I have had Acid Reflux for years. One quick fix that works for me is pickle juice. I just buy a jar of pickles from the store and when I have a bad acid attack I drink the juice from the jar. About 1/2 cup should work depending on how bad your have it at the time. It's a quick temporary fix but it works very fast. Do not get the "Zesty" pickles or any that have peppers. I made that mistake by not reading that label or looking at the bottom of the jar before I bought them. The peppers make things worse. There seems to be a common trend here with vinegar based products. Remember it's the juice, not the pickles.

Hi, im 22 and have had acid reflux most of my life and have ALWAYS had to watch what i eat. But, after it clears up for a while ill slip and eat something to set it off again. So, tonight, it's 3:30 in the morning and im extremely pissed at myself for having chocolate cake and coffee earlier, first time for both in a few months. haha, now im dealing with what feels like chemical burns at the base of my throat. I've never done anything about it except sip on water while standing for a few hours, yes it's honestly terrible. but ive learned to accept it as a part of life, until now, this defining and sure to be remembered moment in my life.... pickle juice. i read it about fifteen minutes ago, paced around the house for about five, and then with a trembling hand downed 1/2 a cup of vlassic's finest. and now after my stomachs settled (somewhat), i can honestly say i do believe it worked. or at least eased it considerably. finally, something. thank you.

My husband asked me to write to your great website to let others know what works for him. He was prescribed two Omeprazole caps per day for his long-standing acid reflux, but since he started eating one or two whole kosher dill pickles in the evening, he hasn't had to take any Omeprazole caps! I know that others have had success with pickle juice. Thanks for this extremely helpful site!

Just to let everyone know... I didn't think it would help but after suffering for almost 3 hours, I went to the deli in my work complex and they poured me about 4oz of pickle juice and it worked like a charm. I'm definitely going to buy a jar today!

In desperation I came looking at this site, like so many of us. I've not had any digestive problems ever.. and then suddenly this horrible reflux pain that lasted for hours and exhausted me at night. I was afraid to eat. I was afraid to not eat. I had a particularly bad night and then went to the doc and am on omeprazol right now. I've still had symptoms on this medication, which was very discouraging and scary. I tried the acv and it did not work..it made my stomach burn terribly. After alot of burning that wouldn't go away I went to the doc..again..and I am being treated for an ulcer. The burning has stopped, however last night out of the blue I began to have reflux pain again. I tried baking soda and water..which has helped before..and does seem to help the ulcer burn. Last night it seemed to work initially and I fell back to sleep, only to be awoken again from the reflux. I then drank some pickle juice and ate a pickle and the pain was instantly gone. It's tricky trying to balance what will work for the reflux and not aggravate the ulcer, but I just cannot tell you how relieved I am that the pickle juice worked. I know I have very little acid in my stomach right now because of the omeprazol. So, after the antibiotic treatment I plan on weaning myself of the meds slowly and doing the pickle thing. I'm not sure if I should take it with my evening meal or just treat the symptoms of reflux when they happen. I'll just have to try things out. So..give it a try. Keep trying things until you find something that will work. It's scary and exhausting and I felt discouraged from hearing stories of things that never worked for people. But today I feel much more positive. I just have to take this one day at a time. Thank you for the site and the ideas.

Like a couple of previous posters, my GERD manifests itself as a sore throat if I talk a lot and also chest pain. I've done the emergency trip to the hospital, thinking I was having a heart attack, to be told after an ECG that my heart seemed perfectly healthy. My chest pain also occurs during the day after eating when I exercise. Unfortunately, as I'm a PE teacher, this is frequent and I've just sort of learned to live with it. I've identified the main foods that trigger it and bread is a major culprit here.

I love pickles but stopped eating them a few years ago (pre GERD) because I was told that the pickle juice was bad for me. So now I have an excuse to go back to something I love eating and possibly get relief for this debilitating condition. I'll tell you if it works.

I completly understand what you mean by the whole "pacing for a couple of hours just drinking water" as im actually doing right now as my reflux is literally burning my throat up in flames. I took a little sip of pickle juice and it settled a little so im just gonna take my happy butt to the refrigerator and drink some more.

I was miserable with acid reflux especially more so now then ever before since I am pregnant. It seems everything no matter what it is causes the acid to come and scares me half to death just to eat anything at all. So, I came across this site and read all the comments from all the other people. I was seriously skeptical and scared to try the pickle juice idea because pickles have been causing me acid indigestion too. However, I poured a little in a cup and just drank it down. I'd say within a minute I didn't have the acid backing up into my throat and within about ten to fifteen minutes I was acid free. I still had tenderness in my stomach from the acid being there but was able to go to sleep finally and was no longer miserable. Thank you very much for this site.

Well today was a bad day for me, I don't usually suffer from any type of acid reflux, however today it started around 1pm. After taking 6 antacids and drinking hot water, and then eating bread, I still had this awful burning sensation in my throat. I decided to give the internet a try and typed in acid reflux natural remedies. This is how I came to find your site. I looked through and found you had a pickle juice remedy. Being a pickle lover I found this humerous as i have never thought to drink the juice. after four and a half hours of suffering I decided to go up to the fridge (I am at work, and yes I even keep my own pickle jar at work) and pour myself a glass of pickle juice. It took me about 3 minutes to muster the courage to drink it but i did (6 oz), and AWESOME it worked so well, I even grabbed 2 pickles about 5 minutes later to eat. Thank you for having this posted.

Acid reflex and pickle juice.

It was the oddest thing - I have had acid reflex from hypothyroidism for years. As most of the readers here I tried everything OTC and Rx to help and most of the time it did nothing - or at times created more symptoms I chose not do have.

Oddly - in the last few months - I stummbled across in my reading that sea salt and ACV help adrenal fatigue. Knowing I had this I realized I was craving salt to no end and pickle juice seemed to be what I wanted more than anything. I recall way back my father drinking straight out of the pickle jar and as a kid I was horrified of the thought of him doing that.

Not only are my adrenals being repaired - but the horrible acid reflex will dissappear almost immediately when I get a bout of it. I love Valasic garlic pickles and that is what I mostly have in the house.

This morning - and it sounds gross - but I had acid so bad that I convinced myself to slam a couple of gulps down and again at 5am - GONE again.

Thanks earth clinic for helping me overcome this horrible acid and reminding that Daddy knows best!

Thank you so much for this remedy. My husband is always suffering from acid reflux and the OTC stuff doesn't seem to be working anymore. I just thought there had to be a natural way to cure it so I typed it in and I found your site. The pickle juice remedy did the trick and made him really happy because he loves pickle juice. I am not so happy about the smell but it makes me happy that he feels better.

He took about two swallows of the juice and within 3 minutes the acid reflux was gone.

Thank you so much!

Barbara

OMG, I had an acid reflex attack about an hour and a half ago and thought I was seriously gonna die. Im 26 and have only had this happen to me once befort; when I was pregant with my oldest child. I noticed it after taking my daily dose of zoloft. I hurried and got a drink of water and that never worked so I tried a glass of milk and still no relieve. I ran to the store and grabbed a bottle of Malox and it just made me burp and vomit; it was horrible. After having enuff and not wanting to go to the ER I looked online and came across this. Down the hatch and im still eating the pickles. It is really working,so far so good; I just hope it stays gone. Thank you! I just hope it stays gone; we'll keep our fingers crossed.

The pickle juice contains hydrochloric acid. You can buy hydrochloric acid pills at health food stores. I beleive it's called HCL. I ALWAYS HAVE SOME HANDY. I have used it for hangovers too.

About a month ago, after having been on a binge of diet cokes, coffee and tea with practically no water and a weekend of being outside in extreme heat and eating fatty food, I began to feel little flutters in my chest. A couple of days later, I thought I was having a heart attack and called 911. Went to er where my bp was slightly elevated but no evidence of heart disease or damage. I remembered hearing a woman tell me she had experienced something similar and it turned out to be acid reflux. I have never had the typical heartburn symptoms. Mine exhibited itself as a severe pain in my upper chest just below the hollow of my throat that went thru to my back and up into my jaw. I tried every otc solution and finally found Gaviscon which was the only thing that sort of gave me relief. I began to research the net and drastically changed my diet. The painful episodes were happening three and four times a day. It became so debilitating that I finally went to see an internist. For me going to a dr is a last resort only. My abdomen was swollen and very tender. She told me the same about diet and put me on Nexium. I agreed to take it for one month only. In the meantime, I tried the apple cider vinegar and just couldn't get it down. Tried the ACV supplements and no real results. When one episode took 4 gaviscon to just sort of calm it, I decided to try the pickle juice. I started it on the Friday before the arrival of Hurricane Ike and drank some juice off and on all day Saturday. By Sunday I was down to only a small episode daily that one Gaviscon could stop. In just three days, the swelling and tenderness in my abdomen was gone. I don't know if it was the diet, Nexium or pickle juice or a combination of all three but I know that I won't stop with the pj. I can't eat enough pickles to keep up with the juice so my daughter saves the juice off her pickles for me. Actually I'm becoming a pj conniseur. Some are too spicy, some too salty. I have my definite favorites. Sometimes I drink before I eat and sometimes after. I just sort of have a feel now for when I need to drink it. If nothing else has helped you, give this a try and give it a few days to work. You might be gratefully surprised.

I have never been diagnosed with gerd or acid reflux but every now and then after a nice big plate of pasta, it starts burning. Saw this post, ate a couple pickles, sucked down some juice and wow! Instant relief.... Goodnight and thank you!

I have had acid reflux for eight years. The last four years hasn't been as bad as the first. I used to get acid reflux every other day and it was painful and terrible, I couldn't breathe. I currently take Absorb Aid (a natural aid from plant enzymes) for my acid reflux and Acidophilus (once again natural, a dietary supplement) . When I first started taking them years ago, it got rid of the pain right away, but as the years went on, it seemed to help less -- still effective, but not as much as when I first started. I only get acid reflux about once or twice a month normally when I take my other Acid Reflux aids.

I stumbled onto this website this evening in search for other remedies and came upon Pickle Juice. I don't have pickles in my fridge usually, but last week I bought two small jars of Dill Pickles. Good thing I did. I ran out of the normal acid reflux stuff I take tonight and didn't know what to do. Some of the time drinking a lot of water helps, but not tonight.

I tried about 3/4 cup of Pickle Juice and it helped. I was quite surprised. It was a gross taste going down my throat, but it caused my acid reflux to go away. I would recommend pickle juice as a temporary fix to acid reflux.

I tried a lot fo things that didn't work. When my acid reflux was at its worst, I wouldn't have even dreamed of pickles, let alone the juice. It seemed like it would be the worst thing for acid reflux. Out of desperation, I made a leap of faith. I am so glad I did. The acid reflux is gone. I buy a jar of kosher dills once every two weeks, and I finish it off, juice and all.

Here it is 12:40 a.m. And I am trying to get my heartburn under control. I agree with the post from Marietta, GA. The pickle juice has soothed the heart burn; however, I am hoping it stays this way and I can get some sleep!

I decided as a last resort to try pickle juice. Nothing else was working. I tried precriptions, over the counter, etc.... Nothing worked. It got so bad that even standing the acid was coming up. This was happenning nearly every day. I got deathly afraid to eat, or, not to eat. I'd eat just to appease my stomach. It didn't work. I tried dill pickels, and, started drinking the juice. It took time to help. At first, if felt like, indeed, there was a war going on inside me.
Now, the acid is way down, and, I am feeling much better. I'm starting to sleep better, and, my acid attacks are way down. I enjoyed all beef hot dogs for dinner tonight.
Brocoli no longer makes me sick.
I say AYE to dill pickles, and, the pickle juice. I'm drinking it on a regular basis. Just started this cure a few days ago, and, each day I have been feeling better.
Maybe not instant, but, It feels MUCH better..

I also deeply appreciate finding something that will help without having to buy a book. The pickle juice worked just great! I have had a hiatus hernia for several years and have been tking that purple pill that the doctors so like. However after taking it for two years straight and having a severe attack of diverticulitus a week ago, the purple pill seemed to even agrevate the acid coming up. For three days the feeling of nausea and the burning acid in my throat prevailed. I was desparate, so I went on line and found this site. Whow! What a blessing. I tried the apple cider vinagar but that burned my throat going down. Later that day I tried the pickle juice. It did not burn my throat though I did wonder if it would help for there seemed to be a battle in my stomach. However, I slept for the first time for an entire night in at least a five year period. It was wonderful. I think I am going to stick with the pickle juice. Thanks. MAM
