Can you please tell me how to make a simple emulsion of borax, coconut oil and water? I can't and haven't used commercial shampoos or soaps for years because they make my skin very dry and uncomfortable and I like to use more natural things. Recently I started using borax because my other options weren't really getting my hair clean enough and it works great but dryness is becoming an issue for me again now because of it. However I want to continue using the borax because it's natural and it gets my hair clean. I was thinking if I mix it with oil that could combat the drying factor but I don't want to be left oily either so I need to know how to make it mix and emulsify like mayonnaise so it will rinse away without leaving me oily. I would like to make it rather thin so it's easy to put through my hair. Can you tell just a basic instruction of how much of each thing of coconut oil, borax and water and how to do them so that they emulsify together properly?

Hi, i'm using many of Ted's wonderful remedies. The latest is borax for a shampoo. I was scared at first, thought my hair would be a matted, tangled, dried out mess. Well it works better than any shampoo i've tried, and my stick straight thin hair has new thickness and body. So much so, that i was able to get a chin length haircut with bangs which i didn't dare do before. I don't know if i'm right but i use 2 tbsp borax to 2 qts. warm water and pour it over my head about 3 times then massage my scalp then rinse. i almost forgot to mention i don't need a conditioner or detangling rinse. This makes me really happy because i'm trying to reduce or eliminate chemicals on my skin and body.I use borax water to dampen my hair before a hairset too. I have very light gray hair and i'm trying blackstrap molasses everyday to see if i can get some darker hair back. several people who don't know i'm doing this have said my hair looks darker gray, it definetly is darkening at the hairline on the sides and on the nckline after a short time, so i'm hopeful, but just to be able to have body and thickness to my hair is just thrilling no matter what color it is. Thanks so many times for all this information. jackie

Interstitial Cystitis

Hi Stephanie (Nevada). What I did each day was measure out a rounded 1/8th of a teaspoon and put it in a Ramekin. Then I would take a pinch and put it in each cup of coffee (about 4 cups) in the morning. I would use most of it in the morning, but would still have a little left over in the Ramekin to put in warm spring water in the evening.

I used 2 different kinds of litmus paper by (Hydrion, bought on Amazon) to measure the PH of my drinks and my coffee which went from being acidic to alkaline with Borax in it and also bought litmus paper from the same company and place that is used to measure the PH of saliva and urine. My urine went from 5.5 to 7.0 - 8.0 within a 2 to 3 days.

I used up to a 1/4 of a teaspoon on some days. I weigh just a little over 100 lbs.

It not only took away the left sided kidney pain, but also stopped the excruciating burning bladder pain of Interstitial Cystitis.

Hopefully, you feel confident enough now to give the regular grocery store 20 Mule Team brand a try, to see if it can help with whatever is ailing you.

Blessings, Kim.

P.S. I would greatly appreciate, if EC could add/create this information under Conditions of both "Borax Health Benefits" and under Remedies for "Interstitial Cystitis" to create a known remedy/cure for Interstitial Cystitis. Thank you.

Borax / Boron (B/B) are well established on EC for their antiarthritic effects. I previously wrote about the anti osteoporotic effects of B/B here :

https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/osteoporosis-supplements-art-solbrig.html

The following very interesting and fast moving 4 minute video further describes the value of B/B for osteoporosis :

https://youtu.be/2m-dkc7rHrg?si=7xMkNPX8Y_G552jG

Note that they also mention the possibility that B/B may have added benefit to work against tooth decay. If their idea is correct, then people with arthritis and or osteoporosis should have more incidence of tooth decay. To add confirmation to that idea studies should show as much.

In the following two links, it is shown that people with arthritis do have significantly increased levels of tooth decay :

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9321492/#:~:text=The mean number of decayed, than that of the control.

Here is a relevant quote from the link :

' The mean number of decayed teeth (p=0.004) and missing teeth (p=0.026) in the rheumatoid arthritis patients were significantly higher than that of the control. '

In the following Johns Hopkins article it is further confirmed that people with rheumatoid arthritis are at increased risk for tooth decay as discussed here :

https://www.hopkinsarthritis.org/arthritis-news/5-dental-tips-for-the-ra-patient/#:~:text=A study conducted at the, people who have rheumatic diseases.

Here is a relevant quote from the article :

' A study conducted at the Johns Hopkins Arthritis Center found that gum disease and tooth loss are more prevalent in people who have rheumatoid arthritis (RA). '

To delve into the realm of tooth decay and osteoporosis, the following 2 links illustrate that tooth decay is increased in people with osteoporosis :

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5753495/#:~:text=It was found that those, composite score of ≥ 6.

Here is a relevant quote from the link above :

' It was found that those participants with osteoporosis had significantly higher number of tooth loss (5.4 ± 2.8) as compared to those with osteopenia (2.1 ± 2) and normal BMD (1.09 ± 1.2) (P < 0.01). '

The following link adds further confirmation to the idea that people with osteoporosis have increased risk for tooth decay :

https://www.todaysrdh.com/osteo-conditions-overview-and-oral-health-implications/

Here is a very relevant quote from this comprehensive article link above :

' In terms of oral health, osteopetrosis causes changes in the skull and jaw, leading to delayed tooth eruption, severe dental caries, micrognathia, mandibular prognathism, osteomyelitis of the jaw, dental anomalies, deciduous retention, malformation of teeth crowns, abscesses, and facial paralysis.1 '

So it seems pretty clear that there is a fairly direct correlation between arthritis and tooth decay as well as a correlation between osteoporosis and tooth decay. Although teeth, technically are not bones as mentioned here they do contain a lot of boron :

https://www.healthline.com/health/are-teeth-bones#:~:text=Teeth and bones look similar, in your bones and teeth.

Here is a relevant quote from the article :

' Teeth and bones look similar and share some commonalities, including being the hardest substances in your body. But teeth aren't actually bone.'

Although teeth aren't considered to be bone, they do contain a lot of boron as discussed here :

https://www.mdpi.com/2076-3417/14/3/1054#:~:text=Boron exists within the human, in moderate amounts [7].

Here is a relevant quote from the above link :

' Boron exists within the human body, with the greatest amount found in bones and teeth [6]. However, increasing the intake of boron changes the mineral composition of the teeth and shows beneficial effects on the alveolar bone in moderate amounts [7]. Boric acid can reduce alveolar bone loss [8]. Boron enhances the odontogenic and osteogenic differentiation processes in human dental germ stem cells, promoting the proliferation of human dental pulp stem cells. Moreover, it exerts a substantial influence on the growth and development of both bones and teeth [9]. '

To me, the above information suggests that B/B is likely to be very useful for all three health conditions which should also include osteopenia. I like it when a supplement is beneficial for more than one health condition!

Ummm...the brand, Twenty Mule Team Borax, is 99.5% pure Boron, and the other .5% is simply other minerals that were mined in the process of mining the Boron, which are good for us as well. Just go to WalMart and buy a box in the laundry isle, and smell it to make sure it has not been tainted by other laundry detergents, which may have been shipped with it. It'll cost you a whole $3 bucks and some change. Companies selling so called "food grade boron, are just out for the almighty dollar, pretending to make an already perfect product better. Come on people...let's use our heads. I've been using it for four months, for my LUPUS AND FIBROMYALGIA, and I'm amazed and so happy about the results. Here they are;

1. Almost no joint pain anymore. Can walk up and down stairs, all over S.D. Zoo, and then some. Used to only be able to walk about 1/4 mile, and then pain would be so bad, like knives stabbing the sides of my knee joints, I'd have to limp home.

2. Less depression, better mood, everything seems brighter, and I have a better outlook on life.

3. Increased energy?? Well, enough to not only START back at the gym, but WANT to start back at the gym, after years of inactivity, and I am now lifting more than some of the men there!

4. Sex life? Yes, WOW...that's all I'm saying.

5. My body temperature is no longer like the weather in Utah (constantly changing). I no longer sweat to death after climbing stairs, getting out of the shower, or running through the grocery store.

6. Night sweats minimal now.

7. Able to quit two of my lupus meds, methotrexate and one other that I can't remember the name of, and, I was able to taper my prednisone down from 20 mg to 5 mg. Going to go off prednisone completely within the next month

8. Drastically reduced whole -body inflammation. Sternum, lung, and rib pain almost non-existent. Headaches very rarely.

9. My heart palpitations and skipped beats are less frequent, and less severe.

10. There are probably many other benefits which I am forgetting, but the benefits I've listed are awesome!!

I, too, have long hair. I ran out yesterday and bought some Borax after reading all of the comments here regarding its use. I'll have to get really brave before I think about ingesting it though! I tried washing my hair in two quarts of warm water with two Tablespoons of Borax. I do give it credit for detangling my hair. Brushing it out wet has always been a chore. Borax simplified that! However, the end result didn't impress me. My hair seemed heavy and wouldn't move. It appeared matted down after dry. I think adding a tiny bit of shampoo will work for me. I am going to try bathing in it for all of the noted benefits, but I truly am the type that needs some shampoo of some sort.

Maybe I'll try adding a bit to some Baby Shampoo. I love this website!

Hello! I ingested 1/8 teaspoon of borax daily in tap water for 3 months and my health has improved by at least 300%! No more body aches, my cognition is much clearer and I haven't been sick at all with the exception of a cold that lasted only 2 days! Hi TrudyG and all others suffering from insomnia,

I also have opposite reactions to pharmacy drugs, OTC & Rx. Three things have helped me ENORMOUSLY, and all of them don't seem to be mentioned in this thread: https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/insomnia6.html#MR_100360

First, taking a nightly capsule of organic borage oil, regular dose, an hour before bed got me deeply asleep, deeply dreaming, and very calm/confident-feeling the next day. It does take about 3 weeks for most people to have results, although I seem to recall it was more like 10 days for me. After a while I ran out and forgot to take it, only remembered while reading here.

Next, I got an inversion table. You can set it so that you start with a relatively low angle of inversion, by tying the strap underneath--say, 20-30 degrees for at least 10 minutes. That feels like plenty to me. If your heart is lower than your feet by 17 degrees, apparently the lymph glands release and clear. Other benefits I've noticed: practically no asthma, NO INSOMNIA, back pain decreased and overall well-being increased. Not to mention, better circulation.

However I am forgetful so the latest thing I take is borax. This is actually covered in depth at http://educate-yourself.org/cn/boraxconspiracy03jul12.shtml.

In my case, I was looking for help with my out-of-control restless legs syndrome, which, on the first day, diminished almost to nothing (now my Requip prescription of. 25 mg is more than sufficient, where before even 1mg spaced throughout the day barely controlled it. ).

Now I take the borax right before sleep, and I sleep deeply and w/o interruption for 8plus hrs. And I wake up feeling crisp! Also my asthma, which had me audibly wheezing prior to the borax, is slowly disappearing. It's also a fabulous detoxer, and is anti-microbial and perhaps also alkalining too.

At first I took the Borax in the morning, but after 3 weeks, it started to make me very sleepy so I switched to bedtime. It's very fast-acting--one minute I'm lying in bed wide awake, wondering when it's going to start knocking me out, and the next minute, I'm so deeply asleep I haven't even noticed I was getting sleepy, it's so immediate a response.

My friends who are also taking borax find that they have more energy. I MAY be feeling more energetic, but the stuff still knocks me out, so experiment on a laid-back, no-driving-etc-day to see how it affects you.

The other reason I was taking borax is that it balances the whole body's hormone, endocrine, and glandular system over time. I've been taking it now for at least 3 months. I've increased my dose to a tablespoon (from a teaspoon). Just last week it seemed to me that my post-menopausal dryness was no longer an issue. I intend to continue taking this forever.

Oh yes, another borax good result: my neighbor, 70 yrs old, fell off a horse and broke 2 ribs. Since he won't go to doctors, I gave him some borax. He says his ribs healed fast, and with much less pain than the other times they have broken.

Dosing excerpts from midway through the link at beginning of this post:

Firstly, dissolve a lightly rounded teaspoonful (5-6 grams) of borax in 1 litre of good quality water* free of chlorine and fluoride. This is your concentrated solution. Keep the bottle out of reach of small children. (* I''m using distilled water)

Standard dose = 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of concentrate. This has 25 to 30 mg of borax and provides about 3 mg of boron. Take 1 dose per day mixed with drink or food. If that feels right then take a second dose with another meal. If there is no specific health problem or as a maintenance dose you may continue indefinitely with 1 or 2 doses daily. "

(elsewhere in my reading people taking the borax-in-water cure seem to take it for 5 days, stop for 2, then start again for 5 days, off for 2 days, and so on. )

"If you do have a problem, such as arthritis, osteoporosis and related conditions, menopause, stiffness due to advancing years, and also to improve low sex hormone production, increase intake to 3 or more spaced-out standard doses for several months or longer until you feel that your problem has sufficiently improved. Then drop back to 1 or 2 doses per day. "

http://g2cforum.org/index.php/list/other-alternatives/2910-big-island-dairy-farmers-fight-radiation-with-boron

BTW... Trazodone HCL does work for my insomnia. At first I had to double-dose but now I can take 1/4 pill and that will also knock me out.... But why bother when borax is much safer and helps with so many cures.
...............

Last I would like to thank Joy and Everyone about mentioning the water cure. I think adding the right salt will help w my frequent urination, thirst, and allergies. Had forgotten that histamine is a dehydration response. Beginning to wonder if I was developing diabetes. Would diabetes show up in a hair sample?

Many Blessings!

Twenty Mule Team Borax - in any grocery store! It is called a washing soda in some stores- found in the laundry detergent aisle. Been taking on and off for hashimotos/arthritis/gout for yrs-my Rheumatologist agrees! Some on EC have suggested 5 days on and 2 days off.

EC: Washing Soda (sold by the brand Arm & Hammer) is sodium carbonate, which you can make yourself by baking sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) for 30 minutes, so people should carefully not buy washing soda thinking it is boron-containing borax. Here is a box of washing soda on Amazon.https://www.amazon.com/Arm-Hammer-Super-Washing-Soda/dp/B0029XNTEU/

The following remedy not only fixed multiple symptoms after taking covid vaccine but also improved my appetite.

1) Morning:

  • Triphala Powder 100g + Borax 5 g (mix it together) -- 1/2 tsp.
(Borax is available in Ayurveda as Tankan Bhasma)

2) Afternoon:

  • Lithium Carbonate 300 mg (Lithium is an OTC medicine in India) -- 1 tab

3) Night: 10 drops each of following homeopathic drops.

  • Valeriana Officinalis Q drops (Q indicates Mother Tincture) -- 10 drops
  • Alphalpha Q drops -- 10 drops

I generally give a break of 1-2 days after taking borax for 2 weeks.

This helps purging the accumulation of borax to a harmful levels.

The above remedy has reportedly worked for cancer and several other body conditions.

Hi read Jackie's post a week or so ago regarding her results with borax and water to shampoo hair. I gave it a try and my hair felt great. I have long, heavy hair and it felt clean, soft and not dried out at all. Is anyone else doing this? I'm curious to see if anyone else had done this long-term as I want to make sure I'm not going to destroy my color-treated hair in the long run. I found a shampoo recipe online last week that included borax, castille soap, glycerin and a couple other ingredients. It turned out to be a disaster - after using a second time, my hair was a matted mess. I'm thinking it was the Dr. Bronner castille soap - which I love for face cleansing, but not on my hair. I used the straight borax and water this morning and my hair feels soft and clean again.

I have been using Borax for 3 years. I had trigger finger and stared taking borax and within a few days all pain went away... So for the last month I have been washing my face with it everyday and also adding a cup of borax and cup of Dead Sea salt once a week to my bath water for a detox. Well the strangest thing happened. On my face my eyebrows have gotten thicker which I love since I'm am 67 and they had become very thin, but the one thing I didn't like was I have to pluck out mustache hairs every day. I have to shave my legs a lot more often also which I'm ok with that.. I will from now on try to avoid my upper lip but I loving my new eyebrows!

I started reading about ingesting borax and was kind of afraid at first but I've been using a 1/8th teaspoon in a bottled water (liter of water, to which I add more water as I drink it) every day except weekends. I think it has given me more energy, which is why I am keeping it up. I recently fell outside and twisted my ankle-but actually not a whole lot of pain (except when I first did it) and I was able to walk and work (and my work is standing factory work)-and I did twist it so that it swelled up and bruised. I don't know if the borax drink helped-because when I did it I thought I was going to have to call in to my work.

Just thought I'd add a line or two to document the ongoing strangeness that is my borax experience. My teeth have noticeably whitened. I haven't read anything about teeth getting whiter so I'm a little confused. Has anybody else experienced this? Also, regarding the accelerated weight loss, has anybody else experienced anything similar? The only thing I'm doing is taking borax and also rubbing on a little magnesium oil daily.

As for the dilution instructions above, I thought I should let you know that it came from an article I found by a man named Walter Last. The article is titled "The Borax Conspiracy". There's some interesting information in this article, including instructions. FYI - The website I got it from made my browser throw up a warning. I printed it to a pdf and it seems to be ok, but you should exercise due caution.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

Borax water. I would like to know more about your cleansing symptoms. I started drinking 1/8 tsp per liter. I noticed improvements in facial skin, healing, leg pain, and knees not popping the first week.

HOWEVER - Day 6, I became immediately nauseous and very hot while volunteering (planting flowers). I had to leave after 2 hours because it happened 3 times. Then I had to make a trip to the bathroom-very loose evacuation. Was wondering if the magnesium supplement they suggested while drinking borax water may have had more punch than normal from the Borax. I was dumping water on myself to help cool down and since I was with a bunch of older women, joked that it must be my first hot flash that I've been warned about for the past 5 years. (I'm almost 50).

What symptoms did you incur? And is 6 weeks a standard time table? I have no idea what to expect. I'm very tired

another update!!!

ok so i started using the borax again since everything else i have tried, eggs, my soap bars, all leave residue on my hair.

what i've found is that if i put 1 tsp. of borax in a pint of warm water and stir it up good and then use it to wash it works great - with no build up!

and i can still use my ACV rinse - 1 tsp. ACV in a pint of warm water!

i think the key is to rinse very well after the borax and then leave the acid rinse on for a few minutes.

citric acid did not work at all for me :(

also the saturated solution built up on my hair very fast - but at this dilution (perhaps because it is not totally saturated) does not appear to be building up on my hair or my scalp.

and i occasionally use this same measurement on my rattie boy if he gets itchy!!!

Hi Rachel From Indianapolis, I am one that uses Borax daily, as a body wash and hair shampoo. You don't need to mix with anything but water. It is a wonderful and cheap body wash and hair shampoo as is. I know it's hard to get use to because it does not foam, but just pour on and massage into the scalp, and all over the body, rinse, and your done. I still don't need to even use any underarm deodorant, even more money saved, Peace, Rena.

I've been taking borax for well over a decade and have stopped for months, several times with no problems. Now I take it regularly to get all of the benefits that borax may offer. I did however, see a friend who discontinued borax at her doctor's request for well over a year and when she started taking it again, it no longer worked for her osteoarthritis.

Magnesium, you gotta take magnesium with the borax. Glycinate is a good one I think. Much like how some will take a bath with borax and Epsom salt (magnesium) and along baking soda is good to add to the bath as well. A good general rule of thumb is that if stuff is feeling 'stiff' or 'backed up' or 'tight' or anything like that in any sense throughout the body, there's a good chance taking more magnesium will help 👍

You are taking way too much. If you're taking it in 1 litre of water every day, you should only be adding 1/8th of a teaspoon. If you are making a litre of concentrate, this is 1 teaspoon in 1 litre of water, but the daily dose is NO MORE THAN 3 TEASPOONS of this concentrate, starting from a dose of 1 teaspoon a day and working up. John1230, borax doesn't have a grade, it is 99-100% borax. I can't find the recipe in the ailments or remedies, but put about 1 part borax to 2-3 parts water and pour onto hair and leave in for 10 mins. Lily.

Hi, Just want to add that I use sodium tetraborate often. I am using it to successfully treat myself for candida, I use it to dilute my dishwasher powder 50%, the same with washing powder, clothes smell fresher and towels dont have to be boiled !!. I mix the powder with sodium bicarbonate and use it on my carpet several hours before hoovering and it removes the stale smeels that build up over the years, also sprikled in the bin before hte bag goes in to stop nasty smells - this works extremely well. I also use it over my body occasionally before i have a shower - My skin feels and looks healthier. What a great product.

I purchased rife machine, Spooky2, and am very pleased with results for insomnia, add, ocd, and weight loss. I use mine to imprint holographic stickers, which I then put in my bra or sock so it's close to me pretty much 24/7. I gave several for back pain to some co-workers and didn't tell them what it was for, just told them put it in your pocket and I'll explain later. One got so much relief she is purchasing her own unit, the other is skeptical that it did anything--may have been having a good day, etc. Ok. Your mileage may vary but, for me, I think there is something to it.

Dear Brooke,

You have tried so many things for your daughter. (I read your initial post that outlined the many things you have tried.) I am sorry this is dragging on so long for you and for your daughter!

Regarding the borax mixture - I have used a borax recipe from Ted on my goats (with great success, I might add! ) On his recipe for animals he uses 3 heaping Tablespoons of Borax in 4 cups of water. We did not wash this off of the goats. We put it into a spray bottle and sprayed them twice a day. I think 4 days on and 2 days off sounds reasonable. It did not irritate or dry their skin and they had new hair growth in a remarkable amount of time.

I know you have tried castor oil and coconut oil, but I would consider trying them again. On one of the two days off, try gently massing into the scalp equal parts of castor oil and coconut oil (if you still have tea tree essential oil around you could add a few drops of that per tablespoon of oil) and letting it sit on the head for an hour or two, (I wrap the head with plastic wrap and a towel to protect furniture and keep the oils from spreading.) Then gently wash out using the natural shampoo you use. It may take 2 shampoos to get it to not look greasy.

I have read about the late Dr. Christopher using black walnut tincture on a serious scalp fungal infection with great success. If I were going to try that, I would get a good quality black walnut tincture (I trust Herb Pharm.) Put one dropperful of the tincture into 2 ounces of water and apply to the scalp daily. Interestingly, Black Walnut does contain iodine, which has seemed to help your daughter some in the past. Because this could cause a stain, you could try this at night. Perhaps use the borax in the morning?

I would also try some things internally. Extra Virgin Coconut Oil has anti-fungal properties. If you could get her to take 3/4 teaspoon of this twice a day, that may be helpful.

Also, in my house, "When in doubt, try turmeric." I give turmeric daily for something or other. One day I had three children complain of three different ailments and turmeric was the answer for all three! Turmeric is a blood purifier. It has anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. I give a five year old about 1/4 teaspoon a day. In yogurt or applesauce or mixed in a smoothie. (I put 1/4 teaspoon into my 3 year old's breakfast smoothie this morning and he didn't even know it! He was attacked by a mosquito last night and had a lot of itchy bites, so I wanted to get some turmeric into him.) Some say turmeric can be constipating, so it should be taken with plenty of water.

A probiotic or daily consumption of kefir may be helpful, too.

Please let us know how things go for your daughter. And let me know if something I wrote was not clear.

I have used borax water to clean my hair for years. I use 1 teaspoon of borax in a cup of hot water to dissolve. Then I put it in an empty 16 oz shampoo bottle and top it off with RO water - we're on well water which is extremely hard.
In the shower, I shake the bottle and use about 1/4 of it on my hair to clean it. Rinse, spray with ACV water (1 part apple cider vinegar to 5-10 parts water, in a spray bottle) and then do a final rinse.
The ACV in the spray bottle is not an exact science, seems to work just as well with the weaker amount, too.
Good luck!

Jean,

I looked at the article you posted and there is zero scientific study to back it up and the tone is all opinion of one individual; as in "It's also in slimy toys and some nutritional supplements.". Certainly not a statement one would find in a scientific article.

I believe this article is more the truth. http://educate-yourself.org/cn/boraxconspiracy03jul12.shtml

CFS and FMS and Chemical Sensitivity remedy

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)/Epstein Barr related bugs, and others can be reduced quite a bit by taking 1/4 tsp of Borax with one liter/quart of water (purified is best) per day. Sip it throughout the day. (I don't always drink the whole liter everyday but have fewer sensitivities, or can be exposed to fragrances and solvents for longer periods before getting sore throat, coughing, headaches, etc., resulting in sinus infections and flu/cold. If you have a healing crisis (Like flu or sinus infection, etc.) treat accordingly but don't stop the Borax. Maybe take less each day but don't stop, and build up to 1/4 tsp. For ladies, 1/8 tsp. Another simple addition that might help with Fibromyalgia (FMS) brain fog, if that's a problem, is extra virgin coconut oil, 1-3 or more tbs a day. (Great for Alzheimers to. More is better for that (Build up)). The Borax has been a Godsend for my Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), which is often co-morbid with CFS and/or FMS. Stay with it, these help. Perhaps I'll add I also take Fulvic Acid (excellent for unstacking blood cells). Fulvic Acid can cause a healing crisis. I also take 6 grams of Vit. C (not for CFS and FMS or MCS). I have searched for almost 40 years something to help, Borax and Coconut Oil have turned out to be the most effective for me, very powerful. I have been them consistently now for approx. 6 years. Recently started taking 200mg of Boron.

Also, about a year ago I started being treated by Dr. Michael Chance in Gainesville FL with his Hypothalamus Reset Technique. (HST) His treatments markedly improved my quality of life by 20%. Blessings all…

Hi Jeff,

The 200 mg of a boron compound per day is a lot at 10 times the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) of 20 mg /day. Are you still taking the borax at a 1/4 teaspoon per day also? If so, that would put your daily intake of boron over 300 mg/day and that is really a lot of boron at 15 times the UL!

At a bare minimum, it might be worth paying attention for the signs and symptoms of boron/borax toxicity as described here :

https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Boron-HealthProfessional/

Here is a relevant quote from the boron fact sheet :

' Symptoms associated with accidental consumption of boric acid or borax (sodium borate), contained in some household cleaning products and pesticides, include nausea, gastrointestinal discomfort, vomiting, diarrhea, skin flushing, rash, excitation, convulsions, depression, and vascular collapse [2, 6, 46]. The amount of boron consumed in people who accidentally consumed boron ranged from 18 to 9, 713 mg, and most were children younger than 6 years [46]. Boron toxicity can also cause headache, hypothermia, restlessness, weariness, renal injury, dermatitis, alopecia, anorexia, and indigestion. In infants, high boron intakes have caused anemia, seizures, erythema, and thin hair [9]. Extremely high doses of boron can be fatal; for example, 15, 000 to 20, 000 mg can cause death in adults [6, 9]. '

I have never experienced a problem at the 1/4 teaspoon I take, but you are considerably higher than me at the dose you are taking.

Hi Sue,

May I ask you for the link from where you bought the borax you use?

I firmly believe that there are huge quality differences between borax products. The ones I tried/used did not work, the one you use is obviously genuine/real borax since it works for you and in such a short time as well.

In how much warm water did you dissolve the 1/8 teaspoon of borax approximatively?

Thank you very much

Hi Dee,

How much borax do you take per day?

Do you dissolve the powder in hot water first and then drink or place the powder on tongue and wash it down?

When do you take your borax doses during the day, I.e. first thing in the morning and before sleep or at noon?

When do you take your doses in relation to meals, I.e. 30- 60 min before a meal and or 2- 3 hours after a meal on empty stomach or right after a meal or during a meal (like sprinkling it on the food)?

And could you please post the link from where did you get your borax? Not all borax products are the same... I tried some without success... your borax source obviously is genuine and works.

Thank you

So once again, I find myself asking...why not take Boron supplements? There are mountains of studies that Boron and Selenium have the exact same effects on arthritis as Borax.

It is understood that Borax does wonders, but in the state of the world we are in, are people not worried about contamination, quality, production and the fact that it is sold in the store in a box that is not airtight. All kinds of contamination could occur. We talk about our health and rightfully so, but then do not take the simplest precautions. I feel that the health forums/websites/and our version of industry that we operate in has become more of a cult like mindset. No on can disrupt the status quo. As someone who has done this for more than 30 years, we need to be more careful. We avoid the pharma industry and med docs cause they are either ill informed, corrupt or outright trying to make you ill, yet we dont go that extra mile to ensure we protect ourselves from the smaller possible intrusions. Some things to think about.

Hi Jeanette,

Good to hear your experience with borax.

I have a friend who has severe RA and she tried borax at the 1/8th teaspoon dose and it caused severe itching so she tried going down to just a very small pinch of borax in a glass of water because it was helping her arthritis. Even at the small pinch dose, the itching was just intolerable for her.

Eventually I got her to try boron to see if it might also work, but without the itching. Well, she was able to take the boron which she started at 36 mg per day and it was starting to reverse her RA symptoms with no itching, but in the 2nd week or so, she started noticing that she was becoming very depressed which is way out of charachter for her. She decided to decrease her dose down to 12mg of boron per day, but the depression persisted so she went down to 6mg/day which was one capsule. All the while her RA was improving, but even at just one capsule per day, the depression became too much and she had to stop taking it altogether.

Eventually I will let her know about the calcium fructoborate which is derived from plants and she if she wants to give it a shot or not. This would be more like the boron you would get from food and perhaps she will be able to tolerate it. It's nowhere near as cheap as borax, but if it works for her RA the way that boron did and it doesn't cause depression, it will be well worth it.

Clearly borax can have effects on hormones, but it seems to be a very individual thing.

Boron based supplements are usually in the 3 to 6 mg range which is considerably more than you are taking. To get a lower dose you may have to take some type of multi supplement that will have other things in it beside boron.

You didn't say that you have arthritis......do you or are you just taking borax for the mental clarity aspect that you mentioned? I wish it did that for me!

Hi Steph from Los Angeles,

I suggest either spraying your 50/50 mixture on your scalp 15 minutes before showering (& maybe shampooing?) and then rinsing off with a mug or two of "nice" water with a teaspoon of lemon juice in it. OR spraying the same 50/50 mixture on 5 minutes after having shampooed and then rinsing off as above.

Someone on this site also suggested massaging the scalp for many minutes to stimulate it and get the blood flowing etc.

I hope this helps.

Hi, its recommended that only citric acid is powerful enough to remove borax from the hair.

Here is the section on diy borax shampoo by

Dr Hulda Clarke (Ph.D., N.D)

'The cure for all diseases' page 528 (free ebook)

"Shampoo

Borax liquid is ready to use as shampoo, too. It does not lather but goes right to work removing sweat and soil without stripping your color or natural oils. It inhibits scalp bacteria and stops flaking and itching. Hair gets squeaky clean so quickly (just a few squirts does it) that you might think nothing has happened! You will soon be accustomed to non-lathery soap.

Rinse very thoroughly because you should leave your scalp slightly acidic. Take a pint container to the shower with you. Put ÂÂ1/4 tsp. citric (not ascorbic) acid crystals (see Sources) in it. For long hair use a quart of rinse. Only citric acid is strong enough to get the borax out, lemon juice and vinegar are not.

After shampooing, fill the container with water and rinse.

Rinse your whole body, too, since citric acid is also anti-bacterial. All hair shampoo penetrates the eye lids and gets into the eyes although you do not feel it. It is important to use this natural rinse to neutralize the shampoo in your eyes.

(Some people have stated that citric acid makes their hair curlier or reddens it. If this is undesirable, use only half as much citric acid.) Citric acid also conditions and gives body and sheen to hair."

You need more borax than that. Mix a half TSP of borax with a half-tsp of baking soda (not baking powder). Put the resulting powder in a cup or saucer and have it handy. Get your daughter's hair sopping wet. Wet your finger-tips and touch the powder to pick up a bit (about an 8th tsp) and work your fingers into her hair, all over her head. Her hair will soon feel slippery. That's fine. Leave it a bit then dry her hair. Her hair will be a bit stiffer due to the B&BS. The slight solution of borax and baking soda will also remain behind on her scalp and do the job. Repeat the next time you wash her hair. Results should be noticeable in a day.

Energy
Posted by Art (California) on 07/10/2026 2901 posts

Hi again, Steve,

If you have a boron deficiency, that could be a potential reason why because boron can improve the following :

  • Magnesium utilization
  • Vitamin D metabolism
  • Calcium regulation
  • Steroid hormone metabolism
  • Cellular membrane function
  • Low-grade inflammatory signaling

Because magnesium and vitamin D are involved in ATP production and muscle function, improving their effectiveness could make someone feel noticeably more energetic.

It also lowers certain relevant inflammatory mediators such as TNF, C-reactive protein and IL-6 which can cause fatigue.

Boron also does other things in the body which could potentially contribute to an increased feeling of energy, but these other effects are not well scientifically studied in humans.

Hi Tambia,

You may find the following information, regarding borax, of interest :

Boron and antioxidants complex: a new concept for the treatment of kidney stones without rigorous pain:

Urolithiasis

Clinical data

One investigator has reported the use of boron supplementation in approximately 30 cases to facilitate dissolution and/or passing of urinary stones with minimal pain. Boron was supplemented at 10 mg/day with and without additional antioxidants for 2 to 60 days. Boron was well tolerated without observed side effects.(Naghii 2014, Naghii 2013, Naghii 2012) In the absence of a control group, it is difficult to attribute these results to boron.

If you drink tap water you are kinda defeating the purpose. The borax will stay busy detoxing incoming fluoride and never get around to the accumulation in your body. You need to discontinue the use of fluoridated water for any drinking or cooking and use only nonfluoride tooth products. I'd say in your tea is fine but make the tea with distilled water or mineral water

I followed the link to the video page, it took me to youtube, and also youtube have deemed this content as breaching guidlines.... incredibly sad isn't it, that borax has been demonised by big pharma and all others must comply.

Try lysine (500 mg twice a day) along with iodine (2000 micrograms to 12.5 mg) once a day. The pain should clear up in about 5 days. Then take both lysine and iodine for three weeks more .I think personally frozen shoulder (unless caused by an injury) is caused by a virus. The lysine/iodine combo should put the virus into remission. In my case I still had the "frozen" part of the shoulder still when the pain went away. I had to gently work the "frozen" shoulder out which took about 2-3 months.

That's wrong! 1 teaspoon is about 4 gram which is 4000 milligram. So, a third tsp is about 1400 mg and not 140... cheers

EC: David's calculation is more or less correct. The confusion is borax powder vs boron. Borax powder is about 11.3% boron, meaning a ¼ teaspoon contains approximately 113 mg of boron.

Therefore, 1/3 teaspoon of borax contains approximately 150.67 mg of boron.

It is possible borax is helping rattie if he has demodex mites in his hair follicles. Dogs and humans have demodex mites. In dogs it causes mange. Borax kills the mites. They come out of hair follicles to breed at night. They itch like crazy and can even cause rosacea in humans it is said. People are allergic to the mites droppings in the hair follicles or even the mite itself as it dies in the follicle.

Hi Steve,

I use 20 Mule Team Borax available in most market laundry aisles. I never noticed the increase in energy, but that is a known effect of borax so morning dosing is suggested because it can interfere with sleep in some people. For me, I use the dose that Ted recommended for men of a quarter teaspoon in a quart of water, each day, sipped throughout the day for 5 days on and 2 days off. I tried the women's dose of 1/8th teaspoon, but it was not as effective for me as the quarter teaspoon.

Are you taking this for arthritis? It took roughly a month for me to see noticeable improvement and around three months to become pain free. I have severe psoriatic arthritis and it has kept me virtually pain free for over 18 years now!

Not everyone can tolerate borax, but the majority of people can. It is not a cure, but for me it has been life changing and it is easily the least expensive supplement I take.
