Effective Natural UTI Remedies for Quick Relief

Cream of Tartar

The fastest remedy for urinary tract infections I have tried.

I am amazed that cream of tartar is not included in the list of remedies for UTI's.

I have been hounded by them for years but last year I had an incredibly bad time with them recurring, particularly in the summer when I was perspiring a lot in our intense heat. I would drink copious amounts of water to counteract this but would often end up with a weekly infection anyway.

I tried cranberry tablets, D-Mannose, apple cider vinegar without quick success. It usually took a week or longer of treatment to feel as though I was OK. Then, I found one post in my internet search, by a lady who suggested cream of tartar. As I have it in my pantry, that was an easy one. 1/2 tsp in a glass of water stopped the infection and ALL the symptoms dead. With the cream of tartar, the pain and discomfort, brain fog, disorientation and weakness, etc. all vanished WITHIN MINUTES.

With most remedies, they work for some and not for all, I agree. However, my husband started to get the burning sensation one night after not drinking as much water that day and I suggested he take the cream of tartar. Within minutes he was comfortable and that was the end of the UTI for him. He was amazed.

A few days ago I heard my sister had a serious infection with blood in the urine, brain mush as she calls it, weakness, etc. She had been suffering for four days, although she was taking many of the remedies mentioned here. She was no longer passing blood but still had all the other symptoms. I told her about this remedy and suggested she at least try it as she had nothing to lose. So, she popped down to the local supermarket and paid $3.75 for 125g (how cheap is that for something that works! ) She was totally amazed that her symptoms also left and she could go back to work with a clear mind - no more fog.

You only take it when you feel the symptoms appear, not as a preventative.

This is now our go-to remedy for UTI's.

Judging by the comments here, it is a shame that most people have not heard about this SENSATIONAL remedy. Nothing else has worked as fast as it does for us!! Most people I have known in the past with these infections, have to take other treatments for days or weeks before they start to feel well again.

If you have tried everything else, without success, or your favorite remedy is slow to work, you might like to give the speedy, but humble cream of tartar a try.

It is an old remedy used frequently for various diseases, by doctors before big pharma showed up.

Who would have thought sugar would be be the cure for my constant UTI's? D-Mannose has made my life so much better. Every 2-3 months a UTI would flare up. It has gotten to the point where I can feel it start and know immediately what it is. I would go to the doctor to tell them. Hey! I don't need the lab tests. I know my body. They would roll their eyes. They need do the lab test anyway. The tech would call... Surprise! You do have a UTI.

After a while, the drugs and doctors visits were overwhelming. I found out of D-mannose on this site. It is a wonder! Now when I feel a UTI coming on, I take a couple doses of D-Mannose for a day or two and it is gone. I has changed my life for the better.

I am a 50 year old woman who has never been sick, had a uti, etc. Daily, I work out and take 10,000 ius vitamin d 3,3,000 mgs vitamin c, 2 tablespoons coconut oil, 1 tablespoon raw manuka honey, acidophilus, keifer and fermented foods.

2 months ago, I ate at a restaurant and got diarrhea. Note to self, don't eat out again. I noticed a strange pressure after urinating but had no idea what it was. My husband suggested kiegel exercises.nope, didn't work. Then after about a month I had a strong urge to urinate. After googling thought uti and went and got test strips. I was so upset. I started on d-mannose after reading online for natural cures. I refuse to be put on antibiotics. I felt like I needed to kick it up a notch and did more research and discovered Dr. Cass Ingram's oil of oregano cure. Went to the vitamin shoppe, the manager also suggested oil of oregano. Came home and put 2 drops in some juice. Continued with the d-mannose. Here I am 3 days later after 2 drops of oil of oregano 3 x daily...no infection on test strip this morning. Yay. I also want to note that after first dose 3 days ago all symptoms were gone. I have read all the posts, and just wanted to add mine, in hopes it may help someone. Some posts are hysterical, and some are tremendously sad. I pray you all find a cure for your sicknesses.

I was glad to see your post as I thought I was crazy. Yes to the weak coffee. That's so interesting! Espresso is not helpful, but drip with lots of fluid is very helpful and I always have an improved stick test. I believe it speeds the delivery of the UTI-herbal-stuff that I put it in, It seems to alleviate the pain and give me a boost over the fatigue.

@LJ - Actually my research shows this as incorrect...so you may want to check into it before telling others (even though your doctor told you).

"The U.S. National Health Institute conducted studies that first showed the effectiveness of sodium bicarbonate dialysis in the place of normal dialysis. Patients placed on this treatment showed greater nitrate oxide synthase, which is a process that balances teh ph level of the blood.'

I'm not saying it's something you should do daily..but to say it causes the kidneys to burn out is not an accurate statement when used properly and in small doses.

Worth checking into.

After doing research I wanted something that would work fast because we all know how irritating a UTI can be. After coming on this site and reading about D-Mannose, I did further research and found out this is actually an effective remedy. I went to store and bought, although it's a bit pricey I didn't mind paying the price to heal myself. Once I took the first dose, I immediately felt some relief. I was taking cranberry pills also along with a probiotic. I highly recommend this and also uvi ursi also helps with UTI's. Hope this was helpful.

Editor's Choice I have had bladder infections for 42 of my 65 years, starting at the age of 21. I'm guessing 100+ infections - and that is not an exaggeration. I learned early on, that I am seriously allergic to Erythromycin, which is a common antibiotic used for bladder infections. So, Cipro became the antibiotic they always prescribed. However, eventually the bacteria became resistent & the Cipro stopped working. It was at that time (about 8 years ago), that I was beginning to embark on my alternative medicine journey. I decided I needed to find a holistic approach to treat & prevent my frequent, painful bladder infections.

I tried all of the other remedies (and then some) listed here, with little to moderate success: Apple Cidar Vinegar (ACV) Grapefruit Seed Extract Olive Leaf Extract Olive Essential Oil (EO) Cranberry Juice + Mannitol Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Lemon juice SOLE' made with Himalayan Salt Colloidal Silver Rosemary EO Thyme EO Sage EO Plus, the above 4 combined in a tonic. If I was persistent enough, usually, after a several days to a couple weeks, the infection went away, only to return within a month - meaning all of the bacteria weren't killed off & they eventually multiplied and increased, to form a full blown bladder infection.

A couple years ago, I came on the idea of using baking soda, to alkalize my urine, which would stop the bad bacteria from growing. That worked fairly well. But occasionally, if I didn't use it for a week after the bladder pain stopped, eventually a low grade would return, meaning the infection was returning. I think the reason the baking soda works, is that the bad bacteria thrive in an acid environment. The baking soda (and ACV, for that matter) turn the urine alkaline - thereby creating a hostile environment, in which, the bad bacteria can't survive.

Then, after more research, I came to the realization that I was missing one important fact: Sugar feeds bacteria. As long as I eliminated all sugar from my diet (including fruit & honey), my infections went away a lot faster and didn't return. I haven't had an infection in a year and a half. I eat very little sugar these days. But, if I go out to dinner, and do eat a few bites of something sweet, I will take 1 Tablespoon of the below solution. This seems to counter balance the sugar, which might feed bacteria in my urine. I do my baking soda remedy differently than the above member Kelly (Vancouver, Bc) on 07/27/2016 mentioned.

I use 1/4 tsp of baking soda in water, 3-4 times a day. To make a larger quantity, so I don't have to get the baking soda out multiple times a day, I do the following:

4 level teaspoons baking soda 2 cups very hot filtered water 2 cups cold filtered water 1- 1 quart (32 oz) glass bottle.

Mix baking soda in hot water, until dissolved. Add cold water to cool the solution. Using a funnel, pour water into glass bottle. Do not use plastic bottle or utensils, as plastic molecules can leech into the solution. Its also important to drink plenty of filtered water a day. I drink 8-10 [8 oz] glasses spaced throughout the day. If I am outside in the Texas heat, of course I increase that to 12-16 glasses, depending on how much I perspire.

Each 2 Tablespoons = 1/4 tsp baking soda dose. I take 3 to 4 doses spaced out through the day. Since this tastes really salty, making it taste awful, I add the 2 Tablespoons to 8 oz of filtered water. It still alkalizes my urine, and is easier to take.

I would caution against taking several teaspoons a day of baking soda, without keeping tabs on the pH of the urine. Most people walk around with a total body pH of 4.5 to 6.0. Ideal urine pH is 7 to 7.5. Having a pH higher than 7.5 is just as detrimental as a lower pH. Taking too much baking soda could push the pH over the ideal 7.5. So, if a person is taking baking soda, it is important to test their urine pH at least 2-3 times a day. Don't test first thing in the morning, as the urine is more concentrated, after the bladder not being emptied 6-8 hours over night. PH test strips can be bought on amazon dot com - a jar of 100+ strips for approximately $11-13 USD.

Editor's Choice For A bladder infection:

Baking Soda!! Haven't taken antibiotics in years since I found this remedy. It works during all stages. You get pain relief almost instantly as the Baking Soda will raise the acid-base balance of the acidic urine and clean your whole bladder out.Depending on how badly your UTI has progressed (how long it went untreated), here is my dosing schedule:

  • Day 1: 1/2 - 1 tsp baking soda in dissolved in water 3 times a day
  • Day 2: 1/2 - 1 tsp baking soda dissolved in water 2 times a day
  • Day 3: 1/2 - 1 tsp baking soda dissolved in water 1 time a day
  • Day 4: 1/2 - 1 tsp baking soda dissolved in water 1 time a day
  • Day 5: 1/2 - 1 tsp baking soda dissolved in water 1 time a day

You can continue this treatment from 3-7 days depending on the severity of the infection. Its important to continue drinking this mixture once a day for a couple days after symptoms are gone to make sure that it will not come back. If your UTi is severe you can do 3 x a day for the first few days if needed.

Don't drink this mixture on an extremely full stomach, as you will get a horrible stomach ache, but some food is fine.

Remember to take your vitamins as baking soda will deplete you of essential vitamins and minerals, particularly B vitamins, folic acid and chromium. Take a Vitamin B supplement and other daily vitamins if you are worried.

Drink an extra glass of water after your glass with baking soda and remember to stay hydrated, you won't kick this thing unless you are clearing out your bladder, which will only happen with lots of water drinking..

I think I got this bladder infection by not drinking enough water. Anyhow, it was bad, had to go to bathroom every few minutes and hardly anything got out. I understood it was inflammation of the urinary tract. I put some probiotic yogurt over there and it gave some small relief. Then I drank a big glass ACV and a bit later I took 1500 mg vitamin C. All this began in the evening and going to bed I could not sleep because of the pain and urgency to pee. 10 minutes after the vitamin C I fell asleep for a few hours. The next day I took 3000 mg vitamin C and so the day after. I also tried to drink a lot of water. That's it. Last time it happened I took antibiotics.

Cranberry

I got UTI in Colombia in Tayorona park. It was very humid and we did a lot of hiking, so maybe that caused it. The only medicine I had with me was cranberry pills. I did not have my regular medicine that I take to treat UTI. So I took about 15 pills at once (usually my day dose is 2 pills) and drank about 3-4 liters of water (it took me couple of hours to finish the bottles). I was staying in the bathroom all evening (literally I could not leave the room for more than 5 min so I just decided to stay in the bathroom). By the time I passed the whole water that I had drank I felt much more better and could go to sleep. The next morning the was no sign of UTI I had the day before. I know it may be a bit drastic to drink so much water in matter of 2 hours, but we were staying in isolated area with no access to pharmacy and I did not know what else to do rather than to force the bacterias to go out. It helped me. It happened 1,5 ago and since then I have not got UTI yet.

Thank you so much for this post. You were very thorough and it helps to know that like me other women are out there that are doing the right thing for their bodies. I have had yeast and bladder infections all my life. This one has not gone away in 2 weeks and is worse just before I empty bowels in the morning. I know the ecoli bacteria have something to do with it. My diet is very clean and I take supplements and probiotics. I've been on cranberry juice and d-mannose for two weeks. I got off of antibiotics for Lyme disease and every time that happens, the UTI is back. So I will continue to make myself better. You are an inspiration. I'm 64 and 110 lbs. white Female. all the best and thanks again. C.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda

I am suffering from recurrent UTIs, probably the aftermath of some antibiotics I have had to use not too long ago after surgery.

Anyways, I had felt some mild burning since a few days already, but only today the pain and need to pee every two minutes, hit me plus tinges of blood when wiping - it was not looking good, and I knew I needed to do something ASAP to try and eliminate the infection, or else it would be off to the ER.

First thing I did, was, heating up some water and pouring it in a small cooking pan, and adding some ACV (I did not measure it - just poured some in). Then, I wrapped my lower body in a big towel and sat over the pot on the floor, to allow the ACV/water steam to penetrate my nether regions. I do not have a tub, so this was the next best thing to a sitzbath. I felt relief almost immediately, though the urge to pee still remained. Hence, after the steam procedure, I took a small teaspoon of organic baking soda, and mixed it in a glass of water and drank this. Now, 30 min later, I feel so much better!!!

I prepped myself another glass of the water and baking soda mix, and will keep it next to my bed to sip on should I wake during the night.

I have not given this treatment 5 stars yet, as I still have to see how I will feel in the morning, but if I continue to feel better (and I will def repeat the steam procedure and water/ baking soda drinks for a bit), then this is an amazing home remedy. Thank you all for sharing!

Distilled water forever! It will not harm you! Rainwater is naturally distilled, and the "acidity" of distilled water is extremely weak, though low on the scale. The reason distilled water will cure a bladder infection is that it is the most cleansing water in existence, with full ionic capacity for flushing toxins, metabolic by-products, and pathogens.

They taste better so that's a big improvement but I feel that little bit more healthier.

I am 66...6 yrs ago the bloody uti's started......in and out of ER for years and on 3 1/2 years of antibiotics.

Cure: I think it was Dr Grisanti site, an article on uti.... Can't remember exact title... but women are routinely false positive on utis. Turns out it was kidney stones. Years of horrible pain like 1,000 razor blades in the bladder. Once in ER, I saw sand-like stuff in bottom of my urine cup and I asked "Is that kidney stones"?

Dr said, "I don't know. If it is, the lab will pick it up." They did not pick it up~

Years later, all I did was start lemon water 1 qt morning and at night night fresh lemon vinegar and olive oil on food lemon dissolves the kidney stones! No more problem!

Thousands spent trying to get to the bottom of this. Also I suggest you get Dr. Hulda Clark book the cure for all diseases free pdf online or buy on amazon used for $4.

Baking Soda, Grapefruit Seed Extract
Posted by Mountaingirl (Asheville, Nc) on 06/10/2016
★★★★★

Editor's Choice I suffered from UTIs my entire young adulthood. It wasn't until I started eating healthier and generally living a healthier lifestyle, that they went away. Forward 15 years and I suddenly get the familiar feeling. I can't believe it. I turn to my usual herbal extract (Usnea/Uva Ursi) but the bottle I had was 15 years old.

This infection was aggressive. 2 hours within the first tingle, I had blood in my urine and I would estimate my pain level at a 7 or 8. I started taking the old extract and had some relief. Pain decreased to a 2/3. I only had enough for 3 doses, not enough to cure it.

I went to the store and found 1 more bottle of extract. I used it, as I had before but as soon as I finished the bottle, the feeling came back. I couldn't find any more extract so I purchased a $35 product with D-mannose and some use and other things. I was determined to fight this naturally and the blood in the urine had not returned, the pain was starting to increase to a 5 and my kidneys were beginning to ache - I knew I didn't have much time before I would have to go to the doctor. I also didn't want to use a $35 product.

I researched my old natural healing books and decided to follow the baking soda regimen used in WWII, before they had flu medicine (google: Mercola baking soda regimen) It starts with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in water every two hours. I use it for flu/cold successfully all the time and I figured this bacteria would be no different. I would NOT recommend using the suggestion to consume a tsp or more of baking soda at one sitting (google: baking soda poisoning).

I added to that, grapefruit seed extract which I also had on hand for successfully fighting cold and flu. I did 10-15 drops in 12 ounces of water, every 3 hours. This stuff is NASTY. I held my breath and it was still so bitter, I winced every time I drank it. I didn't want to mix it with juice and add sugar to my system.

I had cut out all coffee, all beer, all spicy foods, all simple carbs and sugar for 4 days. These are things I love. If I could do it, you can to :) I drank dandelion tea 1x per day. I drank LOTS of water. I peed often to remove bacteria from bladder faster.

So, essentially, for 2 days, I was taking baking soda every 2 hours and grapefruit see extract every 3 hours. When I went to bed, I had a glass of water with 1/4 tsp of baking soda that I would sip through the night. Plus the above additions.

In 2 days, the infection was gone...and this had been an AGGRESSIVE bacteria. I believe it would have been antibiotic resistant if it caused blood in the urine and such intense pain so quickly. It took me a full bottle of a tincture + other methods when normally one day and half a tincture bottle would have done it. I also believe that an increase in sugar and beer (we had gone to a party the day before)vmade my system week to the attack.

Colloidal Silver

Colloidal silver is amazing for UTIs. I have tried so many remedies: cranberry extract, raw apple cider vinegar, oregano oil pills, and d-mannose. For me, D-Mannose did work, but I got horrible gas pains using it (seems to be a rare side effect). For me, colloidal silver is the fastest and most effective way to get rid of a UTI. I just follow the directions on the bottle that I get. Mine happens to be 500 ppm (part per million) and the bottle suggests that adults take 1/2 teaspoon twice daily. Doing this 3 days in a row tends to clear up almost all infections, though you can always go longer. My bottle suggests that you not go over 14 days in a row. Though as a preventative measure to UTIs, I have changed my diet. I very rarely eat meat or dairy products and just consumed more veggies, fruits, and whole grains. Though meat tends to affect me more than dairy. I find that if I eat meat more than 3 days in a row, I tend to get a UTI.

D-Mannose
Posted by Ashley (Minneapolis, Mn) on 06/08/2016
★★★☆☆

I have suffered several UTIs. For me, D-Mannose did end up clearing up the UTI but at a price...I had horrible abdominal pains because of the gas buildups. I guess this is sort of a freak reaction that happens to some people, because my friend took it (as do many others based off of reading the reviews), and they don't seem to have this issue. I took the recommended dosage on the bottles. I got two different brands just to make sure one brand wasn't bad, but had the same reaction with both.

I have since switched to colloidal silver for treatment for UTIs and it works wonderfully, and is faster and more effective than all other treatments I have used. Also, as a sidenote, I have gone over 7 months without a UTI since I started to change my diet. Generally, I eat little to no meat or dairy, and lots of veggies, fruits, and whole grains. Though meat for me seems to be more of a culprit than dairy. If I eat meat more than 3 days in a row, I tend to get a UTI. It's crazy.

Bee Propolis

It's the first time I decide to contribute to the site, since I was helped in numerous conditions in the past. Nevertheless, despite the valuable advise, all these years I never seemed to find relief from UTI, a plague I thought I'd never gotten rid of. I'm now 37 and, other than the UTI's, a happy, healthy individual. I went through a nasty cystitis/urethritis once, caused by Esterichia Coli. Back then Mannose had helped, but I never felt well ever since. The year-long condition I used to suffer from, at least up until last month, is described as honeymoon cystitis.

Every time I've had a partner I had to live in an inhumane condition and suffer unbearable pain and misery, stinging, intolerable burning and urge to urinate which never eased, visits to the toilet day & night, totally unable to put up with underwear, go to work or do anything other than cry and suffer. I had tried everything. I was tested through numerous cultures of urine and vaginal fluid and the only thing ever found was Ureaplasma Urealyticum. I was given massive doses of antibiotics (once I had to take Vibramycin for 22 days), which didn't relieve me and only worsened my situation in the long run. I drank massive amounts of soda, my best bet being some minimum temporary relief. I am meticulously clean. I tried every natural aid in this site and elsewhere, literally everything, you name it, every bitter, gross herb/substance in nature. Homeopathy didn't help either.

Last summer, my cousin who's a bee-keeper, gave me a couple of bee propolis clumps to make a propolis tincture (I'm sure you can buy on-line, but here is the recipe, for those like me who want to try at home:

100gr. of pure, unprocessed propolis (cut in the size of peas) in a 720gr jar filled with 95% pure drinking alcohol.

Leave in a warm, dark place for 30 days, shaking the jar from time to time. After that, pour the tincture through a cloth in a bottle. Done).

Last month, exhausted from the year-long torture and excruciating pain I was suffering, I was driven to do something crazy: dampen a piece of cotton with drops of the propolis tincture and put it straight on my genitalia. The moment I did, I felt a horrible burning underneath, but my pain was so awful anyway (the night before I was peeing traces of blood and pus) that I decided I would put up with it as long as possible. I wasn't able to take it for more than 20 seconds. And that was it.

A couple of minutes after I had removed it, all pain stopped. I didn't need to go to the toilet anymore! I repeated an hour later. I drank a lot of water, ate a couple of garlic cloves, wore my underpants and went to work. I had my propolis bottle with me. The next 7-8 days I only had to apply the cotton once daily, in the morning, for a few seconds, and then I was ok for the rest of the day. I've also been taking 20 drops of the tincture in half a glass of water daily. Now, whenever we make love with my partner, I keep the old habit of rushing to the toilet right before and after, and at the slightest sign of unease I'm quick to apply propolis. I know I'll be suffering for about a minute, but I will be perfectly well the rest of the day/night - and without medication. Propolis is a wonder of nature, it saved my life and I really wanted to share it and help as many people as I can.

Thank you for your time.
