Apple Cider Vinegar for arthritis.

Arthritis affects over 350 million people worldwide, and Earth Clinic has been one of the internet's most active communities for natural arthritis remedies for more than 25 years. Readers have shared thousands of firsthand reports covering osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, trigger finger, bone spurs, and related joint conditions — with detailed accounts of what worked, what didn't, how long it took, and what they combined it with.

This page covers the natural arthritis remedies most discussed by Earth Clinic readers, including borax and boron, apple cider vinegar, turmeric, baking soda, blackstrap molasses, dietary changes, and key supplements. Each section includes community context — not just what the remedy is, but what readers actually report when using it for arthritis.

Important: Natural remedies are not proven treatments for arthritis. The information on this page is based on Earth Clinic reader experiences and general research, provided for educational purposes only. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before making changes to your health regimen, especially if you are on medication.

What Earth Clinic Readers Report About Natural Arthritis Remedies

After 25 years of community submissions, several consistent patterns emerge from Earth Clinic's arthritis discussions. These are not clinical findings — they are observations drawn from thousands of individual reader reports.

No single remedy works for everyone

The most important pattern in Earth Clinic arthritis posts is variability. What produces dramatic improvement for one reader produces nothing for another — even with the same remedy, same dose, and similar condition. Readers who approach natural arthritis remedies with this expectation tend to be more methodical: they try one thing at a time, give it adequate time, and adjust based on results rather than giving up after one attempt.

Mineral balance matters as much as any single remedy

A recurring theme across the most positive long-term reader reports is that arthritis rarely responds to a single remedy in isolation. Readers who report the strongest and most sustained results almost always describe attending to multiple factors simultaneously: mineral balance (boron, magnesium, calcium), inflammation (diet, omega-3s, turmeric), and sometimes gut health. The readers who try one remedy without addressing underlying mineral deficiencies or inflammatory diet patterns tend to report weaker results.

Morning stiffness is often the first thing to improve

Across many different remedies — borax, apple cider vinegar, blackstrap molasses, turmeric — the first improvement readers most commonly notice is reduced morning stiffness. This appears to be an earlier and more consistent indicator than pain reduction, and many readers cite it as the sign that a remedy is working before more significant mobility improvements follow.

Response time is longer than most readers expect

Many readers arrive at Earth Clinic hoping for quick relief. The community's experience suggests that while some remedies (particularly borax and apple cider vinegar) can produce noticeable changes within days for some readers, meaningful and sustained improvement in arthritis more typically unfolds over weeks to months. Reader posts frequently note that patience and consistency matter as much as the remedy itself.

Readers who succeed tend to combine remedies thoughtfully

Earth Clinic's most compelling arthritis success stories almost never involve a single remedy. They typically describe a protocol — borax or boron plus magnesium, or apple cider vinegar plus dietary changes plus omega-3s, or turmeric plus black pepper plus vitamin D. The community's accumulated wisdom consistently points toward addressing multiple pathways rather than searching for a single magic remedy.

1. Borax and Boron

Borax is Earth Clinic's single most discussed natural remedy for arthritis, joint stiffness, trigger finger, bone spurs, heel spurs, and calcification concerns. It has been discussed continuously on the site for over 20 years, introduced primarily through Ted from Bangkok's borax protocol and further popularized by Walter Last's research.

Borax supplies boron, a trace mineral involved in calcium and magnesium balance, vitamin D activity, inflammatory signaling, and connective tissue integrity. Earth Clinic readers often describe arthritis as involving more than wear and tear — connecting it to mineral imbalance, abnormal calcium deposition, and fluoride accumulation in joints.

Reader reports on borax for arthritis cover osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, trigger finger, and bone spurs. Common reported improvements include reduced morning stiffness, better grip strength, improved mobility, and reduced joint cracking. Long-term users — some reporting 10 to 15 years of continuous use — describe sustained remission of symptoms that return when borax is discontinued.

Ted's Traditional Borax Protocol for Arthritis

  • Women or smaller adults: 1/8 teaspoon borax in 1 liter of water, sipped throughout the day
  • Men or larger adults: 1/4 teaspoon borax in 1 liter of water, sipped throughout the day
  • Schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off
  • Key rule: Always fully diluted in water — never dry borax powder directly

Boron supplements (boron citrate, boron glycinate, calcium fructoborate) are an alternative for readers who prefer supplement-grade dosing. Most capsules provide 3–10 mg of elemental boron, compared to the approximately 55 mg delivered by Ted's women's borax dose.

Deep Dive: For the full borax arthritis protocol, reader experiences, troubleshooting, and safety information, see our dedicated page: Borax for Arthritis: Protocols, Dosage, and What Earth Clinic Readers Report

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is one of Earth Clinic's most discussed remedies across all conditions, and arthritis is no exception. Readers use it both internally and topically for joint pain, stiffness, and inflammation.

The community theory behind ACV for arthritis centers on pH and mineral balance. Readers often describe arthritis as an acidic condition and use ACV to support a more alkaline internal environment, despite the apparent paradox of an acidic substance producing an alkaline effect. ACV is also discussed for its potassium, magnesium, and enzyme content.

Common internal protocols discussed by readers include 1–2 teaspoons of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a glass of water, taken 1–3 times daily, often before meals. Some readers add baking soda to reduce the acidic taste and enhance the alkalizing effect. Topical use — soaking a cloth in diluted ACV and applying it to stiff joints — is also frequently reported.

Reader results with ACV for arthritis vary more than with borax. Some report significant and rapid improvement; others notice modest effects or none. It is most commonly reported as helpful for general joint discomfort, morning stiffness, and gout.

3. Turmeric and Curcumin

Turmeric is one of the most research-supported natural anti-inflammatory remedies, and it appears consistently in Earth Clinic arthritis discussions. Its active compound, curcumin, has been studied extensively for joint health and inflammatory conditions.

Earth Clinic readers discuss turmeric in several forms: capsule supplements, golden milk (warm turmeric with milk or plant milk and spices), and turmeric mixed with black pepper and fat to enhance absorption. Black pepper (piperine) is consistently mentioned by experienced readers as essential for bioavailability — curcumin absorption increases dramatically in its presence.

Reader reports on turmeric for arthritis tend to describe gradual, cumulative improvement rather than rapid relief. It is most commonly reported as helpful for inflammatory arthritis types, general joint discomfort, and as a supportive addition to other protocols rather than a standalone remedy.

4. Baking Soda

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is discussed on Earth Clinic primarily for gout — a painful form of arthritis caused by uric acid crystal deposits in joints — and for general pH support in arthritis protocols.

For gout, readers often describe taking 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in water to neutralize excess acidity and reduce uric acid levels. This is sometimes combined with apple cider vinegar or lemon juice as part of an alkalizing protocol.

Baking soda is less frequently discussed as a primary remedy for osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, but it appears as a component of broader alkalizing approaches. Readers with high blood pressure or sodium restrictions should be cautious about regular internal baking soda use.

5. Blackstrap Molasses

Blackstrap molasses is a nutrient-dense byproduct of sugar refining, rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, selenium, and B vitamins. Earth Clinic readers have discussed it for arthritis for many years, viewing it primarily as a mineral-dense food supplement rather than a specific anti-inflammatory agent.

The community theory is straightforward: many people with arthritis are deficient in key minerals, and blackstrap molasses provides a concentrated, bioavailable source of several of them at once. Readers typically take 1 tablespoon daily, mixed in warm water, tea, or milk.

Reader results with blackstrap molasses tend to be gradual and are often described as part of a broader protocol rather than a standalone remedy. It is most commonly discussed in combination with ACV, borax, or dietary changes.

6. Magnesium

Magnesium deserves its own section in any Earth Clinic arthritis discussion because it appears so consistently across remedy reports — not just as a standalone remedy but as the co-factor that makes other remedies work better.

Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions, including those governing calcium balance, muscle function, and inflammatory response. Earth Clinic readers frequently note that their results with borax, ACV, or other remedies improved significantly after adding magnesium — and several describe magnesium deficiency symptoms (muscle cramps, poor sleep, stiffness) resolving alongside arthritis improvement.

Common forms discussed by readers include magnesium glycinate (well-tolerated, good absorption), magnesium malate (often mentioned for muscle pain), and magnesium chloride (topical oil or flakes for direct joint application). Magnesium oxide is frequently described as poorly absorbed and not recommended by experienced contributors.

7. Other Supplements Earth Clinic Readers Discuss

Beyond the primary remedies above, Earth Clinic arthritis discussions frequently include the following supplements:

  • Vitamin D3: Consistently mentioned alongside borax and magnesium for bone and joint health. Many readers with arthritis report low vitamin D levels, and supplementation is often part of successful protocols.
  • Vitamin K2: Discussed for directing calcium into bones rather than soft tissues and joints. Frequently combined with D3 and magnesium.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids: Fish oil and flaxseed oil are discussed for their anti-inflammatory effects and joint comfort. Particularly common in rheumatoid arthritis discussions.
  • MSM (methylsulfonylmethane): A sulfur compound discussed for joint flexibility, cartilage support, and inflammation. Several readers report combining MSM with borax for strong results.
  • Collagen and bone broth: Discussed for cartilage support and joint repair. Slow-cooked bone broth or collagen peptide supplements are mentioned most often.
  • Vitamin C (sodium ascorbate): Discussed for collagen synthesis and joint tissue support. Sodium ascorbate is preferred over ascorbic acid by many readers for its gentler effect on the stomach.
  • Serrapeptase: A proteolytic enzyme discussed for inflammation and calcification concerns, sometimes combined with nattokinase or borax.
  • DMSO: Discussed for topical application to arthritic joints, particularly for deep penetration of anti-inflammatory agents.

8. Dietary Changes

Diet is a recurring theme in Earth Clinic arthritis discussions, and the community's accumulated experience points strongly toward the importance of dietary change as a foundation — not just an add-on — for natural arthritis management.

The dietary patterns most consistently associated with arthritis improvement in reader posts share common features: elimination or significant reduction of sugar and refined carbohydrates, reduction of processed and fried foods, increased vegetables, and often some form of anti-inflammatory emphasis.

Some readers describe their arthritis improving significantly from dietary changes alone. More commonly, dietary changes are described as amplifying the effects of other remedies — or as the missing piece that made remedies start working after previous attempts had failed.

Nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes) are mentioned by a subset of readers as arthritis triggers, though this is not universal and is disputed by others in the community. Readers who suspect nightshade sensitivity describe elimination trials to assess their individual response.

Best Foods for Arthritis

Earth Clinic readers most commonly discuss the following foods in the context of arthritis improvement:

  • Fatty fish (salmon, sardines, mackerel): Rich in omega-3 fatty acids with anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Leafy greens (spinach, kale, collard greens): High in antioxidants, magnesium, and vitamin K.
  • Cherries and tart cherry juice: Frequently discussed for gout specifically; also mentioned for general joint inflammation.
  • Ginger: Anti-inflammatory properties; discussed both as a food and supplement.
  • Garlic and onions: Sulfur compounds discussed for joint support and inflammation.
  • Bone broth: Collagen, amino acids, and minerals for joint repair.
  • Walnuts and almonds: Healthy fats and anti-inflammatory compounds.
  • Avocado: Anti-inflammatory fats and boron content.
  • Prunes and raisins: Among the highest boron-containing foods; frequently mentioned in borax-related discussions.

Foods to Avoid

Reader reports consistently identify the following as aggravating arthritis symptoms:

  • Sugar and high-fructose corn syrup: The most consistently mentioned dietary trigger across all arthritis types.
  • Refined carbohydrates: White bread, pasta, and processed grains.
  • Fried and processed foods: Trans fats and inflammatory compounds.
  • Soda and sweetened beverages: Both for sugar content and phosphoric acid concerns.
  • Alcohol: Particularly flagged for gout; also mentioned for general inflammation.
  • Dairy (for some readers): Not universal, but a subset of readers identifies dairy as an arthritis trigger.
  • Nightshades (for some readers): Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and potatoes. Individual response varies significantly.

Remedy Combinations Earth Clinic Readers Use

The most effective protocols reported by Earth Clinic readers rarely involve a single remedy. Here are the combinations that appear most frequently in successful long-term arthritis reports:

Most Common Successful Combinations

  • Borax + Magnesium + Vitamin D3 — the most frequently cited combination for osteoarthritis and joint stiffness
  • Borax + Magnesium + Vitamin K2 + D3 — extended mineral protocol, particularly for calcification concerns
  • Apple Cider Vinegar + Baking Soda + Dietary Changes — common alkalizing approach, particularly for gout
  • Turmeric + Black Pepper + Omega-3s — anti-inflammatory focus, often used alongside borax or ACV
  • MSM + Borax + Magnesium — reported by several readers for strong joint flexibility results
  • Blackstrap Molasses + ACV + Dietary Changes — mineral and pH approach common in older Earth Clinic reader posts

Arthritis Types Discussed on Earth Clinic

Earth Clinic readers discuss natural remedies across many arthritis types. The most common include:

  • Osteoarthritis — by far the most frequently discussed; borax, magnesium, and dietary changes are most commonly reported
  • Rheumatoid arthritis — borax, omega-3s, dietary changes, and anti-inflammatory protocols are most common
  • Gout — baking soda, ACV, tart cherry, dietary changes, and hydration are most discussed
  • Psoriatic arthritis — borax and anti-inflammatory diet appear most frequently
  • Trigger finger — borax is the dominant remedy discussed, with Earth Clinic founder Deirdre Layne having shared her own experience
  • Ankylosing spondylitis — borax discussions appear, alongside dietary approaches
  • Bone spurs and heel spurs — borax and magnesium are most frequently mentioned

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most discussed natural remedy for arthritis on Earth Clinic?

Borax is Earth Clinic's most discussed natural remedy for arthritis by a significant margin, followed by apple cider vinegar, turmeric, blackstrap molasses, and magnesium. Borax has been discussed continuously on Earth Clinic for over 20 years.

How long does it take for natural arthritis remedies to work?

It depends on the remedy and the individual. Some readers report reduced morning stiffness within days of starting borax or ACV. More significant improvements in mobility and pain typically unfold over weeks to months. Reader posts consistently emphasize patience and consistency.

Can natural remedies replace arthritis medication?

Earth Clinic does not recommend replacing prescribed medications with natural remedies without medical guidance. Many readers use natural remedies alongside conventional treatment. Anyone considering changes to their medication regimen should consult their healthcare provider.

What type of arthritis responds best to natural remedies?

Reader reports suggest osteoarthritis and gout generate the most consistent positive reports with natural remedies. Rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis appear in the community too, but results are more variable. Trigger finger, bone spurs, and calcification concerns have a particularly strong body of borax-specific reader reports.

Is borax safe for arthritis?

Borax is not an approved supplement and requires careful preparation and dilution. It should not be taken dry, should not be used by pregnant women or children, and requires caution in people with kidney disease or on medications. For full safety information, see the dedicated borax for arthritis page.

What is the best diet for arthritis according to Earth Clinic readers?

The most consistent dietary pattern across successful Earth Clinic arthritis reports involves eliminating or significantly reducing sugar and refined carbohydrates, increasing vegetables and anti-inflammatory foods, and ensuring adequate mineral intake. Many readers also identify personal triggers — dairy, nightshades, alcohol — through elimination.

Should I try one remedy at a time or combine them?

Experienced Earth Clinic contributors generally recommend starting with one primary remedy to assess your response before adding others. That said, the most positive long-term reports almost always describe a multi-remedy approach. A practical approach is to start with one remedy, confirm tolerance and initial response, then layer in supportive co-factors like magnesium and vitamin D.

Takeaway

Earth Clinic's 25 years of arthritis discussions point toward a consistent set of principles: address mineral balance first (boron, magnesium, vitamin D), reduce dietary inflammation, give remedies adequate time, and combine thoughtfully rather than searching for a single cure. Borax remains the community's most discussed remedy, but the most compelling long-term success reports almost always describe a broader protocol.

Hi Ted!

I would just like to say how wonderful the site is.

About a year ago I started to search for natural cures for arthritis because my hips were giving me terrible pain and some pain in my knuckles as well. I am a male of 60 years with Muscular Dystrophy.

I started taking 2 tbs apple cider vinegar with 1/2 tsp of backing soda twice a day for 5 days on and 2 days off. I can say that today I am almost pain free. I have found that the Omega 369 has taken care of my suicidal depression, but one a day is all I can afford because our Government will not help me.

Your simple affordable remedy has saved my life because I can live more comfortably now. There was a story of a man of 53 found dead in his truck on day from carbon monoxide poisoning and I had been contemplating this method before I found Earth Clinic. Maybe if he had of known he would still be alive. No cuddo's for our gov.

God Bless you Ted.

Thank you so much for your help.

Are people taking this apple cider/baking soda aware that it can affect potassium levels? Which can be dangerous...

I checked several website, and the amount of ACV recommended for daily use is one to two tablespoons diluted in water or juice. This is considered safe, but, your right, larger amounts do reduce potassium levels in the body...and, the recommended daily amount of potassium for women is 2600 mg.! Actually, that's down from what it was not that long ago, 3 thousand and something, and for men it was 4700! Now, it's 3400 according to the National Institutes of Health. Still, we need to eat potassium rich foods.

Hi everyone at earthclinic! I am a 60 year male. I found your site after a search for arthritis and natural cures. I started taking the ACV and BS two months ago. It has significantly reduced the pain and swelling between my knuckles. My hips and knee pain are getting better and the food taste better as well. My energy has increased and I am not napping as much. I don't feel as cold anymore and no more shivers in bed. It has also helped my wife with her knees. I can't thank you enough for your wonderful natural cure. I almost got sold on the Swedish joint pain formula but I found your site and I am now saving my much needed money. Now I am going to start using the H202 inhalation method and I will let you know how that turns out. You are on my 649 list and you can hold me to that.

Acv and baking soda and chicken cartilage for arthritis

Hi, I suffer from chronic arthritis in my knees, elbows, wrists lower back and all my other joints. I have been using Apple Cider Vinegar and baking soda for 3 weeks and chicken cartilage in orange juice for 12days with absolutely no change in my condition. I am extremely disillusioned as I suffer excruciating pains in my knees, elbows and back. Where are all the people who spoke about these miracle treatments? The pains did not even recede. Are these scams or what. I was on methotrexate for4 weeks, took myself off as it made me Ill. Then I was rushed to hospital for a blood transfusion as it stripped all my blood. I was put onto cortisone which removed a lot of my pain but after weaning myself off after 7weeks the pains were back in full force. I am passionate about alternative medicine and was determined to try something natural. Hence, the rest is history. I was excited about this sight weeks ago but am lying here in extreme pain and have my doubts now!

Hi there, I'm sitting here reading your post with my feet soaking in hot water and Epsom Salts! I do this for 30 mins every morning and it helps loosen up my arthritis feet (I have rheumatoid arthritis). I have been trying ACV and honey twice a day now for a couple of weeks and no relief. I did try large doses of fish oil and glucosamine last year and the pain disappeared for nearly 2 months - heaven! Alas it came back and has never worked since.

I am now experimenting with Borax.. I'm in my 2nd week of 5 days on, 3 days off. I wet my fingertip and dip it into the Borax then swirl it around in my hot toddy of ACV and honey every evening. No luck yet.. Hence the Epsom Salts! Good luck.. and keep going! The answer's out there somewhere, I'm sure.

Jennywren, my Dad suddenly came down w/ RA and was really debilitated. I suggested a good broad spectrum joint formula that contained: Glucosamine, Chondroitin, Vit-C, MSM, and Manganese. Also daily Flax Oil. Results were very slow and it wasn't until about 1 yr latter that some degree of regained normal function occurred.

Hi Shiela (from Cape Town), The few folk I have known who had success with chicken cartilage also took colloidal minerals, at the amount of 30mls (1 oz) per 100 lb of body weight. It also took nearly 6 weeks to see good results. They were doing Dr Joel Wallach's recommendations, which was for 3 months at this amount. So I would not expect to see results for a few more weeks for most folk (sorry about that). All the best in finding the things that will work for you.

The soils of western Australia are short on all the essential minerals.. It might not be just Boron.. It could be any number of essentials that you need. It might be a good idea to get some kelp tablets as well, it will be three months on these to make a difference. Don't overdo it.. I was taking a well advertised vitamin and mineral supplement.. And I'm sure that since its made from petro chemicals, it's usless and caused cracking and small ulcers at the corners of my mouth, which have just healed up after discontinuing after four weeks. Naturals are best.

I found Bill's' post in the fibro section, but it has helped my arthritis a GREAT deal. I hurt less, I am more flexible, and my complexion has improved:

https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/treatment-for-fibromyalgia-pain-symptoms.html#acvmagnesium

Posted by Bill (San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines) on 12/21/2010

"Here is some research which confirms the positive effects of using malate (ACV) and magnesium to help cure Fibromyalgia (FM) and is yet more confirmation as to how alkalizing with ACV and baking soda (forming malates) plus taking Magnesium (as Mag Chloride or Mag Citrate or Mag Gluconate) can help FM.

Here are the summary and abstract conclusions from the research:

"Primary fibromyalgia (FM) is a common clinical condition affecting mainly middle-aged women. Of the etiologies previously proposed, chronic hypoxia seems the one best supported by recent biochemical and histological findings. We postulate that FM symptoms are predominantly caused by enhanced gluconeogenesis with breakdown of muscle proteins, resulting from a deficiency of oxygen and other substances needed for ATP synthesis. We present data supporting a critical role for magnesium and malate in ATP production under aerobic and hypoxic conditions; and indirect evidence for magnesium and malate deficiency in FM. After treating 15 FM patients for an average of 8 weeks with an oral dosage form with dosages of 1200-2400 mg of malate and 300-600 mg of magnesium, the tender point index (TPI) scores (x±) were 19-6±2-1 prior to treatment and 8±1.1 and 6-5±074. Respectively, after an average of 4 and 8 weeks on the magnesium malate combination (p < 0.001). Subjective improvement of myalgia occurred within 48 h of supplementation. In six FM patients, following 8 weeks of treatment, the mean TPI was 6.8 ±0.75. After 2 weeks on placebo tablets, the TPI values increased to a mean ± SE of 21.5 ±1-4(p < 0.001). Again, subjective worsening of muscle pain occurs within 48 h of placebo administration. A double-blind placebo control trial is currently underway."

Source:http://informahealthcare.com/doi/abs/10.3109/13590849208997961

So, just taking two tablespoons of ACV with 1/2 tsp sodium bicarbonate in half a glass of water three times a day with split doses of between 300-600 mg magnesium per day is actually very beneficial against Fibromyalgia."

---------

This took about a week for it to really help me. The addition of BS to the ACV greatly improved the taste/flavor of ACV (for me) and now I enjoy drinking ACV. I take whatever magnesium I have in the house. My bowels are a bit loose, but I often to not 'clear' out and this negative is a positive for me. I AM SO HAPPY.

I have arthritic psoriasis for four years. The usual drugs that I had been taking did not help and I found from this website about taking ACV .

After a month of taking 3 tablespoons a day, I was able to do 25 squats at a time.

After 3 months, I was able to run a mile but at a slow pace.

After about three years, I also started taking three tablespoons of blackstrap molasses I could run down a flight of stairs without holding the rails.I will continue to take these to what further gains I will make in overcoming psoriasis.

I want to thank all the great advise that this E.Clinic has given me.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Epsom Salt Soaks

Arthritis in my hands and knuckles has been cured with tweezers and hundreds of days picking and soaking. It was so bad my thumb wouldn't even open. I had been a machinist, welder, gardener and hiker. Each of those pass-times had added foreign objects into my skin.

Burns, cuts, grinding sparks, splinters, thorns and thistles were all complicit in my hand injuries. My hands were very obviously tough, calloused and curled into claws. As a machinist I was proud of my tough man hands until they lost their ability to serve me.

Last year I decided to try to save them and have been soaking in vinegar water, Epsom salts and tweezing away the callouses. This revealed things underneath that could come out.

A year later and a thousand hours of soaking/tweezing the end is in sight. My thumb moves and the fingers are well on their way to being teenagers again.

So there is hope for others that feel they can profit from this path.

My dad has been suffering with arthritis of the lower spine and gout for 20 years. After eating a large amount of guacamole during football season, he noticed his pain was absent. After reading about the benefits of avocado, he began eating them regularly. Safe effect. For the past 10 years, he has been eating an avocado a day, and it has so much improved his back pain that he is able to jog at least 3 miles every day at 75. Fifteen years ago, the arthritis was so bad that he could no sit or walk without terrible pain. He wanted me to share that as long as he eats an avocado a day, his arthritis is kept at bay. He cures his gout with raspberries and cherries, fresh and also juiced.

Please, please share this information. My dad also tried ACV, but it did not help him with his lower back arthritis as much as the avocado has. For him, it is a miracle. Now that my mom is getting arthritis in her hips, she has started eating avocado too with the same results.

For those worried about the richness of avocados: If you eat a balanced, reasonable diet, you should not worry about the fat in Avocados. It is a good fat.

Baking Soda

hi, just wanted to relate my experience with bicarbs. I have had problems with my knees (a stabing pain under the kneecap) and feet (cramps and tenderness in the balls of feet) for years and used a number of alternatives to help with little or no effect.

After some research on the net I was directed to some info that pointed to an acidic body could be the cause and bicarbs was the treatment so I tried it. The effects were immediate and lasting (for a short while anyway) I have stopped and started my own treatment and the problem surfaces again.

I realise that there is damage in my knees so am waiting for my body to heal as I give it the right conditions by alkalising my body. It seems to be working as my knees feel better but not completely healed, yet. It seems that the problem could be a fungus (candida) but there does not seem to be a quick cure for that, but bicarbs does fight/combat and give my body the chance to heal.

I wondered if anyone else has used or heard of anyone using bicarbs to combat fungus or arthritis.

Hi Gordon... Bicarbs and alkalizing will certainly help but borax is the main cure for arthritis. Arthritis is normally caused by mycobacteria and other associated bacteria. Mycobacteria are bacteria with no cell wall that have fungal-like behaviour. Borax is the ultimate fungal killer. So the best solution is just to take borax in higher dose as recommended on this site together with magnesium oil (60% magnesium chloride and 40% water) which you can just rub into the troublesome area for transdermal absorption.

Bee Stings

Two wasps got into my bathroom and stung me. This was painful and long-lasting, but I am a stoic and did nothing. Then I discovered that my arthritis had ceased to pain me. I've since heard from old-timers that "everybody knows bee stings are good for arthritis." If anybody had told me that I wouldn't have believed it, but boy, is it TRUE!

Well that IS interesting!

There is a chap in this Country who, years ago, set up a business, firstly producing honey, then propolis (sp?) and latterly, bee venom.

He is able to extract the bee's venom and market it as a treatment for Arthritis I think.

I did not realize that a wasp's sting would also work for Arthritis.

Mind you, being stung by our Waikato wasp is no fun. They call it the German wasp in Europe. Not sure what they call it in Germany! We also have hornets and paper wasps plus many native wasps that are not "social wasps". Just FYI as they say.

Cheers from Down Under

Does it have to be a bee sting, would a nettle sting be as effective?

Back in the fifties I watched my grampa climb up "Beehive Hill" every day to catch a bee in one of his wooden hives and then hold the bee on his shoulder and pinch it so it would sting him. :-) Arthritic shoulder remedy! Then, came the day when the bee of the day thought I did it, and it came after me! I ran toward the house but he got me right behind my ear. Gee, that hurt!

Hi Ira,

Where do you get the black cumin powder? Is this the same as black seed oil (nigella Sativa)? I am trying to heal internal infected painful bleeding wounds I have had for 3 months, ulcerative colitis. thank you

@ Stephanie

You can make Black Cumin Seed Powder at home using a electric coffee grinder. Buy a bag of Black Cumin Seed (Nigella Sativa) at a local foreign foods grocery store that services the India community and grind them into a fine powder. Or, can be purchased online through Plant Guru.

I take Cumin Seed Powder (Cuminum cyminum) the same spice used in taco's for rapid weightloss after the COVID lock downs (to many oreo's cookies). So I'm curious to see your results using Black Seed for UC.

Yes. Black cumin is the same as black seed. It comes in powder form or as an oil.

Hello Rob,

How much cumin powder were you taking per day? Did you notice a big difference in your weight loss once you started taking it? I think I'm going to give it a try.

thanks :)

@ Madelyn

Add 1 teaspoon cumin powder to ½ a glass of water and drink it daily. Drink this after your meals every day for 20 days or more for good results. It taste like taco's.

Cumin can help in burning calories faster by increasing the speed of metabolism and improving digestion. When you have a healthy digestive system and a faster metabolism, you will automatically lose weight.

Iranian scientists from the Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences included 88 women who were considered overweight or obese into their study. They randomly divided them into two groups.

– One group ate 3 grams (equal to three-fourths of a teaspoon or 3/4 teaspoon) of cumin powder daily, mixed into 5 grams of yogurt.

– The control group consumed yogurt too, but without any additions.

– Both groups received dietary advice and reduced their daily caloric intake by 500 calories.

Cumin for Weight Loss: Research Results

Different body measurements and parameters were taken before the study and after 3 months of dieting.

Women who were eating cumin, lost twice as much body fat (not body muscle) compared to those in the non-cumin group.

Thanks so much, Rob!

What an easy thing to do.

Losing fat, and not muscle, is a big deal. Unlike using Ozempic and some kinds of other dieting practices. Cumin for the win!

Blackstrap Molasses

I too am amazed. After just three days of taking 2 teaspoons of molasses a day, I noticed my hands were lot less painful. Now after about a month there is rarely any pain at all, the awful grating noise in my thumb joints has practically disappeared and my hands look a lot less swollen and deformed. How does it work??!!

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

Hello everyone... I've been taking blackstrap molasses (2 tablspoons and warm water ) twice a day for about 3 weeks for arthritis in my hand. The pain has reduced to about 50% of what it was before, however I'm been somewhat nauseated and a couple dizzy spells last few days. Is this caused by the molasses or could I be having other issues? Has anyone else experienced this with the molasses? Thanks for your replies.

I have tried just about everything for my swollen joints in fingers from arthritis. My index finger at the first joint closest to the fingernail (distal interphalangeal joint) has been swollen for months. I even have burning sensation near the nail.

So yesterday I started an experiment:

1 tablespoon Baking Soda + 1 Tablespoon molasses. I will start at once a day and then go to twice a day to see if it helps the healing anti-inflammatory process.

Now, I know molasses is high in calcium which is an added benefit.

Blackstrap molasses contains vital vitamins and minerals, such as iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamin B6, and selenium.

I am willing to try anything.

Editor's Choice

I saw one comment from someone on blackstrap molasses for arthritis. I had been up every night in pain, particularly in one knee. The first day I ate 1 Tbs. of blackstrap molasses, and the pain was completely gone. I take it every day. If I go to bed and have a little pain in my knee, instead of pain medicine, I have another Tbs. of the molasses, and the pain subsides in 20 minutes. My uncle was a chiropractor who was into holistic medicine, and use to tell us that there are many benefits of Blackstrap molasses.
