I read about cold showers on your site a few months ago. Since then whenever an anxiety attack hits me, I jump into a cold shower and stay there for about 5 minutes until I warm up. I am amazed at how fast it works to diminish anxiety. It must correct brain chemistry.

I have found that taking B complex vitamins work very well for depression and anxiety. Also repeating positive affirmations like "I am healing" while imagining a white light covering your entire body has worked very well for me! Much peace to you all!!

I started taking cold showers after I developed panic disorder, general anxiety disorder, and moderate depression. Cold showers have been the best distraction out of any other distraction to get a panic attack to go away. It feels so good when I take a cold shower that it is like an addiction to me. I feel instant gratification both physically and mentally when I take cold showers. They our the best to get rid of negative thoughts, minor physical pains from within the body, fear from a panic attack, and anger. At first I tense my muscles together so I can get use to it and then I let them untense and let the water flow and it feels so great. Also I feel that my body is working better and I am a lot more alert and awake. I always feel like I am regenerated afterwards no matter how much I am going through. It is an intense body high. I would recommend this to anyone who suffers from anxiety, depression, or addiction problems. Remember when you take any of these three away you need to replace them with something else and cold showers is a great safe alternative that works wonders!

Chia Oil

Hi Pacific Coast Lady - Good luck on weaning off the clonazepam. I don't know if I'm allowed to name the brand here, but if you google "organic edible chia seed oil artisan cold pressed" the brand I'm using will come right up! I've found that the chia seeds also help my anxiety, but I need to take a lot more than just a teaspoon a day - I take 2 teaspoons 3X a day or even 1 tablespoon 3X a day. Someone at the company I bought the chia oil from told me that 1 tablespoon of the oil = 3 tablespoons of the seeds. The seeds also do help with my anxiety/hyperthyroid symptoms, but I do think the oil is even more powerful. You could take both if you need to. When I take 1 teaspoon of the oil 3X a day, I don't feel the need to also take the seeds, I already feel almost too calm doing that. Good luck! Please post back and let us know if it works for you!

This reply is a lil late since I don't receive all comments, nor am I on this site each day. The question is regarding taking SERPINA with high blood pressure. As far as I know it is safe, however keep in mind that this Serpina was originally produced to lower blood pressure in 1934. I did see it on line and at Amazon for sale. It does help with Insomnia, mental illness, Anxiety, and much more. Interacts with cold flu medicine, antipsychotic medications. Sorry I was late but I forgot about checking fir reply's. Thank you. L-theanine 800mg helps, mulungu 500mg helps (most people never heard of) psychedelic mushrooms, ketamine may help. What helps you when you must withdraw (taper off Benzo addiction)?

The reason for anxiety is because the intestinal tract does not have enough good bacteria to create the B12 or serotonin needed to calm the nervous system. Taking probiotics will encourage good bacteria in the intestinal tract. Taking supplements or drugs are a temporary fix but they will work in an emergency situation. A good film to watch is: The Gut; Our Second Brain. It explains it perfectly.

I've found shallow breathing to pretty much make my anxiety and panic attacks nonexistent pretty much overnight. I used to take deep breaths thinking it would help, but I found them to actually make things worse. Now I take slow, shallow breaths and can finally do things like drink coffee again without any real anxiety. I haven't tried all the exercises, but more information on this theory can be found by looking up the Buteyko breathing method.

My Indian Guru in the Middle East told me that I should try to breathe through my legs!! No kidding.

He was an Ayurvedic practitioner and so much of what he suggested was entirely novel to me.

This of course, is to try to steer people away from shallow/lazy breathing! Not getting one's fair share of the world's limited supply of Oxygen.

I may talk more about him in a future posting: watch this space!

I suffer from depression and anxiety (panic attacks), and sought the advice of a nutritionist recently when my anxiety attacks worsened over the winter. She highly recommended Vitamin D-3 in the liquid form. 10,000 IU each morning (or roughly 5 drops). I noticed an immediate change! No side effects whatsoever. No extreme changes but it just made me feel a lot more leveled out, more balanced and normal. Noticeably so.

I would highly suggest this for anyone experiencing anxiety or depression, especially in the winter months or if you work indoors all day. (Make sure it's Vitamin D-3, not D-2). L-Theanine is also nice to supplement this for more immediate relief of anxiety attacks.

Hello again Tim. I was just basing my reply on personal experience & what information I gathered from multiple sources. Glandulars are certainly another possibility for restoring the adrenals but they did me very little good.

Once I switched to the bio-identical hydo-cortisone then things started to get better but it has happened slowly. I'm still battling to get my adrenals back in order even though I started treating them last July(2013).

I started out a low dose though to be safe & worked my way up to 40mg daily. I've been on that dosage for months now but my adrenals still aren't back to good functioning. I do have a multitude of other health issues going on so it's not just about the adrenals for me.

The main point in my previous post was to inform people to make sure the adrenals are in proper working order before going on Rhodiola for anxiety & panic attacks. The adrenals not working properly will only make matters worse supplementing with rhodiola. If a person doesn't get them under control then the supplement is a waste & will even make them worse. The BP tests that I mentioned are very reliable to check for adrenal problems at home.

My doctors told me numerous times that I didn't have any adrenal problems. I knew better from the stress & cares of life getting to me & just how I felt. I know others on this board are going through the same thing with doctors so I wanted to let them know there's an at home way to check the adrenal glands without medical evaluation from doctors.

BTW, you're right Tim! Hormones are going to play a major role here as well. I have thyroid issues which is another precursor to hormone problems. My hormones are all out of whack. I have absolutely no sex drive to go along with numerous other hormonal issues as well Thanks!

I had some serious anxiety, stomach problems and raised blood pressure going on last week…I didn't know what it was so went into the Dr. who said it was anxiety and gave me a Rx for Lexapro and Zantac… I knew there was an underlying cause and hit the computer for hrs….I found articles on pH balancing and after testing my pH w/ pH strips I saw that it was so Acidic! I began an alkaline diet… It took a few days, but as of right now I feel back to my old self and very little anxiety. Such a relief. It may not help everyone, but it's worth a try and if it does, it's a cheap fix! Good luck!

Been taking rhodiola for a week 1 tablet mid day with main meal and find that's I can't keep awake about an hour late an hour later. Just doze for about 10 15 minutes I suffer from anxiety panic and agoraphobia and am 90 years old. Pretty fit apart from the above.Cant visit the dr because of the agoraphobia. Didn't usually feel so tired after dinner have seen othe instructions for taking rhodiola on an empty stomach.Also I am bored out of my mind at this point of the day. Any advice please. Thank you

Mary, I have tried Rhodiola for anxiety and did not see any change. I do have a thought about the whole anxiety, difficulty walking issue that you may want to explore with a therapeutic massage therapist. My therapist told me that some of my muscles were out of balance, meaning one was too tight and the other too loose. It pulls the body out of balance. In my case I was hunched over, unable to straighten up fully when the attacks were at their worst. I suspect when we are out of "true" like this, it may put pressure on certain glands and cause anxiety. I am now working to unlock those tight muscles as well as do more muscle work to stay balanced.

Mary: Regular food does not provide enough nutrition for the tissues. Cells send signals to the brain via stress hormones. Cooking denatures many nutrients like B-6. B-6 activates B-1 and B-2. Conventionally grown foods lack special substances like humic/fulvic acids and xeronines. Raw food has enzymes. Organic and grass fed foods have more trace minerals. The body requires 80% carbs, 5%fiber, both insoluable and soluable, 5% oils by weight, and 10% protein. The carbs are for fuel. Raw sugar, from whole cane, honey, and fruit is superior to cooked starches. Oils are for the cellular walls. The proper ratio of omega 3-6-9 is 2-3-5. Half of the oil is saturated. Anxiety- Cure- Soaked Chia Seeds

Preparation- Soak 2 table spoons chia seeds in any beverage for 10-15 minutes, can be longer. Drink 3 x morning, noon, and night. Produces awesome calm in all situations, no matter where you are or what you are doing, job interviews, social situations, work. Just start loving life. Might have something to do with an actually assimable plant based form of L-tryphtophan with all it's naturally occuring co-factors? You can try it in water, or unsweetened ice-tea, or natural lemonade with Apple Cider Vinegar and stevia and lemon juice and water. You'll need to put it in a shaker cup or a bottle with cap that you can vigorously shake from time to time while they are soaking. Enjoy

I have used EFT to cure my anxiety, fears, sadnesses, and all types of pain too numerous to mention. It's such an easy technique to learn and use you can try it for almost any issue. If you don't get results there are plenty of other energy healing modalities that will be helpful. What has helped me in the past for "nerves" is an old-fashioned help aid for woman known as Lydia Pinkham Tablets!

It didn't help me until 2 weeks of taking it so don't give up and continue to take the tablets everyday as directed. It got to the point of even if I tried to be nervous I couldn't get nervous for nothing!

Order them at your drug store or buy them on-line. (I am not affiliated with this product). I've only used the product. Brought to my attention by a friend of the family.

There is no right or wrong way to meditate. So take what other people give you and find your own way. I have carved out a small corner in one of the rooms in my house as my meditation corner. I keep my stuff there and usually meditate in the same place every day - although I will meditate in other rooms or outside if I feel called to do so. I don't really need much - I have a pillow to sit on, a candle that I light, my journal and occassionally I use lavendar oil. I also usually set a timer so I know how long I've meditated for. I light my candle, open my journal to a fresh page, and sit in a cross legged position, upright, with a straight and long spine. I do maybe 5-10 deep belly breaths... First focusing on my 3rd eye (the space in between your eyebrows), then focusing on the rising the breath up from my belly to my chest. Then I release the breath and just breath normally. And I just sit there. If a thought comes in, I don't judge it, I don't fight it - I just let it be. I let everything be - my thoughts, my breath, etc. In most of our lives we do the exact opposite - we are never happy just being... We are always trying to strive for me, be different, change and control things, etc. So in meditation I focus on just being. In the beginning its hard. I would keep my journal handy bc inadvertantly I would run through list after list of things I needed to do or remember. So I would write it down during meditation so I could get it out of my head. I started off with 10 mins once a day and literally it was 10 mins of to do lists. But I let it be. And eventually made my way up to 20 mins twice a day. I started noticing the to do lists would fade and I would just be sitting there enjoying being in the present moment, when all of a sudden it was 20 mins later.

The theory is that the more stillness you can bring to your mind through consistant meditation, the more still it will become... Sort of like working out a muscle. Also the more you connect with your spirit, higher self, the Divine, etc - the more you attract good things and the higher emotions into your life... Rather than lettting the mind and ego run rampant with lower emotions and thinking bad things. I will also sometimes ask "what do I need to know" and see what messages I get. Or sometimes I will do visualizations of living life without anxiety. I always end my meditation with prayer - gratitude first, and then what I need to help me serve other people.

I have tried MANY things for anxiety - and this has hands down been the most important practice in my arsenal. I can only hope that it does for you what it has done for me. Please feel free to reply back with any questions - I would love to help in any way I can.

Tums is just baking soda and aspirin. It may be cheaper and healthier for you to just take baking soda. I started taking baking soda daily to get rid of a cold, and I started to notice my anxiety and panic attacks would go away within ten to twenty minutes of drinking baking soda. So I started looking online for others who have experienced the same thing. Baking soda seems to be very helpful in reducing or eliminating them. Including magnesium and potassium in your regimen helps even more. So it makes total sense to me that a mineral supplement, and "green pills" which are alkalizing just like baking soda, helps a lot.
