Hi Coconut oil is a big no no if you have Thyroid problems, it will do you more harm than good :-( I have been researching about this, and Cayenne Pepper seems a good one to try :-) Take it in warm water so your body is aware of the heat factor if you have not used it before. Take half a level teaspoon AM and PM, if you get palpitations inbetween, do the same again. There is not really a set limit to how many times you take it, and it may burn initially, warm heat not tissues burn, but it passes quickly, milk or yougurt will take the burn away if you really must use some thing. Water will not, but it will go on its own, I use this myself as I suffer terrible palpitation's and chest pain's to the point it feels like a heart attack. I use fresh Cayenne Chilli Peppers, but Powdered Cayenne pepper if I run out of fresh, with the freah pods, I use a pod split length ways in half, with seed's removed as your not suppose to eat the seeds, then I put it in a cup of boiled Distilled, or bottled spring water. I let it stand for 3 to 4 minutes so it infuses and the water is not to hot to drink, then neck it back, I lurve the stuff Masochist that I am!! Hahahha! Actually, I've used it for so long now I drink it like regular Herbal Tea although it's a spice, any way, with the powder just use warm water or par boiled not boiling, stir and drink it. It is also a life saver in the event of a Heart Attack, throw a few heaped tea spoons in water, it does not have to be warm in an emergency such as this and drink, this can be used this way for any one, it also heal's heart tissue's and promotes Heart tissue growth. I would put a heaped table spoon in if I were having an attack, and tap water would have to do if there was no other available or time to mess about. It also thins your blood out better than Warfrin, so don't use it if you are on blood thinners, but, and I am not saying 'do it', but I wouldn't think twice about blood thinners and taking it in a Heart Attack situation. It will make you warm or even sweat, but not always but this is fine. As its also a natural 'Detoxer' hence the sweating. Some people report a rush of energy and a sense of well being akin to a Spritual exsperence, and others, like myself, feel very relaxed and it help's my anxiety as well. I get palpitation's regularly through out the day most day's, an the Cayenne stop&s them right away, or in a few minutes. And if I am going out any where, I make some ready and keep it in a dark glass bottle and carry it with me at all times. Coconut oil did the same thing to me as it did to you the first time I used it, an I had to go and lie own, but I reackon it's because I took a heaped table spoon first time, and my body was not use to it, so I began again with half a level tea spoon and worked my way up, but definately do NOT take it with Thyroid problem's. this site is what i've been looking for. My heart palpations/dizzyness are what I believe to be food related. MSG Monosodium Glutemate is a big culprit and i'm just finding out that there are so many many other foods that hide MSG in the ingredients like yeast extract, yeast food, yeast nutrient and so on. I have 3 pages of ingredients that contain MSG so those of you who have these terrifying episodes read the labels stay away from coffee, chocolate, cheese aspertane, sucrolose (splenda) and the list goes on. any other info is surely welcomed. Would love to hear from those that are experiencing heart palps and what their doing. thanks, barbara

I understand what you are going through. About 2 years ago doctors bullied and scared me into beta blockers for hbp and because I said I was under stress he assumed I had palpitations.. I had some nervousness but never palpitations.. so stupid me took the medication.. Now I found a doctor who told me how to wean off the medication and I am doing it slowly but I am getting palpitations from that here and there. So what I have found to work for me is acupressure .. check utube for the points to press for stopping palpitations..Also the most unbelievable thing someone told me is that sea salt in a huge glass of water stops palpitations..and it does for me.. It might take a bit but it works.. Now I cant speak for you but its worth a try.. check earthclinic on here to see how sea salt works for that..

Hi Lars, I just read your post wondering why eating an apple gave you immediate palpitations. Apples are coated with a wax that is a hidden source of MSG.

Rjsvan, thanks for that bit of info. As a rule I stay away from non fresh foods, but am a sucker for anything cheese or olive. Will definitely take more care in reading labels. I was able to obtain BSM today. Start taking it tomorrow with ACV. Will share my experience as time goes by.

Would anyone know the possibly type of Magnesium that is helping everyone, including Lisa from above. There are like 14 different kinds of mag and they all do something different lol. I THINK it might be magnesium taurate OR magnesium glycinate.

I've been having HORRIBLE heart palps for the past few months.

I thought it was caffeinated coffee so I quit cold turkey. Still got 'em.

I am on a protocol for S.A.D right now and one of the things I am taking is Glycinate but I've only been doing it for about 2 1/2 weeks. Maybe it takes time or that is the wrong mag for heart palps.

I am desperate. It gets so crazy when your heart beats like that!

I'm taking quite a few supplements for quite a few things. But, I would love some insight, maybe someone will see something that could be causing it.

  • Biotin 500mg (once a day) - 1 pills - 500mg (hair and nails)
  • Collagen (twice a day) - 4 pills (joint pain and recovery)
  • Acetyl L-Carnitine 500mg (twice a day, am, pm) - 4 pills - 2000mg (recovery, fat burning, etc)
  • Glutamine 1g (twice a day) - 2 pills - 2grams (recovery/exercise)
  • Dopa Mucana - 2 pills in the morning
  • Vimerson health - Turmeric Chondontrin 3 pills (inflammation, joint pain, recovery)
  • Zinc 15mg (once a day at night) - 1 pill - 15mg (sleep)
  • Iron (once a day in the am usually) - 1 pill 18mg
  • Vitamin e-400 (once a day usually in the am) - 2 pills 268mg each (536mg)

Forgot to add that every time I hold my smartphone in my hands I start getting palpitations. I kid you not. That is why it is always at least a foot from my body when I don't use it and I prefer to do everything else on my MAC, including talking via FaceTime, signal etc.

Hi Art! You helped me with my insomnia about a year ago lol. Thanks for your input!

Out of the ones you listed, I had been using Tyrosine, fish oil, Theanine, Mucuna and NAC only until very recently and I've had the heart palps for longer than that time. I started taking these for S.A.D. So that's probably not it.

I started to take the S.A.D stuff on or around December 3,2023.

For the Vitamin D I only stopped taking about 4 days ago.

I should mention my birthday is on March 9th and I will be 43. I was thinking maybe I COULD be in Perimenopause. I really hope that if that is the case, I am not going to have to be living with heart palps for 4 to 11 years lol.

I've hardly ever had these in my life and tend to be pretty healthy despite a few issues like anxiety and S.A.D so feeling out of sorts is pretty uncomfortable.

Heart palps started 2 months before the S.A.D supplements were started.

Vitamin D3! Taking large doses of vitamin D can induce severe depletion of Mg, and lack of Mg can cause palpitations.

Hi Art!

We ended on Magnesium Oil Spray, Melatonin 5mg, Zinc 15mg and if I know I am going to have a harder time, I add a little chamomile lol. Sleep like a baby. I stopped the melatonin because it was making me groggy so I only do that once in a blue moon! (The article was also in conjunction with Nocturia) but jeez now you say there is a connection between melly and possibly helping with heart palpitation or arrythmia?

Hm interesting. Might have to start taking melatonin again lol. I know they mention a few different doses in that article about melatonin and arrythmia, is there a specific dosage you would suggest I try? 5mg makes me a zombie in the morning.

So far the Flax Seed ground up with Coconut milk and BSM seems to be working, though I can still feel a little "fluttering" in my chest and a little shortness of breath.

But, then these heart palps have been going on for a long while so maybe whatever I depleted (magnesium?!?) just needs time to regulate again. I'll keep doing that along with the 420mg of magnesium citrate.

With all due respect (I know you are trying to help), heart palps are nothing to fool around with and not all thyroid problems are because of a fungal infection. I also tried coconut oil (I have hyperthyroid) and had SEVERE heart palps and profuse sweating. It was absolutely horrible and I fear for anyone on this board who reads your comment and thinks they should continue and push through because it's a detox reaction.

Do NOT continue with anything that gives you heart palpitations (or stops your breathing! ) No matter what!

Back in late December I started to take what are called "nootropics" or amino acid and other pills to increase mental performance, focus and clarity. I have ADD and wanted to try something more natural vs taking ADD medication, this turned out to be a very bad idea. I was taking a combination of drugs for 2 weeks with no heart related issues however when I added what is known as Piracetam is caused very bad prolonged heart palpitations for 8 hours. I went to the emergency room and they acknowledged my blood pressure was 180 and heart rate was extremely high although didn't tell me what, they didn't do anything because they had no idea what the problem was. I ended up driving home and the attack episode went away a day later.

What did I take?
The night before I took Bacopa Gold and 500mg of L-Tryptophan
Woke up and 2 hours after doing so I had: 100mg DMAE, 500mg L-Carnitine (alcor), 1200 Omega 3, 100mg Rhodiola.

About 2-3 hours after taking that I then took 2g of Piracetam and Alpha GPC choline 600mg

About an hour later my heart started to pump extremely fast and I started to have uncontrollable muscle spasms and shaking, the kind you get when you are cold. I then started to have electric shocks in my heart.

Over that same week I went back to the emergency room another 2 times, they ran an EKG a total of 3 separate times, a complete blood analysis and didn't find any problems other then my electrolyte and vitamin d levels were a little low. The 2 times after the first incident I went to the hospital, it was 1 time because I had a caffeine drink and a 3rd time it was because I had a bowl of pasta. Subsequently for the next 2 weeks I had heart palptations/blood pressure increases randomly and after eating a wide variety of foods (too many to really pinpoint it on any specific thing). On Christmas day I went to a party and with my lack of control and lack of any symptoms at the time I decided to try some alcohol, didn't have too much but I noticed about 30-60 minutes later I had another attack which lasted for about 2 hours and it was pretty severe, obviously I haven't touched that since.

So now it is over a month since the first attack and I'm happy to say that things have gotten a little better, I can drink caffeine now with no attacks(just tried it once to see if I would get an attack, not daily) however I am still feeling irregular heartbeats on a daily basis. A week ago they did a holter test but they are still waiting for ther results back. I'm 99% confident they are going to see irregular heartbeats throughout the day. I have tried just about every natural cure and remedy listed on this website. So far one of the supplements I was actually taking before, L-Carnitine I decided to try again and that decreased the amount of attacks I have been getting but didn't stop them, taking around 1MG a day. I've also been taking hawthorne, coq10, omega3, potassium, multivitamin. To minimize any potential that these attacks are initiated from any of the supplements I take daily I have tried varying changes from not taking any supplements at all to taking some and not others, no change I made to vitamin regimen has had any noticeable effect other then the L-Carnitine. I also tried Apple Cider Vinegar, however in my case similar to magnesium(below) it actually caused heart palpitations for a few hours.

I've also tried taking Magnesium citrate which I had an attack as a result of that. At the moment of this post I am suffering from another attack because I decided to try a bath in bath salts(filled with magnesium chloride). Almost instantaneously I started to have major heart palpitations to the point where I could feel my lip moving from the blood flowing through my head. I thought this just might be my body absorbing it so I decided to sit in there for a total of 8 minutes and then got out. I measured my blood pressure and heart rate. It went up to 138/77 with HBM at 93. This is certainly within safe levels but caused one of the more severe attacks. Luckily the high heart rate only lasted for a mere 20 minutes as I measured it 10 minutes after the first test and it dropped to 117/75 with HBM at 65. Needless to say I'm not trying Magnesium again as on 2 separate incidents it caused an attack. I am confident this is not anxiety and sitting in a bathtub full of magnesium should help to prove this. I felt very relaxed but the heart palptations came on suddenly and violently. In fact the Drs prescribed me Xanax and I took one yesterday and it actually CAUSED heart palpitations, albeit was the first time it caused heart palpitations, but with taking it previously I can't honestly say it caused my heart palpitations to stop, just made me "not care" about the heart palpitations I was experiencing.

Another thing I have noticed is that some nights my heart rate and blood pressure drop significantly and I start to feel tired but oddly enough it makes me feel good. The lowest I have ever seen my blood pressure go to was 96sys, 56dia, 52 HBM. When I saw it this low I decided to get up and walk around as I know anything below 60 is potentially life threatening. Luckily the only symptoms I ever experienced with this low heart beat was tiredness.

Other times during the day I will get so tense, I will get tingling sensations throughout my body which is usually a precursor to an attack, I would say its adrenaline being released but they tested my Thyroid multiple times to ensure it wasn't hyperthyroidism. Another doctor thought it might be pheochromocytoma which was a good guess but after a blood test for it, turned out a no. Whatever is causing this started from the pills I was taking.

I've also noticed I lost weight, I used to weigh around 150 for 2 years and over the past month it has dropped to 143. Additionally in the first few days of the initial attack I started to see skin pigmentation on my hands, arm and face, little brown dots but the Drs do not think is related. I read this is a symptom of hyperthyroidism but after 2 blood tests 2 weeks apart they say my thyroid levels are fine.

Additionally, whenever I perform any kind of mild physical activity such as going up and down stairs I notice my heart rate shoots up to a comparable extent as if I just sprinted and then suddenly stopped.

Just to summarize all the symptoms: Heart palpitations, skin pigmentation, tingling sensations, high blood pressure/heart racing during severe attacks however most of the time I have heart palpitations without any increase in blood pressure or heart rate. Over the past 2-3 weeks I have not seen my blood pressure exceed 140 during the attacks and most of the time it is within what I would consider my normal range during the palpitations, extreme heart rate for mild physical activity, Heart palpitations can last anywhere from 2-48 hours (yes I had heart palpitations for days non-stop worst feeling ever).

I am a Healthy (or so the Drs say) 21 year old male. I'm starting to think it may be sinus tachycardia or something related. I possibly just created a new health problem nobody has ever heard of before or it is so uncommon the doctors can't pinpoint what the problem is. Noting that I have periods of "normalcy" I am however hopeful I did not cause any permanent damage to my heart as my blood pressure was never recorded to exceed 190sys and my heart rate never exceeded 135 at the peak of my attacks. Attacks can be mild or severe as in the case of me taking magnesium. Anybody have an idea as to why I would have heart palpitations and a racing heart beat from magnesium? Isn't magnesium supposed to calm yourself? I know its not anxiety as not even the anxiety pills help stop the heart palpitations. I have pretty much tried everything at this point and the only thing I can hope is either my body is still trying to get back to normal and I haven't discovered what is causing my body to be off balance. In this case I would hope it would just go away over time as either the attacks have started to become less severe or I just have less anxiety when I have an attack since they are becoming part of every day life. I pretty much can't go throughout the day now without having heart palpitations, even if my blood pressure and heart rate is completely normal during palptations.

At this moment I have an echocardiogram scheduled on the 19th and I am still awaiting the results of the holter test I did last week. I'll also be seeing a cardiologist next month. Unless anybody else has an idea I suppose all I can do is wait to see if things return back to normal or see if they prescribe me beta blockers to see if that stops it, but since my blood tests show everything is fine not sure they would do that. I've just basically given up at this point because I have tried every solution I can find on the internet and either it causes an attack or does absolutely nothing at all to solve it. I appreciate anybody who has taken the time to read this long post and would sincerely appreciate anybodys help or advice about this.

Please get a heavy metals test ASAP. My heart palps were coming from and continue to come from a buildup of toxic metals in my system. The magnesium chelates heavy metals and in the beginning you will experience heart palps taking it. I was off the charts with mercury, lead, arsenic and tungsten. It took me 10 years to find a doc who would do the test because despite me telling them that I felt awful they would tell me that I looked good. I had no thyroid function by the end and no sex hormones. My thyroid is coming back now after treating and going completely off gluten in all forms, soy, canola and trying to avoid gmo's.

Systemchip, I feel your pain. Until one actually suffers the spiraling hellhole of anxiety, racing heart, palpitations and the feeling of being 'shocked' constantly - with traditional MD's totally clueless and telling you that you are okay - they cannot possibly understand.

I have experienced all your symptoms and based on what you wrote - including the skin pigmentation - you almost surely have some form of adrenal fatigue/adrenal exhaustion. I was finally diagnosed with 3rd stage adrenal exhaustion by an amazing doctor, after wasting thousands on traditional MDs and even having a head endocrinologist at one of the biggest medical clinics in the country tell me that I was fine and didn't have a problem based off my extensive lab test results! It's sickening how so many in the medical field have become so utterly stupid when it comes to diagnosing people (such as not bothering to listen to the patient's symptoms, only their lab results) who are going through a form of hell most people cannot even begin to understand. Would not wish this on my worst enemy.

Mine started by taking in pure organic extra virgin coconut oil. That triggered some kind of adrenal crash that was actually years in the making - but it has led me to suffer horribly for the past 5 months and contemplate suicide when that was never anything I would have considered before. Again - if you have not experienced this kind of torture of your own body being out of control for MONTHS on end (let alone hours or days) then you cannot begin to pass judgement on those of us who seek natural cures as opposed to the idiotic allopathic medicine approach which by the way, is partly responsible for this because I was submerged in anti-depressants, anti-anxiety pills and antibiotics for most of my 36 years on this earth, and now I think they set the groundwork for what am I going through.

Anyway Systemchip, I am betting that your holter monitor will be normal and NOT show any indication of irregular heartbeat or such a low percentage your cardiologist will send you on your merry way, telling you all is well. I also bet your echocardiogram will be totally normal as well. With low blood pressure and low heart rate you most likely will not get a prescription for beta-blockers anyway, which is good. I say this because I literally JUST went through this all with my cardiologist, I was 100% sure he'd see abnormalities on my test as I could document to the second when they happened -- but nothing.

It's disturbing to read all the various self-treatments being tried for arrhythmias. No one, including the medics, are addressing what I believe is the underlying cause. The body requires certain elements in balance with one another in order to function normally. Your body cannot produce minerals if they're absent, and drugs cannot take their place. The heart requires several different minerals in correct proportions to beat regularly. Rather than start experimenting by guessing which ones are needed to balance the ratios, seek a practitioner knowledgeable about mineral balance. They will do the proper testing (usually hair analysis) to determine your specific needs and you'll find that many other health concerns disappear when the body is given what it requires to function properly. There is no "silver bullet" and what works for you may be completely wrong for someone else. So if your problem goes away after taking or limiting certain minerals, the likelihood the same advice will work for your friend/spouse/in-law/co-worker/bookie, etc. Is near zero. BTW, I'm an O.D., and the most likely professions to be of help will be naturopaths (N.D.) or chiropractors (D. C. ) in the U.S. Most "mom and pop" health food stores can direct you to people in your area who may be of help.

I was struggling with PVCs off and on for 2 years. The cardiologists said that maybe I had a little damage to my heart from a virus. One gave me anti-arhythmia medication, the other gave me beta blockers. I didn't take either, because I didn't want to be sedated. Then a friend who had, had a small heart attack told me that her natural doctor told her to go off gluten because it causes inflammation of the heart. So I went off gluten and my heart went 90% back to normal. I still don't understand why my body won't put up with gluten, but I am just happy to have relief and my life back.

I havnt had a-fib (heart palpations) for about 6 months now after being hospitalized about 8 times. I stopped taking warfarin and blood thinners without my doctors consent and started eating healthy and taking supplements. I now can eat anything since leaving out the rat poison (warfarin) Let me tell you what I eat and what supplements I take. Breakfast consists of oat bran, oatmeal, flaxseed, mixed nuts, cocoa powder, black berries, turmeric powder, cinnamon powder, mixed with milk of your choice. Supplements include coq10, magnesium, chromium picolinate, resveratrol. I don't know what cured my A-fib but I will carry on with what I'm doing. I also have arthritis and diabetes. My arthritis has disappeared I no longer take cellebrex. My sugar levels are under control. I feel so good and healthy. I also believe Apple Cider Vinegar is good for heart palpations which I was taking but stopped, will start again. I wonder if anybody out there can recognize what has cured my palpations. I do know that the turmeric and cinnamon cured my arthritis. I've given up the idea about commiting suicide. Hope this helps someone, since I know how bad a-fib can be. Life's good now.

Brian, heart palpitations are listed as a magnesium deficiency so maybe it was the magnesium you are taking. The magnesium also will help with arthritis and even blood sugar levels as well. Magnesium also is good for depression.

Hi Brian - I would guess that you have built up your health to the degree that the heart palps you were having just went away. Good on you!

If I were to guess on what was the most valuable to you for making it so I would guess it was the magnesium. Not to say it might not have been something entirely different, but I am a firm believer in Mg.

Also - I would look into taking 3mg of boron (good for bones and some arthritis) a day as well if I were you, and maybe something for added potassium. All these things along with D-3 work in unison. Google them if interested.

Glad you have found the answer to your issue, and that you feel like sticking around on this lovely planet for a while longer! ;-)

Might want to check the magnesium in those supplements, it's possible the ratio is off. Also quite possible you are deficient in magnesium and that is the reason for heart rythem problems to begin with. If the multi's are 2x calcium to magnesium they have it backwards. Tradition says 2x calcium to mag but that's wrong. Try to never have cal levels exceed mag and all will be well. Hospitals have said that most of the patients coming in the door are deficient in magnesium. Gee, could that be why there are so many heart patients? If the cal/mag ratio is off you can just buy mag by itself to make up the difference. Also it would be good to get the mag and start by taking that by itself to see if your heart balances out. You would have your answer right there. Begin with 250mg of magnesium per day and work up to 500. Good luck.

Reactions include temper tantrums, hyperactivity, aggressive behavior, uncontrollable crying and screaming, kicking, nervousness, dizziness, inability to concentrate and sit still among other findings. Physically you may get frequent headaches or migraines, upset stomach and feel ill after ingesting this additive.

Red 40 is used in many food products including kool-aid, orange and other flavored sodas, cheetos and dorito chips, strawberry pop-tarts, any candy with red coloring to it including m&m's, skittles, many chewing gums, etc. Also many children's vitamins and pain relievers/cold medicine have red 40 in the ingredients.

The bottle label or box carton should say which FD&C (food, drug, & cosmetic) FDA approved color is in there! Anyone any age can have bad effects.

The second question is "are there any minerals listed in that pill?" You could be so low on trace minerals that your body is trying to adjust when taking some. It could be that simple!

You are correct in that you could have a slow or toxic liver, and the food coloring is the final straw. It's taking days to clear something that might be done in hours normally.

You could try taking a high quality fulvic/humic mineral supplement, and see if your heart rate improves, going lower and stable.

They cost a lot more than a one-a-day, but in this case the quality (bioabsorbability) and quantity (most brands have 60 trace minerals and complexes--compare that to the maybe dozen plain jane names on a cheap multimineral tablet)

George from Denver, you're absolutely right about magnesium deficiency. I have MVP with pectum excavatum (depressed ribcage) which is a tell tale sign of Mg deficiency. I've been taking high doses of magnesium for many years. It works wonders for my breathing, sleep, and general anxiety -- but it made no improvement in these multivitamin-induced palpitations. These are strange palpitations. I felt like I was being poisoned. Thanks for the insight.

Tom from Regina, those symptoms look terrifying but I don't have those to that degree. I checked the mutivitamins' labels and they all are FD&C approved and have no Red 40 dye. I don't think my palpitations were caused by dyes. I'm unsure about trace minerals as you've mentioned. I have taken multivitamins before without any problems. Today it just hit me... the one that caused no palpitations were rapid release. The multivitamins which caused my palpitations were time release so does it mean it hangs out longer? For a sluggish liver that can't clear out more than what's put in, maybe "time release" is not a good idea. I noticed my palpitations were worst in the evening, but better in the morning. I think it's because sleeping puts my body on a fast. I forgot to mention that I've been taking birth control pills for over 10 years. I think my liver's finally caught up. Before I got tested for allergies even half of a 100 mg vitamin C tablet would make me shakey and so wired I couldn't sleep for 3 days. It turns out that most vit C is made from corn!

The lady at the health food store recommended that I try vitamin C palmitate. That was the answer to my problem.

I have to take vitamin A palmitate because I am allergic to carrots and fish oils. Many B vitamins are made by yeasts. Most grocery store vitamins will also contain wheat, soy, etc I have multiple chemical sensitivities so it is important that I read every label on every supplement I take.

I take Allergy C and Allergy Multi by Twinlab and have never had a problem taking vitamins again. I order them online for half what I would pay in a health food store. Cheap vitamins may do more to you than they do for you!

Yep the palpitations, are caused by the BVits.. The heart has a massive amount of nerve fibre in it, along with the rest of the body. You probably have twitches where you didn't have twitches before as well. It's like putting fertiliser on the garden it sort of goes off untill it finds its new balance. Old defunct nerve paths firing up again neurons going off where they havent gone off for a long while. The body only stores the B12 in the Liver.. This is distributed from there as and when required. The rest are taken as required and excreted on a daily basis. I think it might be an extra demand for potasium, so you can either ignore it, and after a couple of months it will go away... Or take a couple of bananas a day this seems to stop it, as they will give the potasium. If you stop the B vits. try MSM along with vitC that will fix a few things including the nails.

This is a great site and I tried many of your suggestions. I started to get Palps after some stents were put in and I understand that often happens. Perhaps it was from a temporary med like Toprol, as some suggest..... However, here is what I recently added that seems to have worked... Palps seem gone 98% and that is with having a martini every other night.......

Magnesium Aspartate by Solaray - 400 mg one a day; Vitamin Shoppe Ubiquinol CoQ10 100 mg one a day; 3 Tablespoons of Lemon Juice in a glass of water ( Minute Maid 7.5 oz Frozen from concentrate - find it where the frozen veges are ) with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, every morning; and Pediatric Electrolyte (must be kept in the fridge after opened, so drink slowly, not to shock the heart to create a palp) unflavored from Walgreens 2-3- oz plain, every evening before going to sleep.

That's it so far, but this, for once, these seem to have worked. As we know, it might be temporary, or even a coincidence but I hope others will say if it works for them.

I have had a heart arithmea for about five years now (runs in the family) I had it well controlled with a magnesium supplement. I started taking ACV for PMS and beautiful skin, been taking it for a week, but it gave me the worst heart palpitations yet!! I tried it by its self, and when that made me sick to my stomach I added 1/4 tsp baking soda to 2 Tbls ACV. But the heart palpitations really worry me....

Hello Jim from Tuckerman, That is a long time to put up with irregular heartbeats, but it could be something you are deficit in and/or a combination of that with eating stuff you shoudn't be. Believe it or not, I remember seeing a lady with what we call a bijeminal beat. No doctors had found a cause for it either. I suggested that she switch to whole grain products (including making her biscuits with whole wheat flour). The rest of her diet was very good with lots of home grown vegetables from her garden. Hardly any processed foods. Because she also was having trouble sleeping & admitted to some stress, a good stress tablet at meal times and bed time was also suggested. A few weeks later she dropped into the clinic just to tell me that she was feeling better than she had felt in years. Palpating her pulse while we were talking, her bijem was gone and replaced with a regular, normal pulse.

Now let's talk about those things you shouldn't be eating. Since you are sending e mails, I assume you have a computer and are on line. Do yourself a favor and type in (excitotoxins) in your search window and hit go. You will find that the two major toxins are monosodium glutamate and aspartame. Copy down all those names they hide monosodium glutamate (MSG) under and go into your kitchen and start reading labels on everything you eat or drink and you should also include any chewing gum, snuff, and chewing tobacco. You will quickly learn that almost every processed food in your kitchen contains one or both and both of them are known to cause heart palpitations, panic attacks, and other much more serious things. Don't forget to read labels on your raw meats that you bought at the supermarket, because I found two of the very popular brands of chicken and beef listed chicken broth and natural flavors or natural flavoring. Although MSG wasn't mentioned in either case, the chicken broth in one brand is loaded with MSG, and the other brand of chicken and beef also listed natural flavors or natural flavoring on the ingredients. This is also MSG. I have found a couple of brands of canned vegetables that listed from MSG, and mentioned it again in the same ingredient list under the names hydrolyzed plant protein, and natural flavoring. You are safer in the frozen food section, but stay away from the preseasoned frozen vegetables too because they are more likely to have one or both of the 2 major excitotoxins in them. You can find a few soups, salad dressings, sauces, etc. without them but it takes time, because it isn't easy to find them.

Now one other thing we need to talk about is magnesium, because this mineral has a lot to do with regulating the heart rhythm and the blood pressure. If you are still eating bleached flour products, this in one of those 52 ingredients taken out in removing the bran and bleaching process. Then they add 8 back and call it enriched! Truth is, it is depleted of 44 nurtients after this so called enrichment. Magnesium is one of those things that most of us would check out low on these days. Also magnesium is hard to replenish to the desired level without getting its laxative effect also. But since reading about transdermal replenishment to avoid the laxative side effect, thereby retaining the needed magnesium, it seems that my cup or two of epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) in a good bathtub of warm water should do a decent job of replenishing without getting diarrhea, and rather inexpensive to do when you can get a 2 lb. box of epsom salts at a few stores, like dollar tree, for $l.00. Why don't you give these suggestions a few weeks try and let us know how you're doing. LOL in this case means lots of luck to you.

I am pleased to read about the gas connection. I recently had a laparoscopic surgery, during which gas was pumped into my body. I got terrible gas pains after the surgery, but I also got heart palpitations. I had the following tests done: EKG, Xray, CAT scan, and blood tests. I was told my heart is very healthy and there are no problems. The palpitations continue. I am over 60, and I have been eating organic foods my entire life. My diet consists of seafood (caught in wild) fruit, vegetables, and grain. Except for the occasional Tylenol, I do not take medicine. I have read about the magnesium, and I know I am deficient in this. I just realized that I have not taken my regular Epsom salt bath for three months. I can only take showers because our house is under construction. I and have not taken my magnesium supplement for several months. I am going to start again.

to CH--glad you felt better with the ACV, but that bp is very dangerous!!! 210/110 is considered a hypertensive crisis and is truly a medical emergency. As an ER nurse, that is far FAR too high to see someone's pressure, especially if you're experiencing cardiac symptoms. I hope that you're being followed closely by a doctor, and that they're keeping tabs on how your BP is doing, regardless of the treatment you choose to use (pharmaceutical, natural or a combination.) Hi Jackie, Welcome to the world of reality. Your doctor doesn't tell you a lot because of the AMA which is the strongest union in the USA. When they get wind of someone recommending anything that medicine doesn't have control of, they start hollering "Quack, quack" and trying to put them out of business. Psst! Ever hear of that site called "Quack Watch"!? Not many doctors want to run that risk with all the debt from medical school hanging over their heads or even after that debt is paid. It also explains why the big pharmaceuticals, AMA, and other allies making a living in the health field are so interested in closing down the health food stores, making vitamins, minerals, herbs and supplements available by prescription only. I hope & pray that this current attempt will be such a flop that they will never try it again. But play it smart and go buy you a few good books on recognition of and uses of our local herbs that most people call weeds. That way, we might not be able to get herbs from other countrys but we can surely find enough in our own localities to still be winners healthwise.

I am cheered up by people like you and the other one I just read in EC that figured out that mixing powdered blood root (which is a very easily recognized wild flower) with DMSO for skin cancer on her own. I was just reading something about Michigan, which first started fluoridating the public water, supply is now rethinking on the wisdom of this, because of so many reports of connections to bone cancer and other unwanted problems from this toxin produced as a byproduct of producing aluminum which could only be sold for pesticide or rat poison, before somebody got the idea of forcing it on the people on the public water system. I also read where Maryville, Tn. finally got it removed from their public water supply in the past couple of years. If

I went to the ER today because for the 3rd day in a row my palpitations were occurring too often and this time around I had chest pains. The ER doc ran all kind sof tests and the old ticker is fine. He also said both potassium and magnesium were fine. He mentioned that I don't treat with anti-arrythmic drugs because they tend to do worse things since palpitations are a defense mechanism that kicks in when the electric signal isn't working right.

Hi, Debra. If you drink caffeine, you might want to come off it as soon as possible. Give it a couple of weeks before you introduce it back into your system. I get terrible heart palpitations whenever I drink coffee. Tea is okay, as long as it is diluted. Also, be careful with preservatives in food and artificial sweeteners like sucralose. These too can cause heart palps. I also read somewhere (Earth Clinic?) that corn syrup might cause irregular heart beats. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

You have to be carful before experimenting with electrolytes as a possible cause of your palpitations. The reason is that a low or high potassium level can cause palpitations and arrhythmias. A potassium overdose can kill you. Your doctor will need to check your blood levels.

Hi, really interested in your comments about a 'smoking gun'. I had a severe throat infection over Xmas ( possible glandular fever ) and never been the same since. My heart palpitations started about 3 weeks or so after the infection and have gradually worsened to the point of being hospitalised in Mar and diagnosed with Proxysmal Atrial Fibrilation. I have visited the cardiologist on several occasions and have had numerous ECG's, echocardiogram, bloods, etc all of which come back clear. I am at a loss to what to do next and it is really starting to effect my quality of life. Any guidance / help yo. Are able to give would be very much appreciated.

I think the "smoking gun " theory may be right on.. heart issues may be from infections, viruses, parasites, and vitamin defieciecies can cause heart palpitations. I had a hidden dental infection a root canal extraction site infected the jaw bone. I had cavitation surgery as you know dental infections usually go for the heart. I have seen the best way to remove the clogging is to take cayenne pepper. Please take a t-spoon of cayenne pepper & dissolve it in hot water & sip it slowly. This will be a good remedy before the paramedics arrive. I have heard, read & seen many benefits cayenne pepper has on the body.

I've had problems with extra virgin coconut oil, but it seems that all extra virgin is not the same. The brand I took goes rancid after a few weeks and ends up smelling like engine oil, so it ain't pure despite having the appearance of being genuine.

I'd advise anyone to check the brand carefully and see if it putrifies after opening before chugging tons of it.

Lugol's iodine caused my heart to palpitate (and not in a good way; the bad way). So I thought no more Lugol's. I felt bad because I read the health benefits on this site and others and I could not take even one drop. Then while researching fatty acid metabolism I found that you use a lot of vitamin B-1, B-6 and B-12. All the of these B's have heart palpitations as a sign of their deficiencies. So I took all three. Now I can take Lugol's. Yeah!

Also selenium and zinc deficiencies can cause heart palpitations. So if you can't take iodine because of the heart quivers you might have a deficiency you need to correct first.

Hi Kristy... I am confused as to why you suggest that iodine would cause racing heart and high blood pressure. You posted that you had these symptoms directly after eating a high salt meal. Was this salt refined salt? Because if it was, and it doesn't matter if it was iodized salt, then that would be enough to give racing heart as well as high blood on its own. The worst diet combination for racing heart and high blood is refined salt and glucose. Just check the reasons for high blood pressure and racing heart on EC.

Your reaction might also have been due to the fact that iodine was removing fluorine/bromine from your body. This can give some strange detox reactions.

When I had tachycardia(racing heart) there were two supplements that stopped this problem completely. One was magnesium chloride and the other was lugols iodine. Now, every day, I take about 12.5 mgs iodine. This is 100 times more than the RDA. I even experimented and increased my lugols iodine dose for two weeks to between 50 mgs and 100 mgs a day to see what would happen. No racing heart. I was taking 400 to 800 times more iodine than the RDA. If you have healthy kidneys then you should have no problems with this dose. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi -- the Nobel Prize winner and discoverer of Vitamin C -- took 1000 mgs of potassium iodide every day. That's 8000 times the current RDA for iodine. He lived to the ripe old age of 93.

Unfortunately, regarding the benefits from iodine intake, I would completely agree with you that kelp tablets are useless in ths respect. And it's not the fault of the kelp but is because of the restrictions imposed on dosage by the RDA via the FDA. If you read the dose on the kelp bottle it will probably say that each tablet contains 125 MICROgrams of iodine. As I've said before, this just might satisfy the iodine needs of a mouse but will do very little for a human who is hypothyroid.

Taking selenium, tyrosine, magnesium and large dose vitamin C(1000 - 2000 mgs/day) as well will aid and assist the conversion of iodide to iodine for storage in the thyroid gland. Vitamin C removes any of the transport and cell absorption problems associated with iodine and selenium, amongst all its other wonderful benefits, also works to convert the T4(throxine) into the more active and useful T3(triiodothyronine) thyroid hormone. These supplements should also help your hypothyroid problem.

Also, Taurine regulates heartbeat and can smooth out tachycardia. It also helps alleviate other cardiac issues such as MVP and MI. It can also protect against cardiac side effects from drugs. Here are some of my experiences with high dose magnesium acetate (metabolizes into magnesium bicarbonate in the liver). If RBC (red blood cell) magnesium is 5.3 mg/dL or better, and one takes about one level TBSP of magnesium acetate (in 1/4 glass of water), twice a day, then many people (50-60 and older) see a pretty big energy burst and increase in well being feeling. As you say, one of these mechanisms may be neutralizing lactic acid. This much oral magnesium may be over one's "diarrhea limit". Taking 1 TBSP of gelatin and/or flax seed just before seems to allow more oral ingestion before diarrhea limit. Also some just use it transdermally and still get an energy boost.

Beth, my mom has heart palpitations and hiatal hernia. I'm thinking that has something to do with the palpitations. But now I'm getting them! I used to get them as a teen and then they went away. Now I'm 43 and started getting them after my meals or in the morning. It's so exhausting and the only thing that helps is lying down. I'm wondering if I might have hiatal hernia also?

Everytime I eat something with aspartame, I start having heart arrhythmias. I am very sensitive to it. I think Splenda does similar, but perhaps not quite as bad. I have even found that aspartame (also known as)phenylalanine is found in almost all chewing gums, and many times hidden in most unlikely things. Since it has the word Phenylalanine, most don't know what that means. But is a form of aspartame. It cause heart rhythm in me, headaches in my husband, and seizures in his grandson...do I need to go on? Please use honey, molasses or even a bit of real sugar if you must sweeten. Of course, Stevia is an option if you can stand it....but it's a flavor I don't much like... Oh, I even found some pills have the aspartame Phenylalanine added as a "inactive ingredient." Come on pharmacy companies!! Just use sugar if you must put a sweetener in!!

This is by no means all that causes problems for me. For 30 years, I've been trying to find out all the triggers. The worst is stress, negative thinking, fear, fear of impending event - or life change, panic. But any adrenaline inducing food or medicine can easily cause them. Bloating, or gas is a bad trigger also. Oh, I learned to NEVER let the dentist do epinephrine on me. It's an immediate heart racing and rhythm all over the place....I must get up and pace around the room.

I've tried magnesium. But I'm not giving up on that yet. I'm just not sure I've tried the RIGHT type- or enough. I think the HARD PILL Supplements may not absorb right- and just pass through.... And there may be a "combination" I'm not finding yet.

I'm open to suggestions!! It got a lot better for awhile, but gotten worse lately- with some stress issues. The stress issues are subsiding, but left me with "sensitized heart" again. (Read Claire Weeks books) She deals with some of this stuff. How- once the problem (stress) is gone, the body still responds like it's still there for weeks and sometimes months- a vicious cycle. Until biofeedback and meditation/relaxation is done "during" attacks....

WORKED TEMPORARILY

I had a 22mm Stent put into my main artery. I had 178/110 average blood pressure for 15 years, now it's 180/85 on average , I was born with the restriction it was 6mm when that did a MRI. Problem now is I have Palpitations 24/7. It happens instead of 3 beats so one good one one is a pause next is close together. I was told I would be better then I have been ever, but am worse off.

ACV helped for a couple of days and now its back again doctors say there nothing that can be done. Oh and my aorta valve is 2 not 3 I live in fear now because the heart stops for up to 4 seconds between the palps horrible feeling.

Lyme disease can start also with heart palpitations - just know from experience unfortunately.

you have afib. Nothing play with .. it's dangerous if it goes up higher then you need to go to ER..
