[YEA]  03/15/2011: Hopeitsover from Louisville, Ky writes: "Years ago I had my first experience with dreaded BV my doctor gave me an antibiotic, not sure what the name of it was. However it did clear up and I was lucky to have not had to deal with it for several years.... UNTIL about a month ago. I started a new relationship and bam!!! It came back, and it came back with a vengence!!

It was horrible!!! When it first began I experienced the discharge, itching, and slight odor during and after intercourse. I don't have great insurance coverage so I decided to try and let it run its course. Well, that never happened. The itching and burning went away on its own. But the discharge and smell were putrid. The smell became so bad, I started smelling it through my clothes and I know other people around me could too. Sex became something I dreaded... I could smell it so I knew he could. It was so embarressing.. I stumbled accross this site and all I can say is Thank God!!

I first tried ACIDOPHILUS pills. I took two by mouth and inserted one vaginally. The next morning the smell became even worse!! It wasn't a fishy smell, it was an undescrible disgusting smell. I had to go to work that morning.. Lets just say I couldn't wait for 5:30 to get out of my cubicle and go home to wash. On my way home that day I decided to stop by walgreens and pick up VH essentials BV Treatment Homeopathic Time-Release Vaginal Inserts.. They were $24.95. Pricey yes, but I was willing to try anything. I also picked up vitamen D supplements (i read some where on here that they have helped for some) I got the 1000 ui dosage. I first used Peroxide and water douche to clean out the nasty smell and took by mouth 3 of the vitamen D capsules. After the peroxide and water douch, the smell was remarkably improved. I inserted the vh essentials bv treatment as directed on package (only using half first) no more than three hours later the smell was completely gone!!!!!!!

It has been four days and Im still continuing to use the time release capsules as directed on box, taking 3 of the 1000 ui vitamen D, 2 ACIDOPHILUS (by mouth!! ) and douching with the h20 and peroxide, everyday. No more smell and no more discharge!!!! I cannot tell you how greatful I am for the posts on this site. I can finally be me again!!! my boyfried has even done his own research and decided that his seman may causing a reaction as well and we are using other methods regarding that.

That is what worked for me, and I hope it will do the same for someone else. What do you have to loose... But the SMELL. Good luck : )"

[WORKED TEMPORARILY]  05/05/2011: Lil Bitt from Columbia, Sc replies: "I tried using Hydrogen Peroxide, folic acid and the smell only goes away for a while but it comes back. I looked at the treatment today at CVS and was really temped in trying it. I have noticed that once the smell dies down a little and I have intercourse, the semen causes the smell to come back so be careful about that."

[YEA]  02/24/2011: Brandy from Dallas, Texas, United States writes: "I have been dealing with this for a while now. I do not have insurance and later found out my husband was on sex sites to meet local singles. Anyway, when this started happening my first thought was "This Jerk is gonna lose his face if I have a disease" Well, I went to the ER one night thinking I was having a stroke (I have high blood pressure and Im in my early 30's) It turned out to be an anxiety attack. During this visit I thought Well, Im already here so I told the Dr about the husband and we did a series of STD tests. All to turn out clean -Thank God! It was Bacterial Vaginosis. I have tried pills and gels the Dr's gave and it kept coming back. I tried these home remedies last night and by morning my stuff is clean!! Squeaky! Lol. Zero odor, Zero discharge, Zero pain. I was so stinkin happy. I was like "Ahh, Thank you God!" At first I was so scared of putting Peroxide and water in my Vag. I debated for at least ten mins. Finally I said Its worth a shot! I did it. Anyway, Im doing the regimen listed on here where you take 1 Folic Acid Pill, 1 Acidophilus pill and douche with Peroxide and Water. I even put a tampon heavily covered in Plain live culture yogurt and put it in for about an hour then removed right b4 bed. It's like I never had an issue at all. I'm really shocked!! I actually found a home remedy that really, truly works!! DO IT GIRLS!"

03/03/2011: Jeanne from Traverse City, Mi, United States replies: "I got my first BV infection 5 months ago. The Dr. Gave me Flagyl Oral but it came back within a month. I didn't really want to do the Flagyl again, so I tried the Hydrogen Peroxide douche, plus folic acid as recommended here.

I found that the Hydrogen Peroxide gave me temporary relief, but did not cure the BV. The best way to do this is buy an Eve disposible douche, dump out the liquid, and fill the bottle with 50/50 Hydro and Water. Sit in your shower and insert as far as you can and douche. Then, with your knees up, it's easier to hold the Hyro inside. I try to hold it in for 5-10 minutes (while reading a book to make the time go by quicker). Then, taking a shower afterward helps limit the irritation to your labial area. Doing this does make you feel fresher and eliminates the smell for about a day, so I do it in the afternoon if I anticipate having sex that evening.

Folic acid (1600 mg/day) seemed to do nothing for me, but every woman's body is different and I've seen here that's it's worked for other women, so give it a try. The pills were inexpensive.

I was trying the Hydro and Folic Acid, along with taking a women's probiotic (expensive! ) for about a month with no cure. I went to a different, more progressive doctor and she had me try raw garlic suppositories, no luck there either. Then, she gave me Metro gel. The first course didn't work, and neither did the second. So we tried the oral flagyl again since it worked the first time, if only for a little while.

A couple weeks after finishing my last dose of oral flagyl, the BV is back. I called another progressive doctor (who does not accept my insurance) and she kindly recommended boric acid without me having to make an appointment. After reading the success others have had on this site, I'm going to give it a try.

I was able to buy a big bottle of Boric Acid powder at a local independent pharmacy, and they gave me the 00 capsules for free. I will report back here to let you all know if it works.

After reading a lot on this site I also wonder if the cause has something to do with having unprotected sex, as my partner and I stopped using condoms 100% of the time last year at some point. He always finishes in a condom, but doesn't always start in one, so I know it's not the semen throwing off my pH. However, it could be that he uses a heavily scented men's gel soap. Something to consider, especially if you use a scented soap (or tampon) yourself."
03/06/2011: J. from Tc, Mi replies: "Update: So far so good with the Boric Acid. Inserted 1 tablet at bedtime, and after the second night, NO MORE SMELL! I did a third night last night for good measure.

I found these instructions helpful: community.livejournal.com/vaginapagina/4554521.html

The capsule was easier to insert if I lubed the pill and myself with coconut oil (I used my finger). I did not experience the "gushing" that others report, but my pantyliner was very damp when I woke up, and the dampness continued throughout the morning. But, the yellow discharge was also gone.

My period started today so I will hold off and see what happens after it ends. I'm hoping this is a long-lasting cure. I will report back after 30 days."
03/08/2011: Luckygal from Seattle, Wa replies: "I'm so thankful to have come across this site! I'm glad that I'm not alone in this and that enough of us women are willing to put it all out there in order to help one another.
So, starting in my teen years I was always one who had that natural daily discharge. Clear, no smell, just happened lightly on a daily basis. Totally normal. Then it suddenly changed. Went from what I described to being heavy all day, yellowish, and had a foul smell. I didn't know what was wrong. I was single at the time and not sexually active. I sort of waited it out to see if it'd go away. It didn't! I was so embarrased. I'm a clean person and take care of my body. On some days I could smell it badly through my clothes and wondered if others around me could as well. I couldn't afford to go to the gyno at the time so I just let it go on. I finally did some research on it and discovered it was BV. I was just relieved to figure out what it was finally! After reading how gynos treated it though, I kept seeing that the antibiotics never fully cured a lot of women. So I waited it out longer. Then I came across this website :)

The H2O2 douche sort of scared me, so what I tried first was a tampon soaked in plain yogurt. I figured it'd be a bit messy, so while taking care of that business I did it in the tub. I left it in for 4 hours. No particular reason why. I read one woman did it for 1/2 hour, another for 3 hrs. I just put it in before making dinner then took out before bed. Upon removal, it looked completely free of any color and there was no smell. Yippee!

The next morning (this morning), there was no discharge and still no detectable smell, which is huge for me! Mornings can usually be the worst. I didn't want it to just be a temp fix though. So since so many ladies on here swore by doing the whole regime of hydro, folic, and acidophilus, I decided to at least try a rinse with the 1/2 and 1/2 water to peroxide solution before starting on my supplements. Still being a scaredy cat though, I only rinsed down there, I didn't douche. ANYWAYS, went to the store and bought 800 mgc tabs of Folic Acid along with a probiotic designed specifically for vaginal health. Not sure if I can say the name of the brand, but it's in a pink box, designed by 2 Dr. 's. Took 2 of the folic acids and 2 of the probiotics right away. Tomorrow I figure I'll do the same, except do 1 of each in a. M. Then again in p. M. It hasn't even been 24 hrs yet, but already there has been such dramatic improvement! I'm feeling like ME again. Happy dance! I'll post again in a couple days to give an update."
01/10/2012: N from L.a., Ca replies: "To Jeanne from Traverse City: Did everything you tried work? Because I tried boric acid suppositories for over 2 weeks, while taking those expensive women's probiotics and it still didn't go away. Now I've switched to the douching, acidophilus and folic acid. Only a few days but haven't seen much of a change. I never did have odor though. I'm so concerned about this! Thanks for any help you could give."
01/15/2012: F33lm3 from Ny, Ny replies: "with no smelly discharge that sounds like it might be trich that usually has discharge and not a strong odor. If you dont want to try doctors yet I would get that testing kit that will tell you if its a yeast, bv, or another problem."
01/25/2012: Meagan from Sarnia, Ontario replies: "Wow! It truly disgusts me how many women are suffering with this and there isn't a known cure? I have had this stupid recurring issue for 2 years now and I cannot stand it. I have tried everything from douches, to flagyl, other prescriptions, changing soaps, peroxide, tee tree oil, and the list goes on. I am very upset that no one has found a real remedy that will work for us unfortunate women who suffer with this horrible condition. It is very uncomfortable and embarrassing. Thank you all for sharing your stories."

[YEA]  09/23/2010: Dancer from San Joaquin Valley, Ca writes: "This will work for you. You just need a bit of patience. Completely cured in 2 weeks. Purchase the following:
Summer's Eve disposable douche (empty the contents), Folic Acid 800 mcg, Hydrogen Peroxide and the best Acidophilus you can find. Folic Acid - 800 mcg - twice a day. Acidophilus - Need 4 capsules a day. Hydrogen Peroxide - Several bottles

AM - Take 1 acidophilus and 1 folic acid orally and douche with solution of 1/2 Hydrogen Perox. & 1/2 water. Noon - Take 1 acidophilus orally

Evening - Take 1 acidophilus & 1 Folic Acid orally. Douche with same mixture as AM. Insert 1 acidophilus vaginally (after douching)

If you want to add an extra Acidophilus vaginally at noon, it couldn't hurt. By week three I cut the douching to once a day and continued the oral regimen. By week four, I quit using the peroxide douches but continued with the supplements. I have not had any symptoms of BV for 3 weeks. If anything changes, I'll submit an update."

Thanks again! "
12/02/2010: Mimi from St. Louis, Mo replies: "Its so good to see that I'm not alone. I've been trying to get my doctor to understand how frustrating this is. He gave me a Rx for boric acid to be used for 30 days. That got old very quickly. I tried the peroxide, water an tea tree oil douche.... So far so good. I really think I'm also going to decrease my sugar intake and try to eat healthier. For years I thought I was doomed b/c it would always come back. It made me desire sex less. Hopefully I can begin having a normal sex life again. I ran into a very elderly nurse who told me to use peroxide, she says that's what they used on the patients at a lower income hospital when they couldn't afford the expensive medicine. She swears that it works. Thank you to everyone who posted suggestions."
01/04/2012: Rose from Hinesville, Ga replies: "Hi ladies, My name is Rose. I have been having this problem for a year and a half. I thought I was all alone with this problem. I thought that my husband had given me a sexually transmitted disease, so I had a battery of std test and they all came back clear. I then thought I was goin thru the change or that I had some incurable disease. I came across a site that said taking Milk Thistle and Psyllium Husk and the probiotics will cure it. I just started yesterday but I will try the hydrogen perioxide and water douche and folic acid to see if they work."

[NAY]  07/11/2010: Melhope from Woburn, Ma, United States writes: "Ok so I have been doing the combo of H2O2, Acidophils pills and vagina insert and Folic acid for 3 days now. The first I did the H202 douche the smell went away but I had slight spotting. The smell came back yesterday and today I did the douche again and put plain yogurt in my vagina last night. Well, the smell is still slightly there and I got some more spotting!! I'm so frustrated because it seems like so many women are getting good results from this!! Does anyone think that my non hormonal IUD could be affecting the treatment? OR am I not waiting long enough?"

07/12/2010: Clueless In Nc from Greensboro , Nc replies: "Hello, so far I have been trying the combinations I've read about so far. I didn't realize what I had til I did some research this site saved me a trip to the doctor. So far I find that for the most part 1600mcg of folic acid is the norm, but I'm still doing trial and error with the acidophilus because I'm afraid that I don't over do it and put too much good bacteria. Not quite sure I'm doing the douche correctly. I got a medicine dropper and have been putting it in my vagina that way, is that right? I keep reading about this bag-how do you do that? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks again."
07/17/2010: Gia from Lancaster, Tx replies: "I just read the blog about BV and how it should be treated. I continue to have this ongoing BV and I take over-the-counter and medicine prescribed by doctor. It helps for about a week and then it returns. I was told that I couldn't douche anymore and to use unscented not sensitive dove soap. Also, I just was diagnosed with MRSA in 12/2009, and just wanted to know if the MRSA is why I keep having recurring BV?"
08/02/2010: Kannedy from Baltimore, Md replies: "I'm glad I found this site. I've been struggling with BV off and on for three years now. The first time I took an antibacterial medication which worked almost instantly. The second time (appx 1.5 yrs later) my doctor prescribed me with a gel that did nothing for me so I never went back. It's been over 6 months since I tried the gel and have just been getting frustrated with the odor and discharge! Taking tips from this site has really helped me develop my own regimen. This is what I used and it has worked so far. I douched with 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 cup water twice (two days in between). I also took a women's multivitamin along with 2 tablets of probiotic acidophilus (I take the multivitamin and probiotic daily now). So far, the discharge and odor are gone! Hallelujah! I'll wait to see if it's still okay next month (since I usually notice the odor after my cycle). Question: Does anyone know how prolonged BV affects those trying to conceive?"
08/29/2010: Jennifer from Houston , Texas replies: "I was suffering symptoms that seemed to be BV for three months now. I had mucous discharge and smelled like old lady coochie. I came on earthclinic and tried the remedies but the h2o and acidophilus worked temporially. Thanks to Gia from Lancaster, tx bc mentioned mrsa... I had a single boil in Jan of this year was swabbed and it came back positive for mrsa, took the antibiotics that doctor prescribed after that I found earthclinic and started taking turmeric to prevent another boil. Took turmeric for about 2 weeks but I did feel a faster paced heart beat so I stopped taking it in February. Fast forward to now it's august and I'm feeling gross with this BV and I read GIA's comment on how she was just diagnosed with mrsa and her question if the mrsa and recurrent bv were connected. Well I believe they do and thanks Gia for reminding me of the mrsa bc I made the connection with my previous mrsa case and this recurrent bv( 3 awful months)!!!! So what I did is I immediately took 2 homemade capsules filled with turmeric extract. I took two in morning and two at night. I had a bad stomach pain I could feel the turmeric literally fighting off the bad bacteria in my woman parts! I was cramping and my stomach bloated the first day. Took another two in morning on second day.... I got even more bloated and felt more cramps and even was sleepy plus I felt like I had a fever!!! So by now I'm kinda scared like woah!!! Should I be taking this turmeric maybe I'm doing my body harm- but no I continued with another two at night and I felt like I had the flu and I had a light fever and bloating, etc. But now I was convinced that it must be the turmeric and my body fighting off this infection.... The next morning I feel much better. I take one capsule in the morning day three and u won't believe that the smell of the bv and the awful discharge are gone ALL of it I feel like a new woman I can go without panties if I want!! Instead of wearing a darn pantyliner full of nasty smelling discharge. So I'm going to continue with the turmeric probably one capsule twice a day for about a month. I believe that for me the mrsa was connects to the bv. I have never had bv in my life it showed up a couple of months after I became mrsa positive. Mrsa is a horrible "disease" to live with I thought it was gone bc my boil was gone...."
09/12/2010: Bina B from Merced, Ca replies: "BV is most caused due to a a build up of bad bacteria- your partners unclean hands, your own unclean hands, multiple partners, partners not clean body parts, not changing your sanitary products frequently enough, even getting a small piece of paper or something in your vagina, soaps anything that will cause a flora imbalance, the BIGGIE IS STRESS, < a biggie> because when you are stressed your immune system gets weak, and bad bacteria can invade more easily.

The bad thing about having MRSA which I had back in fourth for about a year KOw which I didnt get rid of until I stopped using the prescribed antibiotic soap because gets rid of both good and bad bacteria on your skin and allows the bad bacteria (MRSA) to flourish and causes an imbalance on your skin- MOST people who have MRSA have compromised immune systems, meaning after taking all those bacteria killing antibiotics you need to restore the balance with good bacteria- and rebalance the natural flora in your body- I do not know why doctors do not tell you this- imbalance can lead to gas, bloating, problems going number two, constant yeast infections & overgrowth, heartburn, lactose intolerance, fatigue the list goes on.

SO that is how MRSA is connected to BV. If you get MRSA you have to take those antibiotics to get rid of it. As far as the BV I would try some of these remedies these other ladies are trying for at least 7 days to 6 months or longer to get your balance back right, eat healthy drink lots of water and eat yogurts from trader Joes (health foods store) twice a day with live cultures, try to stay away from heavy sugars, then that will assist in getting your bodies flora back in shape- I know its easier said then done though. Oh and I forgot get exercise to boost your immune system, and remove yourself from stressful situations. "Also be careful when using acidophilus inserts and such they can irritate your skin down there, its already irritated make sure to apply sterile vaseline or something." Some people have a such a problem

And don't stop your regimen even if you have to take antibiotics again."

[NAY]  10/26/2010: Wanted: A Healthy Vajay from St.louis, Mo replies: "The past few years I have struggled with what I thought was recurring sinusitis and with lifelong asthma, I was living on anti-biotics and high doses of steroid inhalers, but never getting better. I kept getting yeast infections and would get meds called in from the doc, which was always embarrassing having to call about once a month! During this period, I have also became lactose intolerant, which is most definitely NOT helping my already depleted "vaginal ecosystem". After visiting an ENT and getting scoped and an MRI, we come to find out all the sinus infections were due to severe allergies! So I stopped the anti-biotics and went full force on allergy injections once a month and take cetrizine (antihistamine) religiously everyday for the past six months. I have not have one sinus infection since-- yay! But on the down side, I thought I was having a yeast infection from hell, went to the doctor to find out it was BV!! I had been researching yeast infections prior to the doctor's visit and asked the doc if I could get some lactobacillus suppositories to help rebuild my ecosystem. She just prescribed me flagyl. I was skeptical and asked if this was going to be a recurring problem, but she said it shouldn't be.

I researched BV online and found otherwise. Also after reading the insert on the antibiotics, I found the side effects and warnings are that it may cause C-dif and other problems related to wiping out all the bad bacteria- What the heck?? How could doctors SERIOUSLY be treating people with bacterial related infections with this crap?? You would think with all the research and technology we have, aside from the dozens of testimonies women have written online, they would have figured it out by now!! (I also have mild c-dif, which I also presume is from lack of lactose and anti-biotics destroying my good bacteria. ) My mom, an RN for over 20 years suggested an apple cider vinegar douche, but I had been told by doctors for years douches are a no-no. Anyway, I took a round of antibiotics and it went away for a couple of weeks. Now the BV is back with vengeance, preventing me from having sex with my boyfriend---the pain and discomfort are unbearable with bleeding after sex, and constantly smelling like a nasty gym bag!!! I have been looking online for natural remedies--could only find those websites trying to sell A BOOK FOR $30-60--- again, ARE YOU SERIOUS??!

When I found this site, it was an AH-HA moment for me. I am so glad women are finding the lacto capsules with folic acid, B vitamins and H202 douches are effective. I am going out right now to buy some and keep my fingers crossed! I am also interested to hear that women have found avoiding sugar and gluten beneficial. I also suffer from endometriosis and have been trying to follow the "endometriosis diet" to keep it under wraps. It seems there are general guidelines for overall health that come from a simple diet and natural supplements along with regular exercise, sleep, and stress management that our healthcare providers do not emphasize enough and instead skip over to prescribe harmful pharmaceuticals--some are even being manufactured in China!! God knows what is actually in our medications these days."

02/03/2011: Sheila from Kennesaw, Ga replies: "I have suffered from yeast/bv for decades, and have been prescribed everything. I always take probiotics, mega doses, and have researched all of this for years. Now, after hearing all of these testimonials, I'm trying the H2O2, and will get some folic acid, and more probiotics.

I suffered from endometriosis for years. Jonathan V. Wright is one of many that have an all natural "cocktail" of supplements, including black cohosh, Chasteberry, DHEA, etc. That will help with the symptoms of endometriosis. It helped me for four years until finally I did have to have a hysterectomy. But, I did get some relief, and was very grateful. The docs just do not feel comfortable re: anything alternative, unless they have gone back to workshops, etc. And are open to them.

The supplements suggested by Dr. Wright and a multitude of others are amazing.

I am hoping that I will get some relief finally from BV, after suffering, and I do mean SUFFERING for so many years. I was diagnosed and treated and it just keeps coming back. I am on no sugar, no meat, special bread, spelt is wonderful, and hopefully, after starting the H2O2 douches tonight, I will see some results.

I have always believed there was a better way. God bless all of you for sharing, and thank God for the internet!!!!"
05/10/2011: Ikatcure from Hamden, Ct, Uas replies: "Hi, I'm new to the forum. I posted this yesterday but couldn't find it. Hope it's more accessible here.

I was diagnosed with bv 3 years ago and since then I have taken multiple oral and topical antibiotics, all while abstaining from sex, eliminating sugar and refined carbs and taking probiotics and folic acid but my symptoms always returned.

I tried all of the regimines listed on EC for bacterial vaginosis but they all only worked temporarily.

Finally I decided to try oregano oil. I bought it at the health food store. It's also available online. There is an essential oil which should not be used. I used the kind that is blended with olive oil and fit for consumption. I took it orally (3 drops 4 times daily for 14 days) and applied it vaginally (1 drop 2 times a day for 7 days then 1 drop once a day for 7 days). I know that generally it is unadviseable to use this oil vaginally but it was the only thing that worked for me and it was uncomfortable for about 5 minutes a day but completely worth it. It's been 3 weeks now and none of my symptoms have returned. I apply 1 drop internally after sex and take 2 drops daily by mouth. I don't know if it's necessary to continue this treatment but I think I will for the time being just to make sure it's gone for good.

I also inserted a tampon with plain organic yogurt 4 hours after my second oregano oil application and left it for 2 hours daily. (I tried this with the other treatments too so I know this in and of its self wasn't the cure)

This condition has been terrible to try and deal with. Between visits to the DR, prescriptions and various treatments I spent over a thousand dollars trying to treat this without any success. I hope that sharing this remedy will help someone else out there who is still looking for help.

Note! Do not use this cure if you are using condoms as your main mode of contreception - the oil may break down the latex.

Best wishes for good health to all the ladies out there who are suffering with this condition."

06/14/2011: Nursemamaof2girls from A Little Lost Town, Me replies: "I was just diagnosed with this BV crap. This is the second time I have had it. Both times I was unaware I had it because I have no symptoms. I have read over and over that this is the most common vaginal infection out there. Well if it is, then why don't they automatically test you for it during all pelvic exams? If untreated, it can lead to PID. These dr's need to get smart. I refuse to take flagyl for the simple fact that it completely destroys your stomach to pieces and then you are left diarrhea and a yeast infection. No thanks. I just have to say that I am going shopping tomorrow for a few items to try at home! Thanks to all the wonderful women out there that are posting such wonderful advice. And for once I would like a man to deal with this problem just once. They did give me an Rx for metragel. Has anyone tried this and if so did it work? I really don't know what to look for because I honesly don't have the discharge or odor...=/"
08/26/2011: Sarah from Delphos, Ohio replies: "To Nursemamaof2girls, metrogel is the generic form of Flagyl and is of course applied externally rather than the oral route. I have been on and off of metrogel for 11 years now. All I can say is it worked great at first but over the years I developed some resistance to it in addition to diflucan and monistat and then went on to develope VRE down there after a hysterectomy. Metrogel does work great if you have a good immune system then you prolly wont go on to develope any side effects or resistance. One thing to consider if you are on metrogel/flagyl frequently is that it has the potential to be carcinogenic."

[WORKED TEMPORARILY]  07/10/2010: Liz from Los Angeles, Ca writes: "For the last year I've been fighting a BV infection. I have no insurance so I tried everything from Homeoapathy ,yogurt, Acidophilus to H2O2 douche. After about 9 months of this I broke down and paid for a doctor visit and lab tests. I was tested for every STD and everything came back negative and my Pap came back normal. The doctor gave me 3 different antibiotics and nothing has worked. I came across this website and tried the H2O2 (1/2 and 1/2 mixture)Acidophilus (two orally and two vaginally) and Folic Acid (1 a day) combination. It's been 5 days now. It worked for the first two days. Now the smell is back and it's very strong. I'm a bartender and you can only imagine the comments I get from my drunk customers. Can someone give me any other suggestions on what to try?"

I kept getting rid of it but my partner would give it back to me. So myself and my partner were treated with anti-biotics 3 times which caused all sorts of problems with candida that I'm still struggling with today. Anyway, Olive Leaf Extract is what I took, after my partner and I consumed half a bottle, the BV was gone."

Please have them test you for MRSA; you could possible have it. I was finally treated for a sunis infection (w/ Levaquin) and the BV went away as well and never came back. Not suggesting that you be treated w/ that, but it is used to treat various types of bacterial infections. I was only on 1/2 tablet for six days (3 700mg tablets)."

[YEA]  06/06/2010: Ohiogirl from Galena, Ohio writes: "I am so happy I found this site. I've always been an advocate for natural remedies. I'd had this god-awful itch in the "nether region" for months. So bad that I was getting cracked and raw from scratching in my sleep! Plus, a weird smell that was not like a yeast infection smell. Best way to describe it was "old lady" coochie smell! I'm in the beginning part of menopause, which isn't making me happy anyway. So, thinking another upsetting downside to being over 50 when I feel 30 was really making me mad. So, I started searching and tripped over this site. I read almost all the posts and accepted that I had BV. That night, I did the H202 douche. I poured about 1 cup of the hydrogen peroxide in the bag and filled the rest with luke warm water and took care of that task. I have to say that the weird smell was immediately gone! There was no other weirdness to report about the douce, no foaming coochie or burning - nothing like that, just immediate smell gone. The next day I went to the health food store and bought live acidophilus and Folic Acid 800 mcg. I took 1 of each, twice that day for 2 days. The itch is gone, the smell is gone. I will continue to make the acidophilus and folic acid a part of my daily supplements, I am taking 1 of each with my morning smoothie. A note about yogurt....since the late 70's, I have used a yogurt douche a few times a year, for just a general healthy cleaning. My awesome Gyno actually told me it was a great idea! I had read about it in Cosmo and thought I'd ask him about it before trying it. Since I was always getting yeast infections and having to use those god awful suppositories, I asked him about it and he highly recommended I try it. Well, it works GREAT! Just mix plain yogurt (about 1/2 - 3/4 cup) with luke warm water. It will look like thin milk. Douche with it. You can do it more than once if you feel like it. It's so refreshing, knowing you won't have a smell if you get sweaty working in the yard, or a long day of shopping and walking while on a hot vacation, etc...you know that smell! However, this didn't fix the BV! The H202 douche, acidophilus and folic acid have fixed this. What a wonderful way to treat this nasty female problem! I hope my experience helps someone else."

06/07/2010: Ohiogirl from Galena, Oh replies: "ONE MORE THING.....I have some theories about why this happens or even comes back. First, it could be your "toys"! Latex or plastic may harbor some bacteria if not properly cleaned after use. Or even if cleaned thoroughly, maybe alot of use could be irrating and disrupting the natural PH of your insides. Second, it could be your partner! Maybe his fingers were not clean before putting them in or around you. Even their penis can carry nasty bacteria due to being sweaty or just not clean. Their tongue - well, god knows what kind of bad stuff is harboring in one's mouth. So, for those of you that are complaining about this coming back - take a look at your partner and/or your toys! We need to think about all the reasons this could have happened or why there are reoccurances. Just thought I'd share that thought. Anyone else?"

I leave it in all night if I can or when ever I wake up. I do the yogurt tampon mix for 3 days. This will get rid of it. However, after having intercourse you need to do the mix again. At the same time, I felt sad because I know exactly how all of you women feel/felt. Nothing worked. Yeah, antibiotics worked for a bit and then the next week it was back. The smell, the disgusting discharge.. It was just plain embarrassing.

I was completely desperate and the itching was at an all time extreme. I first tried the tampon soaked mixture of ~1/2 cup HP and 1 1/2 cup water. Instantly the smell, itching and discharge was gone. Unfortunately it returned a few days later. I decided to do the HP for a week, 1 or 2x a day (this lead to an irritation but I kept going with it). It helped but if I didn't do it everyday it would come back. Finally, I added 2 Acidophilus capsules and 1 400 mcg Folic Acid tablet to my vitamin regimen as well as one HP wash a week. No smell, no itching, no discharge. I was actually surprised to see normal discharge after not seeing it for so long(so that's what it looks like!) I don't think there is a "absolute cure" but it is something that can be managed via vitamins and to be honest, I am happy with that."

04/26/2010: Eesmith from Athens, Texas, U.s.a. replies: "You are douching correctly for Bacterial Vaginosis. All the fluid will flow up into the vagina and then flow out again. It's best to do it in the shower, I've found. Good luck. My recipe is 1/3 cup H2O2, 1/3 cup water, and 5 drops tea tree oil. I saw this as a recipe for a cleansing splash. I like it for a douche also. I rinse with a plain water douche after 3-5 minutes. After an hour, I insert the contents of 2 acidophilus capsules mixed with water to a paste into the vagina with a medicine syringe; and one odorless garlic gelcap as a suppository. Additionally, I have used the following:

1 multivitamin (I like the chewables)
500 mg vitamin C 2x daily
800 mg folic acid 2x daily
1 probiotic
500 mg B12 1x daily

Hope this helps. I will post an update on how I do. I am sooooooo grateful to have found this site!"

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS]  01/29/2010: Marixpress from Bronx, Ny, Usa writes: "Based on all testimonials I've read, here is my treatment plan/journal:

Night 1
Took one 400mg folic acid & one tablet acidophilus (millions) with food per bottles' directions. Douched with standard douche bottle filled with about 1/4 cup straight undiluted 3% peroxide while laying down in empty bathtub. I let it sit about 3-5 minutes. No sting, no burn. I did hear fizz and squeezed out a little bit of foam. Douched with plain tap water to rinse. Sleep without underwear.

Next day results:
Finger test revealed odor reduced significantly (I'd say by 90%). Discharge not present on underwear most of the day, however, thick pasty discharge along vaginal walls. No change in itching/burning/discomfort (mild to moderate-unsure if this is due to BV or due to undiluted 3% peroxide). Took one 400mg folic acid at breakfast, and another at lunch (800mg daily total). Drank plenty of water.

Night 2
Took one tablet acidophilus (millions) with dinner. Inserted one teaspoon of straight 3% peroxide via medicine syringe while laying down. Waited 5 minutes. The peroxide bubbled but caused no burning or stinging. Flushed out vagina with plain tap water several times to rinse. Sleep without underwear.

Next day results:
Finger test revealed faint to no odor at all. No discharge. However, I started spotting. Wonder if my period will affect the treatment. Mild external discomfort. Took one 400mg folic acid at breakfast, and another at lunch (800mg daily total). Drank plenty of water.

Night 3
Took one tablet acidophilus (millions) with dinner. Douched with about 1/4 cup peroxide and 1/4 cup water. Again, no burning or stinging. Sleep with pad as I now have my period.

Next day results:
Odor completely gone. Discharge gone. Slight external irritation that is exacerbated by my maxi pad. Continued taking (and will continue taking) Folic Acid & Acidophilus as indicated above.

I will stop the peroxide treatments for now as I suspect that is the cause of my vaginal irritation. I have not had sex or used tampons during treatment. I'm afraid to insert anything in there. If my BV reoccurs, I will reply to this post with an update. If you don't hear from me, it means I am cured! Thank you EVERYONE for your input and tips. I definitely feel (and smell) practically 100% better."

I don't usually submit information on sites like this...but I was so pleased with what I read, that I wanted to say thank you to everyone for sharing their success stories and I wanted to share what worked for me (and I tried a ton of different things). I take the following everyday:

(2) acidophilus capsules by mouth

folic acid 800 mcg by mouth

B12 500 mcg by mouth

For 3-5 days at bedtime, I douched vaginally with full strength Hyrogen peroxide mixed with a few drops of tea tree oil. This was very refreshing and helped with the uncomfortable feeling.

The next night at bedtime, I inserted a tampon covered in plain yogurt and I cut open one of my acidophilus capsules and sprinkled the powder on the yogurt (I also cut down the size of the small tampon once it expanded from the yogurt).

I only used the yogurt tampon 1 time and within 4 days, the smell was completely gone and no uncomfortable pain....I feel great! I still take the pills everyday, but have cut down to 1 acidophilus capsule a day. I will keep you posted if things change...but so far so good! Thanks to everyone for all of their helpful posts:)"

Well, i had almost given up until just recently. I decided to give up douching and taking pills. I begain a no sugar, no carb diet over a week ago. It's really amazing because that very day of givign up the carbs and sugar....my symptoms COMPLETELY went away!! No joke...no aweful smell, no discharge, no itching, no pain....NO NOTHING! I'm totoally back to normal.

I was wondering if anyone else has tried this and has it worked? It's just too much of a coincident. I guess i stopped feeding the bacteria sugar so my body was able to fight back on its own....go figure.

I am soooo happy!! I hope this will work for others and I'd love to hear about it!"

05/06/2010: Annette from Seattle, Wa replies: "I have been fighting yeast or BV for months. The diet was the start for me. The final clincher was when I figured out the importance of keeping the area dry. I use a hair dryer on air after every shower and once or twice a day with a mild wash with unscented soap and water. Dry, dry, dry. My spouse had been suffering with some itching so he also used the hair dryer. He was cured (no more creams) in two days. Hence we are both improving. The diet is a must if the source is in your gut. Hang in there and you will eventually be able to eat more of the old fun foods, but be aware, they are not as yummy as you remember!"

I found this website in a desperate online search to find something to naturally cure my BV. I kept washing repeatedly and it only got worse. I stumbled on to this website and read EVERY review, and decided to try washing with H202 and taking the acidophilus and folic acid. I went to the store on my lunch hour, came back to work and took 5 probiotic acidophilus capsules. I also took 4-400mcg folic acid pills and even inserted two acidophilus vaginally. The capsules inserted vaginally didn't seem to dissolve, just kind of sat in there and the outer lining broke down. After one full day - I noticed a slight improvement - but felt pretty disheartened after seeing so many people have immediate results. I took the same dosage twice the next day, and inserted three capsules vaginally. I continued rinsing, yet never douching with H202 and by the third day, when I had sex with my boyfriend (sorry to be graphic) there was NO smell, NO whitish discharge left on him. I used to be SO embarrassed to have sex with him, and now everything is AWESOME! ONLY THING TO NOTE - YOU MUST KEEP TAKING THIS. If you do not - it WILL COME BACK. 05/12/2011: Jenny from Lexington, Ky, Usa replies: "Hi fellow BV buddies,

I'd never even heard of this until 6 months ago - despite its fame. I too, suffered the same symptoms (e.g. , odor, white discharge, inflammation after sex). By this time, I'd been with my boyfriend for over 6 months. I immediately went for an STI test. Nothing. I do research for a living and am well versed in the medical journals. I started doing some mild research and found the antibiotics that all physicians are quick to prescribe. I took Flagyl for 10 days - had the same side effects as everyone else. I quickly learned that this drug just screws your body up even more because then you have to worry with a yeast infection and the high potential for recurrence.

After Flagyl, I started taking folic acid and probiotics along with a multivitamin religiously because I read somewhere that it might help and it definitely helps your immune system. I think it kept things at bay. Then, thinking I was okay, I took a holiday and stopped for a week.

So, a few months later, BV came knocking on my door again after I thought I had this thing licked. Same sex partner too.

I dug more and more into the research, medical journals, read many many research findings based on meta-analysis - here's the dealio.

Basically, the reason your vagina smells is because the acidity isn't there - it becomes neutralized with a base (semen). After sex (even perhaps with a condom) it brings the scent out more because your acidic flora is being tampered with. This corresponds with a weakened immune system - which is undoubtably affected by the psychological stress of managing this dysfuntion, smoking, bad diet, drinking, etc. The odor and follow up conversation sucks and we are very aware of the psychological trauma associated with this.

In addition, BV occurs when bacteria that normally produce hydrogen peroxide in your vagina become deficient. While some folks say there is mild success with boric acid, it's only temporary. It theoretically kills off bad bacteria - but, we have to replace those good bacteria to jump start our flora again. I never did the boric acid.

Based on the scientific findings, (or God or whatever you believe), probiotics (e. G. , acidophillus - which is part of the larger Lactobacillus family) cannot harm you. Even if you insert it vaginally, it hasn't been shown to cause any harm. Other countries have used this method far more than the U.S.

The peroxide douche is not necessarily bad, but I know us as women, and we want success right away. If you do the douche, be sure it's sterile, use a small amount of peroxide with water, and don't do it again. Just start your program with it. It should kill the smell because H2O2 is in our vaginas normally, but BV takes this away. The peroxide we normally have in our vaginas works to keep our PH normal.

If you do the peroxide, fine. That night, insert two priobiotic capsules vaginally, take a couple orally, take a couple folic acid and a multivitamin that has a strong dose of Vitamin B, and go to sleep.

The next day, when you eat breakfast, pop a couple probiotics, folic acids, and multivitamin with food. You may notice more discharge this day, this is pretty normal. And, the capsules likely worked their way out - the bacteria stays but the grits of the capsules have to come out somehow.

Before bed, insert two probiotics vaginally. The idea is that you are putting the goods back in. If you keep the douching, science has shown time and time again, that you won't restore any "natural" back to your flora because you are stripping it of it's normal ecosystem.

If you do this for a week - you WILL see, smell, feel, and taste a difference. If you don't use condoms, USE THEM - especially when you are on this regiment. It won't help to keep poluting your coohoo with his alkaline sperm when you are trying to re-acidify it. If you never tasted this (sounds gross, yes, but men do it to us), you need to. It tastes so bizarre - almost acidic. But remember bleach is a base rather than an acid. Once you work on getting your immune system healthy by these natural remedies, your body will follow. Keep your immune system healthy and your recurrence will likely diminish.

Worked for me."

08/16/2011: Michele from Marion, Ohio replies: "I have had BV on and off for several years. The antibiotic worked the first time, but never again. Tried alot of things including yogurt douche, teetree oil, etc. When the BV came back I started drinking 1 Tablespoon of Braggs cidar vinegar and water which within three days twice a day the BV was gone. It returned again and the vinegar helps but does not seem to get rid of it completely. Once again back to drawing board and I have read that your system is too acidic and needs to be more alkaline. I started eating more alkaline foods including watermellon, vinegar water, and vegetables and this has help tremedously but it's still not completely gone. I just started taking the b complex (not sure how safe it is to take just the folic acid, I read you will throw off the other B's if you just take one) The complex has the folic acid included. I'm not sure why you say the vagina is more alkaline? Any comments would be appreciated."

To also make matters worse I'm a nurse and I didn't want to pay some doctor to give me something that only helps for a short while. Doctor's visits and prescription medicine aint cheap. Thank God for google and the internet, as well as all the women who shared the stories. I tried the refrigerated acidophillis (5 billion), folic acid 800 mg capsule, peroxide douche, and mixed powered acidophillus with water to make paste and coated a tampon with it. the next day no more nasty odor or discharge. I'm goin to do this for 3 more days."

diluted hydrogen peroxide mini douche (using 2 partially filled eyedroppers)

2 acidophilus caplets by mouth (40 million)

folic acid 800 mcg by mouth

B12 500 mcg by mouth

1 odorless garlic capsule vaginally

At bedtime, I took another 400 mcg folic acid and placed 1 acidophilus vaginally.

This morning, I'm still fresh as a daisy. I cannot believe how easy this was. Will update as to whether is stays gone!"

This problem seem to easy to fix but yet so many women are struggling with it. Please tell me the truth."
12/02/2009: Dd from Miami, Fl replies: "Jainee,

All testimonies are factual, we're all real women dealing with the same thing. I think the reason drs don't prescribe "home remedies" is because they are working with the drug makers, think about it, if you can relieve your each for a $1.00 a bottle of hydrogen peroxide what on earth with they do with all those $20 tubes of whatever cream you get! I've spent $100's on so many different products it just seemed to easy for this to work.

I got a non-needle syringe and I fill a glass with 1/2 water have hydrogen peroxide, then whenever it seems I need a little boost, I just douche with it in the shower. I'm noticing the pattern of needing it maybe once or twice a week so I do like Sunday and Wednesday. Plus I do the folic acid and acidophylus orally every day.

Good luck!!! "

You didn't mention what you are contemplating trying for that BV but if you want to maintain that pregnancy stay far away from anything that might dissolve that mucus plug in the cervix, such as peroxide or vinegar douches."

No kidding, within 1 day all symptoms were gone! I have struggled with this problem off and on since I had a hysteroctomy 8 years ago. After moving in with my boyfriend in July, it had become unbearable to me, the odor was horrifying, I didn't want any intimacy because of it. I tried so many "remedies" but nothing seemed to work very well or for more than a day or two. I read the feedback from other women on here 7 weeks ago and ran to the drugstore immediately. After douching with the peroxide/water mix, taking the acidophilus pill and folic acid, it was too good to be true! the first week I used the douche solution 3x to be on the safe side and took the vitamins everyday. I now take 1 acidophilus pill and a folic acid tablet daily, and have had no reaccurance at all. For less than $20 I was able to buy everything I needed and be free of this horrible problem. Much cheaper than my doctor visit co-pay, and much cheaper than the meds the doctor prescribed that only took away the severity of the symptoms. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the women who were willing to talk about this embarrassing subject on here!"

I tried most of the remedies on this site and found so far that only two gives me satisfactory results. The tampon dipped in yogurt only worked for me for about several hours whereas the H202 and acidophilus douches worked longer for me. There is also a paste that I make using the contents of 2 acidophilus capsules and mixing with enough water to make a paste that I put up inside me. This has worked wonders for me! I have made some lifestyle changes (laundering my undies in only dye-free and fragrance-free detergent; unscented bath soap; dye-free fragrance-free dryer sheets, making sure the crotch on my undies are always white cotton, showers instead of baths; no commercial douches; no feminine sprays for "down there", etc) I have recently started keeping a daily log of which remedy I am using and how long the symptoms stayed away. In this way I can see what is actually working and stop doing the ones that are not producing the results I desire. Havent tried the apple cider vinegar bath yet but it is on my list."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  10/22/2009: Smn from Birmingham, Al writes: "I am extremely happy I found this site! After my most recent bout with BV and taking Flagyl (NASTY tasting) and Metrogel gives you a yeast infection afterwards. I got fed up and googled for home remedies for this condition. I read alot of posts on here & decided to try some of the remedies. I figured what do I have to lose?? The results shocked me and they really do work. Downside? You have to maintain the routine for life. It's worth it!
Here is what I do: douche wih 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 water twice weekly (douche with plain water afterwards). I eat one of those yogurt cups daily (make sure it has live active cultures in it). I take 800 mg of Folic Acid daily. Also two acidophilus supplements daily. I open up an acidophilis capsule and mix with enough water to make a paste then use a clean finger to put it up inside me. I do this twice weekly. I drink at least a glass of cranberry juice daily. I tried the tampon dipped in plain yogurt with active live cultures a few hours ago and I am smell free already!

I also made some other lifestyle changes: no scented bath soap, bubble baths or anything like that. I use unscented soap. I even purchased unscented laundry detergent and dryer sheets. I threw out all my old underwear and bought new ones. I only use condoms.

I admit I was afraid that douching would make it worse as I grew up thinking that ALL douching was bad. Depends on what you douche with. The peroxide douches have worked for me with no side effects. You have to figure out what works for you."

I take a probiotic with 16 billion good bacteria in it and it has cleared up my sinus infection and also my yeast. The good bugs kill off all the yeast. It is also good for bacterial infections since the bugs are good bacteria. I believe it will also help the immune systen for the flu season. I havent seen much about people taking a good probiotic for cures. a good probiotic is the answer to a lot of ailments. It would pay to do some research on this."

I first tried it 2 or three months ago and i'm still using this combo daily. I was very disappointed. I am 40 yrs old and have had BV for almost 2 years!! this suxx. The most this combo does for me is keep my itchy burning symptoms at bay. I have no odor but I do have discharge. I have seen a great difference in switching to acidophilus from probiotics but nothing - not even drinking lots of water- keep it away.

Here's a question: Has anyone tried Don Quai or St. Johns Wort - since BV may be caused by a hormonal imbalance?"

10/27/2009: H from Bixby, Ok replies: "It takes a little trial and error to get it right. I have not had BV recur since December. I used the folic acid and acidophilous tablets orally for about a month along with other vitamins but haven't taken them for several months. I do eat yogurt 4 times a week.

About twice a month I douche with half apple cider vinegar/half distilled water (in a small disposable douche bottle). The apple cider vinegar can sting a little so I try not to do the douche too often. Every day in the shower I do a little splash of the following mixture: half hydrogen peroxide/half distilled water/10 drops tea tree oil.

This regimen, combined with vitamins and decent diet, seems to keep the BV (and yeast) away. I really think the apple cider vinegar douche was key for me. The hydrogen peroxide is better for me as a wash. Boric acid didn't work at all.

I just got a cosmetic procedure called labiaplasty to cosmetically correct hypertrophic labia minora. It is a plastic surgery to correct what some may deem a physical problem. However, I think an added benefit will be less tissue to collect bacteria and odor. This is certainly a radical choice and the jury is still out on 'why' or 'if' a woman should make such a choice. I certainly wouldn't recommend it for everybody but for me personally, I think it will help alleviate the excessive moisture and odor that have plagued me for many years. But time will tell.

I'll continue to use my apple cider vinegar douche and H2O2 splash as well."

[YEA]  10/08/2009: Joan from Atlanta, Ga writes: "Cure.

This works:

50 ml of 3% H2O2 50 ml distilled water - douche with this combo TWICE. Next, douche with an empty bottle of water. Afterwards, insert acidophillus. I purchased a brand that contains over 1 billion live cultures of various lactobillus groups. Wouldn't recommend inserting the pill as its hard to dissolve. I purchased a yest infection kit for the plunger, opened the pills and emptied the contents into the plunger. Adding a little yogurt helps keep the substance in place. Do this in the morning & at night for 3 -5 days. POOF! IT'S GONE! Also, ingest 400 mg of folic acid four times a day (totalling 1600 mg). I would also recommend a 10-day cleanse, fast, or parasite cleanse to erradicate all parasites from your body after getting rid of the bv to make sure it doesn't come back. Change diet, cut back on alcohol, cotton panties, "air out" at night, and eat lots of yogurt to keep it away. Hope this helps. "

1) Collodial Silver douche as well as taking 1 tbsp orally 2x / day
2) 800 mg folic acid 2x / day
3) Probiotic 1x day
4) Acedophilus 1 billion capsule 1x day
5) Capsules which contain Caprylic Acid, Pau D'Arco, Grapefruit seed extract and tea tree oil (found at nutrition store)
6) Vitamin C 1000 mg capsules
I highly recommend taking capsules versus tablets.

The hydrogen peroxide douches didn't work for me. When I changed to collodial silver douches in conjunction with the cocktail of vitamins/supplements above, I really saw results quickly. Try different combinations of what is recommended here. Clearly one persons solution doesn't work for all but relief is out there when you find the right combination of healthy remedies.

I'd like to thank everyone on this blog for all of the recommendations. Without your feedback, I don't think I'd be cured."
10/25/2011: Trueresearcher25 from Sunnyville, Fl replies: "Is there anyone who has taken folic acid, acidophilus, and tried to eat yogurt (just orally not vaginally) to cure (BV)? I personally prefer not to douche.

The following comes from: http://www.medicinenet.com (article about vaginal douche)

One way to look at it is in a healthy vagina there are both good and bad bacteria. The balance of the good and bad bacteria help maintain an acidic environment. Any changes can cause an over growth of bad bacteria which can lead to a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis.

Plus, if you have a vaginal infection, douching can push the bacteria causing the infection up into the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. Research shows that women who douche regularly have more health problems than women who don't.

If there is a strong odor or irritation it usually means something is wrong. Douching can increase your chances of infection. The only time you should douche is when your doctor tells you to

Most doctors say it's best to let your vagina clean itself. The vagina cleans itself naturally by making mucous. The mucous washes away blood, semen, and vaginal discharge. You should know that even healthy, clean vaginas may have a mild odor."

I started getting BV about 4 years ago. At first it was VERY sporadic, just happened twice in a span of two years. But since I met my current boyfriend a little over a year ago, it began happening once every 2 months. The discomfort can actually be crippling sometimes, and I often found myself chasing after prescriptions & running to the pharmacy time and time again.

BUT, I found this site last night, when the flare up began...and let me tell you TWO HOURS later I was feeling better, and woke up this morning without a problem. All I did was a combo of:

1) Hydrogen Peroxide Water (equal parts) douche
2) 1 pill women's multi vitamin, with Folic Acid
3) 1 pill probiotic (Acidophilus)

THAT's it. I'm back to normal! After reading everyone else's responses, I am definitely going to limit the douche to only when I get a flare up / after my period. I'm going to continue taking the vitamins & probiotic, once a day, just because they're healthy. And, I'm going to add yogurt to my diet!

Thanks to everyone for their helpful testimonies - I can't believe I'm feeling 100% in a matter of 12 hours (it doesn't even ease up that fast with anti-biotics!)."

I am 20 years old and can't go an hour without running to the bathroom to make sure I don't smell, or have too much discharge. Well anyway, I tried the acidopholis, folic acid and H2O2 douche. I started off with 1600 mg of folic acid twice a day and 4 1 billion of acidopholis. and the 1/2 water 1/2 peroxide douche. It worked great! For two days. Now I believe it's either back and worse, or I have a bladder infection. Now I'm taking just acidopholis and folic acid. I have alot of pain in the region, but the discharge is minimal and the smell is gone. This is why I believe its another infection that I probably got from the douche. My point is, you should always try just the supplements first! I will never douche again no matter how bad this gets because I'm almost sure that's what made my situation worse! Be patient. Although this has made my situation worse, I'm very happy that I stumbled across this website. It's nice to see that I'm not alone, and it amazes me how many different remedies are out there. I've tried the MetroGel, Teraconzyl, even other home remedies like drinking and doing a sits bath of apple cider vinegar! I have been using this method every time this nasty infection comes back, went a good 7 to 8 months with no problem but just got it back, because i used scented tampons. So stay away from those! We have to start thinking why we are getting this, pay attention to what might trigger it. To those women who say they are inserting the acidophilus capsules, and are getting a very yellow gritty discharge, i have experienced that as well and had no luck with that brand of acidophilus. I have come to find out that the best acidophilus to insert vaginally is the acidophilus pearls (it will say pearls or beads on the box, instead of capsues, or pills) The brand that works instantly comes in a purple box, since i cant say the brand. Look for a pearl, or bead of acidophilus that has many of the bacteria we need to put back into our bodies like not only lactobacillus acidophilus, but also bifidobacterium longum, lactobacillus rhamnosus, and bifidobacterium. I have found that brands that have all of this plus no milk or other stuff in the ingredients works the best, also you want lots of live cultures, the one i use has 2.5 billion live cultures in one acidophilus pearl. I do 1600mg folic acid twice daily, h202 douche for 3 days to a week, and two acidophilus pearls a day, one inserted at night before bed after h202 douche, for one week. I hope this helps. Had alot of practice fighting this thing. if u feel it coming back, like a slight itch, or sweet smell, quickly do a h202 douche and insert a pearl, and start back on the dosage for a week or so. Good luck ladies."
