I've had hair loss for years; since I'm a high maintenance girl)), I've tried everything under the sun, including all the popular remedies listed on this website. What helped me is washing my hair under cold water. It helped after the first time. Also, If you are under stress I recommend meditation, relaxation techniques and spirituality since stress could be a reason of stress loss! Good luck to everyone! Love this website.

Well, my hair has been always been thin on the sides, but for the past 5 years since I was diagnosed with fibroids, I see that my thinning has become worse. I was diagnosed with anemia because of the fibroids & I thought this & the medicine that I was on caused the hair loss. Recently, it has become really bad & I almost have no hair on the side of my head but fortunately have enough hair to cover up the bald spot. I see that you mentioned that your hair loss got worse when you used dandruff shampoo. Well, I have had so many changes happen in my body due to this illness & dandruff is one of them & I have been using Head and Shoulders Every time I shampoo, and my hair loss has been worse. So I'll stop using it & try other remedies mentioned here and update when I see results!

Cayenne Pepper, Olive Oil

Dear Bulbultuk,
I wanted some information regarding this remedy. How much olive oil should be taken, 100ml or 500ml for 50 gm of cayenne pepper.

I am Indian and wanted to know the Hindi name of cayenne pepper. Is it simple 'lal mirch' we use at home. Can we use castor oil along with olive oil, or combination of both since I have heard that castor oil encourages hair growth. Also, please update your progress regarding the growth of hair.
Thanks and regards

Try a mix of organic olive oil and cayenne pepper. Add 50 grams of cayenne pepper to 500ml olive oil and store in a tight bottle for 15 days. Let the transfusion season by shaking the bottle every day 2 minutes. The oil will become red and ready for use. Apply thrice a week on scalp before going to bed. Wear a shower cap to keep scalp warm and aid circulation. Wash with shampoo next morning. It may sting if the water flows to the eye, though its harmless. Done regularly will see positive results in a month or so. Eat a hair friendly diet containing omega3 fatty acids. To remove harmful toxins from the system consume half inch piece of raw ginger with each meal. Add lots of fruits and veggies to your diet. Best of luck.bbtk.

Stop Omega-3
Posted by Tom (Regina, Sk) on 01/06/2011

S-G: I also looked over a half dozen forums, and the experiences were both for and against taking Omega-3's as a cause of hair loss, in both men and women. However, two things I noticed:

The claim was made by several people that when they just reduced their omega-3 intake from typically 3 1000 mg capsules or more per day to just one, their hair loss stopped and reversed!

The second thing is that the ones taking ALSO the omega-6 fatty acid GLA (gamma linolenic) were getting no fallout and hair regrowth. I'm not saying it can or will work for everyone, or not even for any specific person, but it's probably worth trying for a month or two.

GLA is found highest percentage in borage oil, but also lesser % in evening primrose oil, hemp oil and black currant oil.

Why or how could this be so? It turns out there is an extremely important class of short-life messenger signal & switching molecules made throughout the body known collectively as prostanoids, which includes the prostaglandins, eicosanoids and thromboxanes. To be made in the cells, they need the omega fatty acids of all kinds. Most people who take oil supplements take the usual fish oils, high in DHA & EPA, which satisfies the RH side of the flow chain here, but take no GLA at all except a puny amount from the diet. Note the bottleneck or blockage down both LH and RH chains, where poor % conversion limits the amount. Taking DHA & EPA directly gets around the RH chain restriction problem; taking GLA gets around the LH chain restriction problem. So then the PG= prostaglandin molecule production is not limited. IOW, it could be poor cellular signaling that is corrected with the GLA.

Have had hair loss (including eye lashes and eyebrows) for 2 years. This hair loss started after I started doing cleanses and eating healthier. CRAZINESS! Anyway, I have tried numerous things to stop the hairloss to no avail. Hair was still growing, but falling out.

Flash forward to two weeks ago - I found a site where someone was talking about Omega-3 causing hair loss. I started the Omega-3 about two years ago. So, I stopped the Omega-3 that day. Now, my hair/eyelash/eyebrow hair all seems to be shedding a lot less. Anyone else experience something similar?

Yes it works! I don't even know how long I have been using the crude oil, Vaseline, massage, and shampoos - 15-20 years or so! It has made my hair not fall out but it never changed the appearance. Two months ago, I got the tonic and now my hair is growing faster, it use to be so thin, but now it is thicker, I don't need to use hair spray anymore either! If I want to curl it, I curl it and it stays curled! It is amazing that for as long as I have studied the Cayce readings (25 years) that I never tried the tonic!! I would suggest it to anyone who is having hair loss. If you start with his remedies right when you notice the hair loss, it would be better. If you wait until it all falls out, it may be too late.

The formula has the following ingredients:Lactated Pepsin, Black Snake Root Extract, Essence of Wild Ginseng, Atomic Iodine, Extract of Liver, and Grain Alcohol. It can be found online or at a health food store.

Yes, nettle tea is a well known tonic against hair loss in eastern europe. It is great for everything hair-wise, and drinking a cup a day is a great prevention against hair loss, as is rinsing the hair with nettle, after shampooing. The herb also ads shine to your hair. However, you need patience, chronic hair loss doesn't stop overnight, a couple of months is usually needed to see results.

Hair Loss Remedy Summaries

OK, my previous posts were somewhat rushed and incomplete. Perhaps earthclinic can replace those posts with this one. I have spent many many hours searching this site as well as other sites on the internet, and have come up with what I believe to be some important "facts" concerning hair loss, male pattern baldness in particular. -

It appears that most men who experience it are genetically pre-determined to get it. There isn't really a way to avoid it, unless you go out of your way to slow (or maybe stop) it. I will list what I believe to be the most important causes of it and some things that may be done to combat them.

1. DHT. It appears that there is a chemical called DHT that somehow attaches itself to the hair follicle and kills it off. Men with male pattern baldness appear more succeptible to DHT attack than others. My research has shown that there are a couple (or more) ways to combat DHT.

A)Increase circulation to the scalp. It appears that in many cases of MPD there is poor circulation to the scalp due to stress (tightening of some of the head muscles). One way to increase circulation to the scalp is to apply vasodilators to the surface of the scalp. Minoxidil is a popular (drug) vasodilator. There are natural options as well, such as cayenne pepper, stinging nettles, and others. I have read where onion juice mixed with stinging nettle is an outstanding way to improve scalp circulation and deter DHT buildup. Also cayenne pepper and aloe vera juice. Also the more you can massage your scalp the better, as it greatly promotes blood flow up there. Another way is to change your lifestyle to alleviate stress. Another way is with diet (limit caffeine, eat more foods that help relieve stress such as fresh flax meal and/ or drinking ginseng tea.

B)Absorb it. It seems that putting extra virgin oil (olive, sunflower, sesame) which is the first cold press on your head and letting it set overnight, followed by washing it out will absorb dht and other toxins that choke off your hair follicle.

2. Chemical poisons. I believe that there are chemical poisons that we put on our scalp that either promote DHT buildup, or kill our hair follicles in other ways. I believe some of these poisons include:

A)Chlorine in our tap water. Best way to fight this is by putting a minimal amount of tap water on our scalp and the water we do put should be as cold as bearable. I have found that the more hot water I apply to my scalp, the more my hair falls out.

B)Sulfates and other chemicals found in most shampoos. The best way to avoid these is to find a TRULY all natural shampoo, or use none at all until you can find one. I have found that if I don't use shampoo (or hot water on my scalp) my hair DOES NOT FALL OUT AT ALL, compared to probably 100 hairs per day. This is in conjunction with using a sesame oil/ cayenne pepper rub which I massage in my scalp for approximately 5 minutes per night and do not rinse out. Next I will add a rub of onion juice mixed with stinging nettles and see how that works. So far however I have completely stopped my hair loss, which has been very aggressive for the past few years. I hope someone else hops on board hear so maybe we can find a good combination that will not only stop hair loss but consistently cause new growth for guys with MPB

First off I must say this:
I believe hair loss comes from many things. Some people are prone to hair loss and some are not so there is no miracle cure. For people who are prone, like myself there are things that greatly accelerate it. Here are two things that I noticed in my pursuit of a cure:

1. Stress accelerates hair loss. Do your best to alleviate stress w/ diet and lifestyle changes.

2. SHAMPOO accelerates hair loss GREATLY!!!!!!!!!!!! . Usualy when I take off my cap and run my fingers through my hair 5-10 hairs fall out. I stopped using shampoo a couple weeks ago and lo and behold NO MORE HAIR FALLS OUT!!!!! . The only other thing I do differently is apply sunflower oil/ cayenne pepper when I bathe, and massage it in with a rubber brush with a bunch of "fingers". The reason I believe it is mainly the shampoo is one day I bought some baby shampoo, used it at night and the next day my hair was falling out at almost the normal rate. No shampoo no hair loss. Now, I think that will be your best defense against hair loss. Stop using shampoo.

Will that cause hair to regrow, don't know yet. I have some good herb books and it looks like a rub with onion juice works great to regrow hair, or at least slow the fall. I heard onion juice plus stinging nettle is even better. My plan is to do the onion/nettle massage, followed by a drying of the substance and then a rub with cayenne/ oil. I truly believe this will grow back my hair. Good luck!

Maryann, let me first say that I am SO sorry for your troubles. I just sent up a very strong prayer of faith that you will have your hair back! That being said, I just read that MSM helps overcome autoimmune diseases. I just started my husband and myself on it today. Also, check into Hyaluronic Acid, supposed to bring youth and hair back. (look under Alfred's posts here on earthclinic! ) My suggestions to myself in this situation would be approx. 4 grams MSM to start with, and 150-200 mg. of Hyaluronic acid. Split doses morning and nite. (MSM, split morning and mid-day, no good for night time, keeps you awake! ) My sister, 36 yrs old, took Clomid for a good while, not anymore, but now is in a hair crisis herself. She too has beautiful long hair, and it is falling! She just started on HA today, and I will give her some MSM to get started on that as well. Get a GOOD brand, no dollar store or box store stuff. God bless. Lisa

Female Hair Loss - after fertility drugs

Hello & thanks for reading this!!! In November 2009 I lost almost all of my hair, after 37 years of LONG THICK hair. I took Clomid for one month and lost a 1" by 1" square of hair. The doc told me no hair loss related... And switched me to Femara... The rest fell out fairly quickly... Over the next couple months. I only took them for a total of 4 months. Later a dermatologist told me the Clomid has a 1% chance of hair loss... And the Femara has a 5% chance of hair loss. It has been almost one year since I have taken ANY of those drugs... My hair is just about gone. I have done 4 months of steriod shots in my head... I did get some growth last month... But then the new stuff recently started falling out. I had 12 viles of blood drawn... Slightly low in B, lower in D (prominant in my area)... All else was fine... Even thyroid. I think the drugs triggered some type of auto-immune in my body... And if someone could just figure out what the trigger was... Maybe it could be fixed????

I have been reading some of the remedies here... Apple cider vinger and so on. I am going to try some of them. But, I'd love to know what has had the most success......... I'm so frustrated... Some of them are such odd mixes of this and that.... I just don't know where to start. PLEASE help if you can... Thanks so much!!!

How about telling us the name of the product. There must be a company name on the bottle somewhere. And an address or a phone number or a website. I think it's a little strange how everybody keeps saying how fast and simple it is to grow hair with this stuff but nobody actually tells you anything. It's just "Go out and get some and in a few weeks your hair will be growing back" Sounds more like someone playing games. As usual you never hear from them again. Like the story about growing hair with carrot juice.

Cayenne Pepper, Olive Oil

It is exactly 30 days since I started using the Cayenne Pepper EV Olive oil treatment for growing hair on my balding patches. (Male Pattern Baldness). Am happy to say that the following formula has given encouraging results. (This is the proportion I have used to make a potent infusion of oil to concentrate it. No side effects have been seen).

You will need:-

1. 50 grams of Powdered Cayenne Pepper of highest scoville units (Buy strongest red chillies and get it powdered in the CHAKKI. Avoid readymade chilly powder like Tikhalal, MTR etc as they may contain preservatives and salt).

2. 100 ml of the best Extra Virgin Olive Oil like Figaro.

3. 1 glass bottle with a tight cap.

4. 20 grams of black Pepper powder (kaali mirch).

METHOD to prepare the OIL. Pour all the above ingredients in the bottle and after shaking the mixture store in a cool dry place. Shake every day for 2 minutes so that the peppers dissolve their potency into the oil. After a week you may start using the oil on your scalp. 1 TEASPOON will be sufficient to cover a bald head.

HOW TO USE. Before applying the oil you have to apply juice of half an Onion 2 pods garlic on the bald areas rubbing vigorously for 2 to 5 minutes. Wait 15 minutes for scalp to dry onits own and apply the OIL infusion evenly. Mildly massage scalp till it absorbs the oil. Cover head with a WARM cap or shower cap or monkey cap. Go to bed with cap ON. Shampoo in the morning. Apply pure coconut or mustard oil on scalp during bath as is usually done in Indian hoseholds.

IMPORTANT.... Take care while washing your head as even the water flowing down the face can burn eyes though its harmless. FREQUENCY..... If applied daily results can be seen within 2 weeks. Queries are welcome on my cell no. 09343158575. Between 9AM and 7PM IST.

Today at 58 years of age I am very happy to say that after many years I have succeeded to grow hair on bald areas of my scalp. I have Male Pattern baldness from at least 10 years. I tried all treaments including Minoxidil etc. But to no avail. Finally desparately I started searching the NET for natural cures. I came across The Cayenne Pepper E V Olive oil and started using it on 15th August. Today its 24 days and I can see new hair sprouting. Maybe I have to wait for a longer period, say 3 months to see a noticeable growth. The new hair is thin and looks almost transparent or colourless you may say. I want to know how this new hair can be nourished to thicken and grow longer. I request readers to suggest a remedy for this. I shall update about future progress as things change. Also I will guide anyone on this cure. Please email me your queries. Thanks. Bbtk.

Coconut Oil

★★★★☆

I have had some success with using Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) topically for hair fall. I was diagnosed with diffused Alopecia areata long ago when my hair loss started at around age 19. My hair loss has slowly progressed for nearly a decade. I usually have increased hair fall in the summer and my scalp is ALWAYS tender. So much so that adding a barette or pulling into a ponytail causes my scalp to hurt so bad it causes headaches. I've tried some EC recommended remedies during this approx 2 month bout of intense shedding.

ACV, BSM, Idoral have not helped. The one thing that has reduced my shedding is applying coconut oil topically. I saturated my scalp, let sit for a couple hours and then attempeted to wash it out. This stuff is not going to wash away easily as my daily rinsing with white vinegar(make hair gorgeous! ) has yet to displace the oil completely. The next day my shedding was GREATLY reduced and is still reduced 3 days later. The downside for me is that I DONT care for my hair texture or the appearance of my hair(greasy) after the VCO application. My scalp sensitivity is also up (sebum cause by the oil?). BUT for those without my AA issues, I recommend highly trying VCO externally for hair shedding.

Baking Soda, Apple Cider Vinegar

I have been waiting a little over a year to write this letter expecting better results than what I have. Unfortunately, I believe the benefits of fighting Male Pattern Baldness with baking soda and ACV may have been exaggerated. I've been using ACV & baking soda since Aug. 9, 2009 (today is Aug. 22 2010) and the difference in my hair regrowth is only slight at best. The shape of my head is still quite visible. I've found that drinking horsetail tea on a regular basis and adding it to the ACV rinse helped with the MPB even more so but again only slightly. However, until something better comes along I'm going to continue using baking soda & ACV because it's a wonderful treatment for dandruff. Also, every shampoo & conditioner I've investigated contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and/or Sodium Laureth Sulfate. These two chemicals are what are used to make soap nice and lathery but they also destroy hair follicles. I must also add that baking soda & ACV restored my hair color. It didn't get rid of the gray hairs but restored the youthful shine & got rid of the dullness that comes with age. As I continue the baking soda & ACV treatment, if anything should favorably change, I will make sure to write.

I am 24 yrs old and my husband is 30 yrs old. We moved out the country and found some green grass oil for hair loss. Already we have seen results, me after 4 washes and him after only 2. His slight baldness he was starting have from all his hair cuts is now gone and my hair is growing healthier and faster. I researched the oil for friends in the states but couldn't find it. However, the ingredients in the oil are: Green Herb Oil, Saturated & Unsaturated fatty acids, Provitamin A, and Vitamin E. We love it and use it every time we wash our hair, which is every 2 weeks. We wash our hair and then massage the oil into the scalp (enough to cover the entire head) and then add conditioner to our hair. We let it sit in for about 15-20 minutes and rinse out with warm water. I hope this helps some of you

If anyone wants to know more about the BSM, on the earthclinic itself you will find many testimonials of people who have used this. It has its benefits and has helped lots of people. Sorry for alarming anyone. This part comes from one of the reviews that I read:

"Iron acts as a cancer-promoting agent by two separate yet synergistic mechanisms: 1) by producing "free radicals, " and 2) by feeding cancer cells. Iron increases the production of free radicals, and-in fact-the production of free radicals is largely proportionate to the level of iron. 4 This means that the more iron there is in the body, the more free radicals will be produced and thus the greater the risk of disease)

To Reina and anyone else on this website,

Thanks for trying to help me, I don't feel as desperate as I was a month or two ago. I have been documentating myself a lot on remedies found on this site. In fact, acv is an astringent (cleanser)it cleans the scalp, lemon is also a good astringent which helps cleaning the scalp and helps with greasy hair. My hair is in fact greasy, I had a habit of touching my head this also helps in making hair greasy as it releases sebum.

I have stopped taking acv orally and wash my hair once in a while with acv now. I tried the cayenne pepper and vodka as well and I didn't feel any different.

But something has finally stopped my hair from falling completely and that's aloe vera, I went to an aryuvedic shop and bought aloe vera pills.

It in fact, helps all skin problems and stops hair from falling. I did not find borax to wash my hair but I found a neem and lemon soap as well as its shampoo. The blackstrap molasses mentioned by some kind friends is not recommended as it helps in producing cancer, anyone using this often should stop. I write off here for now.

To Labrat from Burlington, Nc, Usa. If you are using regular zinc glutonate, only 15 percent of it is absorbed which means only 15 mg of the 100 mg ingested is actually absorbed by your body. Therefore 3x100 mg only nets out at 45 mg actual that your body can use per day. . Again, as I said in my other post, the extra zinc is mostly for the hair color and can probably be reduced without affecting hair growth. Regards, Johnn

To Labrat from Burlington, Nc, Usa. . . Yes, that is the dosage I used. However, if you are concerned with the zinc, reduce the zinc amount only. I have never seen or experienced any problems with this dosage of chelated (organic)zinc and have taken zinc supplements for decades. It is almost always below optimal in older men(prostate issues). I think you can still get the hair results without as much zinc as the zinc in this protocol is for getting the hair to grow in with your natural hair color. Hopefully this answers your questions and you see the same success I had. Regards, Johnn

In a 2006 post, Ted from Bangkok wrote about hair loss: "The second issue is the clogged follicles, you can clear those calcium deposits in the hair follicles somewhat with apple cider vinegar or just vinegar. It smells bad, so you need to do it on your weekends or just make a small diluted ones before sleeping. Use this as a rinse. The suppleness of the scalp will return. If you have an itching fungus issue, this will cause a hair loss. So use a mixture of lavender/tea tree/aloe vera oil mix. An ideal mixture is 10% lavender, 10% tea tree and 80% aloe vera. This applying only once a week on scalp should deal with hair loss from fungus. Leave this overnight."

Maybe that is causing the hair loss. Good Luck!

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

About 2 years ago I got a nickel sized bald spot that grew in 6 months to about 3 inches from one side to the other. My Dr put me on alprazolam 2 mg 3 times a day and it grew back within a few months. He said it was stress. Now I suddenly found another bald spot a little further back than the first one and it is already quarter size. I don't want to be put back on that drug because it made me feel different like drugged. This bald spot makes me break down and cry every time I see or think about it. I am so stressed about it and don't know what to do.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Hydrogen Peroxide

I am grateful for Mary's story about topically applying acv to her head by mistake when she had a fungal infection and thus losing all her hair.

I unthinkingly slapped some acv on my head before bed last night as I do from time to time, but this time I woke up disturbed and vaguely recalling her post so I got up and reread it as well as Teds instructions about the subject since I hadn't read them in a couple years. I realized I was making the same mistake Mary had because I likely also have a fungal infection due to my parasite infection.

In Jan just when my hair was starting to see some real progress I absentmindedly put a little acv on it and continued to do so on occasion. Soon afterwards I was combing my hair and it started falling out in clumps. Not making the connection I continued over the past five months to put acv on my hair from time to time, wondering why it kept getting shorter and wouldn't grow any more. Sure enough, topical acv is likely part of the reason why my hair fell out and hasn't grown. I had credited it all to the meds I took about the same time which are known to cause hair loss, which is also likely part of the reason as well. Now I hope to get it right by using tea tree oil and the proper remedies instead. I will let that be a lesson I have to be more careful. Thanks for your site.

For the last year I have been experiencing hair loss and have tried every remedy on EC with no help. Hopefully I think I have finally found the answer to my problem thanks to EC and those who post here. One day someone posted info on Wilson's Syndrome and I followed up on researching it.

The short of Wilson's Syndrome is you can have all the symptoms of low thyroid but your blood work is fine. The key is low oral temperature below 98.6 on a regular basis which I had. I talked to my doctor and she said she treated this and even had a blood test to check for Wilson's syndrome. With Wilson's syndrome your body is unable to use the T3 your thyroid produces so the treatment is T3.

I have just started to take the T3 twice a day. Internet info says 12 hours apart. Also I was extremely fatigue more so than usual as I have been working on getting rid of CFS and Fibromyalgia. Actually it felt as if I had fallen into a big black hole and couldn't get out. Thanks again EC because I had not heard of Wilson's Syndrome and my doctor didn't look for it with my history of CFS and Fib.
