My 5year old daughter had a severe case of molluscum contagiosum. She started with about 10 of the warts on her buttocks, and they started multiplying and spreading very fast. Within a year she had I estimate over a hundred all down her legs. And my 3 other children started to get them too. I freaked out. Twice I went to the doctor, and both times he told me to let it run its course. Yeah right; that was what I did for a year and look what happened! And what if it spread to my newborn baby? My daughter was getting self conscious, you could see them on her legs under her school uniform. I had to do something. I tried ACV, clay baths, a product from the chemist for warts, Epsom salts and olive oil mixed with lemon myrtle essential oil, or even pulling them out with tweezers. Nothing worked.

I then tried Lugol's iodine, and the little buggers started to crust over after 3 days of applying Lugols twice a day with a Q-tip, and when the crust fell off, nothing was underneath!

You could actually see the white center (that is the virus) soak all the iodine up and look like a blackhead, YEAH! That's exactly where the iodine needed to go. Within one month all my children are Mollusum free. You cannot describe the relief I feel, I have to share that.

Iodine cures brittle and easily broken finger nails. It makes the fingernails hard, chip proof and unbreakable. Dip your fingernails in colorless iodine once a day for 1 week; then once a week for 3 to 4 weeks; then once a month. It dries almost instantly. It begins hardening the nails under the cuticle and as the nail grows out it stays hard and un breakable. Once the new hard nail reaches the length you want, you will never again have chipped and broken nails. No need for all those expensive formulas sold in beauth parlors and chemist shops.

I second what Stephanie says about iodine and the nails. I have had very poor nails all my life to the point where I never wore rings, not wanting to draw attention to my ugly hands. Also anxiety made me bite and pick at them 'til they bled sometimes. I now take 100 mgs (yes one hundred milligrams) of Iodoral every day. My body was starving due to celiac which went undiagnosed for decades. When I paint my skin with Lugol's it disappears in just a few hours (2-4).

Besides my nails and hair improving, iodine has helped me with snoring, salivary stones (swollen and hard salivary glands under the jaw bones), and hay fever is a thing of the past. I don't need the daily claritin anymore and I do not need 5-htp for anxiety now, I only take one or two at the most at night for sleep, where I was taking it all through the day.

When I first started taking iodine I went through a little detox period, but it was well worth it. I still have a long way to go to reach good health, but Iodine is the first remedy that helped and keeps on helping. I imagine that soon when big-med and big-pharma get wind of this movement it will become impossible to get iodine in any form, so I am stock-piling for the future. I never want to go without it again. I do not use kelp because of potential heavy metals and chemical contamination.

Good health to all...

Hi. This is actually to all the folk leaving out the % of LI they are using. I feel a bit frustrated that many posts give remedies and methods for using Lugols Iodine, but fail to give the % they are using in their well meaning post...this little detail is important and, when left out, makes their remedy almost useless to other folks. Thank you

EC: This particular post from 2009 used colorless iodine, which is not Lugol's iodine. See example here. It shouldn't have been posted on the Lugol's page, unfortunately.

Oral Vs Transdermal

Posted by Tricia (Ireland) on 09/24/2009 84 posts

I finally got a chemist to order me a bottle of lugols iodine ( I hate buying on the internet ). What I've received is Lugols Iodine but even though I specified colorless the only one he could get me is colored. The description on the bottle is " Lugols iodine B.P. - aqueous iodine oral solution - for nutritional supplementation of iodine only - each ml contains 126 mg of iodine derived from iodine and potassium iodide." It then goes on to state that it is for animals only and to paint or spray it on the animals skin and how to orally supplement the animals watering trough as well.

My question is is this the same iodine that people orally supplement with just with an ability to stain?

LUGOL'S COMES IN MANY % STRENGTHS: In Canada we can still get 5%, nowhere else anymore that I have found. Brown iodine by Lugol's is comprised of both iodine & iodide. Iodine is a black crystalline structure, hence the colour. Iodide is what a chemist creates when they add potassium to iodine, as I understand it. This creates a salt or white crystalline structure, so potassium iodide is colourless. Also good for application to places that would show iodine staining & still good for you. Dr Greenberg's is one type of health potassium iodide which can be taken internally & is almost tasteless. Four to five drops five days a week, then none for two days. I ordered it from Finlandia, Vancouver, B.C. I am using it to shrink lymphoma enlarged nodes. Do not EVER take any tincture of iodine internally as it contains isopropyl alcohol & it is NOT meant for internal use. Lugol's is already only available elsewhere @ a far lower %, except (so far) still 5% in Canada, I have checked this out. In New Zealand, for instance, I understand they reduced it to 0.04%!! Almost useless. It is worth sending for, a true miracle cure for so many things, including lowering cholesterol, anti-inflammation for heart disease, arthritis, antidote for flu, as little as one drop in a full glass of water. Get an extra cap as the rubber stopper allows the strength to dissipate into the air over time. Lugol's is the original folk remedy, hence a threat to Big Pharma as it is the most utterly affordable versatile cure for so many things, since it is an anti fungal, & antiviral & chelates heavy metals like mercury fillings, & it is anti parasitic, iodine is one of the best things on this earth! Cancer is likely fungal/viral in origin. Worked for me! BTW ROOT CANALS are the perfect hiding place for disease causing microbes, & can also cause cancer & make cancer return. Get rid of these festering causes of disease asap.

Hi Juliana from Canada - I get my 5% Lugol's iodine from London Drugs or Shoppers Drug Mart (although you can try other pharmacies - including those in places like Safeway or Walmart, etc.). You need to ask the pharmacist to order it for you - for some reason, they don't keep it in stock. I believe it took about a week from the time I ordered it to the time I received it. I can't remember the price (the bottle lasts a very long time) but it was quite reasonable. Hope this helps! Best of health, Bess

Bess from Calgary: why don't you get your Lugols from Script or from Cambrian? I recently bought the best ever Lugols from the herbalist Tony Pantelleresco. He was recently at my house where I hosted a seminar (was really helpful) Tony has a channel on u tube where he teaches people how to make many remedies including how to make Lugols. As well has a video on how to heal with turpentine. My lugols is sooooo concentrated it is 15%.

Really neat stuff.

Hi Juliana...To obtain a lugol's iodine source in Canada just type "Lugol's Iodine Canada" in ebay.com search or type it into Google Search. The lists displayed will show some vendors from Canada.

An example, from ebay.com, is given here:

Also, most vets and pet shops sell lugol's iodine(sometimes also called Aqueous Iodine) in Canada, another good source.

B.P. stands for British Pharmaceutical so it sounds like it's safe for human consumption. However it may need to be diluted with distilled water.

I bought a bottle of this recently and have been researching whether it's safe to drink.

Look up BP USP EP.

Hope this helps

I've never heard of anyone talk of 'drinking' Lugol's Iodine. It is added to water (not tap), by the drop - a tiny amount. If it's Lugol's iodine, it will say it on the label; if it only says 'BP' then it's not Lugol's - Lugol's is a recognised process of making and mixing iodine and iodide, not a brand name.

I bought lugol's 15% iodine and I read up you have to take other vitamins with this. I'm taking vitamin b complex and garlic capsules which contain 1000mg a day.

Is there any other vitamin I need to buy or take with iodine?

I use Lugol's iodine for everything...transdermally and orally. Initially, I had some mild detox symptoms but now just positive results. I have even used it as eye drops...conjunctivitis....just one drop of 5% Lugols well diluted...in half a small glass of water. Very effective nasally too.

But I'm wondering if this might also work for people with sleep apnea.

I've been taking Lugols iodine for 3 weeks now. This week, my dose is 7.5 mg which equals 3 drops of 2% solution. I've been extremely regular right from the start of taking iodine. My only unpleasant side effects have been sweating more than usual and feeling sleepy some days. On those days, I do salt loading with sea salt. Yesterday, I was very hungry while waiting for dinner to cook. A friend had given me some Simply Nature Veggie & Flaxseed chips, so I ate quite a few before dinner. Nothing else about my diet was out of the ordinary. I always eat a.huge salad of spinach or kale or mixed spinach/kale. Then, today...WHAM... I got a huge case of diarrhea totally out of the blue! When I read up on flaxseed I found out it can cause diarrhea and can contribute to eliminating heavy metals because it has lots of soluble fiber. So, beware, if you're on an iodine protocol and are having a BM daily, flaxseed can send it into overdrive!

Hi

I have hypothyroid and Candida issues. So, I started on the Lugols Iodine protocol + Accompanying Nutrients + Alkalizing protocol suggested by Bill Thompson 4 days back. Today is day 4.

On Day 2, I noticed that my tongue was was turning a little brown. Day 3 - yesterday, I am having a little bit of throat discomfort. Today, I am having severe discomfort in the throat and cough as well.

Please suggest what needs to be done to mitigate the issues. Is it time to take a break for next 2 days or should I add something to the protocol? I am doing 2 drops of Lugols (5% - J.Crow's lugols Iodine) once a day.

Thanks

Hi Sunitha...I'm sorry that you're having problems with the iodine protocol, but this is quite common in the West where people have been eating poor processed food for decades.

When you supplement lugols iodine, two problems can occur:

* If you don't bother to take all the iodine companion nutrients exactly as advised then you probably will have problems. These companion nutrients are critical to ensure that vital enzymes and catalysts are present so that the iodine is correctly absorbed, converted, assimilated and used in the thyroid and used throughout the rest of the body. So if you don't take these companion nutrients then you may well have problems(which are usually all due to a poor processed food diet -- lacking in these nutrients). The essential reasons for taking the iodine companion nutrients are all explained here and here.

* Iodine is also a magnificent detoxer so, when you take iodine, it will help to remove cadmium, aluminum, mercury, lead, arsenic, bromine and fluorine from your cells and will dump these poisons directly into the blood. Consequently, all sorts of other side-effects are possible from iodine detox which is wholly dependent on your own high poison intake from your processed food diet and lifestyle. I also suspect that you are having bromine detox symptoms -- see this link.

To confirm what heavy metal and halide poisons you have in your body, I would also advise that you simply get a hair analysis done(quite cheap). This will tell you your body's heavy metal and halide poison status.

If you suspect that your body is high in heavy metals then I would supplement liquid cilantro drops and chlorella. To get rid of fluorine and bromine, you should take lugols iodine(with all companion nutrients) in amounts that are low and slow. The Borax Protocol also helps to get rid of fluorine.

For now, I would stop your iodine protocol and just take the iodine companion nutrients as advised for a week then restart your protocol at low dose initially. If that doesn't work then I would do a serious heavy metal detox for at least a month then retry the full iodine protocol again.

I have been taking 8 drops of 5% Lugols Iodine every day for the last 8 years without any problems. I'm pretty sure that my own heavy metal and halide status are at healthy low levels and not a problem and I always take the iodine companion nutrients at their correct dosages to avoid any further problems.

Something else which might interest people who live in the US.

Selenium is vital for the production of glutathione peroxidase(GP) in the body which is essential and critical for both liver health and thyroid health. GP is also vital for the body's detox pathways.

So here is a particularly interesting map showing selenium deficient areas in the US (which are colored dark blue):

Selenium Deficient Soils -- US

So anyone living and eating food in the dark blue areas of the US will most likely be selenium deficient.

You could also be suffering a Herxheimer reaction from Candida die-off, which will pass, but don't stop the iodine. You may consider salt loading with unrefined salt, 1/2 tsp. in water or licked, dissolved on tongue and washed down with 8+oz of plain water. This is designed to help eliminate toxins in urine but stimulating copious urination within the hour. If it doesn't do that the first time, it is ok to repeat the procedure up to two additional tries for a total of 3 times in 12 hours, which is just precaution to prevent overloading on sodium. Drink plenty of water. Also, you could take extra Vit.C and magnesium to fight this detox episode.

Hi, I used a Lugols solution in boiled, cooled water in an previous-eye drops bottle. I 1/4-filled the bottle with Lygol's 7% (you might need slightly more for 5%), and then topped up the bottle with the sterile water. I then applied 3 drops x 3 times a day.

This completely cured a severe ear infection, causing deafness and tinnitus and severe pain, that I'd had for 4 months (I used to get it every winter). This ear infection had survived 3 courses of antibiotics, but it didn't survive the iodine drops. I have never had an ear infection in the 7 years since.

As Lugols is effective against yeasts and fungus, I it's certainly worth trying, and won't do any harm. Something you should be aware of though, is don't apply it if you have an open sore or wound, as the iodine will cause intense stinging and might prevent the wound from healing. If the skin is intact, then it's ok.

Just read comments about iodine. Can you help me please!

I started using Lugol's iodine from Amazon, it states external use, so I started to apply it on the skin, starting with one drop a day. The patch went after few hours. I increased to two drops a day, then three drops a day over a period of about six weeks. The patch still disappears before twenty four hours! On average between sixteen to twenty hours.

However, where I was putting the iodine on my skin, inner leg, I have got a itch rash now, lumpy and also two or three dark spots and I have come out in a couple of facial spots which is unusual for me. I have had some metal taste in my mouth, but not sure whether that was anything to do with iodine as that happened a few days after I stopped taking it!

If it is true that your deficient if the skin patch goes before twenty four hours then it suggests I am deficient still with three drops a day, but now I have this itchy skin. What can I do? I did drop down to one drop and the skin patch went quicker, so I am not sure how I can get it into my body now I have had this skin reaction! I am reluctant to take in orally as its states external use, although some people on Amazon have reviewed the product and said they take it orally.

I have dodgy digestive system so I have to be careful, I have severe M.E my body is very fragile.

Why would I get this skin reaction after six weeks! Any ideas how to proceed please!

Lorraine: You show many signs of toxicity. Iodine increases cell voltage which sorta-like supercharges cells into recovery, which enables them to "throw off" or displace toxins stored from weak conditions. Since your digestive system, especially the lower or colon, cannot properly excrete these toxins they are recirculated back into the bloodstream and ending up on the surface or your skin. All this condition is called "herxheimer reaction" and is the first step of the healing process.

Your next step in recovery is cleaning & optimizing the digestive system. Under the "Ailments" or "Remedies" E.C. section at top page, go to Gallstones, Parasites, and Colon.

This takes some time & commitment so feel free to come back and post your progress and for some extra help you may need in this endeavor.

Transdermal Absorption
Posted by Stan (Huntsville, Al) on 11/22/2014

Are there parts of the body that are better for transdermal absorption of Lugol's than others?

For instance; the armpits --which may (or may not) provide of side benefit of deodorizing. The commercial holistic deodorants (such as Toms) don't work for me; but apple cider vinegar, milk of magnesia and baking soda do quite well. I'm thinking that a solution of Lugol's plus Oil of Magnesium (Magnesium Chloride) might serve multiple benefits.

Would appreciate any experience-based comments.

Iodine: A friend was returning from Australia and I asked him if he would buy Lugols iodine and bring back 2 x 100ml bottles. Don't ever go there. My friend is a good person and returned with ‘Iodine Drops' = Potassium Iodide equiv. to iodine, equiv. to potassium, with Vanilla

Natural Identical Flavour. I can actually taste the stupid stuff. Plus Ethanol but no color, and I also have Iodine Tincture which is a ‘Weak Iodine Solution' Contains Iodine 25 mg/mL, Ethanol, [yum! Eh?] and Potassium Iodide mg/mL. Says don't eat. Ethanol in the first one was OK to eat. Lugols may exist in Australia but it wasn't in Sydney and Toowoomba. I could buy food grade H202 40 years ago there, not anymore and as for putting it on a hairy plane – Ha!

So, are both I have eatable? Will they do good or not. Will the ethanol make my car go faster?

Hi John...You can buy lugol's iodine easily in Bangkok. Generally, in Thailand, you can also just go to any compounding pharmacy and get the LI made up to your own spec -- 2%, 5%, 7% strength etc.

If you prefer, next time you are in Bangkok take a taxi ride down Radjadamnearn Rd. Drive until you see the large, high winged monument or angel statue(Democracy Monument ?) then stop the taxi and get out. The royal palace grounds will be on one side, shops on the other side. Go to a chemical store called Vittyasom. Downstairs you can purchase all manner of chemicals including borax, potassium and sodium carbonate or whatever. Upstairs(one flight up) there is a doctor's surgery with compounding pharmacy which will make up the Lugol's Iodine to any strength you require while you wait. I live in the Philippines and get all my own stock of particular nutrient chemicals from this source and its quite cheap.

You should be able to take the potassium iodide á la vanilla without problems, though its not as good as LI. The vanilla would put me off though. What chef dreamed that one up?

Provided that your iodine tincture is NOT Povidine Iodine(plastic iodine) then, rather than waste it, I would take it like this:

Boil some water in a kettle

Pour out one glass of boiled water

Add the supplementary drops of Iodine tincture(with ethanol) carefully and slowly to the hot water so the iodine remains near the surface of the water.

Leave the glass of water to cool for an hour. During this time the alcohol in the tincture should evaporate away fairly quickly, leaving just the iodine in aqueous solution. Alcohol has a much higher evapration rate than water.

You now have Lugol's Iodine in a glass of water

Drink it down

This is just a cheap and sneaky way to make LI to supplement when all else fails. I've used this method in the past when I was desperate for LI. Iodine tincture -- the form that contains only potassium iodide and molecular iodine in ethanol and water --is easy to get in Asia and certain other parts of the world. Compounding pharmacies should also be able to make up this tincture. Worth remembering.

By the way, next time you go to Aussie and you want Lugol's Iodine, then try the vets. Just tell them that your favourite dog, Bandit, has an open wound and they'll sell it to you without problems. Same stuff. And you will probably be able to buy it in larger amounts and it will be cheaper too. Dogs have all the advantages don't they?

I buy Lugols regularly in Australia I have purchased it in Canberra and Adelaide. To succeed you must find a compounding chemist. Read the label carefully, mine is named Aqueous Iodine Solution APF. It contains Iodine 5%w/v and Potassium Iodide 10% w.v. In all cases I have purchased it the chemist has not made it, the brand is "David Craig Galenicals". When you actually get to talk to a pharmacist they will know what you are looking for. I have never found a helpful chemist who will direct you to another chemist who sells it. When asked why you want it the safest approach (which was true in my case) was to say that the doctor says my thyroid is a little low. When asked do you know how to take it it is 16 drops per day for 2 months and then 2 drops a day as a maintenance dose. Everyone is happy and then use it as you like. It must have both types of iodine to be Lugols solution and it is fantastic stuff.

Where to Buy: Canada

Posted by Bess (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) on 08/18/2014

I believe Om (from Hope, BC) mentioned a little while ago the difficulty in getting Lugol's in British Columbia.

When I lived in Vancouver, BC, I would order it from the pharmacist at London Drugs. Since moving to Calgary, Alberta I do the same. You need to talk to the pharmacist directly - some of the pharmacy assistants aren't that interested in doing special orders.

I don't know if you have a London Drugs there, but I would imagine most pharmacies would oblige. It usually takes a few days or, at most, a week to receive it.

The bottle that I have comes from Xenex Labs in Coquitlam, BC. For 100 mL of 5% Lugol's Solution, it was about $10.50. The NPN is 00415197. London Drugs also ordered another brand of Lugol's for me from Medisca (same price $10.50 for 100 mL) but I prefer the Xenex one. Good luck! Bess

I was able to order through Shoppers Drug Mart. Don't know if this drug store is in B.C. Just be certain to ask for the kind that can be ingested. They ordered it in for me without any problem.

I got Lugol's by ordering through the Walmart Pharmacy here in Burlington, ON. Best to talk to the pharmacist in person.

B31 --- Where to buy Lugol's Iodine in Canada.

I was unsuccessful online but went to London Drugs and was told by a manageress, No. But as I proceeded to another department, a senior lady employee made haste to inform me that not only London Drugs, but any pharmacy could order it if it is LUGOL'S IODINE SOLUTION. They order from the same company.

So it is indeed best to speak to a top senior employee first. I am happy that there is a possibility to obtain it despite gov't interference. Otherwise Tony Pantalleresco online teaches how to make it yourself.

Namaste, Om

You can definitely order Lugol Iodine from any compounding pharmacy. Only they can order it from Medico.com in Canada for you. You can get it in 2%, 5%, 7% concentration.
