WORKED TEMPORARILY

Well idk where to start...I've suffered with this all through my teens and now in my twenties...I've been to the doctor countless number of times. I've had this infection about 20 times so far this year...my doctor recommended boric acid pills. I tried that and thought I found relief until I felt the discharge 2 days later. I've recently tried the acidophilus capsules and the folic acid, and I've been doing that for the last week and a half but I haven't seen any difference. BTW I've been take acidophilus pills by themselves well before I started the boric acid. So that was probably about 3 months ago I've started them. I've ran out of options because this keeps coming back..any suggestions ladies?

WORKS TEMPORARILY

I have been try for a year to get rid of this bv.. tho after I had my son 9 years ago... I've been suffering from this constant. I'm so over it and want to be normal. I do the boric acid now and after a year, I feel it has done nothing. So you think I should add a yeast medicine? My doctor just says keep using boric acid.I swear if I miss a step it comes back. I'm so self conscious and I just recently start seeing someone. So annoying!

Hi! I've been suffering on and off with yeast infections and BV for about a year now. Its been one of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with. I would either get prescribed diflucan/monistat for yeast and metrogel/tindamax for BV. When I first started having the infections the medications helped, but for the last 6 months or so, the medication would only work until I would stop taking it then I'd feel off again down there. Having sex irritated it even more. My doctor prescribed boric acid suppositories ( I think its 600mg) every other night for a month while taking a probiotic and no unprotected sex. I just started last week. The next morning after my first dose, the odor and itch was gone. Discharge went away by the second dose (except for the discharge from the boric acid of course). I'm waiting to see what will happen once I do have sex again, or when the month is up and I'm no longer taking the boric acid. I will try to give an update to see if this will work for me long term.

Boric Acid Suppositories worked way beter than Flagyl, way better than MetroGel, Mertonidazole and any other prescription, it even worked bettern than cleocin. I used to suffer from BV years ago 2008 to 2012 but then it went away once I started using the Boric Acide capsules, nothing seemed to work. Then I had a baby in 2013 and I didn't have BV until 2015 and it came back with avengeance and it is driving me crazy because my hubby thinks I don't want be with him intimately, but this freaking BV makes it uncomfortable to urinate let alone have sex.

Boric acid capsules are safe and very effective at getting rid of both bv and yeast. The Humco brand of boric acid is readily available at Amazon. They have the empty gel caps too. Look at the user reviews for a wealth of information and positive reviews. One important thing for me was to use an applicator to insert the capsules. It makes using the capsules easier and I believe it makes them more effective at curing infections. My drugstore did not have any disposable vaginal applicators and it makes no sense to re-use them when you have an infection. I don't care how much soap and hot water you use, it's better to use a clean one each time. I googled "disposable vaginal applicators" and found a great website. For an active infection use one capsule at night for two weeks. You will need to wear a pad the next day because there will be a watery discharge. For prevention I use a capsule once a week.

After many episodes of struggling and suffering with infections I am grateful to sites like this one and every person who took the time to share their stories and ideas. I had a lot of anxiety along with these formerly chronic infections and I really hesitated to use boric acid suppositories. Thank God I got past the fear and discovered my cure. By the way, my naturopath did offer to give me a prescription for the suppositories at a compounding pharmacy. I make the exact same capsules myself for a fraction of the price. As a previous poster mentioned: you can search YouTube for an instructional video on making your capsules. I keep them in a Tupperware container with a tight lid. They ARE toxic to ingest so keep them far away from children and pets. Good luck and do not give up. These stupid infections can be overcome. Good health to all of you.

For BV, use the boric acid powder protocol. Gets rid of it instantly. No pain. ( purchase from a good health food store) and fill 00 capsules, 1 inserted at night for about 5 nights. However, the smell will disappear after 1 night.

What I have learned and know to be true is that my mate of 20 years and myself PH balance stop mixing about 6 years ago. I get rid of my bacterial infection with metro-gel 0.75% and I'm fine until I have sex with him again then it's back. Our PH balance does not mix so really if I had another mate I might not have this issue at all. So your husband should realize it's him also you and his ph balance is not compatible at all. Just pay attention once you cure your BV your fine until you have sex with him then it's back again. I recommend condoms while having sex or you will contiously have this issue with sexual intercourse with him. So it's not all you your PH balance with him does not mix. I been fighting it too. I hate to have sex with my mate sad to say because I don't want to have to smell and treat myself all over again. At this time I am on boric acid suppositories and they work quick and you feel so relieved.

Peroxide won't change the pH, but it will kill off bacteria (all sorts). Boric acid lowers the pH, which will kill some bacteria but mostly allows the environment to select for bacteria that should be there/can withstand a lower pH. They are both supposed to be effective for BV, and some people use acidophilus vaginal suppositories after treatment to inoculate their vaginas with "good" bacteria that maintain the pH low enough that the stinky stuff can't grow.

I have had BV for years. It used to flare up only after sex or around period time. It's getting worse - I'm 45 and can't keep it away. I think it is also causing a great deal of urinary irritation (my theory, not proven) because when the bv flares up I have frquent urination ans some burning but no UTI.

Boric acid used to always help and now its not as effective. I am going to try the yogurt and peroxide. This is nuts! I also buy high quality probiotics for women and that doesn't help! Lastly, I saw one comment that said seafood makes it worse. I've noticed the same thing. How ironic because they both smell fishy.

I have been struggling with BV for about a year now and the boric acid pills really help. I had unprotected sex with my bf and I inserted a pill the night before we saw each other and one right after we had sex. Everything seems to be in order and I haven't had to put another pill in for about a week now. I also use an exterior vaginal shampoo everyday, it's supposed to help maintain the vaginal PH levels. You may also try nonfat plain greek yogurt and that seems to help too due to the probiotics. You can insert it directly into the vagina and eating it helps too!

Hey girls! I'm 23 and I have been suffering from BV for almost a year. I went to the doctor SEVERAL times. Got the antibiotics and they only ever worked for a few days, then it would come right back. I tried the Hydrogen Peroxide tampon soaking and douching. When I did that it usually worked for about a week at a time. Not enough of a cure, just a short term thing. Once I was referred to an actual OB/GYN (as opposed to a general practitioner) she prescribed the boric acid suppositories.

She gave me 14. I did inserted them nightly for 10 days and used one after every sexual encounter. It was GREAT until I ran out. My doc gave me 3 refills thankfully. I realized I wasn't fully cured after the first 14 doses. I refilled them and now I only use them after sex. So far things have been going well. I'm hoping that once I use up all of the refills that I don't have to call her back up for more. Hopefully things are going back to normal. Here's hoping!! :)

I couldn't agree with you more. The boric acid was wonderful for me. I would do the same thing, pretty much use it every day...However, I started bleeding every time I'd use it, like it would cause a full blown period, and my gynecologist couldn't give me answers (he'd say, well, ya know...it's an alternative treatment, I don't know much about it bla bla bla). I didn't feel irritated or anything...I'd just use one suppository at night... I'm going to try coconut oil capsules, I heard they work great, I tried them a while back but they weren't that effective...*sigh* the boric acid suppositories are the best thing for bv hands down!

It has been 4 months since my last post so I thought I would check back in. I have been completely free from any BV symptoms since I started my treatment plan (see above).

I started with 2 boric acid pills on the first night of my period and then one boric acid pill for the next 5 nights.

Then for the next 2 periods, I inserted one boric acid pill for the last 3 nights of my period.

During this time I took a probiotic and folic acid daily. I also regularly but not routinely took vitamin D and vitamin C, probably every other day or so.

I have been free from BV for this entire time, despite regular and unprotected (baby-making) sex. I do not douche after sex and have stopped douching altogether. I have, however, had small bouts of thrush which is something I have battled with long before BV reared its ugly head. I did not take any antibiotics for this but instead persevered with my treatment plan and ate lots of probiotic-infused yoghurt.

I am so happy to be BV free after 2 years and would highly recommend this regimen!

I will continue to insert a boric acid for the last night or two of my period or as needed in the future.

What help me is a boric acid suppository. I insert one boric acid pill into the vagina before bed, wore a panty liner. I did this for twelve weeks. Along with taking oil of garlic pill twice a day and good probiotic. Also stopped all sugar, and tried to eat a plant based diet (no spinach cuz of oxalates) Soaking in warm bath with a couple drops of tea tree oil and two drops of eucalyptus oil. Tea tree oil is strong so better to add two drops and then see how you feel, before you add more.

My roommate went to her doctor and she got boric acid suppositories to use for 14 days and cream triamcinolone 0.1 %CR. for her chronic and uncomfortable BV. It worked well but the 14 boric acid capsules cost 58.00 and the cream was expensive too. I have the same issue so I bought a bottle of boric acid powder and 00 size empty gel caps. I got 6oz of boric acid for 7.50 and 300 caps for 7.00. I use vagisil cream for the itching and summers eve cleaning wash every day (I have a bidet which helps). All my problems resolved. So did my roommate's. Hers has returned so I made her more boric acid suppositories tonight. It really does the trick!

I know a cure. It worked for me. Boric Acid. Put into vegan empty capsules and insert 2 into vagina at night for one week. If the odor is not gone continue use of pills filled with Boric Acid. Then buy some Neem powder and put into empty capsules. Take one capsule once a day in the morning is good. The Neem powder will prevent the BVD from coming back. Do this it cured me!! ☺

You are not supposed to. Intercourse pushes the bacteria up and can cause a UTI. Also, intercourse with use of boric acid can cause further irritation and/or infection. I would let your body heal first.

If you are getting BV every time you have sex, it is likely that your partner has it and they keep giving it back to you. You & your partner should be treated at the same time, then it's not likely to come back.

I used premade suppositories from online 4 times in 2 weeks & suddenly had terrible stomach cramps, nausea, no interest in eating, joint pain, inflammation & twitching, feet swelling. Thought it was RA and/or diabetes/salt intake, had bloodwork and it was normal. After about a month and throwing away the boric acid it went away. I'm not on any prescriptions & was taking no new supplements/vitamins.

Lu from (Co),

I used to think that also about boric acid, but it turns out that Borax is converted to boric acid once it is ingested, in the small doses used by people, once it meets hydrochloric acid in the stomach. When ingested, borax reacts with hydrochloric acid in the stomach to form boric acid and sodium chloride.

I feel your pain. I have been suffering from this and I get put on flagyl and it will go away but then a few weeks later seems to be back. I am a diabetic and was told I am more prone to have issues but geez.... the doctor gave me pills as well for my husband just to make sure we were BOTH clear and Lord he acusses me of catching this from someone. I try telling him that this is not an STD but he won't listen. I have presently been to the doctor AGAIN and he put me on boric acid suppositories... I just don't care for "feeling" the discharge. Just makes me feel "unclean." And I also have to do a round with flagyl again AND they want me to give to my husband as well..... thus is going to cause a HUGE argument with accusations.. 😔

I'm sorry but I do not agree though a Obgyn has knowledge of bv. You know your body more THAN ANYONE. Me and my ex had unprotected sex our whole relationship. NO BV. When I was with my new partner every time we had unprotected sex I GOT BV! No, my diet didn't change, I only got bv right after sex, then we finally started using condoms and voila, NO BV so for me (and others out there).

Your MATE plays a HUGE role in your BV!!!

I went to google and did a little reading in some diaper blogs for you...it appears people wear diapers with no issues during the day but at night have this issue. They believe it is sweating that causes it and use a moisture layer of cream or diaper cream to prevent the skin from itching. Blessings on your journey, Charity

I am a working nurse and have done quite a bit of research on this subject. I have read actual research articles done under controlled conditions. It seems that boric acid is used in many countries without access to 'modern' medicine with very good results. The CDC has published information on dosing schedules for chronic or resistant vaginal yeast infection. The commonly accepted dose for bacterial vaginal infection seems to be one 600 vaginal insert at night and one in the morning for one to two weeks with no sex or anything else inserted into the vagina. I have come to learn that I have recurrent bacterial infection after using lubrication and sex toys. Symptoms become worse after working out/sweating in acrylic leggings. I have never had a chronic infection and I have kidney problems, so I can't take certain antibiotics. Boric acid seems to be the way to go for me.

Just a wee note regarding the pH comment: BV actually loves an alkline environment, so having a more acidic vaginal pH is preferred for good vaginal health (around 4). The good flora in the vaginal tract create hydrogen peroxide which helps to keep the vaginal pH appropriate--Boric Acid does much the same...

I have been fighting BV (Bacterial Vaginosis) for over 2 years. I went through a full hysterectomy over 4 years ago so I no longer have monthly cycles and I thought that was the reason. I went to my Family Physician who put me on Flagyl for over 6 months and the test results kept coming back positive for BV. I was then referred to a Gynecologist that put me on Metronidazole gel month after month For 6 months and still the test showed positive for BV. I was then referred to a Urologist. It was then I was introduced to Boric Acid. I explains the frustration of 2 full years of treatments with no cured results. I have been using Boric Acid suppositories now for 3 months and still test positive for BV and I have not been sexually active in over 5 Months. The Urologist states that it may never go away or be cured but I will tell you the Boric Acid Suppositories sure do make life much easier! My Pharmacy makes the compound for me each month for $29.00. I insert each night before bed and it's melts quickly with no smell, no discomfort and no side effects. I use mine 21 straight days then I take the rest of the month off. Begin again on the following 1st of the month. It must be refrigerated at all times But so worth it!!

Aloha, Rs

The boric acid caps sound amazing. BUT, I need to tell you about the veggie caps you're using. Although veggie based - please understand that in the process of making them - there is NO WAY the manufacturer can produce them without using certain lubricants that's carcinogenic. When you get capsules - look for KOSHER BOVINE capsules. They are safer than the veggie type - minus the carcinogenic lubricant. I am not a health practitioner/naturopath - I just do my homework. Wishing you well...Lindsey

I just wanted to quickly check back in as it has now been 8 months since my first post and since I started my boric acid treatment.

I am still BV free after 8 months - YAY!!!

I still insert a boric acid capsule on the last 2 nights of my period but I no longer take the vitamins or probiotics, except for folic acid (but this is more for baby making reasons than anything else.) While I do believe a healthy diet and the probiotic are beneficial to an overall healthy system, I'm not convinced they will cure or help rid the body of BV.

I hope you are all having success with this treatment!

WORKED TEMPORARILY

Hello, I have been dealing with BV for almost 8 months now. I found out I had it because of a fishy smell I noticed (it was my only symptom). I was scared to death because I had never had anything like it before, and I have always been very clean. I have only had 2 sexual partners my whole life, and the BV started with the second partner, which is my current boyfriend (The BV started about 3 months after we started having unprotected sex)...

I went to the doctor and she prescribed me metronidazole... This cured me after the 3rd pill, but only for a short period of time. The BV was back 2 weeks later! I went and got another round of antibiotics, which I hate to take because I also take birth control pills which stop working with antibiotics.... Anyways, the same thing happened again- I got the BV a few days after I was done with the 2nd round of antibiotics. I also used the R------ gel, but that is just a temporary solution and super expensive. After that I decided to look for an alternative cure. I read for hours and hours on online forums to find another method to cure the BV... I tried a lot of them, including the Hydrogen Peroxide douches, taking vitamins (acidophilus) etc. , but the best one has been the Boric Acid pills, which I make myself (I fill the capsules and insert them).

I am so tired of inserting these pills due to the BV, but it is the only thing that seems to work, at least temporarily... And the discharge and smell of them is not pretty either, I hate it. I always have the white discharge from the pills and I hate the smell. I noticed the BV gets worse with my period. If I do not have and I get my period if comes back with it. However, I do not insert any boric acid pills during the days I have my period, just to give my body a rest from the pills. I am concerned about my future if I keep doing this, will it affect my reproductive system? Is there any permanent cure for BV? Please help me, I am so desperate!!! I am only 25 and look forward to having kids in a few years, but I don't know what the consequences will be if I keep inserting these pills... I don't know what to do anymore, it is not only uncomfortable, but also embarrassing : /
