Since you are considering using melatonin, the following meta analysis should interest you regarding triglycerides :
Here is a relevant quote :
' A total of 8 RCTs were eligible. Meta-analysis suggested a significant association between melatonin supplementation and a reduction in triglycerides (WMD: −31.54 mg/dL, 95% CI: −50.71, −12.38, p = 0.001), and total cholesterol levels (WMD: −18.48 mg/dL, 95% CI: −35.33, −1.63, p = 0.032), while no significant effect on LDL-C (WMD: −2.37 mg/dL, 95% CI: −11.61, −6.86, p = 0.615) and HDL-C (WMD: 1.28 mg/dL, 95% CI: −0.66, 3.23, p = 0.197) was found. In sub-group analysis, a significant decrease in triglycerides was found at doses ≥8 mg/d and when trials last ≥8 weeks. In addition, a significant decrease of total cholesterol was found at doses ≥8 mg/d and when total cholesterol baseline levels were ≥200 mg/dL. '

The virgin coconut oil available here seems to have been switched or mixed with copra oil recently. Even the more expensive brands that used to always smell like fresh coconut. It becomes most apparent when cooking with it - it takes on a strong "off" smell. Even a carton of coconut based ice cream had the copra smell. Is that happening in the Philippines?
Does heating the coconut oil alter its tendency to raise cholesterol?

Do you have any information about red rice yeast and it having the same side effects as statins? I've been taking LDL Omega capsules for my cholesterol and it works to bring it down, but I also get the same muscle aches and leg cramping as when I took statins. This formula has the CoQ10 as well, but the leg cramping has me wanting to not take it anymore.

To a small quantity of hot water in a glass, add a small spoonful of pure coconut oil and wild honey and stir until dispersed, add 200 - 250ml of spring water 10ml of raw cider vinegar and 25ml aloe vera, do not sip but try to drink it fairly quickly, this should sort things out.
Understanding the Role of Cholesterol
Low cholesterol is associated with higher rates of aggression, violent behavior, depression, suicide, also cancer, Parkinson's, memory loss, and other illnesses. So, while lowering cholesterol lowers risks of heart disease, it raises risks of other health issues.
In the book Uninformed Consent the authors quote a recommendation of around 230 as being the (all around) safest cholesterol level.
So if someone is fighting anger, depression, etc, maybe he should check his cholesterol levels and if they are on the low side try to raise them to around 230.
Maimonides, a Jewish sage and doctor taught that in personal traits the middle way is balanced and healthy. To get to the middle and balanced way one should examine one's personal traits and strive to bend any unbalanced personal trait to its opposite, (after-which, in most cases, one should bring the trait to the middle; with anger, however, one should bend it too its opposite without afterwards going to the middle). And what is the opposite of anger? Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna said that one should bend anger to mercy (and this will help a person overcome anger). Nachmanides, Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman taught that one should train oneself to always "speak all one's worlds, calmly/gently/softly to all people, at all times, and in all circumstances, and in this way one will be saved from anger".

Understanding Cholesterol Test Results
If you want good heart health, look into nattokinase, lumbrokinase and vitamin K2. There is a discussion on K2 within olive extract under blood pressure. How old are you by the way?
Understanding Cholesterol Test Results
Members believe the Mediterranean diet, or the Low carb diet may help with artery damage. Vitamin K2 will take calcium out of the blood vessels and direct it to the bones and teeth where it belongs. I take fish, black seed and sea buckthorn oil to keep my blood from clotting, and watch for high iron (causing sticky blood), which I can donate blood to overcome. You need cholesterol for every part of the body, especially the brain. It collects in arteries to repair damage that has already occurred. Meditation and yoga helps for stress. I don't know why people get heart disease, but cholesterol is not the reason, and statins are never the answer.
Understanding Cholesterol Test Results
I looked at the lumbrokinase and it looks like it would also be good for dissolving biofilms in Lyme disease and help antibiotics work more effectively. I passed this info on to others who may benefit and someone thought it may then also help with the candida biofilms. I agree about the importance of keeping the arteries clean to avoid heart disease. I have had radiowave ablation of my saphanous leg vein, which still had some non-closed areas because the vein was so large, so I hesitate to take any vein opener in case it reopens. Do you think I could still use Serrapeptase safely? I would like to keep my arteries clear, if possible. My vein doctor had no idea what it was when I asked him about it, but at least he admitted it. Thank you!
Understanding Cholesterol Jumps
The spike up could just be a bad reading...that happens all the time. It's cheap to get another reading from an outside lab to confirm the aberrant jump.
I'm one of those who consumes Vitamin E (natural/ not synthetic) and so believe that cholesterol readings ... at least for me.... do not matter because the E keeps platelets "slick" as well as arteries and veins and hence foreign substances will not stick and form clots. Thus the damage that might happen will be kept from taking place. The problem with trying to keep cholesterol from forming by statin drug use misses the essential point that the body (the liver) intentionally makes cholesterol and cholesterol is essential for body health.
Google Dr.Ron Rosedale's " exposing the cholesterol myth" a you tube video...only 9 minutes long. Very informative.
Understanding Cholesterol Jumps
Also, you should include some herbal liver support because the liver is the metabolic factory for cholesterol (as one poster verified). Here's a list: Milk Thistle Seed, Artichoke Leaves, Dandelion Root, Burdock Root, Yellowdock Root, Beet Root. Try to find an otc product w/ as many of these herbs in combination as possible. These will increase bile flow which also increases the solubility of fats. Triple strength lecithin also increases the solubility of cholesterol.
Understanding Cholesterol Jumps
Current opinion concerning healthy cholesterol levels follows The Lipid Theory which assumes that fats, particularly saturated fats, are bad for you.
I prefer Linus Pauling's Unified Theory concerning cholesterol which seems to make much more sense. Here is a comparison of these two theories given in a very easy to understand document which was written by a knowledgeable pharmacist that might help you to understand these two points of view:
Comparing the Unified Theory with the Lipid Theory
In your own case, your total cholesterol certainly has suddenly risen considerably. Cholesterol is needed in the body to help build and to help repair damaged cells. Therefore a sudden high rise in total cholesterol tells me that there might be damaged tissue or a damaged organ (not necessarily the heart) in your body -- which has caused the sudden rise in needed cholesterol.
Since you are also having menopause problems(you are taking Primrose oil) this could also be causing your cholesterol levels to suddenly fluctuate. Cholesterol is also essential to manufacture hormones such as testosterone and estrogen.
The best way to help both your cholesterol and menstrual issues or changes would be to supplement lugols iodine or Iodoral(lugol's iodine in a pill). Iodine helps to balance the hormones by converting estrone (strong psuedo-estrogen) to estriol (weak estrogen).
The iodine, when combined with the niacin that you are taking, should also help to safely lower cholesterol levels and also help reduce any menstrual issues.
If you decide to take the Iodine Protocol then you should take all the iodine companion nutrients as advised in this document:

Statins
Yes, the problems are from the statins...or so assume. Good you got off when you did.
Suggestion on dealing with the continuing problem, eg neck etc.
To get the statins out of you, cleanse. I mean deep cleanse. There are different cleansers The best to get to the cellular level, lemon drink while fasting. Six lemons cut in half and squeeze a half in purified glass of water. Twelve glasses of that a day; so six lemons daily...for ten days. By the third day, you'll be visiting rest room every thirty minutes; the lemon will clean out down to the cellular level. Also you'll knock out any kidney stones you happen to have.

Cholesterol Testing
"The interesting thing is that most cases of heart disease in the twentieth century are of a form that is new, namely heart attack or myocardial infarction—a massive blood clot leading to obstruction of a coronary artery and consequent death to the heart muscle. Myocardial infarction (MI) was almost nonexistent in 1910 and caused no more than 3, 000 deaths per year in 1930. Dr. Paul Dudley White, who introduced the electrocardiograph machine to America, stated the following during a 1956 American Heart Association televised fund-raiser: "I began my practice as a cardiologist in 1921 and I never saw an MI patient until 1928." By 1960, there were at least 500, 000 MI deaths per year in the US. Rates of stroke have also increased and the cause is similar—blockage in the large arteries supplying the brain with blood." http://www.examiner.com/article/american-heart-assassination
In recent studies, it was found that the so called "bad" cholesterol became more useful as people aged.
The amount of sugar consumed by the population hasn't changed much since 1900. Sugar has been demonized for a long time. Moderate consumption of sugar is not a problem. If I make a large lemon meringue pie, I only use around 110 grams of sugar. If I eat half the pie today, I only am eating 55 grams of sugar which is way less than average. People don't have to give up sweet things like pies, cake and ice cream since they generally don't contain a lot of sugar. Ideally, using non refined cane sugar may be even more healthier.
Telling people to give up sugar is just silly. There may be other health conditions it may be more relevant in but heart disease is not one of them. People can experiment with their diet to see what effect it has on them.

Oat Straw Tea
★★★★★
My cholesterol has never been as low as it was this time. Total cholesterol had dropped a full 20 points. LDL was down from 101 to 82 and HDL was up from 40 to 56. Triglycerides had dropped from 65 to 45.
My wife's cholesterol had also dropped substantially, but for her the best thing was a 65 point drop in her triglycerides.
We bought it in bulk online, in a 1# bag. We put 2 tblsp in a tea bag and brew it by the pot. I drink most of it, but my wife will drink at least one cup a day. We also add an herbal flavored tea, such as apricot or pomagranate for flavor. The oat straw doesn't have much flavor of its own. My wife also likes to ad a little stevia.
It is relatively cheap. After a month, we have barely put a dent in the 1# bag. There aren't any side effects and its all natural.
I had read somewhere about 'oat straw tea', so I thought I would give it a try. Straw in my area, goes for about $3 a bale, which would presumably make a lot of tea. I use disposable tea sacks, but a tea ball would suffice.
I have blood work done on a regular basis for my heart and thyroid. After drinking a cup or two of 'oat straw tea' every evening for several months, my blood work showed a drop of 30 points in my LDL, a 15 increase in HDL and triglycerides also dropped correspondingly.
I stopped drinking it, though I don't remember why, and the numbers returned to where they had been. Not good. So, I started drinking it again.
This time around, LDL went from 135 to 95, HDL went from 40 to 55 and triglycerides dropped from 65 to 35.
Both times, the ONLY thing that changed was the use or lack of use of the 'oat straw tea'. I was amazed. The beauty of 'oat straw tea' is that it is simple, cheap and there are NO harmful side effects.
I strongly encourage others to give this a try. If you don't have a farmer close by that grows oats, you can buy OST online in bulk and use your own strainer. I've tried other natural methods to lower cholesterol and never saw such positive results. You get the benefit of the oats without the carbs. I brew it by the pot, along with my favorite herb tea, and keep the leftovers in the fridge for my wife to drink as iced tea. Oh yeah, her numbers all dropped also.
Statins
DIET: I cut out all red meat, switched to soy milk. Primarily, I would eat pinto beans with brown rice for dinner with salsa and avocado, sometimes a veggie chicken patty with brown rice and veggies. Breakfast was nonfat greek yogurt or a flax muffin. Lunches were sushi or a subway veggie delight sandwich on wheat. Occasionally, I would eat chicken and fish. I tried NOT to eat anything with saturated fat at all. Lots of bran!
EXERCISE: This might be the most important element. I exercised nearly every day. 45 minutes on the eliptical M-F and an hour on the weekends, plus some weights and crunches on the weekends. If you want to lower your bad cholesterol, YOU MUST EXERCISE LIKE THIS.
PILLS: I started out trying lecithin and red yeast rice, but I read that red yeast rice is identical to taking a statin, and not regulated so they can have a lot of impurities in red yeast rice. The lecithin made me headachy and, I think, made me have heart palpitations. So instead, I decided to try one pill of D-Limonine (Orange Oil), one pill of Fish Oil and one pill of Psyllium every day.
RESULT: I think I started this on January 25 or so. My blood was tested on March 29. Got the results today and my bad cholesterol was only 127!!!!! Hooray!!!
I don't know what the other numbers were, I was just too happy about my bad cholesterol. No idea if the Orange Oil was the key, but I am going to keep taking it and try to get my bad cholesterol under 100. I think exercise and weight loss are critical, however. I lost about 20 pounds in about two months. Good luck to all!

Cheryl, the fructose that your body doesn't burn during digestion, is converted into triglycerides and stored in fat tissue; this is why high fructose corn syrup can cause obesity.
To remove the triglycerides take lots of B vitamins. B-100 2 or 3 times daily. To further enhance energy production you can add any or all these nutrients: DMG, CoQ10, ALA. To increase thermogenesis, use caffeinated coffee or tea; along with some cardio, this should burn those stubborn fats.

I eat now lots of mixed salads with lots of lettuce, and veggies, I eat 3 times a day protein in form of eggs, goat milk, goat/sheep cheese and meat (chicken, beef, lamb, fish, but no pork). I eat pretty much all veggies raw or steamed with fresh herbs and flax seed oil or coconut oil or as a soup. I eat not more than max 2 cups of fruit per day, because I think the sugar in fruit caused my high cholesterol during my vegan time and caused problems with blood sugar and pancreas.
I completely avoid everything with starches, esp. Bread, noodles, rice, deserts and everything with sugar. I do eat once in a while steamed potatoes or fresh corn on the cobb or a bean dish.
I use Stevia to sweeten my milk shakes which I make with a few strawberries, blueberries and goat milk since I get sinusitis and gain weight from cow milk.
I do make my salad dressings with ACV and flax seed oil (refrigerated) and Herbamare, a salt herb mix. I do not restrict my fat intake, but I don't use butter, or whipped cream, but quite a bit flax seed oil and coconut oil. I also take baking soda 2x a day in water.
Now my blood pressure, my cholesterol and my weight are perfect.

So beware! Those who are being advised to take statins by your doctors should pay close attention to your body reactions. The best thing is to evaluate yourself if it is reallly benefitial to you. Is cloresterol as bad as they claim? Search the web and you'll find many infos that might shock you! It was too late for me! Cholesterol has been distorted by the big Pharma for they can benefit big time in it - worldwide sales of statins is over $160 billion annually. But to those who suffer this so called side effects from the statins everyday, it is a killing drug! Many healthy people became sick and a few died from this drug! I don't know how much incentive my doctor who prescribed me the statins had received, but I wish him and those who push the statins to burn in hell!
PS - I wonder if EC would open a new link on this topic? I am sure I am not the only victim of statins over here! Ironically, if I didn't suffer from this thing, I would'nt be connected to this wonderful website! Thank you, EC!

You need cholesterol in your system. I had 280-300 and I started taking 1500 Mg. garlic oil caps. One a day and the Cholesterol went to 170. It happened over a 6 month period. I do not take statins. Trigliserides are good. Funny, statins cost a lot and can make you loose your memory.
Garlic oil caps cost 4.99 for 500 and also help with stomaach problems and high blood pressure. 140/90 to 117/70. You can get them from a health food store or online.
