Hi! This is a great website. I just tried the ACV yesterday and noticed an increase in my energy. I'm interested in trying the BSM for constipation. I bought some molasses, but it doesn't say "black strap" on it. Does it have to be black strap molasses, or is all molasses considered black strap molasses? Thanks, and God bless.

EC: Regular molasses is the first or second boiling of cane sugar syrup, while blackstrap is the third boiling of the syrup. Iron levels are said to increase 5% in the 3rd boiling.

When I heard about molasses taking white hair off I could't believe it. But I though it was worth to try. every morning in an 8 oz glass of water I mix two table spoons of the blackstrap molasses, two table spoon of raw honey, and two table spoon of apple cider and drink it. I have to be honest the taste I don't like very much, but the energy i get from that is tremendous, and not only that but because of the apple cider keeps me away from any type of viruses including flu. This is a great thing I am so glad I learn about it because it been already 5 months since I started taking it and almost all my white hair is gone!!! I will take it for the rest of my life, thanks to my Health book I purchase!!!

Molasses (black strap) for joint and throat: arthritic joints and sore throat, plus it's a great energy producer. I would suggest an unsulfered black strap molasses.

I'm replying to the person who is 15 weeks pregnant and asking about taking blackstrap molasses. I started taking blackstrap molasses with raw apple cider vinegar (once a day in the morning) before I got pregnant and during my pregnancy everyday. And I also had large fibroids. I carried my baby full term. He is a healthy baby boy (8lbs 3oz). No complications and no pain from the fibroids. Molasses has a load of minerals and vitamins that the baby needs. This is excellent for the baby.

Anemia

WARNING!

I work as a Nurse Practitioner in a hematology clinic. Please remember that not all patients with anemia have it because of low iron stores. Too much iron can have significant medical side effects. Therefore, I would recommend having your iron blood levels checked prior to starting any replacement iron, molasses, or other herbal products.

Anemia

I have been anemic for over 10 years after my last pregnancy. My doctors (I have several within these 10 years) asked me to take OTC iron supplements once a day for life. One of them even called me to go for blood transfusion. Not good at taking direction, I only took the supplement only once in a while when I felt too tired. I also declined the advice for blood transfusion. I thought my iron supply should be enough with the food I eat. Until recently, my latest doctor suggested that may be, just may be I was anemic not because of iron but something else. She sent me for a blood work, testing both the iron level and the genetic condition called "Thalassemia". Sure enough, my anemic condition is not because of iron, but because of Thalassemia. What is more - I am now overloaded with iron 3x the max amount. Luckily I did not religiously taking the supplement, otherwise my liver, heart and spleen would be severely damaged by now. Just thought to share my experience.

Black Strap Molasses has cured my Blood Sugar Levels. I also wanted to respond to another lady in Seattle, she asked where to buy it. The two best places would be Trader Joe's, or Madison Market, just off Capital Hill.

Update: Since experimenting with other possibilities, I find that Aloe Vera works well at night, and Blackstrap Molasses in the morning. Raw Aloe works best. One or two tablespoons should be all you need. A perfect cure!

I am a sugar addict. I love anything that is sweet. I was told my a chef to utilize black molasses, and it really worked for me. It balanced my iron and allowed me not to have the crave anymore. I have also shared it with a friend and he lost five pounds.... good stuff.

Posted by Alice (Whitestone, New York/usa) on 09/05/2011

aahh.... Thank you for that. I recently read how wonderful blackstrap molasses is for you but I noticed that I started breaking out. Wasn't sure if it was or could even be the molasses but that was the only new thing I added to my diet. So I stopped for a couple of days and no breakouts. Had two teaspoons yesterday and today another breakout. I'm 51 and should have acne. So should I just keep with it? And how long should it take before the acne stops?

Joanne, you would take it with baking soda. Read up on that. When you mix them in hot water it'll foam for a bit.

The theory is that the sugar in the molasses is a bait for the baking soda to get where it's needed.

For approx 20 years I have been taking Blackstrap Molasses - 1 Tablespoon daily in warm water. Sometimes if I need more energy I will take a second Tablespoon. How did I find out about Blackstrap Molasses? I purchased a book many years ago about the positives on the product. Today I am 55 years and do not take any medications from a doctor. The great reason I loved the book was about gray hair. My hair today has very little gray hair compared to other people my age.

P. S. I do also take other natural products along with Blackstrap - so I would not state that Blackstrap is the only reason for good health.

Leg Pain, Sleep

I take BSM in organic apple cider vinegar every other day and every time I take it before breakfast, it works wonders. My leg pain, alleviates in 30 minutes, so for me it performs the function of Advil. However, when I take it before going to bed, I never wake up in between sleeps and have a good sleep.

For me the ACV is antiflammatory as it relieves me from the leg pain, though for the time being, but it works.

Becky, I never heard that BSM has anything to do with headaches. But I do know that one might get them from trying out a new remedy that one is not too sure of. I guess it's the stress of not knowing what to expect. I'm pretty sure the BSM itself is not causing headaches.

How are you consuming the molasses? I've put a tbsp in distilled water but doesn't taste the greatest.

HI U HUBERT, my ole Mississippi Grand Dad used to have a cane syrup mill which a mule was used to turn the cane squeezing system. He then used a wood burning cooker to evaporate off the water. The Black Strap came from the third cooking and had less sugar but more vitamins and a higher content of iorn than the previous two cookings. What you want is Unsulfured Black Strap Molasses.

I have tried this before, but the high iron can wreak havoc with you. In my case it caused my glucose to go out the roof for several weeks. As my Nuropath doctor tells me, iron is a two edged sword. Be- careful. =====ROBERT HENRY=========

PS.. Hope all you people are having your good luck Black eyed peas today. Looks like we are going to need it in 1212. We are having them and Collards Greens for the money. This is a Southern Tradition.

The iron didn't cause your blood glucose to go through the roof - the molasses itself did. It is sugar.

Gray Hair

Hi - just FYI, there is no way that something you consume can change the color of the hair that is already on your head (grown out from your scalp). Hair isn't "alive" in that way; it's like your fingernails. So whatever was affecting your hair color came from an outside application, such as chlorine in water.

I don't know about molasses affecting hair color over time, but I do know that there are herbs that are used in Asia that accomplish this, so I would assume that, if molasses treats an underlying imbalance or nutritional lack, it could produce the same result. It would take some time to see whether it works though.

The growth rate of head hair for most people averages about 1/4" to 1/2" a month. 1/2" a month is considered pretty fast growth, for example. Using that calculation, you'd have to consistently take the molasses and see if you started to notice a difference in hair color after about six months (since the molasses effect might not start working immediately).

i had that problem too until i used it after eating. in other words, if i took it on an empty stomach, i would get d.
but, i found a wonderful way to enjoy it if you like coffee. i put a tbls. in a cup of warm coffee, then set it aside.
later in the day i pour it over ice for ice coffee. tastes almost like one of those wonderful mocha coffees everybody likes.
well, i mean if you like coffee. hope this helps somebody.

Iit's better to take molasses without green tea since it can interfere with the absorption of minerals in molasses. Try with only warm water. You will get used to the taste.

I started taking BSM and ACV for leg/foot cramps. A friend said that years ago her father was advised to use this remedy and that it not only got rid of his cramps but turned his full head of gray hair blonde again. I've been doing it for about a month and find both to be improving. But I take a Tbs of the BSM off the spoon in the morning followed by about 1-2 tsp of ACV in a little water. Is there some more effective method I should be using?

I had tried a lot of things to beat depression, Including: St John wort and different traditional medications. Molasses worked - no side effects. It is just a healthy food to eat. I have about 1- 2 table spoons a day. TO make it easier to eat I made a made a molasses based taffy.

Dear Bette,

I have given my children blackstrap at that age. Maybe a teaspoon or so at a time.

If she will eat prunes or drink a couple of ounces of prune juice each day that may help, too.

I am a huge fan of BSM. I have used it to help alleviate symptoms from anemia and it really works. Recently, I had a weird thing happen where I was feeling slightly nauseated after consuming even small amounts of sugar. I switched from drinking my customary one cup of coffee to a cup of English tea sweetened with BSM and some half & half. The nausea disappeared and on top of that I feel like I am burning 'cleaner' energy- if you will. Maybe it's the minerals. Give it a try- it's great!
