Removing Tonsil Stones

Has anyone thought about the bad smell possibly being from tonsil stones?? My 10 year old daughter had the worst bb and one day I stumbled across a video on youtube about tonsil stones and how to remove them. (Which I thought was interesting because a few days before that I had coughed and this nasty greenish horrible smelling ball of stuff landed on my hand) So I watched the video. I did exactly what the people did in the video and I got SO much nasty smelling green tonsil stones out of the back of my mouth and my daughters was even worse. Ever since then we remove the stones from time to time brush and rinse with charcoal caps & peroxide and no more bb!! Hope this helps!!!

Hi there, your story sounds like mine, I found out about tonsil stones after I looked in my 10 year old son's mouth after months of bad breath and doctor not being able to help me, and what looked like mini tic tacs (mints) on his tonsil, I was horrified, then googled it and over 4 days have removed all this gunk from both tonsils, bad breath has subsided dramatically. This bought back memories of me coughing up smelly balls of mucus in my 20's. I've had him gargle with salt water and ACV (separately).

It could be your diet. Do you have a problem with constipation or are you overweight?

Maybe taking some B Complex twice a day would help.

I agree with Brian. I neglected to add that when my husband over does it on bread (or excessive carbs) he has an offensive body odor. His breath is not but his BO is.

Because our food is being engineered to last longer, I feel this has an effect on how it is digested and/or assimilated. My husband is also in his early sixties.

Have you had a blood test for Diabetes? Several people that I know emit a foul smell due to Diabetes.

Do you suffer from sinus infections? Post nasal drip may cause a terrible mothball like smell in your breath and stool.

In the meantime, in order to combat the internal smell, you may try Mint Asure and the best mouthwash is a product called Smart Mouth.

I also neglected to mention that when my husband eats garlic it really gives him a GOOD body odor.

Hydrogen Peroxide

It is hard to fully express how grateful I am for the information on this site. The input has saved me from an expensive, grueling dental appointment and likely gum scraping followup, which no one wants to undergo!

After noticing a distinct odor coming from between two rear molars every time I flossed or used a tiny brush to clean the area, I was distraught and called my dentist. They said to come in for an x-ray and exam (spend more money for nothing) and then I would probably have to go see a gum specialist. So I started researching and found that hydrogen peroxide can be very helpful for gum issues, so I bought some and added it to the baking soda concoction I use as mouthwash.

After only two applications, the odor is completely gone! Previously, I would scrub and clean and even put some toothpaste in the space, but the odor would return in less than an hour. Today, I ran the ultimate test and checked it with the tiny brush before even rinsing or cleaning my teeth, right after getting out of bed! No odor!

This is amazing and I am thrilled, so thank you everyone for your wonderful information about this life-changing, CHEAP solution to what is a common problem and can really cramp a person's style.

What I do is fill my water irrigating device with about one part H2O2 3% plus one part water and two tablespoons baking soda, then run it with special attention to that back area and keep the liquid in my mouth for as long as I can (2-3 minutes). Easy peasy, life is good!

Lifelong ailments: Hi, I'm hoping I can get some clarity on my situation. I'm a 25 yr old female, and for as long as I can remember (pretty much all my life) I've suffered from bad breath and constipation. And I truly have no idea why. I have excellent dental hygeine, so I know that's not the culprit. No gingivitis or tonsil stones. I've never had the healthiest diet, but I feel like so many people eat horribly, and still don't have bad breath. Not to mention, I've had it since childhood. My mother also has bad breath, but she has dental issues, and her tongue isn't coated and gross like mine. I think I may have really slow digestion, because I can eat a piece of toast and sleep for 2 hours after. Digestive enzymes and apple cider vinegar don't help. I've tried every vitamin and supplement out there. I just don't understand. Everything I eat and drink stays on my tongue until I brush it again. Especially in the back middle of my tongue. It's pretty much made me a social outcast, and I've never really formed any intimate relationships because of my breath. I feel like doctors are so quick to get people in and out, they don't really look for the root cause. I'm not lactose intolerant or have a gluten allergy. I really don't know what could be causing this, but I'm at the end of my rope. I'm sorry this is so long.

Activated Charcoal

Perhaps there are different varieties of charcoal for cooking. The only ones I know of are NOT suitable for internal use.

Charcoal used for medicine needs to be activated (purified.) I give activated charcoal to my children - 1 capsule a day with 6 ounces of water as needed.

Have you tried a blotting toothbrush? I would recommend trying this daily to ensure clean teeth. It may take a few weeks to see more permanent results from this, but it is a fairly simple process. In addition, I would recommend oil pulling daily and brushing with activated charcoal and coconut oil. All fairly easy additions to your current routines. You can even use the blotting brush on your daily commute if you want to try to include it but don't have the extra time to really dedicate to the full process.

Joanie, a good cleaning does seem appropriate as dietary modifications seem inefficient. Here are some E. C. links to get you started:

https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/gallstones.html

https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/colon-cleansing.html

https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/parasites.html

Not much on Colon Cleanse but there is much info on the web, probably too much as there can be too much variation. All health food stores carry products for "intestinal cleansing" as well as "parasite formula", some combine the two. Do the gallbladder cleanse first. It's a little unpleasant but it works ( I just completed one w/ good results two days ago and feel much better now).

Also, take a high quality multivitamin/mineral/whole food supplement w/ every meal, this will greatly improve metabolism.

I hope this "level one" protocol resolves your issues. Report your progress.

Water
Posted by Franko (Valley Cottage, Us) on 05/02/2012

Halitosis has been a problem for me and I've done various things to control it.

1. I believe a diet with lots of fiber (lots of fruit and veggies, especially greens) is very important. Lots of fiber means the food moves quickly through your system and doesn't have a chance to rot and stink and decay inside you. Especially if you eat meat, you MUST accompany that with a lot of fiber, because meat should be made to pass through you very quickly or it will putrify and rot and stink inside you. Letting meat sit inside your body for too long because you don't get enough fiber with it is not only a cause of odor, but a cause of cancer if that habit goes on for too long. Also, greens are valuable because clorophyll tends to deodorize the system. If your feces smells really bad, you are not eating enough fiber. You should be defecating at least once a day, twice is better. Sufficient fiber can also protect you to some extent from dairy products coating your system and hanging around too long.

2. In the evening before bed I take in a mouthful of hot salt water and swish it as forcefully as possible through my teeth, spit it out. Then I take another mouthful of hot salt water and slip a toothbrush into my full mouth and brush my teeth while holding my lips closed so the salt water filling my mouth doesn't pour out. I then spit out the mouthful of salt water into the sink and refill my mouth with new salt water, slip the brush between my lips again and brush in the same way (while my teeth are completely immersed in the salt water in my full mouth), and spit again. Then when I'm done brushing, I gargle with the hot salt water and brush my tongue with it. In future, I'm also going to start brushing with salt water back in my throat further if I can, having read some of the posts above. Anyway, after all that, I rinse out most of the salt in my mouth with plain water.

3. Every morning and during the day I drink lots of water. That tends to clean not just your mouth, but your whole internal system, especially if you are eating enough fiber, which you can get from fruits and veggies. Bacteria forms in the mouth when it's dry. Breathe through your nose, not your mouth, when possible. If your mouth is closed, it won't dry out and so it will form less bacteria.

4. If I'm absolutely determined to control bad breath, I go 90% vegan and eat mostly raw fruits and veggies, with maybe a little yogurt. A raw vegetarian diet after a couple days will tend to give you sweet, baby breath. It can be hard to eat raw greens, but there's a very easy way to do it: Get a good blender (a Vitamix or Blendtech if you can) pop in a nice ripe banana, some water, and some other fruit, and a generous handful of raw greens, like spinach, kale, or others. Add some chia seeds, which are full of vital omega 3 fatty acids. When you blend it all, and taste the smoothie, you won't taste the greens, but mostly just the delicious sweet fruit. It makes a great superhealthy smoothie. One can also get one of the green powder products and add some of that to the fruit and greens in the blender. Google "raw family" on the internet, and check out the raw family website about a family that cured itself of all sorts of diseases by a green-smoothie raw diet. There is also a site called "green smoothie girl. "

5. Just because your mouth tastes funny or bad to you, it doesn't necessarily mean you have bad breath. You might, but might not. I tested it once, at a moment when I was sure I had bad breath, and my friend said, no, not at all, you don't. I breathed right on his nose. That day, I had drunk a lot of fluids but eaten nothing.

I'm going to add a couple of methods to my toolkit: using Apple Cider Vinigar as a gargle and drinking a teaspoon of ACV or whatever the right amount is with some water. Also, I'm going to start taking acidophilus and clorophyll liquid or caps.

Over the Counter

Hi everyone. I suffered from halitosis all my life and totally sympathize with all of you. My halitosis was chronic but my dentist repeatedly told me my teeth were great and there were no problems (I'm 23 and only have one filling). After much online research, I realized the sad fact that some people simply are born with more bacteria on the back of the tongue and regular brushing, flossing and using various mouthwashes is a temporary cover-up and fails to deal with the VSC's on the back of the tongue. I used to use Retardex from Boots which is effective for a few hours. However, it is not a permanent solution for someone with a chronic condition (and hellishly expensive). I now use Profresh which has completely eliminated my problem: read the independent laboratory report and the white paper research. This product is patented in the US which means that no other company can manufacture a product that contains the same ingredients that are 99.9% effective against halitosis. I won't babble on about how the product works etc as you can see for yourself on the website.

Although my doctor and dentist are fantastic, unfortunately professionals are light years behind when it comes to halitosis. My doctor once told me to brush my tongue with listerine!!!! I couldn't believe it. Didn't he know I'd spent hundreds of pounds on products and had that morning spent no less an hour and 15 mins obsessively brushing, scraping, flossing, swilling etc etc etc. That's all a thing of the past now thank goodness. Thanks to this product I now have fresh breath 24 hours a day. I hope this info helps but I must stress that this product is only effective for those who have chronic halitosis which is not attributable to sinus problems, post-nasal drip etc. This will only work for those where halitosis originates from the mouth, despite having no significant dental problems. Unfortunately, some of us are just born producing more bacteria than others.

In terms of cost, I used to spend £30-£40 a week on Retardex products (hard to believe I know). A bottle of mouthwash was around £7 ish but I used to go through it very quickly. With Profresh I buy it in bulk. I get 13 bottles each lasting 17 days each, twice a year. I usually pay around £120 but Profresh is now shipped from London instead of the States which will eliminate pesky shipping charges the next time I order. So I would say you can expect to pay £200 a year for your supplies (to me it's like liquid gold so price is irrelevant). I would love to hear from someone that they had cured their problem because of this post so please report back with any success stories. You're probably skeptical (like I was) but I guarantee that if you have the same type of halitosis like me it will work. Please be aware folks that when people that say bad breath sufferers have poor oral hygiene they couldn't be more wrong! In fact, we probably have better oral habits than most since we're constantly brushing etc.

Also, don't listen to those who will cockily reply 'well brush your teeth' or 'chew gum or suck on a mint'. As we long-term sufferers know, such measures are useless and sometimes sugary mints can make our breath worse! I appreciate it will be difficult for those with normal breath to understand this as they simply brush their twice once and they have fresh breath all day. But just remember that for others, fresh breath is something that they can only dream of. Good luck everyone. Laura

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

I've been using GSE for 2 weeks now, in the morning after I brush my teeth I add to toothbrush and brush my tongue, then after lunch I gargle with HP then brush my tongue with the GSE to get the foam off. I notice every time I use the GSE I get a mild frontal headache. I heard so many good things about GSE and no negative side effects. Although I have not change my diet.. I still eat carbs and sugar but drink lots of water, veggies and fruit. Do you think the GSE is causing the headaches?.... never had them before.

Hi Yusuf. The brown "slimy" substance that you found in the ACV is called "the mother", and you don't have to worry about it, it's actually the most nutritious part of ACV.

Also, keep a small dark bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide in the staff bathroom at work. Gargle with it and drip some down your nostrils, too. This should work for you in short order. Keep the faith.

I make my own Colloidal Silver and my friends husband had a very bad case of halitosis. I gave him a bottle about eight years ago and he brushed his teeth with it and swallowed an ounce every day. They have bought their own machine since then and he hasn't had it since. Also, he hasn't turned silver like some of the talk shows said he would.

Hi Lisa, yeah I know what you mean. I was a very social person but when this happened I pulled away from people and my relationship suffered because I pulled away. I kept asking if you smell anything let me know but he kept saying no he did smell anything.... It was funny how everybody and their mother was smelling it but not my mate and/or my family... WEIRD! Sometimes I can still smell the bb or sulfur smell but only when I eat meat and dairy... So I try not to eat it only when I know I'm not going to be around anybody for a couple of days. I drink lots of water. I also try chewing on grapefruit/lemon rinds... That too is helping. Sometimes when you think the smell is gone and you go around people or in a crowd the person near you tends to frown or make a face like something smells... Then it makes you self conscious again... I will continue to try whatever natural remedy to get rid of this problem that almost caused me to commit suicide and kept me depressed for a long time. I want my life back!!

You might try a good probiotic. Bad breath comes from bad bacteria in your gut. Put in good bacteria, and your breath should be much better. Always try to get to the source of the problem.

Don't use a spoon as a tongue scraper. You're probably pressing down too hard, hence the bleeding. Buy an Orabrush tongue scrubber then use a real tongue scraper. They're really cheap. I also use Therabreath toothpaste and mouthwash everyday, which helps a lot. I know this because my boyfriend, all of the sudden one day, developed mothball breath and after he started using the Therabreath every day, it went away! Alas, for me, I still notice I have Mothball breath sometimes. I have actually figured out where some of it is in my mouth. I now floss everyday and when I floss I use a clean section of the floss for every tooth so I am not spreading bacteria in my mouth (yes, that's a lot of floss everyday :).

Very Important: I smell the floss after I floss between each tooth. This way I can locate the source of the odor. When I find it, I floss between those 2 teeth over and over (usually only takes 3 or 4 times) until the smell is gone, then I brush. I often smell the mothball odor between the last 2 molars on the right side of the back of my mouth. I have healthy gums and have never had a cavity, so that's not the problem. But I do have constant post nasal drip and I also take medication (not for high blood pressure) that causes dry mouth. My dental hygienist said that the mucous is probably settling between those 2 teeth because of the proximity to my nasal cavity. But why don't I get the smell between the last 2 molars on the other side of mouth? Dry mouth lets the anaerobic bacteria live and feast on the proteins in my mouth, namely the mucous. All dairy products are causes for bad breath too. I even went so far as to get my tonsils removed because of the tonsiliths (tonsil stones). Even though I didn't suffer from sore throats, apparently the insurance company covered it because Halitosis is a medically necessary reason. Quitting smoking also made a big difference, and, again, I have really seen a huge difference since I have been using the Therabreath products, but still, not complete relief.

I have been reading all of the posts about the Hydrogen Peroxide and I'm all over it!! I just gargled for the first time and I can't wait to see how good my morning breath will be. I can't wait to get to the store tomorrow to buy some "food grade" HP, whatever the hell that is J. I think I'm also going to buy some peppermint oil, charcoal pills and acidophilus. If that doesn't work, it's back to the drawing board. Actually, maybe I'll try them one at a time so I'll know which one is working.

UPDATE - 1/5/12 IT WORKS!!!! OMG, Hydrogen Peroxide REALLY WORKS!!! I tried 3% regular hydrogen peroxide (I have no idea what "food grade" is and neither did my pharmacist or my dentist) mixed with equal parts water. It didn't taste great (it doesn't taste horrible either) so I added some peppermint oil. It really freaking' works!!

In my 12/17/11 post I talked about flossing everyday and smelling the floss after each section and always smelling the mothball smell between the last 2 molars in my mouth. Well, since I started the HP on 12/17/11, I have not smelled the mothball odor in mouth again!! I have also felt like my breath has been fresher. My mouth tastes better; rather it doesn't taste like anything. You definitely need to scrape your tongue after you gargle with the HP though, as there is foam. I also gargle with the Therabreath mouthwash after the HP to help get rid of the foam in the other parts of my mouth. I haven't even been flossing every day, but when I do, no more mothball smell. I cannot express how much better I feel. I used to carry a little bottle of Therabreath in my purse, but now it's HP. Try it!! What have you got to lose?

Bad breath: the hydrogen peroxide really works. I always felt like the smell was coming from deep down in my stomach especially because I have very clean white teeth and gums. Almost instantly the smell went away just by gargling the peroxide. Afterwards I tried to isolate whether it was the peroxide or some other changes I have made and came to the conclusion that it is definitely the mouthwash. The only thing is that I do not dilute it in water.

Just a suggestion: try mixing a couple of tablespoons of baking soda in a glass of water and drinking it down! Don't gargle, just drink it. I had chronic bb for 20 years and was SO desperate. 3 dentists said it wasn't my teeth, 2 periodontists said it wasn't my gums, one of them said he believed it was a gastric problem.

Then saw 3 Gastroenterologists and had upper gi and endoscopies with no resolution. Tried the baking soda and as soon as I woke up the next morning, I could tell the smell was gone, which has since been confirmed by a coworker and my husband kissed me the other day like he hasn't in years!

Tongue Scrape

I have had a severe reflex diseas for years which resulted in me getting a very bad breath. Choosing gum only helps if you suffer bad breath from eating certain foods like garlic or onion so you can guess how much I suffered over the years. I have went to many different doctors and they couldn't even agree whether or not I had thrush on my tongue. After spending hundreds of dollars on mouthwashes and prescription pills that didn't work, here's the list of what actually helped me. By the way, the prescription for curing thrush (the ones that dissolves in your mouth) did nothing at all for me. You may want to find your own way of doing theses items in order, for example brushing my teeth using the regular toothpaste after salt treatment actually brught the whiteness back to my tongue.

1. First, brush and flush, use tongue scaper to clean your teeth.
2. Use Sesame Oil for Oil pulling.
3. Use salt
4. Use special mouthwash called Chlordioxine Glugonate (not sure of the spelling) which you can get from your dentist. This may cause discoration on your teeth so consult your doctor first.
5. Use baking soda to try and cut down on stain on teeth from the mouthwash and proxide later.

I hope this helps and don't forget to go see your doctor about the reflex problem.
This seemed to help me more than anything.

I knew I had halitosis for so many years and God knows how much I have suffered because of this humiliating disease. I lost the girl I loved so much. I couldn't talk in front of people. I could sense based on people's reaction whenever I talk that my breath stinks as far as 10 feet away. I could hardly breath whenever I ride in a car with someone else because the malodor is there even if I don't talk (proof of my chronic condition - the odor comes not only from the mouth but from the nostril also). My job as an executive secretary involves a lot of talking to people, especially my bosses. Because of my stinking breath, I couldnt perform my job well, and the thought resigning has been hanging 'round my mind. I thought it's better to hide in the mountains where I can breath freely than to stay in the city where I feel I had no freedom to breathe.

I tried all kinds of toothpaste, mints, gums, mouthwashes, lemons, ginger, tea, water therapy, probiotics, dentist, EENT doctor, friends whom I knew had halitosis in the past, but nothing and no one was able to help. But thanks be to GOD, He led me to this site!!! Hydrogen Peroxide is His answer to my prayer for healing.

Knowing the severity of my condition, I started using HP 6% instead of 3% (1 tablespoon HP diluted with 5 tablespoon of water). My first time use was in the evening of April 24, 2009. I sensed how effective it was because the following morning, the foul odor is gone like magic! I intend to continue using it twice a day for a month, then will see if I can stop completely afterwards.

I can't thank you enough for this site. God has given me new life thru you. Thank YOU!! Thank GOD!!!

I have discovered 2 healthy things my dogs love for treats. Apples and cheese. I cut up a couple apples in small chunks (with peel on) and cut up some cheddar cheese slices (small, but long in length). I give them apples a couple times a day for health benefits (heart, joint inflamation, cleans the teeth..and good breath!) I also give them a very small slice of cheese as bedtime snack.(make the slice long enough that they have to chew it a second and don't immediately swallow it, so it will coat the teeth.) The cheese has been proven to reduce tartar build up. How easy is that? Give yourself these treats too..same benefits!

Bad Breath Caused By Milk:

I suffered from bad breath for as long as i can remember. But never knew why and what was the cause until recently. A few days ago, I started cleaning my colon. While on it I had to follow a strict diet for almost 7 days. I could only eat fruits and vegetables and nothing else. During that time that's when I noticed that my breath was no longer smelling.

You see, I used to eat cereal with milk every morning or at least every other day. Soon after I stopped drinking Milk for about 7 days, the smell went away. Now I eat everything else except milk. The Bad Breath never came back. It's been almost 2 months now. Having bad breath was terrible. It affected every relationship and friendship I had even with my son. I always had a pack of gum in my packet. Today I enjoying my new life.

I am encouraged by the information on this site as I have suffered from CHRONIC bad breath for over 10 years now. I am almost afraid to put too much hope into the hydrogen peroxide remedy as everything else I have tried has ultimately failed over time. I have had some success with commercial remedies, however, this is always short lived - it is as though my mouth becomes accustomed to the active ingredients and the effectiveness wears off. I would be interested in hearing if people with CHRONIC bad breath have had long term success using hydrogen peroxide. Many thanks!

Hi all... I've had severe halitosis for over 24 years, it's such a crippling and alienating condition to suffer from, like everyone with this ailment, I've suffered my fair share of humiliation and embarrassment, and because of it I've tried effortlessly to find a cure by seeking answers from many 7 dentists, 4 ENTs, 3 Gastroenterologists and over 20 GPs and the list goes on and none were able to help me or even pinpoint the cause of it, they were all puzzled and basically gave up! Tried all the mouthwashes and expensive treatments out there, went on various diets and detoxes, tried endless antibiotics but with no avail!

I tried Hydrogen Peroxide and ACV 3 years ago when I stumbled on this website and guess what? It actually worked! But only temporarily!! The bad breath didn't completely diminish but it improved by probably 90% so at that time I was probably the happiest person on earth because I truly believed that I was finally being cured and that in few more days or weeks the bb will completely disappear! But to my disappointed the bb never really disappeared but instead it came back and neither HP nor ACV worked on me again. It's like the bacteria in my mouth or gut - or wherever it's hiding - had become immune to it. So I was so disappointed and my hopes and dreams were shattered once again!

What I want to know from all of the people who have tried HP and ACV and had positive results with it, whether their cure was short term or they were actually completely cured and bb never returned?

I would also appreciate any suggestions or other cures that might help me with my condition as it's ruining my life.

Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Hopeless And Discouraged (New York, US) on 03/28/2015

Desperation and embarrassment let me to searching. I don't know where my father got his information from but for years now I have heard him talking about peroxide as an effective rinse for bad breath. I really did not pay much attention to him even though I'm a nurse and I use peroxide all the time as antibacterial.

This afternoon I was sitting and talking to a few colleagues and the one I was closer to started saying "what is that smell, it smells like a dead rat in here". Having had bad breath for years I immidiately got suspicious. It's like when people sitting next to you all of sudden start fidgeting and looking around and you know next out comes the gum they offer you. Anyone with bad breath history know what I'm talking about. So I looked in her direction and continued talking and she repeated the same thing. Anyway I finshes my talking a little sooner than I wanted to and left together with one other colleague. I went back in and noticed one turned her head away when she saw me and the same colleague was just finishing the same humiliating sentence that she had said before.

I tried to convince myself to give her permission to make me feel bad but she won. I was devastated. I then decided to start looking into peroxide as a mouthwash and I stumbled accross this site.

I have used several different mouthwashes over the years Some were somewhat effective. I never really kept using them for a long time for I'm afraid that long term use of them may cause cancer. This morning, several hours before my humiliation, I used Tom of Maines because it claims to be natural. I have no choice now but to use peroxide and I will definitely do try it and I hope my halitosis and my days of bad humiliation are OVER.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THIS SITE EITHER BY SHARING THEIR STORIES OR BY PROVIDING SOME KIND OF HELP!
