Being extremely weak and anemic from my monthly cycle. I decided to try black strap molasses. I put a Tbs. in my green tea several times a day. I feel so much better, not weak, faint or light headed. My husband even got into it and he said it gave him energy. The doctor who lives next door recommended Floridine from the Natural Health Food Store, it smells and tastes just like molasses only more expensive. I wish I would have found the benefits of molasses a long time ago. I remember my mom used to have some in her kitchen cabinet and put it in baked beans.
Molasses and iron.
Organic iron - good. Metallic iron - bad. Iron in its elemental state is what is used in most drugstore vitamins, and in most iron fortified cereals, flour etc. Read the label and it will say iron or reduced iron. Reduced means the iron filings are ground up very small. It is still like chewing on a nail, and elemental iron CAUSES pernicious anemia and a lot of other probs. It is toxic. Avoid iron fortified 'anything' like the plague.
But molasses is the right stuff. All the minerals therein have been filtered and processed through the plant and are in organic form. Just think. They get rid of the fiber, most of the water and sugar, and what is left is concentrated organic minerals. You would pay a premium price for it if it were in capsules and a fancy bottle at the health food store. But guess what! It is delicious and cheap and available most everywhere. This is the best health bargain there is.

I have been reading about iron because I'm not into meat... But I read you and your husband are mixing the black strap with tea.... There are beverages that block iron absortion and tea-coffee-milk are some of the drinks. So you might want to change that to reap the full benefits...
I became very anemic last year almost to the point of having an endometrial ablation and blood transfusions! I took my health into my own hands and did lots of research. Blackstrap molasses (unsulfured) restored my iron levels and my energy! I still take it everyday!
I have have the same issues with anemia. I also had an ablation and thought this would help with losing so much blood every month. I thought this was the answer to my nightmare, however I was wrong. My period is never ending. I myself said I was going to take matters into my own hands.I heard about the molasses and my fiance went and bought some so I hope this works to get my iron up and hopfully stop me from bleeding so much. I'm glad I'm not alone but hate we have these issues. Thanks for sharing :)
I have been anemic all my life. When I decided to change my eating habits and study herbalism, I came across a book that talked about how black strap molasses could shrink tumors and how high it was in iron. I use to have the ice cravings but no more. For the first time in my life I am not anemic. My mother was very surprised and has started using the product for herself. It works! I am living proof; if you're anemic, take 1 tablespoon each morning in a half cup of warm water and it will do the trick! Nature is a wonderful thing!
I use Plantation Unsulphered blackstrap molasses. It cured anemia and increased my iron levels. Prior to taking molasses again, I used otc iron pills with minimal visible results. I now take two TBS daily of the molasses, and my iron levels rose. Although the molasses tastes different, it's better to take molasses now then chemo later in life.
I work as a Nurse Practitioner in a hematology clinic. Please remember that not all patients with anemia have it because of low iron stores. Too much iron can have significant medical side effects. Therefore, I would recommend having your iron blood levels checked prior to starting any replacement iron, molasses, or other herbal products.
I was considering Molasses as I had a friend that used it successfully for her arthritis. I appreciate the warning on the iron as I recently had a blood test as part of a normal physical check-up, and although I am very healthy, I have been warned not to take iron supplements and to give blood 3 times a year due to my body storing the iron. Therefore, it is kind to warn people as not everyone might be aware of having this condition. I certainly wasn't until recently.

I have been anemic for over 10 years after my last pregnancy. My doctors (I have several within these 10 years) asked me to take OTC iron supplements once a day for life. One of them even called me to go for blood transfusion. Not good at taking direction, I only took the supplement only once in a while when I felt too tired. I also declined the advice for blood transfusion. I thought my iron supply should be enough with the food I eat. Until recently, my latest doctor suggested that may be, just may be I was anemic not because of iron but something else. She sent me for a blood work, testing both the iron level and the genetic condition called "Thalassemia". Sure enough, my anemic condition is not because of iron, but because of Thalassemia. What is more - I am now overloaded with iron 3x the max amount. Luckily I did not religiously taking the supplement, otherwise my liver, heart and spleen would be severely damaged by now. Just thought to share my experience.

i just wanted to add that it is a disorder that affects people of mediterranean decent. my mother was Greek, and she, my sister and brother have it (the minor form), but like you said, IRON is very bad for these people.

just because you are from that background doesn't mean that is the type of anemia you have, i was just saying that this type of anemia is found in some people from those areas.
also, anemia can be from different deficiencies; iron, b12, folic acid, copper, etc.
I also have thalassemia. Most doctors do not know the difference between iron poor blood and thalassemia when seen microscopically. A special test for thalassemia is required. Fortunately, my general doctor sent me to a hematologist to find the cause of my anemia.
Several years later I became pregnant. I went to "the best" obgyn clinic in a nearby city. I told them about my thalassemia and they ignored me. I saw four doctors there who all prescribed iron supplements. I repeatedly told them to research thalassemia, and I even mailed them material on the subject, still they ignored me.
I refused to take the extra iron. If I had not known better, these doctors could have caused my unborn son and myself serious health health issues such as heart damage. At age three, my son was also diagnosed with anemia. His pediatrician -- "the best in town" -- insisted I put him on iron supplements, even after I told him my son might have thalassemia. I refused and insisted he prescribe a thalassemia test at the nearby hospital. The doctor reluctantly agreed. The test showed my son also has thalassemia.
Blackstrap molasses isn't high in iron like red meat or iron pills. It's similar to spinach.
The difference is that BSM has fulvic and humic acids from the soil that helps plants and animals better absorb and retain minerals, like iron. Thus, this warning isn't needed.
I am extremely Anemic, especially during that time of month. I have tried Iron pills and Iron efficient foods such as spinach, but nothing really helped. So I looked in a natural cure book and I found out that pure black strap molasses has a high Iron proficiency so I mixed two heaping tablespoons of molasses in a glass with 16 oz of cold milk. I drank this concoction once or twice a day. It gave me so much energy and I didn't feel so sluggish during that time of month. Plus This molasses drink tastes so good (Much better than taking it straight), and just as effective. the sad part is pure black strap molasses is kind of expensive so I am not able to take it all the time. I would appreciate it if someone knows where I could get pure molasses for a cheap price to post it on this site, as I visit it frequently to find different cures.
I have been extremely anemic most of my life. When I was pregnant they gave me the iron pills and they will constipate you and are not even a good source of iron. I got on the House of herbs black strap molasses and it made such a difference. It has 70% iron and I haven't found any other with such high content. I lost a baby and they wanted me to have a blood transfusion, but I didn't want to so instead to build my blood back up fast, I used the black strap molasses. I was recently diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and rheumatoid arthritis and am more anemic with the disease and recently I have been so fatigued and in reading about my disease and realizing I was just extremely anemic, I got the molasses out and instantly, I felt better in my head and had more energy. I have now ran out of it and have not been able to find the House of Herbs kind anywhere. This is why I got on here and if anybody can tell me where to order it, I would sure appreciate it. It is a life saver and the difference between feeling good and not. Thank you!

To one of the readers that had a miscarraige and rhuematoid arthritus and osteoporosis and severe anemia; and in fact, to all of you on this website that have unexplained anemia. Please look up and research thoroughly Celiac Disease. Celiac is a autoimmune response to gluten found in wheat, barley and rye. Just for pure knowledge (because few drs ever mention it), it is fascinating. I stumbled upon it myself and have 2/3rds of the symptoms. The major symptom is unexplained anemia. The number of diseases it's associated with is astonishing. Also google things like: 'testimonials of people who stopped eating wheat' and versions of testimonials. It's enlightening. Wishing you all good health. Note: This site is great. I'm going to frequent it! -L
Can I put blackstrap molasses to a cup of chanca piedra tea/decoction??? Recently I always have a low blood pressure, 90/60, but I don't know if it's because I have iron deficiency anemia or what. Is it safe to take BSM even if I'm not sure if my blood pressure is due to lack of iron in my system. Please answer my questions.
I think it would be fine to put Blackstrap Molasses in your Chanca Piedra tea. I have used Blackstrap to sweeten herbal tea used for medicinal purposes. Although, I would defer to Bill's wisdom in this as he is very experienced with that herb, I believe.
Is a blood pressure of 90/60 lower than your normal? That is about what mine is and I always considered it to be okay. Do you feel poorly right now?
Blackstrap Molasses is a food and seems to suit most people. Even some with diabetes can use it. Some people have a high iron condition, and I would think it would not be a good idea for them to take it.

I take a tblsp of blackstrap in the morning and "chase it" with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, with the mother in it, with 3 tablespoons of warm water. In 1994, I was diagnosed with metatastic breast cancer at the age of 53. I had my femur replaced, took 10 radiation treatments and 6months of chemo. I have been on this regimen and KNOW that these things are from GOD made ingredients and, therefore, have kept me well. I have always been a borderline anemic. My blood counts are better than they have EVER been in my entire life. I believe if I had been doing these things for myself BEFORE I got cancer that I would NOT have had cancer in the first place.
my iron levels were dangerously low, my doctor had me taking 40,000mls. a week of procrit and 975mlgs. daily iron supplements. after 2 months of this i had been told that i was going to have to restart my iron treatments again. so instead of putting all those chemicals into my system again, i started drinking a glass of warm milk with 3tblspn of molasses every day. I am happy to report that after 3 weeks of this my iron levels and energy levels have steadily improved.
One teaspoon daily dipped and dripping with Blackstrap Molasses (House of Herbs 70% iron content) totally eliminated my anemia, dizziness and fatigue. I drink it in hot water or eat it straight off the spoon. If I forget to take it or run out, all symptoms return within days.
I have tried the blackstrap molasses and it's wonderful. I'm anemic and have to take iron pills once a day. I haven't taken them in almost 3 weeks since I been using the blackstrap molasses. I'm full of energy and my fingernails are growing strong. I don't suffer with constipation anymore or irregular bowel movements.
It seemed to work on my mood immediately, as in within 2 days. My anxiety went WAY down very quickly. Very pleased with this and absolutely sure its the BSM.
I was suffering from anxiety -- was afraid of traveling by myself and after drinking black strap molasses I was able to travel to switzerland all by myself without any fear.
I started taking BSM a couple weeks ago just thinking for the health benefits. But was surprised after the first week that my evening palpitations have stopped!! After years of trying different things to help my situation,,, I am in shock!! 💗
I too found Molasses an instant treatment for my heart problem. Every night my heart has a delayed beat (confirmed with overnight monitor) but doctor gave me no treatment beyond giving up caffiene. While that helps, it doesn't totally eliminate it and I admit no caffiene is difficult for me.
After the first day of 2 Tbls Molasses, I sleep through the night with no problems. And this is such a relief as it really is extremely scarey to awaken to no heart beat, over and over and over.
