This along w/ Baking Soda and Salt helped. Here is what happened

Tuesday-Friday - Sinus infection, near the end of it on Friday, an abscess tooth popped up, pain started Friday night. Took 2 x 200mg Ibuprofen for pain before bed.

Saturday - Intense pain, gums above tooth hurt to the touch. Minor inflammation, took 2 x 200mg Iburprofen, once at noon, another at 10p. M. Swelling increased before bed.

Sunday - Abscess bubble formed above tooth, intense pain, 2 x 200mg Ibuprofen for pain, once at noon, once before bed. Inflamation increased, spread to side of mouth, under nose and slightly under eye.

Monday - Intense pain again, 2 x 200mg Ibuprofen twice at same times for pain. I read about the garlic treatment and attempted to do it. Held 1/4" piece between gum and cheek. 5 minutes of intense pain, then subsided, held for 30 minutes in total. Felt no more pain in tooth. Abscess bubble increased, and multiple ones formed. Inflammation increased in same areas.

Tuesday - No Ibuprofen today. Did the garlic again for 30 minutes on my drive to work. Again, no pain in my tooth, but pain at bubbles and felt like inflammation was getting worse. Entire left fact hurt to the touch. Attempted to pop bubbles w/ a needle but nothing came out, became scared and almost went to emergency room for penicilin. Heard about a solution to pop abscess. It was taking a cotton ball, putting equal parts of Baking Soda & Sea Salt on bubbles (not on teeth though). First application at 7 p. m. for 20 minutes. Gums had turned white, and pain had increased in area. 2nd application of same at 8 until 10:30. Gums so swollen, it hurt to shove the cotton ball inbetween my cheek and gum. Woke up at 3:30 in the morning, 3 abscess bubbles had all popped, and started draining into my mouth (gross). Instantly rinsed mouth out w/ Sea Salt and Hot Water. Drained bubbles best I could for 10 minutes. Went to sleep.

Wednesday. Woke up at 7. Both abscess bubbles were completely gone (not to mention a bitter taste of poison in my mouth) Rinsed again w/ salt water. Inflammation almost gone (from my left side being so swollen, I could see it from my eye) These two things did wonders for everything and I highly recommend it.

Not saying some should not seek medical attention (I was close to going to the emergency room) But spending $600 to be told what is wrong, as oppose to $20 to solve everything (naturally I might add, minus the Ibuprofen). This is a good solution. Please spread this to anybody suffering from an abscess tooth.

Turmeric, Clove Oil

I used multiple things to help draw the infection out. I used tea bags and hot salt water. However when bedtime came around I was ready for some pain relief. What really worked for me was Turmeric. I got the loose powder and put in some distilled water to make a paste and packed it into the cavity hole. It works but when I realized I wanted a little more relief I had the idea to make the Turmeric paste and add two drops of Eugenol (clove oil) into the paste. That really did the trick. The turmeric paste held the clove oil in place for a numbing effect while also reducing inflammation and I was able to sleep all night.

Peppermint Oil

After nearly 3-4 days of no relief from my tooth pain and swelling (I am sure I had an infection as my cheek was swollen and gums throbbing), I looked online for home remedies until my dentist appointment. I read on this site about many remedies such as apple cider vinegar in water, garlic, tea bags, etc for use with tooth pain. I tried them all and with very little relief. After reading one comment about the use of Pure Vanilla Extract (supposedly the alcohol content in it helped?) I went into my kitchen and then saw that I had Peppermint Oil. I remember reading how crushed peppermint worked for someone, so I decided to try the Peppermint Oil. The vanilla only had 35% alcohol, but the Peppermint Oil had 89%. I dabbed some on with my finger and I was amazed. I was finally able to sleep pain free. The throbbing stopped. And as a bonus I had fresh breath (minus the garlic from trying previously during the first day). I continued the use of Peppermint Oil whenever I felt pain, and it seemed to last for a good while. Just turn the bottle upside down with your fingertip on it, just to get a little on there, then dab your gum around your pain. It works wonders! I'm surprised I've seen no mention of it.

Magnesium

For Gum Disease = 1x Multivitamin each day

Tooth Abscess = 1/2 tsp crushed Magnesium Chloride in a Glass of Water 2-3 times a day

With both of these remedies you will notice results within a few hours. Pain, tenderness and swelling will gradually reduce until it is complete gone in a 2-3 days. If you have some Magnesium Chloride just before bed, you should notice your abscess has greatly improved by the morning (instead of worse as usually happens). But as the day progresses you will notice it start to become tender again. I believe the reason this happens is because your magnesium levels are still very low and you need to take some more in the morning, and again at lunch time if you feel it necessary, to get your levels up to a satisfactory level.

I am convinced by my own experimentation that both of these conditions are the result of a nutritional deficiency. One being Magnesium deficiency and the other being a deficiency of some or several nutrients in a Multivitamin. I'm yet to nail down exactly which nutrient/s cause gum disease but I know that it's not Vitamin C (well not solely) because I have tried High dose Vitamin C and it didn't work.

My gum disease was confirmed by an xray when I went to the dentist with a suspected tooth abscess. The infection was between the roots in the gum and had not yet reached the tooth. When I asked my dentist how one gets gum disease he said that it can occur when you are run down and your immunity is low; maybe after a hard weekend (wink, wink). As soon as he said low immunity a light bulb when off in my head, 'DEFICIENCY!!! ' My dentist prescribed antibiotics, but I went home and started taking a multivitamin each day. And sure enough it got better! Due to being inconsitent with most things in life, my gum disease has often returned in the past year and I have successfully treated it each time with a Multivitamin a day.

My tooth abscess on the opposite side of my mouth, was not confirmed by xray but the reason I am certain it was an abscess is because the Multivitamin didn't work at all and the tooth had partially broken away. After much research and experimentation I healed the abscess and gum with Magnesium Chloride. I am now seeking to try and remineralize my broken tooth (something I've heard many rumours about) by taking the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K as per Weston A. Prices claims. At the moment I'm taking Cod Liver Oil for A & D, a separate vitamin E capsule and still need to find a good source of Vitamin K. I'll keep you posted on how that goes.

Ribwort Plantain

I had a gum infection and used plantain, just chewed up a bit to get the juices out, then held the plant wad (1-2 leaves) between the cheek and gum overnight. Used it for a few nights. It drew out the infection, and was quite a relief for me. The plantain is a common "weed" you can likely find in your yard. Best to wash it off a bit first, and not source it from too close to a road.

Salt Water

I'm not sure if this will work for a cyst but it works for a tooth abcess. Rinse your mouth with very salty warm water. With each mouthful, swosh it around for as long as you can stand it. Spit and repeat. I've had a broken tooth with a big hole in it for 3 yrs and will get it taken care of eventually but for now, anytime I get pain and it swells up I rinse with salt water. The salt seems to draw out whatever is in there which will ease the pressure and the pain.

Last night, I couldn't sleep due to an adverse reaction to a root canal I had already been to the dentist 4 times for the same tooth. There was an infection in the root. When he opened up my tooth to perform the root canal the infection spread up through my gums into my cheek right near my eye. The pain was unbearable and the swelling continued to get worse and worse. I could press on my sinuses and feel it in my teeth.

The dentist prescribed me Clindamycin and Methylprednisone (Medrol). I also came down with a UTI (which makes me think that my body is obviously not balanced creating a breeding ground for bacteria). For that I'm taking Ciproflaxcin.

Last night, I used my knowledge of spices and vegetables that had antiseptic qualities and made an extremely concentrated soup of turmeric, curry, freshly cut garlic, onions, potatoes, carrots, and celery. I slow cooked with a lid on to make sure the vegetables soaked up the cartenoids and other benefits from the soup. I would then add more turmeric before eating.

I then rinsed my mouth out with a turmeric/sea salt room temperature mix. Swishing it through my teeth until the concoction became cold.

Following this I opened an activated Charcoal capsule added a tiny bit of water to some gauze and placed it in between my cheek and my teeth. I held that there for about a half and hour.

I then rinsed once more with the turmeric solution to dispell the excess charcoal.

Following this I cut a clove of garlic, slowly biting into it so that the antiseptic qualities from the juice would sanitize the wound around me teeth. I did this for about a half an hour to an hour holding the tiny pieces against my gums. Yes, it burns but the burning creates an almost soothing effect after a period of time.

After the garlic, I then rinsed my mouth out with water and then decided to try oil pulling with coconut oil. I heated up the coconut oil so that it would melt and added a few drops of oil of oregano and swished it through my teeth for a few minutes at first. The texture was horrible but I could tell a difference. I tried it a second time for longer.

This morning I woke up, hoping it would be completely gone. The pain has considerably lessened. There is still some swelling but not close to how it was yesterday. I also took minerals, oils, greens, and probiotics. I will try and update this as time progresses but I can see that I've already been through the worst of it.

Cell Salts No 9

I have used cell salt no. 9 Mag Phos to relieve my mum's and my brother's toothache a few times. I crushed the tablet in some water and asked them to drink and hold it in the area of their tooth pain. Swallow it after a few minutes. The tooth pain subsided within minutes, sometimes as fast as when holding the solution in their month.

Once my brother had an excruciating tooth pain which shoot up to his head. He said that your tears will just rolled down automatically from the intensity of the pain. I dropped a few drops of flower essence into his decayed wisdom teeth and set an intention for the flower essence to heal him in his highest good and the severe pain also subsided within minutes. The flower essence I used is made from the painkiller plant.

Lastly, there was another time where I applied Aura Soma Physical Rescue oil to his cheek where his tooth pain was located. I poured some oil onto my palm and just rubbed onto his cheeks. Then, I placed my palms on his cheeks and send healing prayers to his decayed tooth. And his pain also subsided within minutes. Intention and Faith seems to be very important. Combined with the appropriate "tool", it can work miracles! Hope my above experiences can help others.

Hydrogen Peroxide, Glue

Hydrogen Peroxide, Baking Soda

I suffer from horrible absesses. Pain almost as bad as giving birth. I had a molar pulled 2 years ago due to one that I had left untreated.

I also gave up on comercial toothpaste. I started using ONLY baking soda to brush all my teeth. I was advised by my last periodontist to brush UP and DOWN, not side to side. Side to side brushing causes gum irritation and eventually will cause receeding. Mine have. Start at the gums and brush down ( for your bottom teeth you'll actually be brushing UP :)

I will actually wet my brush with HYDROGEN PEROXIDE, then dip into the BSoda. Now I will begin the brushing. I do this several times a day, even in the car while driving.

In conjuntction, I use those little plastic flossers found at the dollar store, as much as possible thru-out the day, in the car, at work, in front of the computer, on the phone, etc. You can HP rinse any time of the day as well. A quick swish and your done.

I have not had an absess (infection) in over 10 years since the first one. Once you get an absess, or even something as common as a toothache, your tooth may be damaged and should NEVER be ignored. Getting rid of the pain is a temporary fix. The problem is still there, and by ignoring it, you are putting yourself at risk of serious infections going in the bloodstream, and/or brain. I read of a man who died from a tooth absess finding its way into the brain. After I heard that, I stopped ignoring all tooth pain.

The general health of your entire body is connected to oral hygiene.

Bypass the Colgate. Try the BS/HP brush and wash instead... You won't regret it, you'll save alot of money, your teeth will be whiter and your overall health will be better. TRUST ME, an experienced absessor!

Grapefruit Seed Extract

I have found that grapefruit seed extract kills the infection and takes away pain. After trying many home remedies including cloves and vanilla extract (which helped quickly, but didn't last), I decided to try grapefruit seed extract. I put three drops in about 1/3 cup warm water and swished for about a minute. The pain usually goes away quickly. After a few days of swishing a few times a day, the pain was gone and didn't come back for over a month. Now, I use GSE anytime I have a toothache, and it's gone within a day. I'm trying to avoid a root canal. I also need to change my bad sugar habit and eat healthier to really heal the problem.

Garlic and Turmeric

I have a tooth that has been on the edge, since I lost part of the filling. It started throbbing and kept me awake the first night. That's when I got out my arsenal! I immediately started with tumeric tea (Tumeric - as much as you can stand, 1/3rd Almond Milk or Almond Oil, some vanilla flavoring for taste and the balance with hot water). I made 6 cups during the day and as I went about my day, I just swished the tea around on the upper side where my tooth hurt.

Late in the afternoon, I peeled about 6 garlic bulbs (not kidding) and sauted them in olive oil (about 25 pieces). I ate every one (its a good thing I like garlic! ) By late evening, the horrible swelling had gone down and I had this "nub" of swelling between my jaw and cheek. The throbbing had completely gone away by this time. All of a sudden, the "nub" burst and now I am back on the mend! I really love Tumeric Tea and Garlic!

Oil of Oregano

So my poor husband has been suffering for several months with 3 teeth that needed root canals. Our insurance wasn't due to renew for some time, so I came onto this site and found some home remedies. He took Hydrogen Peroxide internally -- I diluted drops in water for him. He started with 2 drops and went up to 18 then worked back down. We stopped at 18 because he started tasting it then. He rinsed his mouth with a glycerin mouthwash (a popular natural brand has it for its base. ) He applied clove oil to the sore places and put it on his floss and flossed with it. All of these things kept everything stable while we were waiting for the insurance to kick in.

However, in the past two days, his pain has become unbearable. He was moaning and crying out... Writhing in pain! He's tried all the OTC pain medications at their presciption dosage and even a powerful pain medication he got at the dentist yesterday. Nothing helped. He did not sleep at all last night.

I came to check on him at 5 am (he was in the living room. ) He was distraught from the pain. I got on this site and another one and found suggestions for tea bags and oil of oregano. I reasoned that I could put the oil of oregano onto a wet green tea bag and get "more bang for my buck" so to speak.

He put it onto the sore area, and within a few seconds was calmer. He spat out the excess fluid as it accumulated for a few minutes -- perhaps 10 minutes? He then took the bag out and slept solidly for 7 hours!

He just ate something a few minutes ago and was rubbing at the sore area. I fixed him another tea bag with 6 drops of oil of oregano on it. Within a few minutes, he was falling asleep again.

Highly recommended!

Incedently, he did see the dentist yesterday and is scheduled to have these teeth removed next week. This will get us through though!

Grapefruit Seed Extract

WARNING!

I wish somebody had mentioned in the tooth abscess thread that grapefruit seed extract should not be used full strength in the mouth. It was one of the few items mentioned in the thread that I had in the house when at 3:00am this morning I read four pages of the thread and decided to try it as part of a poultice in a bit of gauze, which I left in my mouth until the pain from it seemed so much worse than the abscess I was trying to relieve that I got up and took it out (about three hours). I've been sick and have missed a lot of sleep over the last five months... At 3am I'm not too cogent. I didn't read the bottle. Now I've got second-degree burns in the entire left side of my mouth.. Gums and cheek. It's worse than the tooth abscess, will last longer (with tissue sloughing and probable infection), and is likely to leave significant scars. Now there's no chance that I can avoid the antibiotics. I really could have used just a tiny warning.

About grapefruit seed extract, I will definitely agree that it's a potent natural anti biotic and have used it myself for various ailments. However, everything I've read points to the fact that it does no harm to the healthy flora found in our bodies. I do agree that a dose of probiotics is always good as well! :)

Grapefruit Seed Extract
Posted by Bells (Asheville, Nc) on 10/03/2010

Grapefruit seed extract is a natural antibiotic, so it is great for external and internal use for ANY KIND OF INFECTION. But just as with perscription antibiotics, it will kill all bacteria in a human, including the probiotics in your gut which help us all stay healthy. GSE is comparable to penicillin. So if any of you in suffering take this wonderful supplement, make sure to take high quality probiotics(perferaably enteric coated) for at least 2 months.

Oil Pulling, Garlic

Found this site a few weeks ago during a nasty abcess, or infection I had with a tooth that had already had root canal therapy and a crown. I had swelling in my cheek, eye, as well as a horrible headache on the left side of my head. I thought I was going to die. My endondist was booked, and could not see me for 2 weeks My MD Dr. Prescribed antibiotics, but they were working very slowly. I started several of the home remedies on here, but the two that I could see visible results working after a few days, were the oil pulling with sunflower oil ( 1 to 3 times a day), and the fresh garlic on my gum. I tried rinsing with hydrogen peroxide, and black tea bags on my gum, but found that they both pushed the infection further up into my eye. The oil pulling and fresh garlic actually brought the swelling down. Saw my endodotist today, after 2 weeks of these remedies, and x-rays are clear. He can't explain it. He said keep my fingers crossed that this was an isolated incident that healed itself. I will continue the oil pulling with Sunflower oil it is amazing. I feel that I have been healed by these two home remedies.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

To those suffering tooth abscesses, I recommend Grapefruit Seed Extract. Put about ten drops in half glass of water, stir thoroughly and swish around the mouth before swallowing. Do this a couple of times before sleep and next morning - pain gone! This stuff is great as it works for sore throats, incipient colds, upset stomach and fungal infections. You can soak your athlete's feet in it, it's safe for children, takes care of diarrhea. You can dilute and use as a topical antiseptic for open wounds and I dab it neat on insect bites and a precautionary dose each morning will protect from the trots if you are vacationing somewhere the water is dubious. It is a natural anti-biotic and anti-viral and, unlike amoxycillin etc, will not kill off the friendly gut bacteria and expose you to fungal infections. In other words, it's really effective and won't hurt you and because it is good for so many things you shouldn't leave home without it. Tastes bitter of course but you can put in orange juice to mask the flavour if you are a cissie. I've used this for ten years, sung its praises to all and sundry who usually ignore me but the abcess sufferers to whom I have given some are now TRUE BELIEVERS. Nickie
