Borax for Arthritis

Borax is one of Earth Clinic's most discussed natural remedies for arthritis, joint stiffness, trigger finger, bone spurs, heel spurs, calcification, and reduced mobility. Many readers explore borax because it supplies boron, a trace mineral involved in bone health, mineral balance, calcium metabolism, hormone activity, and inflammatory signaling.

This article focuses specifically on borax for arthritis: why Earth Clinic readers use it, how people commonly take borax for arthritis, what dosage protocols are most often discussed, which co-factors may help, and what safety precautions are important.

Important: Borax is a household mineral product, not an approved dietary supplement or arthritis treatment. The information below is based on Earth Clinic reader experiences, historical community protocols, and boron research. It is provided for educational purposes only and should not replace medical care.

At a Glance

  • Borax contains boron, a trace mineral linked to bone, joint, and mineral metabolism.
  • Earth Clinic readers most often discuss borax for osteoarthritis, chronic stiffness, trigger finger, heel spurs, bone spurs, and calcification concerns.
  • Common reader reports mention improved mobility, flexibility, grip strength, and morning stiffness.
  • Traditional protocols involve fully diluted borax water, not dry powder.
  • Many readers combine boron or borax with magnesium, vitamin D3, vitamin K2, omega-3s, or anti-inflammatory diet changes.
  • Pregnant women, children, people with kidney disease, and anyone taking medications should avoid unsupervised internal borax use.
Earth Clinic Experience:

For more than two decades, Earth Clinic readers have shared experiences using borax for arthritis, joint stiffness, trigger finger, heel spurs, bone spurs, calcification, hand stiffness, knee discomfort, and mobility concerns. The reports on this page represent one of the largest collections of community feedback on borax and arthritis available online.

What Earth Clinic Readers Report About Borax for Arthritis

After two decades of reader submissions, several consistent patterns emerge from the Earth Clinic borax and arthritis community. These are not clinical findings — they are observations drawn from hundreds of individual reports submitted by readers around the world.

How quickly do readers notice changes?

Timelines vary widely. Some readers describe noticing a difference within days. Others report gradual improvement over several weeks. A recurring theme in the posts is that readers who expect overnight results sometimes give up too early. Long-term users often note that the first benefit they noticed was reduced morning stiffness, followed gradually by better mobility and flexibility.

One reader with a 10-year history of daily borax use reported being pain-free throughout that period after a diagnosis of back arthritis. Another described meaningful improvement in hand and leg mobility within six weeks after years of worsening symptoms. A third, dealing with rheumatoid arthritis, stopped noticing benefit only when she ran out of borax for two weeks — at which point stiffness and pain returned — and recovered again after resuming.

Which conditions do readers most often discuss?

Osteoarthritis is the most frequently mentioned condition in reader posts, followed by rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. Trigger finger, heel spurs, and bone spurs also appear often. Several readers describe arriving at borax after years on prescription anti-inflammatory medications or pain injections, citing side effects or diminishing effectiveness as reasons for seeking alternatives.

What dosage do experienced readers use?

The most common dosage pattern among experienced long-term users is the traditional Ted protocol: 1/8 teaspoon (women) or 1/4 teaspoon (men) in 1 liter of water, sipped throughout the day, 5 days on and 2 days off. However, a notable pattern in the posts is that many readers start lower than the traditional protocol — sometimes much lower — and increase gradually only after confirming tolerance. Some readers with years of experience have settled at doses below the traditional amount and report sustained results.

One Earth Clinic contributor who has used borax for 15 years to keep arthritis in remission regularly advises new readers to start with the full liter dilution rather than a concentrated cup of coffee-sized dose, noting that the slow sipping approach functions like a timed-release delivery and is better tolerated by people with gastrointestinal sensitivity.

Do readers use borax alone or with other supplements?

Most experienced readers combine borax with supportive supplements. Magnesium is by far the most commonly mentioned co-factor, cited for its role in mineral balance and muscle comfort. Vitamin D3, vitamin K2, and omega-3 fatty acids also appear frequently. Several readers note that their results improved meaningfully only after they added magnesium alongside borax, and some suggest that boron may increase the body's demand for magnesium.

Reader Pattern:

Many of the most positive long-term reports on this page come from readers who combined borax or boron with magnesium, dietary changes, and consistent hydration. Results from borax alone, without attention to co-factors, appear more mixed in the community posts.

Do all readers respond positively?

No. The Earth Clinic community is candid about this. A meaningful minority of readers report that borax did not help them or that they could not tolerate it. One Earth Clinic contributor documents a case where a friend's borax protocol was discontinued on medical advice, her arthritis returned severely, and borax no longer worked when she resumed it years later. This account is regularly cited in reader discussions as a reason to think carefully before stopping a working protocol.

Some readers appear to tolerate boron supplements better than borax itself, and several contributors recommend boron capsules as an alternative for those who experience persistent digestive or other reactions to borax.

Borax for Arthritis Benefits

Readers who search for borax for arthritis are usually looking for something deeper than temporary pain relief. Many are dealing with long-standing stiffness, reduced range of motion, calcification concerns, or joint changes that have developed over years.

Earth Clinic readers most often discuss borax for:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Morning stiffness
  • Trigger finger
  • Knuckle stiffness
  • Knee and hip stiffness
  • Heel spurs and bone spurs
  • Calcified tendons
  • Reduced flexibility
  • Joint cracking and popping
  • General mobility concerns

These benefits are based on reader reports and should not be considered proof that borax treats arthritis. However, they help explain why borax remains one of Earth Clinic's most discussed remedies for joint health.

How Boron May Support Joint Health

Borax supplies boron, a trace mineral involved in several pathways that may be relevant to joints, bones, tendons, and connective tissue.

Boron is commonly discussed for its relationship to:

  • Calcium and magnesium balance: Boron may influence how the body handles key minerals involved in bone and joint health.
  • Vitamin D activity: Boron is often discussed alongside vitamin D because both are involved in mineral metabolism.
  • Inflammatory signaling: Some boron research explores inflammatory markers and joint-related pathways.
  • Connective tissue integrity: Readers often connect boron with cartilage, tendons, collagen, and joint flexibility.
  • Hormone activity: Boron has been studied in relation to steroid hormone metabolism, which may matter for bone and connective tissue health.

Many readers believe arthritis involves more than simple "wear and tear." They often describe it as a combination of mineral imbalance, inflammation, oxidative stress, tendon thickening, and abnormal calcium deposition.

Some readers also propose a fluoride connection — the theory being that fluoride accumulated in joints and bones over decades may contribute to stiffness and calcification, and that boron may help the body process and excrete fluoride. This theory is not medically established, but it appears consistently in Earth Clinic borax discussions and motivates many readers to try the protocol.

How to Take Borax for Arthritis

Earth Clinic readers most commonly discuss taking borax for arthritis by dissolving a very small amount of borax in a larger amount of water. The goal is dilution. Borax is not typically discussed as a dry powder taken directly.

The two most common approaches are:

  • Ted's diluted-water protocol: A small amount of borax dissolved in 1 liter of water and sipped through the day.
  • Walter Last's stock solution method: A stronger concentrate is prepared first, and then a small measured amount of that prepared liquid is added to water.

Do Not Take Dry Borax by Guesswork

Historical Earth Clinic protocols involve dilution. They do not involve swallowing dry borax powder directly. Small measurement errors can create large differences in boron exposure. Readers who have taken borax in capsule form without water dilution report stronger side effects and less favorable tolerability.

Borax Dosage for Arthritis

There is no officially approved borax dosage for arthritis. Borax is not sold as a dietary supplement, and internal use remains controversial. The protocols below reflect historical Earth Clinic discussion and reader reports, not medical recommendations.

Borax contains approximately 11% to 11.3% elemental boron by weight. This means even small dry powder amounts can represent a larger amount of boron than many people realize before dilution.

Ted's Borax Protocol

Ted from Bangkok popularized the most widely discussed Earth Clinic borax protocol. The traditional version is usually described as:

Ted's Traditional Borax Recipe

  • Women or smaller adults: 1/8 teaspoon borax dissolved in 1 liter of water
  • Men or larger adults: 1/4 teaspoon borax dissolved in 1 liter of water
  • Method: Sip the diluted water slowly throughout the day
  • Common schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off

Many sensitive readers report starting with smaller amounts than the traditional protocol — some as low as 1/16 teaspoon or a "pinch" — and increasing gradually only if tolerated. Earth Clinic contributor Art, who has used borax for 15 years, recommends the full 1-liter sipping approach specifically because it delivers boron slowly rather than as a concentrated dose, which he finds is better tolerated and more effective for sustained joint support.

Some readers also ask whether borax can be taken in coffee instead of water. The consensus in reader discussions is that the full liter of water sipped throughout the day is preferable to a single concentrated cup, particularly for anyone new to borax or with digestive sensitivity.

Walter Last's Borax Protocol

Walter Last's method is different from Ted's standard liter-of-water protocol. It uses a stock solution, meaning the borax is dissolved into water first, and only a small amount of that prepared liquid concentrate is used.

Walter Last-Style Stock Solution

  • Dissolve 1 level teaspoon borax into 1 quart or 1 liter of water.
  • Shake thoroughly until dissolved.
  • Use 1 to 2 teaspoons of this liquid concentrate added to a larger glass of water.

This is not the same as taking 1 to 2 teaspoons of dry borax. The teaspoon measurement refers to the prepared liquid concentrate. This distinction is important and a frequent source of confusion for new readers.

Common Challenges and How Readers Solved Them

The Earth Clinic borax and arthritis posts are unusually rich with troubleshooting detail. The following challenges appear repeatedly, along with the approaches readers have described.

Digestive upset or nausea

This is the most commonly reported problem, especially among new users. The most frequent reader solution is to reduce the amount and slow down: start lower, dilute more, and sip more slowly over a longer period. Several readers note that taking borax with or after food reduces stomach irritation compared to taking it on an empty stomach. Taking borax before bed is specifically flagged by experienced readers as a potential cause of digestive disturbance.

Skin reactions, itching, or hives

A subset of readers report skin reactions ranging from mild itching to hives. Some attribute these to detox or die-off reactions, particularly if candida or parasites are suspected. Others find that reducing the dose and increasing hydration resolves the issue. For readers who experience persistent or severe skin reactions, switching to boron supplements rather than borax is the most commonly recommended alternative.

Symptoms that return after stopping

Multiple readers describe a clear pattern: borax works, they stop for various reasons, symptoms return, and resuming borax brings relief again. This pattern is cited frequently as personal evidence that borax is the active variable. However, one well-documented Earth Clinic case describes a reader who stopped borax on a doctor's recommendation, experienced a severe return of osteoarthritis, and found that borax no longer worked when she resumed years later. Experienced contributors frequently reference this case when advising readers to think carefully before discontinuing a working protocol.

Unsure about the right dose

The variation in reader dosage reports is wide, and newcomers are often uncertain where to start. A practical pattern from the community: start lower than the traditional protocol (1/16 teaspoon or less), confirm tolerance over 1 to 2 weeks, and increase gradually if needed. Older adults and those with smaller body weight are often advised to stay at the lower end of the range. One 83-year-old reader in the posts describes doing well on a combination of 1/16 teaspoon borax, Celtic salt, and baking soda.

No response after several weeks

Some readers report trying borax for several weeks without noticeable benefit. The most common suggestions from experienced contributors in these cases are: check co-factors (especially magnesium and vitamin D), evaluate hydration, consider whether diet changes might be needed, and rule out whether the borax product being used contains any additives or detergents. Plain sodium borate with no added fragrance, surfactants, or laundry boosters is consistently recommended.

Trigger Finger, Bone Spurs, and Calcification

Many Earth Clinic readers connect borax with calcification-related concerns, including trigger finger, heel spurs, bone spurs, calcium deposits, and stiff joints.

The community theory is that boron may help support healthier calcium and magnesium balance. Some readers believe boron helps the body use calcium more appropriately rather than allowing calcium to accumulate in soft tissues, tendons, or joints. Earth Clinic founder Deirdre Layne has written about her own experience with trigger finger and borax, noting that improvement in finger joint stiffness appeared within the first week, while improvement in trigger thumb took approximately three weeks.

This does not mean borax treats trigger finger, bone spurs, or calcification disorders. These are complex conditions that may involve inflammation, tendon thickening, mechanical stress, mineral metabolism, and other factors. However, these topics are among the most common reasons readers explore borax for arthritis and joint stiffness.

Helpful Co-Factors

Earth Clinic readers often report better tolerance or stronger results when borax or boron is combined with supportive nutrients. These co-factors are commonly discussed because arthritis, stiffness, and calcification concerns often involve more than one pathway.

  • Magnesium: The most frequently mentioned co-factor. Readers use it for muscle relaxation, calcium balance, and cramping. Boron is thought by some readers to increase the body's demand for magnesium, making adequate intake especially important.
  • Vitamin D3: Supports bone and mineral metabolism. Often discussed alongside borax for joint health.
  • Vitamin K2: Frequently discussed for directing calcium into bone rather than soft tissues.
  • MSM (methylsulfonylmethane): Several readers combine borax with MSM for joint comfort and report strong results with the combination.
  • Omega-3s: Used by readers for inflammatory balance and joint comfort.
  • Riboflavin (B2): Sometimes discussed for energy metabolism and mineral adjustment.
  • Hydration and electrolytes: Important when using any mineral protocol. Several readers attribute side effects to insufficient water intake rather than borax itself.

Boron-Rich Foods

Some readers prefer to begin with food sources of boron before considering borax or boron supplements. Boron-rich foods include:

  • Prunes
  • Raisins
  • Dates
  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Avocados
  • Almonds
  • Walnuts
  • Beans and lentils

Many readers believe modern soil depletion may reduce trace mineral intake, which is one reason boron supplements and borax protocols remain popular in Earth Clinic discussions.

Borax vs Boron Supplements for Arthritis

People researching borax for arthritis often wonder whether they should use borax or a standard boron supplement. Both are discussed regularly in the Earth Clinic community.

Boron Supplements

  • Usually provide a measured amount of elemental boron (commonly 3 mg to 10 mg per capsule)
  • Common forms include boron citrate, boron glycinate, calcium fructoborate, and ionic boron
  • Easier to dose precisely
  • Often preferred by people uncomfortable with household borax
  • Recommended by experienced Earth Clinic contributors for readers who do not tolerate borax

Borax

  • Contains approximately 11% to 11.3% boron by weight
  • Much lower cost per gram of boron
  • Requires careful dilution and measurement
  • Historically discussed in Earth Clinic arthritis testimonials for over 20 years
  • The 1/8 teaspoon women's dose delivers approximately 55 mg of boron — considerably more than most supplement capsules

For readers who want predictable dosing or have experienced digestive sensitivity to borax, boron supplements may be simpler. For readers researching traditional Earth Clinic protocols, borax is often discussed because of its long community history and low cost. Some readers use both: borax for periods of active joint discomfort and boron supplements for ongoing maintenance.

Herxheimer and Adjustment Symptoms

Some readers report temporary symptoms when beginning borax or increasing too quickly. These are sometimes described as "Herxheimer" reactions or detox symptoms, although the exact cause is uncertain. They are most commonly reported in the first one to two weeks and tend to resolve as the body adjusts.

Commonly reported adjustment symptoms include:

  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Body aches
  • Brain fog
  • Digestive changes
  • Temporary stiffness flare
  • Skin changes or mild rash

Helpful strategies reported by readers include reducing the amount, pausing temporarily, increasing hydration, supporting electrolytes, ensuring adequate magnesium, and restarting more gradually. A number of readers in the posts describe feeling feverish or flu-like in the early days and attribute this to the body mobilizing stored fluoride or clearing other toxins. Whether or not this interpretation is accurate, most readers who persisted through it at a lower dose report that symptoms resolved.

Safety and Warnings

Important Safety Information

  • Borax is not an approved dietary supplement or arthritis treatment.
  • Do not take dry borax powder directly or in capsules without full water dilution.
  • Always fully dilute borax in water if researching traditional protocols.
  • Do not confuse borax with boric acid.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid internal borax protocols.
  • Children should not use internal borax protocols.
  • People with kidney disease or reduced kidney function should avoid unsupervised use.
  • Anyone taking prescription medications should consult a qualified healthcare provider before use.
  • Stop if severe or unusual symptoms occur.
  • Use only plain sodium borate. Avoid products with added fragrances, detergents, surfactants, "Oxi" boosters, or optical brighteners.

Borax and boric acid are not the same substance. Boric acid is more acidic and is generally used topically rather than internally. Do not substitute boric acid for borax in any Earth Clinic protocol.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can borax help arthritis?

Many Earth Clinic readers report using borax for arthritis, stiffness, trigger finger, bone spurs, and mobility concerns. Borax supplies boron, a trace mineral involved in bone and mineral metabolism. However, borax should not be considered a proven arthritis treatment or cure.

How much borax do people take for arthritis?

The most commonly discussed Earth Clinic protocol is 1/8 teaspoon borax in 1 liter of water for women or smaller adults, and 1/4 teaspoon borax in 1 liter of water for men or larger adults, sipped throughout the day on a 5 days on, 2 days off schedule. Many readers start lower than this — some as little as 1/16 teaspoon — and increase gradually. These are historical community protocols, not official medical recommendations.

Can I take borax in coffee instead of water?

Some readers do take borax this way, but experienced contributors generally advise against it as a starting approach. The 1-liter sipping method delivers boron slowly over hours, which is better tolerated and is thought by many readers to be more effective than a single concentrated dose. Readers with gastrointestinal sensitivity in particular are advised to use the full liter dilution.

How long does borax take to work for arthritis?

Reader timelines vary. Some report changes within days, particularly reduced morning stiffness. Others describe gradual improvement over several weeks or months. Several long-term users note that borax works best when combined with supportive co-factors like magnesium and vitamin D. Response may also depend on severity, mineral status, diet, and individual tolerance.

Why do people use borax for arthritis?

Readers use borax because it contains boron, which is discussed for calcium and magnesium balance, vitamin D activity, hormone metabolism, inflammatory signaling, and connective tissue support. Some readers also believe it helps the body process accumulated fluoride, which they associate with joint stiffness and calcification.

What type of arthritis do readers discuss?

Reader reports most often mention osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, trigger finger, hand stiffness, knee and hip stiffness, heel spurs, bone spurs, and calcification concerns. These reports are anecdotal and should not replace medical diagnosis or treatment.

Is borax the same as boron?

No. Boron is a trace mineral. Borax is a sodium borate compound that contains boron. Boron supplements provide measured milligram doses, while borax requires dilution and conversion. The 1/8 teaspoon women's dose of borax delivers approximately 55 mg of boron — far more than a typical 3 mg boron capsule.

Is borax the same as boric acid?

No. Borax and boric acid are different compounds with different properties. Boric acid should not be substituted for borax in internal dilution protocols.

What if I can't tolerate borax?

Several experienced Earth Clinic contributors recommend boron supplements as an alternative for readers who experience persistent digestive upset, skin reactions, or other intolerances. Boron citrate, boron glycinate, and ionic boron are among the forms most often mentioned. Starting at a lower dose (3 mg per day) and increasing gradually is the approach most commonly suggested.

Can I take borax every day for arthritis?

Reader approaches vary. The traditional Ted protocol includes scheduled days off (5 on, 2 off). Some long-term users have taken borax daily for years with no reported issues, while others prefer cycling. Because borax is not an approved dietary supplement, there is no universally accepted schedule. Conservative use and professional guidance are important, particularly for older adults or anyone with health conditions.

Takeaway

Borax remains one of Earth Clinic's most discussed remedies for arthritis, chronic stiffness, trigger finger, heel spurs, bone spurs, and calcification concerns because it provides a low-cost source of boron. Reader testimonials often focus on mobility, flexibility, grip strength, and stiffness, but results vary widely and not every reader responds.

The Earth Clinic approach is conservative: understand the difference between borax and boric acid, use full dilution, avoid dry powder dosing, consider supportive co-factors such as magnesium and vitamin D, pay close attention to individual tolerance, and start lower than the traditional protocol if you are new or sensitive.

Boron Gives Life;

The brain contains 85% water, blood 90%, kidneys 82%, muscles 75%, and bones 22%. On average, men's bodies are 55-65% water, and women's bodies are 50-60% water. The brain has a high water content, and it functions well only in a watery environment; as the water content decreases, brain functions decline. If aluminum and calcium increase in the brain, calcification can cause forgetfulness, followed by Alzheimer's disease and other disorders. Boron, however, does not stand alone; it is found in a central structure with 2 boron elements, 4 sodium molecules attached to them, and 10 water molecules surrounding them. In 1997, Naghii and Samman applied a low-boron diet to one group of healthy men over 45, and a diet containing 10 mg of boron daily to another group. As a result of the research, calcium excretion in urine decreased in the men who took the supplement, and calcium retention in bones increased by 17%. Naghii M, Samman S. found that boron deficiency in humans and animals is associated with increased calcium excretion in urine. Nielsen F. determined that boron has a scavenging effect on reactive oxygen radicals in the cell membrane. Studies on humans and animals have shown that boron deficiency reduces the electrical activity of the brain. It has been stated that boron deficiency initially leads to short-term memory loss, attention deficit, impaired perception, decreased motor activity speed, and later to more severe disorders such as Alzheimer's, depression, schizophrenia, etc.

Boron-Calcium Metabolism (Wars, Antagonists = Enemy Brothers);

Whether we call the boron-calcium relationship metabolic changes, antagonistic oppositions, or boron-calcium buffer systems, there is a very complex boron-calcium relationship. This boron-calcium relationship... If boron decreases at any point in the body, calcium attempts to compensate for this deficiency. Where calcium accumulates, various diseases occur. When you replenish the depleted boron, calcium released from the bones returns to the bones, improving quality of life and eliminating diseases.

1) If boron decreases in the cell membrane, calcium takes its place. If calcium accumulates in the cell and cell membrane, the cell hardens and its functions decrease.

2) If boron decreases in the intercellular fluid, calcium takes its place. If calcium accumulates, the intercellular fluid becomes polluted, its flow slows down, and over time, a breeding ground for microbes, like a swamp, develops.

3) If boron decreases and calcium increases in the nervous system, the nervous system loses its conductivity and over time triggers disorders such as MS, polyneuropathy, nerve inflammation, forgetfulness, Alzheimer's, and depression.

4) If calcium replaces boron in the lymphatic system, the lymphatic system hardens. The lymphatic system collects waste like the body's mechanical systems. If calcium accumulates in the lymphatic system, the lymphatic channels become clogged and trigger inflammatory diseases. This can lead to swollen and inflamed lymph nodes, and later to lymphoma.

5) If calcium replaces boron on the inner surface of blood vessels, the vessels harden, and atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries and plaque formation) can cause conditions such as brain hemorrhage, heart attack, diabetes, fatty liver disease, and sexual dysfunction.

6) If calcium replaces boron in joints and soft tissues, conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, and ankylosing spondylitis recur.

7) With a slightly increased boron intake, body temperature also increases slightly, thus gradually melting stored fats and causing weight loss. Considering that obesity kills 300,000 people annually, this weight loss method is very inexpensive and problem-free.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

Borax for arthritis:

I have been taking about 1/16 tsp of borax, Celtic salt and baking soda for about 2 weeks. Today I woke up with very sore thigh muscles. Would this be a side effect of the borax? Otherwise I feel great. I may not be drinking enough water. I should add that I am 83 years old.

I started taking Borax to remove the fluoride from my bones more than 10 years ago. At that time, I was having to get pain shots almost monthly so I could walk due to rheumatoid arthritis. After starting Borax, I didn't notice any changes right away but I quit taking it after a couple of months because I ran out of bottled water. Within 2 weeks in July, I woke up, could hardly move&was so sore&stiff&in pain. As a former nurse, I started looking at what changed&I kept coming back to the Borax. After a little more research, I learned Borax was an old time arthritis treatment.I started taking it again&went back to no pain or stiffness in my bones&continue to this day. I put 1/8th teaspoon in my coffee at least 5 times a week. People have seen me before&after Borax&I tell them what I do&I get crazy looks. No one else will try it but I digress. While I'm still chasing chickens&climbing into tree stands, they can barely get off their couch. The best part about Borax-relief from arthritis symptoms, no more pain shots & no side effects like many arthritis medications. My doctor is amazed because she thought I'd be in a wheelchair by now. I'm almost 60 y o&I'm not going to let arthritis ruin the rest of my life. My question is-is arthritis today a real disease or is it consequences of drinking fluoridated water?

I woke up with body-wide rheumatitis a few years ago, and we have had a reverse osmosis drinking water system in our house for a decade, or longer. The only water we drink is RO water, although the water in our showers and baths is not RO water. I have no idea why I got this, but I don't think it is because of our drinking water.

RO water is usually PH. 4 which is acid. Water should be Ph 7 or higher for health benefits.

I have read that reverse osmosis water may be too clean for your body in that a lot of minerals have been removed from the water. The RO water may be leaching minerals from your body. if you want to learn about water, read books about Viktor Schauberger. Brilliant man, but seldom mentioned.

Be careful with RO. My girlfriend drank that her whole adult life and ended up with bladder cancer.

i used zero Water filters the last couple years and have had the worse IBS with diarrhea. Quit the zero water two weeks ago and my gut is back to normal. Not sure why but either they take out something we need or add something we don't need.

RO water has all minerals removed and is acidic! Not well for the body! I researched back in 2015 after finding flouride was cause to my bowel leakage and by avoiding fluoride in my diet…that bowel issue went away! So researched water statement read the cons to RO water. In 2016 invested in the Berkey system with add on fluoride filters! But good ol EPA ..after Berkey in business for well over 20 years ..decided to halt their production of their black filters with lame excuse the filters were considered a pesticide or something like that….basically the filters removed viruses and with the corrupt system was also using water supply to spread their covid….the Berkey company was then attacked! Berkey is fighting this and are other options to replacing their filters! A corrupt system that's bought health agencies ..like EPA…to stop …the good things!!!
But in researching water systems was not encouraged to use RO water mainly as it is acidic!

Even if you started using RO ten years ago, that would have no bearing on the fluoride already stored in your body for decades. Fluoride won't leave the body unless you manually decalcify your body. It is a heavy metal that has alchemized into denser than bone calcium (a form of anyways) and it isn't going anywhere unless dissolved. Guess what dissolves it? Borax! But having said that, most people forget with any detox, you need a binder if it is too much calcification in your body. It reaches the brain, organs, bones, skin, gut, etc. So even if you stopped intaking fluoride in all forms, (toothpaste, water, deodorant, shower water, food, etc) you still need to reverse the damage from all the years you didn't do anything but consume it.

Reverse osmosis is a double edged sword, yes it takes all the bad stuff out but it also takes all the good minerals out also. Not good for living creatures it's horrible for house plants also.

Hi Petter,

That can work for some people, but it won't work for everyone because that is a relatively concentrated amount in a relatively short period of time. For people who have gastrointestinal sensitivity to borax it may be too much. Borax is a high pH product and that can be irritating for some people as has been reported on EC before. If you are sensitive to borax, diluting in a quart of water or more and sipping throughout the day can be the difference between being able to use borax or not being able to use borax if you take it in a more concentrated solution such as the cup of coffee you mentioned. The full quart dilution is essentially a timed release solution that will help to maintain a steady state of borax in your body, which is likely to be a more effective approach when first starting borax to try and achieve optimal effect.

For me, I would rather be able to take borax than not because it has been life changing for me.

Hey! I'm starting w the 1/8 tsp in a liter of water method. I' a bit confused if I'm to drink this at once (I did today with my first meal), or if I'm to start upon rising and just drink all day. Or if I should drink on empty stomach. I'm basically reading people's testimonials and getting confused! Thank you!!

Hi Andrea,

The borax should be sipped throughout the day. Here is a link to Earth Clinics(EC) page specifically for borax and arthritis that should answer any questions you may have about using borax for arthritis:

https://www.earthclinic.com/borax-remedy-for-arthritis.html

Some EC members have reported that taking the dose all at once has caused stomach upset or discomfort.

A friend's sister from Texas was out visiting her sister near me about 8 months ago and she was telling me that she thought this would be her last time coming to visit her sister because her arthritis hurt so much that the travel by plane to visit her sister was really difficult and painful because of her arthritis. I suggested that she might give some consideration to borax, but she seemed really reluctant at first so I told her that I have used borax to keep my arthritis in remission for about 15 years now. She told me she would try it because the pain was really getting unbearable. By the time she went home to Texas, she had started taking borax water at 1/8th teaspoon per day on the weekdays with weekends off.

I picked her up at the local airport last week to take her to my friend's house. I told her that I thought she wasn't going to visit her sister any more because of her arthritis and she said that was her plan, but since being on borax for about a month or so, she no longer has any arthritis pain, so she can now come visit her sister regularly again, thanks to borax! She told me she still takes it and has recommended it to her friend's mother in Texas because it has worked so well for her.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

Hi, I started taking an 1/8 tsp in a capsule about six weeks ago. After 8 straight days, my palms started itching. So I stopped taking it for about a week, then started back taking it every other day for 2 weeks. At the end of the 2 weeks I started taking it again every day hoping my body would have gotten used to it. After a week and a half of taking it every day, I woke up (I take it at night before bed) and began to feel stomach cramps followed closely by terrible diarrhea, feeling nauseous, itching palms and feet, feeling faint, and I broke out in a sweat and got hives and whelps all over my body and face! Even my eyes were red and bloodshot! I was alone at home, so it was scary. I really don't want to stop taking it because for the first time in years I have had no arthritis pain! But now I am afraid to continue taking it. Should I stop all together? Take less than the 1/8 tsp per day? Take it every other day? Please help!

Pam,

Some people do not tolerate borax and you appear to be in that group and should stop borax altogether.

An alternative to consider is boron. Sometimes when people don't tolerate borax, they are able to take boron which is available in capsules from online supplement suppliers. Here is a typical product :

https://www.amazon.com/Nutricost-Capsules-Vegetarian-Gluten-Non-GMO/dp/B0BBY9TXSB/ref=sr_1_1?crid=27SZC14HWTQTK&keywords=boron+20+mg&qid=1692592244&s=hpc&sprefix=boron+20+mg,hpc,145&sr=1-1

The originator of using borax for arthritis, Dr. Rex Newnham, found that using boron also worked well for arthritis and osteoporosis. You will have to find the dose that works for you. The following article suggests that 10 mg per day could be sufficient for arthritis and that might be a good place to start :

https://assureasmile.com/nutrition-2/preventing-arthritis-pain-with-boron/

By comparison, the 1/8th teaspoon of borax you were taking contained approximately 55 mg of boron.

Do not take borax at bedtime on an empty stomach! Take right after breakfast with food, preferably with some carbs. If 1/4 teaspoon in a liter of water a day bothers you start with a smaller amount 1/16 teaspoon or less and work the dosage up to 1/4. Still some people may not be able to tolerate any borax.

Join Diatomaceous Earth, and Human Parasite Support groups on Facebook. Borax and DE are known parasite killers and these groups are very informative. It sounds like this could've been the cause of your reaction. You can start taking a binder like activated charcoal to help prevent and eliminate side effects of the chemicals that parasites release when they die.

1/8 of an teaspoon of borax is a huge amount! Now you may get away with that and I see that formula on the internet consistently. 1/8 of a teaspoon for females, daily, in a liter of water, sipped throughout the day. A quarter teaspoon for males. But the original formula, is quite different and vastly and significantly lower in dosage, than this new formula! The original formula by the man who pioneered it, was to take one rounded teaspoon of Borax and put it in one liter of water. Then start out slowly with one teaspoon, of this solution, that you just made in a 1 liter bottle (1 Liter, for all of us Americans, is about four and a quarter cups of water) And mix it with your favorite juice or drink it straight and chase it with something. Do that once in the morning with a meal or drink and if that doesn't upset your stomach do it again in the evening. For aggravated conditions of disease, like arthritis, do this three times a day. Using that original formula, you can see where the math wouldn't add up, if you were to take anywhere from 1/8 reason, to a 1/4 of a teaspoon, per day or twice a day!

Pam, first of all, I like to recommend never to fear anything. Trust GOD and be free of that feeling that can only make things worse for you. Second, I believe that your body needs more time to take use to this wonderful medicine. My recommendation is that you take it for three days straight, and stop for taking it for too. Then three days again, and stop another too. Do this for a couple of months and see how your body reacts. After a while, you might want to take it for four days and two days break, then 6 days and two days break and so on until your body absorbs it without causing any side effects.
GOD BLESS!

Hi, you must use him whit protocol, you must start whit lower dose for ex 10mg or 6mg in day for two week, than 2 wk 20mg, one month 30mg, 2 w 40mg, one month 50 mg ..., 1/8 - then ...... 5 days use -2 days pausa (not everyone have pausa all the time but you must have how I see) Because of detox symptoms, and not so fast on high doses, but slow, and use him in morning in water after that pause for one our, becouse he is alkaline, not whit food, and have light dinner not meat (! ), And you must use some good apsorable Mg whit no poison, ect MG bosglicinate, MG taurate, MG treonate, MG citrate, MG malate, no others, because B push in bones MG so you must use him, also some phosphore in food, that is that. You can see in sercher in group Diatomaceus earth maby there is some info. Slow, and if you have detox that stop for 2 days, a lot of water and use again in slower doses, then after some time slow up doses. Bigger doses fast can crush stones in kidneys and is not good for kidneys fast. If BX does not fit for you, just use some organic boron supplements, and do some anti-parasitic programe by drHulda Clark, nature program whit 3 herbs, wormwood must be in powder here, to kill parasites, becouse they can make arthritis also.

The sister of a friend of mine was visiting from Texas and her arthritis was really bothering her. I discussed borax water with her and after a little back and forth with her, she decided to give it a try. At two weeks in she said she could already feel an improvement and even more at three weeks in. She flew home at that point and said she would update me in a few months to let me know how well she does using borax. She is using the 1/8th teaspoon dose in water each day of the week with weekends off.

At the same time, her sister who is my friend and has osteoporosis decided to start on a regimen I had suggested for her which included borax water also, because borax is also good for osteoporosis. Her doctor wanted her to take a drug that required her to inject herself and she refused to do it so she asked me about alternatives. I won't know her results for some time because it takes quite awhile to help osteoporosis that is as bad as hers, but I will report them when she has them.

Hi Pamela,

The sister of my friend came back for a visit around Thanksgiving and she told me that she is pain free now from the arthritis that she felt would keep her from ever visiting her sister again. She told me she is continuing to take her borax water for the other benefits that it has shown in other people.

As to her sister, my friend, she won't know anything until this coming summer at the earliest when her doctor may likely test her to see if her osteoporosis has improved or not. Her doctor is still nagging her to take the self injections, but she has told her doctor, the only way she will take the injections is if she can stop by the doctor's office and have a nurse do the injections for her. Her doctor flatly told her no!

Borax cured my arthritis like a miracle in 6 wks, more energy!!!

I have never left a health review before, but this seems like a miracle!!! I saw an article about borax on Facebook about 6 weeks ago and said "l have nothing to lose". I'm 64 and have been increasingly hurting from arthritis primarily muscle aches and inflammation for the past 10 years.

About a year and a half ago I developed sciatic nerve pain in both legs from (stupidly) replacing a bathroom floor, took me 2 weeks on my hands and knees - what a mistake!!! After many Chiropractic treatments I got some relief but not completely, last treatment was November 2022. After seeing the FB article, I did more research and found this website. I read the reviews on here about 6 weeks ago and decided to try the "20 Mule Team Borax" from Walmart using the quarter teaspoon daily dosage. I did this for about a week but then started to feel feverish so I stopped. After about a week I resumed taking borax but cut back to about 1/64th teaspoon, the amount from just licking my finger tip and touching the borax powder. I've been doing this every other day now for about 2 weeks. I noticed I was feeling better and better, but today I feel amazing!!!! I haven't felt rhis good in YEARS!!! I walked 2 miles today (I haven't walked that far in many years!!! ), then played basketball with my 11yo grandson, all with NO PAIN!!! I am not lying!!! Typically I would be aching like crazy and have to take lots of NSAIDS but I feel great!!! This is a miracle and this is why I'm leaving this review!!! Thank You Jesus!!! I will continue this small every other day dosage. If something changes I will repost the updated review.

I too experienced flue, fever symptoms but after speaking with some people I now believe that these symptoms are some of the ways that your body gets toxins out. Boron helps to get rid of toxins / bad bacteria that cause inflammation which can result in arthritic and other diseases. I have no pain after taking borax. I dilute 1 rounded tsp in a litre of filtered water which I store in the fridge in a glass jar. I then take two tsps of this in a small glass of water 2x a day, usually 4 days on and 4 days off. It also helped me with candida.

Follow-up from my 1st post 3/19/23. Today is 8/27/23, and I wanted to give a follow-up report.

I'm still taking the borax, I'm now taking 1/8 teaspoon a day, Mon-Fri, and none on weekends. I'm still pain free, no arthritis, no sciatic nerve pain in back and legs, and no carpet tunnel. I initially felt a surge of energy and well-being, but that reduced after about a month of taking borax. Although I was basically pain free, I started to have less energy like I had before taking borax. But I tried changing my diet, and so far I've felt better and have more energy. I've gone basically (added)sugar-free, wheat-free and corn -free, and I definitely feel better with more energy!!! I still eat some potatoes, some rice, fruit, but I try to eat half the portions I used to, and this has helped my energy a lot!!! I've cut out sweets, candy, cakes, cookies, pies, ice cream, cereals, milk, (everything I love! ). I've gone from 193lbs to 177. If you have low energy, you will know in 2 weeks if this diet change works! Do not try to go carb-free!!! It will ruin your metabolism like it did mine years ago!

Stopping all carbs is not healthy and shuts down your metabolism.. the key to a good figure is not starvation, it's eating 2000 calories, get your carbs in, your body needs them. Build muscle mass, 2 meals a day + snacks if you please ... your mood will improve with carbs

Yes, low or no carb will wreck your metabolism, thin your bones and down regulate your thyroid due to lack of glucose. It took me some years to figure it out. You will get better, safer results if you just eat clean, don't eat vegetable oils—canola and corn oils are the absolute worst and they plus others lower energy production at mitochondrial level. Fresh fruits. WHITE rice cooked veg and moderate fats and adequate protein. Just getting off grains and processed food made a huge difference. I should have stopped there but went keto and ruined my metabolism. 3 years later I'm still trying to heal it. Beware of keto and carnivore crap from the gurus. Also no IF or too much fasting. I wanted to provide an update on my trigger finger, various arthritic joints, and Ted's famous borax protocol. I started the protocol in early June and have kept up with it very consistently since then. Here are my notes:

1. It took 3 weeks to get improvement in my trigger thumb, but my finger joint stiffness improved within the first week or so. Things continue to improve slowly.

2. Even though the women's dose is 1/8th teaspoon borax in 1 liter of water, the men's dosage, 1/4 teaspoon, seems to be what I need.

3. For the first 3 months, I could NOT do 5 days on and 2 days off because my thumb would start to get sore and stiff again after 1 day off the protocol. However, I am now able, in my 4th month, to take a day off here and there.

4. I use distilled water and add trace minerals to it in addition to the 1/4 teaspoon of borax.

Hope this helps. If borax isn't helping you, consider upping the dosage.
And stick with it for a while. Don't give up on it too soon.
I think the over 50 crowd (myself included) probably needs high-dose boron, quite frankly.

If you don't mind me asking what trace minerals are you adding to your borax water?

Hi Tricia,

I slacked off on adding the trace mineral drops after a while, but here is the one I used: https://www.amazon.com/Trace-Minerals-Research-Concentrace-Mineral/dp/B005BP5UCM/

Thankfully, borax has continued to work incredibly well. I can still bend my thumbs without any issues. Two days ago, my previously bad thumb (the one that I couldn't bend over a year ago) was hit very hard during karate training and hurt like heck, but I went home and took a pinch of borax right away. Two days later, I can't tell it was hit. The soreness is completely gone. Amazing mineral!

Hi Deirdre,

Obviously the borax you use works. Would you be kind enough to post the link from where you bought the borax?

I believe that the source of borax matter and the people who report that it does not work for them have a low quality borax source.

Thank you

EC: Hi Antoine,

I use 20 Mule Team borax found in the laundry section of a local grocery store. Not available in the UK unless you import it from eBay.

I put about 2-3 oz boraxo in my daily bathwater. The skin is an organ too so it gets absorbed that way. No ill effects...once I ran out and went without Boraxo for about a week and the pain started to come back. As soon as I started using it again the pain and stiffness went away.

I had previously reported about a friend who was able to effectively mitigate her osteoarthritis by taking borax to the point of being pain free for many years. About 3 years ago, she developed anemia and her doctor was unable to determine the cause of the anemia at that time, so he told her to stop using borax in case that was the cause.

About 6 months after stopping borax, her osteoarthritis returned and quickly became much worse than ever before. She told me that if she could do it all over again, she would have never stopped taking borax, even if it were the cause of her anemia because she said she is so miserable now, she would rather have tried to deal with the anemia through natural means. It turned out that borax was not the cause of her anemia so she decided to resume using it to try and alleviate her severe osteoarthritis again. Unfortunately, borax is no longer working for that purpose for her.

She is mad at her doctor for having told her to stop taking borax, but that anger is pointless now. In the meantime I continue to have her try other remedies for her OA, but because of her advanced age (80's) and using mostly green drinks for her meals, she is unable to tolerate other remedies as they all seem to cause her severe indigestion, nausea diarrhea and vomiting, even the remedies that she had previously taken with no problems.

My take away from my friend's predicament is that if borax is working well to keep your arthritis in remission, think long and hard before you decide to stop it for any reason. This also adds further confirmation to the idea that borax does not work for everybody all of the time, as I have previously seen in other friends.

Chamomile is believed to benefit osteoporosis even after menopause.

It may be that she is being exposed to greater fluoride levels than before, and it will simply take time for the borax to clear out the new fluoride. Perhaps her dr gave her fluoride believing it would benefit her bones.

Psych meds may contain fluoride.

Hi Art,

I hate to say this, but I recently took a Rapid Gut Reset online course and those green juice drinks could be exacerbating the issue. I know we've been told how great they are, but if you do a bit of research they are loaded with lectins and oxalates, the oxalates are the really bad ones as they settle in the joints and can cause loads of pain. They make them to keep the bugs from eating them (smart yea?) and for the bugs it's like shards of glass, but for us our mouths and teeth are so big that we just gulp them down and the body deposits them in joints and muscles.

Edy,

Thank you for the interesting insight on green drinks! I will pass the information along to my friend, but she is a true believer in her green drinks so I know it is going to be an uphill battle to get her to listen to anything not in agreement with her green drinks.

Tell her to look up oxalates and anemia. It's the oxalates in the green drinks that hinder absorption of iron.

According to The Copper Revolution most people who are "anemic" are really deficient in copper and the copper/iron balance is upset. Copper supplements are easy to find. It is not toxic. My husband and I each take 4-6 mg per day.

Calcium, calcium, and more calcium. And calcium needs cofactors - magnesium and phosphorus. Everyone needs 90 essential nutrients every day. But we also need Omegas, collagen, and other things. Email me for more information.

The oxalates in those green drinks are the CAUSE of arthritis. The boron in borax helps dissolve the oxalate crystals in the tissues and joints. Boron is an important mineral for health.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

I have had congestion in one ear and sinus cavity off and on for a long while. Nothing has helped remove it. It has never been extreme or painful, more an annoyance.

I began taking Borax over a week ago primarily because of the bone and joint support it provides, but immediately noticed my lungs feeling clearer and in general, my body felt great and very responsive.

Then on day five, I noticed the congestion in my ear getting worse than it has ever been and woke the next day with it so bad, my teeth and gums on that side are extremely painful and I have a low grade fever. This has now gone one for about five days. My feeling is that it my be symptoms of the issue detoxing from my system and getting worse before better, but wanted to ask for any insight.

I've mixed two teaspoons of Borax into a liter of water and take two teaspoons of that distillation daily in water.

Thanks

Hi Elaine, borax may be what is causing it, BUT right now, trees and flowers are releasing a lot of pollen, and that could aggravate any existing sinus/ear/eye condition. If this is the case, an air filter inside will help. You can check the pollen count in your area at weather.com.

I would go with pollen first before borax as the cause... In my neighborhood, my car is covered in tree pollen every few hours!

I have had good luck with this homeopathic product for my problem left ear and sinus issues, "Clear Sinus & Ear, Homeopathic" Https://www.amazon.com/Clear-Sinus-Capsules-Homeopathic-Formula/dp/B07QQVLB73 I only use them until it clears up, not all the time. I also bought ear plugs, "Mack's Ultra Soft Foam Earplugs" and use one in the left ear on windy days. Getting wind, especially cold, in that ear causes it to get stuffy again. If it's bad enough I can have some dizziness but not pain. When that happens lying on my left side for a couple of hours seems to drain the ear and stop the dizziness. Doctor didn't have any remedy for it, so I'm self medicating.

Editor's Choice

I was diagnosed with arthritis in my back by a chiropractor. he said there was nothing that I could do about it. I investigated and found articles on Borax.... I started taking it every morning. it was scary at first, taking a cleaner.

on the fifth day, I got out of bed and wow! no pain! I've been taking it for 10 years, every day. no issues. Doctors and nurses are amazed when I tell them I take it daily. it works!

Hi Basia,

As you may know, large amounts of borax powder (aka 20 Mule Team) taken all at once are contraindicated. Are you referring to a boron supplement? The body needs only small amounts of borax in water sipped throughout the day, not a large amount all at once which may be toxic.

Read the recipes and feedback on EC's borax page. We now have almost 20 years of feedback from readers on borax, starting with Ted's borax dosage from 2004 of 1/4 teaspoon for men and 1/8 teaspoon for women in 1 liter of water sipped throughout the day, 5 days on, 2 days off.

Be careful, detoxing re-releases toxins into the blood to be filtered out and passed through kidneys, liver, bladder, etc. if you don't go slow and steady it can cause poisoning side effects especially since fluoride is a neurotoxin. You don't want all of it in your bloodstream at once.
