Apple Cider Vinegar for acid reflux, GERD, sour stomach, etc.
Wow, I'm just so happy that I have to share my experience with you and hope that it will help you. I was experiencing so much acid in my tummy to the point that I constantly had to eat to alleviate the discomfort. At night was the worst. It's when your stomach has no food, and that's when I felt so sick that I had to get something to eat, at night. Even that, in the morning I felt nauseous because of all the acid in the stomach. Luckily, I went to this lovely website. I read about Ted's remedies for GERD. I'm familiar with this site ten years ago and read a lot about Ted's remedies. I wonder how Ted is doing now. I learned so much from Ted. Sorry for getting off track. Back to this remedy, I mixed 1 tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in an 8oz of water and drank it 3 times a day. This drink really tastes like Alka Seltzer without the aspirin. I felt a difference soon after I drank it. It really changed my well being. I was feeling so sick in the stomach and it made me lazy and not felt well.
I really hope this recipe will help you. I really think it will.

I have used the ACV & Baking Soda tonic for Acid Reflux for about 20 years. I use the raw organic version, with 'the mother'. It works really well, and feel it has other benefits. One caution is if you are monitoring your sodium intake as baking soda does have a fair amount.

PLEASE seek professional medical help and do not stop until you find a doctor who will help you! You may have one of the severe cases that requires surgical intervention. This may sound scary, but it could save you from serious problems down the road. Even when you are without symptoms, GERD could still be causing difficulties internally. Please don't be disheartened. There IS help for you!

The problem with the acid blockers is that they shut down the acid producing pump in the stomach and when you suddenly stop taking these drugs the stomach pump tries to make up for the blockage and produces more acid so it's hard to get off these drugs., but not impossible. It would appear that reducing gradually would be better.

Yes, but I have read that first you put the Apple Cider Vinegar in the glass, then add the baking soda, let it foam up and when it's done foaming THEN add the water and drink. I add a little bit of stevia too to sweeten it. I had forgotten all about this remedy and now I have a stricture in my esophagus and I need it to be stretched. I am on second day of the PPI, but am going to quit and take the aloe vera as the drug can cause seizures, harm the kidneys, pnuemonia, fractures, oh and even Lupis!

When did you take the ACV, BS & Honey, was it once a day, before or after meals or did you take it only when you felt the reflux.

Hi Frederick,
According to Earth Clinic's contributor Ted, whom I just visited in Bangkok a few weeks ago and the one who has written extensively on apple cider vinegar and baking soda on this site, a remedy should work within 3 days. If it doesn't, he said it's time to try something else. That is Ted's golden rule. He kept telling me this when I visited him.

Take Betaine Hcl with Pepsin Supplements in between meals. This will solve the problem temporarily. Lower Stomach Acid can result in Acid Reflux. Good Health

The Apple Cyder Vineger thing REALLY does work its astonishing, its a wonder why it isnt more widely known as a remedy. I've had GERD/bad heartburn for months (with Laryngitis)and it was making me miserable, after stumbling across this website by accident I'd thought what have I got to lose.
So after going to Tescos I took 1 tablespoon ACV, 1/8 spoon bicarb of soda, 1 spoon honey with a splash of water, downed in one (it tastes disgusting), and bobs yer uncle 2 hours later it was gone, 1 week later I've had slight symptoms but one dose of the elixer and it was gone again.
I only take it now as a cure and not prevention and fingers crossed I'll be OK.
I've never ever posted a message before on a forum, but was compelled to do so and will spread the word!

Some one posted that when she took ACV, it gave her terrible acid reflux. Another lady told her to add a PINCH of baking soda to it. IT WORKS! I gave up taking ACV before because it caused acid reflux, too. So after I read the advice to add a pinch of soda, I gave it another try. Now I can drink 1 teaspoon of ACV, added a generous pinch of baking soda and a little honey; and I'm not experiencing acid reflux. THANK YOU so much!

Hi Ted,
I have been trying the Apple Cider Vinegar and Bicarb Soda for terrible indigestion, heartburn, acid reflux. At first it seemed to be working, but now I think it is just getting worse. I have a lot of pain from my front through to my back. Can you please tell me if I should be doing this if I don't have a gallbladder? I had it removed 3 years ago as it functioned below 5%..

This is a great method. Also have a quick look into food combining , that is when you combined alot of protein and carbos in the same meal. What happens is the enter the stomach and alkalines rush out to digest the carbs and acid for the proteins... When they meet they just nuetralise each other... They try again and again and finally the food gets pushed through and not digested properly and we end up even more hungry as the body try to grab at nutrients. I think that maybe reflux stems from this. I now have fruit for breakfast and then a protein lunch ( protein nicely absorbed after a fruit bed ) only have fruit in the morning while body is in elimination stage.... or 3 hours after eating other food, as it breaks down so quickly and starts to ferment if stuck behind other food, this can start to cause yeasts) and then depending on your body type and blood type some carb and vege feeds.

Works like a charm! Really!! I had an endoscopy scheduled because I was feeling terrible, with an acid reflux that nothing could stop. The Prevacid that I had been taking was useless. Since I had to wait about 1 month for my appointment, I stopped taking Prevacid and started taking the ACV baking soda remedy described here... I felt GREAT about 3 days into it, and PERFECT within 3 weeks. Got the endoscopy done: NOTHING!! Seriously, no inflamation anywhere, including the duodenum. Last time I had an endoscopy done I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia: GONE! Go figure... I must warn you again though: BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE BAKING SODA. Too much and you will end up in much worse shape. I used only 1/8 of a teaspoon, with ACV. Never measured the resulting pH, but preferred to err on the safe side. Good luck, and take care!

Ingrid, people get acid reflux because they don't have enough acid in the stomach not because there is too much. Nexium and others like it decrease stomach acid. The stomach acid needs to be within a certain pH range.
Without stomach acid, you can't absorb nutrients properly, and you can't prevent bacteria growth in your stomach! You also can't digest food properly.
I was taking ACV with bicarb soda and it made me ill so I now take it just with water. You could also drink lemon juice with water.
Google why stomach acid is good for you.

Nexium prevents us from properly digesting our food, thus we become deficiant in many vital nutriants. Nutriants will help us heal.... ACV, does not interfere with our body the way pharmacuticles do.

I no longer take Nexium since drinking ACV and BS everyday. I stopped taking the drug every other day and then every 3-4 days and so on till I was free. As with ANY drug you should never just stop taking it. Your body will revolt!

I have been taking nexium for about 7 years, I am 55 years old, I have started ACV With BS about one week ago, and I can tell you that I can feel the difference already, all of this is for my acid reflux. But my question is, should I be worried if I stop taking nexium?
Is it possible to have ACV and BS with the nexium for long, until I feel secure to go off of the nexium?. It is very important for me to know this as soon as possible.
I am also taking BP(blood presure) medicine.
Thank you very much.

For most of my life I would take baking soda for my severe acid reflux and after only minutes it would do its wonders of nuetralizing the acid, after a couple of burps I was good to go. But lately its been so bad that even putting 5 or more tablespoons in 8 oz of water didn't help.... So today, after finding this site I tried apple cider vinegar and although I had to take a few doses over a couple of hours, it seens to make the pain tolerable. Now keep in mind that my acid reflux is an extreme case that cases vomitting and on average 12 to 15 hours of level 9 pain ( 1 to 10 scale). For more mild heartburn and reflux I will swear by baking soda, and now , because of the wonderful site I am becoming convienced about the positive uses of ACV.

I developed severe acid reflux after antibiotics and prednisone for a respiratory virus in March. I was taking 2 nexium 40mg, sulcrate, zantac, and domperidone, and had a very limited diet. My acid reflux was still awful. My gastroscope showed Barrett's esophagus and severe gastritis. I had elevated liver enzymes, gallbladder attacks, severe weight loss, and chronic fatigue. Previously I didn't have a problem with acid reflux and led an active life.
I started the apple cider vinegar with baking soda three days ago and can't believe the improvement already. Originally I used 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar and a 1/4 tsp of baking soda and worked up to 2 tbsp of cider and 1/2 a teaspoon of baking soda. I have been able to stop domperidone and zantac and only take 1 nexium now. I hope to be able to soon stop taking any nexium. I still have some burning and use DGL, baking soda, and chew gum. I tried several times in the past to reduce the nexium but the burning in my chest was always so unbearable that I always started taking it again. I am concerned about the 2 days off of the ACV. Do I wait to do this once things have settled down? Thank you so much Ted! I feel like I am getting my life back.

I'm a 39 year old female with horrible acid reflux. I had my gallbladder removed about 10 years ago. I still would get horrible bouts of acid reflux after eating anything tomato based, spicy, creamy, or acidy (like fruit) I tried the ACV (2 tbl spoons) with 1/4 tsp of baking soda and 8 oz of water last night. I was attempting to enjoy some red wine and knew I would have a horrible night of reflux. I made the mix and drank it right before bed. It WORKS! No sour burps or acid burning it went away completely! I have slept with antacids, Pepto and pepcid by my bedside and none of it ever worked but this did! Thank you so much! I'm finally not afraid to eat and drink the things I love!

I'd been having terrible heartburn for over a week. So bad that that my kids and husband were very worried. A few years ago I had six ulcers! But didn't want to start the standard gastro treatments lansoprazole or purple pills - I'm well aware of the downsides to them. My gastric problem was probably caused by my ADHD, I frequently forget to eat because I get so hyperfocused I don't notice I'm hungry! So, I went looking for a homeopathic cure and found your website. I read a whole bunch of stuff and probably confused one thing with another nevertheless this is what happened: I made the ACV mixture adding the Baking Soda also 2 tbsp Aloe juice; 1 tbsp of organic honey; 1 tbsp of'Coconut Oil (using warm water, which melts the honey and VCO). I tried with and without the VCO and for those who find the ACV drink unpalatable the VCO helps alot! The heartburn stopped in 24 hours! Major miracle. I felt focused, relaxed, energetic and pain free. The only side effect of note was/is gas. Is this from the VCO? Is there anything I can do about that? And is it OK to blend all this together? Should I be drinking it before or after or with a meal? I don't know about the other magical effects of VCO its only been 2 days! Thanks for this great site, its already helped me a lot!
