[YEA]  12/17/2007: Hime from Washington, DC writes: "I just wanted to thank all the women out there who shared this embarrassing yet common problem that women (of course women) must deal with. I have had this problem not that long and it goes then comes then goes. I got so sick of it and the crap my GYN was telling me that I started searching on my own. It has been 5 days since I have been taking Folic Acid (400mg) and Acidophilus (500 million live cells per tablet) two of each a day even though one says once a day I have been taking two and my problem is definitily subsided since starting these vitamins. I must say I'm very exciting to have found something that seems to work. The medications metrogel everything they were prescribing me was not the long term result I was looking for. So ladies thank you so much and for those of you who are experiencing this problem be patient and truly take my advice and try these vitamins. It may be the result you're looking for."

[YEA]  12/17/2007: christi from eugene, or writes: "I have been fighting this thing for 2 years. It came on for no apparent reason. Same partner. Dr just keeps giving me Flagyl and then I came across a site bvgone forever. That was helpful but not totally. Something was missing. Just finished a dose of Flagyl and it did nothing had the odor yesterday and came across this site. Went to the store got the Folic acid and took 3 400 mcg and 2 hour later the smell was gone. I did douche with the water/peroxide solution just to feel a little cleaner but I woke this morning and took the same dose of folic acid and will keep up on that for several days until I feel safe again. I also take Ultimate flora vaginal support 50 million. Lets see if this works. Im switching to a naturopath dr also. The regular md just wants to shove meds down my throat and not offer anything else. I have had to do all the research myself."

[YEA]  12/15/2007: Holland from Greenville, SC writes: "First, I want to say thank you for posting your encouraging messages about the effectiveness of folic acid and acidophilus for healing bacterial vaginosis. I've been suffering from BV and yeast infections since mid-summer 2006. I'm not sexually active and I was very confused as to why I was having vaginal problems. My gynecologist assured me that some women are just more prone to BV and yeast, but no amount of antibiotics, fragrance-free soap, or cotton underwear fixed the problem. I'm getting married this spring, and I was so concerned that I would still be having problems for my honeymoon! I just finished a regimen of Flagyl, Diflucan, and doxycycline. They've even put me on Cleocin in the past. It still didn't cure my BV! But, I FOUND THIS WEBSITE! Ladies, in all seriousness, paring folic acid and acidophilus cures BV! Two days ago, I started taking 1,000mcg of folic acid twice a day with 1 to 2 acidophilus pills (1 billion CFUs). The BV has cleared up! I no longer have discharge or mild odor. The itchiness/uncomfortable irritation is also quickly decreasing. I'm going to continue to take the folic acid because we plan to have children after a few years (probably just once a day instead of twice). Again, THANK YOU!"

[YEA]  12/11/2007: Thalia from Oak Park, michigan writes: "I have been battling with BV since 98. I noticed I would get it when I became sexually active with a new partner. My doctors would always prescribe the metronidazole. I would take it until symptoms disappeared (MY FAULT). I really underestimated this infection because to no ones surprise, it always came back. Once I found a monogomous partner and he was the only person I was with, I wouldn't get BV anymore. Now I have a new boyfriend again and we are in a monogomous relationship. As soon as we became sexually active, the BV showed up. He is the only person I'm sleeping with and every time I have sex with him, the Bv is back. I have taken the medication as presribed and it still came back. This has really put a strain on our relationship. My vagina doesn't like him. So I am taking the Ultimate Vaginal Support Probiotic(with 50 billion cultures per capsule). I am also taking the Folic Acid. I'm taking this all in conjunction with Flagyl. I think that from so many years of taking Flagyl that all my good bacteria is gone. So when his bacteria is introdued, this creates the imbalance. So hopefully the probiotic and folic acid will restore everything to normal. Ladies make sure that if you are taking flagyl along with a probiotic, that you wait at least two hours before taking the probiotic following the flagyl. The probiotics die off as they pass through the body and if taken at the same time as the antibiotic, the flagyl will make sure that none of the organisms from the probiotic make it to where they need to go. The key is to restore and maintain a healthy balance of vaginal and urinary tract bacteria. I pray that this will work because I am so tired of that god awful smell and discharge. Dr. s really seem to know very little about this infection or maybe something else could be going on. Money is the root of all evil. It seems like the makers of flagyl/metronidazole have nothing to complain about. They keep getting paid as long as we purchase, so why give us the cure? If they gave us the cure for recurrent BV, then who would need flagyl/metronidazole, metrogel, clyndamacin? Creepy.....I CAN'T TELL EVERYONE THE JOY I WILL FEEL IF THIS WORKS!!! I WILL LET EVERY ONE KNOW AND THANK YOU!!!!"

[YEA]  12/10/2007: Dee from Dallas , Texas writes: "Thank you so much for the information on folic acid. In addition, the special note on NOT drinking apple cider viniger helped as well. I too have been suffering with BV for the last year. It appeared that BV was gone two weeks ago but then I noticed a slight smell about three days ago so I decided to search the net for a cure to avoid going to the doctor again - that's when I found this site. When I read the special note on NOT to drink apple cider viginer, it got my attention because I had recently began drinking the vinginer for a weight control measure. On Friday I went to GNC and purchased the folic acid and have been taking 800mg per day and IT WORKS. I also stopped drinking the viniger. This information has really helped me both mentally and physically. Thanks so much."

[NAY]  11/29/2007: MIMI from NY, NY writes: "Ok, So I have had BV for a year as of now and I'm tired of the thick disacharge that keep comming out. I go to my GYNO and it seems like she keeps giving me medication that doesn't do anything to it... It seems like my BV is immune to just about anything... Nothing seems to work and I'm getting frustrated. First, My GYNO gives me metro Gel and then the Flagy Pill... Which doesn't work at all... All it gave me was a bad taste in my mouth and an upset stomach... The next visit she prescribed me something called Clindessa (I might spelled it wrong)... This didn't work either.... I'm thinking about my next visit cursing her out for not giving me something that does work... But anyway, I was doing my research online to see if I can find my own cures or remedy... And then I came across this site... When I finished reading what other women wrote... I was impressed by the result of the remedy that they've used to treat their BV.... I was happy... This made me go out and buy Folic Acid, Acidophilus and yorgurt the very next day... Which I did, and when I did... I did this, for like a week already, but yet I haven't seen any difference.... I still have the thick discharge comming out... Assuming that it would within a couple of hours or the very next day since, some wrote that when they took it they've noticed a difference... As for me, I noticed nothing!!! Am I doing something wrong?!? I took 2 Folic Acid which each pill is 400MCG, combined is 800MCG.. and took 1 tablet of Acidophilus which contain 500 billion CFU.. By the way, this one that I took is called Accu-Flora Probotic Acidophilus, which is the one that is found in yorgurt... Please can someone tell me what is wrong or anyother treatment that would work..."

01/08/2008: Mary from Tampa, FL replies: "Back to BXlady. You asked what you were doing wrong. I would suggest taking two 400 mcg in the morning and one at night. That's what made all the difference for me. Also I would suggest taking two of the acidophilus.

It is very easy to get rid of as some say with a day or two if they are just getting the symptoms and are aware of their bodies and so it's a lot easy to get rid of. When I start to feel a little itchy and it's inside not outside I always take Two folic acids and it goes away quickly. however when it was something that I was dealing for a while it took a week for it to work. Once you don't have it anymore it is a good idea to still take one-two pills of 400 mcg folic acid a day and one probiotic a day. I hope this helps! Also one must realize that some people may have different reasons for reoccuring BV such as other issues eg PID, pregnancy that would bring on BV.

However, if you've gone to the gyno and they say there's nothing wrong then I hope this helps!!!God Bless!!"

05/29/2008: April from Los Angeles, CA replies: "I think that if you have suffered for a really long time and have given up on treatment, it takes longer to get rid of it. Try this, use the peroxide douche daily for 7 days. Just buy the kind that is already mixed with water (the bottle will say "solution"). Don't dilute it at all. Then make sure you are taking 800mg of folic acid 2x's a day. The Acidophilus should be taken at least twice daily as well. This should do the trick for sure."

09/15/2008: Ro from Temple Hills, MD replies: "I was just diagnosed with BV today and it's already too much to deal with. I've had the fire or a thousand suns flaming between my legs since last Thursday and I'm bout ready to jump out of a window. I was prescribed some medication, but I figured the folic acid and acidophilus wouldn't hurt. Wish me luck! I'll report back with my results..."

[YEA]  10/17/2007: Anna from West Chester, PA writes: "Im a 20 year old college student...I've been dealing with BV for about a year now. It had started when I started sleeping with my boyfriend a year ago. I had never not used condoms until i went on Birth control and i started sleeping with him. That is when all my trouble with BV started. I didn't really have a bad smell... just alot of discharge that freaked me out. My first thoughts were omg i have an std... but after my tests came up negative i was told i have bv and given metrogel... the stuff sucks. It gives me cramps and its gross and messy. The BV went away for like 2 months with metrogel and then came back. So i did my online reasearch and figured out my own cure. If ur problem sounds anything like mine...try this. Buy Acidophilus (4 billion cfu) You can get it at GNC or any healthfood store. Make sure u keep in a cool place otherwise the live cultures will die. Take 2 tablets in the morning before u eat and 2 before bed. Also buy Folic acid 400mcg. Take 2 in the morning after food and 1 at night. Buy activia yogurt and try to eat one every other day. Keep on this routine for like a week and u should be good. I'm nice and dry down there and I take 2 acidophilus and 1 folic acid daily just to keep things in line. Oh one more thing....try wearing just boys boxers to bed its lets air circulate down there. cotton underware is a must! Hope this helps!"

[YEA]  09/28/2007: Michelle from Charleston, West Virginia writes: "Hi -- I have tried every over-the-counter remedy prescribed by doctor's for Bacterial Vaginosis. What I notice is that the Metrogel works, but is very strong and can upset your tummy.

If you have these infections often, and they are very often confused with YEAST infections as the symptoms are similar, you may want to try the Folic Acid vitamins 2 X a day 800mcg for a few weeks and also continue on a regimen of Acidophilus. It is certainly not practical to keep running back to the Doctors for a cure if they are not offering one that works for you. I noticed some of the comments on here that Acidophilus didn't work for some people. I think it works better as a deterent against BV than as a quick cure.

I have also used Boric Acid, mostly to cure problems with Yeast infections and it alleviates the symptoms, but I'm not sure that it cures you long-term unless you are taking a supplement of the Acidophilus and also eliminating Sugar from your diet. Yeast loves Sugar and feeds on it -- so if you are serious about curing chronic yeast, eliminate a lot of sugars from your diets -- all of it at first and then gradually allow the healty sugars back in (fruit, etc). The only other thing that I can add, is if the over-the-counter yeast meds don't work for you, don't continue taking them. They certainly don't work for me; they make me feel like I'm on fire inside. And, at all costs, if you can avoid antibiotics -- do so! Thank you all for sharing your experiences with various cures."

The doc said 'Give it time to calm down' so I have been soothing it with salt baths but nothing changed until yesterday - when I found this site and went out to buy ACV, folic acid, yoghurt and aciphpolus. I wasn't taking any chances! The very exciting news is that 12hours after taking folic acid (800mg) and 1 acidpohulus tab, I feel fine. Florajen is a very high quality probiotic. You can get it at Pharmacies all over or on the Internet. It is Refrigerated at the Pharmacy so you have to ask for it. I also read that 100 mg of vitamin B6 will cure Bacterial vaginosis (drink plenty of water with it) so I am waiting on the Vitamin B6. I take my florajen (35 billion cfu's) on an empty stomach and wait 20-35 minutes or more so it can reach my intestines. It works best this way."

[YEA]  07/24/2007: CJ from Greensboro, NC writes: "I had been fighting BV for close to two years, having been misdiagnosed as having a yeast infection. One time, my doctor did the test and realized I had BV, after that when I called in, even if I said I'd been diagnosed with BV before, I was treated for a yeast infection, never asked to come in and get tested again. Once a month I would get the symptoms, and was told to treat with over the counter yeast infection treatments. This would help for about two weeks, then the syptoms would return. Finally I thought, I bet I'm still having the BV even though my doctor is ignoring that possibility, and searched for at home remedies for BV. I came across this site and the advice to take folic acid. Keep in mind, I'd been dealing with these symptoms for two years, every two weeks to 1 month - my life had been miserable! When I saw that folic acid might help, I immediately went to the grocery store and picked some up with the yogurt (thinking I would do the yogurt treatments as well). I took 2 folic acid supplements and in 30 minutes, felt good as new. I continued to take two a day for a week and the symptoms disappeared! Now, almost 3 months since I tried the folic acid treatment, I have had no reoccuring symptoms, for the first time in two years, I'm free! I only take the folic acid if I think I feel BV symptoms, and it still had not returned. Try the folic acid first and see if it helps! It's awesome, two years of never ending symptoms have stopped by just taking some extra folic acid! YEA!"

I bought folic acid pills and took 1200 micrograms (3 pills x 400 micrograms) and my symptoms disappeared in a half an hour. No more symptoms at all. No itching, no burning at all. Also, why don't you guys suggest apple cider vinegar? I always always rinse myself with apple cider vinegar solution after sex to prevent infections. Last Saturday I was too tired to do it and on Tuesday I started having symptoms. I continued rinsing with apple cider vinegar solution twice a day while taking the pills."

FOLIC ACID, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR DOUCHE

1 YEA

[YEA]  07/15/2008: Jo Ann from Pearl City, Hawaii writes: "I have had BV for the last 40 years. The first 30 were misdiagnosed by several gynocologists. They all told me I had a yeast infection. About 10 years ago, my OB/GYN told me I had Bacterial Vaginosis and treated me with Flagyl. This got rid of my problem but only temporarily. BV plagued me 3-4 times a year. Each time I took Flagyl. Throughout the 40 years, I douched almost daily to control the smelly fishy odor. I knew douching so often was probably making the BV worse but I was desperate. Then, a few days ago I found your site and read the many positive comments about folic acid.I purchased a bottle and began taking 800 mcg twice a day. I also douched using 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. By Saturday, the odor and discharge were gone. I plan to continue taking 800 mcg 2 times per day for the next 2 weeks and maintain one 800 mcg per day thereafter. I can't believe this inexpensive supplement and apple cider vinegar got rid of my BV after 40 miserable years of Bacterial Vaginosis!!! A big mahalo (thank you) to Earth Clinic for making this valuable information available to women who suffer with BV and other health issues."

FOLIC ACID, PROBIOTICS

1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  12/08/2009: Rs from San Francisco, Ca writes: "This is my 3rd posting after starting the folic acid and probiotic treatment for BV which I have suffered for years. Its been 8-days and Im doing great, no symptoms. I had sex for the first time since starting on this regimen and I was terrified that the BV would come right back. I was prepared for the worst and that is exactly what happened. Within about 30 minutes of having sex I could feel that familiar burning and swelling and VIOLA, it was back within a few hours but I was ready and knew what to do. I took 4 probiotics (5 billion each) and inserted 2 vaginally and took 1600mcg of folic acid. Within about 45 minutes it was all back to normal. So, that is the way to do it ladies. Be ready after you have sex because most likely it will come back. But it can be controlled, and that is the key. I should have probably waited longer before having sex, but for me, I knew it would come back regardless of how long I waited."

01/29/2010: M from Ny, Ny replies: "I don't know if this applies to you but back when I was on the pill, I noticed I would almost always get burning and swelling whenever my boyfriend would ejaculate inside of me. I figured I was allergic to his semen. Maybe I had BV all along. Who knows?? Anyway, my suggestion is to stay away semen at all costs haha"

[YEA]  11/04/2009: Ms. Remy from Eastern, North Carolina writes: "I have been dealing with I thought was a yeast infection then all of a sudden I noticed a foul smelling odor afterwards that was hard to get rid of, however; I just used the garlic gel pills that is 1,000 mg and inserted (2 pills) in my vagina for two days in between those days a discharged occurred but I guess it was normal for that to happen but I am now odor and discharge free. Why? did I do this because when you go to the doctor they give you pencillin and next to that if you can't afford the visit garlic is next in line to cure you. I read this site whereas everyone is using gel pills so I went home and inserted the garlic gel pills instead remind you I had this infection for about a good 3 months and it was getting worse now. I am cured. Just keep washing with dove unscented soap and keep a dry unscented pantiliner on day and night to keep yourself dry. Remember garlic eats yeast and purifies. I advise you all not to douche just keep your system flush with fluid because that vinegar/water douche by equate irritated me that caused this to happen."

[YEA]  10/11/2008: Aminta from Charlotte, NC writes: "I want to thank earthclinic.com for starting this website. It has truly been a blessing to me. I am writing to let you ladies know that, although no one commented that they used fresh garlic as a cure, it really works. I have suffered from BV for 3 yrs (since my husband cheated on me). Every other month after that I was getting recurrences of BV. Like the rest of you, neither the cream's nor pill's got rid of the BV for good. I recently was reading up on how natural garlic heal's so many ailment's. So, I bought so garlic, peeled it and wrapped it in gauze. I tied it with dental floss and inserted it in my vagina once a day, preferably at night before bed. I would remove the garlic every morning before taking my shower. I did this for 7 day's and I am symptom free still today. The bad thing about it is that the smell of garlic doesn't wear off for a while so if you are sexually active often then I wouldn't recommend this home remedy. I hope this remedy help's you ladies. It is alot cheaper on your pocket's. I bought 2 bulb's of garlic for under $1.00."

EC: That's true, Aminta -- hundreds of responses, but no mention of garlic for bacterial vaginosis. Thanks for the new remedy!

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  07/06/2009: Kennedy from Broomeville, SC writes: "Hi ladies I have to say thanks for all of your input. I thought I was the only one in the world struggling with this problem. I've also researched that if you have an IUD that may be the cause of the BV as well. I've been taking one garlic pill twice a day. One in the morning and one at night. I've also been drinking a probiotic drink that has lots of bacteria that's similar to yogurt. I consume one every morning. So far for about a month, I've noticed some changes. I have little to no odor after intercourse and after my cycle. The discharge has decreased significantly! Hardly any at all."

[YEA]  04/22/2009: CleanNSexy from Los Angeles, California writes: "I got BV 4 yrs ago and the doctor prescribed an anti-biotic that cured it in a week but 10 months ago I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend, the next morning I had the symptoms and have been dealing with it ever since because I have no medical insurance. I went through the terrible ordor that came through my clothes, more discharge than normal(went through a lot of panty liners) and minor vaginal itch. I've tried taking Folic Acid and Acidophillus as well as douching with Peroxide and water but the smell, irritation and discharge would come back in a couple of days. About three weeks ago before I started my cycle I inserted a capsule of Golden Seal(an anti-biotic used to cure infections) into my vagina every night before I went to sleep and wore a panty liner to keep from getting discharge stains in my underwear from the Golden Seal leaking out. It has been 3 weeks and there's no odor, no irritation and my discharge went back to normal. It's almost time for my cycle to begin again and there's still no signs of BV. Golden Seal can be bought at any Health food store and I advice all women who are having problems with BV to try it!"

[WORKED TEMPORARILY]  01/25/2010: Stacyd from Dover, Delaware replies: "I tried the goldenseal after trying everything folic acid, h2o douches, acidophilus inserted vaginally and orally. I douched once then the next two days inserted the pill. I was back to normal and very happy. Until the other day my husband and i had sex unprotected and the symptoms came back within two days. Is the bv linked to unprotected sex or does it just never go away?"

[YEA]  12/15/2008: MJB from Boise, ID writes: "I tried everything. Peroxide douch, vitamens the whole works. Im 23 and have BV for about 2 years it was driving me nuts. I read some stuff about goldenseal and BV. I tried a wash and that worked for a few days, the smell came back. Finally I tried a douche with 1 capsule of goldenseal and water. It seems to have done the trick. No fishyness or itch in over a week which is one of the longest stretches I have gone on."

[YEA]  03/11/2009: Elizabeth from Los Angeles, CA replies: "Golden seal cured BV for me.

I've been suffering from BV for 8 months and I've tried Folic Acid and Acidophellus (spell check) but neither worked, I douche with Peroxide and water which only lasted for 3 days but recently I tried finding boric acid and had no luck but I did have Golden Seal which cures most infections so I decided to insert it inside of the vaginal and the next morning I had no signs of BV so I did the same the next night and still no signs the next morning. The only thing is I have to wear a panty liner because it does leak out the next day."
