Borax: Unlocking the Health Benefits of a Natural Compound

Herniated Disc, Sciatica

Me and my father had great results using borax. Me for my herniated disc and my father for his sciatica due to osteophytes in his spinal discs.

His seizures of pain became vary rare and less acute. Me too my back pain doesn't bother me any more after six months of using cheap borax. I was limping six months ago due to my herniated disc.

We have been taking 1/4 of teaspoon 5 days per week.

My father did not do or take any other supplement at all, so it must have been the Borax. I feel my back stronger now after some months of taking Borax. I have tried exercises before with very small results. I think the problem can be helped more biochemically and Borax can strongly help. Maybe some other substances like collagen and MSM can also help.

Borax is a strong anti-oxidant or positive ion. It will attack and break double bonds in chemical compounds by causing the electrons to draw to it. Double bonds allow electrons to circulation between multiple carbon atoms so the positive ion can draw electrons from a few atoms away. It has a preference for large chemical compounds. By and large our bodies don't use large compounds (Vitamin K2 is an immediate exception I think of as I say this). So this anti-oxidant is effective in removing chemistry we don't want.

if you you have an ulcer there is a weak spot in the stomach lining. Borax will attack the tissue there and cause pain.

Try drinking more of a diluted solution. This is what happens in the blood stream. If you have an ulcer, that needs to be healed first. I have written an ebook that explains this and more. It is better written and more complete than I can write on the fly on a blog. Amazon kindle, The Healthy Truth by John Taylor.

I have been taking Borax for almost 5 years now. As long as I take with 400mg magnesium at least 4 days a week I am pain free as far as arthritis. I am 55, and need not hormone replacement therapy.

Also bathing in Borax and Epsom Salts is amazing for skin. 3/4 cup of each. I fill bath with water filter shower head when bathing.

A half gallon of water won't hold a half cup of borax but, STILL - you're absolutely right. It's STILL a whole LOT of borax! I use a teaspoon in 500 ml and just squirt a very small amount of that in a glass of water, once or twice a day. I don't know how much that is per day - I doubt it's even a half teaspoon - but even using small amounts of that same bottle to massage my feet a couple times, it will probably last me about a month.

I just started but even that small amount gave me loose stools a couple of times. When I added that little drizzle to water twice in the same day. Or...maybe it was on days I massaged my feet - hadn't thought of that...of course, I don't have any "issues" at the moment, other than letting the plantar warts on my feet come back a bit so I can try a sort of "leave-on" ascorbic acid/coconut oil scrub/mask I've been thinking about on them...

I have plantar tumors in my insteps of both feet. They did fill the hollow of my foot until I started taking Borax orally a few months ago.

I had been taking pics of my feet off and on to see where they were at growth wise. I have already had elimination of pain and can now see the reduction in the size of the tumors. They get soft first then they sort of just melt away. I'm over 2 years into the growth of the tumors so I suspect it could take 3-6 yrs to get rid of them.

Sounds really good.

I had similar results with 1/4 teaspoon of borax in 1 litre of water too. But I was way too infected with parasites so I did the following to really attack the pesky things:

1. Applied tiger balm daily to twice a day to my whole body for many months(close to a year I believe), mixed with 20 to 40 drops of oil of oregano, 20-40 drops of clove oil, 20-40 drops of tea tree oil and 2 tablespoon of olive oil.

2 make another mixture of the above oils added to 1/4 cup of black-seed oil to take orally with a teaspoon once or twice a day, NO Tiger balm and tea tree oil in this mixture please.

3. Took 1 teaspoon to 2 tablespoons of charcoal in water to absorb toxins in my body.

This is really important since the parasites release a whole lot of toxins the body cannot easily remove naturally.

4. Boiled and took a mixture of parasite killing herbs like cloves, wormwood, golden seal root powder and walnut leaves.

Do this until your tongue turns pink, if your systemic infection was really bad. This might take months to years. Don't give up. Additionally, drink green vegetable juices at least once a day.

Started using Borax over 3 months now. Before I started, my health was going down hill fast. My ovaries failed kicking in early menopause over 2 years ago. My thyroid function was way out of whack. Bone loss was occurring quickly along with joints deteriorating. Psoriasis on my scalp worsened and arthritis from it was insane. Cholesterol levels increased, Vitamin D levels plummeted. I had intense muscle tension, weakening muscle strength, hair loss, thinning skin, dry skin, worsening vision, bone spur on my spine, heart palpitations, depression, anxiety, brain fog, extreme fatigue, UTI's. Yeast infections, shortness of breath, blood sugar fluctuations, bleeding gums, chipping teeth, loss of libido, migraines, jaw pain, receding gum line, and I could probably go on. Discovered the use of Borax for treating a UTI and Yeast infection. I refused to take antibiotics to worsen my issue.

Made up some gel capsules with Borax to insert. Within days the problem was gone. I was astonished. To my surprise, I learned that I could possibly treat myself for a lot of the problems I had going on. I had been badly affected by halides like fluoride, bromide and chloride. Gut bacteria too of course. Started taking Borax by the Walter Last method after learning about our deficiencies with Boron due to depleted soil, and water. Used 1 tsp of Borax Powder in one liter of distilled water dissolved in a glass container. Took one tsp daily from that liter 3mg of Boron. Felt it right away. Noticed a decrease in pain in 3 days. Had a herxheimer reaction about a week into it. Backed off and started back when I felt better.

All was good, increased to 2 tsp daily for 6mg daily. Always took my doses with magnesium spaced out. 400mg Oral Glycinate and used Magnesium oil (transdermal magnesium chloride) Felt more pain with the increase, but this time, I started taking a bath in 1/2 cup Borax and 1/2 cup Epsom, daily sometimes twice for 20 min.

These baths were phenomenally healing for me. Made me feel so good afterwards. My skin loved it. It got softer and had a nicer appearance. I also soaked my head and scalp for my psoriasis. This really helped with the plaque build up and itch. Very nice on my hair too. After my bath I moisturized with a mixture of Organic Cold pressed unrefined Virgin Coconut oil and Avocado oil. (Avocados are a source of Boron.) Soon increased my dose to 9mg, 3 tsp spaced out. Still used ample magnesium to help correct the calcium metabolism and took my baths.

About a little over a month went by and I decided to try to drop off my prescription medications to see if I really still needed them. One by one I quit taking them. Asthma inhaler, Asthma Steroid, Nasal Steroid, Anti depressant, Anti Anxiety, Migraine and Allergy. I wasn't even taking much aspirin or ibuprofen. Didn't even seem to miss them. My pain had decreased so much. I was getting my life back after wanting to give up. Fast forward to today, pain has decreased to almost none. Bones feel much stronger as do my joints. My energy has returned, depression has lifted, I'm not as anxious. My thyroid gained correct function, no more heart palpitations, weakness, muscle weakness, or bone pain.

My hair stopped falling out and has returned to growing back in. Skin feels more youthful and not dry. Eye sight seems to be improving still. Libido has increased some, no more gut issues, UTI's or yeast infections so far. My nails are even growing longer and stronger. My bone spur on my spine disappeared, psoriasis improved, cholesterol and vitamin D levels are improved, muscle tension is very seldom. Another thing I did other than getting rid of fluoride and tooth paste with it, I used some of my dissolved dose as part of my oral healthcare. Poured some of the mixture on my toothbrush during brushing every time. In no time, my teeth were not chipping, sensitive or weak. Gums stopped bleeding and I had no mouth sores.

The best part, my teeth are getting whiter all the time! I'm just amazed at the results I have had. I'm continuing with a maintenance dose of 3-6 mg daily and I'm still a fan of my baths and tooth care routine. Borax has been a life saver for me. I will continue to introduce others to it. My whole family are fans too. Even my dog without her case of the itchies. It doesn't always take large doses to be effective. Low and slow is my motto. Don't forget magnesium and other essential vitamins too! Don't give up! If used properly, Borax can be the best thing we can do for our health!

God Bless!

Are you taking adequate magnesium? Borax & Magnesium work in tandem. Boron helps to mobilise calcium, especially inappropriate calcium deposits, but it needs to be ‘orchestrated' with Magnesium. It's worth taking some K2 also. And getting your Vitamin D level checked.

BETTER BUT WITH POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

I started borax water (1/8 tsp to litre of distilled water) 5 days a week about 6 months ago. I had been diagnosed with osteopenea, got rear ended resulting in whiplash that kicked in the arthritis in my neck, the age of menopause, 53, and spending $50 a month on estriol cream, toe nail fungus for as long as I can remember...the list goes on. Not wanting to support big pharma and be dependent on medicines or neck injections, calcium supplements, wanting to live a more natural "get back to basics" lifestyle in the simplest, easiest and cheapest way, I found borax. Which I'm really excited about (cleansing of the pineal gland, BONUS!) Tho I did not notice immediate results as I read others have had, I no long use the estriol cream, my toe nail fungus is almost gone, old crush injuries in both my feet are less painful as well as the arthritis in my neck, my thinking is more clear, I sleep so much better and rarely take melatonin anymore, I'm hopeful it's strengthening my bones, and is it possible borax is responsible for curing my depression?

About a month into using borax water I had a little dermatitis on my ear and eyelid. It did go away. Now it's back on my eyelids and neck and it is bad. I've stopped using the borax water for a week and it is not clearing up. Also, my legs have become very stiff when I wake in the morning (tho not my old injured feet which used to be so painful in the morning) and stiff legs when I sit for any period of time. Is there an explanation for this? I don't want to stop using borax water for any amount of time as I'm putting all hope in it fixing my bones, estrogen, and clarity, but this dermatitis is not fun to deal with. I was adding magnesium drops to the borax water for a bit but ran out and didn't think it was necessary, could that be the supplement I need to get rid of my swollen, dermatitis covered eyelids?

Also, is a borax and coconut oil face cleanser reccomended and shown to increase collagen production?

Hi Art,

I have tried to find the comment from Bill but haven't been successful. I researched what you are saying, and it seems to be correct, although I did see reference to iodine as a possible oxident in some cases(?), which I did not understand. I have also read that taking small amounts of iodine can leave the body in a state of inflammation, so I have backed off taking it for now, until I get a better understanding of how it works. My latest thyroid test had an inflated TSH value which I read on the Stop the Thyroid Madness site can be caused iodine, and is harmless. Since I take the LDN, I thought perhaps my thyroid was normalized and had not been taking any natural thyroid meds regularly, just iodine occasionally, but have stopped the iodine and now take a low dose of Armour. Currently trying the Remag/Remyte solutions to try to build bone mass, along with D/K2. Thinking about adding ashwagandha for sleep, but think I read some reason that I should NOT take it, but can't remember why. Thank you for your always insightful comments and your willingness to share all that you have researched with everyone to help us find solutions to health questions and problems. Then one day, Bill posted how oxidants and antioxidants just cancel each other out, and borax and iodine should NOT be taken together. I have kept them apart from that day on. I often wonder if other supplements I take fall into that same category because I don't know what is an antioxidant and what is an oxidant. I have often thought that a list could be beneficial for this reason. Maybe someone with more knowledge could post something on this. I have always appreciated that information from Bill.

Hello Charity,

Where did I read but to take borax and LI together? Earth Clinic. But not from Ted, I believe it was much respected Bill (apologies if I am wrong) who replied to a post asking about how one can do different protocols at once. I didn't find that particular post, and in fact Ted posts show a few posts where he has asked about both remedies, he never posted a warning. But it makes sense to me, if borax can detox fluoride, bromine, it can likely displace another halide, iodine. So I stopped using borax and only use Iodine. I did find this link, however, with borax referenced as antidote to iodine at bottom of this page. I am interested in others thoughts also.

I looked at a list of 15 foods that have calcium in the link below Teena. I only eat 4 of the 15. Now I could "learn" to eat Tofu and a couple of the other things, but it makes me think a 100 mg tablet of Calcium isn't going to hurt me. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/15-calcium-rich-foods#section16 I could be wrong but without milk, cheese and yogurt for example (which I can't eat, at least until I overcome my acid reflux) I don't think I get even close to a daily RDA. I do eat real butter, but not a lot, just on toast usually. So going back to the borax which is my interest in asking the question, the Lugols Iodine is not something I use at all. I think I get enough in my Seasalt, Lima beans (baby are my fave and when I finish off what I've frozen in jars, I make another pot) eggs, tuna, and cod when I can get it. So that makes me wonder about the Borax and some of my fave foods, which, contain iodine? Unless Lugols (the brand) has something to do with it.

Hello Denise, The only thing recommended not to take with borax, is lugol's iodine. I see you're supplementing calcium, modern diets should have enough calcium without need to supplement, there is concern they contribute to stones, Spurs, and more problematic, is the hardening of arteries. You may research more, always recommend, and find vitamin k2, readily available in grass fed butter, a better way of ensuring the calcium you consume goes to bones and teeth, and not elsewhere.

My new borax protocol, working fabulously..

A pinch of borax in 4 ounces of water.

Taken two times a day. By pinch, I mean if you were to reach into a salt jar and pinch just enough salt to sprinkle on an entree, about that much. (Don't ask me to count the granules!) I spent the past 10 years on and off doing Ted's 1/8 teaspoon of borax in 1 liter of water. However, a pinch 1-2 times a day seems to be the perfect amount for me. I do the first dose on an empty stomach in the morning. 5 days on and take the weekend off. I was inspired by the post on Earth Clinic in the borax cures section to try the pinch after reading where someone wrote about how they generously sprinkled borax on their food every meal. No side effects with this pinch dosage! Previously borax made me feel upset for absolutely no reason like other women have mentioned here and there on the site. With the pinch of borax, after less than a day I feel light on my feet and have no joint pain lingering after strenuous karate training.

What an amazing remedy.

Hello, I want to point out that according to https://www.aqua-calc.com/calculate/weight-to-volume 1000 mg equalts 0.12 tsp or close to 1/8 tsp and not 1/4 tsp as mentioned "¼ teaspoon (940 mg ~ 1,000 mg) of borax" in your article. "The density of borax is 1.73 gram/cm^3. A gram therefore has a volume of 0.58 cm^3. However a teaspoon is 5cm^3. Therefore 1 gram of borax is about a tenth of a teaspoon. Or if you prefer: 1 teaspoon full of borax is about 9 gram" So 1/4 tsp should have approx. 226 mg of boron. Please advise if you agree. Thank you, Christine

Hello, I was wondering if you knew how much elemental boron is in one teaspoon of borax powder? Or how much boron is in 6 grams of borax powder? I'm a little confused about the math. If one teaspoon of borax powder is about 6 grams, then how can you get multiple 3 gram doses of boron in the water concentrate recipe? If you start out with only 6 grams of borax powder, then you probably wouldn't have more than 3 grams of boron in the quart of distilled water "concentrate". Thanks, Tim

RE: BORAX dosages Hi I just watched you video on how to prepare borax solution and cannot make sense of the dosages you have there. Here in front of me I have a precise scale for mg and cup to measure the ml. So 1tsp is about 5ml. One levelled teaspoon of borax is around 4g which is 4000mg. 1L of water is 1000ml which is 200 tsp serving. Thus 1tsp serving is 4000mg/200 = 20mg which is NOT 2mg. for the Ted's formula it is not 110mg but 1000mg. Can you please clarify? I wonder if it will make any difference if I take just 2mg when you actually reported the healing effect at 20mg. Thank you

Uncertain from La.,

Borax is poorly absorbed through the skin. It can possibly help arthritis of the hands by soaking the hands, but the feet are harder to penetrate the skin layers. The little that be absorbed through the hands and feet is not likely to be enough to affect other areas of the body such as the hips or spine. I use the oral route and dose as Ted recommended and it has been nothing short of a miracle for me!

Published Borax Summaries

I read a variety of published information and studies about potential health benefits of boron supplementation and safety of dosage. I found these to be useful summaries:
___

http://www.health-science-spirit.com/borax.htm
Excerpt from Walter Last. The Borax Conspiracy — How the Arthritis Cure has been stopped. 2011.

“Boron is distributed throughout the body with the highest concentration in the parathyroid glands, followed by bones and dental enamel. It is essential for healthy bone and joint function, regulating the absorption and metabolism of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus through its influence on the parathyroid glands. With this boron is for the parathyroids what iodine is for the thyroid.

Boron deficiency causes the parathyroids to become overactive, releasing too much parathyroid hormone which raises the blood level of calcium by releasing calcium from bones and teeth. This then leads to osteoarthritis and other forms of arthritis, osteoporosis and tooth decay. With advancing age high blood levels of calcium lead to calcification of soft tissues causing muscle contractions and stiffness; calcification of endocrine glands, especially the pineal gland and the ovaries; arteriosclerosis, kidney stones, and calcification of the kidneys ultimately leading to kidney failure. Boron deficiency combined with magnesium deficiency is especially damaging to the bones and teeth.

Boron affects the metabolism of steroid hormones, and especially of sex hormones. It increases low testosterone levels in men and oestrogen levels in menopausal women. It also has a role in converting vitamin D to its active form, thus increasing calcium uptake and deposition into bone and teeth rather than causing soft tissue to calcify. Also other beneficial effects have been reported such as improvement of heart problems, vision, psoriasis, balance, memory and cognition.”

Excerpt from Lara Pizzorno, MDiv, MA, LMT. Nothing Boring About Boron. IMCJ Integrative Medicine: A Clinician's Journal. 2015 Aug; 14(4): 35–48.

“Boron has been proven to be an important trace mineral because it (1) is essential for the growth and maintenance of bone; (2) greatly improves wound healing; (3) beneficially impacts the body's use of estrogen, testosterone, and vitamin D; (4) boosts magnesium absorption; (5) reduces levels of inflammatory biomarkers, such as hs-CRP and TNF-α; (6) raises levels of antioxidant enzymes, such as SOD, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase; (7) protects against pesticide-induced oxidative stress and heavy-metal toxicity; (8) improves brain electrical activity, cognitive performance, and short-term memory in elders; (9) influences the formation and activity of key biomolecules, such as SAM-e and NAD+; (10) has demonstrated preventive and therapeutic effects in a number of cancers, such as prostate, cervical, and lung cancers and multiple and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma; and (11) may help ameliorate the adverse effects of traditional chemotherapeutic agents.”

Borax is an compound of boron. Borax (sodium borate) is a natural mineral mined from the earth like salt (sodium chloride), both of which have a long history of being used to preserve food. I read that borax and salt are generally considered safe in small amounts and of similar toxicity (LD50) in large amounts.
California is home to one of the world's largest borax deposits from which 20 Mule Team Borax has been manufactured since 1891. The product is packaged in its pure form, with no chemical additives. The only processing it receives after its removal from the ground is washing, drying and packaging. The product is 99.5 percent pure, with the remaining 1/2 of 1 percent containing naturally occurring trace minerals, with no risk of heavy metals. I read that pharmaceutical grade borax is not noticeably purer or better.

I wash my hands after handling borax powder and am careful not to get it in eyes. To make a borax solution, I add one US teaspoon (leveled-off, average 4620 mg on my Weighmax CT20 milligram scale) of borax powder and 16 US fluid ounces of purified water into a cooking pot. I heat on the stove until the solution boils for one minute, and stir until the borax is fully dissolved. I pour the solution into a labeled glass jar with lid and store in a dark location at room temperature.

4620 mg borax powder * 0.113 (11.3% boron by weight) = 522.1 mg boron, divided by 64 (number of 1/2 US tablespoons in 16 US fluid ounces water) = 8 mg boron

A 1/2 US tablespoon of this solution with 8 mg boron is comparable to the estimated 5–8 mg/day boron intake for people in parts of the world such as Israel and Western Australia which have high boron levels in the soil and water (and very low rates of arthritis at 1% or less). This amount is well under the Upper Tolerable Limit (UL) of 20 mg/day boron, determined unlikely to cause any adverse effects for healthy people in long term use.

This happened to a friend, same illness, she did not die so quickly. She did try to wean off the prednisone but then couldn't breath. She puffed up so much she was barely recognizable, then her bones disintegrated, she lost over a foot in height, all her teeth crumbled away, and she was in constant severe pain for a couple years. Horrible way to live and die.

Am I to understand that BORON is very deficient in our food chain? I guess it is an obvious question and I do wonder why...well I know agriculture is not good pesticides and they do not put minerals back into the soil usually, even sometimes I think organic people do not completely understand how to look after the soil correctly?
