The absolute best treatment for hemorrhoids (and believe me, I used to get my share of them) is a sitz bath filled with warm water and some witch hazel.

You can pick up a sitz bath at CVS, Walgreen's, etc. for only about $10-15 and get the witch hazel there as well.

You fill the sitz with nice warm water, add about a cup of witch hazel, then sit and soak for about 20 minutes a couple of times a day. Do it as often as you like, and keep a good sized glass or small container near you so that you can add warm water from the sink to the sitz when you feel that it's cooled. You want to keep the water warm for the entire 20 min's.

You will feel almost *instant* relief while soaking and within a couple of soaks, be feeling MUCH better.

Going forward, once the 'roid' is gone, the minute you feel something brewing down there, start with the sitz baths, and really... you'll be problem-free.

The whole story started a few years ago. In brief, I had problems with breathing. The doctor, professor of medicine, without any thorough examination for the possible reasons (most probably the reason was stress), prescribed antibiotics without any protection (ie. probiotics).

Well, in fact he examined the lungs and didn't find anything suspicious but anyway, preventatively, he prescribed antibiotics. I wasn't wise enough to protect myself on my own at that time.

After completing the treatment with antibiotics I contracted Clostridium difficile infection in a quite severe form. I was very reluctant to take another
antibiotic to kill the infection and that was the mistake. Eventually I took the prescribed metronidazole. Lucky for me it worked and fought the infection (the proof that antibiotics are not always so bad). Unfortunately I waited too long and as a result I got IBS-D (diarrhea form of irritable bowel syndrome). I guess, at that time my microbiota (microorganisms living in the guts) was completely messed up.

As a result of frequent discharging (about ten times a day) I developed internal hemorrhoids (bleeding during discharge, no pain). I tried the methods described on this site but without success.

I was depressed. Finally, without much hope, I switched, in my daily beverages (tea, coffee, water), from tap water to spring water bought at a local shop.
To my surprise, it worked. After three weeks bleeding disappeared, discharging stabilized at once a day on average (although still every couple of days in a liquid form).

I should also mention that this changing from tap to spring water helped my mother-in-law to stop stomach mucosa bleeding caused by tonnes of medicines she is taking. Before that she regularly, once a year, visited hospital to have blood transfusions.

As I am a man of reason, I tried to find some explanation for this. The only explanation which comes to my mind is the following one.

Tap water in my city (as I guess is the case in most places) is chlorinated ie. chlorine compounds are added to water during its treatment to disinfect it.

Chlorine acts on the body as a drying agent (you can notice the effect of dry skin when washing hands in chlorinated water and this is not only soap causing it) and probably, as a result intestinal mucosa becomes dried up, less flexible and more prone to mechanical microdamage during discharge.

As for my IBS-D, it is still there, but in a much milder form. I guess the reason is imbalanced microbiota in my intestines. Most probably I should change my diet to cure it. I know that first of all I should eliminate sugar, but I am simply addicted to it.

I hope this simple and inexpensive method will help the people with similar health problems.

Stone Root Extract (Collinsonia)

My go-to for the occasional hemorrhoids (once every 10 years or so) is Stone Root extract herbal tincture. At about 23 years old I became vegetarian. I am an avid athlete weight lifter and sadly I immediately lost over 50 lbs of lean hard muscle (and most of my strength too). Then while bearing down as I was trying to bench press (my previous warmup weight), I felt a burning pain in my butt. Doctor diagnosed hemorrhoids...with zero family history of this I was shocked. Doctor said "Welcome to it, it is very common with weight lifters."

I was only 160 lbs at that point having lost from my 210ish normal weight. I tried medications (all of them) and nothing worked. So I went to the health food store and asked the lady on the vitamin aisle. She smiled and said "Oh, yes, I have just the thing for you! Collinsonia, also called Stone root." I took a dropper full in the store and by bedtime 3 hours later I was "burning-itching-stabbing pain" free.

The next day I could pass stool without pain or blood. I kept getting them every month or so and kept taking stone root each time. Then I started eating meat again and they didn't come back for over 10 years of weight lifting and heavy lifting at work. Took stone root and gone.

Then in my early 40s, I got some that didn't go away with stone root alone (a different brand?), I had to drink fresh carrot and spinach juice 2 times a day for 3 days and GONE were the painful bleeding hemorrhoids. So, heavy lifting only causes them if you bear down deep. I learned to breathe and lift without ever doing that in the gym or on the toilet too...bearing down is foolish and dangerous.

Hope this helps some of you out there and many thanks to EC for all you do.

Wow, I have just tried the Tea Tree Oil remedy for Hemorrhoids after reading about it this morning on this amazingly helpful website............................... and it works! Instant relief for my inflamed and bleeding anus, and some internal irritation too. I am not saying this is a "cure" but it definitely calmed and cooled everything down on first contact.

I used it after applying my homemade "Vaseline", which is 4 parts Extra Virgin Olive Oil, to one part Beeswax ( plenty videos on Youtube on how to make it)............... we really do not want to be putting a Petrol based substance on sensitive skin or any way internal. Then I applied the Tea Tree Oil ( this is just cheap stuff out my local thrift store, so I thought it may not work LOL), and yes, instant relief and the area now actually feels "good" instead of sore and irritated.

So a massive thank you to everyone who posted about using this method.

PS. The Olive Oil is full of Vitamin E which helps the skin to heal and stay moisturised as well.

I am pregnant (8 months) and have tried nearly everything to help the pain and discomfort of my frequent external hemorrhoids. This was the only thing that actually helped. I did have to use the "technique" about once daily for 4-5 days, but they healed quicker with no more pain or discomfort. Thanks so much!

As to hemorrhoids the ones that are external, in other words that you can feel with your fingers. you can try putting any natural or over the counter ointment on them. eventually the hemorrhoids will retract and go back in to the body. But this could take hours sometimes and in the mean time there is pain. If quick relief is what you want take a shower and clean the area good with any soap. Ivory soap is good its 99% soap no oils or perfumes. after you are clean while in shower apply good amount of soap thru fingers. This will act like lubricant and gently with your middle finger not using your nails! push them back in! this works all the time the pain will leave you immediately. This was told to me by a nurse and till this day it works. Just remember -- change your eating habits cause you will get them again or operate them if you don't want to go thru hassle of always having to push them back in...

I have had an anal fissure along with internal piles for the last year. I cured myself for 5 months and have had some relapses in between. I initially started using the nitroglycerin ointment prescribed by the doctors, for 6 weeks to widen blood vessels and allow the area to heal. I got the headaches that were a side effect but nothing worse than the pain of the fissure and hemorrhoids. But a month after the fissure re tore and got the piles back to. I guess this was because I had high rectal pressure and a very dry anus.

So through experimenting I found turmeric powder mixed with either of these things; aloe Vera, castor oil, olive oil, tea tree oil, witch hazel, vitamin e oil - was helping. I would apply it directly to my fissure and piles every day once in the morning and evening. Lay on my side and let it soak in. Tumeric is a god send!!!

Occasionally I would crush half a piece of garlic coat it in oil and put this on my bum.. I wouldn't leave it on for longer than 10 minutes. I tried the apple cider vinegar topically which actually didn't work for me but I think that's because I have an internal pile so will have to drink the apple cider vinegar in water.

I have bought rutin and vitamin b6. Rutin I eat twice a day and vitamin b6 once. This apparently strengthens the colon wall which is what you want. I have upped my vitamin c and cod liver oil which I have found helps. Also, I am anemic which affects my red blood cells inevitably affecting the healing and inflammation. So it is important to know if your iron levels are ok..

I have upped my fibre (research soluble and insoluble fibre) I drink loads of water, I have found apples to be great. Started to drink green, peppermint tea which is good for your gut. Also eating garlic in yogurt(probiotic) 2-4 times a week. Having 2 sitz baths a day and massaging my bum, putting a hot water bottle on my bum so that I am relaxing muscles so that I can heal.. Changing your mindset is also important. I know it's easier said than done but try not to stress. I sit in a squatting position and always make sure my bum is clean but moisturised and lathered with Vaseline or aloe vera or oil because it promotes healing.. oddly enough I didn't find coconut oil worked for me because it acted as a coating but didn't moisturise or allow me to heal as it was acting as a barrier. I think keeping in the routine of doing these things is important to prevent reoccurrence.

Hi all. Hems, how annoying. I endured an internal one that would present itself during bowel movements with depressing regularity. Such an annoying and bothersome condition because you're daily reminded about it. Acv, coconut oil, garlic orally and suppository, more fibre, more water, more fruit, more exercise, molasses, cayenne you name it. I tried all of the things I read about here and sure I'm probably more healthy because of it but over a couple of years I have not seen any improvement.... Until about a week ago I started taking Tumeric. I cannot say for sure that it is the singular factor but the correlation of significant improvement with this condition and taking tumeric seems too close to ignore. I say improvement only because I'm still finding it hard to believe that the condition may actually be fixed as I approach with trepidation, every passing motion. People are here because, I guess like me, they prefer natural remedies, don't want surgery and aren't having luck with chemist bought stuff. If you've got hems you've probably done a stack of research and realise that why we get them is still open to conjecture. Some say candida, some say not enough fibre, straining on the toilet etc, in some way I guess you could link them all up as digestive. I'm not a doctor and the stuff I'm reading about Tumeric/Curcurmin talks about how it's anti inflammatory , antic bacterial and a natural liver detoxifier as well as a bunch of other ways its good for you. Anyway I just thought I'd add my experience to the list.

I take a couple of 500mg Tumeric/curcumin tablets with meals every day and after a few days I was surprised by an improvement ( I wasnt taking it explicitly for hemms ) and then after around a week things seem to have at least 90 percent improved, I say 90 percent, maybe its a 100 it's just that after a couple of years with it it's difficult to know what a "normal" bowel movement without a hemm appearing feels like. Anyway if you find yourself in a similar position to me you might want to give Tumeric/curcumin a try. The last thing I wanted to do was subject myself to surgery because of it. It's an annoying condition, like many I suppose, because its depressing and a constant annoyance but hopefully this is the factor that helped me and with many luck you too. Good luck and be patient finding something that will work.

I tried ACV for hemmies, didn't help. Also did witch hazel, which acts an an astingent and will shrink them but doesn't last very long. cool it in the fridge first, feels good. What works best for me is vaporub. Burns at first, but really heals them up. I, too, have ibs and the Apple Cider Vinegar didn't matter either way with that. Nothing I have tried has stopped my ibs-d, ever. I have had it since I was a preschooler and now I'm pushing 60.

I just had the biggest hemorrhoid ever. I couldn't close my legs or walk or sit or lay down or stand, or even wear underwear and tighter pants. It was the size of a peach pit and protruded out from my cheeks. I wanted to scream. I desperately tried ACV, sitz baths, castor oil, iodine, aloe. The castor oil soothed it a little, but didn't reduce the size of this raging behemoth. ACV didn't do anything and diluted iodine just burned. Aloe went inside my hole by accident and really stung inside all night long. The sitz baths felt good while doing them, but when I dried off, it was back to normal for ol rhoidy. Vicks is the only thing that has soothed it within a minute of application, and decreased the size by half overnight. I was able to walk, sit, and wear underwear again! In three days it went from the size of a peach pit to a small peanut. I could cry; I am so appreciative.

NOTE: I originally had a can of knock-off Vicks from Amazon (bought a while ago) that did not work at all. Why? It did not have turpentine. Turpentine is the key ingredient. I found that out from my sister and immediately went to the store and bought Vicks, and that was the key. A lot of store brands comparable to Vicks do have turpentine, but you have to check those ingredients!

You should keep some Witch Hazel (near the rubbing alcohol in the store) on hand. It is an astringent and can reduce hemmorhoids, for awhile at least. I keep it in the fridge, the cold feels so good. For a large rhoid, soak a cotton ball or wad of gauze with it, place it on the rhoid and see if your cheeks won't hold it in place because then you can put on underwear and keep it in place for a long time.

I'm terrified of surgery and have no insurance either, and I don't want to become addicted to painkillers. Hope I don't have to spend the rest of my life like this.

At walmart ,near the feminine pads is a section with cream for yeast infections. Next to it is a cream called vagicaine. It numbs the area. Buy some witch hazel to shrink the hemorrhoid. Buy some yeast cream to put in the rectum just in case you have some imbalance there. Buy some store brand colace to get rid of any constipation. Buy a freezer gel pack to ice the area. Buy two so one can freeze while you use the other. If you are miserable, get in the tub, drink 16 ounces of water and lemon, orange or pineapple. The bath water will trick your brain into thinking the pain is coming from a larger area and shrink the signals. Blessings, Charity. Sit on a core ball.....

Piles are caused usually by the parasite Pinworm! Now pinworm is one of the hardest to remove ... but a course of Clark Fx ( the 3 herbs cloves, wormwood and green Hull of Black Walnut) .... dose 3 times a day for 30 days ..then weekly maintenance doses along with a more alkaline diet! Now Parasites carry virus and bacteria ... so beware possible infections during treatment! Read Dr Hulda Clark!

@Ingo,

I had hemorrhoids, it was caused by food with lack of fibers: mashed potatoes, tomato paste, white rice, etc. Cooked food can soften the fiber and make transit harder. Avoid or limit coffee, gluten is harsh on intestines, it makes them porous.

It all went away, but : use hemorrhoid cream, do not use toilet paper they are too harsh, I use reusable cloth. Avoid walking too much during crisis if possible it hurts.

I am really concerned with all these people who equate hemorrhoids with lack of fiber. I have ibsd, never constipated, and the diarrhea will sure trigger hemis. Adding fiber just makes it worse in my case. And don't overlook the fact that ibsd or constipation can result from factors beyond your control, such as medical conditions. I had radiation twice in my life, once while still in the womb. Since I have done everything I can do for the last 60 years to overcome the diarrhea and nothing has worked, I conclude that the radiation, beyond my control, is a factor. I also had several concussions as a young child and head trauma is also a factor. Any remedies for that, and I'll listen.

Hi GertJr,

I am currently studying to override original programming from womb to at 7. Dr. Joe Dispenza and Dr. Lipton put some keys in my hand and I'm not sure yet which doors they unlock but I will be trying them out. One is that your subconscious mind is your body and is 95 percent of the brain you live in. 5 percent is your reasoning brain that does research, watches movies and get inspired but connot change the 95% except in the hypno state 1/2 before sleep and 1/2 hour before waking. That has to be done intentionally or it will never happen. My issues from trauma are my body is addicted to cortisol and I need to give it more endorphins from good vibrations to override that addiction to change it's energy source. Fear or faith doors are what they are . Fear stops digestion. I just learned this in the last 10 days of studies, so I have lots of application to figure out. My other limit is I am a Jesus freak so I have to be careful to not get involved in occult issues while I am trying to heal myself. I am BODY MIND & SPIRIT and can't heal without all three areas addressed. Loveyou GertJr, sorry if my colace comment set you off. I had C-Diff for over half a year battle and couldn't eat a cracker without a toilet nearby. Normally I need Ox bile daily and kefir or all movement stops in my intestines. Running from my trauma.

GertJr,

With diarrhea, hemorrhoids can be caused by sitting on the toilet frequently for extended periods of time as you wait for the diarrhea to stop. The hard seat significantly reduces normal blood flow to the area which can cause hemorrhoids.

Have you looked into LDN or high dose melatonin(HDM) for the IBS-D. Low dose melatonin may be useful for IBS-C.

Art, no I haven't heard that high dose melatonin could help. Is the help temporary or more permanent? And, what dosage are we talking about here? I'm willing to try that. I had looked at the LDN some time ago and don't remember why I didn't try it, is it by prescription? That's usually the only thing that stops me from trying something. Thanks again for all your help.

Hi, GertJr. I was reading down the thread looking for treatments for my daughter, who has just had a baby, and I saw your reference to IBS. Everybody is different, but I had IBS badly for 20 years. One day three years ago I decided to try lower-carb eating to lose weight, as an unexpected, but much appreciated, side effect of going off all grain products (bread, baked goods, etc) my IBS stopped, never to return again! I find if I have too much fruit, I get a little tummy ache. I have finally figured out all these years later, that eating a grain-free diet while watching my fruit consumption has sorted it. I'm not saying it will work for everyone, but it worked for me when I thought I would have to live with IBS for the rest of my life. All the best.

The LDN is the one to try first as it has a fairly good track record with IBS/Crohn's disease and although it is helpful for many other diseases, it has shown the most benefit with IBS. The melatonin would be the second choice as there is a chance it can exacerbate the diarrhea.

LDN is by prescription, but it is very mild and slow acting. I've used it in the past and it did not give me any problems.

I've recently bought organic ACV and have been drinking a cup with luke warm water every day for almost one week. I can't say that I've experienced any noticeable effects yet, but I do like the tangy, mildy sweet taste of it. A couple of times I heated the water a bit more and added raw honey to satisfy my sweet tooth. For me that's like having a cup of tea and is very enjoyable.

I've suffered miserably with hemorroid flareups for the last 10 years (since the birth of my 3rd child). For the last couple of years I've been having a great deal of bleeding in addition to the severe pain. I've been putting off the surgery suggested to me by several doctors and decided to look for alternative methods to manage and hopefully cure this painful condition.

I tried Vick's as suggested on this site when I was out of Prep H and plus I felt that it has been losing its efficacy on me. Vick's was like a wonder drug and shrunk the swelling way faster and more effectively than Prep H. I had already been applying aloe gel as I was aware of its healing and soothing properties. The combination of the 2 made me feel 100% better. My only problem now is that the protrusions return after each BM. I'm hoping that eventually my body will heal to the point that they don't return. I used to like to do strength training (I'm a woman and was only using 5-10 pound weights) but had to abandon it because of the pressure it put on my roids and caused me to have really bad flareups after each workout. I would love to be able to return to strength training.

Bye bye and God Bless!

Most of my life I had bee avoiding eating products of white flour. A little haemmorrhoids I could massage away with some natural ointment.

And then I spent Rosh Hashanah with my grandchildren. Eating white chala very evening, and honey cake whenever I got hungry. Back at home: really and epidemic of hemmorrhoids! Now I am going through all the list of natural remedies to heal them away.

Why I reply to this post? You might heal fast and completely if you avoid bread or any other bakery of white flour, or even any other flour for a time. Also stay away from barley and quaker oats.

I would be glad to hear whether my advice was of use.
