up when my ex- started loooking good!"

I can't suggest a dosage since the PD has an independent effect that would make such info irrelevant, so you will have to do some trial and error. It can be ordered as a raw powder via Amazon. Since mentioning a specific brand is discouraged here, I will only say that the excellent product which I used was grown in the US, was organic, and was only about $10 to $15 per pound. One caution, the powder is an incredible black stain once it is wet. The only thing that takes it off of enameled steel is oxyclean type remover.

[YEA]  Ladies, I must be the lucky one. After 7 weeks post surgery I am going strong, but very carefully...of course. But Im going to share my vitamin protocol with you. I was horny after three weeks of surgery.(yes,.. i waited!!) I had lyposc hyst while keeping my ovaries. i had a severe prolapse from a hard labor 19 years ago..! I have always had a great sex drive and have been very good with how I approach my health. I am 42 and have been using apple cider vinegar and water as a supplement for twenty years. I eat very well with juicing my veggies and using coconut oil. But... for the sex drive I have been taking Fennugreek and saw palmetto for quite a while. I find that taking the saw palmetto seperately about an hour or so before I plan my attack is better. I also started adding dong quai with my fennugreek three weeks before my surgery for the added benefit of helping my hormones. Fennugreek, and dong quai are estro helpers and toners. Saw palmetto is more for the male prostate but is also a female toner and great for the libido. L arginnine is in all the sex supplements and I have also been using this for years as I am in the army and do alot of training with various aminos.

Daily I take Fennugreek and dong quai in the morning with my breakfast and in the afternoon when i come for lunch I take my saw palmetto. Now i must tell you that i take my supplements not for sex but because I will personnally NEVER take hormones because of my surgery. Thats just my creed and i am not a doctor but I am blessed with my health and happy I recoverered so well. I also take Kyrogreens everyday in my juice or shake and I have noted on the website" Earthclinic" that others have said that the Kyrogreens helped them with libido. Again, I take this supplement because it contains greens like kelp and wheatgrass ( yesssss..I am one of those...) not for the other. For extra stealth in the bedroom I take 2000 mg L arginnine plus 4 x.320mg saw palmetto if you're planning on sex within a couple of hours. I prefer to get my supplements from Swanson herbs as they carry good extracts and are almost as cheap as MOI. I hope this helps someone, I almost never blog but our health is our energy and we should treat ours bodies as blessed friends.. Give a hoot ...dont pollute..

Also, months after I stopped taking the lemon balm, I took apple cider vinegar, 3 tablespoons a day. Result: horny again :D
