[YEA] 11/10/2009: Katiec from Brevard, Nc, usa writes: "Yesterday, I tried some of the recommendations on this site for this accursed BV I've been dealing with for months. I kid you not, the odor was gone almost immediately! I am so thrilled! Here is what I used:
diluted hydrogen peroxide mini douche (using 2 partially filled eyedroppers)
2 acidophilus caplets by mouth (40 million)
folic acid 800 mcg by mouth
B12 500 mcg by mouth
1 odorless garlic capsule vaginally
At bedtime, I took another 400 mcg folic acid and placed 1 acidophilus vaginally.
This morning, I'm still fresh as a daisy. I cannot believe how easy this was. Will update as to whether is stays gone!"

11/05/2009: Smelley from Laval, Quebec, Canada writes: "Hi I just signed up and am looking for the Best remedy for BV.I see all the posts but I thought I might be missing a link to show how to use that combo remedy of H202, folic acid and acidopolis. Everyone is showing different proportions."
EC: No instructions from EC on that ailment, sorry!
11/06/2009: Dj from Pdx, Or replies: "Smelley,
There are no "directions". It is what has worked for that specific person. EC allows us all to give accounts and recommendations from our personal experience.
You need to find your own personal experience. Read over posts from others and then listen to your instincts. After a week or two you may need to tweak your proportions.
You will find what works really well for you. Your cost will be the time it takes to get it perfect for your body. Then you will be able to join us in relating your personal experience and hopefully help another along the way.
Good Health."
EC: Great advice, DJ, thanks!
11/08/2009: Pahlee from Phila, Pa replies: "In response 2 smelly, I read a post not 2 far back that there is no instructions on how much 2 take of whatever u r using, it is what best benefits and works 4 u, good luck."

[YEA] 11/02/2009: Fallenangel from Hallstead, Pa, United States writes: "After reading this site and all the suggestions from other women, I tried the 1/2 peroxide/1/2 water douche, 10mg acidophilus pills, and also added 400mg folic acid tablets to my daily vitamins. No kidding, within 1 day all symptoms were gone! I have struggled with this problem off and on since I had a hysteroctomy 8 years ago. After moving in with my boyfriend in July, it had become unbearable to me, the odor was horrifying, I didn't want any intimacy because of it. I tried so many "remedies" but nothing seemed to work very well or for more than a day or two. I read the feedback from other women on here 7 weeks ago and ran to the drugstore immediately. After douching with the peroxide/water mix, taking the acidophilus pill and folic acid, it was too good to be true! the first week I used the douche solution 3x to be on the safe side and took the vitamins everyday. I now take 1 acidophilus pill and a folic acid tablet daily, and have had no reaccurance at all. For less than $20 I was able to buy everything I needed and be free of this horrible problem. Much cheaper than my doctor visit co-pay, and much cheaper than the meds the doctor prescribed that only took away the severity of the symptoms. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the women who were willing to talk about this embarrassing subject on here!"
11/09/2009: Smn from Birmingham, Al replies: "It is important to find what works for your own body. I tried most of the remedies on this site and found so far that only two gives me satisfactory results. The tampon dipped in yogurt only worked for me for about several hours whereas the H202 and acidophilus douches worked longer for me. There is also a paste that I make using the contents of 2 acidophilus capsules and mixing with enough water to make a paste that I put up inside me. This has worked wonders for me! I have made some lifestyle changes (laundering my undies in only dye-free and fragrance-free detergent; unscented bath soap; dye-free fragrance-free dryer sheets, making sure the crotch on my undies are always white cotton, showers instead of baths; no commercial douches; no feminine sprays for "down there", etc) I have recently started keeping a daily log of which remedy I am using and how long the symptoms stayed away. In this way I can see what is actually working and stop doing the ones that are not producing the results I desire. Havent tried the apple cider vinegar bath yet but it is on my list."

[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 11/02/2009: Shelly from Lake Charles, La writes: "I have took 1600 milligrams a day folic acid. 200 milligrams of garlic a day. 2 billion a day of probiotic and ate yogurt. Done the hydrogen perioxide douche straight. I didnt add water. Did that for 5 days and 2 days later it was back. My question is how long should i continue? I started again and tired of taking the prescription that makes me feel horrible. Another question would b, if it stays is it hurting my body and should i continue to get a prescription cause it is an infection?"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 10/22/2009: Smn from Birmingham, Al writes: "I am extremely happy I found this site! After my most recent bout with BV and taking Flagyl (NASTY tasting) and Metrogel gives you a yeast infection afterwards. I got fed up and googled for home remedies for this condition. I read alot of posts on here & decided to try some of the remedies. I figured what do I have to lose?? The results shocked me and they really do work. Downside? You have to maintain the routine for life. It's worth it!
Here is what I do: douche wih 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 water twice weekly (douche with plain water afterwards). I eat one of those yogurt cups daily (make sure it has live active cultures in it). I take 800 mg of Folic Acid daily. Also two acidophilus supplements daily. I open up an acidophilis capsule and mix with enough water to make a paste then use a clean finger to put it up inside me. I do this twice weekly. I drink at least a glass of cranberry juice daily. I tried the tampon dipped in plain yogurt with active live cultures a few hours ago and I am smell free already!
I also made some other lifestyle changes: no scented bath soap, bubble baths or anything like that. I use unscented soap. I even purchased unscented laundry detergent and dryer sheets. I threw out all my old underwear and bought new ones. I only use condoms.
I admit I was afraid that douching would make it worse as I grew up thinking that ALL douching was bad. Depends on what you douche with. The peroxide douches have worked for me with no side effects. You have to figure out what works for you."
10/24/2009: Dj from Pdx, Or replies: "Smn from Birmingham,
I am really glad you have found a recipe that works for you in combating your BV.
May I suggest a word of caution regarding douching twice a week?
The key to controlling your BV is to get the good bacteria back into your vaginal canal. That is what the yogurt and acidophilus replenish.
When you douche with anything that kills bacteria/germs such as HP or vinegar or garlic you kill off the good bacteria along with any bad bacteria. Therefore the good bacteria never have a chance of establishing itself and creating a healthy, balanced environment.
You are right on the nose about no frilly soaps. The good news is when you get your BV under control you can indulge in a bubble bath every now and again with no real threat of a repeat as long as you take some simple steps after your bath. You need to make sure you rinse off with clean water afterwards and dry your vaginal area. (I use a hair dryer).
It is worth mentioning too that it is possible to have too much good bacteria from taking too much acidophilus. (Been there, done that) A person now has a bacterial infection with symptoms similar to BV but different.
You are on the right track trying to maintain some sort of routine but you shouldn't need anything more than a maintenance regimen of keeping the area clean and dry and taking your folic acid and acidophilus. If you eat a lot of sugar one day, take an extra acidophilus. The rest, your douche, paste, and tampon dip should only be used to chase away a flare up.
As for the sex, if you are married or in a long term, trusted relationship, having your partner wash his penis with soap and water prior to sex will virtually take away any risk of an infection popping up.
It may take a couple of weeks or even a month to find your bodies balance but once you do you will be able to have just as much reward with less hassle.
Good health to you."
10/29/2009: Sherry from Baxter, Ks replies: "A good probiotic from the health food store is the answer to vaginosis. The yogurt doesn't have enough good bugs in it and most of it dies in the gut. I take a probiotic with 16 billion good bacteria in it and it has cleared up my sinus infection and also my yeast. The good bugs kill off all the yeast. It is also good for bacterial infections since the bugs are good bacteria. I believe it will also help the immune systen for the flu season. I havent seen much about people taking a good probiotic for cures. a good probiotic is the answer to a lot of ailments. It would pay to do some research on this."

[NAY] 10/20/2009: Lola from Daytona, Fl writes: "Hi ladies, I tried the folic acid, acidophilus, H2o2 douche combo- and I an still very infected. I first tried it 2 or three months ago and i'm still using this combo daily. I was very disappointed. I am 40 yrs old and have had BV for almost 2 years!! this suxx. The most this combo does for me is keep my itchy burning symptoms at bay. I have no odor but I do have discharge. I have seen a great difference in switching to acidophilus from probiotics but nothing - not even drinking lots of water- keep it away.
Here's a question: Has anyone tried Don Quai or St. Johns Wort - since BV may be caused by a hormonal imbalance?"
10/27/2009: H from Bixby, Ok replies: "It takes a little trial and error to get it right. I have not had BV recur since December. I used the folic acid and acidophilous tablets orally for about a month along with other vitamins but haven't taken them for several months. I do eat yogurt 4 times a week.
About twice a month I douche with half apple cider vinegar/half distilled water (in a small disposable douche bottle). The apple cider vinegar can sting a little so I try not to do the douche too often. Every day in the shower I do a little splash of the following mixture: half hydrogen peroxide/half distilled water/10 drops tea tree oil.
This regimen, combined with vitamins and decent diet, seems to keep the BV (and yeast) away. I really think the apple cider vinegar douche was key for me. The hydrogen peroxide is better for me as a wash. Boric acid didn't work at all.
I just got a cosmetic procedure called labiaplasty to cosmetically correct hypertrophic labia minora. It is a plastic surgery to correct what some may deem a physical problem. However, I think an added benefit will be less tissue to collect bacteria and odor. This is certainly a radical choice and the jury is still out on 'why' or 'if' a woman should make such a choice. I certainly wouldn't recommend it for everybody but for me personally, I think it will help alleviate the excessive moisture and odor that have plagued me for many years. But time will tell.
I'll continue to use my apple cider vinegar douche and H2O2 splash as well."

[YEA] 10/08/2009: Joan from Atlanta, Ga writes: "Cure.
This works:
50 ml of 3% H2O2 50 ml distilled water - douche with this combo TWICE. Next, douche with an empty bottle of water. Afterwards, insert acidophillus. I purchased a brand that contains over 1 billion live cultures of various lactobillus groups. Wouldn't recommend inserting the pill as its hard to dissolve. I purchased a yest infection kit for the plunger, opened the pills and emptied the contents into the plunger. Adding a little yogurt helps keep the substance in place. Do this in the morning & at night for 3 -5 days. POOF! IT'S GONE! Also, ingest 400 mg of folic acid four times a day (totalling 1600 mg). I would also recommend a 10-day cleanse, fast, or parasite cleanse to erradicate all parasites from your body after getting rid of the bv to make sure it doesn't come back. Change diet, cut back on alcohol, cotton panties, "air out" at night, and eat lots of yogurt to keep it away. Hope this helps. "
10/09/2009: Jennifer from Chicago, Il replies: "I have been suffering from BV for about 8 months. Thanks to the blog, I've tried a combination of items that I've read. For about 30 days now, I have been free of all symtoms. What worked for me
1) Collodial Silver douche as well as taking 1 tbsp orally 2x / day
2) 800 mg folic acid 2x / day
3) Probiotic 1x day
4) Acedophilus 1 billion capsule 1x day
5) Capsules which contain Caprylic Acid, Pau D'Arco, Grapefruit seed extract and tea tree oil (found at nutrition store)
6) Vitamin C 1000 mg capsules
I highly recommend taking capsules versus tablets.
The hydrogen peroxide douches didn't work for me. When I changed to collodial silver douches in conjunction with the cocktail of vitamins/supplements above, I really saw results quickly. Try different combinations of what is recommended here. Clearly one persons solution doesn't work for all but relief is out there when you find the right combination of healthy remedies.
I'd like to thank everyone on this blog for all of the recommendations. Without your feedback, I don't think I'd be cured."

09/29/2009: Rini88 from San Francisco, Ca writes: "Hi -
I started getting BV about 4 years ago. At first it was VERY sporadic, just happened twice in a span of two years. But since I met my current boyfriend a little over a year ago, it began happening once every 2 months. The discomfort can actually be crippling sometimes, and I often found myself chasing after prescriptions & running to the pharmacy time and time again.
BUT, I found this site last night, when the flare up began...and let me tell you TWO HOURS later I was feeling better, and woke up this morning without a problem. All I did was a combo of:
1) Hydrogen Peroxide Water (equal parts) douche
2) 1 pill women's multi vitamin, with Folic Acid
3) 1 pill probiotic (Acidophilus)
THAT's it. I'm back to normal! After reading everyone else's responses, I am definitely going to limit the douche to only when I get a flare up / after my period. I'm going to continue taking the vitamins & probiotic, once a day, just because they're healthy. And, I'm going to add yogurt to my diet!
Thanks to everyone for their helpful testimonies - I can't believe I'm feeling 100% in a matter of 12 hours (it doesn't even ease up that fast with anti-biotics!)."

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 09/08/2009: Jessica from Kenosha, Wisconsin writes: "I have been suffering from BV since March. Now, granted that's not as long as many of you ladies on this website, but let me tell you, I am ready for it to go away FOREVER! I am 20 years old and can't go an hour without running to the bathroom to make sure I don't smell, or have too much discharge. Well anyway, I tried the acidopholis, folic acid and H2O2 douche. I started off with 1600 mg of folic acid twice a day and 4 1 billion of acidopholis. and the 1/2 water 1/2 peroxide douche. It worked great! For two days. Now I believe it's either back and worse, or I have a bladder infection. Now I'm taking just acidopholis and folic acid. I have alot of pain in the region, but the discharge is minimal and the smell is gone. This is why I believe its another infection that I probably got from the douche. My point is, you should always try just the supplements first! I will never douche again no matter how bad this gets because I'm almost sure that's what made my situation worse! Be patient. Although this has made my situation worse, I'm very happy that I stumbled across this website. It's nice to see that I'm not alone, and it amazes me how many different remedies are out there. I will definitely be visiting this site many more times in the future! Good luck ladies. Be patient and have faith!"
09/25/2009: Dd from Miami, Florida replies: "I have been suffering for almost 4 years now off and on. My BV will go away for about 3 months at the most and then come back. Living in South Florida my gyno thought it was a yeast infection. Well every time he gave me something to cure what he thought it was it got worse. Finally after several cultures he said it was actually BV. So he prescribed a boric acid suppository I had to use for 2 weeks. That only helps for a little while. I've tried the MetroGel, Teraconzyl, even other home remedies like drinking and doing a sits bath of apple cider vinegar! I started last night with the hydrogen peroxide, folic acid and the acidophilus. Wish me luck. If there was a shot to give down there I'd take that right now, I'm at my wits end. Newly dating a guy and this is no fun! Question - could I keep re giving it to myself on my um how shall I put it "adult toys"? I was them with soap and hot water after each use, but wondered what everyone else thought. I'm 41 and this is no way to live. I do have to say I've taken comfort there are others out there."
09/30/2009: Dd from Miami, Fl, USA replies: "Well somethings just not right in my va-ja-ja area AGAIN! I only had the burning and discharge non odor from BV. I've been doing the hydrogen perioxide/mix for about a week now, was there a point I was supposed to stop? I was also doing the folic and acidophilyus twice a day orally. Seemed to be getting better. I think I threw my flora balance even more out of whack now!!! Please someone help. I now have sorry for being so graphic, but a yeast infection that is buring and cottage cheese! I just don't know what to do. I have a standing prescription of Dyflucan so I just took one, the burning is so bad I feel like I have a fireplace in my va-ja-area! I think the hydrogen mix is just too much twich a day. Any suggestions? Please I am so desperate."

09/07/2009: Lisa from Ny, Ny writes: "h202 douche/folic acid/ acidophilus
I have been using this method every time this nasty infection comes back, went a good 7 to 8 months with no problem but just got it back, because i used scented tampons. So stay away from those! We have to start thinking why we are getting this, pay attention to what might trigger it. To those women who say they are inserting the acidophilus capsules, and are getting a very yellow gritty discharge, i have experienced that as well and had no luck with that brand of acidophilus. I have come to find out that the best acidophilus to insert vaginally is the acidophilus pearls (it will say pearls or beads on the box, instead of capsues, or pills) The brand that works instantly comes in a purple box, since i cant say the brand. Look for a pearl, or bead of acidophilus that has many of the bacteria we need to put back into our bodies like not only lactobacillus acidophilus, but also bifidobacterium longum, lactobacillus rhamnosus, and bifidobacterium. I have found that brands that have all of this plus no milk or other stuff in the ingredients works the best, also you want lots of live cultures, the one i use has 2.5 billion live cultures in one acidophilus pearl. I do 1600mg folic acid twice daily, h202 douche for 3 days to a week, and two acidophilus pearls a day, one inserted at night before bed after h202 douche, for one week. I hope this helps. Had alot of practice fighting this thing. if u feel it coming back, like a slight itch, or sweet smell, quickly do a h202 douche and insert a pearl, and start back on the dosage for a week or so. Good luck ladies."
10/01/2009: Andrea from Portland, Or replies: "To Lisa from NY, NY -
Cottage cheese-like discharge, with no smell and lots of itching and burning is more likely to be a yeast infection than Bacterial Vaginosis.

[SIDE EFFECTS] 09/02/2009: Jessea from Bristol, Wi writes: "I have been suffering with BV since Febuary of this year. There was a long chain of events that caused it, and I've been on the Metronizdale (sp) antibiotic probably 5 or 6 times! And just like the storied I've read here, it would always come back within a couple weeks, sometimes worse than the time before! I was so happy when I found this site! I started out with the loading dose of 1600mg of Folic acid and 2 of the 1 billion acidopholis. I also did the H202 douche. I started this yesterday. I took 1200mg of the folic acid and 2 acidopholis last night and also inserted one of the acidpholis pill (not the capsule) into my vagina, and now I'm experiencing yellow discharge, and found much of the grit coming out with I douched this morning. I'm quite alarmed by it. I'm afraid I will get a urinary tract infection. Does anyone know if I can try to continue this remedy without this step? Or should I be using the capsule instead of the pill? Also, how long should it take for you to feel any results? I'm not quite sure if this working for me yet, so I'm going to continue the remedy without inserting acidpholis until I hear back from someone. Does anyone have any advise??"
09/04/2009: Mcleila from Vancouver, Bc Canada replies: "Jessea: I got the same reaction each time I inserted probiotics (capsules white powder). Always wondered how it triggered so much debris, and why it was yellow - but it seemed to help each time if I continued with it. Not much help I know - but at least the results are consistent :-)"
09/04/2009: Eh from Atlanta, GA replies: "Use Grapefruit Seed Extract instead. Take 10 drops (put in an empty capsule) or 8-10 drops in 16 oz. water (will be bitter -- that's why I use the capsules -- buy them in a health food store) 3x daily (space them out). Also douche with the GSE (5-6 drops in a douche bag) 2x daily. It will get rid of it -- but do NOT stop when you think it's gone. Continue a maintenance dose of 1-2x daily (orally) for several months to make sure. Also -- very important -- take a pro-biotic like Acidolphis (or I take a probiotic that has 3 different types in it -- more expensive, but MUCH better than the simple Acidolphis alone) Get one that is refrigerated, so that the bacteria are still very alive. You can take it along with the GSE -- just space it 2 hrs. after (and before) the GSE so the GSE will not kill the good bacteria) I have had this problem several times and, believe it, it works! I know it seems complicated -- but it's worth it! Good luck!"
09/04/2009: Kathy from Dubois, Pa replies: "I've only had BV once in my life, thank God, but I cured myself of it by douching with Colloidal Silver. Luckily, I had access to a Colloidal Silver generator, so I douched with a quart of 10ppm solution 2 times per day (morning and before bed) for 1 week. After the week of douching, I inserted probiotic caps morning and evening for 1 week to re-establish the proper vaginal flora."

[QUESTION] 08/23/2009: Pbj from Montreal, Quebec, Canada writes: "BV Treatment during menstruation...
Hi Ladies, this is my first time through this plague and I need some advice. I have been to the doctor where she prescribed metronidazole which I took for a week with no improvement. She then prescribed Clindamycin which I expect won't work either. I started on your recommended treatment yesterday combo of h2o2 douche, acidophilus and folic acid but I got my period this morning. I haven't found any posts related to this topic so I assume I just continue with the treatment but can someone please confirm or share your experience. Do I have to wait another week to work on this nasty condition...
Reading all these posts have been a life saver with this being my first bout I can only imagine how much suffering some of you have experienced. This is 100% consuming I spend hours on the internet in between trips to the washroom ever hopeful that the symptoms will be gone."

I never knew it even existed until after sex, hubby notices a stong fishy smell. had recently stopped my period a week before. I decide to go on line and figure out my prob, I also have an doc app. in a week. I tried the folic acid by itself, in 2 days, no improvement. Then I tried the hydrogen peroxide -1/2 water-1/2 HP- and the probotics. Instant relief!! I am on my third day now, no smell, discharge, some itch though.
I am wondering, if I have sex will it come back again, has this happened to any one? I am so worried that it will. Don't want to get my hopes up so high."
07/26/2009: Bmore76 from Baltimore, MD replies: "I have had frequent recurring bv for at least 3 years. I was tired of taking antibiotics, creams or whatever and decided I wanted to try a more natural remedy. About a week ago I tried the 50/50 mix of peroxide and bottled water douche. About an hour later I used a 10 cc syringe to insert plain yogurt into my vagina. I also use the 50/50 mix as a rinse for my external genitalia every day. I take one pill a day of acidophilus, cranberry and folic acid. Since Ive done this I have not had it return even after sex with my husband. So far so good. I hope all is better with you and all the other ladies battling this inconvenience."
[NAY] 07/27/2009: Maria from Greenville, SC replies: "I hoped not to get my hopes up high..well I didnt. I had protected sex w/hubby Saturday morning[no smell!!]While showering on Sunday night, applied a little soap on my vag to smell it and whew, teh fish smell was back!! What is going on? I have been taking the accidphullous pills, inserting also. And also the hp/h20 douch. I can't believe and don't want to believe the soap brought it back. The condom sholud of have replied the same way. I cried the whole night. It can get very emotional and stressful! I thought it was working for me!!
Someone please help!!I have done everything, why did it come back?!"
07/30/2009: Jan from Carthage, Texas replies: "I read a study (just before I found this site) that suggest douching (especially with soap) helps create a friendly environment for VB. Sooo...maybe our "cleanliness" is getting us into trouble...hhmmmm.
Here is the site...http://gateway.nlm.nih.gov/MeetingAbstracts/ma?f=102239373.htmlMy Dr prescribed meds, so far the odor and discharge is worse and now itches...not cool. Going to try to do something about it myself now. Good luck to you all here, this is truly a nasty business to deal with repeatedly."
07/30/2009: Bmore76 from Baltimore, MD replies: "Maybe try not to use soap in that area. Try the 50/50 mix of peroxide and water or a mild feminine wash...but not soap."
08/03/2009: Ab from New York, New York replies: "I've recently developed BV and while am able to keep it under control by inserting half of pill of Metronidazole vaginally, I slipped up - I had sex with my boyfriend. I am aware that there shouldn't be any sexual intercourse while the symptoms are present because the bacteria can live on the penis and then be transmitted back to vagina which now leaves me wondering how long would I have to avoid having sex with my boyfriend? We've been dating for only a month and I am very uncomfortable discussing this with him. We're going away in 5 days which would make it very difficult for me if this BV problem is still present.
Would condom use make it worst? If anyone has an idea or can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated!"
08/03/2009: Ab from Hou, Tx replies: "I would greatly like to see a response to this??? How long do we need to wait to have sex with our partners if the bacteria can live on the penis??? If this is the case we will spread this back and forth forever!!!!!"
08/03/2009: School Marm from Bridgeport, Ct replies: "Try acidopholus both orally and as a douche. Also consider waiting until you feel comfortable discussing personal issues with BF to have sex with him. Will lead to a much stronger relationship. Additionally, that may help with catching additional problems."
10/07/2009: Mg from No, La replies: "I find that anything containing latex triggers bv for me. I was told years ago by a doctor that latex could not do that. I don't believe that. BV is an overgrowth of bad bacteria and anything that upsets the vaginal ph can allow for this overgrowth. Since staying away from anything latex I suffer from bv less frequently."
10/08/2009: Dd from Miami, Fl replies: "Mg I agree!!! I think latex and the chemicals in condoms are also conflicting with our balance of good and bad bacteria. I will try anything at this point. The douching was way too much for me and created a yeast infection, so I need to find a happy medium between that and not doing anything at all. I've switched to cotton balls soaked in the hydrogen/water mix and just kind of squeeze it up there a few times and do this once a night for a few nights. Plus I'm still taking the acidophillus and folic acid once a day.
Good luck everyone, keep posting results we are all in this together!!!"
10/11/2009: Sandybrown from Oak Forest, Il replies: "I have been suffering from vaginal problems for approximately four years now. I have viewed a few sites that promise to help me but all of them have failed. I was also trying to find a few support groups but I couldn't find any, until now. I appreciate the fact that many women suffer from the same problems that I do. It makes me feel a lot better. It makes me feel like I'm not alone AND I'm not gross! I have been to my gyno several times over the past few years and I've been treated for BV, yeast infections and (unfortunately) chlamydia. I feel so ashamed and disgusted with myself that I don't know what to do anymore. I haven't "pleased my self" in years nor have I been with a partner. I'm so ashamed about my symptoms. I've tried acidophilus with the same results as others (with the yellow gritty discharge). I've also tried taking multivitamins in hopes that they would help. I have never used scented ANYTHING nor have I used tampons or had a bad diet etc. I have tried everything but I will now try the folic acid and acidophilus. I'll probably buy the stronger kind of probiotic just incase. I'm not sure about the hydrogen peroxide but that's worth a shot. I've also read about boric acid capsules being inserted or bathing in tea tree oil. I'm not sure if that'll work but we'll see. I'll keep ya posted but again, I'm REALLY happy that I'm not the only one who suffers from BV."
11/15/2009: 5 Years Fighting from Indianpolis, In replies: "I have also been fight BV for about 5 years now, I was in a relationship about 3 years ago and I also think that the male can carry the BV and give it back to us! I would also like to know more on the this subject! because I will be smell free for a few days but as soon as i have sex with my BF it comes back even stronger! Is there a wy of killing the BV in males? If anyone has any ideas or suggestions?"
11/19/2009: Sikofbv from Jacksonville, Fl replies: "I do know that everytime i've been diagnosed with BV (symptomatic going on 11 years now) my doctor has told me to have my BF treated as well.
So i do believe that they should get tested. But i am pretty in tuned with my body, and i know that when the "Smell from Hell" pays a visit...it's my VJ trying to tell me that somethings going in her that ain't right!!! (lol)Definitely communicate to your BF that your VJ is sensitive to foreign bacteria and that he should be considerate enough to make sure that he's taking care of his PJ (i know that was a dry attempt, but you know what i mean)."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 07/19/2009: looking4hope from Nashville, TN writes: "Folic Acid, acidophilus, hydrogen peroxide used to control BV
I am 37 and have been suffering with chronic BV infections since June of 2007. Unbeknownst to me at the time my husband was having an affair with a women that I later have found out was messing around with a few other men as well. ( Yeah I know noce right?) I was back and forth to the doctor with one RX after another.. it would clean up for about a week maybe two.. then back again.. nothing worked. I have spent many hours searching the internet for an answer and was relieved that I am not alone in my suffering. I was beginning to think it was all me. I even changed doctors, my new doctor is a woman, she has worked with me on trying to find something that will work for me. She has been wonderful in being able to call in meds for me so that I did not have to be seen for what I already knew I had. My husband was busted out a few months after this all started, and we have worked hard to get past that... he says he is not messing around with anyone ever again.. ( yeah okay... I am suppose to believe that?) I had started putting a few things together even keeping a food journal as my doctor suggested. I am a type 2 diabetic but I do not take meds for that as of yet. I noticed that when my urine smells like Sweetened Puffed Wheat Cereal I can bet for certain that BV is about to creep in.. and sure enough... the dischange, the smell and the sore tender insides. So, it was suggested that I cut out certain things in my diet that made my sugar get all outta whack. Sodas, milk chocolate, caffein, sugar in general, alcohol... so I did that. and it does help at times.. it seems like I get a mild case of BV . Then one day.. POW... it just started coming back... and I was pulling my hair out... nothing was working that I had been doing.... so after coming across this site I set out on a mission... I went to the drug store and purchased ditilled water and hydrogen peroxide and a pack of vinegar water douches, one bottle of 400mcg folic acid tablets, and acidophillus____ that contain 1 billion CFU ___.
I emptied the vinegar water douche solution and added hydrogen peroxide and distiled water 1:1 used that first, then took two of the folic acid tablets and one of the acidopholus later that night before bed I took another folic acid tablet and another acidopholus. By morning I felt wonderful, no smell, no discharge, no bloated feeling, no tender feeling.. Ah Hah... I was on to something... so that morning I took two more folic acid tablets and one acidopholus ____... no douche this day.. was going to ride it out and see what happened. I have been doing this daily for going on 3 months now, and just had a couple times that I had to use the douche again up until recently... I have gone back to drinking sodas, and my sugar is outta control and it seems that the BV is harder to control with the methode that I have described here. Keep in mind that it is mild, nothing like before, so I am continuing with the folic acid and the acidopholus pearls. I have cut out the sodas once again.
The things that I noticed that have caused my BV to occur....
1. stress
2. uncontroled blood glucose levels
3. sex with my husband can sometimes trigger a lot of that depends on his diet as well.
4. weight... I have put on 30 of the 50 pounds that I had lost last year.
control of stress, and blood sugar, along with weight loss help out a lot to keep BV in check, the pills mentioned above do the rest of the job.
I am going back to my gyn next month for a folow up exam for an abnormal pap, and copolscopy, where it was also determined that I had HPV. ( and not the one that causes warts, I have the kind that is known to turn into cancer.)
I will report back with what my gyno tells me at that visit. And will see what she has to say about what I have been using to control my BV.
Please continue to see your gyno regularly for preventative messures, and continue to network and take charge of your own bodies to control BV and other nastiness in your lives. Natural medicine is a good thing.... thank you to all those that were brave enough to give it a try so that the rest of us could be made aware of your success, and incorporate it into our own plan of treatment. Not everything works for everybody, but do your research on whatever it is that you are going to try. Pay particular attention to the other good things that Folic acid can do for you... more than you know... it shocked me... and has done more for me than just help control my BV"
08/17/2009: Darnet from Binghamton, Ny, USA replies: "Thank you for describing your situation. I too am in my 30's and have cronic BV. I am new to this site and think that I will try some of the home remedies, but have a few clarifying questions:
I would like to know - what are the pills that individuals are inserting and taking orally? I have seen things life Folic Acid? I have never taken even one vitamin, but am assuming I can find this in the vitamin isle? Is this the fill that is taken both orally and inserted, or am I missing something?
I have been told by my OBGYN that I am missing acid - why wouldn't vinager and water douche work? I thought that vinigar was an acid? I will try the peroxide.
I am getting these things probably once every three months! It is killing me! I am sexually active, but with only one man - and he definately would not cheat! Do you think that getting older would have some sort of effect? I mean - is my body changing that much???
Just to clarify with the yogurt? You just insert a certain amount? How much and how frequent?
Thanks!!!!!"

The smell came and I got treated for a "dis "ease" ". The clinic told me at 55 that I didn't know how to wipe. Puleeez. Anyway the antibiotic caused a yeast infection and the cure for the yeast infection brought back the BV. It did not start until I started having sex bareback. I thought it was me. It was soooo awful. My daughter turned me on to the site. I cried. So many other women were having the same issue. It works, but you must maintain a regimen. 1/2 water and 1/2 peroxide. I take 1 billion acidophilus, and 1mg presciption strength folic daily. After about 4 days, the smell, itching, is gone. I find this is the key. You have to douche, once every 2/4 weeks, but you have to maintian taking the pills. They will not harm you. I slipped off the wagon (stopped taking or doing anything) and it came back. I have started again and have been free for 6 months. I will take the pills. The smell, irritation are so unbearable. Good luck"

07/13/2009: Pregnant w/ BV from Chicago, IL writes: "I've been having problems with BV for almost a year now, I got pregnant back in January. I've never had problems with vaginal infections before last year, and I've been with the same man for 4-1/2 yrs. Is it possible he cheated and that's how I got this? I think it is possible, but what can I do without proof or confirmation. I'm nervous because I'm due in about 2 months and I'm still not rid of this nasty infection. All I really have is discharge. I've never had an odor with it, rarely get itchy, but keep testing positive, AAAAA! So after stumbling on to this website I'm hoping at least one of these regimens will work for me especially since I won't be douching, because I don't want any complications, whether I deliver naturally or if I have to have another C-section. if anyone knows of or has tried an alternative to douching, it would be much appreciated. Thanks to all you ladies for sharing your experiences, and giving the rest of us hope and courage to keep trying."
07/13/2009: Tonika from High Point, North Carolina replies: "BV is not an STD and women can get it even when they're not having sex. I've learned that my bouts are linked to when my husband and I have sex. I do not have an odor, but I do have plenty of vaginal irritation which leaves me wanting to crawl into bed and just lay there forever. My doctor prescribed 600mg boric acid capsules that are to be inserted in the vagina. I hate that I wasn't told about these before now. A woman's vagina is normally acidic, but when males ejaculate into our vagina they introduce semen that changes our ph balance to a neutral or more alkaline environment which is not something that our good bacteria (Lactobacillus) likes. When our ph is out of whack, other "bad" bacteria can thrive and leave our good bacteria less effective to fight the bad ones and they cause the smell that some of us experience. Please ask your doctor about boric acid. Boric acid helps to return the vagina to its normal acidic enviornment which is what we need. I have been telling any and everyone who will listen that they have worked wonders for me. Just as a precaution to ensure that my natural balance is okay, I also eat yogurt that contains a probiotic daily and I take a probiotic capsule orally daily that contains lactobacillus acidophilus. Hope this helps you."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 06/23/2009: SS from Shelbyville, TN writes: "I have suffered from BV for about 10 years. I didn't know what it was. I also suffered from UTIs. I divorced my husband and I no longer get the UTIs but still have the BV. I thought the smell just went along with the UTI. I was too embarrassed to ask the doctor about this so I researched my problem and found this website. What a blessing!! I started taking 1 tablet acidophilus and 1 folic acid 800mcg in the morning and evening for a week. I also did the 1/2 water 1/2 hydrogen peroxide douche for the first two mornings. After the second day, the smell and discharge was GONE!!! The biggest test for me was when I finally had sex again. No smell! After a week, I stopped taking the pills. I figured I was cured. It's been over a month. The BV did seem to try to come back. I have found that I need to take 1 acidophilus and 1 folic acid pill every day to maintain. Also, after sex I use the hydrogen peroxide douche. Thank you for this website and to all the ladies that shared their stories!"
06/28/2009: Jan from Pitt, PA replies: "I am concerned and frustrated. I am glad I found this website though. I would like to tell you all my story in hopes that I can finally end the vicious roller coaster I am on. I have researched this condition over and over and know now that antibotic remedies only make this problem worse. However, I have tried some other remedies that don't seem to handle my problem either.
I told myself I would never ever do this, but now I'm desperate. I was teamed up with some people from rockwell nutrition, but my results with their expensive protocol have been mixed. I spent hundreds of dollars on expensive herbal remedies that didnt seem to help me and now I'm scared. I understand the implications of this problem and do not want to harm myself with natural remedies.
so, that brings me to my current state of affairs. I have been suffering for almost a year and a half now with bv. I have tried oral antiboitcs, and boric acid, as well as flagyl and some other thing (metrogel?). Nothing has worked.
I am asking for immediate advice. I am scheduling a drs appointment tomorrow to rule out any other pelvic problems. I had tried taking borax for this, but end up with cramps and this has freaked me out enough to send me off to the doctor.
so, about this whole hydrogen peroxide thing? does it work? even for resistent cases? what else is out there that can help me? what do I need to do to permanently solve this hell of a problem. I am no longer sexually active, and this thing called bv is the reason why.
are these douches safe by teh way? i know if you have bv for years the lining of your vagina can become weak and I do not want to risk any toxicity (yeah, a bit paranoid about even treating this thing). why is folic acid so important? are there any other methods I should be aware of to try?
please help. I'm desperate and in so much misery I could scream. I will leave you with a list of my current symptoms as well so you can best judge my situation.
odor (not fishy, more like urine)
discharge.
itching
burning
soareness
thanks and I hope to hear from you all soon. I need help and affordable help at that."
07/01/2009: openheated from Byron, GA replies: "I was suffering for 2 months straight; had been treated for yeast infections twice before I was told it was BV. Took the meds (metro...) didn't work. My symptoms were similar to yours (no fishy smell, but more like urine). I tried the Acidophlilus(took 2 orally & inserted one nightly), Folic Acid, Zinc, and B-12 vitamins (as directed on bottle). It help but the BV was still there. I noticed when I missed my Folic acid dose it would get worse even while using the acidolphilus....(a ha)! So, I researched & began my experiment and I stopped the acidpohlius and got some cranberry tablets (because I noticed that I was urinating more w/ slight pelvic discomfort and the discharge was around the top part of my vagina (urethra/clitoris)w/a constant burning; I've been taking the folic acid, zinc, b-12, and cranberry tablets 3 days and I am symptom free....no joke. I also used the peroxide twice daily to wash that area and have changed my undies to white cotton only w/ unscented pantyliners (when neccessary). I have a mild dischage which is returning to normal but no more discomfort.I've read that some causes of Bv is: oral sex, contaminated: sex toys, clothing (like PJ's, towels, & etc...)but get: this my best friend was asked by her Dr. if her sex partner has diabeties (too much sugar in his semen) since a high sugar diet can also trigger an imbalance in the vagina. Acidophilus is good, but will not work for everyone. also, one last note: BV is an unbalance/ bacteria in the vagina- it appears that a poor diet & vitamin deficiency could be the #1 problem. Ladies we are eating meat (from animals) and foods that are being pumped w/ steroids, hormones, and antibotics in high quantities (hence the bacteria & imbalance in our bodies), so until we change our diets we will continue to suffer w/ this condition. Something has to be done becuase it's beginning to affect our younger women/ children as well. We're dealing w/ chronic infections, pre-menopausal symptoms (at 30 yrs of age, facial hair, and the list goes on because of the mess we consume in our bodies). Its' time to take a stand and take control of our health!
Thank you all for sharing and God bless."
07/01/2009: Jan from Pitt, PA replies: "thank you so much for your response and your speedy response at that. how much folic acid did you take daily and did you douche with hydrogen peroxide? (douching freaks me out still, but if that's what I gotta do that's what I gotta do). If so, how did you formulate it? It's nice to know the effects of acidophilis. Its funny you mention cranberry tabs. When i first came down with this, i had mild pelvic pain and burning too on urination. It was so intense I was literally dubbed over in pain at the gynocologists office. I was put on heavy course of antibiotics for a widespread infection (scary I know. )I do not have diabetes, but my ex did have quite a sweet tooth. and why white cotton only?
You've been an amazing help! thank you so much! I hope to hear back from you soon so I can start my own recovery here. This site is such a blessing!"
07/02/2009: Openhearted from Byron, GA replies: "No problem, Glad to be of help! First: only white underwear because the colorful onee contains dyes (not good for your vaginal health). I take 2- 400mg (folic acid), 1- 30 mg zinc, 1- B-12 tablet, and 2-canberry tablets in the morning. I didn't douche w/ the peroxide/water combo, but I did wash the area w/ it. At night I take 1-400mg folic acid, and 2 more cranberry tablets before bed. Drinks lots of water (try adding lemon juice) becuase the lemon juice is benificial in detoxing/cleansing the body. Also, if you're feeling irritated still, insert plain yoguart vs douching; it should stop the buring immediately! I told you about the slight discharge that was left (so last night I inserted the tampon soaked in yoguart)...no discharge detected at all so far and half the day is gone. I myself was not a vitamin taker at all and I was inconsistant w/ my diet, also a major junk food eater (sweets, cakes, pastries, etc..) I have cut all that out and I hope to develop a healthy eating habit to strengthen my health/immune system. I think we can cure it by eating wholesome natural foods and making sure our bodies have the proper nutrition/vitamins it needs.Good luck."

I had posted a couple of times before about how I thought this home treatment was working, but it's been a few months and I wanted to post again about my progress. My treatment was a H202-soaked tampon inserted every evening for about an hour while lying down, 800mg folic acid twice daily, and 3 REFRIGERATED 135mg acidophillus taken at least twice daily. I am very happy to say this has worked wonderfully (followed the regimen for about 2 weeks straight), and my only "treatment" now is drinking kefir every day. It's like yogurt but it has less sugar and more good bacteria. I get it at the health food store and have 8oz. per day. Also, I've had no issues after my period or after intercourse, but have done a tampon treatment a couple of times just as a precaution the following day. Even better, I finally have insurance again and went to the Dr. last week for a well woman exam, and she said all of my parts look fantastic and no sign of any problems. In fact she commented about how healthy I was! Hooray!!!! When my exam was done I "confessed" to home treating myself for BV and told her about my treatment. She commended me for taking action on my own health, and she said, and I quote, "That's fantastic!" It felt great. :-)"

[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 06/04/2009: Discouraged from Boise, Idaho writes: "I've been dealing with this for a year and a half now. I've tried nearly everything...flagyl, Biofem, vitamins, the H202 wash, folic acid, acidophilus...NOTHING IS WORKING!
Lately I've been trying the combo of hydrogen peroxide, folic adic, and acidophilus. I've been taking 800-1600 mcg of folic acid a day, rinsing with the 1/2 water 1/2 hydrogen peroxide wash, and taking 2 acidophius capsules orally a day. I've done this for about a week now, and my body keeps going back and forth. One day it will appear to be working, the next it appears my symptoms have WORSENED. I don't know what to do!
I've seen a lot of women saying they vaginally insert an acidophilus capsule daily...can I do this with any capsule? Or do I have to buy a special kind? And is that really safe? Or is there a chance it'll give me another kind of infection?
Also, if I continue trying the combo I stated above, does it ALWAYS work instantly? Or can it take awhile? Everyone seems to have results right away, but not me. Did anyone's symptoms get a little worse before they improved?
Please, ladies, I need help! I'm about to lose my mind..."
06/05/2009: Lapis from Arkansas, USA replies: "Sorry to hear you are suffering so. Perhaps you should check your ph value by buying those ph strips. A too acidic body is a great breeding ground for bacteria etc. Do you eat enough alkaline foods? If not perhaps you should start I can imagine you might see difference. Check out the apple cider vinegar drink used for raising ph value that Ted recomends. This could also be Candida, my sister has this and she has a constant yeast infection. Last but far from being least. You are what you eat and this could be a real way of your body saying that you are not tolerating certain foods (five most common allergens like milk , soy , wheat, nuts etc.) You wil be AMAZED what food allergies can do and yes they can start up at anytime in ones life. But do your self a favor and cut out ALL sugar since that just feeds the bacteria.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!"
06/06/2009: Sabita from Orlando, FL replies: "I would try using diluted tea tree oil and/or anything for germ/bacteria. I did use a prescription cream for germs. Also don't wear tight clothing which aggravates the condition. Wear boxer shorts around the house and skirts out. Cut out all sugar, dairy and other allergenic foods. Basically eat protein and salads. God bless and good luck."
06/06/2009: Tara from Clarkston, Washington replies: "I think any one of the caps or tabs would be safe of course read the labels first, but even if you need to put the plain yogurt where the sun doesn't shine before bed will be better that the alternative. I wish you all the best, as I also know the horrific feeling. Don't be scared about the acidophillus tho, just be sure to get a multi friendly bacterial blend to kick it."
07/01/2009: Jessica from Jefferson City, MO replies: "I suffer from bv all them time and I have since I was a young child. I was looking on here to see if I could find something that would work so I could stray away from the antibiotics. Although about a year ago I read something about using plain yogurt and inserting it inside. I tried that and not only did I have the bv but I got a really bad yeast infection. When I went to the bathroom it smelled like sour milk. I am not sure if that would happen to everyone or maybe just me because of my own chemical balance but ladies beware."

[YEA] 05/27/2009: Forty-Something from Washington, PA writes: "After 15 years of recurrent -BV, I think the Hydrogen Peroxide douche, Acidopholis, folic acid combo has really worked.
I did the following:
equal parts H2O2/water- two mornings in a row
Took Acidopholis (500mill) morning and night for 7 days
Took Folic acid every morning
Inserted Acidopholis every evening for 7 nights
I am happy with my results.
For those people questioning how and why they get it and if they get it from someone...I've concluded that it's not given to me...rather my body responding to sperm presence. I never had this issue until I tried to get pregnant and after my tubal ligation when I could have sex without a condom. My suggestion...get out the condoms.
One warning...I had 2 preemie babies...and BV is know to be associated with this. So...for those of you struggling with BV and trying to get pregnant, keep this in mind.
Love this site."
06/26/2009: Icantfly from New York, New York replies: "I haven't tried this remedy yet but I plan to. The doctor prescribed me flagyl for my condition but it didn't seem to work. The whole thing is driving me crazy as I've never suffered from this before, but I also believe that it is my body reacting to sperm presence. This is the first time I have bacterial vaginosis and it seems to coincide with my fiance and me not using condoms. So I think I will try this remedy and then break out the condoms."

09/16/2009: Ally from New York, New York replies: "Optimistic that I'm on my way to recovery. In the past month I've found out I have GBS in my urine and BV. I'm known to my doctor as being the pillar of health. My lab results have came back with normal results for over 10 years. I'm now 28. When I was 16 my boyfriend cheated and he transfered his Chlamydia to me. I took antibiotics for several days and he did as well. Problem solved. Here years later I get a double whammy. I cant quite blame my current man because I've done extensive research on both infections and both are not STD's. This is our bodies releasing toxins due to poor diets, dairy, high fructose, harsh soaps containing sodium laureth sulfate, perfumes, low vitamin intake. Not excluding the presence of sperm can throw off your PH, but its less unlikely to be the only contributing factor or it would be an STD. I've been drinking red leaf tea and taking a vitamin, mineral and herbal supplement for the strep B (gbs) and I cant wait to start the H2O2/Distilled water, acidophilus and folic acid 800 mcg, which is already in the supplements I'm currently using. My case isn't the worse, The discharge was never thick only the odor is noticeable to me and my man after sex. I see a slight difference already on my new regimen and am very excited you ladies are experiencing a breakthrough. I'm confident I'll feel the same soon once I start.. Thank you!! This site is wonderful ;-)"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 05/20/2009: Lisa from Brooklyn, NY writes: "Thank you ALL for posting your stories you have helped more women than you'll ever know. I have suffered with BV for over 10 years. One night while searching yet again for a cure to stop the embarrassing odor and discharge I discovered you all. After reading what felt like every single post until my eyes were red and burning (I'm not kidding) I couldn't believe this was such a common problem and when I went to my Gyno. she kept prescribing things that did not work. I've tried creams, gels, pills you name it nothing worked it always came back with a vengeance. So after reading the post here I went to the 24hr. supermarket and bought the folic acid and peroxide. I already had the Acidophilus.
Immediately I took a loading dose of folic acid 1600mg. and the acidophilus (orally)did the hydrogen peroxide 3% solution, 1/2 water 1/2 peroxide.
When I woke up I was so happy I could have cried. There was absolutely no discharge, not the slightest hint of that foul odor that had been present for so long. IT WAS FINALLY GONE!
Curiosity got the better of me approx. 1 week later so I grabbed a plastic glove and inserted my finger like the Gyno does. Well to my surprise; the discharge was there. It was as thick but no smell.
So to date I've tried:
1. Folic Acid + hydrogen peroxide 3% solution + Acidophilus (ORALLY) = No Smell No Discharge BUT a large amount of discharge remains inside
2. Folic Acid + hydrogen peroxide 3% solution + Acidophilus (Internally)= No Smell No Discharge BUT Grit from the acidophilus left inside m.
3. Folic Acid + hydrogen peroxide 3% solution = No Smell No Discharge BUT a large amount of discharge remains inside.
Has anyone discovered a formula to completely get rid of the accumulation which remains inside? Also must the douche be done everyday?
Please if anyone has any thoughts on what might work please share your thoughts.
I have no one I can discuss this with. Thank you all in advance."

This seemed to help the smell a great deal! Little to no discharge for most of the day! I took 2 acidohpolis pills in the afternoon and also 400 mg tablet of folic acid.I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this continues to work since my wedding anniversary is this week and I would like to have sex! I always thought I may have had an STD but was always tested and turned out negative. I was in a relationship on and off but at the same time sexually promiscuous during my earlier adult years. I now am married with the same man Ive been on and off with and wonder why this BV continues. Im so sick and tired of this Smell, I cannot wear the same undergarments for long, showering everyday and staying clean helps but only for an hour or so. I thought it was my tight clothing which seems to trigger the smell, I thought it was my weight loss, etc. Anyway, i think its him. I take the meds, all is good, have sex with my husband and BAM, I have that odor again. I have always felt that i may have PID (pelvic inflammatory Disease) but never diagnosed. Gosh, so much to write. This is my next step... Douching with H2O2 and Water, trying the Folic Acid pills... Its sad to think that your husband may be sleeping around and causing this or it can mearliy be that he's unclean (what i mean, not showering beforehand) everytime we have sex. Never paid attention to that until now. Best of Luck to All and i will be posting again with my results soon."

antibiotics killed all the bact. bad and good.
this is my method:
2 pills acidophilus, 1 day 1 night
v rinse: 1/2 peroxide 1/2 water
i couldnt douche because i lacked the proper tools but i did wash myself with this mixture last night and i have been smelling good ever since. going to do it every other day for a week just to make sure. it didnt hurt or sting or anything. i would suggest it to any women suffering from this terrible and embarassing infection.
i also take 2 acidophilus pills a day, one at morning and 1 evening to build up the good bact.
i started these pills a few days before the v rinse, hoping it would be enough. i saw some improvement but the rinse really helped.
hope that helps :)"

[YEA] 05/10/2009: Girl Bear from Auckland, New Zealand writes: "I have been avoiding having sex with my husband since 17 March because it smelt fishy down there. The doctor treated me for thrush with a 6 day course of Clotrimzaole cream. But the fishy smell remained. Not much discharge but awful smell. Last night my husband wanted sex. I could smell myself and did not enjoy it. Also, I had no sensation and could not feel anything in my vagina. My husband said afterwards I smelt different. I cried myself to the internet. At 4am I found your website. This morning I rushed to the chemist. Purchased folic acid and an acidophilus probiotic which contains 12.5 billion lactobacillus acidophilus and 12.5 billion bifidobacterium lactis and 67 mg colostrum powder. Got home and took two 0.8mg of folic acid and one acidophilus capsule which has 25 billion good bacteria per capsule. Drank it with cranberry juice. Inserted one acidophilus capsule in my vagina. Four hours later took another acidophilus capsule orally and inserted another vaginally.
Then a couple of hours later put two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide (3%) in two cups of water and rinsed my vagina with it. Repeated the rinse two hours later again. At the same time I inserted my finger into my vagina and after withdrawing it I had a sniff.
Incredibly I have no more discharge and the fishy smell is disappating. Note I did not douche because I was nervous about sticking bleach inside me.
Before I go to sleep tonight I will do another rinse and insert the contents of the capsule inside. I am going to mix the contents of the capsule with some KY jelly and insert it with an applicator. Hopefully, I will be rid of this forever.
FYI I am allergic to metronizadole. Last year I got bacterial vaginosis and was prescribed it orally. After taking it for just over a week I came down with hives, my eyes started to swell to slits, my tongue went numb and my arms went tingly. I ended up in a hospital emergency ward. When I suspected I had bacterial vaginosis again I despaired. Thank God for this website."

Acidophilus and so far the smell is completely gone and I'm feeling better already, Hopefully this continues I will keep you all updated."
