Just trying to clarify if the borax I bought is ok to use. Im in Australia and the only one I could get is Harpers powdered Borax. It says on container 99% MIN BORAX so I was just wondering if thats ok? Theres all this stuff on the bottle like "do not swallow" "CAUTION" and information about contacting poison info centre if ingested, so it got me a bit worried, is it ok to use. Ive already got dermatitis on my face so I cant afford to make that worse or damage my immune system anymore. Advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

One teaspoon of granulated white sugar is equal to about 4.2 grams. Borax is probably similar enough to sugar to compare, so one teaspoon is 8 times the recommended 1/8 teaspoon. Plus, in this information nothing was said about the period of time over which the borax is taken. Always follow protocols as given. Do not think you are smarter with a better way. Think things through; avoid impetuosity; address all aspects of your life (sleep, love, exercise, diet, work, giving burdens and grudges to God... ).

My cat seems to enjoy taking a couple of licks out my drink... So it's really just a trace amount that she has - and she seems to like it. She won't drink bottled water, or tap water or water from the cooler. She'll only do Brita water if it's fresh.

Hi Peter... I would certainly not use the brand you have found because it is specifically a cosmetic form of borax -- for topical use only. In the specification, it says that it only contains 70% borax, also containing Sodium Oxide as well as small amounts of Chloride. I certainly would not ingest this form of borax.

If I could, I would simply use the 20 Mule Team Borax as recommended by Ted. Unfortunately they don't sell it in the Phillipines, but I have managed to buy chemical grade borax(sodium Tetraborate) in Thailand(99% pure) but you will probably have great difficulty purchasing chemical grade borax cheaply in the US. So the only option open to you will be to purchase chemical grade borax through the internet. This may be expensive.

I just bought a package of what said Borax in my local pint supply store. On the label it says 100% Natriumtetraborat 10 hydrate and not Sodium tetraborate or sodium borate decahydrate that you and this site suggests. I am worried that I bought the wrong kind of product even though it does say Borax on the box. There are also all kinds of warning labels on it like "keep away from children", "contact doctor if ingested" and "use protective gear when handling". I guess I should have checked this in the store but I just asked for Borax and got a boc of borax and bought it. Now I just want to know if this is the same product that you recommend or if I bought something else. The content looks like salty powdery crystals. Please advise, thank you.

Bill, since alot of Earthclinic readers are not comfortable using 20 Mule Team Borax because in the laundry section, can you review the two links below to see if they are Borax, this suppose to be USP grade.

Hi Lily, many thanks for getting back to me. That's pretty much what I thought -- I'll hold out until after breastfeeding and look for other safer remedies.

Hi Sussanah, I take borax about 4-5 days a week at about 1/4tspn in 1 litre of water then stop for a week. I would not recommend taking it while you are pregnant. It is just not worth the risk. Start taking it after you have finished breastfeeding.

Hi Ted, thanks for the info. I've been trying the HP Borax solution on some moderately bad rosacea for the last week or so. I've seen some improvement but I notice you say Borax should be taken internally to effectively kill the mites. I'm very hesitant because I'm three months' pregnant and I've received advice that it could cause miscarriage. I'm hoping you or anyone else might have some knowledge about this or might be able to recommend a safer alternative. Many thanks.

Can anyone tell me if this homeopathic borax I've been reading about that you can order on Amazon is any good? Does it work like the borax powder you buy in the grocery store? It seems very expensive so I just wanted to know the opinions of anyone who has tried it or knows a lot about it. Thanks, Mama

Used borax to treat family for lice. Mixed dishsoap with 1 tbsp of borax to make a shampoo. Used borax in hot water to wash bedding, stuffies. Use dryer. Put borax in spray bottle with hot water to spray carpets and pillows and furniture that couldn't be laundered. Vaccuum. Be careful doing this around crawling babies or small toddlers or pets.

Add a tbsp to dishwasher and cut amount of soap in half. Best clean ever. Clear glasses. Also seems to eliminate the crud that sticks to dishes. Can also use baking soda. Now I use 1/2 borax and 1/2 baking soda mix.

Boron Vs Borax

I believe Ted has answered this before on here. If I recall right, he moonlighted on a job where they made boron supplements. The boron supplements are made from borax (boron). The difference is that the supplements have added fillers and may not be absorbed by the body as well. Perhaps chewing the pill or crushing it will help it absorb better. Borax is cheaper than buying the supplements as well, but the choice has to be yours to make.

Many thanks to Mick for letting us know about the homeopathic version of borax. For some reason, I had a tough time finding the product based on Mick's two posts while searching on Google. I finally found it on Amazon.com (once I plugged in the right key words) and ordered a pack of 5 over the weekend. Just got them yesterday.

Here's the 5-pack I bought on Amazon. You can also buy single packs.

If you want to search Google Shopping, here's the link.

For those who, like me, find it impossible to read the tiny print on the container, it says: "5 pellets in the mouth three times a day until symptoms subside." As mentioned by Mick, this product is used for canker sores.

Boiron USA makes a homeopathic borax tablet which can be purchased at most healthfood stores (some of which didn't even know they had it). It comes in a tiny plastic tube and can only be marketed to cure canker sores per FDA. I have found it in a 30C and 6C version. I am currently taking the 30C version at three micro tablets per day for flouride poisoning and will post results as they happen. Stay healthy stay strong.

--------------------------------------------

08/05/2010 Update:

After 3 days on Borax microtablets for flouride poisoning I have a few things to report:

First and foremost was an amazing side effect that I didn't expect. I have experienced what I call "floaties" in my eyes, these are black hazy spots that move when I move my head, that I have had for years and are now gone. After day one my vision was a little blurry, but after day 2 no more blur and no more floaties. It wasn't till after day three that I was really shocked. As I was driving to work I passed a sign that I hadn't been able to read for years and I read the sign. I immediately called my wife and read to her all the license plates of the cars in front of me, which I haven't been able to do. Finally, I could make out the pine needles on the pine tree in my back yard, yet another pleasant surprise. I did experience some extra joint pain and it definitely fired up my kidneys but both subsided after day 2. I did experience the testicular pain and found this was probably due to the high levels of sodium in the area which flouride tends to bind to easily. Boiron recommends using product for only 3 days at a time and I am currently on a break. I definitely recommend this product to anyone who's flouride levels are high.

To "Mama".... You might also try acetyl l-carnitine, which you have to take hand in hand with alpha lipoic acid. It's what got me out of bed and I've lost 12 pounds in 2 months because of it. It helps your mitochondrial function. Additionally, d-Ribose for your muscles... They need repair and it's a simple form of sugar. Probably, you could also benefit from free form amino acids for the same reason. I'm battling this myself right now. As with everything, you must keep your activity in check and not overdo it when you feel good. I'm so guilty of this myself. You're not completely healed yet, so you might have flares. WE ARE ALL GOING TO BEAT THIS!! Just goes to show we don't need all the pharmaceuticals we're made to believe :)

Hello all,

Just here to update my usage of Borax as my source of Boron. It's the 14th of July 2010 and I've been ingesting roughly 1/4 tsp of Borax daily for over a year. It has continued to be a great help with my skin mites and now I am using it in a P&B shake to help clear the fungal overgrowth in my intestines from my Candidias. We all have choices to make about what we use for our health and how we use it. My health is ultimately my responsibility, as such I choose to educate myself. Scott

boraxo is much stronger than plain borax!!!

if you can get some plain borax - they have it in the laundry aisle - it is usually called 20 mule team... it will work much better and won't dry out your hair or scalp and you won't need conditioner.

you need borax and citric acid. citric acid is a chelator and will take the borax completely out of your hair as well as restore the proper pH to your hair and scalp and prevent mineral build up. you can also use vinegar - 1 tablespoon to a pint of water but it doesn't work as well... but until you can get citric acid vinegar is fine.

take some plain powdered borax and pour about an inch or 2 in the bottom of a bottle. add water and shake and let it sit until the water turns clear. it will only melt as much of the borax until it gets to a 'saturated' solution - so having some white stuff in the bottom is normal.

pour the clear liquid into a squirt bottle with a nozzle like a ketchup or mustard bottle or even better a hair dye bottle and use about 2 tablespoons. i usually just put one ounce (2 tablespoons into the bottle at a time).

when you are ready to wash your hair get a pint container and add 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid powder to a pint of water and shake or stir it good.

ok then wet your hair and squirt the borax solution onto your scalp only. after this kind of work it around your scalp and then sort of squeeze it down the rest of your hair. you don't have to worry much about the length because just the amount that is on your scalp will clean the length unless your hair is very long.

it may not seem like it is doing anything but it is!!!

then rinse, rinse, rinse and scrub your scalp with your fingertips (not nails) and when finished rinsing well, pour your citric acid solution over your scalp and let it run down your hair. make sure you saturate your hair and scalp with it.

then rinse, rinse, rinse.

this will work MUCH better!!! as well as leave your hair very shiny, smooth and full of body. no conditioner is needed with this method! i have almost waist length hair that was very dry and crunchy before i started using this method. now i can't believe how nice my hair is!!!

good luck :)

So far so good. I noticed that if I stop using it the bumps come back. I feel it is something that must be used for several weeks. Also, I must use another shampoo on occassion as my hair seems to get a build up. Also use a good conditioner.

Hi, Ted

Tonight I was in the super market and found Boraxo powdered hand soap. It says on the back. Boraxo Powdered Hand Soap is a unique blend of borax and powdered soap. The borax holds the lossened soil in suspension until it is rinsed away. This is a 20 Mule Team product. There is a number to call on the label if anyone would like to know if they can find it in there area or maybe able to order it. 1-800-457-8739. I bought a 12 oz canister for $1.77. I beleive I will start using on my scalp as I have bumps there. I will let you know how it works.

Hi Ted, You sound like a knowledgeable fellow so perhaps I am wrong and you are right, however I took some time to find out that baking soda is what we in the UK call Bicarbonate of soda AND Borax is also what we call Bicarbonate of Soda. Baking powder is what we call Cream of Tarter. So as you can imagine your article on treating Rosacea with Borax and Baking Powder is somewhat confusing. Below is one of the articles I tracked down to clarify the terms:

What is Baking Powder and Baking Soda?

Baking Soda is pure Sodium Bicarbonate, also called Bicarbonate of Soda (NaHCO3). It is a white crystalline alkali which reacts by effervescing (fizzing) when it comes into contact with acids, thus producing gasses, namely carbon dioxide. Because of this chemical reaction, it is often used in fizzy drinks and antacid remedies and it's precisely this reaction which facilitates the rising action in baked goods.

Baking Powder is more complex. It is composite of Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda), one or more acid salts such as Cream of Tartar (Tartaric Acid), Sodium Aluminium Sulphate, Calcium Acid Phosphate plus a drying agent such as cornflour and the exact mix determines whether it is "Single" or "Double" acting. The difference between baking soda, single and double acting baking powders, is when the chemical reactions actually take place, and is explained below. However, the rising principal is the same in that a chemical reaction produces carbon dioxide bubbles which expand through the cooking mixture.

TAKEN FROM: www.recipes4us.co.uk/Specials and Holidays/Baking Powder and Soda Origin Uses Recipes.htm

EC: Peter, according to posts from contributors in the UK and Ireland, Borax is NOT called bicarbonate of soda in the UK, it's called Borax. However, it's been banned from shops and can only be bought online.

Lichen Planus
Posted by Ted (Bangkok, Thailand) on 05/20/2010 391 posts

Borax helps drying, however, to stop the itch, a tannic acid solution may be needed. A weak one for topical application is 1/2 teaspoon of tannic acid per 1/2 cup of water. It is then applied and the itching should stop within about 2 minutes. To remove the drying after the itch goes away, a couple of more applications maybe needed, then apply moisturizing oil. The oil I use is grape oil mixed with some aloe vera oil, or any appropriate moisturizing skin care oil might be helpful.

The only problem is in some countries, such as Canada, tannic acid is not obtainable. An appropriate substitute such as tea tree oil, lavender oil and some sunflower oil in equal amounts might help. If tannic acid is taken internally a very low dose such as 1/4 per liter of drinking water is free of side effect and further help the SLE conditions also by denaturing them and prevent their spread. I am now currently using borax/tannic acid/ and H2O2 for similar symptoms, and baking soda as in 1/2 teaspoon twice a day in a cup of water will further reduce the symptoms.

borax/dermodex mites

Hello, im new to all this but im so glad i found this site. I found it through searchs at curezone.com i knew i was dealin with nanoinsects and iv been using the exact measurements of borax and alittle Hydrogen Peroxide with a liter of water that Ted says to do. Iv been on it for about 5 days now and many many of the dermodex mites came to the surface of my skin. Its really gross, its all over my arms, shoulders and back. All over my stomach and legs. I dont know how i got it but i know i had it for many years since iv suffered from eczema all my life, im 27 yrs old now.

I really hope this stuff works quickly because as of right now i dont even want to go to the store. I got long sleeves but its really bad. I took a few baths with borax and i know its working. I always wanted to get to the source of the problem and attack it but i never found out how till now. No matter how long it takes i hope to be cleansed of all these nasty bugs. I also wanted to write and thank you for leading people to the truth and what most doctors wont tell us. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.

sincerly,

Borax in Japanese is called hosha. (Many Japanese don't know how to read the character for this, but it's HO-U in katakana and sha is the kanji for sand (suna). The cost at Amazon is 924 yen for 500 grams.

Or...you can go to http://www.tougeishop.com/item/tougei_genryou/t0804/t0804034.htm and order 1 kg for 609 yen. It seems to be the same thing, and you can use it for washing clothes, washing your hair, etc. But for consumption, probably the type from Amazon would be better. Good luck!

EC: Sorry, our database doesn't currently accept Japanese characters! Will see if we can in the future.
