I woke up in the night with urgency and within a half hour was urinating blood and unable to get off the toilet. I have had many UTI's before so knew immediately what it was. Got online and saw the apple cider vinegar remedy. I drank 1/4 cup of organic ACV with water and honey. I also filled a pyrex cup with half vinegar, half warm water and then (in the shower) held it cupped around my vagina for about 8-10 minutes (it's a bit awkward but worked). I have to say the relief was almost immediate and I could actually go back to bed and sleep for a bit. I did follow up with my Doctor this morning. I will definitely use this technique at the first inkling of trouble again.

If you're having some positive results from regular vinegar, you probably just need to use it more often and for a longer period of time to get rid of that UTI for good. Some swear that it has to be vinegar with the 'mother', but obviously it doesn't. I use homemade vinegar, so it does have the mother (and it doesn't taste as bad). Best of luck to you!

Just wanted to follow up my post from 3 nights ago. The ACV bath worked! I have had no more bladder infection symptoms... zero! I did drink water with 1/8th teaspoon of baking soda for the next 24 hours to help with alkalinity.

Wow, I can't believe how much better I feel! I was getting a bladder infection tonight and went online to seek natural remedies for it after sitting on the toilet for half an hour trying to pee. I found posts about people taking baths with apple cider vinegar as well as taking it internally.

I didn't have much apple cider vinegar left in my bottle to be able to fill the tub with water and ACV, so I improvised and found an oval tupperwear container that was quite shallow. I filled 1/4 of it with Apple Cider Vinegar and the rest with hot but not scalding water. Then I squatted/perched over it, soaking my private parts in the Apple Cider Vinegar water. It eliminated the burning within 2 minutes. I stayed in this humorous position for about 10 minutes. I feel NO BURNING or PAIN or URGENCY TO PEE right now! I also took a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in a large glass of water so I think that is going to help as well.

If you need immediate relief from a bladder infection, try this remedy. The immediate relief is truly amazing! By the way, I couldn't help but think as I was squatting in the tub that this is what women must have done in the olden days when there were no pharmacies to go to for relief. It feels like an ancient and comforting remedy, I must say. God Bless.

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar: 1 tbs diluted in 1 cup of water; twice a day.

Would get a UTI after sex even after peeing. Many times bleeding occurred. Medications helped, but who wants to rush to urgent care everytime you have sex?! Cranberry juice works, but would give me a yeast infection from all that sugar.

Went to the ER twice thinking something serious was wrong with me but it was just my acid reflux. Hospital bills sucked! I knew I had to do something quick.

I began taking ACV at the first stage of a UTI. My urine began to smell and would go to the bathroom more frequent. I knew it would be blood and pain soon after. I took a chance and began drinking apple cider vinegar 2 cups per day. UTI never came back and it's been months! CAUTION: During treatment, DO NOT drink coffee NOR tea, it will come right back. I didn't know about tea, and it began to come back. I had to take 3 cups that day.

Since taking ACV, my acid reflux have subsided! No bloating, no nausea, no heartburn, no acid build-up in my throat. I feel normal again and don't look pregnant!

Apple Cider Vinegar has been my savior! I continue to take the same dosage everyday as preventative. Try it out!

Apple Cider Vinegar for UTI

A little over an hour ago I woke up and had the urge to pee. I could tell from the feeling it was going to be bad. I was right. I immediately put sea salt in a glass of water and gagged it down. It didn't help as much as I remember it helping previously, so I pulled up the Earthclinic site and read many of the ACV remedies. I put equal amounts of ACV and water, about a 1/4 cup each in a glass and drank it over about 15 minutes. I also had a tall glass of water to chase each gulp with. I read more testimonies while I waited for the time to pass. It's been about 45 minutes now and I feel about 85 percent better. If it is not completely better in a couple of hours I plan to try putting it in the bath and soaking. I will continue with ACV for several days, but based on multiple comments I don't think I will take it long term. I want this remedy to work when I need and I am concerned about building up a resistance to it. Thank you all.

I have to admit, I have not been consistent with it on a daily basis as I should be, but when I do, I can tell a difference; but I had a question, I have been using regular store bought acv, should I use a better quality like unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother to get better effects? it seems to be lingering around, I have been mixing it with lemon juice too; I mix 3 to 4 tablespoons of both Apple Cider Vinegar and lemon juice with a large glass of water usually twice a day. Thank u!

ACV for UTI: It worked for me! I would not have believed it if I hadn't tried it. A couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. I repeated it every 15 minutes to half hour. After three doses, I waited half an hour then drank 1/4 tsp of baking soda with water to settle my stomach. Three and a half hours after starting this treatment, I had absolutely NO pain, no more blood in my urine, no more urgency!

I didn't follow through with the protocol, so a week later it was back. I repeated the ACV and water treatment, once again it took 3-1/2 hours and again, no pain. I continued taking ACV and water three times a day for a few days after.

The following week I had my checkup at the doc's office. I told her what I had done. She got the lab result from my urine sample, said it was normal. I was stunned. I truly thought there would be some bacteria left and I'd still have to be on some antibiotic.

So try it and continue with the ACV for several days. Hopefully you'll have the same good results that I did.

I am 45 and have been getting cystitis since I was 16. I have found cranberry to be very useful in keeping the number of occurrences down, but usually when it takes hold I have to resort to antibiotics.

this time I thought I would first check out for natural remedies, and with 81 yeas decided to try acv. I put 4 tablespoons in a glass with warm water and drank it all in one go (through a straw as its not the nicest taste in the world lol), went to bed and in the morning, did a strip test for leukocytes.. it was clear! needless to say, very very impressed :)

Arm & Hammer doesn't contain aluminum - why did this myth get started? I read pure baking soda has no aluminum - ouch - poor
Arm & Hammer - they must be losing lots of customers and I am not a spokesperson for the company just a sympathizer

Re. Reoccurring bladder infections with regards to a catheter. Some Catheters have a silver wire along them. A friend with the same condition, says that at the clinic the ones with the silver wire do not get infections of the bladder. But the ones with the plain old catheters seem to get them on a regular basis. Hope that's helpful.

I have been paralyzed for 19 yrs and started having severe bladder infections immediately after my accident. I started using sterile gloves w iodine catheter kits that cost over 25 dollars a day and I still got them. After ten yrs of cipro and literally 200 to 300 infections the bacteria became resistant. I tried cranberry supplements and d monnase as well as other remedies and nothing worked. It seemed I would be on antibiotics forever. I have taken cipro, macrobid, bacterium, kelphlex , I have taken them all... Now after 19 years and over 500 infections (2 or 3 a month) I'm glad to say I have found a natural cure!!! I had an infection that macrobid was not fixing, so I thought I would try apple cider vinegar ( acv). I started by taking it w baking soda but realized after a few days the Apple Cider Vinegar was all I needed.... I read 6 tablespoons a day was the max u should take so I doubled it due to my severe infections and battle hardened bacteria.. By drinking 12 tbs or 6 ounce a day spread out (8am, 12pm, 5pm, 10pm) I saw immediate results. I use a catheter I pee into empty water bottles and recommend sufferers do the same So u can gauge the quality of the urine and adjust the Apple Cider Vinegar accordingly. The urine tells the tale evrytime and u can tell how the Apple Cider Vinegar is working by the clarity of your urine. I didn't get organic Apple Cider Vinegar either, I just used an old Safeway brand I had in the fridge. This is a life changer for me and the stress of recurring infections is gone!!!

I suffered from post intimacy urinary tract infection's for more than a year. The only thing that worked for me was taking one antibiotic tablet every time I was likely to get a UTI. I came on this website and decided to try Apple cider vinegar and it worked! I dilute 2 Tablespoons in a cup of water and sip this instead of taking an antibiotic!

I posted of incredible pain after taking the ACV and water.. By 2:30 am I called the Triage nurse at the VA, and after doing all the questions she said I should come in.. It was 3:00am and I just felt like the pain was too great to drive safely, yet not enough to call 911.. I had done grapefruit juice and olive oil 10 years ago, but thought I had to be on a semi cleanse before it.. Last ditch effort, I did olive oil, lemon and 1/2 orange, laid down and went to sleep. Woke up with no pain!

I've had UTI's for as far back as I can remember. Good hygiene and things like urinating right after my husband and I are intimate helped keep the infection at bay for nearly 3 years. But last week there were 2 consecutive times that I did not urinate after my husband and I were intimate and I felt the onset of a dreaded UTI. Doubled over in pain, I reached for my ipad and went to the earthclinic site searching for a remedy and hoping that it would be something that I already had on hand. I'm so glad I found this site! I filled a 3oz bathroom Dixie cup halfway with ACV and I filled the rest with water. I then drank two 8oz bottles of water. In about two hours I went to the bathroom PAIN FREE with no discomfort at all! I'm so happy! I took 3 more tablespoons of ACV for good measure.

UPDATE: In the morning I went to urinate and there was no pain or discomfort. In the past I would've taken antibiotics for at least 7 days, which always lead to more problems (stomachs aches, yeast infections, etc. ). I'm so happy I found earth clinic! The excruciating pain, urgency, and discomfort from the UTI was gone in less than 3 hours after I took ACV!

HI, Love this website and all the great natural solutions. I suffered from a bladder infection and a famous alternative doctor recommended D-Mannose. It really worked like a charm. Buy the product at the Health Food Store. I do also believe in the apple cider vinegar and lemon juice as a cure. Make sure it's the Organic apple cider with the mother in it. Here's to natural cures that really work, stay away from antibiotics if you can.

Thank you to everyone that suggested drinking ACV for UTI's/bladder infections. After several bouts with UTI's over the years, I was told that I am just one of those that suffers from chronic UTI's. I always took the meds as prescribed and they always went away, but last year I found myself battling BV and another UTI. I refused to take anymore meds and I found myself here. It has been a lifesaver!!!

On Tuesday, I noticed a familiar urge to urinate. I knew immediately it was a UTI. I stopped what I was doing and mixed together 2 Tbs. of ACV and 2 Tbs. of lemon juice into a tall glass of water. As the day went on, the frequency to urinate almost stopped. I continued to drink water throughout the day…. No sugar & no alcohol. Later that night, I had vitamin C before I went to sleep. I've continued to drink the ACV mixture every morning and evening. As of today, I feel no symptoms of the UTI, but I will continue to drink the ACV mixture for the rest of week. I hope this helps someone because it definitely helped me!!! I also pop in an oil of oregano caplet just for good measure!

You were SO correct about the Organic apple cider vinegar, fresh lemon juice & water cocktail for a suspected bladder infection.

I have only had one other in my entire life - perhaps 16 years ago; but the unpleasant sensation was in my memory. I waited (unfortunately) 24 hours before reading this post but I immediately made up a tall glass of 2 or 3 tbsp. Of The organic vinegar, lemon juice and H2o, drank it down and took a shower. By the time I stepped out to dry myself I was feeling immense relief from my symptoms.

A real lifesaver. I hope that if I continue on this regimen for a time I can avoid taking any antibiotics. Time will tell. THANK YOU!

I have to share my UTI story. I've only had a couple in my life and they are horrible. I've only been able to get rid of them with antibiotics. I had one hit me hard in the middle of the night about a month ago. I dragged my painful self to the computer and read about apple cider vinegar actually curing it. Many comments from women who attested to this. It was 2am and nothing open but Walmart. I had to buy some lousy brand. I mixed it with water and in about 15 minutes threw up. I went to the doctor the next morning and got the antibiotics. Took them for a week and still have the infection. I stopped any alcohol and sweets. If I had even a tiny bit of either, it hit me in my bladder.

I couldn't afford to go back to the doctor. I started thinking it would never go away. I finally got smart and bought some organic apple cider vinegar (unfiltered with mother in it - which, I believe all have). Mixed 1 TBS in a pint glass of room temp water. I honestly didn't even feel it just a few hours later. It's been a week now and I've been drinking it am and pm. Nothing! Normal!!!!! I've been reading about all the other benefits of drinking it and will continue to have a glass or two daily.

I've had a couple UTIs in my life and have always just taken AZO standard. This time was different, worse, I woke up in the middle of the night in so much pain. I didn't know what to do seeing I was at a friends, she luckily had an AZO but it didn't work like usual, I came on this site Thank god! I read about taking lemon juice and putting it in water, which was the only option I had cause she didn't have ACV. Lemon water didn't help I came home and got out the ACV right away took 2 tsp along with 3 tbs of lemon juice right away, took a hot bath and it did wonders! Waited about an hour and just took 2 more tsp with warm water. I recommend taking it with lemon juice, it takes away the nasty taste of ACV.

WORKED TEMPORARILY

I took ACV for a UTI within an hour of realizing I had one. The ACV helped with the symptoms (constant feeling of having to pee, major discomfort, pain) within hours, thank goodness. Kept the ACV up for 3 days. But ended up with a kidney infection and doubled over in pain. Got into the doctor ASAP, and am now on antibiotics. I will use ACV again for symptoms, but will get to the doctor as soon as possible next time to prevent spreading.

What if you always bleed with your UTI's? My pregnancies really messed up my tube from my bladder to the outside world. Actually since I was 17 I have always had blood, frequency, and burning as the first sign and believe it or not very little pain in my abdomen but of course not for when I pee. I want to do natural remedies to clear my UTI up. I bought no sugar added 100% cranberry juice, ACV, AZO pain relief and cranberry pills. I had a UTI about two months ago and the drugs made my body in really bad shape. I don't want them again. I want my body to fight this and hopefully grow immune to it. I had grandmother I never met die of bladder cancer. I also have an aunt who has my same issues of recurrent bladder infections. I just want to let my body do what it's meant to do. Build immunity to these bacterias. Women back before modern medicine lived through UTI's and kidney infections with natural remedies. I believe in them fully. So I think most necessary to go to a doctor is when you have severe pain in your flank area and just can't get rid of the UTI symptoms.

I'm a 64 year old woman. The reason I mention this is because a lot of women my age don't experience UTI symptoms the way younger women do, which can lead to a severe bladder infection without even knowing it. I had nausea, vomited a couple of times and thought I had h. Pylori. I took my husband's Prevacid and forgot about it, although I had a lot of pain under my ribs. Then I experienced dark urine, bought OTC urine test strips and it was positive for UTI. Went to the doc and was given antibiotics. Took the first pill and it really made me sick. Tested my urine the next day and no UTI. I started using ACV 3X day plus Uva Ursi as well as D-mannose before bed. I went on about my merry way. Still had a swollen stomach (up high under my ribs) that sent me to the doc again. They did tons of bloodwork and a urine test. The UTI was back. Tried 2 different antibiotics and they didn't work.

Finally sent the urine out for sensitivity testing. Got the results 2 weeks later) and found only one antibiotic would work. All the while I had none of the usual UTI symptoms.. Just felt shaky and weak and no energy. No burning when I went pee.. I was severely allergic to the only antibiotic that would kill the e. Coli. So what do I do? I decided to take 1/2 Benadryl with the antibiotic. It worked and I managed to take 3 pills. It went away but came back in 4 days. Took 6 pills and it came back in 5 days. This has been going on for 8 months, if you can believe it.

Somehow, at this point, I have managed to de-sensitize my body to the antibiotic, although it gives me a headache. I am taking it for 10 days. The shaky feeling and swollen stomach are gone. My point is.. If the infection is really deep-seated and has been going on for months like mine has, none of the natural cures will work. I had such faith in them and hated to go to the doc in the first place and certainly didn't want an antibiotic. I hadn't taken any of those in 25 years.

I would say to any older women, get some Urinanlysis test strips (you can get them MUCH cheaper online) and check yourself once a week if you feel odd. If it gets out of hand, these cures won't work. When I know I am free of infection, I will go back to using the ACV every day to make sure all is clear. I truly believe that had I not taken the ACV, the long standing infection would have gone into my kidneys. My doc is surprised it hasn't. Hope this helps someone out there who suspects there is something wrong, but doesn't have the common symptoms.

I've had blood in urine three times and of course we are told that such symptoms might be a tumor. But before going to an MD, I first tried colloidal silver to see if the problem was viral or bacterial. All three times the blood stopped after taking four or five "swallows" of silver over a day and a half.

Linda, it would be interesting to know your age because I think that my bladder infections came from dryness of the vagina. When my husband and I started using lube during intercourse the infections stopped. Also peeing afterwards and washing yourself helps. When I took antibiotics my doctor told me not to take the ten day cure, she said that 3 days were enough and that was true. And drinking enough water, that helps as well! I haven't had any for almost 18 months.

Dear Linda, I have a friend who's daughter has always gotten very bad bladder infections throughout her life. She was on antibiotics pretty much every 3 weeks. She would take a 10 day course and within a week she would have another infection. I suggested she take her daughter to a naturopath to see if she had any food intolerances. It turns out she did. If she stays away from Gluten she doesn't get an infection at all. I think it's been over a year since her last infection now.

There is some studies on why people get bladder infections when they are gluten intolerant and there is evidence that it effects the lining of the bladder which makes it easier to irritate. Alot of the reason why antibiotics won't work in this situation is because there is no actual "infection. " There is irritated bladder lining which will keep being irritated unless the antagonist is removed. So you should get a food allergy test and find out if this is the case or just test the theory out by removing gluten and see if it helps.

Hi Linda - In the book Apple Cider Vinegar by the _____ family (of the famous _____ Apple Cider Vinegar brand), they recommend the following for bladder infections:

Drink at least 8 glasses of pure water daily.

Drink the ACV "cocktail" which is 2 teaspoons of ACV in 8 ounces of pure water - you can add a little bit of raw honey or maple syrup but that's optional (if you're diabetic, use stevia). Drink this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, one hour before lunch and one hour before dinner.

Drink marshmallow herbal tea - two or three times daily. (I would imagine you could get this at a health food store)

Add one cup of ACV to a daily warm sitz bath (a large basin or a few inches in a bath tub).

Hope this works for you! Bess

Today after being on anti-biotics for a week, I still have an infection. Dr. doesn't know what to do? I still feel sick and want off this merry-go-round. I'm out of options. I have tried a natural way to cure myself and these now seem to be failing me. It has been a long, long year.

Please, please can Apple Cider Vinegar help and what is the protocol? It's a little confusing reading everyone's stories. Thanks Linda

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) should not be taken on an empty stomach as it can cause burning. Take it with food each time. This method is also an effective acid reflux/indigestion treatment for many. As far as long term benefits/issues, one should drink ACV with a straw to limit frequent acid contact on teeth.

How to take: 1-3 Tsp ACV (unpasturized, unfiltered) to 1cup water. You may add 2-3 tsp honey (preferrably raw, unfiltered) to make it more palitable.

Drink 1 cup, through a straw, 3 times per day with food.

Honey dissolves much easier in warm, not hot, water Hot water over 130 degrees will kill the good enzymes which make this treatment effective. If you prefer cold drinks make a large batch and refrigerate after dissolving the honey.

I went to the Dr's. less than a month a go for a UTI and was put on antibiotics for a week (which totally messed up my system). I woke up at 3AM with that burning sensation and wont be able to get to the DR's till Monday. I need relief and FAST! I remember my brother took ACV just because, so I looked it up. Figured it wouldn't hurt.... I mixed mine with lemonade, yes it still tastes horrible but it's been half an hour and already feel better. I'll continue to take it till monday. I dont want to be on antibiotics again. Good luck!
