Thank you Earth Clinic for all the information you provide and all people who contribute any remedies that may have helped in their condition. I have been suffering with Psoriasis now since June of 2011, I know that is relatively small amount of time compared to so many. I just wanted to contribute my experience. In researching online I discovered that Psoriasis is a reaction to your bodies immune system being run down and so I could not perceive why the doctors would prescribe medicines and creams that would further run down your immune. I knew I wanted to address the inner problem which hopefully would solve the symptom, psoriasis.

I started seeing a doctor who's approach was nutrionally based. I have eliminated bread, milk and sugar from my diet, yes it was hard, and taken increased supplement including Omega 3's, Primrose Oil, Vit A, Folic Acid and DIGESTIVE ENZYMES. Also I have used primrose oil on my body along with a skin cream for sensitive skin. I have to admit it has taken a while I am now on my 10th week but my skin is finally clearing up. I would say it is 75% clear and added benefit I have lost over 20 lbs. I have abused my body all my life with junk food and have been obese for most of my adult life so this was quite a challenge but I can now say that I intend to maintain this dietary lifestyle as I can see what I was doing to my overall health and perhaps I could thank the psoriasis for the wake up call that caused me to ultimately change my ways. So I would urge any one who can relate to my post to please seek help from a more natural or dietary minded physician and I hope you can also experience the relief I have begun to have. Good Luck and God Bless!

Boric Acid

Hi Col, Could you tell me where you get boracic acid from? It would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Boric Acid
Posted by Col (Cairns, Qaueensland) on 03/03/2012

Hi Maria I got mine over the internet from 2 places, the only I went to 2 places was that the supplier in nsw was a bit slow and it turns out he was having trouble with computer, so I went to another site from memory it's called whelping supplies, its near you in victoria. I purchased it to try to kill off foot odour, I had been using borax on my scalp 2 tbl to a glass of water, every second day, so I thought I would try the boracic acid (aka boric acid powder), so far so good even if you have to use it every 5-7 days, its better than scalp psorasis, best of luck it works for me.

Coconut Oil

On psoriasis:

Try taking cold processed virgin coconut oil 3 1/2 tablespoon daily continuously for at least a month.

Sip a lemon & a pinch of sea salt after to refresh your mouth.

White School Glue

Ive tried them all for Psoriasis, and nothing works. I decided that in order for the scales to grow they have to have air/ 02. So I got out my squeeze bottle of washable school glue. Just sorta squeezed in all the places on my scalp as well as one elbow last night. I got up this am and to my surprise I peeled the glue off my elbow and it was smooth as silk. Washed my hair (a couple of times:() and most of the scales were gone. I probably missed places. I used a lot of lotion today on my elbow and it's fine.

I just finished putting more glue on my elbow just in case, and a lot on my scalp. We will see in the morning. I hope this works.

The Banana Peel for psoriasis definitely works! My son had it on his hands and feet and everynight for about 2 weeks I would rub Banana Peel directly on the affected areas. We noticed a difference right away with the pain and tightness. It's been two years and has not come back.

Glycerin, Zinc Oxide

I really appreciate this wonderful site. In March of last year, I was bitten by a brown recluse spider on my calf and did I everything imaginable to heal it and a year later, the wound just kept getting bigger and bigger. It started out the size of a dime and now is the size of a grapefruit.

On Saturday, April 9th, a friend of mine told me it looked like Psoriasis to her. I looked at pictures and it did seem to look a lot like what I have. I think perhaps the bite affected my immune system and combined with the stress just would not heal.

I immediately bought the glycerin and the zinc oxide recommended on Earth Clinic and I am in shock as I write this the following Monday, April 11th. The improvement is miraculous. Where it was bumpy, purple and scaly, it is now flat and pink and clearly healing. I am so grateful. Thank you so much for creating this wonderful site with so much great information and so well put together.

WARNING!

Double check on the tanning bed. My research showed that they had little to none of the range of uv light that had an impact on psoriasis and of course they are known to be hard on your skin long term. The uv therapy that is considered safest and most effective is UVB narrowband. Good luck!!! And I hope you check back in with good results and more info to share with all who are at war with this condition.

Helpful post, thanks so much! Glad you are better!

Just curious... In your opinion would coconut oil help with candida, since it is supposed to be antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial?

Candida Connection
Posted by Herbgirl (Seattle, Wa, Usa) on 04/02/2011

Gentle Earth,

Thanks for your well wishing. Yes! You are right about the coconut oil. I use only cold pressed organic coconut oil now when cooking, and I also use it on my skin. One of the anti-fungals--in addition to things like raw garlic, organo oil, pau d'arco, calendula and others--that is recommended for yeast infections is cold pressed coconut oil.

However, I did find that using it alone wasn't enough. The anti-fungal approach to yeast infections is only one part of treatment and if done alone doesn't seem to help rebalance your system. I did just anti-fungals first and felt great for awhile, but then the yeast just came back again.

After exhaustive internet searching I realized that it's a 3-pronged approach: 1) anti-fungals to kill back the yeast 2) digestive enzymes & probiotics to rebalance the intestines so the yeast can't get a new foothold and 3) change in diet (especially if your diet is high in processed foods and/or if you are sensitive to gluten and dairy)

Hope this helps!

Hello Herbgirl. I must reply to your post since, your post lead me to alleviate all my symptoms of psoriasis out of the many I read. I reply to you in thanks but I am also in very large part writing to anyone who has symptoms of psoriasis so that I may possibly help someone. Much of the information on the web as of 2012 was not encouraging and I don't suspect it has changed. I read your post several months ago when I had an itching spreading spot on the front of my leg exactly where my cell phone was kept in my front pocket. I then learned that prolonged cell phone/skin contact causes a burn and psoriasis can be "triggered" from a skin injury. I believed a burn could be just such a skin injury. (Dear reader: If you are reading this to hopefully cure your condition please excuse my rambling style. I know how difficult it is combing through posts looking for a solution. I have included all I have done to elleviate my symptoms and all the reasoning I can remember, but it is scattered throughout the post).

I've been no stranger to strange skin conditions (and doctors shrugging their shoulders at me and giving me some ointment of some sort and hoping that I go away) so I read up on it myself and ended up using hydro-cortizone cream very early on which cleared it temporarily and allowed me to sleep without the burning itch but would come back even more severe and spread out days later. I read and searched more. I chose not to be diagnosed since the hydrocortozone cream made it go away temporarily. I figured my guess was as good as most any doctor I had run into at that point. If the hydrocortozone didn't have any affect at I all, I would have been at a dermatologist at once with fears of chemotherapy. Using the hydro-cortozone cream lead me to believe that what I had was most likely psoriasis and not anything more severe. Also I had quite of a bit of separation of my middle fingernail bed on both hands which I understand is an indicator of psoriasis or a type of it. On the spot on my leg, there was a bit of flaking and it seamed to have a cyclic nature of spread and scale/flake and it always itched, especially when I was stressed. All these things were consistant with psoriasis symptoms and the pictures of diagnosed psoriasis affected skin on the web looked most like my condition.

Based mainly on your posts I started eating two table spoons of organic coconut oil twice a day and soon I was sore all over. I had attempted a candida diet about ten years before and I had given up on it. I realized this ache was the "die off" feeling that I had felt on the candida diet so I started on the Syntol immediately. Also I was drinking the organic apple cider vinegar and baking soda (1 TBSP to 1/2 teaspoon baking soda to about 10 oz water) twice a day. After a week on the Syntol (3 capsules 1 hour before a meal and 3 capsules 2 hours after a meal) two or three times a day, I noticed less itching and no more spreading on my leg. For the next several weeks I would only itch and flair up during periods of stress but it was less severe and there was healing (natural looking skin) at the center of the red spot. I quit taking the 2 tablespoons of organic coconut oil after I believed the Syntol was doing a better job of eliminating and evacuating the yeasts. My meaning is that I felt less sore and I figured I was exposing myself to less toxins and in this way take longer to accomplish the gut flora balance which I thought might be easier on my system in general. Plus the relaxation of the symptoms resulted in less stress and more confidence that my body was being allowed to heal itself. As far as I can figure, when the coconut oil kills the yeast it just releases the toxins into your body, but the syntol surrounds them colloidally (I'm familiar with colloid action having had a bit of chemistry in a previous lab job that I had to quit due to allergies... ). I now see the soreness after ingesting coconut oil as a very useful indicator of yeast in the gut (the more sore the worse the problem I suppose).

After about a month and a half of taking the Syntol there was a red circle left around the affected area which diminished after a few more weeks. At this time I relaxed my intake of apple cider vinager and baking soda. In times of stress, a small area of where the problem first started would turn red for about an hour or two and then subside without itching. It has been several months and I am completely itch free even under stress. The area of the first redness and itching is now just barely visible like a year old tan line and invisible under bright light. Thank you so much for your post! My first symtoms started about 8 months ago with a spot about the size of a silver dollar and after three months was about 5 inches in diameter. Now, at about five months from the worst point, I am completely free of any trouble from it. I am now quite thankful for the ordeal to have brought this underlying gut flora balance problem to my attention again and hopefully I have solved it. It is quite likely the underlying problem would have come to the surface in a possibly more severe manner in the future. I drink the apple cider vinegar occasionally. I took the Syntol for about three months. I've taken a break from it for a while since it's not exactly cheap (worth it though). I believe I'll experiment taking a maintance type of amount to see if my fingernails will completely attach. They are not quite as seperated but still a noticeable bit detached at one side.

Hi Steph...I have never found Philips Milk of Magnesia (MoM) in the Philippines. I get my own supply from UK.

The Philippines pharmacies sell their own brands of MoM which usually always contains aluminum (avoid). But you should be able to order Mom from sites like ebay.com without problems.

Dear readers,

I have been treating psoriasis for last 8 years in my clinic. To all my patients the following treatment has helped greatly. Majority of them clear within 3 to 4 months.

Try out the following and inform the results:

I start with kidney cleans, liver cleans, colon cleans and heavy metal cleans. Patients are prescribed to take 300ml mixed raw vegetable juices (any 4 to 5 types of vegetables of different colours can be mixed).

Elimination diet:

Patients are advised not to eat: milk products in any form, wheat, corn, soyabean, refined oils, vegetable oils, fast food, junk food, cola drinks, alcohol and smoking.

Fewer intakes of salt and sugar are also advised.

Powder of Ashwagandha (freely available on health food stores) 5grams in the morning and evening.

Concentrated solution of Wheat Grass juice in Giloye juice (can be prepared or purchased) acts as a good immunomodulator.

Multivitamins with zinc in high concentration (upto 200 mg/day)

Stretching exercises and breathing exercises along with proper sleep. This makes the full prescription.

Majority patients respond to this holistic approach within a month. Erythrodermic type of psoriasis, psoriasis since birth and very old patients with more than 30 years of disease respond poorly to this approach ( reason is not known)

Castor Oil
Posted by Paloma (Ithaca, Ny) on 12/14/2010

I've had a small case of psoriasis for over fourteen years on one of my elbows. I tried various topical applications recommended by doctors, like OTC cortisone cream and another cream called Elocon which you can get only by prescription. Cortisone cream did nothing for me whatsoever; Elocon cleared up the legion temporarily but it would come right back when I stopped putting it on. I stopped using both creams because I did not like the chemical ingredients in them.

This winter I decided to change my face-washing method from regular facial cleanser to natural Oil Cleaning method using the mixture of castor oil and olive oil. The oil cleaning worked very nicely... But it turned out that there was an unexpected bonus effect on my psoriasis! Without giving much thought, I rubbed the oil mixture (with greater concentration of castor oil) on my elbow. The next day, when I looked at the elbow -- I was surprised to see the thing actually clearing up just as good as Elocon! Since then, I've only tried this for about a week and I haven't been very persistent in my application, just randomly putting things on whenever I remembered.. But I'm guessing if I continue this everyday perhaps it will really be gone completely. I read that castor oil is naturally antibacterial so I wonder if it played some role to clear up my small psoriasis. If anybody else share the same experience I'd like to know. I am posting this because I noticed there was no section for castor oil under the category of psoriasis.

Parasite Cleanse

My niece suffered from psoriasis and after six months of traditional treatment from her doctor with poor results and no hope for a cure, she went to a holistic practioner. She was told psoriasis was caused by a parasite. She was given a parasitic cleanse (had to drink a capful of a liquid two or three times a day) and had to eliminate sugar from her diet. She saw a huge improvement in three weeks. She is totally free of this skin condition and has never had another occurrence. That was seven years ago. She doesn't remember the name of the product, but you might talk to your local health/vitamin store for suggestions.

If it was a liquid, it was probably a blend of an extract of the green hulls of black walnut, wormwood extract, and clove bud extract. There is a good one available now...if you know what I mean.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda
Posted by Thekampungowl (South-east Asia) on 07/27/2016

I've been suffering from psoriasis on the top portion of my feet for 15 years. Thank God I stumbled upon this site. It started as a small itch. The ones on my knees and elbows cleared off and never came back but the ones on my feet became a bit widespread and never went away despite all kinds of topical cream, all steroids which cause the skin to become so thin. It's getting worse now - always inflamed, itchy and painful. It bleeds when scratched. The scabs can be very thin or thick.

I'm running to the supermarket in the morning to get a bottle of avc and a small tin of baking soda which is dirt cheap.

Thank you to everyone here for sharing. May God bless you all. Greetings from south-east asia.

Vitamin D, Fish Oil
Posted by Sunsong (Mission, Canada) on 06/09/2009

I would like to share with you my cure for Psoriasis. I had never had psoriasis until a few years ago when it broke out on the back of my scalp and quite severely on my left hand area inside the thumb and the palm of the hand. Anyone who has had psoriasis knows this is an extremely bad place to havce it!! I am also left handed so it became difficult to even write with a pen or do basic tasks.

I believe in natural medicines and it became an almost two year long journey to find the natural cure (for myself) and I'm hoping and praying it will work for others as well. I tried different natural topical treatments to no avail. And in a moment of clarity, realized that skin eruptions happen because of an imbalance 'within' the body.

First of all, i must stress that i was diligent about having my Vitamin D levels tested by my physician. I followed Dr. Mercolas advice on getting the correct vitamin D test and getting myself within the optimum range for good health. This took a few months. During that time i used a homemade cream with vitamin D drops on my hand. This helped, but did not cure the problem.

What truly made the difference was when i added in a very high quality omega 3 fish oil supplement. I vary between the capsules and the liquid high quality grade. Also, I use the recommended dose of 2 capsules daily or 1 tsp. liquid daily. If i take more than the recommended dose i feel imbalanced. Needless to say, one has to experiment with the correct dose as each person is unique biochemically.

The improvement in the psoriasis was startling. Within two months it was 98% gone, and it looks like it is never coming back. Since psorisis is a skin inflammation, and Vit D and omega fish oils are powerful anti-inflammatories, one can see why the remedy worked. I had used fish oils (omegas 3's) in the past, but had lapsed in taking them (stressful time in my life). I can see now how very important these two simple things are.

Also, I had a cat with a very serious allergy and skin problem. I started putting the Vit D drops (very tiny amounts) and fish oil in his food, and he cleared up almost completely. His condition was so serious that he would lose his hair and have bleeding crusty patches all over his body. Also, his nose would plug up so much he couldn't breathe. Now he is all clear and his dandruff is gone, he can breathe, and his fur feels like absolute SILK. All this with no pharma medicines.

So i gave it to my 3 elderly dogs....two german shepherds and a wolf hound. Huge improvement in their arthritis symptoms! Also, their fur and skin feel like absolute SILK.

Regarding the psoriasis and skin: i must mention that i use all natural soaps, dish soap and skin lotions. I also have a chemical free home (clean with baking soda, vinegar, and essential oils) Also, i wash my animals in a solution of borax and rinse them in clear water thoroughly. No chemical soaps or junk on their bodies!

I recently started adding a little Apple Cider Vinegar (the good organic kind with the mother in it) to my pets food. I only use tiny amounts, but they all seem to like it. I am trying this to see if it helps repel fleas, as I heard from elsewhere on Earth Clinic that his helps. We don't have a flea problem at all, but i'm hoping the ACV will keep it that way. (I also put garlic in their bone broth that they get).

I must mention again: the ACV i've been taking for a week dropped my blood pressure. I don't know if it has helped me lose weight because i don't use a scale. But i feel less bloated and more mentally perky. As with all things, i believe in consistency and in not overdoing. I only use the Earth Clinic recommendation of 2 tsp in 16 oz. water drank throughout the day. On some days i have ane extra glass because my body/mind is asking for it. I can hardly wait to see my doctor and give her the news that i lowered my blood pressure with such a simple thing.

May mother earth bless everyone who contributes their cures to this site!

Dietary Changes
Posted by Heather (New York, Ny) on 01/07/2010

To Kay and Anna: Thank you for such a detailed post. After years of suffering with moderate psoriasis, I finally became serious about a more disciplined diet and lifestyle. Almost all of the research that I have done on my own supports exactly what you have stated. I just wanted to add a few things:

Pork - I gave this up a year ago not ONLY because of the toxins, but because of worms and parasites that live in the flesh of the swine.

Raw Fish - same deal as above. While some obscure diets advocate raw fish/raw meats this seems antithetical to healing for someone with a compromised immune system.

Wheat Gluten - Not sure exactly what the connection is, but I believe it is a contributor to irritable bowel, and perhaps encourages candida growth as well.

Nightshade Vegetables - Potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant and peppers should be avoided. I have also read some articles recommending avoidance of corn.

Nuts - I was advised by a homeopath who treats me regularly that all nuts are acceptable EXCEPT for peanuts and cashews, because of the natural mold that develops inside their shells.

To Edie: STAY ENCOURAGED! You will find that when you are eating more simply and cleanly, you will feel healthier (I've actually gained a bit of healthy weight), look radiant and have a ton more energy. This is because your body is digesting more efficiently, and absorbing and utilizing nutrients more effectively than before. Therefore, do not worry about what you are not eating. Rather, concentrate on establishing good habits that are easy for you to follow. You will soon start to crave healthier foods.

My typical daily diet consists of:

BREAKFAST
Fresh Fruit: 3 whole bananas OR 3 organic apples OR 1 whole mango (skin-on), cubed.

Non-wheat cereal: Quinoa, oats, amaranth, tapioca with poached fruit and a little honey and cinammon.

LUNCH
Vegetable/Legume Soup: Lentil, Carrot, Split Pea (meatless) Pumpkin. Veggies for vitamins/antioxidants, legumes for protein. Alternate!

OR

Vegetable Omelette: I like Spinach and Goat Cheese. I have not yet noticed a reaction with me for eggs... may have to try an elimination and see whether it helps

DINNER

HUGE Salad: Mixed greens with Grilled Chicken or Salmon, some goat cheese (soft), carmelized onion and avocado.

OR

Organic Baby Arugula with grated goat cheese (hard), hemp seeds or slivered almonds, and vinagrette. I love a bottled miso vinagrette, but may eventually try a homemade one with apple cider vinegar.

OR

Any combination of protein/vegetable or starch/vegetable from the following (try not to combine protein and starch as this causes poor digestion). Grill, steam, bake or saute: lean chicken, fish, legumes (peas, beans), veggies (bright colored, e.g. carrots, beets; and green leafy ones e.g., broccoli, spinach, kale, collards are best), starches (brown rice, sweet potatoes, yams, pumpkin) prepared veggie burgers, prepared veggie sushi (macro/organic only).

SNACKS (2-3 per day):
Brown rice cakes, nuts, fresh fruit, dried fruit (sulfite-free only), granola bars, wheat-free crackers, nut butters, organic fruit butters.

DRINK (between meals):
Spring water (2 litres per day), fresh fruit/vegetable juices, herbal teas, health tonics.

There is such a variety to be had. Look for ways to substitute acceptable ingredients for unacceptable ones in recipes that you encounter. Focus on creativity, and think positively about your healing!I've been on a strict elimination diet for 2 months now, and I honestly do not crave any of the bad stuff I was eating before. I think you will adjust quite easily!

To Edie from Lafayette, AL: You have been sadly misinformed regarding your health conditions. I am responding, because I am worried for you, and feel compelled to educate you and possibly save your life. My daughter has severe psoriatic arthritis (which is NOT the same thing as rheumatoid arthritis, but is very similar). The difference is that you cannot have psoriatic arthritis without psoriasis, and there is a blood test to determine if one has the rheumatoid factor. If it is negative, it is not RA. Secondly, although psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis are autoimmune conditions, Hepatitis C is NOT. I don't know where you got your information, but Hep C is a bloodborne pathogenic virus. It is an infectious disease that will cause liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, and/or liver failure. It IS curable, unlike autoimmune illnesses. I am living proof of this, as I have beat Hep C. You really need to find an Infectious Disease Specialist or Gastroenterologist to manage your hepatitis, and get you treatment before it is too late. Your psoriatic arthritis may be manageable with biologics, such as Humira or Enbrel, with the help of a Rheumatologist. Those meds have helped several people that I know, but unfortunately stopped working for my daughter after only 9 months...hence why I am here. Hope this helps, and that you get the help that you need to eradicate that wicked virus. Don't try to tackle that one homeopathically...trust me.The PsA won't kill you, but the Hep can. Good luck!

I have had psoriasis for less than a year, quite severe in my ears and around my eyes, nose and mouth. I started oil pulling and it began to clear up the first day. By the second day there was still some flaking in my ears but no painful cracks or itching. This is a fabulous website and I will be trying a lot more of the suggestions I've seen here.

After reading about using vinegar as a conditioner after you shampoo I tried some plain white vinegar and my psoriasis on my scalp went away in one week. I have psoriasis behind my ears and at times it weeps and is so painful. Having had it for at least 10 years I tried cortisone in the early days but my inner instinct turned me off it very quickly. I've tried all sorts of so-called remedies since then. On this site recently I read somewhere about Jojoba oil and have used it with great success on my psoriasis. It is so soothing and clears it up within a couple of days. If I miss a day, however, it returns, but not as bad as previously. Although the Jojoba oil isn't a permanent cure-all it's the best I've used. The extra virgin or virgin is the best and you can buy it from any health store. Another bonus: it's absolutely beautiful on your face and body, is inexpensive and goes a long way as well.

I am 26 years old, and have suffered with psoriasis since my parents divorced when I was 13. I have tried numerous topical therapies, cortisone injections and light therapy, and nothing has helped. I recently eliminated beef and pork from my diet (fatty, hard to digest meats) and have had amazing results. Within 3 weeks my psoriasis went from covering 70% of my body to about 30%. I have since had to use a steroid spray to keep my skin clear, but the spray didn't work the first two times I tried it. I tried eliminating wheat and gluten but didn't have much luck, although I do know people that has worked for. Besides red meat isn't good for you anyway!
