Fasting
Posted by Travis (Chicago, Il) on 04/24/2010

Hi I just went to get my blood checked and she said I had a lot of yeast. I wanted to know if I like fast on nothing but water (bottled) will that kill the yeast. I want to do five days but I think i'm willing to try to go longer. When she first examined the single drop of blood she said I have poor digestion which I do. She also said my antioxidant levels were low and that I had quite a bit of uric acid. She recommend a good multi, digestive enzymes, reservatrol, and a fungal cleanse. She also said my blood was acidic. I guess I just want some help with the fasting (my idea)and the supplements. Can I use supplements while fasting?? I would also like to oil pull, is this okay??

ACV, Baking Soda, Magnesium, Vit E
Posted by Erin (Tampa, Fl) on 04/04/2010

I'd like to vouch for the suggestion of magnesium citrate. I experience heart palpitations that I believe might be caused by a recurrent candida problem (which I believe to be a complication of another problem), but ever since I started taking 250 mg of magnesium citrate before bed, the palpitations have ceased. Other symptoms of candida keep cropping back up, but magnesium stopped the rapid heartbeat problem very effectively!

Hi everyone, It seems that candida plagues an awful lot of people and really can wreak havoc in their bodies and lives. I would like to bring to everyone's attention a woman named Donna Gates who offers so much information in restoring the body's ecological balance. She has her own website and offers lots of free info. You can also watch her on youtube making fermented veggies which she says can really help the body find its balance. I discovered her not that long ago and find her work extremely valuable and have incorporated fermented foods/drinks into my diet. She has her own method of eating called Body Ecology and also a book but you can just learn a lot if that is too expensive for you and start incorporating her ideas.

She also reminds us that now is the natural time in nature, of which we are a part of, to cleanse the body from all that we have stored up during the dormant months of winter. Our bodies are actually primed for this process in the spring but we have lost a connection to this as we have been increasingly separated from the natural rhythms of life. She suggests eliminating oils and fats right now, animal protein, or at least stepping back from it dramatically right now, adding in lots of greens to lighten our bodies, adding lemon or sour/bitter to our diets to help cleanse the liver which naturally wants to detoxify during the spring and prepare for the hot months of summer. By doing this now, we unload the toxins from our bodies that otherwise will continue to accumulate if this process is not done thereby, leading to all the various "diseases" that are plaguing people these days. The diet is very inclusive, meaning it can appeal to vegetarians, vegans, meat eaters, etc. She acknowledges that everyone is unique and has different needs. Hope you check this out- it is invaluable info!

Oh, and Rob from Manhattan, she talks a lot about the unbelievable benefits of natto! So amazing that I'm going to find some!

To our health, Lisa

Great feedback! I have suffered with Candida since I was a child. I had chronic sinus infections and a doctor who was happy to prescribe antibiotics several times a month. The diflucan came next, and I was up to 10 a year, which is awful! This has since caused hormonal imbalances and numerous ovarian cysts as well as insomnia. The classic case I guess you would say.

I have been on a very high end probiotic (candida flora) for months now and have noticed much less bloating and abdominal discomfort. I have just discovered GSE! I am using the nasal spray and the capsules. I am going to try it in a neti pot and make douche next.

Do you have any experience with ACV? I eat very healthy and have a healthy lifestyle.

Thanks again, best feedback so far :)

Bill, I am not afraid of taking B/S, from my experience using two tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, I always need at least one tablespoon of B/S to stop the fizzle. I just want to double check with your experience to make sure I am doing this right.

Bill, I have to agree with you on how destructive fungus is to the human body and how deceptive it can be. As you mention it will hid in the body waiting for an opportunity to start growing and a person will never know it. I see fungus as one of the great cleanser of the earth digesting unused material. But what does this tell us about what we are consuming and we get an overgrowth inside. As you know too much toxins and waste. I believe eating clean is a big part of conquering this dis-ease.

I am now for the 4th time in my life dealing with this. I am having great results with EC remedies and your posts. I also used the maple syrup combined with baking 3 xs a day to kick start the clean up. Boy did it do it. I lost 7 pounds from stomach in about 3 days. I feel so much better not having the extra weight around the middle. If anyone tries this be prepared to feel really sick for a week or so.

Thanks for your posts and sharing your journey as it is a great encouragement to fellow travelers.

Hi Maria...In answer to your questions:

1. How much lime/lemon juice and baking soda is you use?

Use 1/2 tspn Baking soda dissolved in the juice of one lemon or lime. Just slowly add the BS to the lemon/lime juice in 1/2 glass of water until it stops fizzing(Do not worry if you use a little more or less than 1/2 tspn BS). Take this at least 2 times a day -- at least one hour before or two hours after meals. Never take this remedy with meals. Take this 5 times a week with 2 days rest every week.

2. Milk Thistle - is this in a form of tea or powder. How much and how frequently do you use it?

I took Milk Thistle powder in capsule form -- Two 1500 mg capsules per day. Do not buy the tablets, buy the capsule form containing powder. I took this every day in order to help my liver cope with the Herx reaction or fungal die-off.

Kelp tablets - not sure I need it or do I?

Kelp contains minerals, but I took it mainly for the iodine to support my immune system. It is always a good idea to support your immune system as much as possible. You can also use iodine foot-painting (transdermal absorbtion) as well as described here if you like:

https://www.earthclinic.com/remedies/iodine3.html#IP

I use iodine painting now. For this you can use lugol's iodine or just ordinary iodine tincture or even Betadine.

Ted advises the best way to get rid of oral thrush here:

https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/thrush.html#TED

Although I've never used the ACV plus hydrogen peroxide(H2O2) combo, I have used these two separately for different reasons and they are both powerful anti-fungals. I also agree wholeheartedly with all his other advice.

Hi Bill, Thanks for the prompt response and thorough explanation. However, I have a few questions regarding your remedies:

1. How much lime/lemon juice and baking soda dis you use?
2. Milk Thistle - is this in a form of tea or powder. How much and how frequently do you use it.
3. Kelp tablets - not sure I need it or do I

I have had thrush in my throat (I'm sure it's in my stomach as well) for about 2 months now and went the Rx route but I'm ready to use the home remedies. I am also over 60 and having a tough time of it but I'm not giving up, there must be an answer. I am determined to kill this fungus off and get my life back. All the best to you.

Coconut Oil

Hi Maria...It took a year to cure my candida. And coconut oil wasn't the only remedy I used. I also used the following.

* Ted's lime/lemon plus Baking soda 3 times a day for alkalizing the body.

* Occasionally Ted's ACV plus BS or BS on its own on in water to provide more energy and to provide more bicarbonates respectively.

* Teaspoon of Blackstrap Molasses in my coffee for minerals.

* Milk thistle to support my liver throughout the cure.

* Kelp tablets for iodine.

* My own homemade decoction of Tinospora cordifolia, Phyllanthus niruri(Chanca piedra or Stonebreaker) and Tumeric, all of which grow in my garden. I took this for liver, kidney and intestinal support throughout the cure. I have recently included Neem leaves in this decoction, because I found a Neem tree in my neighboorhood the other day. Neem, amongst all its other highly beneficial properties, is also highly alkalizing.

I had terrible constipation for about 7 years and usually had a bowel movement once every 4 days. Not good. The coconut oil had an immediate effect on this, my stools became smaller and softer, and eventually I started to have regular BM everyday. I cook everything in VCO now, even use it on my salads. I have banned all other polyunsaturated veg oils from my diet now, since most of these are highly processed chemically and suffer oxidation too quickly which is bad for the body. VCO should be unprocessed, stable and it takes 2-3 years to oxidize this oil.

Just to say that intestinal candida is an insidious problem that can be very hard to eradicate. It is insidious because initially you don't notice its effects, they sort of creep up on you and since I'm over 60 y o I just thought it was age...LOL. But then I stumbled on EC and read about candida. I now regard any yeast, mold or fungus as the prime human enemy now, far more destructive on the human body than viruses, bacteria etc. Fungus's are way more adaptable than any other microbe, they are neither plant nor animal, they can hide for years, they can transfer their nucleus via their hypha by penetrating host cells in order to hide and breed when under attack. The overall effect of this is to continually weaken and wear down the body's immune system, and eventually to provide a wonderful acid environment to allow in a plethora of other viruses and bacteria. This is why it takes so long to get rid of and recover from candida.

Simply put, there is no one magic bullet for candida. I still regard Ted's lemon/lime remedy as the prime remedy that hepled to destroy my candida. But I also have a very high regard for VCO too.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Posted by Lita209 (Sanford, Fl, Usa) on 03/01/2010

Addrienne from Chicago: I see you have the same question I do. I take ACV and I am trying to make my daughter take it as well for her candida symptoms but that's her argument; that she is not supposed to ingest vinegar. Well I have google ACV for candida and it is a big yes! Here is a copy of one the sites I went:
"If apple cider vinegar helps cure candida yeast infections, then why do some people say to avoid fermented foods for candida?"

The recommendation to avoid fermented foods and vinegar in order to cure candida is misleading. I believe it comes from the desire to avoid moldy foods and fermented yeasty beverages like beer and wine.
Mold aggravates candida symptoms and alcohol is a yeast fermentation product, where, in some cases, yeasts can still be present in the beverage. Some people feel it's best to avoid yeast in any form when following a candida diet (but that's for another page altogether).

Alcohol is a waste product of yeasts eating sugar. The reason it's best to avoid alcohol when doing a natural candida cure diet is because the candida yeasts excrete alcohol as a byproduct of sugar metabolism, which contribute to the feelings of brain fog, lack of coordination, fatigue and muscle weakness. We don't want to add even more alcohol to a body which is already a little "drunk".

Note: That's why my candida recipes are all low carbohydrate; carbohydrates are sugars. Sugars feed candida. Candida produces alcohol as a waste product of eating the sugars.

Alcohol and vinegar both go through a fermentation process, in fact, vinegar is made from alcohol!

But they're not the same. Just as mold and naturally fermented sauerkraut are quite different from each other.

In very simplified terms - Wine is made from fruit juice which has undergone a yeast fermentation, where the yeasts ferment the sugars into alcohol. Making vinegar from wine involves another fermentation process, called acetobacter fermentation. Acetobacter is a kind of bacteria which converts alcohol into acetic acid (the major component in vinegar).

By the time something has been fermented into vinegar, there are no more yeasts or sugars to worry about.

Along the same fermentation lines as apple cider vinegar (and therefore similar in its benefits) is sauerkraut that has been fermented by lactic acid bacteria. Cabbage is one of the easiest vegetables to ferment, as its naturally loaded with lactic acid bacteria.

Sauerkraut is sour because the bacteria has fermented the sugars in the cabbage. It's the same reason vinegar tastes sour. Fermented foods like vinegar and sauerkraut are not at all like wine, beer, or mold.

Stay away from mold whenever possible."

I hope this helps if not just google Apple cider vinegar for candida. Good health to you.

I use the tumeric for my candida too, but to cure the candida you have to heal the gut. You can do that with aloe gel and fermented foods, as well as eliminating any toxins/allergens, both food and chemical, that are exascerbating the problem.

Turmeric Stopped My Candida

Since taking an antibiotic a few months ago, I have been plagued with a Candida overgrowth in my bladder. So painful, and I couldn't leave home. I was taking natural anti-fungals, expensive probiotics, and following the pesky (but helpful) Candida diet.

Then I had a bad flare-up of arthritis, and remembering that turmeric worked wonders with that before, I ate curries for two weeks straight. (Fortunately I love curries!)

Anyway, not only did my arthritis symptoms abate significantly, but my Candida symptoms disappeared!

I can discontinue the expensive probiotics, or at least take less of them, and I don't have to stay strictly on the Candida diet, so long as I have turmeric in some form at least five days a week. I have just learned about turmeric tea, which means I can eat other types of meals besides curry all the time! And, it's great to be able to go out and about again without diving for bathrooms all the time.

Hello again pheonix: i admire the way you handled my post. That's strength of character for sure!

I understand where you are coming from. Encouraging people to get a second opinion, or a third or fourth, as well as really listening to their body and gaining more insight into that 'intuition' is key. But i think that goes for anything on this site, (or for anything in life?)

But, suspicion that it's 'real', and insinuation that people may be making up the condition or being hypocondriach, seems only to detract... That is the main 'beef' i had with your post. I feel that may not have been your intention. i'm here to learn too. I'll move on.

To answer the questions:

I noticed candida symptoms in may 2008. It came on suddenly and i believe, after my research, that my main contributing factors were: 1)viral (had mono earlier that year) 2) worn adrenals (main trigger of elevated symptoms?) 3) slight vitamin deficiency from taking bc pills (was off them for many months, but have always struggled to maintain sufficient iron) 4 )i had taken antiobiotics in my lifetime, though not in years. Just to throw that in.

Slowly i noticed more and more things as time went on (about a month).

I did not go to a doctor or anything like that. I researched symptoms and somehow narrowed it down to candida. This was not overnight like most ailments i've had; this was much more digging and re-evaluation. But, i had some very tell-tale unique symptoms which fit the bill. It was not easy to pin this down. I had to put the puzzle pieces together of the very minute and 'odd' symptoms i was having.

But i am familiar with this process. I have cured myself naturally many times and know to listen to my inner voice or higher guidance, and this has brought much success. This is important to note as it is certainly an element.

I got rid of it basically by following the diet in the yeast connection book to-the-letter. Eventually i added more protein into my diet (just my own idea...i certainly needed it). I also followed a garlic (yeast killing) regiment, and then a probiotic regiment. I have other posts here that describe that in detail.

Around september of that same year, i was feeling recovered and began to introduce the 'forbidden foods' back into my diet slowly, and to drink wine again; things like that.

Been feeling fine since then with no relapse, no attention to special dietary habits (i eat raw, but i can eat honey, etc). Basically, it's forgotten.

This is all I can say and please do with it what you will. If it wasn't candida, whatever struck me sounded just like it, and following a combined, puzzled together regiment banished it away. It certainly was no 'vague-cure-all' type of thing. This was an intense strategy that took immense patience.

I do see your point about possible 'fad' ailments being tacked onto any complaint. But i think that advice for people trying to steer clear of that is to be thoughtful and mindful, do tons of research, get professional assistance...and read lots of earth clinic : )

I wish you best of luck in pinning down the source of your joint pain pheonix. & best of health to you!

Thanks also lisa. I have read many of your posts and always enjoy the insight you bring.

Personally, I think this is a very important dialogue to have. To be honest I was perplexed too at phoenix's post questioning the candida issue being as widespread as it is. I have done quite a bit of research over the years and have helped people overcome it and really believe it is a major problem here in America. Perhaps, in Australia you aren't seeing it. Maybe your diet's are better there. Not so here in the US. Candida is a very serious problem but, yes there are people who could mistake it for other imbalances in the digestive tract.

We should look at this. What can lead to C. ?(for brevity's sake I will call it C.) It is caused mainly from a combination of way too many carbs in the diet, sugar, processed foods, really anything not close to original source, rampant use of antibiotics here in the US and also poor environments too such as molds or fungus growing home/workplace.

C. is a yeast or mold form itself. It can affect the skin, throat=thrush, organs and in women manifests as yeast infections. It is this alone that women are more affected than men due to our delicate balance that is apparent when it is thrown off. Everyone should know that there are candida tests that one can find all over the internet. If you question it in yourself I would recommend going over the test.

Symptoms that must be present in order for it to really be C. are: abdominal gas, headaches/migraines, excessive fatigue(and I mean really gassed-out type), serious cravings for sugar and/or alcohol, high anxiety- a strong indicator, vaginitis, rectal itching, the inability to concentrate/think clearly, hyperactivity/mood swings, itchy skin, diarrhea, acne, eczema, depression, poor memory, low sex drive, muscle weakness, toenail/fingernail fungus.

Now, understand that I named all of these because many of them are present for it to be truly C. They may not all be present simultaneously but you will swing through many of them. And there just may be all of them at once! It can get worse too once it infiltrates organs leading to leaky gut, nervous disorders to name a few. That's when life becomes unbearable and there are many that have this.

Phoenix mentions Dr. Andrew Weil and his caution about overreacting to C. due to a single book but that single book made people aware of this major issue that the medical community still does not give credibility to. Weil is a part of that community and often, though he is "open" to alternatives is to me a "safe player" trying to make himself look good in both camps. I find he plays the line often. Don't get me wrong- he definitely serves a purpose- to wake those up who totally swallow the medical community's not-so-sound advice. Because he himself is an MD, it turns their heads and at least gets their attention to perhaps question some things. So, in that sense, he is doing a good service. Then, there are some of us who question everything and have for a long time so we don't need his authority to "have permission" to do this. That being said, I say that C. is much more rampant than the medical community gives credence.

Now, here are some key players in helping the immune system fight C. Remember, acidophilis is a natural enemy of candida. But, there are other wonderful herbs to help that are very powerful and can only help the body. They are reishi and chaga mushrooms which are from Chinese medicine and are adaptogens. Also, horsetail and pau d' arco which can both be taken as teas and can wipeout candida as well. I would also recommend an alkaline diet or at least adding in rawfoods as vegetables, and green juices.

The die-off can be a problem as it can occur in layers. You can file through symptoms and then stop and then another die-off will occur and more symptoms, etc. Drink plenty of water and on 1-2 pinches of sea salt to one liter of water. It is important to re-establish a healthy terrain in our body. Remember we are an ecosystem within our own body and we must help it flourish properly. Eat whole foods, take herbs that can heal and help the immune system, exercise within reason, rebounding is excellent to clean the lymph system, find peace within (which could be difficult if you have a serious case of C.!)

Some other healing key players: colloidal silver, zeolites, msm, coconut oil and there are more but I just feel that to get this info out is a must.

And I applaud "Hi Someone Who Cured Candida Naturally" for challenging this post as I was bothered by it but was going to blow it off. I woke up this morning feeling I had to come here and say something on this. I hope it helps someone out there. I have watched people really suffer from this affliction.

Peace, Lisa

So Phoenix, what advice or experience are you offering exactly? I come in peace, but I gotta call you out a bit here.

Have you had firsthand experience with Candida? If so, please share with us your wisdom and share loudly. That's kind of why we're all here and reading.

Can't take the fact that Candida may be widespread? Get out of the kitchen! Search Wikipedia for often-suppressed natural health information!? Are you for real! (Hey, I mean no harm...but really!? I swear you are blowing your allopathic medicine-worshipping cover) If not, what purpose does your post serve? Well!?

Some of the statements you make are untrue; at the very least, WIDELY open to debate. WIDELY. Please refrain from sharing your hasty google search 'findings' as we here know how to do that for ourselves, thank you.

Again, I ask you: Have you firsthand experience with Candida? Because I have, and cured myself...and learned SO much in the process about the complexity of the thing... Millions of dollars of research haven't exactly been thrown at the thing like it's a Pink Ribbon cure you know.

And, I'll have you know that it was the Yeast Connection book that did help immensely, along with independant articles/research put into very disciplined practice. I also connected many dots from the book as to causes, which would not have been well understood or examined without the education found in that book. And talking with others (for one, a naturapathic physician who also had Candida) further helped to validate my findings.

Yes, this is such a complex situation, and I am only one unique individual with my own unique health record. I do believe there are other methods that could be helpful than what I did; that there is no 'black and white' cure all, that lifestyle changes may be necessary for the duration needed to achieve cure, and there is so much still to learn. Wow, big surprise!

Compared to other conditions, the info on Candida is extremely sparse. It is only yet begun! How can you come here and claim to know it all! (Notice there is no question mark at the end of my statement. You don't need one when you know the truth: that your post is bankrupt)

If you have absolutely no firsthand experience, or a helpful idea, please limit yourself to subjects you know more about instead of trying to discourage and belittle people who seek healing and true contributions, whether negative or positive.

To Karen - Your tongue was probably white then it turned black. I would say that you used way too much H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide) and killed everything that lives on your tongue the good and the bad. I also did this once when I used to much H202. It went from white to red then to black then back to white. Your tongue will most likely go back to a white color after a few days. Take Care.

Hi Karen...A black tongue can also be caused by :

* Smoking

* Using antacids frequently like Pepto-bismol (for upset stomach) and others that are based on bismuth chemicals -- such as bismuth subsalicylate.

* Over-use of antibiotics.

* Candida infection -- although in most mouth candida/thrush infections the tongue is white or patchy white, with thick and sour-tasting sputum.

Bill from the philippines:

Thanks a lot for your answer. I hadn't read the posts on candida yet but did so this morning and I came across your post as well. Especially the confirmation that flu-like symptoms can occur reassured me. So I took my acv, blackstrap molasses, tumeric and cayenne-drink as usual in the mornings. I also take often (and will increase) a spoon of pure coconut oil and went to the health store today for grape seeds extract (which is really expensive over here - but I got lucky I found it). I am looking forward for results. The only thing I am not sure of is whether to take the anti-candida oral get the doc prescribed... Could this speed up the proces and could this be helpful? Or should I say no to this traditional medicine? .. I ask this question because I've seen a site from someone with chronic fatgue who is cured of candida and in the end completely cured buy eating natural healthy foods, but she recommended this so I guess it could be helpful... The thing is that I am working and really need this money, can't afford to go into this kind of deep detox again, .... Yeah I know... Thanks for answering my question, what do you (and other readers) think?

Candida Detoxing Symptoms
Posted by Bill (San Fernando, Philippines) on 02/09/2010

Hi Karen...If you have Candida in the mouth then it's very likely you have candida in your intestines as well. I've had Intestinal Candida, and managed to cured it. Here is a past extract of what I used and how I cured it:

"Bill from San Fernando, Philippines replies: "Hi Deborah and Cured from Niceville...I had candida three years ago. My symptoms were psoriasis, eczma, BM and toilet only once every 4 days if I was lucky, tired and sluggish all day, severe grogginess and brainfog in the mornings, jock itch(tinea cruris) and overweight. I also regularly caught colds, flu etc many times a year on a regular basis.

This is what I took to cure candida:

* Ted's alkalizing remedies using either whole squeezed lemon/lime or 2 tbspns ACV plus 1/2 tspn baking soda(Arm & Hammer brand) two or three times a day. This is Ted's Alkalizing Remedy and this is THE NUMBER ONE CURE for Candida in my book.

* One tablespoons of virgin coconut oil stirred into my coffee at least 3 times a day.

* Blackstrap molasses in my coffee, no refined sugar or aspartame sweetener allowed in my diet.

When I started this remedy at the beginning, I got fairly severe flu-like symptoms -- it almost seemed as if the remedy was making me worse. But this die off or Herxheimer Effect always happens when you get the fungal toxins in your blood from the microbes and fungus, so think of it as a good sign.

Your liver and kidneys are overworked initially, until your immune system can get on top of it. After this die-off it was easy. All my skin problems just disappeared slowly (except the jock itch -- but that's another story) and I haven't had a cold or flu in 2 years.

Mind you, it took me a full year to completely get rid of my candida. And even though I'm clear of candida now, and since it is very difficult to eat non-acidic foods these days, I still always alkalize and take coconut oil a couple of times a week as a preventative even now (plus supplementing borax, magnesium, natural sea salt etc as recommended by Ted on this site).

Black tongue due to candida detox?

Hello, I am 32 years old, living in western europe, Belgium. I am truly happy to have found this website and got very enthusiastic on the remedies and exchange of experiences. As I wrote before thanks a lot for existing!

I started one month and a half to drink every morning a glass of hot water, apple cider vinegar, black strap molasses and turmeric. In the evenings, I usually drink a glass of warm water with acv, baking soda and some honey for taste. I felt better, but I have to mention I went slowly in upgrading the amount of AVC. I felt great, share the same experiences, it helped me to get rid of the morning coffee. I also have a balanced diet with lots of veggies, fruit, fish and I avoid (but not totaly eliminate) wheat products and sugar. I am just not very rigid in saying no but limit this to two times a week.

I lost 3 kg since I started doing this.

Now, since one week, I am at home from work with what seems a big flu. I was aware that I could get some flu-like symptoms from detox, but it is very cold, wet and just the season for flu so nothing wrong with getting a flu. I added some cayenne pepper and think I am doing allright.

What does bother me tough is this: now I have a black tongue. I rince with hydrogen peroxide (what I learned from this site), brush well, drink a lot of water, clean my tongue with a scraper, etc... I had to go to my regular dokter for prescribing me some more days because I still have headaches and suffer from fatigue. So I asked her what it could be. She said "candida" in the mouth and prescribed me daktarin oral, to fight the fungus in my mouth.

What to think about this? Is it my body in detox trying to get rid of the candida? Should I be more severe in stopping all wheat and sugar (which are already very limited)? Should I not take this dakarin or is it recommended? Do i risk just fighting the symptoms and not the cause? I don't know. The only think I do know is that I sincerely lack energy now. Today I skipped my usual health cocktail, maybe I was detoxing too fast... I must keep on working tough, I can not permit myself to stay at home and go into detox all the way. Please help me out... Must do something wrong OR do this very well... I am confused.

Thanks a lot for your responses!

Karen.

I suffered from candida infections virtually all my adult life. It started after I used antibiotics in my early twenties and became chronic. This changed once I started to use virgin coconut oil for cooking at age 38. What a relief!
I went to a food intolerance check in my local health food shop. The man was all set to diagnose me with candida because then he would be able to sell me lots of medicines (his major source of income) - or so it seemed to me. However, he checked and checked and could not find the candida. He seemed astonished because apparently he found the fungus in everyone. Anyway, I am free of candida for the last 10 years and as an added bonus I also suffer less from herpes outbreaks that I used to have much more frequently.

I think this is a good suggestion and not something that comes easy to me I always eat fast, people comment on it too it is obvious when they finish after me always, they say you ate fast I say why not tell me when you notice I am! I have had digestion problems and candida for years so it's a worth a try, I should be doing it anyhow.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Caprylic Acid
Posted by Anonymous (USA) on 12/29/2009

I have been on a Candida Diet for about 6 months, definitely with some improvements. However, just couldn't get rid of this recurring yeast infections. After further research I kept on hearing about capryllic acid, and what a powerful anti-fungal it is. What I didn't know is that you have to slowly build up the quantity (the lady in the store suggested 3 in the morning, and 3 in the afternoon). Long story short, 7 days later I had a Herxheimer reaction, also known as a die-off reaction. Mine was pretty crazy though, very scary especially if you don't know what the heck is going on and have no one to talk to about. For about a week prior I noticed red, hot burning checks, especially after I came out of the shower. Then my cheeks started becoming really dry and started slightly peeling. As mentioned, 7 days later, I woke up with extremely itchy palms in my hand and feed. Within hours the itchiness spread throughout my entire body. Something was obviously in my blood stream. It was a weekend so I went to Urgent Care as I started noticing really huge hives showing up. I was told to take Benadryl, which somewhat helped. I broke out in hives and rashes for the next two days. On day 2 and 3 both my eyelids were swollen. The doctor simply called it allergic reaction and prescribed steroids. Somebody told me to go and get hydro colon therapy for 3 consecutive days. I had my second one today. Most of my rashes, hives and itchiness are almost gone. And my eyelids are almost back to normal. In retrospect I found a lot of online information how capryllic acid can cause a herxheimer reaction, which is why you need to slowly build up the potency over a couple weeks. I'm so glad I didn't take the steroids. Well, hopefully I rid my body of the candida by now :-)"

Adequate Chewing of Food

During a battle with candidiasis, I learned just how important it is to REALLY chew up your food.

"Human saliva is composed of 98% water, while the other 2% consists of other compounds such as electrolytes, mucus, antibacterial compounds, and various enzymes." - Wikipedia

Digestion begins in the mouth. This is very important. Since I put proper chewing into practice, I found that I eat much less, and that I've become more lean and have more energy! Also my stomach is flatter, either from eating less, or from not being blocked up anymore. It's a very simple practice that everyone can improve upon. If you think you already chew enough, chew more! Perhaps this could have it's own remedy page...?

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hello Rhonda. I do not know what Stephen used to flush his kidneys since he did not specify. And since his post is way back in 2006, chances are unless he is a daily reader he probably won't respond back to your question.

I can tell you that ASPARAGUS is very good for flushing the kidneys. You can smell the asparagus as it passes from your urine. I have also read something in the asparagus actually will disolve kidney stones. So load up on the asparagus or google and find you a good organic asparagus extract. You can also type in kidney cleanse in the search box here and see if anything comes up...

Hope this helps!

Multiple Remedies

Hi there, I started oil pulling with sesame oil about 10 days and it has been great so far. After 2-3 days, my BM increased and I got worried about my gluten intolerance but figured out it was the effect of oil pulling. I am also experiencing a sinus mucus draining so for the first days, I even quit my sinus rinse because my sinus was getting cleared with oil pulling. Now, things have changed. Anyway, on this forum I learned that coconut oil is another great oil and that I can also take it internally. I researched and now have a nice jar of coconut oil. All my life, I had issues with my digestive system and I started having reflux at age 12 maybe before.

I took a table spoon of coconut oil and wow what a bad nausea I experienced! It kept me away from food yesterday.

Today, I took baking soda in water before breakfast (thanks Ted) and had breakfast about 20 minutes later. I started eating cucumber one of the rare food that helps me with acid reflux. But had 2 small slice of gluten free bread with olive oil and almond better.

I really want to do something about candida because it can only be that that is keeping me behind. I am gluten free for 3 months and even though I feel much better I still don't have all my energy back.

I don't use sugar anywhere but I love fruits. My favourite fruits of the moment are pommegrenade, pinneaple and banana. I tried other fruits too. I have heard tht the diet for candida means no fruits at all. Is that right?
How long should I stay away from them?

I don't mind a paleo diet aka veggies meat with some rice because that's how I feel the best. Almost anything else causes me reflux as soon as I have more than 3 spoon and sometimes even with very little food.

Here is my plan when I start my candida treatment:

-Take things slowly and then increase treatment
-Use coconut oil, oil of oregano, garlic, cloves, ginger and a few other things I read about.
-Alkalize my system by eating veggies like kale, cucumber celery lemon. I love the juice I make with kale cucumber and pineapple with lemon but don't know if pineaple will be a bad choice since it is a fruit.
-I snake with nuts like almond and seeds like sunflower seeds. I wonder if I should avoid the salt I know it is as good as non salty. Also, should I avoid pistachio because they are acidic and not like almond.

I also have reaction to different foods unless it is not the food but the combination. So I am thinking of eliminating eggs, soya, corn, caffeine whiteners I tried even almond milk and coconut milk. It is ok the first time but because I like having my caffeine after my meal, I ended up having reflux.

Any of suggestions will be appreciated. I need help with the coconut oil and how I can stand keep using... I never like its smell. Also, can I mix all the ingredient like coconut, oil of oreganno, garlic, clove etc and use it as a one time treatment? I drink chai tea where I put cardamone and cinnemon with clove are these other spices good for candida? These days even black tea can give me reflux should I stop the tea too?

Sorry for the long message and thank you.

I tried so many things to overcome my candida infection but the single most effective thing I tried was drinking a few dashes of cayenne pepper powder in a beverage. Vitamin and probiotic supplementation also helped some. It relieved my depression/fog, fatigue, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, yeasty body odor, itching, allergies, anxiety, high blood pressure, "blurred" vision, generalized muscle pain and spasms.

Coconut Oil

Hi Colleen...As a help to you here is a website showing much of the research on coconut oil in our diet:

http://coconutoil.com/coconut-oil-research/

There are many myths that have been spread around about saturated fats and the above web-site should explain all.

I use extra virgin coconut oil internally and externally on body every day, I regard this oil as far more curative even than olive oil because coconut oil is a stable saturated fat, whereas olive oil is a monounsaturated vegetable oil, therefore less stable and much more prone to quickly oxidise.

When I started taking coconut oil, I actually lost weight, my blood pressure went down, my cholesterol levels went down and rebalanced, I had more energy and it was a major factor in getting rid of my Candida.

I do not know if this will help,,but I am a diabetic my self so I have dietary challenges also...If you are fighting candida then it might help if you eat a low low carbohydrate diet. That might starve it out..I might be wrong I did not take time to research it,,but stop eating starchy foods, sweet fruits, no bread. for a few days eat meats, green vegtables a little cheese, no milk no juice. Try it for a few days,,,It certainly is not a diet to stay on,,but it might kill back the population or strength of the candida. Merryanne

Dietary Changes

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

I am a 46 year old male who has had the symptoms of Candida for about 15 years. I started with severe bouts of sinusitis for which the doctor prescribed repeat prescriptions of antibiotics. I was on and off these for about 1-2 years until I came to my senses and realised I was not getting better. However, by this time I had developed mood swings and heart palpations and was constantly admitted to hospital to undergo cardiac tests and low and behold they all showed I was extremely fit and healthy at least cardically. The story goes on as many of the sufferers with this problem have outlined until I turned to alternative therapies and one reoccurring condition kept coming up which was candida. Now it seems like I am in the fight of my life I just can't seem to get this thing under control.

Currently:-

Taking 3 x 1250mg garlic tablets daily.
1 x 350mg caprylic acid tablet (not enteric coated)
3 x 500mg echnicea purpurea
4 cups of java tea
pure olive oil with seasame seed.
3/4 probiotics 100 million organisms at time of
manufacture
1 1/2 litres of water per day approx.
restrictive diet (have lost 4 kgs in 3 weeks)
fennel seeds in tea to clear gas.

I have now been on this regime for about one month. The first 3 days I felt 200% better then something must have changed or I did something differently because I am still feeling very weak and understrength. Blood pressure has dropped from 130/90 with pulse at 54 to around 118/75 and pulse 75. Weight was 80.4 kg and is now 76.1 Kg.

As I am working in the MiddleEast I have not got access to all the various things that I would like such as lughol's solution which is banned as in most countries.

I have been following the posts with interest and especially Teds from Thailand. I would be grateful for some clear and sound advise as there is also a lot of contradictory statements or at least it appears so, but my own feeling is that this condition is a monster that can change and affect each person in a different way.

My diet consists of proteins derived from meat and poultry (no pork). I occasionally use minimal honey (one teaspoon a day) in my tea, I have barley porridge every two days. I eat vegetables and recommended fruits.

Oh, one thing after the first month of this routine I tried to introduce cream cheese and went into body shock and had to take a week of work. I woke up shivering although the temp was 33 centigrade, I had to put on two thick jumpers and three blankets to get warm.

I can smell the yeast on my skin and the eczema on my foot is still there with only a slight improvement also
my sinusitis has improved dramatically.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who can give salient advice in this matter.

questions:

1. How long should I continue this routine?
2. Can I find a compromise to lughol's solution.

Yogurt
Posted by Cathy (Hartville, Ohio, Usa) on 11/03/2009

Yogurt for candida - If you are feeding yogurt try to find a "greek" yogurt. There is much less sugar in greek type yogurt than any other- even organic yogurt has excess sugar which feeds the yeast.

In response to N Jo An from Atlanta about Itching and Hives/Candida.

My niece had a lot of trouble with itching and hives after a round of antibiotics. They found that she did have Candida, but one of the biggest problems was Delayed Food Allergies-removal of problem foods reduced the itching/hives about 70%. Once she got those under control, they treated the Candida which took care of another 25%. She still gets occasional hives but usually when she eats an "allergic" food.

The web has many food elimination diets to detect problem foods and an expensive blood test is available. The test isn't 100% accurate, but it may identify some problem foods, then try the food elimination diet to figure out the rest.

Boric Acid

They sell a natural bacterial vaginosis remedy in the feminine section of the drugstore that is primarily boric acid with some other herbs mixed in. I took this remedy (with little result) but experienced no ill effects from the boric acid. It was there right next to the OTC yeast infection remedies. I guess it is to restore the PH balance

Candida Treatment: I had tried several things also, but the thing that worked for me was Grapefruit Seed Extract (sometimes referred to as GSE), and a very good (refrigerated) Pro-biotic. I can't mention the brand name here, but it has 3 different types of healthy bacteria in it -- it is awesome. I took the GSE 3x daily - 10 drops in an empty gelcap (can buy at most health food stores) or you can put it in a glass of water, but it's hard to swallow - very bitter. Make SURE you drink a full glass of water with the gelcap -- it can hurt your stomach if you do not. And, I took the pro-biotic 2x daily at first -- then once daily after for maybe 2 months. Also, make sure to wait at least 2-3 hrs to take your probiotic -- you don't want the GSE to kill the good bacteria! Even after I started to feel totally better, I continued the GSE 1 or 2x daily for months.. just to be sure. THere are many, many benefits to the GSE also (do a search on the web for it -- it's also very inexpensive for all the benefits it does ) And... NO, I do not sell the GSE :-) I'm just a believer! (If your candida is vaginal, you can also douche with it -- the bottle has instructions) I have heard people say that Collodial Silver does a great job also, but it's more expensive, so I just used the GSE. It is a great natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral. I've gotten a couple of extra bottle in case anyone in my family contact swine flu. Hope this helps!

Search Google for the Candida spit test and try this if you haven't already done so. Not only has my health improved but my spit test results have greatly improved, so I know that at least some of what I have done has worked. I would recommend that read through all the posts on the Candida page and then start writing a Candida diary. This helped me to determine what was having an affect (including foods).

I would much rather you did your own research and devised your own plan of action, however I will the things that I did which I am sure helped in my case:

Lemon and bicarbonate soda drink (or baking soda for the US)
Tiny pinch of borax in 1 litre of water

Vitamins C, B E. Zinc & cod liver oil. Also selenium and Magnesium. I took all of these supplements fairly regularly (2 - 3 times a week) for a few months. This was to address any nutritional deficiencies that might exist as a consequence of the Candida. Also, many of these supplements (esp selenium) are anti fungal.

I also drink blackstrap molasses in water, particularly around my time of the month as it helps. I also drink an apple cider vinegar (with bicarbonate of soda) drink from time to time.

All of the things I mentioned here can be found in this website, so read up on everything carefully and then decide if you want to give anything a try. Good luck.

Heavy Metal Detox
Posted by Doug (Show Low, Az) on 08/30/2009

Trish, I completely agree with you that candida is the body's way of absorbing heavy metals. I have been on an eight year quest and have tried EVERYTHING, and I mean everything!!! When people kill off candida I don't think it is a Die Off. I have read that it is the body reabsorbing Mercury> I have tried garlic, cayenne pepper, H2O2, Threelac, Miracle Mineral supplement, Coconut oil, Caprilic acid, Aregeno oil, baking soda, I could go on and on. I mean it is the most frustrating thing ever, but once people realize that they have #1 take out their Amalgam fillings, then chelate the mercury from the body, then they will get rid of the candida too. I saw a huge reduction in my fatigue and other symptoms when I had my mercury fillings taken out, it was no coincedence, it was literally two days after they were out I was feeling much much better. Now ever since that time I have been trying to figure out the best way to chelate the mercury... I am currently trying Fulvic Acid w/ plant based minerals. supposedly this is the very best and quickest way to do so. I'm thinking about taking H2O2 to kill the candida then taking chlorella directly after to trap it and excrete it. If anyone else knows of a better way Please let me know too. By the way I Love this website, it is helping me to help others with their health problems... Thanks

Multiple Remedies

Regarding itching in an acute candida upset, my advice (what works for me)is to vary treatments because candida can become immune very quickly to only one. You will find the itching coming back within minutes if you don't use several things.

Two things yeast cannot stand against: Camphor and ordinary household bleach. First things first, if you're suffering from itching - don't scratch! It only opens the skin to allow a deeper infection of the buggers. Let me first say, NEVER EVER take bleach internally - never swallow bleach! Never put it INSIDE your body, like using a douche or an enema. For exterior itching, in a bowl pour 2 cups of water and add up to 2 tbsps. of bleach (in your shower), bathe the area thoroughly and rinse thoroughly - do again if you don't feel immediate relief. Rinse thoroughly, pat dry, and apply a good medicated powder - even foot powder - that contains menthol and/or camphor. Use a first aid camphor oil preparation, but follow the cleansing with a medicated drying agent. If you use the camphorated oil, use powder afterward. If you can, cover the area with a dry washcloth or piece of cotton. In other words, isolate areas where skin touches skin. Use large cosmetic cotton disposable pads - whatever - just don't let the infected areas touch each other. (Change the covering every few hours.) BE CONSISTENT. You will have to go through these steps every time you feel the itching/burning return and/or each time after using the toilet, (depending on where you are suffering), for at least 2 days.

Take a good probiotic! I was making the mistake of not taking enough. Good bacteria is your friend and you have to take enough to overcome the bad/overgrowing beasties! (You will need to take the probiotic - at a lower dose - for probably a month or more.) A word of caution! Die-off from old yeast will occur, and you might become REALLY constipated. Make sure you drink plenty of water and I take a laxative for 3 days just to help the situation. Whatever you do, stay "going." Another sure thing: Oregano. Making a tea from ordinary dried oregano helps. Drink a couple of tbsps of tea and use it topically for itch relief also. If you venture into using oregano oil (it's very strong), READ and FOLLOW the directions carefully. Research oregano on the internet. It's powerful and very potent and it can hurt you if you use it improperly. (It can be hard on the liver.)

Recap: Take probiotic and cleanse the area to deliver a one-two punch! I can get over a flare-up in one day using this regimen. What I am looking for now is a permanent cure.

Low Fat Diet, MMS

I just want to encourage others to stay on a pretty strict low fat diet while killing candida and other beasties. I have had candida for many years and have tried the lowfat raw diet and am now taking MMS in addition to it. I am only up to seven drops but so fat so good, no side effects yet. I think I am feeling well because of staying lowfat this means only fruit and vegetables and rice cakes and sprouted grain breads, etc. Everyone who has researched candida treatment knows most people say stay away from sugar but I learned that the sugar can't feed the beasties on lowfat diet on the internet. I have had very good success with it but I still get symptomatic if I slip and eat to much fat, thus I am using MMS to help kill it off. I am convinced that these two together will make and are making a huge difference. While I don't eat all raw, the MMS and lowfat high raw diet are making a big difference. Also, it is important to normalize your ph and this diet with MMS will do that. I have read that the beasties cannot live in an alkaline environment.

Although I still am suffering, I can now at least eat. Doctors I've been to have failed me and in fact, got me in this situation in the first place with their prescriptions for antibiotics and acid blockers. My fingers are still crossed as I am only on day three of his two-week treatment but at least I can say that I no longer feel like I'm on death's doorstep for most of the day. I look forward to healing completely with Ted's remedy. Thank you so much.

EC: Can you please tell us which of his baking soda remedies you are taking? He has posted quite a few of them! Thanks...

Hi, My Mom and I have been doing some research regarding Candida. We are both convinced that we have this condition since we both fit the symptoms to a tee.

Anyway, my question is, my Mom has been diagnosed with high blood pressure and I've been seeing mixed commentary on the web to whether or not taking the Coconut Oil is good for people who have high blood pressure. Should she continue taking Coconut Oil and will it lower her pressure or make it higher?

Any commentary or personal results are appreciated!! Thanks!

i think that ACV makes you more alkaline when digested because of how you process it, even though it is an acid. I have also heard about applying ACV vaginally for a yeast infection and it didn't work for me. sticking some whole peeled cloves of garlic up there did seem to do something :)
