[MAYBE] 09/01/2007: Sco from Jefferson, NJ writes: "I've used one 29 oz bottle of _______ coconut oil inconsistently over a 6 month period. Used it to cook eggs & yam fries. Also regularly put 1 tbs in my hot oatmeal. Haven't noticed much change in my weight, but I eat a lot of junk food at night, every night, cause I'm always on the road. Yesterday I had some negative side effects that I'm guessing came from the VCO. In the morning I had it in my oatmeal along with green tea extract and raw cocao. No problem. Later in the day I tood two spoonfulls prior to heading out for work. About ten minutes later I stopped at Wendy's and got a small chili and downed that following the instructions of a popular TV Cure-All guy who says to eat it before a meal for weight loss. Well, not sure if the added saturated fats in the chili meat affected me or the VCO or both but soon after eating the chili I started feeling light headed, weak (like I wanted to pass out), dizzy and chest pains. Thought I was having a heart attack. Finished work, went home and right to bed. Slept pretty well but upon arising still felt dizzy & weak. Ate only veggies all day today and no VCO and still had the symptoms most of the day. Around 8 at night symptoms started subsiding noticably. Now at 2 a.m. i'm feeling pretty much back to normal. I'm thinking the two spoonfuls was too much too fast. I never took that amount before. Forgot to mention, the night prior to waking up and having it in my oatmeal and later taking the 2 spoonfuls before the chili, I did use it as a spread on my dark wheat toast with honey about an hour before bedtime. Noticed a very restless sleep, as though I'd drunk a cup of coffee before bed. All-in-all it seems like I o-d'ed on VCO. I'm going to try reintroducing it orally in a more gradual and regular regiment and see what happens. Also - I've been using this stuff on my face after a shave in the winter and it really gives my face a glow. Haven't experienced any zits; but I only shave every three days so I'm only apply the VCO that often."

I took them as directed, 3 with a meal...for the first 2 days I was a little nauseaus, but not too bad..the 3rd day I became severely bloated with terrible gas...my heart raced some but not bad. I have stopped taking them now, but wanted to give them to my dog because I read where it would cure his bad hip problem....I gave him one coconut pill a night, for the first 2 nights he felt great and walked better, after the 3rd dose, he feels terrible has diareaha and his hip problem is so bad he can hardly move and cries if he does. I was shocked to see so much negative feedback on coconut oil and realized I wasn't alone, but don't understand why it continues to be praised as a miracle cure. I am all for natural cures and continue to try different things, but I firmly believe coconut oil does more harm then good to people and pets."

One week ago however, I started having heart palpitations, high blood pressure and tachycardia (rapid heart rate), even at rest, that landed me in the ER. I had never had these problems before and I am wondering if the oil boosted my metabolism so much that it is causing these symptoms. Is there anyone else that has experienced this? I feel great otherwise, but my unbelieving doctor has told me to stop taking the oil and put me on antihypertensive meds. I was taking a tablespoon with every meal. Was this too much? Can somebody please help me?"

I would highly recommend that you don't just eat the oil with food... but use it to cook food like veggies or eggs. You will still get the benefits. Think about it. You wouldn't dip into a tub of butter and just eat it... or drink vegetable oil. Treat this the same way... use it in food or to cook food.... you may find that you tolerate it much better this way. Also do not confuse coconut oil with coconut milk or juice... they are three different things."

It was a few years ago - so that it all I recall right now. It took may things to bring our health back. Later, I cut back on coconut oil and I have only recently re introduced it to fight a serious cold in the sinuses and the throat and the lungs. It helped immensely. But i believe it is important to keep other known healthy oil in the diet, too. Olive, fish, etc."

I could not stomach the thought of taking it after that so now I bathe in 2 tablespoons. Not sure I am getting the same health benefits as taking it internally, but it sure does soften my skin! I would suggest to others to start with 1/8th teaspoon if they are going to take it internally. 1 teaspoon is probably too much to start. Build up slowly. And don't take it after a big meal!"

[WARNING!] 04/06/2008: Lindsey F from Dover, NH writes: "I have been using coconut oil as a moisturizer for about a year now.
I read on numerous internet sites and blogs about how it was a miracle product for all kinds of skin ailments including acne.
So I started using on my face and body--it has been a great replacement for body lotion, and has mildly improved the keritosis pilaris on my upper arms, but using it on my face was a BIG mistake! I am still suffering from the consequences (pimples all over, including places where I had NEVER had them before). I have since learned that people with small pores, like me, should not use thick natural oils on the face, because the molecules are too large. People with larger pores (darker skin usually) can benefit from it, but it can really clog up people will small pores! Jojoba and tea tree oils are the only oils suitable for my delicate face.
Just want to warn others!"

[YEA] 04/02/2008: Russell (essah@mail.com) from Toronto, Canada writes: "Used many oils including virgin coconut oil in many of my skin care cosmetic formulations. But thats history. My problem has always been cystic acne. In my late forties and it is without a doubt extrmely debilitating. Large cysts would form on my face and it would take weeks for them to subside leaving a purple mark for many months. After My business mail order business went down the toilet due to 9/11. Nobody trusted the mail. I realized I had a klo of virgin coconut oil left in my refridgerater. Literally stumbled on the idea that VCO would help acne. Skeptical about putting straight oil on oily acne skin. I gave it a shot because one of my best sellers of my cosmetic formulations was an oil based, black head removal cream containg organic jojoba oil, actually it is a remarkable oil for rducing large pores. Bottom line is that cysts or leasins would be reduced within 48 to 72 hours. I was stunned to say the least. For two years I have had almost totaly relief from a lifetime problem. I have just started taking it internally since I realized I have had candida, probably for 35 plus years because of the massive amounts of tetracycline, minocin etc. (unconscionably destructive acne anitibiotics) It truly does smooth and soften the skin. My face looks like the moon, from acne scarring, although my wife says I exaggerate but It makes me look younger for sure and for certain. Don't use refined or fractionated coconut oil on your face it must be unrefined virgin oil. It really is miraculous. Cheers all."

[YEA] 03/10/2008: John Smith (shanetyrone2@yahoo.com) from Battle Creek, Michigan writes: "I see a lot of people still preaching sun avoidance. If you will only think about it, you will realize nothing could be more unnatural than avoiding the sun. The most important thing is to moisturize with a good plant based oil. I use EVOO, and though it takes considerably longer than more popular oils to absorb, once absorbed it does a much better job healing. Conventional wisdom says there is no such thing as a protective base tan. Reality shows there is.You do need to build up slowly, but a half hour a day of full body exposure is really quite minimal, and will pay benefits in terms of natural Vitamin D production. Don't hide from the sun, you will make yourself sick. Use moderation, and moisturize, and you will be much happier and healthier."

[YEA] 03/08/2008: Jennifer (jrr31576@hotmail.com) from Mesquite, Texas writes: "I LOVE virgin unrefined coconut oil as a daily moisturizer! I can see a huge difference in my skin on my face as well as everywhere else on my body. Here's a great place to find it cheap, and yes, it is virgin unrefined organic. Soaperschoice.com. You have to buy 7 lbs at a at a time, but it costs only $3.88 a pound! I use it for cooking and find it to be a wonderful taste in vegetables! Even my kids like it!. It clears up acne, diaper rash, and dandruf. Here's my natural beauty regimine: My face and body wash is a natural coconut oil based castile soap mixed with baking soda as a natural exfolient. The soap I use is planet brand dish soap. Innexpensive and completely natural ans safe for the environment. I also use the soap as a shampoo. (They have a great website. Go visit it.) I use hydrogen peroxide 3% as a facial toner. then I use the Coconut oil as my daily moisturizer for face and body. I use only a light dusting of mineral makeup, if any at all. I brush my teeth with hydrogen peroxide 3% and a baking soda sea salt mix. This has been the best stuff for my teeth I've ever used! My teeth feel increadibly clean My complexion has improved 100% since using the oil. I have had roseca type spots on my cheeks which have greatly diminished over the past 2 weeks since I started using the oil. I can see fine lines on my face disappearing! I usually only wash my face in the morning then apply the oil. At night, I just put more oil all over my face before going to bed. My skin is naturally normal-dry, so this might be too much for someone with oily complexion. Experiment for yourself. Remember, anytime you need natural products like this, dont pay retail. There are plenty of candle and soap supply places that carry this stuff in bulk for great prices, and are available to the public....including essential oils. Do your homework and start making your own natural homemade beauty products! There are thousands of recipes all over the web. It's not hard. Thanks to earthclinic for being here on the web and for everyone who posts their stories! God bless each one of you, and feel free to email me with any questions."

However when calling me up she kept ranting on about this miracle coconut oil and how she read about it in one of her anti-ageing books. She remarked that while she was watching tv my younger sister kept looking over at her, but my mum just ignored this, then she noticed that my sister was staring at her the next day. Eventually my sister asked "what are you using on your face?" to which my mum replied "nothing..." My sister then asked well have you got makeup or bronzer on..and again mum said "no". She told my sister that she had been swallowing 3 teaspoons a day of organic coconut oil. My sister couldnt stop remarking how young my mum looked, with all her wrinkles reduced by over 50%. Well now my sister who is only 16 is addicted to the stuff. Coconut oil really is a mircale."

[YEA] 08/07/2007: Dan from Arizona writes: "I first read about using virgin coconut oil (VCO) from _______'s book "_________..." I was quite skeptical, but thought this is something I could experiment with. The promises were great, and I had little to lose. Having been very skeptical, I am reporting only what I know to be a true, reproducible result of using coconut oil.
I began using it about 4 months ago. Beginning with about six teaspoons per day, I immediately noticed an improvement in my skin. I had less acne and my skin became smoother. There was also less oil on my skin and scalp. Since the age of 16, and I'm 38 now, I've had a problem with EXTREME oiliness of the skin and hair loss. The oiliness was also associated with itching and scalp irritation, crusts developing around the corners of my nose and in the skinfolds of my ears, including flaky ear wax. Other symptoms I had, whether or not related to my skin problem, were body odor, bad breath, weight gain and an extremely high appetite. Most likely it all was due to a Candida Ablicans infestation.
The VCO tempers most of these symptoms quite a lot. I'm sure VCO is directly responsible for lowering my scalp irritation, lessening scalp itching, reducing acne, eliminating the crusty, flaky skin anywhere and everywhere it accumulated and making my skin much smoother. Blackheads were a big problem for me, and they seem to be reduced somewhat. What hair I do have on the top of my head is thicker and more lustrous.
VCO does seem to somewhat temper my extremely high appetite.
In addition to VCO, I do have about 400mcg of Selenium per day. Selenium seems to completely eliminate body odor, almost completely arrests the falling out of my hair and helps lessen the extreme amount of oil accumulation on my scalp and skin.
I should mention that nearly all of these symptoms went away when I was on a very low carbohydrate diet and without the use of coconut oil or selenium. Again, this shows that mine is probably a Candida (Yeast) related condition.
Back to the Coconut oil. Here are things associated with VCO that I have not experienced: I've not noticed any weight loss, nor increased metabolism. It does not seem to help my sleep patterns. I have not concluded whether it improves my bathroom regularity. My digestion has always been impressively great, so there's nothing to improve along these lines.. Sometimes I do experience a higher energy level than I'm used to while using VCO. Historically, I'm a pretty low energy person. VCO may change that, but it remains to be seen.
Rest assured that taking VCO orally does improve the skin and it happens right away. In my opinion, VCO may fight Yeast infections and Candida related problems. Best of luck."

[YEA] 07/23/2007: Ray from Charleston, SC writes: "I started taking Virgin Coconut Oil a few months ago at a rate of 2 to 3 tablespoons a day and applying it lightly to the face, arms, and legs I noticed skin tone improved and my skin that was always dry to the point where it itched if I didn't apply lotion right after a bath (and I don't use strong soaps that help to dry out the skin, I use the one advertised as 1/4 cleansing cream) was gone. I didn't notice the weight loss but I did have the small white headed pimples on my face and a few on my chest as some others have had. I think this is cleansing effect. It two made me worry about applying it, but I continued (I only apply at night before bedtime)and the white headed pimples left after about 4 to 7 days. I ran out of coconut oil and actually waited for more for about a month (UPS said the oil spilled, so they ordered another one). I started applying again and the white heads were there the next morning after my first night's application, this time in a smaller amount and instead of 4 to 7 days before clearing it cleared in 2 days. This time I also noticed my bodyfat has dropped. I hope I won't run out of Virgin Coconut Oil again."

[YEA] 06/26/2007: C.J. from Rossford, Ohio writes: "I developed adult acne at age 18 despite dry skin. Recently, I was told to take zinc for my acne, but was already taking 200% and didn't want to risk overdosing, so I thought I'd crush a tablet and make it into a mask with coconut oil. Coconut oil sounded really good to me as it would moisturize and fight acne at the same time. Using this mask daily has made my acne much less red and started the healing process on my lingering acne scars. The zinc promotes healing and the coconut oil is supposed to have antibiotic properties. I crush one zinc tablet and add the contents of one coconut oil capsule to make a mask. Leave it on for 20-60 minutes. The longer the better, in my experience. Rinse it off with water and a mild soap. Follow up with a balancing toner."

I noticed straight away on the first morning after doing this that the coconut oil had dried and shrunk the few blemishes I had on my face. It had also left my skin feeling lovely and smooth. The dark circles under my eyes hadn't disappeared but I felt that they were a bit lighter. After the second night of this routine the circles seemed lighter again. On the third evening I was too tired to bother with massaging the oil into my feet, so I just used it on my face- the next morning when I woke up and looked in the mirror those dark circles had almost completely disappeared! Thank you so much for this wonderful site. It's already been more helpful than years worth of expensive creams, lotions and potions filled with nasty chemicals :-) [EC: Nicole is referring to our latest Fountain of Youth remedy, using coconut oil to massage the feet and calves.]"

I went to bed feeling like a grease ball, and the next day my face started to break out with bumps all over it. So I figured my skin is too senstivie. But I have found that if I rub the oil on my body before I use a sunless tanning spray or foam, streaks and uneven color are prevented from forming. I will rub more on drier areas, such as knee caps and tops of feet, and this helps with those areas becoming too dark. Just takes a while longer to dry."

It does moisturize but it also for me caused more breakouts and made me oilier. Honey works much better for me (I rinse it off after a few minutes) I do use coconut oil on my daughter's sensitive skin for general moisturizing and it is effective even for deep moisturizing."

[YEA] 01/18/2007: Amy from Boise, Idaho writes: "I have been using topical prescription acne meds for 2 years and have done pretty well. This winter I have had a terrible time with dry skin and acne. I have tried exfoliators and lots of moisturizer to relieve the dry skin flakes and have seen no improvement. Just more pimples and flakes. One morning I woke up with a large rash on my neck where I had used an exfoliator. That night I started using coconut oil on my face and neck. (not virgin, Spectrum brand refined) My neck looked much better the next day and I did not wake up with any new pimples which I was very surprised. It was scary putting something so oily on my face! My large pimples under my neck went away in 3 days. My flaky skin was gone in one day. My skin looks great, soon I will try the virgin coconut oil for my face and to include in my diet. This is the first time I have ever been able to say that something natural and possibly a fad REALLY worked for me."

[YEA] 04/25/2006: Brook from MO writes: "I have heard from my uncle, who recently started using coconut oil, all the benefits. He mentioned it can be used on the face and body as a moisturizer and acne treatment, sun screen, helps prevent wrinkles, removes sun spots and warts, and helps with weight loss when ingested. I had flat warts on my face, and have been using coconut oil on my face and ingesting it two to three times a day for about a month. The warts are gone, but my face, chest, and back have horribly broken out. I can't think of it being from anything but the coconut oil. I also have been eating three tablespoons a day for a month for weight loss, and have currently not lost any weight. I wanted some advice as to if I am doing something wrong, or if my body just doesn't react well to this remedy."

SKIN LESIONS

[YEA] 04/30/2007: Suzie from Brodheadsville, PA writes: "I had come down with some skin lesions and went to about a dermatologist for his help. He gave me a cream that I used faithfully, but it just didn't work. I grew concerned because I have a history of basal cell cancer and I didn't want these lesions to develop into that. About 6 weeks ago I was in Whole Foods and saw this jar of ________ Coconut Oil. It was the expeller pressed, unrefined kind. I purchased it with every intent to learn how to cook with it; however, I came across another web site where someone mentioned they were using it as a skin cream. So, what the heck, I tried it as a massage on both legs and arms. Oh I am just in a state of awe that my lesions are fading! I am so excited, so pleased that a $10 jar of coconut oil could make my skin healthier. I'm using it on my face too, wow those fine lines are fading too! I will continue to use this day and night on my skin, and will start tomorrow with taking it orally."Reply to this Feedback E-mail this Feedback Print this Feedback Back to Top

I was also taking Bee propolis which also helped with the viral load. One well cooked turnip, daily, has also helped keep my lungs loose enough to manage, and yes coffee helps when things are bad. [YEA] 12/22/2006: Jay from Manila, Philippines writes: "In the Philippines, study have shown that coconut oil can cure HIV. Test subjects were given at least 12 tablespoon of coconut oil a day, and and after 6 months, HIV have been cured. I have been using coconut oil for years, and it has greatly helped me with my skin tone and digestive system. Some people have diarrhea right after taking coconut oil. This is normal. Doctors here say that the coconut oil helps clean our intestines and removes all toxins inside our body. The diarrhea effect is only temporary and it will last for 2 to 3 days only. I recommend to keep using it. - Jay, Manila Philippines "

[YEA] 11/29/2006: David from Memphis, TN writes: "I have been taking coconut oil for five or six years now. About five years ago, my daughter, who was in college at the time, came down with mononucleosis. I overnighted her a bottle of monolaurin, the main ingredient of lauric acid, which is only found in any quantity in coconut oil and human milk. My daughter was diagnosed on a Tuesday, she got the monolaurin on Wednesday and on Friday, nine days later she had no symptoms and quit taking it. The following Monday (that's 13 days post diagnosis) she had lab work done and was completely normal. Other dorm-mates of hers had mono for months. Coconut oil, lauric acid and monolaurin supposedly lifts the lipid envelopes of lipid viruses and bacteria.
Most colds are caused by lipid enveloped viruses as are a number of major viral infections.
Just last Saturday, a friend of mine called to tell me he had a horrible cold and had made an appointment to see and ENT physician on Monday. I told him to take three tablespoons of coconut oil. When I saw him on Monday, he was obviously fine. He told me he had taken two tablespoons on Saturday and Sunday and was fine on Monday so he cancelled his doctor's appointment.
I take it all the time but every now and then I run out. Usually I will get sick when I do. Then I go get some more. It is particularly effective for sinus infections. I just snort some into my sinus cavities. Most people are amazed when I prescribe it and it works. But I have seen it happen so many times now, I just expect it to work."

[YEA] 04/18/2006: Peter from NYC writes: "I've had a flu that lasted 3 months. I caught a terrible flu from my father, who had just come back from California. The flu would weaken, but never go away. It gave me terrible aches and pains, constant post nasal drip (but always with clear mucus, never green and infected), plugged ears, sinus aches, very low energy at times, sore throat, and very persistent. I found this site, and nearly made myself ill trying to take Apple Cider Vinegar (Heinz, without the so-called mother). But I kept taking it, and the flu still persisted. Also took lots of Vitamin C, and gargled with H. Peroxide and bubbled in ears, but still this thing wouldn't go away. Finally, I bought Coconut Oil from a local health food store, extra virgin, cold pressed, 24 hours later the flu is gone. I can hardly believe it. I guess Coconut oil is unique and resembles in some way mother's milk, which keeps nursing babies healthy. All I know is nothing else worked with this killer flu but Coconut oil, and I'm certain had I not taken it my sinuses and ears and aches would still be dragging me down."

WARTS
2 YEA
[YEA] 05/10/2007: Ashley from Baltimore, MD writes: "Virgin coconut oil cured my plantar warts. I had some plantar warts on my foot for about a year, then I started rubbing coconut oil on my feet to help soften the skin and make walking more comfortable. After about 2 months of this, I was just starting to think of going to the doctor to have them removed (with much dread) when I noticed that the warts had shrunk. Then about 1-2 weeks later, the dead skin just peeled off like a callous, revealing soft healthy skin underneath. It wasn't an overnight cure, but the time was a small price to pay for not having them dug out! I know they were warts because they had the little black spots in them, they hurt or bled if scraped, and a couple of small ones had appeared elsewhere on my foot. I also use coconut oil in food preparation on a regular basis, as well as topically on all areas of the skin."Reply to this Feedback E-mail this Feedback Print this Feedback Back to Top

I thought it was a boil, but my doctor thought it was a wart and suggested putting salicycic acid on it. I did but it burned like crazy after a few hours and looked only slightly better after 2 days. I was supposed to give the acid 10 days, but decided that was not the right cure. Instead I rubbed I coconut oil into the strange growth a few times a day. It disappeared after only 3 days. I wonder if it would work for moles too?"
