Greetings to All,

Blackstrap Molasses is awesome in potassium which helps to calm heart palpitations. I use the un-sulfured blackstrap Molasses. One tablespoon is all you need. Straight from the spoon is mighty tasty, or you can mix it in water, or other food like oat-meal. The company I buy from has 320 mgs of potassium in one tablespoon of un-sulfured Blackstrap Molasses.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Posted by Sean (Seattle, Washington) on 09/02/2015

Dear Shane,

It sounds like you might be deficient in magnesium. If you are not already taking magnesium, you should immediately start taking epsom salt baths in addition to either magnesium oil or magnesium supplements. If you use the magnesium oil, slather it around your entire chest area and armpits and leave it on for 20 minutes.

Stop drinking the apple cider vinegar. I have read on here that it can cause bad heart palpitations in some people.

You might also be deficient in iodine.

Hope this helps, Sean

Oh my goodness, I have been suffering from palpitations for years! I was on propranolol 20 mg qd PRN which helped but I was sick of taking meds. I decided to look up natural remedies after I quit meds and continued in agony with palpitations. I tries BSM today and am amazed at the instant results. I couldn't be happier! Thank you so much!

I have a symptomatic Mitral Valve Prolapse with mitral regurgitation so palpitation is like a daily thing for me plus chest pains and fatigue. I learned about magnesium on the net and tried it right away and since then I no longer have palpitations and it also cured all the other MVP symptoms including insomnia. Just 400mg daily before bedtime. I've been taking it for 5 years now.

Avoid Coconut Oil

I only started with 1tsp of coconut oil and it absolutely DID cause me to have a rapid heart beat later in the evening. I tried 2 days in a row and the same thing happened. I have no heart problems and my blood pressure is 110/70 on average. I also do not have high cholesterol problems. I do, however, have hypothyroidism which is why I wanted to try the virgin coconut oil. There was no other thing I changed that would account for the heart palpitations. It was unsettling.

Having heart palpitations in the evening after using coconut oil when hypothyroidism is present may be explained as having the thyroid finally kick in and induce those rapid heartbeats. Those with thyroid problems report on curezone that use of coconut oil cleans this condition up. Try "Oil Swishing" forum as regards orally swirling coconut oil in the mouth for 20 minutes and spitting it out. This sucks lots of infection out of the sinuses and gums; cleans and whitens teeth by cutting biofilm; and can start clearing up what may be a sub-acute fungal infection of the thyroid suspected because coconut oil has a powerful anti-fungal, caprylic acid. Blessings!

Techniques to Reset the Heart Rhythm
Posted by Zeliset (Ramsey, Nj) on 02/09/2010

i have tried several remedies for heart palpitations where my heart felt like it was beating out of my chest at 2 or 3 times the normal rate (like 170 beats/min)which has happened several times in my life.

the 1st time it happened, i was at rest in a coffee shop, and i just had coffee ice cream. my heart just started beating so fast and so strong, my body shook with each beat. this was the first time it happened to me, and i didn't understand what was going on, and i just let it take it's course and somehow it stopped.

the 2nd time was years later. i had gone running in the morning, had a cup of coffee (on an empty stomach) and then ran up the stairs and my heart went crazy again. i went and lay down on the couch right away and it stopped.

the 3rd time was again another several years later, i was just sitting in my house, tired after a long hard day spent in the sun, and my heart started racing again. no caffeine involved really, although i am sure i had caffine that day. i immediately went to lay down, but this time that didn't work. it was going strong, at almost 170 beats/min and this time for a full hour, and so i went to the ER.

at the ER, the connected me to the heart monitor, which was no fun by the way, everyone got to see me without a bra! they basically had to inject something in me intravenously that basically flat-lined me to reset my heart for a second and then all was back to normal. i went to see a cardiologist after that and he said, everything was normal. he said, the nerves in my heart have a path and sometimes, the signals along the path get directed wrong, like in a circular pattern, and it makes the heart beat extremely rapidly. he said since it's only happened to me a few times over the course of 10 years, i should just keep an eye on it and live a normal life. he told me a trick though... the ER also told me the same... when you're heart is racing like that, stick your head in a bucket of cold water (not a very appealing thing to do). another remedy... take a deep breath and pinch your nose shut, keep your mouth closed tight and act as if you're trying to breath out and like you're trying to push out poop at the same time. this creates a kind of pressure in your heart/lung area and can reset your heart as well. i've done it once when it happened again, the breathing trick, not the bucket of ice trick and it worked. but i did this like as soon as i felt my heart start to skip into the rapid beating. i think if i were to wait a few more seconds it wouldn't have worked.

the last time i remember having a rapid heart rate attack was while i was driving. my heart started racing away again, seemingly out of nowhere. it was early in the morning and i was on my way to do a project and i was a little nervous about it. so what am i to do? i'm driving on a highway, so i pulled over the nearest exit and parked at a restaurant. i reclined my seat all the way back and lifted my legs way above my neck, as if i were doing a yoga position where you lie down and lift your legs above your head and let them rest behind your head on the floor. once i did that, my heart rate went back to normal.

i don't know what all this really is about, and since my doctor said my heart was normal, it seems that stress, lack of sleep, overworking your body, etc, has caused me to experience this, as well as drinking caffine in certain situations.

i also have tried prayer and meditations to relax me and it has helped as well. one interesting thing to note is that my grandmother had the same symptoms, so it could be genetic. but she was in a foreign country and had limited access to medical care and unfortunately she died of heart failure in her early 40s. she had been sick for a very long time, and i am very healthy, aside from the few rapid heart rate attacks i've had. so i hope this helps some of you. it's comforting to know though i'm not the only one out there with this problem.

EC: Fantastic info, thank you!

Dear Sir:

There is a small cavity at the end of the insertion of the thumb in hand, over the wrist. This is an acupuncture special point to calm heart palpitations and to make normal the rhythm of heart. You can pressure it with the thumb of right hand in cases of emergency, or to use a band of acuppressure.

To your best days.

I just turned 41 & have started feeling the grips of hormonal changes along with having a history of huge fibroids. I had 5 lbs of fibroids removed last yr in a robotic surgery that went terrifically & preserved my fertility :) I still want to have children & decided to take a natural, active involvement in my health. I have always worked out religiously since I was 15 so I've been in great shape & been able to tolerate the pain of those fibroids. But at age 41 I was finding that I no longer could run on the junk food that I liked to eat & was lacking energy along with not having a normal cycle. I wanted so much to have a normal cycle without the complications of a birth control pill. ACV gave me that :) But I was also dealing with more heart palpitations that I just couldn't control with my diet & vitamin taking. Yesterday, it was really getting in my way of life so I ran out & got the molasses. And I'm so happy to report that it made those nasty heart palpitations go away, gave me energy to go play tennis that evening ( in fact, I was burning the court with my energetic plays) & is helping my chronic constipation. I've gone to the bathroom 3 times since last evening to this morning and that's simply wonderful!!! I urge everyone to try ACV & molasses ~ they are TERRIFIC!!!!

I apologize if this is a bit long. I would like to share with everyone who has or currently is experiencing (HP) and the alternative process that I undertook. It was December 8, 2008 when I first experienced HP. It felt as though my heart was going to go through my chest. I thought I was having a heart attack, but without the chest pain or numbness of my extremities. Thank God for that. It freaked me out so bad that I had my wife rush me to the ER. At the ER, they hooked me up to an EKG machine, then took X-Ray, and admitted for an overnight observation. In the morning, I underwent a treadmill stress test. All results were normal. So, I was prescribed Atenolol and Fleicanide. I went to ER more than 13 times from the plethora of side effects from these drugs. I experienced very low BP, blurred visions, internal burning and pain in my gut, which then radiated to my lower back and chest, and I was diagnosed with Barret's esophagus, which is a precursor to cancer. I believe the culprit was the Fleicanide. To combat the very low BP, my cardiologist replaced Atenolol with Deltiazim--that cause severe chest burning. It got so bad that I could hardly eat anything and I was burping and belching all day long. I had to be put on Xanax for anxiety and Valium for the pain. So what did I do?

Most of you have indicated that modern medicine doesn't help. I totally agree. In fact, it only makes thing worse with so many side effects and little benefit, IF any, which was my case. I even under went catheter ablation and thankfully, my cardiologist could not chemically induce the palpitation. So he couldn't burn and scare my heart. I understand that this process makes things worse. A friend of mine took me to her Naturopath doctor. He tested my lungs, heart, stomach and liver and wrote me a prescription to have my blood tested. There were 10 tests that he was looking for. I got the results and my regular doctor said everything was normal. I took a copy of that test results and gave it to my Naturopath. He highlighted 5 things that he found abnormal even though my regular doctor had indicated that they were normal. He immediately put me on 2 weeks nutritional program strictly of organic vegetables; no meats, no sugars, no bread of any sorts, and 8 sessions of colonic hydrotherapy to help speed up the detoxification process. Once the two weeks was completed he re-adjusted my nutritional program for another 4 weeks. He also put me on herbal and botanical supplements. I was on Devacor, Neprinol, Charcoal capsules, and a mixture that consisted of 15 different herbs, roots, flowers, etc. , all precisely weighed and mixed. I have also added OMEGA-3 Fish-oil, COQ10, pre and probiotics. I continue to drink ginger tea made from fresh root and in the process of being part-vegan, I have lost 35 pounds. I say part-vegan because I eat fish and turkey. If I do eat chicken, it must be cage free or organic. Throughout my HP ordeal, I have learned so much about alternative health style. Today, I am very healthy. I still get HP, but once in a blue moon, and briefly, as compared to what I experienced in the past. I continue to eat healthy and learn to appreciate vegetables like it was going out of style. Too much to write, but if anyone wants more information , you may contact me at my email address with the title "Heart Palpitation. " Thank you for reading.

Cold Shower Therapy

I woke up early this morning and went right into one of the worst panic attacks of my life. Nausea, dizziness, heart rate going at about twice what it normally does... I found this site after looking for quick ways to lower my hart rate because I was having trouble breathing. I decided to give the cold shower treatment a try and, while I regretted it for the first five minutes or so, I am now feeling totally back to normal. I'll be sure to use this method in the future as it works so much faster than any medication I have tried.

After 1 hr my heart rate goes down & BP. Because I use inhaler it's like a side effects of increased heart rate. I read it here also so I usually try warm water with a tablespoon of black strap molasses. I take this at night time and I sleep good with it. I take my regular heart medicine. I pray also and take communion daily. 😊

Cayenne!! This morning, my heart 'went out' at 6:26 am. I hesitated taking cayenne as have not done so before. Tuned in to this site, for courage and for reassurance. At 7:24, took 1/4 t of cayenne in one cup of warm water. Result: heartbeat/arrhythmia became more obvious, almost stronger. I kept reading, praying. Then, at 7:50, took another of the same dose. Again, more obvious heartbeat. I kept reading, searching the web. Suddenly, at 8:26, I realized that my heart was 'back in'. You all know the elation I felt, the tremendous relief.

I thank God for this site. I thank God for all of you who have shared your trauma and experiences with this terrible scourge. God bless you. Thank you, from the bottom of my normal, normal heart!! Lucinda

It could be anything not just magnesium deficiency. What else you're taking in terms of prescription medication and supplements? See if it could possibly cause palpitations. If nothing, I'd start with an appointment with an acupuncturist and a homeopath. Some acupuncturists are trained in homeopathy as well. Trust me, I have POTS for 12 years and end up in a hospital at least twice a year with all kinds of heart “ acrobatics”. They just observe me. So if you have tried magnesium and other remedies and it's not helping and your electrolytes, glucose are normal time to see alternative modalities professionals. Also, try, if you can find these 2 homeopathic remedies. I could only find Cactus Grandiflorus in a tincture form, which I'm going to try, but perhaps homeopaths do have it or know where to find it.

Naja Tripudians

  • Common Name: Venom of the cobra

  • Excessive fear of death with anxiety.
  • Along with chest pain and heart-related symptoms, there is pain in forehead and temples.
  • Rapid heartbeats.
  • Pain as if some stitches have been made in the chest region.
  • Difficulty in breathing.
  • Fear of being alone is constant. Fear of rain is also marked.
  • The person feels better in open air.

Cactus Grandiflorus

  • Breathlessness along with a constant feeling of weight on chest.
  • Feeling of constriction in chest which makes breathing difficult.

Hi Kristi,

Thank you for the reminder, I remember it now and your glowing report! I'm glad you found your answer for insomnia because many people never do.

I just realized, looking at your list of supplements that you don't have potassium on there. I was too busy looking at your list in terms of which supplements had the potential to cause palpitations, so I wasn't really looking at it in terms of what might be missing that could help alleviate palpitations.

The hard part about supplementing potassium is that it is only available in 99 mg capsules or tablets whereas 1600 - 2000 mg/day is thought to be adequate, but I doubt that that is an optimal dose for adults who may be hypokalemic and some people go substantially higher, but you can see that if you are low, you're going to have to swallow a bunch of those 99 mg pills everyday. There isn't an established RDA for potassium and that seems to add to the problem. The following Healthline article says that getting 3500 mg to 4700 mg/day of potassium from various foods is possible and healthful :

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/how-much-potassium-per-day

Here is a relevant article quote :

' Potassium is an essential mineral for health. Getting between 3, 500 milligrams and 4, 700 milligrams a day from tomatoes, spinach, sweet potatoes, and other fruits and vegetables may lower your risk of kidney stones, stroke, and high blood pressure. '

Here is an article discussing the relationship of potassium and palpitations :

https://ufhealth.org/conditions-and-treatments/low-blood-potassium#:~:text=Symptoms, skipped heart beats or palpitations

Interestingly, the following article suggests that low potassium (hypokalemia) can cause the following symptoms :

' Hypokalemia may mimic neurovegetative symptoms, such as weakness, lethargy, apathy, fatigue, and depressed mood (2). Additionally, hypokalemia can mimic anxiety reactions, such as headache, irritability, nervousness, paresthesias, visual disturbances, and muscle discomfort (3). '

These symptoms seem similar to some SAD symptoms.

Here is a link to that article :

https://psychiatryonline.org/doi/10.1176/appi.ajp-rj.2016.111103#:~:text=Hypokalemia may mimic neurovegetative symptoms, and muscle discomfort (3).

Further, blackstrap molasses contains a significant amount of potassium. You didn't say how much you are taking so I don't know exactly how much potassium the BSM is delivering, but it has fairly high content as foods go.

Have you had your potassium level checked recently??? If not, perhaps you might consider it.

One way that people avoid having to take a bunch of potassium pills is by buying potassium in bulk powder and then mixing their dose of potassium powder in orange juice and drinking it. If you try and reach those dosing levels with pills, that's 35 to 47 pills a day! Most people are not getting anywhere near these levels everyday.

There are quite a few things that can cause low potassium.

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress!

Hi Shante from Jackson MS,

if you have not already, replace all your drinks with water, for about a week and see the difference. instead of coffee or tea have a hot cup of water. Water. water, water. When someone ask what you want to drink say "Water please". No caffeine at all. it made a big difference for me after only two days. just water and food and that little change can make a big difference.

You may get a withdrawal headache, but each day it should be lighter.
