Sinus Infection

I had covid last week, rather mild, but my sinuses took a beating. I have always struggled with dry and inflamed sinuses and will usually get an infection yearly. Well I tried getting into the local clinics to get an antibiotic. No luck. For 4 days I tried and they are so overwhelmed that the wait is 4-5 hrs if you can even get registered. So sitting in the parking lot this morning I came across your website. I went to the store and bought some coconut oil and went home and started applying it in my nostrils and using it in my neti pot. It is evening now and I am in bed and I feel wonderful. I have no pain. I have no congestion. And best of all, I can smell and taste my food again. I am amazed that this happened in less than 12 hrs and I dont need and antibiotic or prednisone. I am going to continue using the oil daily in hopes of not needing the Afrin any longer. Thank you so much! Feel free to use this as a review.

I've been dealing with allergies and poor sinuses since 2005. The nasal dryness was as bad as it gets, I was miserable day in and out. I've seen numerous doctors, allergy specialists, ENT doctors and on and on. I was constantly sick..........my latest MRI of my sinus cavities showed an infection deep down at the bottom of the sinuses, which was worse at night and while laying down.

About a week ago I was reading about the benefits of coconut oil and decided to take a few drops and put it deep into my nostrils. I also mix a bit in my netti pot with warm water.

So, I'm using steam, coconut oil drops and the netti pot with warm water and some oil. The improvement has been nothing short of amazing. I even cancelled a doctor appointment I had scheduled for tomorrow.

I'm a new guy of late, my mood is a lot better, and I'm not obsessing over my nasal issues any more. I strongly recommend everyone try this remedy, it's been nothing short of amazing.

Blood Pressure

I think it's more complicated than using/not using coconut oil. Your medication increases potassium. If you eat foods with lots of potassium it may cause an imbalance. Too much salt or too much potassium could have you swinging with your BP, same with cholesterol, as you have noticed. https://www.getroman.com/health-guide/losartan-and-bananas/ Since medication is more powerful than food the BP pendulum will swing much further than with just food. Then the type of coconut oil you use is important. "Although heated coconut oil and indeed lots of other oil has been found to increase the level of blood pressure, virgin coconut oil, however, has been found to effectively lower the level of cholesterol, which is a risk factor to high blood pressure." https://www.greenworldfriends.com/coconut-oil-and-high-blood-pressure-does-coconut-oil-help/ Personally, I just use a good olive oil and occasionally a little Kerry butter, and only lean poultry, fish. I had dropped coconut oil just because it didn't go well with what I cooked. Of course, you have to have a good diet, with lots of vegetables and some fruit. So far, my BP has been good lately and refused meds when it was somewhat high a few years ago.

The Chinese recommend Hawthorn for High Blood Pressure but you didn't hear that from me. Schuss, keep it a secret.

Systolic BP (the higher number) is an indication of acute stress. If coconut oil or caprylic acid is causing your systolic to go up it is likely due to some form of activity going on in the body that requires your heart to pump harder...(systolic is when the heat beats, diastolic is when the heart is at rest). If you are on medications you cannot tell what will cause issues. All other substances taken into the body are potential issues. Coconut oil is a powerful source of health promoting fats and phyto-chemicals that can react with your BP meds, so consider the question "why is my BP high in the first place?" BP medication treats symptoms NOT causes...

Have you heard of eating celery and celery seeds at every meal? That is a well known Chinese food medicine remedy for High BP. Even soldiers in Iraq: smokers, drinking heavily, under daily high pressure combat stress were able to get the BP back down to normal by eating celery and celery seeds with each meal. When they all started to stop the BP meds the officers (doctors) put a gag order on them all to stop it and stop talking about it. I know a Sargent who got himself and all his guys off the meds.

Sounds strange, I know, because in western medicine you are told to avoid all salt and salty foods. The proof is in the doing and seeing.

My blood pressure has been going up over the last 8 years or so...got quite bad about 4 years back, so they put me on losartan. Still, it would sometimes be all over the place -- as high as 175/92 and as low as 126/74. And most times at the docs it would be high, then 20 points lower later that night at home. I mentioned this to a friend and he said his blood pressure got into the HUNDREDS, until he STOPPED taking coconut oil. So I did the same, and it dropped down to an average 135/80 or so, which is fine for someone in their 60's. Until tonight -- I just took it and it came back 162/74! And what have I been taking again, but in smaller amounts -- caprylic acid (for candida), which is made from coconut oil! I'll stop it right away, go back to olive oil and will try to remember to post back again in a few weeks. Anyway, in my case -- and that of a good friend -- coconut oil RAISES our blood pressure.

I don't eat a teaspoon or tablespoon at one time in my mouth. I do however use a heaping tablespoon when scrambling my eggs, and I use it in salad dressing, if I bake, use it on toast, etc. I also use it on my body, my lips instead of chap stick. I use it on my hair for moisturizing treatment as well. I have never had the scratchy throat issue or nausea.

No...too many serious errors in your Biochemistry and Physiology info. Stop, just stop, until you have your facts straight. Bad info is worse than anything for people, it makes everyone who seeks alternative information on treatment options look uneducated...go back, read your post and research MCT, Glycogen, fatty acid storage etc. and never repeat things you've heard people say unless you have read up on it from reliable sources of information.

Insomnia

I've googled for this but I haven't found any thing about using coconut oil externally and sleeping better. Since I hit full blown menopause a couple of years ago getting a good night's sleep has been a problem. I've had, at times, difficulty getting to sleep and staying asleep. Quite by accident I noticed that on the nights I used coconut oil to moisturize my leg, feet, hands, and arms I would fall asleep within 20 minutes instead of my hour or more of tossing and turning. I tested using it and not using it and consistently the nights I used it I fell asleep effortlessly. So, one night when I had something I was worrying about I woke up at 4:00 in the morning and was unable to go back to sleep. I thought to myself, well why not try rubbing on some coconut oil. I couldn't believe it when I found myself waking up at 7:00 fully refreshed. Like I said, I haven't seen this anywhere else on the internet so I hope it helps someone else.

In light of the Coronavirus situation and coconut oil's anti-viral capabilities, I figure it can't hurt. I take it orally and use it topically during regular flu season. I also take turmeric orally for the same anti-viral use. Zinc at first indication of any flu symptoms (ie sensitive uvula, or warm eyes...) or upon exposure to others indicating they are symptomatic seems to stop sickness before it takes hold.

I was on a low carb diet years ago. Was also consuming about 2 tablespoons of coconut oil per day in coffee, just because of reading about benefits. One day I had a BM that looked liked a bunch of strings of string cheese. Same color too. Looked it up online. It was a yeast kill-off. So coconut oiled worked for me, though it was unintended and did freak me out a bit. Side note though, the CO did cause me to often wake up at night with a very rapid heart rate. I figured out over time it was from the CO, so I haven't used it since.

To Bill - (Philippines)

You state many times about drinking coffee. This is acidic, caffeinated coffee? The reason why I ask is this didn't interfere with your ability to alkalize? I can't seem to give up the darn coffee!

Can I ask all what you used to rid Candida? One thing that keeps confusing me is that I read the skin needs to be acid but many things you suggest for skin are alkaline. So if I am using baking soda for skin or bathing in it, will it cause issues with the changing skin PH?

Also I read your book a while ago. I can't do the protocol because it appears that all forms of Vitamin C make my Candida worse. I'm 48 and believe I've had this sense birth. Then explosive symptoms after they gave me antibiotics for ear infections over a period of 3 years.

Thanks for your input!

I'll be 68 soon. I use coconut oil for everything. I take a heaping teaspoon every morning.

I have horrible sinus issues and started putting a dab up each nostril sinusitis. GONE.

I use it as lotion and female hygiene for me and it does wonders. I use it for everything in moderation, of course. I buy the best coconut oil I can find. For me, it is truly a miracle oil. We're all different, what works for one may not for another but I'd bet there are many many who could benefit from coconut oil.

I use coconut milk in my smoothies.

If your hair is thinning try coconut oil and castor oil a couple of times a week I leave it on all nite. Love it

Hi Tegan,

Coconut oil is very heat stable. I am very comfortable using it to shallow fry eggs, and occasionally deep frying. I also will (only) use ghee or grass fed lard as these provide health benefits and are heat stable.

Whichever detox you choose to start the children on, my advice to minimise detox effects is to start on much lower dose than is recommended. You could actually start with a pinch of a powder or a smidge of a liquid, keep that going for four days, then increase, gently, slowly. You are less likely to experience negative reactions if you go this way. Keep reading and researching for your family's health, may I suggest for your further research the turpentine castor oil protocol specifically for autism.

Many blessings on your good health journey.

Hello,

I have 2 children one 5 one 3 one more moderately autistic the younger seems less if that makes any sense. I need help there is so much info out here I really believe that most of what causes autism is the overload of toxins produced by bad bacteria, outside, the fake food that we are given. I want to start some detoxifying programs but I'm afraid of the detox side effects I just want something that is safe. I keep hearing about cilantro, garlic, turmeric but how do I get my little ones to eat this when all they want is oatmeal and nuggets and French fries. Unfortunately my first born would not eat solids for a long time she now does but its all about texture she wants things that crunch and how can I give them these things. Can I somehow use it in the oil I cook their food in switch to virgin coconut oil to cook their food is that the same benefit as ingesting it..probably not. Looking for guidance as where to start.Thank you.

Inflammation in Digestive System
Posted by Robert (Lafayette, Louisiana, Usa) on 05/30/2017

Actually I have battled this same issue (inflammation in the digestive system) twice not over several years with two different methods but will limit this remedy to my experiences with coconut oil.

I am a typical late 50's guy that eats too much bad stuff, about 40 pounds overweight (doesn't drink or smoke) and as time goes, it catches up with you! Since I was a child I have battled Asthma and horrific allergies with their effects on the body and mind. A couple of years back, I discovered caffeine was a huge issue within the lower intestine and it let me know about it 48 hours after consumption! I have drank countless sodas over the years and cut them back to 1 every 10 days. When I did this, no side effects, however... the real damage had been done.

While I chose not to go see a professional regarding this, I had my suspicions as to what was the issue. Even after cutting back on Caffeine (plus doing away with store bought milk which caused the same effects), I just wasn't feeling right. While this may sound odd, I could feel a build up of internal heat within my lower intestinal tract which I believed was inflammation and the problem became so severe with the heat level, it felt like I was sitting on a heating pad all day long!

Naturally my thoughts turned to Cancer of the colon/lower intestinal tract, but I don't believe in the quack medical field today concerning "Cancer Specialists" and chose to self diagnose. Jumped on the internet, looked up the symptoms and didn't find anything regarding actually feeling a internal temperature change. I was becoming more concerned.

The previous time (approx. 2 years earlier), I knocked it out with a combination of a couple of small apples every day (only red apples, skin and all) with fish oil capsules and it disappeared after 6 weeks. This time, I tried several variations to see what the results would be.

I attempted to resolve the internal issue with only Fish Oil and Garlic Oil capsules and this was not enough by itself. I also tried the same thing with apples alone with the same results. After reading several posts by Bill in the Philippines regarding Coconut Oil and Candida Overgrowth ( which I felt I had also from a less than desirable diet), I started cooking my breakfast every morning with coconut oil. Eggs, sausage, fried potatoes and a English muffin with the same oil spread onto it instead of butter. Problems have disappeared over a 6-8 week period.

While I still haven't been consistent with this method as far as continuing past the 8th week, I still feel a "small reminder" now and then telling me to stop screwing around and stick to this method. Many thanks to individuals like Bill and Ted whom have done the research and decided to post their results on this website.

Coconut Oil, I use it for many things. I am just starting to use it for my sinuses that have been a big problem my whole life. I make my own deodorant using equal parts of coconut oil, baking soda and corn starch. I very been using this deodorant for 4 years because it works better than store bought. The lumps under my arms are gone since using it. I mix coconut oil with baking soda for a face and hand scrub. I mix coconut oil with dissolved epsom salt to soften skin, help reduce wrinkles and fat deposits. That will also help excema or soriasis. Coconut oil and magnesium has recently been very useful in the bedroom for this 60 year old teenager. I never want to be without it. I believe it's nature's miracle food and medicine. I would like to hear your replies to my comments. My name is Sue.

Piggybacking on Beth's comments from 2011, I too was diagnosed with HBP and was given two different meds - Lisinopril and Amlodepine (spelling?) - then I read a book on coconut oil and have now been off those nasty meds for over a year now, and my pressure has been steady and normal. Do some deep diving on understanding exactly what these meds do to your body and it will motivate you to get off them as soon as possible. I recall asking the doctor what exactly is in these meds and they couldn't even tell you, they just tell you to take and if one doesn't work, they will give you another. Those meds used to make me dizzy and nauseous. It took my body a long time to adjust after I stopped taking them. I also take magnesium, sea salt, garlic, and raw or royal jelly honey with the coconut oil daily. I drink a ton of water everyday as well. I don't know if my regimen is "correct" or would work for everyone, all I know is that when I go to the doctor I have never stated that I stopped taking the poisonous meds and my BP is good, let's me know that it is working. I also use MCT oil (derived from coconuts) in my coffee. I did cut back drastically on my coffee intake as well, just a cup per day and some days none at all. I realize that each person reacts differently to different supplements, so, what works for me may not work for all. What I do know is that I tell EVERYONE in my circle about the benefits (the list is lengthy) virgin coconut oil.

Virgin Vs Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
Posted by Michael (New Zealand) on 12/17/2016

There have been several postings recently concerning the many merits of Coconut Oils in their various shapes and forms. Nothing wrong there, EXCEPT that folks seem to be unaware that whilst the appellation "Virgin" and "Extra Virgin" actually mean something when one is referring to OLIVE OILS, they don't mean a hell of a lot when one is referring to Coconut Oils, (if you are seeking clarification on industry-applicable, certification authorities that is)!! This is NOT BAD, it is just that one should look at Coconut Oils from a different perspective and not judge them by similar criteria. So, as far as I am aware, one should not place too much reliance on a brand of C.O. that claims to be a virgin as if you were looking at an Olive Oil! As for "Extra Virgin", I don't think anyone would be bold enough to make such a claim. The Pacific Islanders do the best that they can, but the processing to a very high standard has various challenges and costs associated with it. Cold-pressed, "organic" and filtered oils, as well as processed oils, are out there. The Island oils usually get imported into New Zealand for final quality control. If you wish to learn more you could do worse than refer to an internet site where a few independent reviewers, review these issues/concerns and where these technicalities are nicely put forth (including any health concerns you might have). Coconut Oils are a real gift to humanity. I like my one. I consume a half teaspoon each day. We are now able to track our oil to a specific (Pacific) Island which is rather nice. Just trying to sift through the dross of misinformation!! Knowledge is power folks. Get acquainted with your foods!

Cheers, Michael

Dear Namaw,

I have been thinking about your cramping issue and the need to not have things that irritate your ibs.

I know you have tried many things, but have you tried a banana before bed at night? My husband used to take banana before bed to ward off cramps if he had been sweating a lot in the day. I also give banana to kids who are cramping from dehydration with a stomach virus. Bananas tend to have a binding effect, for most people that is...

Have you tried turmeric? I do not see it listed on the cramp page as a remedy, but perhaps it hasn't been tried. According to my Nutritional Herbology book, turmeric is high in potassium and magnesium, both good for cramps. And turmeric is a great diarrhea remedy. A typical dose would be 1 teaspoon in water or milk or yogurt or whatever. Some people take that even 2-3 times each day for different ailments.

Also, red raspberry leaf is high in magnesium and potassium and also a anti-diarrhea herb. You would want to make a strong tea of it, taken at bedtime or in the evening.

Just a few thoughts...

Hi Namaw,

This subject has come up in a group that meets for exercise each week in my church, and it has been suggested by one person (per her doctor) to take tonic water with quinine, while another lady said to stand on a low step with just your toes and the front part of your foot on the step, holding on to something to prevent falling, and then stretch your legs down towards the floor. I am not sure how frequently quinine can be taken nor the amount. I like magnesium oil but these remedies may be helpful if you can't take magnesium.

I already do epsom salt soaks and magnesium oil sprayed on my skin. If I do both in one day, I get diarrhea. I have terrible cramping in my legs and feet at night and the mag oil applied then does help, but I just can't seem to get enough of it to not have the cramps. I bought the mag liquid that you hold under your tongue to let it absorb and was out from work the next day with diarrhea (but I slept so well! ). Maybe I don't need the magnesium for the cramping, but what should I try?

I have been so happy with the results. My skin is soft, my age spots are fading. I wish the brand had more information. Is it cold pressed? Most are made from the copra, I do not want that. Sometimes labels are vague. Be sure to look out for hexane (bad) in the ingredients. Also make sure it has not been bleached, heated or refined.

Michael, good for you for taking charge of your health and making so many positive changes!

Plenty of people do report aches and pains (sometimes headache or flu like symptoms when adding new supplements.) It certainly seems like a possibility.

You might try some baking soda baths or epsom salt baths (1 cup per bath) to help your body with any detoxing (which can cause pain) and also helps with joint and muscle pain. Adequate hydration is also important to keep pain down.

Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks!

Hi. As a followup to my recent post on clearing sinus blockages and cleaning teeth/gums with Coconut Oil, I should have mentioned that I also maintain an Apple Cider Vinegar routine, broadly as outlined in these postings.

I have also been dairy free for the last few months, so that I can really notice the improvement in my (life-time) E.N.T. sufferings. As is often the case with these things, one can be unsure of which remedy is responsible for the improvement.

One thing is for sure, you have to change what you eat and drink before any supplement can have a chance of being effective I feel. I now intend to do more alkalizing using Bicarbonate of Soda.

I hope my aches and pains may reduce over time.

Yes Sandy, (posted in 2007! ) I have been using Coconut oil for my "pulling" regime for my teeth etc for a few months now and have only just recently extended this by consuming one or two teaspooons of it daily. My sinuses and ear blockages have declined considerably, even when it gets humid or cold! I have been doing the 15 minutes of pulling first thing upon rising (i.e.before consuming anything else) and I do a few essential chores to occupy the time usefully, so 15 mins becomes no big deal. Some suggest doing it in the evening is better. I now have the tablespoon either straight or with coffee or on toast. I soon got used to the change in routine and these natural cures are so much better than most alternatives, so why would you not give them a go?

I do seem to be having a reaction at present to my increased intake but hope to pull through (excuse the pun). Sore muscles, joints and or ligaments mainly. Can anyone confirm this as being a likely reaction please?

I would really appreciate feedback on this subject. Thanks, Michael

To sweeten fruit smoothies, I break off ripe bananas into chunks, and freeze 4-5 of chunks in a ziploc bag -- enough for one smoothie. Not only is it a healthy and delicious way to sweeten smoothies, but it gives them a cold and creamy texture.

Sandi - I don't personally use coconut oil for weight loss, but it appears just from reading several topics in here that people start with one teaspoon and go on from there, up to a couple of or a few tablespoons, for whatever it is they're taking it for. I don't know if this is helpful to you or not, but I hope you get some help in losing weight.

I've started taking the EVO myself and I've noticed some success. The brain fog and anxiety has definitely improved and the achy body has improved. I don't wake up tired anymore and I take it with my meals about 3-4 teaspoons. I mix it with honey sometimes. I am going to continue taking it, I'm hoping to see success such as my thyroid improving and weight decreasing. I enjoy the posts. They are great and good to know there are alternatives to your doctor putting you on tons of medications. Thanks to everyone's input.

When I took a teaspoon by mouth, I felt terrible for the next day, but when I put the same amount on bread twice a day, I have no problems and feel much better. I also lose weight when I take it consistently.

Where to Buy: NH

Walmart carries a "Carrington Farms" brand that is 100% organic, extra virgin, pure, unrefined, cold pressed coconut oil. 12 oz is between $6-$7. I bought two, one for me, and one for my bichon frise dog. It does a great job killing and preventing fleas on my dog and also quickly cleared up any skin problems that were there from his scratching. In doing this, I stumbled upon another great use for it: it works like Angel Eyes on white dogs and is a whole lot cheaper. Don't get it too close to their eyes, yet it will still clear up all the dark area under the eyes. He likes to lick it off his hair, but it doesn't hurt him to ingest that little amount. But what I applied to the skin is still there. I'm not sure if applying it to his skin or the amount he licks off his hair is what worked the miracle like Angel Eyes....maybe both. But fleas are gone and he sleeps peacefully at night instead of scratching. Note: The LouAnne brand or whatever it's called is not the same ingredients and did not work on my dog. The Carrington Farms shows on the bottom of the container it has "lauric acid" 6.02g in it and some of the others do not have that.

In my studies, I learned that coconut oil is not a significant spurce of vitamin E. It is great for a lot of things but unfortunately E is not one of them. I have a horse in that race as I need a quick source of high dose E for emergency when my mother goats have not had rice bran during their pregnancy and give birth to a "floppy Kid" , in lambs it is "white muscle disease". Cured first by first aid keeping them warm and tubing their colostrum into them, but then placing a fingerful of red palm oil into their mouth. Highest form of natural E I have found so far. It makes them little legs get strong in days and makes them smart enough to start nursing on their own. Feeding rice bran to Moms is tons easier.
