Acidophilus, Folic Acid and Peroxide for Bacterial Vaginosis

I found this website in a desperate online search to find something to naturally cure my BV. I have been dating my boyfriend for about two months and have noticed over the last month a HORRIBLE fishy smell, it even permeated my clothing at work and I was SO embarrassed! I kept washing repeatedly and it only got worse. I stumbled on to this website and read EVERY review, and decided to try washing with H202 and taking the acidophilus and folic acid. I went to the store on my lunch hour, came back to work and took 5 probiotic acidophilus capsules. I also took 4-400mcg folic acid pills and even inserted two acidophilus vaginally. The capsules inserted vaginally didn't seem to dissolve, just kind of sat in there and the outer lining broke down. After one full day - I noticed a slight improvement - but felt pretty disheartened after seeing so many people have immediate results. I took the same dosage twice the next day, and inserted three capsules vaginally. I continued rinsing, yet never douching with H202 and by the third day, when I had sex with my boyfriend (sorry to be graphic) there was NO smell, NO whitish discharge left on him. I used to be SO embarrassed to have sex with him, and now everything is AWESOME! ONLY THING TO NOTE - YOU MUST KEEP TAKING THIS. If you do not - it WILL COME BACK. I forgot to take my vitamins for a few days and didn't think anything of it until I got a faint whiff of a funky odor - I was back to taking them SO FAST! But yes - it does work - and it was a lifesaver. Thanks to all the ladies who have posted their stories on here and it was so nice to know I was not alone, being a clean woman with an icky (and HORRIBLY embarrassing) problem!

I found this website more than a year ago. I have been plagued by BV for years. Seems like everytime my husband and I are "active" a few times a week I would get an infection. It occured to me to search the internet as there are so many new sources of info. ANYWAY I tried the peroxide alone becuase that is what I had on hand. I douched 2X a day with 1/2 peroxide 1/2 water. IT WORKED. For the next few months if I ever felt any symptoms creeping back I would douche again, once or twice a day. It would stop it from taking hold if you know what I mean. Since I started this I have only had maybe ONE episode! It is amazing!!! I am free of it!

Yesterday, I tried some of the recommendations on this site for this accursed BV I've been dealing with for months. I kid you not, the odor was gone almost immediately! I am so thrilled! Here is what I used:

  • diluted hydrogen peroxide mini douche (using 2 partially filled eyedroppers)
  • 2 acidophilus caplets by mouth (40 million)
  • folic acid 800 mcg by mouth
  • B12 500 mcg by mouth
  • 1 odorless garlic capsule vaginally
At bedtime, I took another 400 mcg folic acid and placed 1 acidophilus vaginally.

This morning, I'm still fresh as a daisy. I cannot believe how easy this was. Will update as to whether is stays gone!

I am just trying to get some real honest feedback. Does this remedy truly work? I don't understand if this works why are women GYN's giving their patients metronoz and the other one clinde. I mean those are known to kill good bacteria as well. I don't want to further enhance my problem which is why I'm looking for some real women to women HELP. Is there anyone out there that feels the same? This problem seem to easy to fix but yet so many women are struggling with it. Please tell me the truth.

Jainee, All testimonies are factual, we're all real women dealing with the same thing. I think the reason drs don't prescribe "home remedies" is because they are working with the drug makers, think about it, if you can relieve your each for a $1.00 a bottle of hydrogen peroxide what on earth with they do with all those $20 tubes of whatever cream you get! I've spent $100's on so many different products it just seemed to easy for this to work.

I got a non-needle syringe and I fill a glass with 1/2 water have hydrogen peroxide, then whenever it seems I need a little boost, I just douche with it in the shower. I'm noticing the pattern of needing it maybe once or twice a week so I do like Sunday and Wednesday. Plus I do the folic acid and acidophylus orally every day.

Good luck!!!

Hello LaJuana from Las Cruces, You didn't mention what you are contemplating trying for that BV but if you want to maintain that pregnancy stay far away from anything that might dissolve that mucus plug in the cervix, such as peroxide or vinegar douches.

What vaginal inserts are you using? I found some at Mother's but I think these are more for yeast infections not BV. A reply would be much appreciated.

After reading this site and all the suggestions from other women, I tried the 1/2 peroxide/1/2 water douche, 10mg acidophilus pills, and also added 400mg folic acid tablets to my daily vitamins. No kidding, within 1 day all symptoms were gone! I have struggled with this problem off and on since I had a hysteroctomy 8 years ago. After moving in with my boyfriend in July, it had become unbearable to me, the odor was horrifying, I didn't want any intimacy because of it. I tried so many "remedies" but nothing seemed to work very well or for more than a day or two. I read the feedback from other women on here 7 weeks ago and ran to the drugstore immediately. After douching with the peroxide/water mix, taking the acidophilus pill and folic acid, it was too good to be true! the first week I used the douche solution 3x to be on the safe side and took the vitamins everyday. I now take 1 acidophilus pill and a folic acid tablet daily, and have had no reaccurance at all. For less than $20 I was able to buy everything I needed and be free of this horrible problem. Much cheaper than my doctor visit co-pay, and much cheaper than the meds the doctor prescribed that only took away the severity of the symptoms. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the women who were willing to talk about this embarrassing subject on here!

It is important to find what works for your own body. I tried most of the remedies on this site and found so far that only two gives me satisfactory results. The tampon dipped in yogurt only worked for me for about several hours whereas the H202 and acidophilus douches worked longer for me. There is also a paste that I make using the contents of 2 acidophilus capsules and mixing with enough water to make a paste that I put up inside me. This has worked wonders for me! I have made some lifestyle changes (laundering my undies in only dye-free and fragrance-free detergent; unscented bath soap; dye-free fragrance-free dryer sheets, making sure the crotch on my undies are always white cotton, showers instead of baths; no commercial douches; no feminine sprays for "down there", etc) I have recently started keeping a daily log of which remedy I am using and how long the symptoms stayed away. In this way I can see what is actually working and stop doing the ones that are not producing the results I desire. Havent tried the apple cider vinegar bath yet but it is on my list.

WORKED TEMPORARILY

I have took 1600 milligrams a day folic acid. 200 milligrams of garlic a day. 2 billion a day of probiotic and ate yogurt. Done the hydrogen perioxide douche straight. I didnt add water. Did that for 5 days and 2 days later it was back. My question is how long should i continue? I started again and tired of taking the prescription that makes me feel horrible. Another question would b, if it stays is it hurting my body and should i continue to get a prescription cause it is an infection?

I am extremely happy I found this site! After my most recent bout with BV and taking Flagyl (NASTY tasting) and Metrogel gives you a yeast infection afterwards. I got fed up and googled for home remedies for this condition. I read alot of posts on here & decided to try some of the remedies. I figured what do I have to lose?? The results shocked me and they really do work. Downside? You have to maintain the routine for life. It's worth it!
Here is what I do: douche wih 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 water twice weekly (douche with plain water afterwards). I eat one of those yogurt cups daily (make sure it has live active cultures in it). I take 800 mg of Folic Acid daily. Also two acidophilus supplements daily. I open up an acidophilis capsule and mix with enough water to make a paste then use a clean finger to put it up inside me. I do this twice weekly. I drink at least a glass of cranberry juice daily. I tried the tampon dipped in plain yogurt with active live cultures a few hours ago and I am smell free already!

I also made some other lifestyle changes: no scented bath soap, bubble baths or anything like that. I use unscented soap. I even purchased unscented laundry detergent and dryer sheets. I threw out all my old underwear and bought new ones. I only use condoms.

I admit I was afraid that douching would make it worse as I grew up thinking that ALL douching was bad. Depends on what you douche with. The peroxide douches have worked for me with no side effects. You have to figure out what works for you.

A good probiotic from the health food store is the answer to vaginosis. The yogurt doesn't have enough good bugs in it and most of it dies in the gut. I take a probiotic with 16 billion good bacteria in it and it has cleared up my sinus infection and also my yeast. The good bugs kill off all the yeast. It is also good for bacterial infections since the bugs are good bacteria. I believe it will also help the immune systen for the flu season. I havent seen much about people taking a good probiotic for cures. a good probiotic is the answer to a lot of ailments. It would pay to do some research on this.

Cure. This works: 50 ml of 3% H2O2 50 ml distilled water - douche with this combo TWICE. Next, douche with an empty bottle of water. Afterwards, insert acidophillus. I purchased a brand that contains over 1 billion live cultures of various lactobillus groups. Wouldn't recommend inserting the pill as its hard to dissolve. I purchased a yest infection kit for the plunger, opened the pills and emptied the contents into the plunger. Adding a little yogurt helps keep the substance in place. Do this in the morning & at night for 3 -5 days. POOF! IT'S GONE! Also, ingest 400 mg of folic acid four times a day (totalling 1600 mg). I would also recommend a 10-day cleanse, fast, or parasite cleanse to erradicate all parasites from your body after getting rid of the bv to make sure it doesn't come back. Change diet, cut back on alcohol, cotton panties, "air out" at night, and eat lots of yogurt to keep it away. Hope this helps.

Is there anyone who has taken folic acid, acidophilus, and tried to eat yogurt (just orally not vaginally) to cure (BV)? I personally prefer not to douche.

The following comes from: http://www.medicinenet.com (article about vaginal douche)

One way to look at it is in a healthy vagina there are both good and bad bacteria. The balance of the good and bad bacteria help maintain an acidic environment. Any changes can cause an over growth of bad bacteria which can lead to a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis.

Plus, if you have a vaginal infection, douching can push the bacteria causing the infection up into the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. Research shows that women who douche regularly have more health problems than women who don't.

If there is a strong odor or irritation it usually means something is wrong. Douching can increase your chances of infection. The only time you should douche is when your doctor tells you to

Most doctors say it's best to let your vagina clean itself. The vagina cleans itself naturally by making mucous. The mucous washes away blood, semen, and vaginal discharge. You should know that even healthy, clean vaginas may have a mild odor.

Hi -

I started getting BV about 4 years ago. At first it was VERY sporadic, just happened twice in a span of two years. But since I met my current boyfriend a little over a year ago, it began happening once every 2 months. The discomfort can actually be crippling sometimes, and I often found myself chasing after prescriptions & running to the pharmacy time and time again.

BUT, I found this site last night, when the flare up began...and let me tell you TWO HOURS later I was feeling better, and woke up this morning without a problem. All I did was a combo of:

1) Hydrogen Peroxide Water (equal parts) douche
2) 1 pill women's multi vitamin, with Folic Acid
3) 1 pill probiotic (Acidophilus)

THAT's it. I'm back to normal! After reading everyone else's responses, I am definitely going to limit the douche to only when I get a flare up / after my period. I'm going to continue taking the vitamins & probiotic, once a day, just because they're healthy. And, I'm going to add yogurt to my diet!

Thanks to everyone for their helpful testimonies - I can't believe I'm feeling 100% in a matter of 12 hours (it doesn't even ease up that fast with anti-biotics!).

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

I have been suffering from BV since March. Now, granted that's not as long as many of you ladies on this website, but let me tell you, I am ready for it to go away FOREVER! I am 20 years old and can't go an hour without running to the bathroom to make sure I don't smell, or have too much discharge. Well anyway, I tried the acidopholis, folic acid and H2O2 douche. I started off with 1600 mg of folic acid twice a day and 4 1 billion of acidopholis. and the 1/2 water 1/2 peroxide douche. It worked great! For two days. Now I believe it's either back and worse, or I have a bladder infection. Now I'm taking just acidopholis and folic acid. I have alot of pain in the region, but the discharge is minimal and the smell is gone. This is why I believe its another infection that I probably got from the douche. My point is, you should always try just the supplements first! I will never douche again no matter how bad this gets because I'm almost sure that's what made my situation worse! Be patient. Although this has made my situation worse, I'm very happy that I stumbled across this website. It's nice to see that I'm not alone, and it amazes me how many different remedies are out there. I will definitely be visiting this site many more times in the future! Good luck ladies. Be patient and have faith!

I have been suffering for almost 4 years now off and on. My BV will go away for about 3 months at the most and then come back. Living in South Florida my gyno thought it was a yeast infection. Well every time he gave me something to cure what he thought it was it got worse. Finally after several cultures he said it was actually BV. So he prescribed a boric acid suppository I had to use for 2 weeks. That only helps for a little while. I've tried the MetroGel, Teraconzyl, even other home remedies like drinking and doing a sits bath of apple cider vinegar! I started last night with the hydrogen peroxide, folic acid and the acidophilus. Wish me luck. If there was a shot to give down there I'd take that right now, I'm at my wits end. Newly dating a guy and this is no fun! Question - could I keep re giving it to myself on my um how shall I put it "adult toys"? I was them with soap and hot water after each use, but wondered what everyone else thought. I'm 41 and this is no way to live. I do have to say I've taken comfort there are others out there.

I've been doing the hydrogen perioxide/mix for about a week now, was there a point I was supposed to stop? I was also doing the folic and acidophilyus twice a day orally. Seemed to be getting better. I think I threw my flora balance even more out of whack now!!! Please someone help. I now have sorry for being so graphic, but a yeast infection that is buring and cottage cheese! I just don't know what to do. I have a standing prescription of Dyflucan so I just took one, the burning is so bad I feel like I have a fireplace in my va-ja-area! I think the hydrogen mix is just too much twich a day. Any suggestions? Please I am so desperate.

I am so sick of this infection coming in and out of my life, for the passed 2 years. My underwear have been destroyed by the acidity of my discharge. I am going to try the acidophilus and yogurt. No more douching or flagyl for me. sigh...

h202 douche/folic acid/ acidophilus

I have been using this method every time this nasty infection comes back, went a good 7 to 8 months with no problem but just got it back, because i used scented tampons. So stay away from those! We have to start thinking why we are getting this, pay attention to what might trigger it. To those women who say they are inserting the acidophilus capsules, and are getting a very yellow gritty discharge, i have experienced that as well and had no luck with that brand of acidophilus. I have come to find out that the best acidophilus to insert vaginally is the acidophilus pearls (it will say pearls or beads on the box, instead of capsues, or pills) The brand that works instantly comes in a purple box, since i cant say the brand. Look for a pearl, or bead of acidophilus that has many of the bacteria we need to put back into our bodies like not only lactobacillus acidophilus, but also bifidobacterium longum, lactobacillus rhamnosus, and bifidobacterium. I have found that brands that have all of this plus no milk or other stuff in the ingredients works the best, also you want lots of live cultures, the one i use has 2.5 billion live cultures in one acidophilus pearl. I do 1600mg folic acid twice daily, h202 douche for 3 days to a week, and two acidophilus pearls a day, one inserted at night before bed after h202 douche, for one week. I hope this helps. Had alot of practice fighting this thing. if u feel it coming back, like a slight itch, or sweet smell, quickly do a h202 douche and insert a pearl, and start back on the dosage for a week or so. Good luck ladies.

Cottage cheese-like discharge, with no smell and lots of itching and burning is more likely to be a yeast infection than Bacterial Vaginosis.

BV Treatment during menstruation...

Hi Ladies, this is my first time through this plague and I need some advice. I have been to the doctor where she prescribed metronidazole which I took for a week with no improvement. She then prescribed Clindamycin which I expect won't work either. I started on your recommended treatment yesterday combo of h2o2 douche, acidophilus and folic acid but I got my period this morning. I haven't found any posts related to this topic so I assume I just continue with the treatment but can someone please confirm or share your experience. Do I have to wait another week to work on this nasty condition...

Reading all these posts have been a life saver with this being my first bout I can only imagine how much suffering some of you have experienced. This is 100% consuming I spend hours on the internet in between trips to the washroom ever hopeful that the symptoms will be gone.

I recently had my first encounter with the nasty bv 2 weeks ago. I never knew it even existed until after sex, hubby notices a stong fishy smell. had recently stopped my period a week before. I decide to go on line and figure out my prob, I also have an doc app. in a week. I tried the folic acid by itself, in 2 days, no improvement. Then I tried the hydrogen peroxide -1/2 water-1/2 HP- and the probotics. Instant relief!! I am on my third day now, no smell, discharge, some itch though.

I am wondering, if I have sex will it come back again, has this happened to any one? I am so worried that it will. Don't want to get my hopes up so high.

About a week ago I tried the 50/50 mix of peroxide and bottled water douche. About an hour later I used a 10 cc syringe to insert plain yogurt into my vagina. I also use the 50/50 mix as a rinse for my external genitalia every day. I take one pill a day of acidophilus, cranberry and folic acid. Since Ive done this I have not had it return even after sex with my husband. So far so good. I hope all is better with you and all the other ladies battling this inconvenience.

I read a study (just before I found this site) that suggest douching (especially with soap) helps create a friendly environment for VB. Sooo...maybe our "cleanliness" is getting us into trouble...hhmmmm.

Here is the site...http://gateway.nlm.nih.gov/MeetingAbstracts/ma?f=102239373.html

My Dr prescribed meds, so far the odor and discharge is worse and now itches...not cool. Going to try to do something about it myself now. Good luck to you all here, this is truly a nasty business to deal with repeatedly.

I've recently developed BV and while am able to keep it under control by inserting half of pill of Metronidazole vaginally, I slipped up - I had sex with my boyfriend. I am aware that there shouldn't be any sexual intercourse while the symptoms are present because the bacteria can live on the penis and then be transmitted back to vagina which now leaves me wondering how long would I have to avoid having sex with my boyfriend? We've been dating for only a month and I am very uncomfortable discussing this with him. We're going away in 5 days which would make it very difficult for me if this BV problem is still present.

Would condom use make it worst? If anyone has an idea or can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated!

I find that anything containing latex triggers bv for me. I was told years ago by a doctor that latex could not do that. I don't believe that. BV is an overgrowth of bad bacteria and anything that upsets the vaginal ph can allow for this overgrowth. Since staying away from anything latex I suffer from bv less frequently.

Mg I agree!!! I think latex and the chemicals in condoms are also conflicting with our balance of good and bad bacteria. I will try anything at this point. The douching was way too much for me and created a yeast infection, so I need to find a happy medium between that and not doing anything at all. I've switched to cotton balls soaked in the hydrogen/water mix and just kind of squeeze it up there a few times and do this once a night for a few nights. Plus I'm still taking the acidophillus and folic acid once a day.

Good luck everyone, keep posting results we are all in this together!!!

Hydrogen Peroxide, Folic Acid, Acidophilus

I have been suffering from vaginal problems for approximately four years now. I have viewed a few sites that promise to help me but all of them have failed. I was also trying to find a few support groups but I couldn't find any, until now. I appreciate the fact that many women suffer from the same problems that I do. It makes me feel a lot better. It makes me feel like I'm not alone AND I'm not gross! I have been to my gyno several times over the past few years and I've been treated for BV, yeast infections and (unfortunately) chlamydia. I feel so ashamed and disgusted with myself that I don't know what to do anymore. I haven't "pleased my self" in years nor have I been with a partner. I'm so ashamed about my symptoms. I've tried acidophilus with the same results as others (with the yellow gritty discharge). I've also tried taking multivitamins in hopes that they would help. I have never used scented ANYTHING nor have I used tampons or had a bad diet etc. I have tried everything but I will now try the folic acid and acidophilus. I'll probably buy the stronger kind of probiotic just incase. I'm not sure about the hydrogen peroxide but that's worth a shot. I've also read about boric acid capsules being inserted or bathing in tea tree oil. I'm not sure if that'll work but we'll see. I'll keep ya posted but again, I'm REALLY happy that I'm not the only one who suffers from BV.

I do know that everytime i've been diagnosed with BV (symptomatic going on 11 years now) my doctor has told me to have my BF treated as well.

So i do believe that they should get tested. But i am pretty in tuned with my body, and i know that when the "Smell from Hell" pays a visit...it's my VJ trying to tell me that somethings going in her that ain't right!!! (lol)

Definitely communicate to your BF that your VJ is sensitive to foreign bacteria and that he should be considerate enough to make sure that he's taking care of his PJ (i know that was a dry attempt, but you know what i mean).

I have suffered from BV for 2 years, since I started with my last boyfriend/ husband. The smell came and I got treated for a "dis "ease" ". The clinic told me at 55 that I didn't know how to wipe. Puleeez. Anyway the antibiotic caused a yeast infection and the cure for the yeast infection brought back the BV. It did not start until I started having sex bareback. I thought it was me. It was soooo awful. My daughter turned me on to the site. I cried. So many other women were having the same issue. It works, but you must maintain a regimen. 1/2 water and 1/2 peroxide. I take 1 billion acidophilus, and 1mg presciption strength folic daily. After about 4 days, the smell, itching, is gone. I find this is the key. You have to douche, once every 2/4 weeks, but you have to maintian taking the pills. They will not harm you. I slipped off the wagon (stopped taking or doing anything) and it came back. I have started again and have been free for 6 months. I will take the pills. The smell, irritation are so unbearable. Good luck

I have suffered from BV for about 10 years. I didn't know what it was. I also suffered from UTIs. I divorced my husband and I no longer get the UTIs but still have the BV. I thought the smell just went along with the UTI. I was too embarrassed to ask the doctor about this so I researched my problem and found this website. What a blessing!! I started taking 1 tablet acidophilus and 1 folic acid 800mcg in the morning and evening for a week. I also did the 1/2 water 1/2 hydrogen peroxide douche for the first two mornings. After the second day, the smell and discharge was GONE!!! The biggest test for me was when I finally had sex again. No smell! After a week, I stopped taking the pills. I figured I was cured. It's been over a month. The BV did seem to try to come back. I have found that I need to take 1 acidophilus and 1 folic acid pill every day to maintain. Also, after sex I use the hydrogen peroxide douche. Thank you for this website and to all the ladies that shared their stories!

I am concerned and frustrated. I am glad I found this website though. I would like to tell you all my story in hopes that I can finally end the vicious roller coaster I am on. I have researched this condition over and over and know now that antibotic remedies only make this problem worse. However, I have tried some other remedies that don't seem to handle my problem either.

I told myself I would never ever do this, but now I'm desperate. I was teamed up with some people from rockwell nutrition, but my results with their expensive protocol have been mixed. I spent hundreds of dollars on expensive herbal remedies that didnt seem to help me and now I'm scared. I understand the implications of this problem and do not want to harm myself with natural remedies.

so, that brings me to my current state of affairs. I have been suffering for almost a year and a half now with bv. I have tried oral antiboitcs, and boric acid, as well as flagyl and some other thing (metrogel?). Nothing has worked.

I am asking for immediate advice. I am scheduling a drs appointment tomorrow to rule out any other pelvic problems. I had tried taking borax for this, but end up with cramps and this has freaked me out enough to send me off to the doctor.

so, about this whole hydrogen peroxide thing? does it work? even for resistent cases? what else is out there that can help me? what do I need to do to permanently solve this hell of a problem. I am no longer sexually active, and this thing called bv is the reason why.

are these douches safe by teh way? i know if you have bv for years the lining of your vagina can become weak and I do not want to risk any toxicity (yeah, a bit paranoid about even treating this thing). why is folic acid so important? are there any other methods I should be aware of to try?

please help. I'm desperate and in so much misery I could scream. I will leave you with a list of my current symptoms as well so you can best judge my situation.

odor (not fishy, more like urine)
discharge.
itching
burning
soareness

thanks and I hope to hear from you all soon. I need help and affordable help at that.

I was suffering for 2 months straight; had been treated for yeast infections twice before I was told it was BV. Took the meds (metro...) didn't work. My symptoms were similar to yours (no fishy smell, but more like urine). I tried the Acidophlilus(took 2 orally & inserted one nightly), Folic Acid, Zinc, and B-12 vitamins (as directed on bottle). It help but the BV was still there. I noticed when I missed my Folic acid dose it would get worse even while using the acidolphilus....(a ha)! So, I researched & began my experiment and I stopped the acidpohlius and got some cranberry tablets (because I noticed that I was urinating more w/ slight pelvic discomfort and the discharge was around the top part of my vagina (urethra/clitoris)w/a constant burning; I've been taking the folic acid, zinc, b-12, and cranberry tablets 3 days and I am symptom free....no joke. I also used the peroxide twice daily to wash that area and have changed my undies to white cotton only w/ unscented pantyliners (when neccessary). I have a mild dischage which is returning to normal but no more discomfort.

I've read that some causes of Bv is: oral sex, contaminated: sex toys, clothing (like PJ's, towels, & etc...)but get: this my best friend was asked by her Dr. if her sex partner has diabeties (too much sugar in his semen) since a high sugar diet can also trigger an imbalance in the vagina. Acidophilus is good, but will not work for everyone. also, one last note: BV is an unbalance/ bacteria in the vagina- it appears that a poor diet & vitamin deficiency could be the #1 problem. Ladies we are eating meat (from animals) and foods that are being pumped w/ steroids, hormones, and antibotics in high quantities (hence the bacteria & imbalance in our bodies), so until we change our diets we will continue to suffer w/ this condition. Something has to be done becuase it's beginning to affect our younger women/ children as well. We're dealing w/ chronic infections, pre-menopausal symptoms (at 30 yrs of age, facial hair, and the list goes on because of the mess we consume in our bodies). Its' time to take a stand and take control of our health!

Thank you all for sharing and God bless.

thank you so much for your response and your speedy response at that. how much folic acid did you take daily and did you douche with hydrogen peroxide? (douching freaks me out still, but if that's what I gotta do that's what I gotta do). If so, how did you formulate it? It's nice to know the effects of acidophilis. Its funny you mention cranberry tabs. When i first came down with this, i had mild pelvic pain and burning too on urination. It was so intense I was literally dubbed over in pain at the gynocologists office. I was put on heavy course of antibiotics for a widespread infection (scary I know. )I do not have diabetes, but my ex did have quite a sweet tooth. and why white cotton only?

You've been an amazing help! thank you so much! I hope to hear back from you soon so I can start my own recovery here. This site is such a blessing!

No problem, Glad to be of help! First: only white underwear because the colorful onee contains dyes (not good for your vaginal health). I take 2- 400mg (folic acid), 1- 30 mg zinc, 1- B-12 tablet, and 2-canberry tablets in the morning. I didn't douche w/ the peroxide/water combo, but I did wash the area w/ it. At night I take 1-400mg folic acid, and 2 more cranberry tablets before bed. Drinks lots of water (try adding lemon juice) becuase the lemon juice is benificial in detoxing/cleansing the body. Also, if you're feeling irritated still, insert plain yoguart vs douching; it should stop the buring immediately! I told you about the slight discharge that was left (so last night I inserted the tampon soaked in yoguart)...no discharge detected at all so far and half the day is gone. I myself was not a vitamin taker at all and I was inconsistant w/ my diet, also a major junk food eater (sweets, cakes, pastries, etc..) I have cut all that out and I hope to develop a healthy eating habit to strengthen my health/immune system. I think we can cure it by eating wholesome natural foods and making sure our bodies have the proper nutrition/vitamins it needs.

Good luck.

After 2 months of trying the douche, folic acid and acidophilus combo, my BV was much better but definitely not cured. Thanks for the tips ladies.

I tried Goldenseal 4 days ago (1 capsule inserted at night, panty liner the next few days) and already I have better results than 2 months of the combo mentioned above. No smell, no irritation and no more globs of discharge all day. I am still afraid to sing its praises as it's only been 4 days but it's worth a shot for those of you trying the combo and still experiencing symptoms!!

Just wanted to say TY!! To all the ladies. I've seen results hours after douching with 1/2 water and 1/2 H202. I've always taken 1 800mcg Folic acid and also acidophilus with breakfast and then with dinner. But I still have slight itching. But no where near the degree as before. I've struggled with BV for two years and could not go to a doctor. I have no insurance. But I'll come back and update everyone after a week. So far the smell is gone and I have normal discharge. Thanks again.

Abstract
AIM: The authors have evaluated the real efficacy of using hydrogen peroxide for previously treated recurrent bacterial vaginosis that is resistant to other forms of treatment. METHODS: The study included 58 women aged between 18 and 42 years old. Vaginal irrigations with 30 ml of hydrogen peroxide (3%) were prescribed in the evening for a week. The follow-up was carried out 3 months after the end of treatment. RESULTS: The results clearly show that the use of hydrogen peroxide in vagina can eliminate the main symptoms of bacterial vaginosis, and in particular the malodorous leucoxanthorrhea in 89% of cases at 3 months after the end of treatment, a result that is comparable to that obtained using metronidazole or clindamycin as a vaginal cream. Moreover, hydrogen peroxide facilitates the restoration of normal vaginal bacterial flora (represented by H202-producing lactobacillus) in 100% of cases and normal acid pH (pH<4.5) in 98% of cases; it also fosters the disappearance of clue cells from vaginal smears and anaerobic pathogenic flora from vaginal secretions in 100% of cases. The amine test became negative in 97.8% of cases. All results underwent statistical analysis and were found to be statistically significant. CONCLUSION: Hydrogen peroxide represents a valid alternative to conventional treatments for recurrent bacterial vaginosis, and associates the absence of collateral effects with low costs, excellent tolerability and real therapeutic efficacy.
