Rheumatism and osteoarthritis can be caused by a hidden virus. The best-known natural antiviral and antibiotic agents are contained in garlic and vitamin C. Garlic contains a biologically active compound called allicin. This sulfur alloy is activated when whole fresh garlic is cut, crushed, or chewed. Clinical studies of garlic's antibacterial properties have found it to be “effective against a variety of bacteria, including Streptococcus, Salmonella enteritidis, and Staphylococcus aureus, and even some known to be resistant to antibiotics.” A crude extract of garlic can be more effective that most antibiotics. Stephen T' Sinatra, M.D., in his book Optimum Health speaks about garlic's ability to reduce swelling through its anti-inflammatory effects.
Garlic has also been proven to be beneficial for osteoarthritis and gout. Onion, a cousin to garlic, has similar effects, although to a lesser extent.' A combination of herbs and plants such as yellow dock, yucca, black walnut leaves, wormwood, and fenugreek seed are also effective in clearing out the damage done by certain viruses.
