I had been diagnosed with BV in October by my gyno, she gave me antibiotics and it went away for about 1.5 months. I was tested for all STDs which all came back negative, which was expected but good to know. Almost two months later, It came back but worse. My only symptoms were the terrible odor and slightly more discharge. Honestly the only change in my life was moving and I switched laundry detergent/dryer sheets. I've never had a problem before. I've been with my bf over three years, so it had to be that small change that caused it. I was trying to avoid going to the dr again at all costs so I googled away. I found this site and decided to try it. I'm still not done with the process, but here's what I've tried so far:
Day 1: 1/2 a cup 3% hydrogen peroxide mixed with 1/2 a cup of bottled water placed in a clean cup. I put a tampon still in the applicator in the cup to soak up the solution. Left that in the cup for maybe 10-15 minutes to soak it up. I found this sort of hard to insert, I had to push it half way out of the applicator first, then insert it that way. I left the tampon in for half an hour. When I took it out there was a small amount of yellow on the tampon, but I felt dryer. The smell went away until the next day, it came back but less strong. I had slight itching afterwards I'm guessing due to it being dried out. That went away shortly after.
Day 2: I tried the same exact method. Similar results, the smell went away, but it came back the next day not as strong, so it seems to be working.
Day 3: I bought yogurt and had a small amount, but I couldn't stand it so I bought 1 billion probiotic cultures, meant for vaginal health. This one is formulated so it's not refrigerated and is made so it doesn't have to be inserted vaginally, the capsules survive the stomach acid and get the good bacteria where it needs to go. I take one a day starting today. It says it takes about 7 days for it to populate your vagina so take these as early as possible. I decided to skip the tampon method because it seemed to be a temporary fix or I was just impatient idk. I decided to take a water bottle because I was too embarrassed or too lazy to buy a douche at the store, put the same mixture in the water bottle and use it as a douche in the shower. I have never in my life douched so it was a learning experience. It was hard to do it this way, so I might have to suck it up and buy a douche for easiness. I layed down, tilted my hips up, and inserted the bottle slightly inside and let it flow into me, I didn't squeeze the bottle. I let it stay in there for like 30 seconds and pushed it out. You could tell easily whatever came out smelled really bad, so the tampon wasn't getting it all. I repeated this until the mixture was gone. The douche washes it out unlike the tampon. My area was itchy for a little while, but all traces of the smell were gone even the next day. I smelled perfectly normal. Hallelujah.
Day 4: I didn't want to try anything this day vaginally because I was worried I was going to irritate my vagina too much and the smell was still gone at the end of the day, so I skipped treatment. I did have sex with my bf which might have been a mistake because it made me bleed. This has happened to me before during sex due to too much dryness, so I don't know if it was because of the HP making me too dry or if it's because my period is supposed to start in less than a week. Idk. My bf did mention that I didn't smell and I was back to normal, so that's awesome. He's been a lending ear for all of this and knows how much it bothers me, even though he doesn't mind either way.
Day 5: I'm having leftover bloody discharge but not much. I've honestly never had a good sense of smell so I can't tell if my discharge smells like blood or if the odor is back. It doesn't smell fishy, but it does have an off smell. So I'm going to douche again tonight and see where I'm at tomorrow. I'm just nervous that I'm irritating my vagina.
SO im not completely done but I can definitely tell this is helping. If I didn't have sex last night I would know if the smell came back today or not, so try to avoid sex at all costs, it could reinfect you and it interferes with your healing process. It pretty much made me unsure if it worked so I have to wait even longer to know.
I recommend the douching method honestly, the tampon works, but I think it would take longer. Douching gets all areas inside instead of what's touching the tampon. Just don't be like me and be too embarrassed to buy a douche in the store, because that ish was hard. I'm gunna head out and buy one today.
Also, I bought a multivitamin because I've read so many comments that talk about vitamin D3 and folic acid for fighting infections. Anything is better than nothing if you're unsure what to buy. So try to start these right off the bat too. Also eat probiotic yogurt every day if you like, but I've read to avoid flavored ones because sugar will make it worse. I honestly haven't changed my diet at all, but some people might need to.
Like I said I'm not done with my treatment completely but overall I'm happy, I've found something that is seeming to get rid of it. Idk if it's the HP alone, but I've read the combo of HP, vitamins, and probiotics is way more successful. They help you get the good stuff back in there to fight off the bad stuff and prevent the bad stuff from coming back. I'll try to remember to check back in. I'm very glad I tried this!
Hydrogen Peroxide

Peroxide for BV
OK ladies, if your going to try this make ABSOLUTELY sure you mix the peroxide with water! My husband heard of this method and convinced me to try it because we were desperate, but he thought we were supposed to use plain peroxide, big no no, after 45 minuets of agonizing pain, and multiple showers later, I realised it worked!!!! This works wonders, it was gone within a day or two!!!!
Hydrogen Peroxide

OMG! Finally a cure that works and inexpensive. I am 49 years old and recently had an D & C due to heavy menstrual bleeding. After one month, I was diagnosed with BV. I had a clear discharge, but odorless. And had to wear panty liners for months. My OB/GYNprescribed antibiotics, Metronidazole, which was awful. Didnt work, then my OB/GYN prescribed some kind of gel that I couldn't afford. Well long story, short I came across this wesite and was reading several females comments; and decided to give it a try. I was very spectical at first, but went all in. I did the 50/50 hp douche and Omg!!! Well ladies I must say results instantly!! Today is my 1st day and so far five hours in. I have not had any discharge. I was having a discharge every 10 to 15 minutes apart. So far so gd and I will repeat this process for two more days and keep you posted. Thank God for my results which are very positive. This remedy is a must try. I'm crying whoo hoo, full of joy rt now.
Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide for bacterial vaginosis - I really recommend this method.
Antibiotics - work, but makes you feel sick and I had a recurrence shortly after.
Probiotics (probably), but not immediately. I didn't have the patience to wait.
Some gels especially for BV - only some instant relieve of the symptoms - further not much change.
I wish I would have known about Hydrogen Peroxide from the start, but unfortunatelly you have to google a lot to find out such a simple cure. After only 3 days of treatment, as described here, and BV is completely gone. Now back to happy and confident - ME :)

I used 30 ml 3% peroxide 2x per day for 7 days. I used a 30 ml sterile syringe, as it kept the peroxide in me better. I left it in for 15 min each time. Drained. Directly followed by a frozen kefir + probiotic insert. I'm cured. And so grateful. I tried it all before. This even FEELS different. I will take the probiotics forever too.
Hydrogen Peroxide

I've just recently had BV and its my first time, have never felt so uncomfortable and mortified. My doctor prescribed me Metronidazole yesterday and once my chemist told me it would make me feel sick and I read online about how awful it makes people feel I decided against it. I have a horrific phobia of vomiting and decided to try anything else. When I heard about hydrogen peroxide I was sceptical but I was so uncomfortable and it seemed to have the best results. Couldn't find any form of douche products to buy so I used the tampon option. I poured two bottle caps full of 3% hydrogen peroxide and two bottle caps of boiled bottled water into a glass, I then place a tampon in and waited until it was lukewarm. I felt instant relief after having it in me around 10-15 mins. I then had a bath and put some natural Greek yogurt on afterwards. I also bought some folic acid, vitamin D and vitamin C supplements. Seems to be working wonders so far.

I am so grateful for this website and for all the ladies who have shared. Without this website I would be still taking antibiotics in burning pain. In Aug. I was misdiagnosed with a yeast infection due to discharge without an odor. Please tell your doctors to always send samples to the lab! Because they don't always. Five weeks later after a proper lab test it came back gardenella. Eight months of medication, pain and tears without relief.
I was so scared to put peroxide inside of my burning red vag but I did it anyway.omg....it works. I started very slow, like 2 tablespoons to a cup of distilled h20. Did not burn at all. It's 5 days later and I'm using 50/50 peroxide to distilled h2o and I feel so much better. Don't be afraid to use this method. I'm also taking golden seal, garlic, vit D, folic acid and olive leaf extract. These have been nine dark months and I can't get it out of my mind that there are only two antibiotics that really don't work available but if your a man with erectile dysfunction there are dozens of drugs. You gotta laugh so you don't cry.

This is so great. I've had BV off and on for the past...years and years really but only in the past few months have I gotten serious about figuring out a solution that does not include antibiotics. I did lots of things before the hydrogen peroxide douche:
8 glasses of water/day (at least)
no fast food/processed food (meals from scratch)
greek yogurt (probiotics)
...At this point, things started to get better. But the itchiness and slight odor lingered.
1 part hydrogen peroxide to 3 parts water in a douche 1-2x per week
I guess I see this as an ongoing solution - not a permanent fix. I'm married and sex is a regular part of my life - sperm is also one of the triggers for my BV. Like other women, the relief was almost instant. Compared to regular doses of antibiotics, I'm totally good with something I can manage without medical help.
Hydrogen Peroxide

I am so excited. I have suffered with BV my entire life on and off. Recently remarried and had to do something. After using Hydrogen peroxide for a mouthwash, I wondered could it be used for the vagina. I searched online and stumbled across this website. Used for the first time last night. I diluted mine half water and half peroxide. The itch on the outer parts stopped almost immediately and slept peacefully for the first time in many nights. Did another rinse this morning and will be doing the tampon method this afternoon. Excited to finally feel so good. Nothing else has worked so far. Thanks for all the comments and for sharing.
Everything in this post is great except that the VAGINA IS SUPPOSED TO BE ACIDIC. LIKE A TOMATO. It's when it becomes alkaline that the bad bacteria thrive. You want your vagina to be slightly acidic which is why they say that boric acid or vitamin c will help keep bv at bay.
Hydrogen Peroxide
I did the same. I used a pearl tampon (plastic applicator), leave tampon in applicator, put in the mix (I used a cup so tampon could stand up). soaked in under a minute, slid in just fine.
Hydrogen Peroxide

I was starting to get so depressed with recurring BV. It started in 2012, and like others, I kept trying metro gel and it kept coming back. I'm very aware of how I smell and the status of things down there, so when I would notice a hint of that BV smell returning I would cry! I could never feel clean, and it was so embarrassing. That's when I found this site and started using the hydrogen peroxide. It completely takes away the odor and discharge. Mostly after one application for me! I will never take another antibiotic for this, and I'm so glad I have this cure in my arsenal. It works.
Hydrogen Peroxide

It works! I did it twice a day for 5 days .. Douched equal parts hydrogen peroxide and water. Once in the morning and at night. While squeezing the solution up there... I would squeeze my muscles and hold it in for at least 5 mins... So not only is the BV being cured ... I'm working my vag muscles ... LOLOL

This is a link to the research behind BV and Hydrogen Peroxide. I wouldn't do anything different than the procedures used in the research due to safety precautions.
Hydrogen Peroxide
Hey ladies! Just two friendly comments & advice.:
1. If you want to take folic acid, make SURE it is called Folate and NOT Folic Acid. My Obstetrician Specialist told me in my first appt. that a large enough percent of our population has a mutation which prevents the body from metabolizing/absorbing Folic Acid (which is the artificial form of Folate).
2. After reading your most recent reviews, I cannot wait to try the 50/50 Hydrogen Peroxide & water! I was diagnosed by my OB yesterday with a BI. My advice...speak up to your Dr. They do their best to help you, but you must be your own advocate. Most great Dr.'s will appreciate the partnership in helping them care for you. I had been struggling with what I thought was a yeast infection for MONTHS and had tried EVERYTHING under the sun! Both over the counter and holistically; the only immediate/sustained relief from symptoms was putting a completely peeled & sliced organic garlic clove up my hoo-haa. I confess that over time (and according to my sweet but honest husband) it made my whole body smell like a walking garlic knot ha! However because of the relief it brought, I would totally do it again.
Anyway....I had had 2 miscarriages and one D&C. At my post op follow up appt, and after doing lots of research, I told my OB the problem I was having and asked her..."Could my symptoms be caused by a bacterial infection?" She said yes it could since both being pregnant and also having the d&c are both possible causes. She looked at a swab under the microscope and said, wow, yes you poor thing, you definitely have a bi. She prescribed antibiotics & Diflucan...but when I groaned at her at the option of antibiotics, and asked if there is any other way, she whispered to me about this 50/50 peroxide treatment. She said she had seen a cure in a co-worker and also had read the studies on it but that some of the other Dr.'s in the practice thought she was crazy. I LOATHE antibiotics even though I understand they are sometimes necessary. Sooooo hats off to my Dr. for being open to a natural treatment with studies to back it up!!!!!
Hydrogen Peroxide

Well to simplify this question, I have had BV for som 2 or 3 years but nothing has worked as good as huydrogen peróxide. I use a 30ml of hydrogen/water mix insert on e a douch while scared on toilet. i really don't think it's safe to keep it in there for all that time unless your taking a tub bath with apple cider vinegar..it has worked well in ridding my BV with the 30ml of hydrogen/water mix like a douch. It works in one day. I use it 2wice in one day and it's gone. Never had to do a 2 day routine.
Hydrogen Peroxide

I have been suffering with BV for three years now. I love this site because I know I am not alone. I have been researching for remedies for about 2 years. I have spent so much money on pantie liners that it's on real. I have read that the pills and cream the doctored give you do not work, but I found that hydrogen peroxide is temporary solution for BV. I soak a tampon in 50% H.P. And 50% water for about 2-5 minutes. Then I insert it for 30 MINUTES (Do not do longer) Then right when I take it out NO discharge! NO Odor! I feel normal! I have been increasing the amount of H.P. I use. But that works for me, everyone is diffrent. I want to find a permanent cure with H.P. If anybody knows one please comment!!!!! Xoxxo I hope that helpEd and you are not alone

I am happy to report that H202 has helped me to finally get rid of my BV symptoms. I can't believe the smell was gone right after the first time I used it.
I was told to mix 50% Peroxide with 50% distilled/bottled water in a douche bottle. I was very skeptical as to whether or not this would work considering everything else I have tried either didn't work at all or only for a few days at best. I told myself what do I have to lose but these horribly embarrassing symptoms that won't go away.
So after work a couple days ago I stopped at the dollar store and purchased a large bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide & 2 packages of vinegar & water douche. I then went home to give a try.
When I got home I grabbed a bottle of water, emptied the contents of a new vinegar & water douche bottle and replaced it with a mixture of 50% Peroxide 50% water.
Immediately after I used the mixture the smell just vanished and my other symptoms started to subside. I was in a complete state of shock. I thought to myself, "Wow, to think something I kept under my sink as a medicinal staple could have cured me of this nightmare a long time ago."
All the money, antibiotics and over the counter treatments that didn't work that could have been avoided. Not to mention all the embarrassment from the smell you can't hide and everyone notices.
I am only two days into my first and hopefully last treatment and things are going well so far. By next week I am hoping to be 100% BV free. To make sure that happens, I was told to soak a tampon in plain yogurt and insert it in my vaginal area for 2-3 hours daily for 3-5 days to help replace the good bacteria in my vaginal area. I am to do this in conjunction with the peroxide & water mixture 2 times daily.
Once all the symptoms are gone to ensure it won't return I should and to continue with either an oral probiotic daily or yogurt to help maintain a healthy Vaginal PH Balance.
I have to say for the first time in a very long time, I'm starting to feel like myself again. Who knew after all the time, money and energy looking for relief that it could be so simple.

Been with the same partner for 7 years and BV is a frequent problem. Gets tiring running to the GYN for creams and pills. Finding this forum has saved my life! I know better than to mess around with douching so I opted for the hydrogen peroxide soaked tampon that I keep in for about an hour. The results were amazing and more rapid than cream the doctors prescribed. The odor had been eliminated as well as the "liquidy" discharge. I feel so refreshed and have not had to repeat the process. If you suffer from frequent BV, this is a must try!!!!

After placing an IUD (spirale) I encountered for the first time bacterial vaginosis. I went to the shame of questions from my docter if I had more sexual contacts. Since I am a stewardess, I felt the prejudgments heavy. Feeling embarassed and ashamed. Thank God for internet. I had to find out myself that the slimy substance with ammoniak smell is a BV! With this again I went to the doctor, who prescribed me metronidazole. This helped, so I was relieqved. Then it came back..... It ruined my self esteem. With my husband no more sex, I was too insecure. Then I found the hydrogen peroxide cure in utter dispair. Yesterday I started. First I had to translate the product in dutch to make sure I found the right cure. That was easy. I mixed half water half h2o2 and some betaine. The water in the vaginal douche I left in for 5 minutes. No more slimy smelly discharge. Overnight I left in a tampon with yoghurt, since I did not have yet the aciduphilis. I used 2x2 folic acid. This morning again took a vaginal h2o2/wat douche. Do noteven have to use pantyliner. Finally dry! I feel sorry for the older generation, who had to battle through this BV without internet. Thanks to these ladies and now altogether I feel we can beat this. You all helped me so much! A grateful, one man minded stewardess.
