Relation of Nightshades to Arthritis:

I have tried this 'cure' with good results. It is hard to remove all nightshades but you notice when you have had some the next day (pain). Remove all foods of the nightshade family for six weeks and you will know! There is a link with vitamin d3 (sunlight) and consuming nightshades. Resource:

Wild Oregano Oil

I wonder if it is the anti-fungal effects of the oregano oil that is contributing to the pain reduction.

Has anyone tried colostrum to help their arthritis? 15 yrs ago, a friend of mine injured her shoulder (probably rotator cuff) when she fell while going for a run. After a year of trying many holistic methods to get rid of pain, she took colostrum and she said in TWO weeks the pain was gone. She didn't have arthritis, but so many people have shoulder pain, I figured it might help. I have not tried it myself as she just recently told me this.

I started using black cherry juice, one cup a day, back two years ago. I can't take arthritis meds so I was desperate. It took about two months for me to realize that something was working. The cherry juice reduced swelling and, consequently, reduced pain! I make sure to drink it very slowly and on an empty stomach since I am convinced that it works best that way. It's too bad that most people just look at me like I'm nuts when I try to get them to drink cherry juice and quit their meds. There are times although when I might strain a muscle exercising and I take a pain reliever but only on rare occasion.

Drinking cherry juice before bedtime puts me to sleep also! I can feel myself relax and fall asleep much faster without medications.

I love MSM for my back pain but it caused insomnia so bad I had to quit it for a while. I can only take 1 in the morning.

Thanks about the Epsom salts. My knuckle had been hurting a lot for two days. This morning I could not sleep it hurt so bad. I got up at 4:00 AM and made up a bowl of bath-hot water and a handful of Epsom salts. I soaked it about 3 minutes and like magic all the pain was gone. Nothing else I had tried worked. I love Earth Clinic and the generous people who share here.

For arthritis, read up on serrapeptase please and the testamonials on any site you find... it sometimes (not usually) takes weeks even months for some but others have improved DRAMATICALLY within days :)

Hope this helps- it's an amazing product from all I've read.

Hi Nora, I know this is an old post, hoping you get notifications. If you add some ground black pepper to your tea it helps to bring out the medicinal goodies of the turmeric, do not need much, 1/16 t. to 1/8 t., adjust to taste. Gives a teeny kick to the tea. Hope you get this.

A lot of arthritis pain is caused by poor diet.

I used to really be a junkfood junkie and it took a long time for me to be willing to eat real food but now that I am I feel much better. In addition to cutting out everything that isn't real food you might try going off of eggs, dairy, because that is the culprit in many situations. I hope you find what is causing the inflammation and get to feeling better real soon.

I heard a story over the weekend about turmeric and black pepper so I thought I would update this thread.

My friend said that she took turmeric with noticeable results. But when she took turmeric and black pepper it made her feel inflamed.

Obviously turmeric does not need black pepper to work and black pepper isn't for everyone.

A fascinating thing to me about natural treatment is how individual it can be. It is as much an art as a science.

Dear Robert Henry,

Well, your story about how a family doctor got your father out of a fib is fascinating! My great-grandfather was a doctor in rural NC around 1900 or so. He did house calls. He charged $5 to deliver a baby. Or sometimes he would be paid for his services with a bushel of apples or wheat. Times have surely changed. I never knew him but have seen his accounting books. Amazing.

Regarding cayenne...I love it myself. It has helped my family with strep throat, hemorrhage, poor circulation....among other things....I know it is used as a catalyst and maybe it would do that for turmeric for someone who cannot take black pepper. Apparently, black pepper is used to potentate turmeric because of the piperine in it, which cayenne does not have.

I would love to come up with an experiment to see the difference in how turmeric versus tumeric/black pepper versus turmeric/cayenne affect healing. Maybe some day!

MAMA,,,,,,,,,, I have no clue, but all my reading says that Cayenne is the KING. This spice will make all others work more better. Think it is because it causes the blood to thin and gets to places spices normally would not otherwise go. That is the reason I take it when I go into A FIB. My Dad had an A FIB and it killed him instantly when the clot formed and hit his brain. His problem was in yesteryear. Ole Doc Ranier would come to the house and take a handkerchief and pull on his tongue. If that did not help, then he pushed on his eyeballs until he could not stand it. Then he would have him stand up and hit him right in his heart. That usually worked. Times have changed a little, but I can almost promise you that most doctors cannot get you out of A FIB. They tell you to go to the emergency room after 24 years of schooling. Welcome to American medical education.

I do not do rat poison, but do Nattokinase because it does the same thing, but does not create a whole new wing at some pharmaceutical plant. You really help people with your down home counsel and I commend you.

There are getting to be fewer and fewer of folks on EC that have been half way around the watermelon. We do have some bright ones coming on like ART. I was so delighted to see Joyce of Joelton, Tn posting recently after several years of absence. She has sent us all to school over the years. Sorry to veer off subject, but you know I's a story teller.

I wish you well. =====ORH=======

Can you [or anyone pls clarify? Turmeric what? Tincture perhaps? One Tsp would seem to indicate a fluid but it can also be chopped fine out of the fresh root!

I have been a Turmeric fan for several years since I discovered that the Tincture will eradicate 'phantom itches' in minutes. I also use it in raw plant form; a great herb!

I too am amazed. After just three days of taking 2 teaspoons of molasses a day, I noticed my hands were lot less painful. Now after about a month there is rarely any pain at all, the awful grating noise in my thumb joints has practically disappeared and my hands look a lot less swollen and deformed. How does it work??!!

Posted by Miter (Ca) on 02/08/2017

I have tried just about everything for my swollen joints in fingers from arthritis. My index finger at the first joint closest to the fingernail (distal interphalangeal joint) has been swollen for months. I even have burning sensation near the nail.

So yesterday I started an experiment:

1 tablespoon Baking Soda + 1 Tablespoon molasses. I will start at once a day and then go to twice a day to see if it helps the healing anti-inflammatory process.

Now, I know molasses is high in calcium which is an added benefit.

Blackstrap molasses contains vital vitamins and minerals, such as iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamin B6, and selenium.

I am willing to try anything.

Thanks, ORH. I did stop in and get some msm tablets. Last night, I mixed up some dmso with my mag oil because I have terrible leg/feet cramps at night. I'm sure it will help once I get it built up to the correct level. I take potassium, too. For my arthritis, I've been applying tiger balm which doesn't help much. Think today I'll put the dmso on over it. I have an msm lotion but it's like 15%, so I can add some dmso to that and increase the dose. Will have to think on that one. I get awful reactions when I try anything new, so the msm tablet (should have gotten powder) I dissolved in 1/3 c water and took 1 tbs of that. Also, what I got has sorbitol in it so I"ll hve to pay more attention next time. Thanks for your help. I did do more research yesterday and see that 'organinc sulfur' is apparently not msm and not the garden kind, but a unique product that is not widely advertised and you have to work to find it.

MOM,,,,,, just hold on. Don't take that sulfur, least you will end up in your local ER. I took issue with the organic sulfur poster and figured they would mess some folks up. Think they were referring to MSM which we do for arthritis. Suggest you go to a nutritional store and talk to them. They have MSM capsules. Normally folks buy 1000 mg capsules and initially take one to two a day with meals. Increase slowly as gas can be a side effect. You can get a good liniment and follow that with your DMSO. Won't solve your problem, but should give you some pain relief. You are smart to try to get clarification and this should be a lesson to posters that they can cause grief, if not careful.

Wish you well. ======ORH======

I don't know what you mean by 'organic sulfur'. I have dmso and msm. I also have a bag of 100% pure sulfur that is used in my chickens dustbaths for pest control, as well as other uses in the garden. I'm really having an issue with my index finger knuckle--feels swollen like it needs to pop but won't and it hurts. Do I take this garden sulfur? How much? I have empty capsules I can put it in (it smells bad! ). The msm lotion and dmso don't seem to do anything for this pain, but it's only been a week of 1x/d application. I open mail at work-lots of mail- and this makes it really hard to do my job. Thanks.

For arthritis, I would add some 'borax' to the mix. Borax is touted as the single miracle cure for arthritis in some circles. It is said to balance all the hormones, too. Some call it the natural viagra. There are dozens and dozens of links with all sorts of testimony's to peruse. I use the "Mule Team, " brand you find in the supermarket near the laundry soap section. I bought some Chanca Piedra to get rid of the bone spur. In two days, the 20 years of joint pain was gone. I have shared this with many friends and relatives and they also are pain free. Arthritis in my hands and knuckles has been cured with tweezers and hundreds of days picking and soaking. It was so bad my thumb wouldn't even open. I had been a machinist, welder, gardener and hiker. Each of those pass-times had added foreign objects into my skin.

Burns, cuts, grinding sparks, splinters, thorns and thistles were all complicit in my hand injuries. My hands were very obviously tough, calloused and curled into claws. As a machinist I was proud of my tough man hands until they lost their ability to serve me.

Last year I decided to try to save them and have been soaking in vinegar water, Epsom salts and tweezing away the callouses. This revealed things underneath that could come out.

A year later and a thousand hours of soaking/tweezing the end is in sight. My thumb moves and the fingers are well on their way to being teenagers again.

So there is hope for others that feel they can profit from this path.

Avoid or preferably eliminate all foods from the nightshade family (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant etc, google it) from your diet. It worked for me! It should be removed from your diet for 6 weeks to see results. I had a trigger thumb beside the painful joints which both are cured with this remedy. I also soaked my thumb in a hot bath of MSM.

It has everything to do with your vitamin D3 levels. If you have enough vitamin D3 it is not a problem to eat these foods (like in Italy :-)).

Just got sent to school about what's what as far as DMSO is concerned. In my day DMSO was made from Black Liquor from the paper industry. Now all that is by the wayside as of 2010. Now DMSO is made the same way worldwide. But like anything else, some make a more pure product than others as with all companies.

I got into this research because some posters kept using the term Organic MSM. Cannot find any MSM product made from a plant. MSM is the product of the reaction of DMSO and Hydrogen Peroxide. Neither of these products are made from plants. So why is the term Organic used? My self, I think it's another promotion thing.

This article is what sent me to school. Hope it helps all to better understand that MSM is made in plants cannot be recovered for a supplement. That is down by a chemical reaction, which is not Organic.

ARETE,,,,,,,, you may be right, but I do not understand what you mean by organic MSM. I will tell you a wild story that gives credence to your position. This is a story of what happens when a novice gets involved and does not understand why purity is important.

As a freshman in '54 at Ga Tech, we had to make salt peter in our chemistry lab. We all know what this compound does to a male. We had a 4 man suite and my roommate was a 6' 4" kid from Texas. He carried a switch blade in his jeans watch pocket. He played the "BAD ASS" role.

My girlfriend had mailed me some cookies. I took my impure lab salt peter and put it on these cookies and left them on my desk. The next morning my suite mates asked me what was on those cookies because Tex ate some and became sick as a dog, throwing up, etc. That scared my mule, but not near as much as when Tex came in that afternoon, opened his knife, stuck it to my throat and told me, " Bobby, never do that again ". I was sweating bullets. That stupid stunt sent me to school that stays with me today....62 years later.

So you are right in that you should have the purist product available. Having said this, we take a 100% pure MSM made for horses and buy it from the farmers Co-op. If you want the best MSM possible I suggest Jacob Labs. Dr Jacob has passed, but his children are still running his company.

I wish you well. =======ORH========

Organic Sulfur

Robert Henry- I did further research on MSM and according to a study, Cellular Matrix Study by Patrick McGean, MSM is inferior to organic sulfur. When we found an article about the 16 "deadly" additives found in MSM—the anti-caking additives, we realized why our early participants were not reporting any health improvements. These additives benefit only the packaging industry; our health is apparently a lesser concern to them.

And according to Dr. Mercola, MSM is only 34% sulfur by weight.

I still think the best form of sulfur is Organic Sulfur.

Organic Sulfur
Posted by Arete (Rancho Dominguez Ca) on 11/15/2016

I am referring to organic sulfur. All MSM is sulfur, but not all MSM is organic.

Organic Sulfur

ARETE,,,,,,,, as you probably know MSM is a result of combining DMSO with H2O2. DR. JACOBS did all the lab studies for Crown Z and he suggested taking MSM orally and topically followed with DMSO to take it to your joints. One of his products contains both MSM and DMSO and is available on line at Jocobs Lab.

I put 1/2 tsp of MSM in my coffee every morning and it does not affect the taste.

I have made the same solution, 1 rounded teaspoon borax in 1 liter water. then for 7 consecutive days 3 teaspoons solution 3 times daily with meals. 2 days ago my tongue was swollen on the sides towards the rear of tongue. Also had some restriction swallowing food. Decided to take 2 days off. Today I am better. Tomorrow will take 2 teaspoons solution 3 times daily for 5 days and will reassess the dosage. I plan to try this for several months if necessary to determine if this treatment is good for me.

I would appreciate input from others, especially if using anti-inflamatory prescription drugs to treat arthritis, and if using borax has permitted you to discontinue using drugs.

Someone has to sell it. If it works who cares! If you have ever read his books you would know he is very knowledgable. He was a vet and performed many autopsies on animals before he decided to become a physician. He hated that animals get nutritional help when sick and humans don't.... They get medicated. He has been tireless in spreading the word. In his book he says down syndrome is a zinc deficiency that was cured in animals many years ago.... Yet humans are still born with it.... Shameful.

Well, my favorite disease is Arthritis. The reason why I love Arthritis is that it's easy to fix. And when you can fix something as horrible and debilitating and painful and expensive and as miserable as Arthritis, you get kind of excited about this concept of preventing and curing disease with nutrition. And so I tell people about this arthritis thing all the time. So let's have a quick look at arthritis.

Number one, 75-80% of all Americans over the age of 50 get arthritis to one degree or one type or another, and according to the CDC, the Center for Disease Control, 35 to 50 million baby-boomers are going to get arthritis in the next 7 to 10 years and there's not a single medical treatment designed to treat or fix it. Aspirin certainly doesn't fix arthritis, it causes gastric bleeding and death. Tylenol doesn't fix arthritis, there's 50,000 cases of kidney failure each year, 5000 so severe you need a kidney transplant. Then there's Ibuprofen, Advil, and Aleve, these things don't fix arthritis, and they cause liver disease in 2-5% of users including liver sclerosis, even if you don't drink. And then there's metholtrexate(?) and gold shots(?). These things don't fix arthritis, they subdue your bone marrow so that you can't make normal platelets and white blood cells. Then you have the granddaddy of all medical treatments for arthritis, Prednizone and Cortisone. They don't fix arthritis. They subdue your immune system which leaves you open to diseases far, far more horrible than arthritis, and Prednizone and Cortisone accelerates the loss of minerals from your bone. Something you don't want when you have osteoporosis and arthritis.

When these prescription medications and over-the-counter medications don't work anymore to relieve pain and inflammation, the only thing left for you medically is joint-replacement surgery. And I never liked to send my patients in for joint-replacement surgery, cause they never work out well. In fact, many times you are worse off after the surgery than you were before the surgery.

The advantage my patients have always had is that I'm a veterinarian as well as a physician. So I always used to tell my patients "Look, we have all these nutritional formulas designed to prevent and cure disease in animals, including arthritis, and so I tried adapting nutritional arthritis formulas designed to prevent and cure arthritis in pigeons and turkeys, dogs and cats, sheep, pigs, horses, cows, lions, tigers and bears to human use. It was no surprise to me, it works just as well in humans as it does in animals, because it was designed to prevent and cure arthritis in pigs. And of course it has some really nifty stuff in it, which I have been telling people to use for 20 years, and I have literally seen tens of thousands of people who have had a regrowth of cartilage, ligaments, tendons, connective tissue, bone foundation, bone matrix. Doesn't matter if they are 20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90, I've seen people 97 years old regrow cartilage and bone, even if they had bone to bone arthritis. If there's blood supply to that joint and that bone, they will regrow bone and cartilage.

Well, Harvard Medical School goes berserk when you say stuff like that. "Wallach, you can't say those things! And the only thing left when they get bone to bone arthritis is joint-replacement surgery. " And I would agree with him if the only raw materials you are using is Tylenol and aspirin and Prednizone and Cortisone. We have learned over 50 years that you can't regrow cartilage and bones using those things.

Now one of the basic things, of course, that the Harvard Medical School jumped on and said "this is so ridiculous that this couldn't work! " And so they took 29 arthritis patients who had not responded in any way to heroic medical treatment for arthritis over 15 to 20 years. They took them off their medication, it wasn't working anyway, lined them up for joint-replacement surgery, and for 90 days before their surgery they gave them heaping tablespoon of ground up chicken cartilage in their orange juice every morning for 90 days. They were sort of chuckling in their beer saying "nothing is going to happen". Well, here's what happened. In 10 days these people had complete relief of pain inflammation that they hadn't had in 15 to 20 years. In 30 days they could open up a new pickle jar that had never been opened without pain to the fingers, wrists, elbows and shoulders. In 90 days 28 of the 29 were clinically cured. Now this is from the Harvard Medical School and the Boston VA. That meant that they had complete return, 100% return, of the range of motion, all of the pain and inflammation was gone, in their fingers and toes and hips and knees and neck, and certainly many of them still had knots on their fingers, cause it was only 90 days, and you would think they would call me up, these professors from Harvard Medical School and from the Boston VA, and say "Look, Wallach, we have to apologize to you. We've been bad-mouthing you for 20 years and why don't you come up to Boston, let's talk about the whole thing?" Here's what they said, "After 3 months it was clear that the drug was beneficial."

Chicken cartilage had become a drug in 90 days! Now why would that happen? Well, because you can't patten chicken cartilage, and they convinced the US Patten Office that they were using a drug to do this study, and they actually got a use-patten on chicken cartilage. And you, too, for $3500 a month, can get Harvard Medical School's chicken cartilage in a capsule for arthritis. (You can get it for 30 cents a day, ha, ha). That's kind of interesting. And of course, cartilage or gelatine, has chondroitin sulfate in it, glucosamine sulfate, collagen, these are all the basic raw materials to rebuild cartilage and bone. Now again I have been telling my human patients this for 20 years. They've been using gelatine and cartilage for race horses for 100 years for their cartilage and ligaments and joints. And in 1995, a Luke Bucci, an exercise physiologist came out with a great book called "Pain Free", and he talks about the advantages of gelatine and cartilage and glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate and collagen for regrowing cartilage, ligaments, tendons, connective tissue, bone foundation, bone matrix, he does this with nutrition. He does this with glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate and collagen and cartilage and gelatine. Just a couple of months ago, a medical doctor, Dr. Jason Theodisakus, MD, wrote the "Arthritis Cure", subtitle "the medical miracle that can halt, reverse and may even can cure osteoarthritis."

Hi all. I recently discovered this website. Very nice. I have never before been into natural remedies. As I get older I am finding that the doctors don't have a clue. Sad to say because I like my doctors. So here it is, I have been using borax for arthritis for 2 weeks now. I had to call in to work today because the pain is so severe. Is this normal? I have continued to take most of my prescribed meds from the doc. Should I stop taking them in order for the borax to do it's job? Also my diet is not very good. Could this be making my reaction worse? I am 53 years old, 5' 6" and 250 lbs. Yes I know I am very overweight. Hopefully I can get through this and get back to moving around and start a regular exercise routine but for now the pain is just too much. I also take levothyroxin for thyroid, and am menopausal. Any advice any one can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Flax Oil and Cottage Cheese

I used the Budwig Protocol many years ago for an awful case of psoriasis and did my own research - I read Dr. Budwigs books and understood the science behind her great body of work. I followed her protocol exactly. In under 3 months, my psoriasis was history.

My point? Dairy products have many added pesticide residues and hormones - and many patients do not acquire a "cure" if they choose or cannot afford organic products. After reading Dr. Budwigs books, I understood why she had success and suggests her methodologies. I trusted her research - hence, I got cured. I eat her focc recipe (flaxseed oil cottage cheese) once a week only because it's delicious.

To do your own research - go to This source is very reliable because it was created by the yahoo moderator since the early 90's.

Flax Oil and Cottage Cheese

10 years ago a friend started me on a tablespoon of flax oil and a tablespoon of cottage cheese daily (the Budwig cure for cancer). After taking it daily for 3 weeks, I woke and my arthritis was gone. I called her up and two others had called recently with the same report. I'd had arthritis in my hands for 10 years by then, since around 35 years old. My mother had the same problem, and her knuckles changed shape in her 60s, causing constant pain and difficulty in movement.

This is not a 'magic bullet': it only helps about 20% of arthritis sufferers. There are several types of arthritis, and this apparently helps my type. It's certainly more useful than the NSAIDs that were only masking the symptoms. I've experimented over the years, and the type or brand of flax oil doesn't matter, nor does the cottage cheese. I do recommend cold-rolled flax oil and not heat extracted, though. The cottage cheese acts as a surfactant, and makes the oil more water-soluble and able to penetrate the cell walls. In Germany Dr. Joanna Budwig used something called 'quark', and cottage cheese is the closest American equivalent. I use low-fat 2% cottage cheese since I'm older and less tolerant of milk fat.

I did another experiment to prove the effectiveness: I quit taking it and went 'cold turkey'. After 2 months, the arthritis returned. I stayed off for a few more months, just to make sure. Then I started taking one tablespoon of flax oil and one tablespoon of cottage cheese again, and 3 weeks later my arthritis was gone again. I duplicated the same experiment 4 years later, just to be doubly sure. Same results: 2 months of no dietary addition, and the arthritis came back, 3 weeks taking it and I'm cured again. Obviously you can skip a week or two while on vacation with little-or-no ill effect.

If you research the 'Budwig Cure', it was originally a solution for cancer, but it's not a 'magic bullet' for cancer, either. You don't need to blend the two as Dr. Budwig suggests; I take one and then the other and let my stomach do the mixing. I do chew the cottage cheese thoroughly to make sure it mixes well in the gut.
