Flagyl   1  0

Posted by Shomabe (Sheffield, Uk) on 09/12/2012

I too suffered with this for nearly a year and a half. I had various treatments including antibiotics for 5 days and also one dose of 5 tablets at once I also tried the internal creams but nothing cleared it completely. However, each treatment seemed to make it a little better each time. I did the common mistake of washing like mad with soap and this made the discharge worse. I finally got rid of it by going to my gp and asking for the 5 day course of metronidazole antibiotics and metronidazole gel as this worked better than the cream. I had aqueous cream to wash my vaginal area in the shower. I just put loads of this onto a flannel the same as I would shower gel as it is not perfumed. I also took 3 dried capsules of acidophilus in the morning with a yoghurt, 1 folic acid tablet and one of the dissolvable vitamin c tablets. I recently needed to have a smear done and while I was there I got the nurse to swab me for bv and the result came back clear..... Finally! :-). I hope this remedy helps anyone else unlucky enough to suffer with this as I know it's sooooo difficult to get rid of. Please let me know if it works for you.

Folic Acid, Apple Cider Vinegar Douche   1  0

Posted by Jo Ann (Pearl City, Hawaii) on 07/15/2008

[YEA]  I have had BV for the last 40 years. The first 30 were misdiagnosed by several gynocologists. They all told me I had a yeast infection. About 10 years ago, my OB/GYN told me I had Bacterial Vaginosis and treated me with Flagyl. This got rid of my problem but only temporarily. BV plagued me 3-4 times a year. Each time I took Flagyl. Throughout the 40 years, I douched almost daily to control the smelly fishy odor. I knew douching so often was probably making the BV worse but I was desperate. Then, a few days ago I found your site and read the many positive comments about folic acid.I purchased a bottle and began taking 800 mcg twice a day. I also douched using 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. By Saturday, the odor and discharge were gone. I plan to continue taking 800 mcg 2 times per day for the next 2 weeks and maintain one 800 mcg per day thereafter. I can't believe this inexpensive supplement and apple cider vinegar got rid of my BV after 40 miserable years of Bacterial Vaginosis!!! A big mahalo (thank you) to Earth Clinic for making this valuable information available to women who suffer with BV and other health issues.

Folic Acid, Garlic   1  0

[YEA]  800 mg Folic acid [mine had B6/B12 added to it, taken once a day sublingually, 2 pods of garlic mashed thoroughly and mixed with extra virgin olive oil, applied several times a day. Worked! Am not sure it was the folic acid or the olive oil or the garlic, but it worked.

Folic Acid, Probiotics   1  0

Posted by Sadie (London, On) on 09/15/2011

[YEA]  I was a suffer from BV, at first I thought I had a sti but wasn't sexual active at the time, but yes its bv and wow... What a horrible thing to go thro... So I would like to say that I haven't had it for probaly about a year now. I take a strong probiotic 3 times a day EVERYDAY and 1 folic acid. Now if you suffering right now you should take 2 folic acid for a couple of days untill you feel better. Also inserting organic plain yogurt into you vag like 2 or 3 times a day (when suffering) has amazing results. I do the yogurt thing once in awhile for good measure. I can't tell you how much better life is without bv.

Now I do find that a yeast infection creeps in every so often but I'm going to do a candida cleanse soon to take care of that... But for you bv sufferers.... I swear by it... I never douched or inserted the pills and it worked great for me. The yogurt brings immediate relief. Make sure it's organic tho otherwise it contains some other stuff in it. Hope I help someone out there! We woman need each other for things like this, I since then have found other woman that constanly fight uti, yeast infection and bv and am still suprised by how little we talk to each other about these things. Next time your out with your gfs, bring it up... Chances are you could help one of them... It's an embarsing thing so you never know who is suffering as well.... could be your best friend.

I have been struggling with bv for about two weeks, four nights ago I went in search for a home remedy. Night one I inserted a 500mg vitamin c with no pain and great success. I awoke the next morning to no smelly discharge. The second night I got ambitious and inserted a 500 mg vitamin c and a probiotic, the next morning no smelly discharge but I did have some granules. The third night I inserted the same vitamin c and a probiotic within 30 minutes I was in pain and I used a store bought douche to rinse that out. Tonight I am starting over... I rinsed with a tsp of apple cider vinegar with water and I have inserted two 500 mg vitamin c. I hope this takes care of the bv.

Hi there! Like you, I've been a chronic BV (and yeast infection) sufferer for years. I've tried antibiotics, antifungals, oral probiotics, and folic acid to no avail! So I conducted an extensive research on the matter (I have access to scholarly research databases) and cured myself. Here's what I've done:

1. Vitamin D (2000 IU/day). Recent research show a direct correlation between Vit D deficiency and increased risk for BV. Vitamin D also promotes the regeneration of squamous epithelials that consists the mucousal lining of the vagina.

2. Femina Flora (1 capsule/night for 10 nights). This is a vaginal probiotic capsule with 10Billion CFU's of Lactobacilli species including Lactobacillus Rhamnosus which has shown ability to adhere to and colonize the vaginal walls. It also contains lactose (to feed the Lactobacilli) and Vitamin C (to assist in lowering the vaginal pH).

3. Oral probiotics. I suggest using FemDophilus or Ultimate Flora Vaginal Support. FemDophilus contains Lactobacillus Reuteri and Rhamnosus while Ultimate Flora contains Rhamnosus and other Lactobacilli species. Both aforementioned species are excellent in adhering to and thriving in the vaginal environment.

Note: These remedies don't have to be permanent. For example, if you live near the equator 15-20 mins in the sun without suscreen will provide you with 10, 000 IU of Vitamin D. Otherwise, you can supplement with 1000 IU once you're symptoms alleviate. Also, you can wean yourself off or lower your probiotics dosage after your symptoms are gone -- you can take 1 capsule every other day, then 2 capsules/week, then 1cap/week.

Good luck! ;)

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  This is my 3rd posting after starting the folic acid and probiotic treatment for BV which I have suffered for years. Its been 8-days and Im doing great, no symptoms. I had sex for the first time since starting on this regimen and I was terrified that the BV would come right back. I was prepared for the worst and that is exactly what happened. Within about 30 minutes of having sex I could feel that familiar burning and swelling and VIOLA, it was back within a few hours but I was ready and knew what to do. I took 4 probiotics (5 billion each) and inserted 2 vaginally and took 1600mcg of folic acid. Within about 45 minutes it was all back to normal. So, that is the way to do it ladies. Be ready after you have sex because most likely it will come back. But it can be controlled, and that is the key. I should have probably waited longer before having sex, but for me, I knew it would come back regardless of how long I waited.

I don't know if this applies to you but back when I was on the pill, I noticed I would almost always get burning and swelling whenever my boyfriend would ejaculate inside of me. I figured I was allergic to his semen. Maybe I had BV all along. Who knows?? Anyway, my suggestion is to stay away semen at all costs haha

Hi, in reply to you thinking you're allergic to your bf's sperm/semen.

It's actually not an allergy, it's more a case of semen being alkaline and when it gets injected into the normally acidic vagina, it makes you more susceptible to bacterial overgrowth such as Gardnerella organism in BV. We all have this bug in our vagina, it's part of the normal vaginal flora. When we are stressed or when the vaginal environment becomes too alkaline via semen etc, we become more susceptible to organisms such as BV.

That's why all those gels work as they acidify the vagina, though aren't a cure of BV, just ameliorate the symptoms.
Hope this helps.

I am so glad that I found this site. I have been suffering from BV off and on since 2001 after my LEEP procedure. Nothing the doctor prescribed me worked. I am blessed that I don't have the horrible smell anymore. Over the years my symptoms have changed. Now I just have the discharge sometimes watery with slight itching an burning. At the moment I don't have any folic acid or probiotics. I do have a multivitamin that has 400 mcg of folic acid. I took 3. I also tried the water/peroxide douche. I have a douche bottle that I purchesed from my local drug store. I filled it up with water and put a cap full of peroxide. I actually feel clean inside. You guys may think it's crazy but it feels calm in there too. LOL Thank you all for providing this information on this site. It's sad that we are able to figure out treatments that Dr's who have went to school for 10 years can't even figure out! I wish you all the best of luck with fighting this evil bacteria.

I am so thrilled that is site is out there!! Dealing with this has been hard, expensive and mostly embarrassing!! Thank goodness you women are so brave to put it out there :) I tried the peroxide and.... It worked immediately! @ hours with a peroxide soaked tampon and the smell was gone! I just soaked a plastic applicator type tampon (still intact) for 15 mins. And then inserted it for 2 hours. There was not even a hint of scent on it, more importantly in me!! 24 hours and still everything is good, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!

Garlic   4  0

Posted by Amy (Marion, In) on 03/06/2014

Hi ladies, I'm 18 and I suffered from BV for a couple months, with it occurring off and on. I diagnosed myself in November by researching the symptoms online, and went to a minute-clinic where they gave me an oral antibiotic to treat a yeast infection, and also Flucanazol to treat the Bacterial infection after the lab results returned. I assumed I wasn't being as cleanly as I should (multiple unprotected partners) and was glad when the symptoms disappeared with treatment. But to my disgust the whole infection returned. The smell wasn't the worst part, it was the discharge. It was disgusting. I got into a relationship and was afraid every time we had sex he would wonder why it was so funky. So I reluctantly returned to a doctor in late December - this time my family physician - and she treated me with Flucanazol as well. Well my symptoms returned after several nights of unprotected sex with my boyfriend. So finally in early February I returned to my physician and she prescribed me yet a stronger antibiotic. Again the symptoms disappeared but they came back even sooner (with my period) this time, and brought an odor worse than ever. At this point I was tired of antibiotics failing and destroying my immune system, it's winter and I had 3, yes THREE sinus infections in 2 months! So I resorted to reading and researching and fact-checking every home remedy I could find. I bought vitamins, douches, plain organic yogurt, gulped water by the gallons it felt like.

For 2 weeks I followed a strict routine I devised myself from all the different remedies I could find. In the morning in the shower I would douche once with a hydrogen peroxide-water solution, and then douche with Apple-Cider Vinegar and water. Once out of the shower I would insert a capsule of Probiotic Acidophilus, and a tampon soaked in the plain yogurt. I removed the tampon after about an hour or 2. I would insert another capsule before bed every night. I was also taking a multi vitamin and an acipophilus capsule orally every morning, as well as drinking 6-8 glasses of water each day. Well as long as I continued this my symptoms were gone. No discharge and no odor. Of course I was somewhat pleased but deep down I knew it was only because of the amount of douching keeping the symptoms at bay. So I stopped my routine (except taking the vitamins orally) and sure enough the symptoms returned, but they were definitely not as bad. The odor was less noticeable (I actually had to shove my finger up there and smell or smell my panties) and the discharge wasn't near the quantity as before. So I knew what I was doing was somewhat helping but not as well as I had hoped.

Then I tried one more totally different technique. Garlic. I was very weary about this for many reasons. Inserting that odd food up there, leaving it until it expels itself naturally, and having a very strong smell of garlic coming from down there was not something I would've tried casually, but I read only good about garlic as a natural antibiotic. So I tried it. I didn't do anything else besides continue taking one acidophilus and one multivitamin orally each morning. And I was amazed that it worked. Completely cleared up. The smell went away about 24 hours after the clove of garlic expelled itself and the discharge has not returned nor has the smell. The day it "expelled itself" (on the toilet during a bm) I did insert an acipophilus capsule that night for good measure I suppose. It's been about a week and I am so relieved! Keep in mind I have been making my boyfriend withdrawal the past couple weeks, which isn't something he likes to do so we didn't use to (I was on birth control) and could've added to the yucky feeling with the infection. And I also haven't had my period yet this month (I might be pregnant actually! ) so hopefully that doesn't bring it back but please please give this a shot if nothing else is giving lasting results.

One more thing, I would NOT waste my time or money on the darned tampon soaked in yogurt. It did not seem to anything but make a mess and leave me with a quart of the most disgusting yogurt ever. It tastes mote like sour cream. And "soaking" the tampon is a LOT harder than it sounds. I tried taking it out of the inserter and it expands and is nearly impossible to insert. But leaving it in the package it doesn't absorb much if any, but enough for the tip to expand to where you can't get the tampon out of the tube!! So, I will very much regret getting anyone's hopes up IF my BV returns, but this is the longest I've been symptom-free and felt amazingly fresh since the first time I was treated with antibiotics, and hopefully this time it does not return.

[YEA]  I struggle with bacterial vaginosis and have it for months and years at a time. I finally found my cure with cloves of garlic. I unpeel a garlic clove, put a few stab holes in it to release the healing juices and insert it in my vagina. After a day or two or three it naturally comes out. I finally cured myself and have been B.V. Free for several weeks now thank god!!!! I did a maintenance type of program with many things that kept the odor at a minimum and the white sticky discharge a little less in thickness with all of the following.

I have tried hydrogen peroxide douches with a few drops of tea tree oil (this kills the bad bacteria that is overgrowing and causing the problem), rePHresh vaginal inserts (these really help with the odor), eating probiotics daily (the refrigerated kind you find at Whole Foods) and elimination of sugar and coffee from my diet (hard to do but actually good for health and diet). Anyways, I just wanted to share this with everyone because I know the stress and aggravation this causes and I really think the cloves of garlic is what really worked this time. It lessened the white discharge within a few days, and it also created a more clear and slippery lubricant in my vagina and that was a relief. I also decided to stop obsessing over it and just tried to maintain it and I think this psychological shift really played a part as well. Best of luck to all women who face this problem. I hope this helps!

'I hope' that was meant to put a smile on our faces, because it sure made me chuckle. When people say "What's that garlic smell?", just tell them you're on that new 'Italian Diet' that everyone is trying!

[YEA]  Cure Bacterial Vaginosis with garlic

Anytime I have gotten a bacterial infection or yeast infection I use a garlic clove. I get a large fresh garlic clove, then after I peel it I poke the skin with a fork all over, then I insert it into my vagina as far as my middle finger will push it, then I leave it in over night, and in the morning I just push it down and take it out (I've never had a promblem getting it out). The garlic gel pills can also be used if your worried about not being able to get it out, cause it will dissolve, I've never used them but my friend has. I've been doing this for more than 4yrs, my sister and girlfriends do it now also.

[YEA]  I have been dealing with I thought was a yeast infection then all of a sudden I noticed a foul smelling odor afterwards that was hard to get rid of, however; I just used the garlic gel pills that is 1,000 mg and inserted (2 pills) in my vagina for two days in between those days a discharged occurred but I guess it was normal for that to happen but I am now odor and discharge free. Why? did I do this because when you go to the doctor they give you pencillin and next to that if you can't afford the visit garlic is next in line to cure you. I read this site whereas everyone is using gel pills so I went home and inserted the garlic gel pills instead remind you I had this infection for about a good 3 months and it was getting worse now. I am cured. Just keep washing with dove unscented soap and keep a dry unscented pantiliner on day and night to keep yourself dry. Remember garlic eats yeast and purifies. I advise you all not to douche just keep your system flush with fluid because that vinegar/water douche by equate irritated me that caused this to happen.
