Apple cider vinegar for Psoriasis

A couple of years ago I developed an itchy rash on my scalp behind my ears shortly after having my hair colored. It progressively got worse with severe swelling of my ear and high fever. Ended up in urgent care with cellulitis. Antibiotics cleared it up but it kept coming back. After my 3rd round of antibiotics I was diagnosed with psoriasis.

I was told by the doctor to use a medicated shampoo and a product called Scalpicin which helped to keep the itching down and kept it from getting infected but it never went away. I decided to start on the apple cider vinegar regimen.

I would take an empty water bottle and pour about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in and then add 1/2 tsp baking soda. After it stopped fizzing I added water and drank it. I did this everyday and within a few months I noticed my rash was going away. It was completely gone on one side of my scalp with just a small area left on the other side.

I decided to stop taking the apple cider vinegar just to see if it had anything to do with it. For 2 weeks I did not take the apple cider vinegar and the rash came back on one side with a vengeance. It got infected and I took silver biotics to clear up the infection and started back on the apple cider vinegar drink.

After a couple of weeks the rash went away again. I am now a firm believer in this drink and I am back on my regimen of taking it everyday during the week and take off one or two days on the weekend.

Cortisol

I found out the cause of my Psoriasis was from elevated cortisol levels. This probably would only help people who developed psoriasis later in life. I stumbled on a cure, yes complete cure, when I started taking a natural support supplement for insomnia. The one I use is called Interplexus Seriphos, but there are many other cortisol lowering treatments available. Get your cortisol levels tested to see if they are high. I was so shocked when all my psoriasis completely went away. Not saying this will work on people who suffered from psoriasis all their life, but I always assumed my psoriasis came from hormone levels being out of sync. I started suffering from Psoriasis after menopause. I very much so wish this helps someone else out there who suffers from this disease.

Hi Dave,

Just read your comment and want to thank you for being so generous with your thoughts, which seem very sound to me. I do not have psoriasis, but my skin is unhealthy and I have had chronic lyme deep in my body and brain, and also have researched that chonic lyme is because of EBV- so the viral connection as well. Thanks again.

Hi,

Certainly a very annoying problem to be dealing with.

Here is the thing. Psoriasis is a stubborn beast that just does not answer to many things at all. If the P is in an aggressive state then im sorry to say I have yet to find any natural solution.

The whole diet thing is largely a scam or affiliate marketing type thing, however a good diet is obviously still very important. I just have yet to notice any real difference with the P in regards to diet.

The only thing I have found to work on the skin portion is a 50/50 mix of glycerin and witch hazel, and it comes with some compromises. It can give me some relief for a few hours to help me get some things done, but it will raw the skin out and cause some problems, but it does tend to tame the itch a little bit. It's a catch 22 as it seems everything is with Psoriasis.

If its in certain places you have to check for a fungal infection first. After that, slowly ramping up some more toxic drugs will ultimately bring you relief, however they do come with compromises. I ultimately found relief with some coal tar and some salicylic acid, HOWEVER, my body became toxic and the problem ultimately reared its head elsewhere, so ultimately a very compromised solution.

Lest we forget with the P, the problem is happening inside the body, so toxic drugs to alleviate just push the problem inside more and toxify the body, but if a real bad aggressive itch then if not fungal on top of it, there truly is little other way right now.

Sadly all these diet fads and crazy cures are nothing more then affiliate marketing money making lying scams preying on the desperate to make some money. Its a pathetic business but is what it is.

I have found a good mix of things in a bath can provide some relief, but as far as like a cure cure, it doesnt exist, I'm sorry to say.

Good luck with it. Its truly an awful disease with nearly no hope of any long term positive result from anything.

Before doing a liver cleanse it is highly recommended that you do a thorough colon cleanse. If not then when you do the liver cleanse it backwashes into the colon and then this re-pollutes the liver and then the cycle repeats.

Diatomaceous Earth

I am a 68 year old woman and have had psoriasis on one elbow for at least 6 years. The skin area affected was about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. I read on the internet that diatomaceous earth would resolve this problem. I purchased a 25 pound package of human grade diatomaceous earth (DE) for about $25.00 on the internet. The suggested daily amount to take is 1 heaping Tablespoon in a glass of water. I took this amount for 4 weeks and the psoriasis totally went away. Several web sites also suggested that you make a paste of the earth and put it on the affected area. I did this several times but then just put the earth in water on a daily basis and drank it. This would possibly work faster if you did both the paste and drank the DE in water. I stopped using the paste because it was getting on my clothes. I had tried aloe vera and other skin lotions and that didn't work. Diatamaceous earth is silica and it seems likely that this is a deficiency of silica in the diet. You can purchase smaller amounts of DE for a lesser price if this is all you want to use it for. My guess is that it would take longer to clear up psoriasis that covers a larger area. I was really surprised that this worked in such a short amount of time. The reason I tried this was I read testimonials on at least 6 web sites that said this was effective in getting rid of psoriasis. I will continue to use DE. If this is a deficiency in the diet, my guess is that it would be good to take DE at least several times a week on an on-going basis. In addition to working on psoriasis, it is very inexpensive. If used only for psoriasis, a 25 pound bag should last for many years - likely the reason this is not promoted by the established medical industry.

I purchased the larger amount of DE as I wanted to use it for garden pest control. DE has more than 100 health, pet, garden, and household uses, is not a chemical, and has no dangerous side effects to people or pets.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Enzymes

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar changed my life. I have spent the last year and a half watching the psoriasis on my face get worse. I would wake up in the morning and have skin the size of a fingernail peeling off the areas around my nose. I tried using makeup to cover it but I'm a guy and it wasn't all that successful and the makeup seemed to aggravate the skin and make it worse. I thought I'd have to either take drugs that were known for causing serious side affects (cancer, organ damage, etc) or accept the fact that my face was going to become horrible to look at. Then someone told me about Organic Apple Cider Vinegar.

I went to the store and bought some organic, unfiltered, with mother, Apple Cider Vinegar. I began by putting a little in the cap and then using my fingers to apply it topically to the affected areas. I also began consuming 1 tablespoon each morning diluted in a small glass of water (it tastes very bad so I brush my teeth immedately afterward). Within 3 days I was noticing an improvement. Within two weeks it was all gone. It's been over a month now and I still do the same routine. I think I wll for the rest of my life. It supposedly has many other health benefits. I cannot yet attest to them but for psoriasis, it changed my life.

Aloe Vera, Coconut Oil

I have had every type of psoriasis that there is for forty years, including Koebners. Nothing but steroids have worked. BUT I have great news. I was given powerful steroid (betamethasone and cortisone combined) but told not to use it on my face. My outbreak extended over the whole of my body from scalp, lips (rare) face, to plaque psoriasis head to foot.

I have therefore had to rely on natural remedies for the face and lips. Aloe Vera applied to the face instantly gave relief from the itch but it made the skin dry and tight. I followed this with pure coconut oil. Between the two, my face has cleared completely in 6 days while my body is still slowly and nowhere near effectively being treated by steroids. I am also taking ACV and dandelion capsules for the liver, but if they were the major remedy I would have seen better results across my entire body. So for me the answer seems to be a combination of aloe vera gel and pure coconut oil. What a blessing! And I learned about it just from this site. Thank you all.

I researched the Budwig Protocol after I read about on a yahoo group about 4 years ago. To help control my asthma AND terrible psoriasis. I consumed the foundation meal (flaxseed oil/cottage cheese - focc) religiously for 5 months. My psoriasis totally cleared and my asthma improved immensely. This diet, once you get used to it, helps many conditions but is used primarily for cancer. This is a "great anti-inflammatory diet."

Till this day, I eat it 3 to 4 times a week for breakfast. Be sure to follow the exact guidelines if you are on a quest to cure cancer. Also, be careful to stop consuming "focc" 3 to 4 days before any surgeries as it thins your blood nicely. I am a true believer in this diet as a "cancer preventative".

Candida Connection
Posted by Herbgirl (Seattle, Wa, Usa) on 04/02/2011

Hi Bill,

I couldn't agree with you more. Psoriasis, eczema, etc. are all symptoms of something else that is wrong. Treating symptoms, and trying to treat just one part of the body without looking at the whole system, rarely gets anyone anywhere. A paradigm shift is needed indeed!

What first got me to look into self-treatment was when I began to have unexplainable stomach pains. I first went to the doctor for my stomach and she said, "oh tummy aches are very common. See if it goes away in a few months. " That was it! She didn't even examine me! I then went to a naturopath who said it could be food sensitivities. She tested me for gluten and dairy allergies, nothing. Like the doctor, she said, "see if goes away."

That was when I really took things into my own hands and hit the internet, discovering the candida connection to a host of ailments, including skin diseases, IBS, and other so-called untreatable illnesses.

Like any paradigm shift, if we do go to doctors it is our responsibility to speak up and share our own findings, even if the doctor shakes them off and tells us we're crazy. I have a friend who completely changed her doctor's perspective when she was prescribed antibiotics. She accepted the prescription but said she'd like to try some natural remedies first. She came back to her doctor in a week totally cured, and gave the doctor her own "prescription. " Since then, her doctor started to work with a naturopath and now prescribes alternative treatments before handing out antibiotics. So: there's hope!

In the meantime, viva self-empowerment and sites like this!!! :-)

High-Dose Vitamin C, Zinc and Vitamin D

I got rid of my psoriasis with vitamin D, zinc, and high doses of oral vitamin C!

I've had psoriasis since I was in middle school. I don't take medication, I don't drink and I eat pretty healthy so it's pretty well controlled. Occasionally I will still get a spot that pops up here and there.

Recently I was looking for a good vitamin C product to take in conjunction with my Vitamin D and zinc just for immune support. I happened across an article called The High Dose Oral Vitamin C Protocol for Cancer and Viral Infections on a site called Chris Beat Cancer. I read the article and figured if this guy beat cancer by taking high doses of vitamin C, surely it would work to strengthen my immune system.

I ordered 2 pounds of non GMO water soluble vitamin c in a fine powder form on Amazon. After about a month of following the protocol laid out on the Chris Beat Cancer site, my psoriasis is gone! What a pleasant surprise!

Avoid Nickle-Containing Foods

I recently developed a psoriasis condition. The dermatologist said it was the citrus shampoo I was using that caused it. I've used the same shampoo for many years. I started thinking about a nickel allergy I have and looked up nickel-containing foods. BINGO! Nickel is in coffee, canned goods and beans, for example. I switched shampoos just to be safe. I purchased one on Amazon called Honey skin. It worked like a charm. The inflammation is very low now.

Avoid These Psoriasis Triggers

Effects of Sugar, Acidic Foods, Proteins, Sleep/Fear/Stress and Gut Homeostasis

Here are two circumstances that created flares where psoriasis appeared suddenly, in new places (over my face and neck). I have never had it like this before, and have had only scalp psoriasis for thirty years. In both situations, my diet changed suddenly.

It might sound strange, but I am excited by the patterns! I hope you will clearly see the three elements that are common to guaranteed psoriasis outbreaks. My two cents at the end.

HOW TO INVOKE PSORIASIS FLARES, A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

[Circumstance 1: Vacation at parent's house for two weeks]

[Step 1] Eat daily diet of store bought BBQ chicken (2 days in the fridge then frozen), greens, coffee, soft cheeses with processed crackers and 1-2 glasses white wine. All of this was unusual for me. The greens didn't compensate for the acidic nature of the other foods, and the sugars in the wine and crackers. Usually I'd be gluten free, or close to it, and not eat processed foods.

[Step 2] Stress involved with packing and moving to a new location & wanting to pack a lot of luggage perfectly to make travel easier.

[Step 3] Sleeplessness due to worry about being late, not wanting to say goodbye on that note. This broadly translates to fear, stress, self doubt. I've noticed this is a primary trigger with psoriasis.

[Step 4] Went on a 5 day olive oil fast to try to correct. More on this in a separate post.

[Circumstance 2: Applying for Grad School on a Deadline During Lockdown]

[Step 1] Ate 1kg of sugar over a week. It is the first time I've had sugar in the house, and I went nuts with the deliciousness. After 7 days, I noticed the start of psoriasis on my eyelid (unusual). During this time I had to quickly try to decide how to spend the next six months, and there was a lot of uncertainty. Ate three cans of Kippers (smoked herring) over three days to try to get Omega 3s.

[Step 2] Sleeplessness due to concern about application. Offset the three hours of sleep by the gift of some gorgeous coffee someone sent me. While I stopped drinking coffee, I went to town, with 3 to 5 coffees over a day. The next day, the psoriasis was out in force, forehead, eyelids, behind the ears, over my ears. What the sugar and protein began, the coffee and lack of sleep turned into a quagmire.

[Step 3] Continue drinking coffee and not sleeping well. Not drinking much water, either. My tongue is now white. Before Step 1, my tongue had been pink. This indicates that

[Step 4] Attempt to offset psoriasis by eating lots of herbs and spices (sumac, cayenne, basil, rosemary, curry) in butter beans with coconut oil. Also having Vitamin C and green powdered drink, with pea protein and digestive enzymes to attempt to offset prior misgivings.

HYPOTHESIS: Psoriasis flares are the result of inflammation and ingesting foods that promote unfavorable bacterial and fungal growth. These conditions take time to resolve, however can be resolved by restoring balance. In scientific journals, this is known as "Maintaining Gut Homeostasis." Further resources are available via Google Scholar.

1. Sugar destabilises blood sugar, causing inflammation. It is also food for "bad bacteria" and candida to grow in the intestinal system. While in mainstream medicine, small intestinal fungal overgrowth (SIFO) is not commonly recognised, there are many studies in specialist scientific journals around Intestinal Candidiasis, accessible via via Google Scholar.

2. When the body is in a state of inflammation, it is less capable of tolerating proteins. This may be a result of changes in the intestinal structure during inflammation. It is also less capable of tolerating anything that may ferment in the intestines in a way that in open air would usually produce mold (e.g. coffee grounds, fruit, flours).

3. Caffeine and coffee contribute to inflammation by promoting acidity in the body. This may increase growth of unfavorable organisms in the gut.

3. Low quality sleep destabilises blood sugar and promotes inflammation. In part this is related to increased cortisol and stress levels, and circumventing the usual repair mechanisms that occur during deep sleep.

4. Self doubt and rejection are primary triggers for stress for all humans. The can be managed through establishing a lifestyle that promotes a healthy sense of self and good calm boundaries around that. An unbalanced gut promotes anxiety.

5. Die-off that can occur when we suddenly change the diet after promoting unfavorable gut organisms. The gut takes time to respond to changed conditions and heal. It takes less time to become unbalanced. Removing the triggers will remove symptoms, however the gut also needs to be healed. Olive oil fasting may help with this.

6. Early and focused intervention to maintain gut homeostasis after a dietary trigger results in a controlled and shorter psoriasis flare. Longer periods of gut imbalance lead to longer recovery times for the resolution of gut inflammation.

My elderly father had a horrible case of psoraisis. After researching I made this salve many times for him:

1/2 cup shea butter; 1/4 c castor oil, 1/8 cup aloe, 1 oz almond oil; 1/2 t Vitamin E, 5-10 drops lavender, 5 drops tea tree, 3-4 drops Myrhh & Frankencense essential oils. Melt over low heat, mix and apply. You can also add Neem.

The massage therapist we had seeing him 2x week called to ask what it was... she was amazed at how it helped heal in in a couple months and loved the way her hands felt. The thick skin disappeared on his elbows but we didn't have the oppty to see how it worked on the scarring as he passed. Liver detox is also important.

Vitamin B2

In reply to Col (Qld Australia),

I am glad that you were able to find something that worked very well for your psoriasis! That is sometimes not an easy thing to do. Do you mind saying what dose you used and what grade your psoriasis is or was, such as moderate, mild or severe?

Based on some old studies from the 1950's and one newer study that is currently recruiting, I tried vitamin B2, which is also known as riboflavin. I started out at 400 mg per day based on the proposed dose for the newer study that is currently recruiting. I took that dose for 4 weeks and when I didn't see any improvement, I increased the dose to 800 mg per day in two divided doses of 400 mg each.......one in the morning and one in the afternoon. After another 8 weeks, I still saw no improvement. The main things that I noticed is that it turns your urine an irridescent yellow/green color which is darker than normal and it also made my urine smell.

Judging by my lack of response, I would say that vitamin B2 / riboflavin will not work for all cases of psoriasis, but given the good safety profile of riboflavin, it certainly seems worth a try. Here is a link to the study that is currently recruiting:

https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02622386

Here is a link to a study from 1952 that had mixed results using injections of B2:

The other studies from the 1950's are listed, but not available.

About your psoriasis, it's all about changing your gut microme. That is the bacteria that inhabit your small and large intestine. I recommended 300-400 billion probiotics per day. You can get your probiotics from raw fermented food, kefir and refrigerated probiotics in pill form.

Psoriasis:

Easy cure. Apple cider vinegar is great but it is just not strong enough to kill various yeasts (Malazessia spp. [check it out on Google. What you need to do is dissolve 3 teaspoons of borax in half a cup of white vinegar. Pour this over your head (the yeasts begin their life-cycle here), and down onto your face and shoulders (and possibly your chest), and then leave it on for about 20/30 Min's whilst having a bath. Do this for about 3 days running (... If you can), and about once a week for a month. After the vinegar treatment, rinse your head/hair with half a cup of washing soda in a mug of warm water. At the slightest sign of any trouble repeat the treatment. Don't go anywhere near Doctors. Most are just crap at what they do.

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil for Psoriasis.

I developed plaque psoriasis on 1 knee and 2 elbows and guttate psoriasis on my legs 18 months ago. I tried every suggestion under dermatitis and eczema and psoriasis that I could do, applying topically, ACV, Oregano oil, Tea Tree oil, honey, coconut oil, GSE, etc. I have to say all topical remedies did not work for me at all. All the red spots just stayed red and never healed while moisturizing and treating with the above.

What did work was reading a couple of posts stating to do nothing to them, just wash them with a warm cloth. This made sense as I had a couple of spots on my back that I could not reach to treat and they healed on their own. So I also took the idea from the person who was taking coconut oil internally and it had healed his psoriasis. I stopped treating it externally with everything and started taking 1 TBLS of Coconut oil on Oatmeal each morning and another TBLS in a cup of hot chocolate at night. I believed the post that moisturizing from the inside would likely be the proper way to go. So taking the coconut oil internally each day, also 1 Vitamin B complex per day, 1 Vit. C 500mg. per day and 2 capsules of Essential Health Oil per day, (contains flax seed oil, black currant seed oil, Pumpkin seed oil & safflower oil) this all or maybe just the coconut oil? has healed one elbow completely, the other is almost healed, the knee plaque only has a tiny spot left and keeps shrinking and all the bright redness to the flat spots has disappeared. The backs of my legs and sides up my thighs are healed and all that is left is very light pink pigmentation spots on my shins. These are still healing and looking so much better that I can now wear shorts again with no concerns. I continue daily to just wipe them down with a warm wet thick cloth, (just water) and am having great success. The dry lines on my legs have disappeared and I am NOT moisturizing externally! Spots on my hands have completely healed as well. I was putting so much time into daily treatment topically, getting frustrated and I just wanted to say thank you to all the posters who try to help anyone with their suggestions. Those 2 posts were a hit for me and I wanted to share as well with others suffering. As a previous poster said "do nothing" to your psoriasis, they also stated it would take time, yes it does be patient, it's been 2 months for me to get to this stage.

Also I would like to add that I broke out with perioral dermatitis after using contact cement. I used your site and immediately applied ACV to the rash for a couple of days and applied Calendula cream after the ACV dried for a week and within days it healed and in one week completely gone! Thank you so much for this site and to all the wonderful people who take the time to help others!

Coconut oil, is wonderful, it took care of a white cyst on the corner of my eye after having it 6 mos, in 3 days! SESAME SEED OIL, is also wonderful listen to this: I used it on my dog who had a growing skin sore on her forehead, ( looked awful and scary, and the dog was very itchy) for over 6 mos, nothing worked, I started putting sesame seed oil and in 5 days it totally healed and the hair grew back in. Years later I developed psoriasis on my leg it was about 3"x 3" bright pink and scaly, and extremely itchy, I tried petroleum gels and it turned purplish and scaly, it looked awful and scary. I remembered the sesame seed and how it healed my chiuaua, so I purchased a bottle of SESAME SEED ORGANIC OIL and put it on, it started working almost instantly within an hour the bright pink was light pink, the itching stopped. I kept putting more on throughout the day, by the next morning the psoriasis flareup I have been dealing with for several weeks, is almost gone!!! It also worked on my very dry cracked palms, (I do massage so my palms crack and burn allot) All I can say is WOW! SESAME, SEED OIL is the BOMB!!!

My scalp psoriasis started making me insane. It only recently started after having psoriasis in my ears for years. A friend suggested psoriasis shampoo from Amazon. I did a search and didn't order the one she suggested but found one from Taiwan that was highly rated, I decided to try. It's spendy but I think a lot of other countries are ahead of us in research and development of more natural remedies. Long story short, I tried it and the reviews didn't lie. The itching stopped almost instantly. A day later, there is still itching on my neck, below the hairline, but not as bad. This is with one application, I feel confident it will continue to improve with more applications. If anyone wants to try it, it's a "scalp purifying" shampoo in a black bottle. There is still a very little habitual urge to scratch but if I ignore it, it goes away. Again, only one application.

You can pretty well substitute other brands for products listed. Just compare ingredients. The Lower Bowel Formula is a bowel cleanse. After I finished the procedures, I stayed on high doses of Oil of Oregano spread throughout the day. (I took 2 capsules every one to two hours while I was up) I am also using it on the scalp. Also find other candida cleanse products to alternate with the Oil of Oregano after 3 weeks. Then get back on it. It took away the itch and my skin is clearing. During the procedures I only ate Vegetables, nuts and seeds as recommended. Tough bit necessary. No sugar! I have struggled with skin issues mainly due to allergies and eating sugars. Learned my lesson and eating better now.

I decided to try Coconut Oil to see if it would help me lose some weight. It never, but I had another interesting side benefit. It has almost completely healed up my severe case of Psoriasis. It has at least taken it to the point that I can pay little to no attention to this ailment that has dogged me for almost 40 years now, since I was 7. I started off with two tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil, one in morning one late afternoon. After the short break that proved it was the coconut oil having an affect on my skin, I started using coconut oil capsules 1000mg twice a day, but had to up the dose to 2 1000mg twice a day. I have not experienced any flare ups yet and it has been more than a few months almost completely (old scars starting to fade)clear now.

Thana,

I have severe psoriatic arthritis (PA) and taking borax orally has kept it in remission for way over a decade now. I use Ted's dosing instructions that call for 1/4 teaspoon of borax dissolved in a quart of water for men and 1/8th teaspoon dissolved in one quart of water for women.

Drink one full mix each weekday and take the weekends off. I still have the PA as attested to by the ridges on my nails, but no joint inflammation, joint deterioration or pain. Nothing ever worked this good for my PA. Five days on and 2 days off.

I have a friend who had psoriasis really bad. It covered her whole body, her head too! I told her to take food grade (35%) hydrogen peroxide drops in a glass of distilled water as follows,

1. Take for 30 days.

2. Start with 1 drop day one, day 2, 2 drops, day 3, 3 drops continue to 21 drops if anytime you feel nausea back off a drop for a day and continue, take no more than 21 drops until the 30 days are up.

That was almost a year ago and her skin is clear and healthy! Hasn't had a outbreak since!

I've been reading a lot about hydrogen peroxide, is it safe to use in treating hep c?
