Mullein tea for asthma and COPD:

On a daily basis I take OACV [organic apple cider vinegar] with a pinch of cayenne pepper and the juice of 1 whole lemon.

In addition to this I recently added 1.5 Ltr bottle of Volvic water with a half teaspoon of borax. The reason I chose Volvic water is because it seems to be the only water with 32mg silica per Ltr (it states it on the bottle). I can't find any other water containing silica.

In addition to this I make 1 Ltr of Mullein tea in my cafeteria, which has a fine filter needed to separate floaters in the tea, which I sweeten with raw honey.

Since adding these recent additions to my daily intake of health remedies I have stopped using Ventolin and DuoResp Spiromax inhalers because I no longer wheeze and cough up daily dollops of phlegm. Also and perhaps more importantly, my BPH problems have noticeably decreased. I no longer need to urgently find a toilet when I feel like a pee and I now sleep all night without getting up to pee several times during the night.

I have purposely waited for a month before coming on here to tell you in case it was a fluke, but I don't think it is because I feel so well and everything works as it should (and I mean everything).

The Mullein tea I buy online and I use 2 tablespoons full (heaped) per litre. I drink a mug of it after my OACV mix and drink the rest during the day. I make the brew in the evening and leave it for use the next morning so it has infused all night.

I use a gym and swimming pool 3 times a week and I am 78 years old this year.

Best,

Chris.

I purchase Apple Cider Vinegar capsules, often from ebay, but also direct from the manufacturer in the USA. I started using them when I was diagnosed with C.O.P.D. lung disease. They changed my life, I could breath again without the need for inhalers or nebulizers, am off the other medications as well. Reduced my cholesterol, and lost weight, normalized my sugar levels, and I no longer suffer with reflux or heartburn. I take 6 capsules a day, and it costs me less than just one of my prescriptions did.

Wow, I too suffer with COPD and I met a lady last week who told me about ACV, I tried the liquid the same day, and immediately started feeling better. I thought it was all in my head, but it does help.

Buteyko Breathing Method

I would like to talk about Buteyko Breathing.

I was diagnosed with moderate COPD and told to use an inhaler, I refused the inhaler and tried to look for more information on how I could handle this naturally. In the mean time I did the peroxide inhaler according to Bill and oregano oil when I started coughing and knew that a bacterial infection was coming. Both of these were effective somewhat but my oxygen level kept going down. My husband died during this time and because I have agoraphobia my anxiety kicked in really bad. I really thought this was it.

I ordered an oxygen concentrator and was trying to figure out how to hook it up to my sleep apnea machine that I started trying to find out how to get rid of my excess co2 that everyone online said I have too much of.

Instead of finding what I was looking for, I found a site that said we had too little co2. That definitely got my attention. What I discovered was the Buteyko Breathing method. You will have to look up the site online and read for yourself how to do this. They have people who will help but they charge, so that was out, I'm cheap. But I found enough information online to get started.

The most important thing was keeping your mouth closed at all times. You only open it to talk and eat and yawn. The first time I did this I was really in a panic and especially with COPD but I kept it up. Just a small exercise for you that don't want to go to the internet and look up. Keeping your mouth closed take a small breath in and then a small breath out and then hold your breath for the count of 5, pause and do it all over again for about 10 min to start 3 times a day.

There is more to it but the improvement is apparent in about 24 hours. The nice thing is it is free!!!! You really need to research it on line or go to amazon and get a book on Buteyko Breathing. I started this whole routine in 2019. I have never used my oxygen concentrator. I have no more COPD and I walk one and a half to 2 miles a day. This is not just for COPD but for anxiety asthma and a host of other things. We are all over breathing and building up co2 that should be in our blood but is trapped in our lungs. I hope this has been a help to someone and and maybe will get you to thinking in a different direction. We are on a holistic site because maybe we're not sure if the pharmaceutical, doctors, science has it right!!! Or maybe we have tried it all and to no avail.

Free!!!! Oxygen is FREE!!

The best to you, Yolanda

This cured mine and my husband's cousin who had COPD:

So here is the recipe for “OMG I Can't Breath”:

  • Take the peel and as much of the thick white pith as you can get off of two Grapefruits (preferably Organic if not rinse them well underwater prior to peeling)
  • Place your peels and pith in a small pot that has a good fitting unvented lid.
  • Cover with just enough distilled water to cover the peelings. (You will need to push them down to get this measurement because they will float as you add the water). Use ONLY distilled water. The fluoride and other toxic chemicals in tap water will concentrate when boiled and you do not want to ingest that crud!
  • Put the lid on the pot and put on med-high heat just until it starts to boil, then reduce it to a low simmer.
  • Let it simmer for 2 full hours. ***DO NOT TAKE THE LID OFF A SINGLE TIME DURING THE TWO HOURS! It helps to have a pot with a glass lid so you are certain when it reaches a boil and need to turn it down. The lid acts as a distilling device getting the concentrated liquids back into your pot.
  • After 2 hours remove it from the heat and let it cool to close to room temperature. Now you can remove the lid.
  • Strain the liquid into a glass jar that has a lid for storing it in the refrigerator.
  • Take 1 Table Spoon (15 mls) every 2 hours until symptoms subside.

My pulse ox was 95% when I took my first dose and within 45 minutes it was an easy 98% and I literally felt like I was breathing for the first time in weeks. Within 15 minutes of taking it you begin to cough up a lot of stuff and your lungs clear quickly.

By the way, NEVER EVER EVER swallow anything you cough up at any time in life…always get a tissue or go outside and spit. Your lungs push out things that do not belong there and you do not need to introduce that bacteria into your digestive tract to cause more trouble in your body.

To Start with, the UK has put a ban on 35% Food Grade H2O2, with a two year prison sentence if you are found in possession. You can only purchase the 35% FGH2O2 with a government license.

On visiting South Africa, I freely bought it and the distilled water to take the dosage as laid down in Bill's book. I managed to get as far as 22 drops in 12 fl.ozs (UK) of distilled water. That was on day 14 of the schedule. I had to quit as I kept throwing up, later I found out why, it is very hard to know when your stomach is completely empty, because at this high dose, the stomach must be completely empty. However not to be put off completely, I reduced the 35% down to 3% with distilled water 11 to 1 total 12, 11 being distilled water and 1 the 3%.

I am using an altrasonic nebulizer ( Beurer IH 40 ). The best thing I ever bought, it is almost silent, so it can be used at night without disturbing your partner. My oxygen transfer reading had dropped from 98 to 95 in less than 6 months, before I started the inhaling treatment. I am pleased to say that my readings have improved back to 98/99. I started the treatment with 10 minutes 3 times a day, for 10 days, then I increased the time to 15 minutes 3 times day, for 10 days, I am now on 15 minutes 4 times a day.

I have informed my doctor and COPD nurse of my actions, they were both astonished when I presented the benefits of FG H2O2.They had no answer to my actions. I told them I had stopped taking my inhalers, I don't need them. I will continue until August 2016, then I will have a comparison check up of January 2016. I have read most of the comments here on this site. I sleep up to 10 hours without any problem, and get up at 6 am twice a week to go fishing, I can still lug my fishing gear around, although I do get out of breathe, however my recovery time is getting better by the week.

Hi Freda, I do not know just how much proof you require, or how much research you have done, or if you have even used H202. Frankly, though I do not really much care because there will always be people such as yourself who want PROOF!, proof for this, proof for that. You most likely spend all your time searching for proof rather getting down and applying any methods to really help yourself.

For those of us, and there are many who have used and use H202 therapy for our Copd Emphysema, this therapy is a godsend, I myself have used both the drinking method and the inhalation method for some years now and the change in my condition is very apparent not only to myself but to all my friends and family and I am grateful that I possessed the open mind to go searching for ways to improve my condition. I did not go on a close minded journey looking for proof! Thus wasting time which I didn't have to waste, I became a doer, I saw what others were doing and achieving success and I wanted that, if you want proof there are so many people out there who can give you that, But when it all comes down to it Freda why should anyone try and convince you, or anyone of anything. Waste of time in my book because there will always be those just like yourself who require evidence, proof of everything, but in the meantime everything just gets worse. There is no proof that you will even wake up tomorrow morning. For me, I have a better chance of that happening with my H202 daily regimen than not. So bottom line Freda, keep on with your search for "Proof" we are all here, and we are the proof!

My mom is 85 and has asthma and copd for 20 years now. Both started getting worse the last couple years and I could tell the docs couldn't or wouldn't do much to help her. I discovered in my research on youtube that peppermint tea and organic raw honey when drunk daily will clear mucus from lungs. She started using these two simple remedies 6 months ago & her doc told her after 4 months of drinking this that her lungs were clear of mucus. For the first time in years, she (doc) heard no wheezing or rattling noise.

My mom drinks a cup in the morning and later in the day. Whenever she feels like a cold or something is coming on, she doubles the tea bags and honey for safe measures, and so far, praise God, it seems to help war off intruders.

I am 62 years old and have had asthma since I was 3 years old. For the past 15 years or so I have had multiple bouts of pneumonia and bronchitis. One bout of pneumonia lasted for 5 months and the bronchitis usually lasts for 2 to 3 months. Recently I was diagnosed with COPD, never smoked, never experienced second hand smoke. I have been using albuterol inhalers for 45 years or so. Started inhaled steroids 30 years ago. Was put on nebulizer steroids to use with my usual does of nebulizer albuterol and Advair 500/50.

In researching my options, I found the idea of using DMSO and Colloidal Silver in a nebulizer. I mix 7 cc of Colloidal Silver, 3 cc DMSO, 3 cc distilled water. This mix lasts me for 6 treatments, plus a little. I do three or four treatments a day with 2 cc of my mixed solution. When I started the Silver/DMSO treatments I stopped ALL of my asthma COPD meds. I have used my inhaler once. I have been doing this new regimen for 4 days. The phlegm is slowly coming up. I feel better than I have in months. I have an appt. with my GP next week. I hope he hears better lung sounds. My next apt with my Pulmonologist is next month. I will try to repost as time goes on.

I was diagnosed with copd in 2012. I am 56 and have smoked since I was 16. I now take advair, a rescue inhaler, nebulized albuterol and am on continuous 2L of oxygen 24/7. Its been a long time since I've had a good breath. I discovered this site about 3 or 4 months ago and decided to try the dmso, msm and colloidal silver.

First I put 1/2 teaspoon of dmso mixed with 1/2 teaspoon of distilled water in the nebulizer and just held it in front of my face. This is some strong stuff. I don't think I put the mouthpiece directly in my mouth but I did pull some in my lungs via my mouth. I survived that.

Next I nebulized 1/2 teaspoonful of colloidal silver. This went smooth. About 2 or 3 hours later I started trying to clear my throat. I hacked around for a few minutes and just a small amount of yellow looking junk came up. I then took a dose of advair and I think some of it actually got to my lungs because before I don't think the advair was making it pass the back of my tongue. I did this like 2 days ago. I did Not do any yesterday or today. Today I just did the silver only.

I pulled the oxygen hose off for about 4 or 5 hours. I did get up and went slowly to the bathroom but while getting out of breath a little bit I did not get breathless. Tomorrow I will do the dmso again. I will pull a little more in my lungs. I will do the silver again. same dosages, and I also will put 1 teaspoonful of msm in a bottle of drinking water to drink.

For the last 2 days I have also been taking 1 morning probiotic capsule daily, 2 turmeric capsules daily, 1 vitamin c daily, 2 500mg Coq 10 tablets. This is the best I have felt in at least 3 or 4 years that I remember. It has been almost a year since I've left my home. I have a great husband. I have an even greater God who has led me on this path, because before I started healing myself physically, I made sure I was healed spiritually. I would recommend any spiritual healing before the physical.

I love you all. Take care. Breathe good.

Kathleen,

Many "incurable" illnesses have in fact been cured many times over by holistic practitioners with readily available substances. You don't have this information being tossed around in mass media because the Medical/Pharmaceutical industry work hard to discredit these Doctors and create fear so people will not listen to them.

My personal journey started years ago when by accident I ran across the Borax/Arthritis cure information online while looking for relief for calcified discs that had me almost disabled. I took a gamble and gave it a shot and within two weeks discs in my spine that were calcified to the point of me not having normal spinal movement broke free. I was shouting the information from the roof tops. I have never been so happy or amazed in my life. Years of pain and thousands of dollars spent seeking relief and with 20 mule team borax, some sea salt and removing fluoride from my water. I didn't just get relief but the injury was completely healed.

My back and my LIFE were forever changed by that experience. I became an avid student of Holistic medicine and no one in my household has seen a Doctor in many years now. Along this journey I have had my eyesight improve from lugols iodine usage, HS cured from DMSO, am now completely free of my heart throwing PVCs thanks to mega dosing Magnesium ( an issue I suffered with for over 15 years), no longer suffer from insomnia due to good old IP6 Inositol, passed multiple kidney stones in less than 24 hours with lemon juice and olive oil.

That's just a few of the cures I have experienced that no Doctor or Prescription drug was ever able to just eradicate. There is a cure for every illness. The human body has the ability to heal and cure itself built in. If you remove the things that are hindering it and provide it with the tools (substances) it needs it will cure itself. What does vary from person to person is what cofactors they are deficient in that are needed for the biological processes and what levels of toxins they may have that are inhibiting the process.

As for the Grapefruit, I can only tell you my experience but with a little research, you will find plentiful testimony to the grapefruit tonic working. The peel contains Quinine. I personally also keep a supply of cinchona bark on hand in case the need ever arises for stronger doses of Quinine in my family.

In many European Countries COPD has been successfully treated with Vitamin A. The dosage is 25,000 IU once a day for 2 months. As for permanent damage to the lungs...the body can regenerate any damaged tissue with in the body. Our miraculous creation includes stem cells that the body can use to form any type of tissue needed. Our toxic environment and toxic dietary habits hinder our natural ability to heal ourselves...but we can actively change that in our lives. I do hope you try the Grapefruit and I hope you receive immense relief from it as well. As you scroll through posts here on earth clinic take note of the Doctors you see mentioned and start researching them. There have been so many great Doctors who dedicated their lives to actually curing people lost in a sea of modern Doctors who are owned by the pharmacy reps.

I am shocked! It has been 4 days since I did a "breathing treatment" In 40 years, I have never gone 4 days without some kind of asthma treatment. In the last 6 months, I was doing prescription nebulizer treatments 3 or 4 times a day...until I found this information about DMSO and Colloidal Silver. I used both of this for several weeks without using any prescription medicine, BIG improvement! Then I decided to go one step further and added 1 tsp of coconut oil which I take 3 or 4 times a day. After a week of the added coconut oil, I quit using the nebulizer treatments with DMSO and Colloidal Silver. Yesterday I started wheezing, wheezed for 5 minutes and then coughed up some nice thin mucus and the wheezing stopped. The coconut oil has radically thinned my chest mucus which I cough up easily and frequently. Y'all I am so happy! This is a new life for this old lady. I am planning to take some big steps in the near future. 3 months ago I thought I would be dead in 2 years or less. Thanks for great information!!

I posted two years ago, when I began inhaling H2O2 for COPD. I had been terribly sick for over 15 years and was suffering for nearly six months of the year with chronic bronchitis and pneumonia.

I started with Bill Munro's inhalation method and I am now using between 3 and 5 ccs of .5% (1/2 %) food grade hydrogen peroxide (diluted with distilled water) daily via nebulizer. I have had only two short episodes of bronchitis in two years (and no other illnesses at all)!

I am not a healthcare practitioner, but have been doing exhausting amounts of research and have found a lot of important info I would like to share.

1. You should always use food-grade H2O2 when possible and it should only be diluted with distilled water. (care should be taken when diluting, it is caustic at anything over 3% and WILL burn you). If food grade is not accessible or you don't trust yourself, use the stabilized type (brown bottle), but know that it has additives that can affect you negatively. I used the stabilized type for about a year with no adverse effects and Bill Munro has been using it forever.

2. The food-grade is more potent than the stabilized even at the same diltuion. The dilution I have used (and recommended to hundreds of people) is:

3% stabilized or 2% food-grade for mist inhalation and for anything topical (ears, cuts, etc.).

1% stabilized or .5% food-grade for nebulizer treatments.

3. Many people would like to take H2O2 internally for almost any ailment. I believe it will cure ANYTHING! However, you should know that it is not as simple as putting a few drops in water. There are many foods and meds that interact with H2O2 and you can get quite sick. In "The One-Minute Cure" by Madison Cavanaugh, there is a great chart with dosages and recommendations for detoxing, etc. You can also read about what foods, medicines, etc. to avoid.

4. Speaking of books on the subject, "Hydrogen Peroxide Medical Miracle" by William Campbell Douglass is also a wealth of info. I have also recently downloaded a free Kindle book "Hydrogen Peroxide Miracle Healers From the Kitchen" by Sharon Daniels. It is a short e-book. It appears that this author has condensed other author's info into a quick read. It doesn't really give specifics on how to use H2O2, but it's great for some very interesting facts.

I hope that this info can be posted for others, so that they can take advantage of this amazing and inexpensive cure for almost any ailment out there.

Be well, Maggie

Hi to you all I suffered with copd for eight years, six really bad ones.

However by chance - long story - I took some vitamin b12 and within 48 hours or so my symptoms had disappeared.

The tightness in my chest and the excruciating agony of breathing has gone.

Breathlessness is a symptom of vitamin b12 deficiency, pernicious anemia is a serious deficiency. Obviously I have some way to go with my breath as not being able to breathe for six years does take its toll - I get out if breath still but not breathless. So complete recovery could take a while I should think I am still only recently recovered I am no expert but I don't know if it will help all copd cases as they are many different causes - its worth a try.

As for the dosage well I used cherry flavored methyl b12 and just took four or five a day.

Vit b12 is a water based vitamin and the French firemen are given it before going to a fire to protect their lungs.

Good luck to you all

Thanks for looking.

Spices and COPD, Chronic Bronchitis:

A year ago, I was diagnosed with chronic Bronchitis - COPD, so severe that my ears turned blue from lack of Oxygen. My blood pressure was very high, too. The DOT immediately yanked my Health card for driving truck. When I went to the Dr. my Oxy saturation level was 81. He put me on an inhalor and I had to use a Nebulizer several times a day. Nothing really changed. I could breathe a little better, but was still able to walk only for short distances.

I love to cook, and tried to think of the healthiest people that I know. I started cooking with spices from China, India, and other Asian areas. I use curry powders (in various heat ranges), Turmeric, Cayenne, Garlic, Ginger, Paprika, Mustard, Wasabi, and others. I use one or more of these ingredients in every meal, and most snacks, that I cook.

About two months ago I had a physical, blood work, and EKG in preparation for surgery. My lungs no longer "wheeze" (I do have a bad day once in a while...but not DAILY); my blood pressure was normal; my Oxy sat level is 95 to 97 percent; (both) Cholesterols were at healthy levels, and, except for my COPD, I am as healthy as can be! The best result of eating all that good, spicy-hot, healthy food is that I can walk at least a half a mile without "running out of breath."

I have NEVER posted to any Website but feel that people should be aware of the benefits of spices and herbs. I have now found a local store that sells 1 pound packages of spices, instead of paying $4 to $7 in grocery stores for those little bottles. The savings are phenomenal. This is the best site that I have found that re-enforces my belief in hot foods. Thank you EARTH CLINIC.

COPD Hydrogen Peroxide letter

Last fall 2011, I started to use the peroxide medication regime and have had the subsequent events took place:

I was on an oxegenator 24/7 constantly hooked up and running.

Oxygen bottles were used whenever I needed to go to the store. I required help going to the store, could not bring in groceries myself.

It was not possible to walk from the back of my house to the front without getting winded. No work could be done at all. Laundry, cleaning, bed making, showering, and all walking was a real problem. Occasionally I would overdo and it ended in a full blown pulmonary episode, sometimes so severe my bladder would void unstoppably. I wanted to die when that happened. This is no way to live, I prayed to die or if I was not to die yet then to heal me. In response to my prayer He began to quicken my thoughts to investigate natural remedies, eventually I found this website and read about the use of hydrogen peroxide.

I have not used the oxegenator in over five months. My pure oxygen requirements went from eight small bottles a month to less than two. I'm still careful but I now can do my own gardening and lawn mowing on the lawn tractor. I don't need any other meds other than the two capsules that are taken everyday in an inhaler. I can go for days at a time without even using the nebulizer with the 3% hydrogen peroxide mixture.

I drive and shop unassisted. If you have COPD try this. It worked for me! And don't forget that God is in charge and guides you every moment.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Borax, Mullein Tea

I started the Organic ACV - a tablespoon at night. It helped only a little. Purchased some mullein tea and made that... It was helpful combined with Breathe Easy Yogi tea gave it a better flavor and it did help.

Then began using a nebulizer with H202... that was difficult. Burned my throat, caused a paroxism of coughing but in about 2 days the phlem was less. Wheezing was reduced and I was breathing a little easier and not heaving every time I tried to do something.

A friend told me his wife used a diffuser with essential oils and H202... so I purchased that and began using that instead of the nebulizer... which was easier to cope with and I can let it run all day if I am near the diffuser. The one I got came with 10 essential oils... Then I purchased an essential oil specifically for COPD... that hasn't arrived yet. Also got one called Respiratory Rescue from Garden Essence. That is also working. Airways are clearer, I can move about without feeling so winded and exhausted. Wheezing is nearly gone. 2 capfuls of H202 in the diffuser with 10 drops of the essential oil. But I have a ways to go yet.

Then I wondered if COPD could be reversed and also what caused it. I was a smoker in my 20's... but I'm now 73. Could it be that I am experiencing this from a bad habit I had some 50 years ago? I wondered and so did some research. You will be surprised at what I found.

Here is a video... this explains why a person can be suffering from COPD even though they quit smoking many years ago.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ElbWjpmZAw

In case that video is taken down... here is a link to a blog. Website offers info on conventional and alternative treatment along with a focus group. This person also wrote a book which is the 3rd edition.

I should warn you that hydrogen peroxide is reactive and corrosive. If you combine it with other stuff it will break down the other stuff, rendering it useless or converting it into other stuff that is either useless or harmful that you don't want in your body. So only inhale H2O2 if you haven't inhaled other treatments in a few hours, and will not be inhaling other treatments in a few hours. AVOID all treatments containing metals (silver, magnesium, etc) for 24 hours if using H2O2.

If my breathing has been really bad for a while, H2O2 helped sometimes. But it seems that whatever "cleaning" effect it has, it had no more beneficial effects after the lungs were cleaned with it. Perhaps people who are frequently breathing dirty environments, pollution, smoke, or regularly getting lung infections can benefit from regular use of H2O2.

Otherwise a few days in a row for cleaning out the lungs every few weeks or months might be good enough for some in good, clean, safe, healthy environments.

People with air filters, AC, & relatively clean air around them may not see any improvement from regular H2O2 treatments.

You may not need to mix H2O2 with distilled water. Pour a teaspoon of H2O2 in a small glass of your tap water. If it doesn't bubble or foam like crazy, or only bubbles a little bit, there's not much bad in it to react to, so you can mix it with ordinary tap water.

I've read coffee and caffeine may be bad for COPD. It turns out it is only bad for some of the meds you may be taking.

My COPD was so bad that I couldn't walk across the room or go to the bathroom without desperately gasping for air. Getting laid off because of breathing problems, losing my health insurance, & being on a tight budget, I gave up coffee because I could no longer afford it, and they said it was bad for me.

After some research I had discovered that caffeine is very similar chemically to some meds used to treat COPD. I traced my steps back to the last time I could walk across a room without gasping for air. It was before I ran out of coffee and gave it up!

I desperately went to my cabinet and got out some caffeine tablets I had from the days of my night-shift work, and took a tablet. These were the bigger strong ones. I used to only use a half a tablet for night-work because they were so strong. But for this experiment I took a whole one.

A whole one was too much. Got the shakes, and an uneasy stomach. Breathing only improved slightly during the first hour. During the second hour, breathing was remarkably better. After the second hour I was breathing better than I had in months!

The speedy/hyper effects of the caffeine had diminished considerably after a couple hours, but the breathing was still improving. I continued to breathe much better for 5 hours after taking the caffeine, before I noticed my breathing was starting to get slightly worse again.

I continued experimenting with different doses at different times to see what worked best. Rather than buy more coffee, I continued on using the caffeine "stay awake" tablets to formulate an accurate dosage/treatment scheme.

This is what works for me these days. I take a normal cup of coffee in the morning with a small caffeine tablet. The tablets are about half the size of the original ones, so are much weaker. It turns out more is NOT better. So if you have one of those special or exotic coffee makers that deliver a very strong caffeinated beverage, you might want to skip the tablets entirely.

Caffeine is a drug and a stimulant. If you have too much it will de-sensitze you to it, causing you to need more with less of the beneficial effect. Also too much will make you hyper or nervous so you'll burn more oxygen and get an upset stomach. So be sensible. Use only what you need, using too much will only make things worse.

I usually don't need any more caffeine for at least 5 hours. At that time, around lunch time or hours after, another ordinary cup of coffee is enough. But if my breathing has gotten considerably worse, I may take only 1/2 of one of those small caffeine tablets with the coffee. Again, I must stress, if you are having a strong coffee or strong caffeinated beverage you may skip the tablet.

AVOID Red Bull or other caffeinated beverages and energy drinks that may have other stuff in them you don't want or may be bad for you and your other treatments!

Just before, during, or after dinner time (depending on my breathing) I may have another cup of coffee. Many days I can skip it because I'm still breathing good enough. Other days if it has gotten real bad, I'll take another half a caffeine tablet with the coffee.

Again, I must stress, more or too much is NOT better. Take only the amount of caffeine you need to breath a little better. Taking too much will de-sensitize you to it, and the treatment won't work or work well anymore. Don't be impatient. You may notice only a slight improvement after 20-60 minutes of taking caffeine. The significant improvement will happen after the first hour, and continue for many hours.

2-4 hours before bedtime I might have another cup of coffee if my breathing is getting bad again. That way the speedy effects are almost worn off by bedtime so I can sleep well. However if my breathing is so bad that I can't get ready for bed or sleep safely, I'll also take a half a caffeine tablet with the coffee, and decide to stay up a few hours later until my breathing is better.

I find usually if I had a caffeine tablet or a half of one with my coffee, the next time or the next 2 times I do not need a caffeine tablet with my coffee, or can go longer without coffee. The tablets I'm using now only have about as much caffeine as a cup of coffee. So a cup with a tablet is like having 2 coffees. A cup with a half a tablet is like having a large coffee.

So I'm only having the equivalent of 4-6 regular ordinary cups of coffee a day in caffeine, and unlike the coffee guzzlers at work or at most jobs, it's spread out through the whole day, not just squeezed into an 8 hour work shift.

Check with your doctor to make sure it's safe to drink coffee with the meds you're taking. However, if you're having very strong coffee, or taking caffeine tablets, you might want to stop taking the other meds for that day anyway & see how things go.

Caffeine can conflict with other meds... especially meds that are stimulants that have ingredients in them that end in the letters "ene" or "ine", or steroids. They do not mix well with coffee.

So if caffeine is so similar to other COPD meds chemically why aren't doctors recommending it, or telling you to avoid it? Doctors and drug companies won't make much money if they tell you ordinary cheap coffee is almost the same thing as the meds.

I've recently changed my coffee recipe for even better results. A slightly weaker coffee with a little chocolate, sugar, and milk is even better. They say avoid sugar because it burns O2. BS! Any energy you burn will require O2. Sugar is the quickest was to ingest energy without spending a lot of resources & O2 digesting and processing it. So unless you're already overweight, enjoy your sugar.

I use a weaker cup of instant coffee now. Only a single level teaspoon of cheap generic instant coffee in hot water. 2.5 teaspoons of sugar. 1 heaping teaspoon of Nesquick instant chocolate milk (also has a little caffeine & antioxidants in it), and 1 heaping teaspoon of dry milk. Don't worry if you're lactose intolerant, a teaspoon of low fat dry milk doesn't have enough lactose to bother most people. So you're getting a little protein, vitamin D, calcium, energy & other nutrients with every cup. It's also delicious.

The little bit of low fat dry milk won't generate extra mucus, or slimy spit. I've tried many different recipes over almost a year now. The chocolate instant coffee recipe seems to improve the breathing the best.

The second best was cinnamon (lots of antioxidant) instead of chocolate in the coffee. But I had to use 3 heaping teaspoons of sugar instead of 2.5 for the taste & energy boost I needed. Yum!

With the new chocolate recipe, on a good day, I only need a caffeine tablet with the coffee in the the morning and can avoid more tablets with the coffee for the rest of the day or until the evening. Some good days I may only have 2 cups!

But there are still occasionally bad days where I still need a half tablet with every cup (up to 6 cups a day) to get through a day even with the chocolate.

Grapefruit juice is another daily treatment I use. Again, it had chemicals similar to some meds you may be taking so check with your doctor first or discontinue the meds for the day to see how it works for you. It is safe to take grapefruit juice with caffeine though.

Grapefruit juice is also some pretty potent stuff, so more is not better, and too much can make things worse. Because I need to sleep at night, I usually take about 8 oz. of grapefruit juice after dinner or a couple hours before bedtime. That way I need very little or no caffeine to help me breathe & can sleep better.

Air conditioning! Humidity is the enemy for most of us.That's why it's better to take a bath than a shower too. Showers put too much humidity into the air.

Keep the air cool and dry. Humidity of 40% is ideal for COPD sufferers. Some people can't take it much drier than that, but others are fine down to 0%. Keep it cool. The molecules & oxygen in the air are closer together at cooler temperatures. So you're getting more O2 per breath when the air is cooler.

Blow up a balloon in the hot sun on a hot humid day. Then put the balloon in the fridge for an hour. See how much it shrank? There's just as much O2 in there as before but it's more concentrated so takes up less space. More O2 per breath!

Wear heavy sweatshirts, hoodies, and sweatpants & other warm stuff inside to keep warm, and crank up the AC. Keep it in the 60s F (16-21C) to breathe better. The cool dry are will also slow or stop the growth of mold & bacteria that can be growing in the walls, drains, under the toilet rim, litter box, & other places you can't see it. That stuff thrives on warm or humid damp air.

Don't let the air get stale and de-oxygenated though. Crack the windows open at least a couple times a day to refresh the air. Even in the freezing winter. Turn up the heat or sit in front of an electric heater while the air is being refreshed in winter. It won't take long to refresh the air a little so you can close them again.

Cooking consumes a lot of O2, expels CO, CO2, dirties up the air, and heats the place up, so it's the best time to crack open the kitchen window to let in fresh air during winters.

Can afford that? Keep a small safe room that is always air conditioned, air filtered, and regularly refreshed, to retreat to... like your bedroom. It's pretty cheap to keep 1 small room conditioned well to escape to. Put a TV, computer, and projects to do in there to pass the time with on bad breathing days.

Avoid fireplaces, wood stoves, campfires, and other open flames & fires. They're very, very, bad for COPD. I have to stay home for Christmas and Thanksgiving because family insists they must have logs burning on a fire even though I can't breathe. Ironically my Mom passed away with COPD, but they have forgotten she couldn't breathe near a wood fire either.

Don't like the nasty looks they give me when I start coughing up goo either, so I'm glad to stay home during the holidays anyway.

Air filters! Although your small 400-500 watt window AC has a filter in it that helps, it will only trap large particles or hair, & a few contaminants may condense and stick to the cold damp AC core to be drained to the outside (so yes, they will clean the air a little). Even if you can only afford a couple $40 walmart portable air filters for a small bedroom they do help a lot. H2O2 may not help much if you're already breathing relatively clean air most of the time or overnight when the dirt settles in the lungs the most.

The disposable filters inside can cost almost as much as the units, & may need to be replaced in 3 months. But there's ways around that. Open up the unit to get at the replaceable filters. Tape a thin, cheap, sheet of single ply generic toilet paper over the front of the paper filter assembly. The cheapest version of Scot toilet paper works best for me. Replace the paper every 1-2 months (if you have pets & kids around once a month). The replaceable filters in mine have lasted 19 months so far, and seems like I'll get them to last over 2 years.

I used to desperately gasp for air just walking across the room or going to the bathroom every day for months. With the caffeine, grapefruit juice, AC, & filters, I can get most of my household chores, cooking, and eating done almost every day good enough. I can walk 8 blocks to get groceries, & carry them home, taking a rest for a few minutes every block or so now.

I live on the second floor. I can go downstairs to check my mail every day without much problems now. No cure, but much better than before.
