I had been diagnosed with BV in October by my gyno, she gave me antibiotics and it went away for about 1.5 months. I was tested for all STDs which all came back negative, which was expected but good to know. Almost two months later, It came back but worse. My only symptoms were the terrible odor and slightly more discharge. Honestly the only change in my life was moving and I switched laundry detergent/dryer sheets. I've never had a problem before. I've been with my bf over three years, so it had to be that small change that caused it. I was trying to avoid going to the dr again at all costs so I googled away. I found this site and decided to try it. I'm still not done with the process, but here's what I've tried so far:

Day 1: 1/2 a cup 3% hydrogen peroxide mixed with 1/2 a cup of bottled water placed in a clean cup. I put a tampon still in the applicator in the cup to soak up the solution. Left that in the cup for maybe 10-15 minutes to soak it up. I found this sort of hard to insert, I had to push it half way out of the applicator first, then insert it that way. I left the tampon in for half an hour. When I took it out there was a small amount of yellow on the tampon, but I felt dryer. The smell went away until the next day, it came back but less strong. I had slight itching afterwards I'm guessing due to it being dried out. That went away shortly after.

Day 2: I tried the same exact method. Similar results, the smell went away, but it came back the next day not as strong, so it seems to be working.

Day 3: I bought yogurt and had a small amount, but I couldn't stand it so I bought 1 billion probiotic cultures, meant for vaginal health. This one is formulated so it's not refrigerated and is made so it doesn't have to be inserted vaginally, the capsules survive the stomach acid and get the good bacteria where it needs to go. I take one a day starting today. It says it takes about 7 days for it to populate your vagina so take these as early as possible. I decided to skip the tampon method because it seemed to be a temporary fix or I was just impatient idk. I decided to take a water bottle because I was too embarrassed or too lazy to buy a douche at the store, put the same mixture in the water bottle and use it as a douche in the shower. I have never in my life douched so it was a learning experience. It was hard to do it this way, so I might have to suck it up and buy a douche for easiness. I layed down, tilted my hips up, and inserted the bottle slightly inside and let it flow into me, I didn't squeeze the bottle. I let it stay in there for like 30 seconds and pushed it out. You could tell easily whatever came out smelled really bad, so the tampon wasn't getting it all. I repeated this until the mixture was gone. The douche washes it out unlike the tampon. My area was itchy for a little while, but all traces of the smell were gone even the next day. I smelled perfectly normal. Hallelujah.

Day 4: I didn't want to try anything this day vaginally because I was worried I was going to irritate my vagina too much and the smell was still gone at the end of the day, so I skipped treatment. I did have sex with my bf which might have been a mistake because it made me bleed. This has happened to me before during sex due to too much dryness, so I don't know if it was because of the HP making me too dry or if it's because my period is supposed to start in less than a week. Idk. My bf did mention that I didn't smell and I was back to normal, so that's awesome. He's been a lending ear for all of this and knows how much it bothers me, even though he doesn't mind either way.

Day 5: I'm having leftover bloody discharge but not much. I've honestly never had a good sense of smell so I can't tell if my discharge smells like blood or if the odor is back. It doesn't smell fishy, but it does have an off smell. So I'm going to douche again tonight and see where I'm at tomorrow. I'm just nervous that I'm irritating my vagina.

SO im not completely done but I can definitely tell this is helping. If I didn't have sex last night I would know if the smell came back today or not, so try to avoid sex at all costs, it could reinfect you and it interferes with your healing process. It pretty much made me unsure if it worked so I have to wait even longer to know.

I recommend the douching method honestly, the tampon works, but I think it would take longer. Douching gets all areas inside instead of what's touching the tampon. Just don't be like me and be too embarrassed to buy a douche in the store, because that ish was hard. I'm gunna head out and buy one today.

Also, I bought a multivitamin because I've read so many comments that talk about vitamin D3 and folic acid for fighting infections. Anything is better than nothing if you're unsure what to buy. So try to start these right off the bat too. Also eat probiotic yogurt every day if you like, but I've read to avoid flavored ones because sugar will make it worse. I honestly haven't changed my diet at all, but some people might need to.

Like I said I'm not done with my treatment completely but overall I'm happy, I've found something that is seeming to get rid of it. Idk if it's the HP alone, but I've read the combo of HP, vitamins, and probiotics is way more successful. They help you get the good stuff back in there to fight off the bad stuff and prevent the bad stuff from coming back. I'll try to remember to check back in. I'm very glad I tried this!

I just tried the peroxide method about 15 minutes ago. I feel a difference already, meaning I feel much cleaner down there. I poured 1oz of hydrogen peroxide in a douche bottle, (one already had from the beauty supply store) got in the tub laid on my back and inserted the bottle and squeezed it in. I didn't squeeze the full amount in because since this is a new method to me, I'm testing it out. I squeezed about 3 or four pumps into my vagina, I laid down for about a minute, then I sat up and let it run out, it came out like a foamy bubbly substance, but I think that's a good thing. I didn't dilute it with water because I want to be sure its working but I did sit in a small tub of water afterwards and took some probiotic pills. It does burn a little bit but it's not unbearable. I will do this again tomorrow and I may dilute with water this time, just to make sure my natural floral is not being dried out, that wouldn't be good for intimacy. You can post me if you have anymore questions.

I saw on this site that hydrogen peroxide was helping a lot of women combat vaginosis and I have had it off and on for about a month and a half to two months and it has been the most miserable time of my life. So, I was desperate for any kind of cure. I saw that people were using a half and half mixture of peroxide to water and using that as a douche. I bought a vinegar and water douche from target, emptied out the contents, filled it halfway with water and the other half with peroxide. I did this for three nights straight, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Today is Friday and this is the first time I'm starting to get that awful, fishy smelling discharge again. The smell isn't nearly as strong as it used to be nor is the discharge amount nearly as much as it used to be, but it is still unfortunately still present. Maybe I need to douche for more than three consecutive days? I am going to leave it alone during the weekend and see if anything progresses on it's own. I might have to try this again on Monday and go for an entire week.

I have been suffering with BV for three years now. I love this site because I know I am not alone. I have been researching for remedies for about 2 years. I have spent so much money on pantie liners that it's on real. I have read that the pills and cream the doctored give you do not work, but I found that hydrogen peroxide is temporary solution for BV. I soak a tampon in 50% H.P. And 50% water for about 2-5 minutes. Then I insert it for 30 MINUTES (Do not do longer) Then right when I take it out NO discharge! NO Odor! I feel normal! I have been increasing the amount of H.P. I use. But that works for me, everyone is diffrent. I want to find a permanent cure with H.P. If anybody knows one please comment!!!!! Xoxxo I hope that helpEd and you are not alone

As a woman the last thing you want to do is have any vaginal issues. Especially, ones that you have no control over. I mean I know how to wipe a shower I don't use scented soap. I have one sexually active partner and we used protection. So why do I keep getting bacterial vaginosis? I have contributed a lot of different theories, I feel mainly that I don't diet properly. After waiting this website I finally realized that I was not alone. No one understand what it feels like to be a woman and have BV. But I am so glad to report that this really really works!!! I just did my first does of three quarters of the hydrogen peroxide and the rest water and ladies I'm so proud to report that immediately after my first use I have no smell!!! It's been approximately 4 hours and I have not had any discharge at all. After battling with this issue for almost 10 years I really feel confident that this will work. Just like all of the other ladies I have been to the doctor I've had culture samples done, I've used metro gel as well as the flaglyn pills. The moment I have any sexual activity that BV will flare up. I am going to report on this for the next few days because I will be doing this journey with you guys. This cure if it completely works would be the best thing I've ever had to experience and its cost effective. To have to go to the doctor every time this happens and if you're like me you get this more than four times a year and no doctor can ever give you a final cure or a reason why. It's definitely disturbing. My plans like I said to do this for the next few days and I will definitely report to you ladies and let you know my progress good luck ladies!

I have been struggling with this for years, hiding it from my boyfriend, I would always get sick from the medicine they gave me. I decided to do the peroxide, no more discharge no more odor, although recently I have been having some slight itching. I would love to eat yogurt but I am lactose, I do take vitamins. Hopefully I am good.

After placing an IUD (spirale) I encountered for the first time bacterial vaginosis. I went to the shame of questions from my docter if I had more sexual contacts. Since I am a stewardess, I felt the prejudgments heavy. Feeling embarassed and ashamed. Thank God for internet. I had to find out myself that the slimy substance with ammoniak smell is a BV! With this again I went to the doctor, who prescribed me metronidazole. This helped, so I was relieqved. Then it came back..... It ruined my self esteem. With my husband no more sex, I was too insecure. Then I found the hydrogen peroxide cure in utter dispair. Yesterday I started. First I had to translate the product in dutch to make sure I found the right cure. That was easy. I mixed half water half h2o2 and some betaine. The water in the vaginal douche I left in for 5 minutes. No more slimy smelly discharge. Overnight I left in a tampon with yoghurt, since I did not have yet the aciduphilis. I used 2x2 folic acid. This morning again took a vaginal h2o2/wat douche. Do noteven have to use pantyliner. Finally dry! I feel sorry for the older generation, who had to battle through this BV without internet. Thanks to these ladies and now altogether I feel we can beat this. You all helped me so much! A grateful, one man minded stewardess.

Did roughly 1 cup water and 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide in a soda bottle to douche. Seemed to work pretty well, smell definitely improved, boyfriend said it was completely gone but I could still notice a little upon rubbing it a little between my fingers. (TMI?) Didn't do it again for another day and a half until (today) I spent a hot day out wearing undies that weren't 100% cotton. No good. So I came back and the smell was back, but slightly different. Fishy but almost garlicky? Could be from eating garlic too? Anyway, I tried to douche again but didn't have enough H2O2 to use as much as I did the last time and it didn't work so well. The smell's still here. I think I need to start using tampons or find douche bags, or use my Diva Cup.

I'm also using a Mirena IUD. It's been about a year since I've started using it. Didn't get BV until about a month ago.

So, my advice: best to do the tampon thing probably, or use empty douche bags if you have them? Also a 1:1 water/hydrogen peroxide mix might be more effective, but I would go with a more dilute solution and work up.

I've used this remedy before after finding it on Earth Clinic and once again, it's saved the day!!! Not sure what caused this case of BV but my guess is that my boyfriend and I started having sex about 3 months ago. I hadn't had sex in almost 2 years and before meeting my current boyfriend this summer. I'm not on any type of medication, antibiotics or BCP's, I haven't switched soap or detergent and even tho I've been having sex for the last 3 months, it's the only thing I can think of that would upset the "normal" ph in my vagina. What women need to understand that is that germs are everywhere---and hands/fingers & the mouth are the biggest carriers of germs (both used during sex, especially if you're boyfriend/husband gives you oral sex). At any rate, I did buy some acidophilous, followed by a 1/2 part Hydrogen Peroxide and 1/2 part warm water douche. Also rubbed some peroxide on the exterior and so far so good. We'll see what the real results are tomorrow but because I've used this before, I'm almost certain I'll be fine. Will probably do one more HP douche tomorrow just to be sure all the bacteria is gone. Thanks so much EC---I paid $0.34 for my bottle of Peroxide, a far cry from the money I would have spent on a doctor's visit & a prescription and 7 days popping the dreaded antibiotics!

I used 1/5 3% hydrogen peroxide douche mixed with 1/5 distilled water. prepared another douche bottle with just distilled water. Sat in the tub, used the hp mix and waited 5 minutes then rinsed with the distilled water. I did all of this 2 times and then inserted a vaginal probotic right after. I did this 2 times in the morning and 2 times at night for 3 days. BV was gone but left me itching. I found a chart with symptoms of vaginal infections whiched helps me alot. Now I think I have a combination of yeast and Cytolytic Vaginosis. I'm using an ordinary 7 day yeast infection kit and I'm filling up a capsule full of Baking Soda and I am inserting the yeast cream in the morning for 7 days and inserting 1 Baking Soda capsual at night only 2 days a week for 2 weeks. I ended up with to much good bacteria i think and a yeast infection go figure. The Baking Soda will reduce some of the good bacteria.

EC: Here's a great article we just found called "Differentiation Of The Vaginoses-Bacterial Vaginosis, Lactobacillosis, And Cytolytic Vaginosis"

Bacterial Vaginosis - Hydrogen Peroxide

Out of no where (a year's time) I smelled that unmistakeable smell this week. I didn't want to get medication as it usually leads into a cycle of UTI's. I came here after trying another solution to a problem (which was successful) and found this message board. I followed the advice here and began last night. I made a solution of three parts Hydrogen Peroxide and one part water into one cup and inserted it, two teaspoons at a time, via plastic syringe, in the shower. It instantly took away the brown goo and eliminated the smell. It is the next day now and I smell absolutely nothing. The only discomfort was a little burning and bubbly feeling for about half an hour after the insertion was completed. Thank you! I hope this isn't temporary but regardless, I will probably do this about once or twice a month from now on just to feel renewed! The next test will be the day after my period when I tended to smell the worst. Can't wait to see (what a weird thing to look forward to).
