I have a friend with mild intellectual disability who was diagnosed with high BP so I enquired of my Chinese MD what they prescribe for high BP in China. She said they always prescribe Hawthorn, but she is not allowed to prescribe that in Australia so I purchased capsules for him at the health food store. Don't remember dosage etc. They brought him into a normal zone after a few weeks of daily dosing.
I can recommend Hawthorn drops as a great help with high blood pressure. I tried beetroot, which also worked, but could not take the taste for long, whereas these Hawthorn drops are virtually tasteless. It has brought my high BP down successfully, but I need to take it every day, once or twice a day.
I've been using hawthorn supreme for high blood pressure. I take two caps and bite them then let the hawthorn liquid dissolve under my tongue. About ten minutes after I check my blood pressure with a home digital monitor. It always goes down. Mostly the top number. If still too high, I take two more the same way. It's worked so far. Both numbers go down about 10 if I take 4 caps. I've stopped my bp medicine by tapering. I'm off it now. Only use the hawthorn.
You should do this with a blood pressure monitor and take notes. Did you eat? After exercise? After the Hawthorn extract or the capsules like I used them. By keeping this journal I can see what happens to make it rise. For me, the Methylene Blue made it rise quite a bit. Smaller dose shows it doesn't rise as much. I can take the hawthorn to balance it. In the process of trying lower doses I'm checking my pressure so its stable. You should check with all your medication and keep a BP journal. Its so important to have a journal and take it all day. Its a hassle but once you figure it out, its worth it.
As an herbalist I have recommended Hawthorn Blend with positive results to 8 different people. All 8 had a drop in their blood pressure after using a tincture (30 drops AM, and PM) for about 2 weeks. I would recommend anybody with blood pressure issues to research this herb. It also corrects low blood pressure.
The only (couple of times) that happened to me, was when I had been for an evening meal at a Vietnamese restaurant and I could only put it down to excessive MSG as a causal factor.
Are you able to make a similar association I wonder?
Heart Medication Side Effects
Hello, my mother in law ( 80) was recently in the ER twice for low sodium issues. The 2nd time a nurse nearly killed her when they switched her heart pressure medication in the afternoon and then the nurse gave her a sleeping pill that night without checking with her daughter, who had just gone home. Her blood pressure dropped so low she ended up in the ICU for 5 days. She is now back at home, but extremely fatigued and experiencing dry mouth. Her meds are:
For High BP: Norvasc (new)
For High BP: Lisinopril (new)
For Thyroid: Lovastatin (taken this for years)
For High Cholesterol - Ledothyroxin (taken this for years)
Does anyone have any supplement recommendations to help with the medication side effects? Do you think the fatigue is related to her blood pressure dropping so low after the sleeping pill fiasco? She cannot go off the meds for various reasons, so supplements to replace the nutrients the meds are zapping her system is the current goal.
Many many thanks in advance to anyone who can advise.
@Belinda: About 3 yrs ago, I suddenly developed all the conditions you describe. All these diseases are a result of the western diet. That is, the body cannot properly digest, metabolize, and eliminate the foods & liquids presented it, resulting in the retention of fats & water.
To help the body perform these vital functions, begin taking, in small amounts, a daily women's multivitamin & mineral supplement w/ whole foods and enzymes. Get the most complete women's multi on the shelf at local health food store. Also, on the get list is Kelp, Coconut Oil, Apple Cider Veniger (ACV).
Read all labels for recommended dosage and start well below that dose as the need for pharmaceutical medication will begin to decline and will slowly reduce the mg's of meds. This process of increasing the nutrients and decreasing the meds could take a yr or more.
* ... just remembered that I forgot to add either Himalayan Pink Salt or Iodized Sea Salt to your grocery list. These are natural or non-processed salts that contain much needed minerals for the body.
(New York, Ny)
@B: Very glad to help, and start w/ small pinches and go slow w/ the natural salt also. The multi & Kelp also have minerals.
Another item which might help tremendously is Bee Pollen. I was bed-ridden for over a yr once and Kelp & Bee Pollen very much helped me out of the bed and using a wheelchair and soon a walker. Bee Pollen is the most nutritious dense food on the planet. First timers must always start w/ only a few grains for a few days then up to a spoon daily and 1 spoon 2x daily.

High Blood Pressure Diet
I love this site!
I have blood pressure issues. I've been reading about natural cures and about all the food to stay away from. It would be much easier for me to know what foods I can eat. I love to cook and I love to eat so it is very hard for me to change my very bad habits. I need some good suggestions on healthy meal ideas. Can anyone offer some input?
Bonbon Please let me know if you have any more questions regarding this reply I sent you. And please let me know your progress after a few weeks. I swear by olive leaf extract.Google it. :-)
Olive leaf extract works great for reducing blood pressure. Take it as instructed and after about three weeks you will see a big difference. Two people on medication are now medication free. Also, hawthorn berry helps stabilize it once its dropped. You can also take garlic, which is excellent for blood pressure.T ake the olive leaf and hawthorn berry in liquid extract form. Your body ingests more through liquids than through pills. I take all of my vitamins in liquid extract form. Also, niacin is great for breaking up plaque in the arteries. You will get itchy and turn red for about twenty minutes or so after taking niacin, but that just means its opening up the capillaries and your blood is circulationg. That feeling will go away. It doesnt last too long. I hope this helps.
High Blood Pressure/Adrenal Connection
i am a new member of this great website. having had problems over the years with my high bp...my doctors have finally come to the conclusion that the cause is my adrenal gland. no medication would work or had very bad side effects. with the bp rising to almost 190/144..and even more if a bad day, i had several tests done - which showed that my adrenal gland produces too much of aldesterone. after a final test to see which adrenal gland is playing up - which i can tell you was painful and very long...yippi...we found it was the left one...or was it...?
of course, the docs are not determined to remove the adrenal gland to bring my bp back to normal, or so they say. however, i am not convinced that this stressful test is reliable and what are problems coming after?
i am very curious to hear about anyone's experiences with alternative remedies to this problem - i know, i have to loose a bit of weight and i am quite busy in my job. i do however do a daily walk with our dog and have recently started with a shiatsu massage.. but i would be so so so so grateful for your help and feedback because i do worry about it all and want to find a solution and get healthy.
thanks so much

In response to Susan: I have a similar situation. A few years ago I was a normal weight, maybe slightly underweight due to a slightly overactive thyroid. Overall, I was healthy and I have always had LOW blood pressure. Usually averaged about 150/50. Over the last several months my health has declined rapidly. I have gained about 60 pounds, I have rashes around my eyes and mouth, my hair is falling out, and my memory is failing. There are many other things but those are among the most troubling. I had an electrolyte panel done and my potassium, sodium, and bun levels were all low. I requested a test for ADH but, for some reason, it was not done. When I asked my doctor about it, he told me it was done and it was normal; however, I had acquired a copy of the results without his knowledge and I knew that was a false statement.
Yesterday, I went to a rheumatologist and, although she has no idea what is wrong with me, she requested more blood work. She is having my serum cortisol tested, as well as aldosterone to renin ratio. I didn't even have to ask. I do not have the results yet but I will post as soon as I find out.
What was interesting is she told me that there is a type of high blood pressure that is linked to low potassium. She has that problem herself and she takes blood pressure medication (which raises potassium) along with two potassium tablets daily. She said she's not sure if that's what is happening to me but she would look into it. I guess it's rare but I don't recall what she called it. I take potassium daily and it seems my body can't get enough. I take tablets everywhere I go so that when my muscles begin to tighten I can take one. If I don't then I start having muscle spasms and heart palpitations. I don't understand why my body is using so much potassium but I hope to find out.
I would appreciate any additional information on this topic that might help.
Hello, I had labs drawn n my potassium was low also and high b/p so I wonder what the connection is, please keep me posted anyone if you have had this experience, please post about it.

Hi Arias... Your situation would seem to indicate several deficiencies.
Regarding your heart problems, I also had leg muscle cramps, irregular heart beat and dizziness when I had systemic candida. There are two supplements that will help this condition tremendously. Magnesium and Lugol's Iodine. I used both in my own remedy for this problem. Supplementing with two to four drops of 5% Lugol's Iodine per day as well as supplementing with 250 mgs Magnesium (as Mag Chloride, Mag Citrate or Mag Gluconate) twice a day.
You are currently taking potassium, which will surely help you. Unfortunately, without taking sufficient magnesium, which both regulates the potassium as well as calcium in your cells, then the proper beneficial effects of potassium won't be fully affected or felt.
As well, without a proper magnesium balance, calcium usually builds up in excess -- causing acidity in the tissues. This causes pain and fatigue. What would also help you would be to avoid any dairy for a while -- no milk, yoghurts, ice cream, cheese etc and see if this makes a difference. I mention this because all processed food these days are all too over-fortified with calcium and lacks the presence and regulating effects of magnesium. Therefore, too much intracellular acidity, due to excess calcium, is created in our tissue cells.
Almost certainly you have a low iodine intake dietary problem since it is well known that low iodine in diet causes imbalances in lipid (fat) and glucose regulation in the body. Have a look at this link:
The Iodine/Glucose/Lipid Metabolism Connection
Many of your problems also seem to relate to low thyroid iodine. Taking Lugol's Iodine will also help your thyroid as well as your heart problems. Adrenal fatigue problems are also invariably linked and associated with thyroid problems. The Magnesium supplement works synergistically with iodine and should also greatly help any arthritic or rheumatic problems as well. See these links:

What I would also do is protect your own liver. If you do this you will also be protecting your blood and hormonal balance. The best way to do this is to take the following supplements:
Milk Thistle -- 1000 gms twice a day
Alpha Lipoic Acid -- 300 mgs twice a day
Selenium -- 200 micrograms once or twice Day
Take the above supplements with food at lunch and dinner. It is also advisable to take standard B50 complex dosages since the above combination of supplements tends to deplete vitamin B in the body.
This is a Triple Antioxidant Therapy that protects more than just the liver. Try and purchase the Methylselnocysteine form of Selenium. This form of Selenium will add a further two antioxidants to the mix -- methylation and cysteine -- adding the little-known methyl group for important methylation -- also essential for the body and particularly for the brain in terms of energy and anti-oxidant protection. The cysteine portion also is a building block in the formation of Glutathione -- another useful anti-oxidant which helps to neutralize toxins and poisons in the liver.
Selenium also functions to improve the action of other anti-oxidants like Vitamins E, C, Glutathione and CoQ10. Taking the above supplements will therefore greatly strengthen your immune system -- and will act on more than just the liver.
To get a much better idea of other problems, perhaps you should also get a hair mineral analysis done. This is fairly cheap and will tell you of any further mineral deficiencies as well as any dangerous excessive levels of fluoride or heavy metals in your body which could also be causing you problems.
I also see that you live in Michigan, up by the Great Lakes. This region is well know for having low iodine in the soil (due to glacier formation in the past leeching out useful minerals and iodine from the soil). This region is well known as being a goiter belt in the past.
The Great Lakes is also an area where a large amount of nuclear waste from the US and Canada is stored (over 31 nuclear waste sites now proliforate in this region) -- and particularly waste from Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors. There has already been an outcry over this, particularly if the fluoride finds its way into the water supplies and soils of the region. But the US Govt does nothing about it. All the more reason then to supplement with Lugol's for protection against this possible fluoride poisoning in the water supply.
I have diabetes and hypothyroidism. I started dieting in January to help control my diabetes and also because I am overweight. My thyroid issue is kinda of in control but I am having trouble with my blood pressure. The doctor wants to put me on meds but I'm really trying to find a natural remedy to avoid taking meds. Please let me know what I can do to lower it. Thanks. Lupe.

Is this safe to do while breastfeeding?
Despite trying to live a holistic organic non processed diet for the last 10 years (it's been a process), you can't always get your spouse on board OR they fall off the wagon ;-( My husband has gone back to eating a lot of fast food and junk this summer as he is travelling on the road abd gone for days at a time. He's stressed with work, 2 businesses etc. Anyhow, he knows better but... Here we are. He's gained 30 lbs and is at 233 and I finally got him to go to the ND. His blood pressure was 170/100. Highest its ever been ;-( So of course diet has to be a 180 but in the meantime the ND gave him a tincture to bring it town right away while he works on his diet. 3 days on the tincture and its 134/85 LOL If I read it correctly from the bottle its made up of crataegus monogyna 200 ml, ravwolfia serpentina 50ml (PLEASE CHECK SPELLING ON THESE IT'S HARD TO READ HIS WRITING!! )
After examining MY HUSBAND this is what he prescribed FOR HIM: he has instructed him to take 5ml daily until BP is 135/85 then every other day. (we have added in CoQ10, msm, bcomplex vitamin, ______ vitamin c, and fulvic-humic acid minerals, a good fish oil) - ALL but the Coq10 the kids and I take regularly and my husband takes sporadically 'when he remembers' but NOW he's taking them faithfully) Anyhow I will post back with updates in the weeks to come, but this is looking promising. While sometimes WE KNOW EXACTLY what we have to do and SHOULD be doing, sometimes it is not that easy and it takes something drastic to put us back on the right path ;-) This tincture is IMO "THE" reason his blood pressure has dropped drastically in 3 days. I would not recommend exploring this without the help of a practitioner but it's something you can take with you, research etc. when you go!!
Hot Cocoa: 5 cups a day will fix high blood pressure. I checked my resting pulse rate at 82-beats per minute resting last night. After drinking the hot chocolate, my pulse dropped to 62-beats per minute resting heart rate.
i just read your message, you drink five cups a day, is it 8 ounces? i take blood pressure pills, thyroid medication, fish gel tablet once a day, and flax seed, will drinking this hot cocoa every day 5 cups, please clarify this for me. i heard about the cinnamon and hot cocoa together. please respond back. cindy
Food grade Hydrogen perxoide- this sounds off the charts but I had to test a different way to take peroxide. I went to the health food store bought some empty capsules seperated and filled with 8 drops Hydrogen peroxide replaced cap and started to take the pills went from 8 drops to 15 on a empty stomach, I was prehypertensive in 150 over 85. I am 51 years old after taking for week my Blood pressure dropped been taking for several weeks now my Blood pressure is 117 to 120 over 74 this is no lie I also have arthritis no more pain this totally works for me at first I was nervous thought it would upset my stomach no problems. But it is wise to use probiotics as well :-) I appears to work on psoriasis to!
I am just wondering if you have to keep at this or does your blood pressure go to normal and stay that way?
For many years, I would wake up at night, with a rapidly beating heart, gasping for breathe, etc. I have tried many remedies and again, over the years had developed high blood pressure perhaps, as a result of poor respiration at night, kidney and gallstones. Minor surgery for an impacted kidney stone and then major infirmities probably as a result of the surgery, antibiotics, HBP meds, and infections. Found your site, and I have started using food-grade H2O2 again orally and through inhalation, also extra virgin coconut oil, iodine, and cider vinegar. Within 2 weeks, HBP gone, no liver/GB pain or distress, and a major increase in energy and a returning sense of well-being. Sleeping through the night like a baby. Please be aware that I tried EDT suppositories and ionic footbaths for relief from toxicity, with only an increase in distress. I credit my body's healing to the H202, cider vinegar, coconut oil, iodine, and coffee enemas to eliminate the toxins. I truly appreciate this website and my return to health, after all these years of less than optimal functioning. I had had a normal body temp of 96.8 for years and after initiated Lugol's iodine footpainting, within this time period as well, my normal body temp is up to 98 from below 97, which is also a really good thing. Thanks to all of you for all your suggestions, and I wish this level of body optimization for all of you who suffer needlessly. God Bless You All.
I use pharmacy strength hydrogen peroxide -- drops in glass of water twice a day (about 7 drops thus far). My moderately elevated blood pressure reduced to normal, according to my doctor's records, without use of drugs. How long should I continue to pursue this treatment? Should I continue longer or cycle on and off in some way?
I had an injury to my tongue from biting it. The dentist recommended using a product called Peroxyl, which is just a flavored 1.5% hydrogen peroxide solution. It helped the injury to heal, but as a by-product my blood pressure was lowered significantly. I did go beyond recommended usage. How much hydrogen peroxide is enough and how is dosage determined? It is easy to find food grade H2O2 at 3%.
I painted my wrists with Lugol's iodine and my blood pressure dropped almost immediately from 145/103 to 134/93. Thank you very much.
I started taking Lugol's Solution (10% Potassium Iodine and 5% Iodine) and within 4 weeks my blood sugar has gone from 7.1 to 4.9. I am not doing or taking anything else so it has to be the Lugol's. My blood pressure has also come down to the extent that I am seriously considering coming off my BP medication. It was routinely 145-155 over 90-96 and now is down to routinely 115-120 over 68-72.
