Borax: Unlocking the Health Benefits of a Natural Compound

L4-L5 Disc Bulge
Posted by Rick (Irvine California) on 10/09/2023
★★★★★

I have a 6 millimeter posterior bulge in the L4-L5 area of my back. I had great pain whenever I lifted something, usually towards the evening. Taking advil at night would help yet the thinning of my blood taking advil would leave blood spots on my arms whenever they were bumped or scratched.

I've been taking boron solution for 7 years now. One teaspoon of borax into a quart of distilled water. I've been taking one teaspoon of this solution every morning and every night with meals. Which now I just remove the jar from the refrigerator and take a sip. This gives me approximately 7 milligrams of boron every day. I now have no pain when lifting and I love working on my race car and I can lift transmissions and heavy parts with no pain arriving that evening. The only reason I see so much bad publicity about boron is that big pharmaceutical industry just can't make any money off it because it's a cheap mineral.

All I can say is it works for me and I'm living proof of it and have the mri's to prove it.

Loretta,

I've been taking borax for well over a decade and have stopped for months, several times with no problems. Now I take it regularly to get all of the benefits that borax may offer. I did however, see a friend who discontinued borax at her doctor's request for well over a year and when she started taking it again, it no longer worked for her osteoarthritis.

TxRN,

Here is an RCT study where they actually used Borax or Calcium Fructoborate (plant derived borax) as adjuvant treatment in RA patients to good effect :

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5289089/

Notice how they used a relatively low dose of Borax and a higher dose of calcium fructoborate (based on boron content).

Also, notice this comment (quote) :

' Because it is ethically unaccepted to use boron alone as a separate arm in such type of clinical trials, the principle of its adjuvant use with the biological agent etanercept was followed. '

This statement to me says they really did not want to see how Borax treats RA in a heads up comparison against Entanercept, but I am a little suspicious that way, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. In any case, it did improve beyond what etanercept alone could do for RA patients.

Borax Dosages
Posted by Art (California) on 11/23/2022 2148 posts

Robert,

There are no human studies to answer the question about ulcers and borax that you are asking. There are only animal studies and those studies show that borax can cause microscopic ulcers as discussed in this study :

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/342355859_EFFECTS_OF_LOW_DOSE_EXPOSURE_OF_BORAX_FOR_8_WEEKS_ON_GASTRIC_ULCER_FORMATION

Here is a relevant quote from the study :

' Conclusion: Both of low dose (150mg / kg BW) and high dose (300mg / kg BW) of borax exposure for 8 weeks cause microscopic gastric ulcer on rats. '

Of importance is human equivalency of the three doses they used in this study in the rats. The three dose were :

50 mg/kg

150 mg/kg

300 mg/kg

If you convert these to human equivalency approximations, they would look like this :

8.1 mg/kg

24.3 mg/kg

48.6 mg/kg

In the study, they said the last two doses, which are higher than the first dose, caused microscopic ulcers, but when you look at their data, the lowest dose also showed some issues. When you convert that lowest dose of 8.1 mg/kg to a human weighing 80 kg or roughly 176 pounds, the dose would be 648 mg per day and this puts the dose in between Ted's dose for women and his dose for men which are roughly 500 mg for women and 1000 mg for men.

Based on the above information, it sounds like you would be using a safer approach to first heal your ulcers before attempting Ted's borax regimen.

Regarding the ulcers, natural remedies aside, your doctor should be able to put you on an antibiotic regimen to cure them fairly in most cases.

Borax Soap Recipe

Mackenzie,

That post was over 3 years ago and you may not get a reply from that poster. A saturated solution of Borax would be one level full measuring tablespoon of borax dissolved in a cup of water, but that may be too strong for people with sensitive skin. It may be better to first see how you tolerate one tablespoon dissolved in a quart or liter of water. You probably already know this, but borax water does not have the slimy feel of liquid bath soaps. It basically feels very similar to plain water so it may take some getting used to.

If you tolerate that mix and want to make it stronger, you can try a tablespoon of borax dissolved in a pint or 500 ml of water. You can use a 1 quart spray bottle as a dispenser, but this can feel cold to some people when spraying the skin. What I have found useful are bottles around the size of 16 ounces or 500 ml that have a flip top that when open has a small hole for dispensing the borax water into your free hand or wash cloth and rubbing that on the skin. Some 16 0unce bottles of rubbing alcohol have a flip top lid with a small hole. You can also use an old bath soap bottle that has a pump, but these tend to dispense to much borax water in one pump and so you waste more.

A little trial and error and you will quickly figure out the best dispenser for you. Use it as a regular shower soap when you shower. Keep an eye out for any negative skin reactions because borax has a fairly high pH at just over 9 while human skin has a significantly lower pH in the 5 to 6 range. Good luck and please update us on how it works for you.

If you drink tap water you are kinda defeating the purpose. The borax will stay busy detoxing incoming fluoride and never get around to the accumulation in your body. You need to discontinue the use of fluoridated water for any drinking or cooking and use only nonfluoride tooth products. I'd say in your tea is fine but make the tea with distilled water or mineral water

Candida

Hi Daniel,

I have been reading about Borax/Boron for quite some hours now and been taking notes. I am replying to you because you only posted your message a few days ago, so sure you will be looking for any replies?

Please research Monolaurin and BHT. Monolaurin is lipid enveloped as is Covid19. It can inactivate enveloped viruses, bacteria, protozea, Candida Albicans, herpes, parasite guardia etc.etc. It is antimocrobial, anti-viral etc.etc. Seeing as you have Candida, this could well help you. It is relatively cheap and can be purchased from Ebay or Amazon. So you should be able to get it from Amazon.com It is supposed to be very good as it fights Covid 19 because it is lipid enveloped as is Covid 19. BHT is similar. I could write lots about it as I am a medical researcher and make notes on anything I believe could help anyone. I have not had a single vaccination, I refuse to have them, and have never caught Covid, yet my son Paul, his wife and his two teenage daughters all caught covid and all have had 3 vaccinations. In fact everyone know that has been vaccinated all came down with Covid, my friend lost her husband to it. Anyway, I know you have posted your query and problem under Borax? Will borax cure it? I haven't the slightest idea? But please do check out Monolaurin. I think I bought mine from a store called 5greens on ebay? Every single thing they sell is free from every additive going, and very clean. And prices very reasonable, I have purchased 3 different items from this store only because there are no additives. Monolaurin can be taken on a regular basis, no serious side effects, it s linked with coconut oil! Alternatively have you put into where it says at the top "search earth clinic?" Try putting in something like "Help Wanted For Candida Problems" and this should take you to people who have Candida. You can read what they have been using? Your problem sounds rather serious, so look for people who are similar to you, it could help you a lot. Don't be afraid to ask questions. This is a wonderful site, and there are many people ready to assist if they can or give advise.

Hope my reply was of some help to you. Best wishes Rosina from the United Kingdom x

MSM might be good against borax die-off reactions

Taking a serious risk, I took 1/4 teaspoon of borax with a glass of water. The next day, I got strong Herx reactions primarily including stomach and gut pain, nausea, and slight pains or pressures in various regions of my head.

I noticed that a teaspoon of MSM powder (which I've been using for a week now) with a glass of water and orange juice alleviated the reactions.

I think Janet's comments about the minerals is important. I did also wonder about the cold snap comment and wondered if you had considered the possibility of increases in mold and mildew that might have occurred in the home you live in. From my personal experience, I had been doing better on boron but about a month ago started drinking fermented kefir juices because I thought they were healthy, the boron didn't seem to be working so well. I have always had trouble with alcohol and know that it just does not agree with me. My son alerted me that with the fermentation I was actually making alcohol even though it is a small amount. Removing this from my diet I seem to be doing better again. It's possible that the alcohol was causing my body to use up the boron faster, essentially neutralising the benefits. Likewise, I wonder if you may have unknowingly been exposed to increases in mold in your home during the cold snap, the borax could be being depleted trying to deal with possible increases in mold. Boron appears to kill yeast but conversely, I would think yeasts and mold could deplete boron reserves. Just my thoughts as a possibility, don't know if applies in your situation.

Just thought I'd add a line or two to document the ongoing strangeness that is my borax experience. My teeth have noticeably whitened. I haven't read anything about teeth getting whiter so I'm a little confused. Has anybody else experienced this? Also, regarding the accelerated weight loss, has anybody else experienced anything similar? The only thing I'm doing is taking borax and also rubbing on a little magnesium oil daily.

As for the dilution instructions above, I thought I should let you know that it came from an article I found by a man named Walter Last. The article is titled "The Borax Conspiracy". There's some interesting information in this article, including instructions. FYI - The website I got it from made my browser throw up a warning. I printed it to a pdf and it seems to be ok, but you should exercise due caution.

Hi, Rebel from somewhere, US ---- you are quite right. And this is going to happen to a number of supplements. It is already happening.

I have ordered and received a large order of ESSIAC after I was told that one company had published some testimonies about its effectiveness and cures. They were pulled into court and told they cannot provide testimonies. Like "you cannot do this". They also lost their business.

Lugol's Iodine has been removed from the Canadian market and US companies cannot sell to Canada. Best thing to go online and let Tony Pantalleresco teach to make it yourself on YT.This is blatant disservice to the people of the entire country.

It is best to take the cue from there.

Borax was traditionally used in place of the current meat cures sold for sausages and the like. Russians I believe still pack caviar with it and the English (UK) insisted on having it used in place of salt for food preservation...circa 1910-1920ish until it was banned for use in meats. Why was it banned? Maybe it worked too well and kept people from getting sick since they were eating it constantly.

The 20 Mule team brand is what I use and I generally buy it at Wally world or Dollar General in the laundry aisle. There is another thing I think put out by Proctor and Gamble that is a washing soda...do not use that it is not the same thing!!!

My usual dosing now since I have done the detoxes and gotten past all that is a pinch in my coffee in the morning. That is about the same dosage for maintenance as is recommended in the 1 liter concentrate but even with a good scale (I have one) it is very difficult to measure such small amounts so I either pinch it or wet the tip of my finger and dip it in to the first joint and then dip my coffee or tea.

Boric Acid Vs Borax
Posted by Dori (Santa Ana, Ca, Usa) on 02/27/2013

For your reference, book titled 'Integrative Womens Health',

Best fastest easiest most informative book I ever read on Womens womens healthiness including vaginal was - Integrative Women's Health, 2010, by Victoria Maizes Executive Director & Associate Professor of Medici Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine, Tieraona Low Dog Director of the Fellowship Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. It still costs usd40 or so. But its online free too (probably like a post said at googlebooks.

I saw the Warnings about boric acid for vaginal issues, so I'm suggesting all the women read this and teach the book to their girls too. At page 192 it says:

''In a double blinded RCT of 108 women with yeast, the boric acid cure rate was 92% at 7 to 10 days post-treatment and 72% at 30 days and that was significantly more effective than nystatin (Van Slyke 1981).... Specific diabetic women have higher cure rate in 14 days than 1 dose fluconazole, but at 3 months cure rates are same... Usual dose boric acid is 600mg in gelcap inserted in vag daily for 2 weeks with maintenance dose 2/weekly to prevent recurrence. There is LITTLE SYSTEMIC ABSORPTION with vag administration, but large amounts of oral ingestion are shown TOXIC. Also, it is inexpensive. DO NOT use during pregnancy.... Pap smear doesn't necessarily indicate Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)... "

Do ALL your research very well. Some professionals are interested in money or are limited by their bosses (their hospital or insurance group limits, or pharma's that fund them).

Dr. Rex Newnham on Borax
Posted by James (Lakefield, Qc, Canada) on 01/07/2013
★★★★★

Dr. Rex Newnham who first investigated the relation between Boron and Arthritus was using 60 mg Borax per day in his studies.

The Royal australian Hospital in Melbourne was also using 60 mg Borax per day in their 1980's studies which showed a 70% success rate for a group of people aged 55-74. From Wikipedia:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boron
..."Elemental boron, boron oxide, boric acid, borates, and many organoboron compounds are non-toxic to humans and animals (approximately similar to table salt). The LD50 (dose at which there is 50% mortality) for animals is about 6 g per kg of body weight. Substances with LD50 above 2 g are considered non-toxic. The minimum lethal dose for humans has not been established. An intake of 4 g/day of boric acid was reported without incidents, but more than this is considered toxic for more than a few doses. Intakes of more than 0. 5 grams per day for 50 days cause minor digestive and other problems suggestive of toxicity. [120]Nielsen, Forrest H. (1997). Plant and Soil 193"

So I would suggest that it is not neccessary to use ten times what the above researchers were using. Instead, results should be seen using only 1/16 teaspoon and it will be considerably safer.

I had the worst problem with an itchy scalp for the longest time. I felt compelled to wash my hair at least every other day, sometimes daily because it would make me so crazy! Then, a couple of years ago here on EC, I read about borax for your scalp and decided to try it. Voila! It worked- no more itchy scalp. I would still wash my hair fairly frequently then, I learned of oiling your hair also here on EC. I researched that concept and then started doing that. I found that I no longer needed to wash my hair very often. Maybe every four days now. Somehow the oiling seemed to balance my scalp out and it no longer gets dry or oily or itchy. Lisa

A year ago I came to this site to find a remedy for ringworm. I had gone through an number of over the counter products, which seemed to spread the fungus instead of stopping it. It had developed because of taking prescription medication with fluoride base. Yes I was poisoning myself with a doctor's help.

I tried Apple Cider Vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and urine to no avail. By the time I found Borax at WalMart, the fungus had spread all over my hands and I had begun to worry that I would be spreading it everywhere on my body. Plus my hands were cracked and bleeding, blistering and peeling, and the itching was endless.

So I started on Ted's recommended dose of 1/8 tsp in a liter of water and drank it slowly over a few hours. This worked within the first few days so well that I didn't want to stop after a few days to take a break, but I did. Within a months time the ringworm had completely vanished and the only thing left was the tiny pits in my fingernails where the fungus had affected the growth of the new nail.

Once my nails were not pitted anymore I stopped taking the borax supplement.

Tried borax for almost 2 weeks

Hi, I tried borax starting with about 1/32 a teaspoon and working up to 1/4 teaspoon, and I had a negative reaction to it. I only used it for about 2 weeks total, but for the last 3 weeks, since I stopped using it, I have had kidney, testicle, and head aches. The pain in my testicles and my headaches mostly stopped about a week ago, but I am still having problems with kidney pain.

Incidentally the pain decreased when I introduced calcium/magnesium in a 2:1 formula, as I knew that magnesium was good for kidney health, but the other pains continued and I just had to stop in fear of might be happening. I still am having kidney pain - only light pain now - occasionally throughout the day, especially at night when trying to sleep. I REALLY wish I hadn't tried the borax (20 mule team).

I am still looking for an alternative to the borax! As now that I think about family members, I see 3 different conditions that are probably caused by fluoride. Thanks for the information though I wish I hadn't participated in the borax 'trial'.

I have tried everything - drastic diet changes, candida elimination, probiotics, apple cider vinegar, topical steroids, msm sulfur, betaine hydrochloride, pancreatic enzymes, vitamin C, oil of oregano, flax oil, etc etc etc. A year and a half ago, I also developed perioral dermatitis and ocular rosacea. I read about borax and I decided to give it a try, taking 1/8 a tablespoon of borax in a liter of water for 3 days straight. After the third day, things were definitely changing but not noticeably better. I then decided to try to use borax topically. I combined a 1/2 tablespoon of borax with some hydrogen peroxide mixed with 50% water and I put it on my face then rinsed it off after about 30 seconds. It worked! My face feels as smooth as it did when I was a child, and my ocular rosacea is gone too. I didn't even remember what it was like to have normal feeling skin on my face with no rough patches, flaking, or redness. And I can't believe my eyes are back to their normal shape! I am so relieved. I feel and look like myself again for the first time in years. It seems miraculous. I am so so so grateful. What an excellent site. I suppose my problem was demodex skin mites, and the borax/hydrogen peroxide combo has eliminated them. I hope my experience will help someone else. THANK YOU.

Hi Dee,

How much borax do you take per day?

Do you dissolve the powder in hot water first and then drink or place the powder on tongue and wash it down?

When do you take your borax doses during the day, I.e. first thing in the morning and before sleep or at noon?

When do you take your doses in relation to meals, I.e. 30- 60 min before a meal and or 2- 3 hours after a meal on empty stomach or right after a meal or during a meal (like sprinkling it on the food)?

And could you please post the link from where did you get your borax? Not all borax products are the same... I tried some without success... your borax source obviously is genuine and works.

Thank you

One investigator has reported the use of boron supplementation in approximately 30 cases to facilitate dissolution and/or passing of urinary stones with minimal pain. Boron was supplemented at 10 mg/day with and without additional antioxidants for 2 to 60 days. Boron was well tolerated without observed side effects.(Naghii 2014, Naghii 2013, Naghii 2012) In the absence of a control group, it is difficult to attribute these results to boron.

My kids also have it and they have no cavities, strong bones, no fungus, we all wash our hair with it and have a pinch to eat now and then with magnesium chloride and magnesium sulphate. Has fixed many problems. Listen to your body, learn to listen and use your own head.

Boron Drops - How to Make

I love your idea of Boron drops in a dropper.
Awesome.

I've been running the numbers different though.

If 1 ml = 20 Drops
That means there are 2000 drops in a 100ml bottle
So at 1 drop per dose that = 2000 DOSES

If
30mg Borax (0.03g) = 3mg Boron (0.003g)

That would mean you need 60grams Borax dissolved in 100 ml water to provide 2000 doses of 3mg Boron.

So to get around the problem is simple

Aim for 10 drops for each 3mg Boron dose.
2000 drops ÷ 10 = 200 doses of 3mg Boron

200 × 0.03(Borax in gram) = 6 grams Borax
Needs to be dissolved in 100ml water
Now that is very doable.

So if you want 3mg Boron a day.. just drop 10 drops in a glass of water.

That's a 200 day ( 3mg/day) supply
Or
100 day (6mg/day) supply

Yes a 5ml teaspoon takes 5ml/5gram water.
Keep in mind that
Water 1 cubic meter = 1000kg
Borax 1 cubic meter = 1730kg
(Thats 42.19 % more than water)
So if 5ml teaspoon takes 5grams water
A 5 ml teaspoon(not rounded) would take 7.10 grams of Borax

I won't stress the extra bit too much..as I've seen info that we could basically take one or two teaspoons a day without side effects.

But once again AWESOME IDEA for the dropper..would make life sooo much easier.

Magnesium, you gotta take magnesium with the borax. Glycinate is a good one I think. Much like how some will take a bath with borax and Epsom salt (magnesium) and along baking soda is good to add to the bath as well. A good general rule of thumb is that if stuff is feeling 'stiff' or 'backed up' or 'tight' or anything like that in any sense throughout the body, there's a good chance taking more magnesium will help 👍

Borax Interaction With Other Supplements

Hello Denise, The only thing recommended not to take with borax, is lugol's iodine. I see you're supplementing calcium, modern diets should have enough calcium without need to supplement, there is concern they contribute to stones, Spurs, and more problematic, is the hardening of arteries. You may research more, always recommend, and find vitamin k2, readily available in grass fed butter, a better way of ensuring the calcium you consume goes to bones and teeth, and not elsewhere.

Borax Interaction With Other Supplements

None of us need calcium supplements. Most of us have too much.

For those of us who are elderly, we are stiff and full of stones from excess calcium, the stones causing pain also, sharp pain when encountered by or resident in nerve cells.
Also avoid ANY soy products. Soy is a poison in and of itself. Then of course in the U.S. all of it is GMO'd. (Watch Tony Pantalleresco - Canadian herbalist, on youtube, as he rants on soy and why we should never consume it. He's the individual who turned me on to Borax and other vital lifesaving yet inexpensive products.)

Back to calcium: EMF radiation that we are surrounded with these days affects the voltage gated calcium channels of our cells dramatically, which causes calcium build up INSIDE the cells with no subsequent release. Major problems result.

For these excess or misplaced calcium problems, borax is so helpful.

Osteoarthritis

I take the 1/4 teaspoon of Borax in a quart of water per each day of the week with weekends off. I tried going down to the 1/8th teaspoon dosing, but that was not fully effective for me.

Glad to hear that the aloe was helpful for the LP! I hope you have great results with your TCM experiment!

Borax: Great to clear calcifying of the body.

Only been using Borax for a short time but have noticed a difference in our health all ready. Prior to using Borax were using Bicarb daily for alkaline and health benefits but Borax we feel is superior.

I always add freshly squeezed lemon juice to my borax water mixture for taste and just to be sure I don't neutralize my stomach acid.

Arthritis, Herpes

Taking activated charcoal for a few days will help with any gut symptoms from the borax protocol. Stomach should settle after that. I took 3 capsules at night two nights in a row and stomach pain disappeared.

Hi Jeanette,

Good to hear your experience with borax.

I have a friend who has severe RA and she tried borax at the 1/8th teaspoon dose and it caused severe itching so she tried going down to just a very small pinch of borax in a glass of water because it was helping her arthritis. Even at the small pinch dose, the itching was just intolerable for her.

Eventually I got her to try boron to see if it might also work, but without the itching. Well, she was able to take the boron which she started at 36 mg per day and it was starting to reverse her RA symptoms with no itching, but in the 2nd week or so, she started noticing that she was becoming very depressed which is way out of charachter for her. She decided to decrease her dose down to 12mg of boron per day, but the depression persisted so she went down to 6mg/day which was one capsule. All the while her RA was improving, but even at just one capsule per day, the depression became too much and she had to stop taking it altogether.

Eventually I will let her know about the calcium fructoborate which is derived from plants and she if she wants to give it a shot or not. This would be more like the boron you would get from food and perhaps she will be able to tolerate it. It's nowhere near as cheap as borax, but if it works for her RA the way that boron did and it doesn't cause depression, it will be well worth it.

Clearly borax can have effects on hormones, but it seems to be a very individual thing.

Boron based supplements are usually in the 3 to 6 mg range which is considerably more than you are taking. To get a lower dose you may have to take some type of multi supplement that will have other things in it beside boron.

You didn't say that you have arthritis......do you or are you just taking borax for the mental clarity aspect that you mentioned? I wish it did that for me!

Borax Dosages

When you look at boron vitamin supplements, the amount is almost always around 3 mg. so I would think 56-113 mg. is way too much. A friend of mine always said just a pinch a day; which would make a lot more sense. If 1/8 tsp in 1 liter = 56mg. then use 10 liters instead to get it down to 5.6 mg.

Jen,

My daughter got rid of candida by using Yst Management. I did not misspell it, that is how it is spelled.

Exactly. Walk around with your cell phone in your pocket all day...more radiation than sea salt! Internet blaring in your house, tv on, laptop on, phone near you, earths natural radiation on top of that, yeah a little or a lot of sea salt ain't gonna make no difference!

Lynn, the directions I've found elsewhere are after mixing up the bottle is that you're only supposed to take an 1/8 tsp of what you just mixed up. Don't drink the whole bottle in 1 day!! I think you're only supposed to take around 7mg a day.

The increasing the pain is caused by the "HERXHEIMER EFFECT" (it's a reaction to treatment in which the symptoms of disease gets worse at the start of therapy a paradox sign that the infection source of the disease is under attack.....It's getting worse before getting better.

Please keep me updated....

Good luck....

Lynn, have you tried an autoimmune gut healing protocol like GAPS (gut and psychology syndrome/gut and physiology syndrome) or AIP (auto-immune paleo protocol)? I had symptoms of lichen sclerosis for years (it started more like interstitial cystitis) until my daughter was diagnosed with multiple food allergies including foods that are eliminated in both of those diets. When I adjusted the food our family ate to accommodate her food allergies my symptoms went away! Now if I eat much wheat/gluten (like if we're visiting relatives and I have little control over what I eat) my symptoms tend to start coming back. It could also make a huge difference to get the guidance of a functional medicine doctor too. A lot of FM docs are chiropractors. You can find an FM doc on a search engine.
