Castor Oil

Having UV is not invasive, not unnatural, and it works. I have UV for a couple of months each winter and am free of the problem through the summer months.

Castor Oil
Posted by Frances (Cabarlah, Qld.) on 05/19/2018

I wouldn't recommend inserting it personal opinion; however, apply externally as often as necessary, e.g. after toilet. I prefer to use a lighter oil during the day (jojoba, coconut) and use the castor oil with lavender essential oil overnight.

Platelet Rich Plasma Injection Therapy
Posted by Lisa (New Jersey) on 01/18/2024
★★★★★

Stem cell PRP is the only thing out there that comes close to a cure for LS. Dr. Nathan Newman in Beverly Hills California has performed this technique on over 200 LS patients all 100% show improvement or go into complete remission for years. See his Yelp. People confuse the two techniques:

PRP: platelet rich plasma: They also call it the O-shot or Vampire shot. The technique is, they draw your blood, spin it down and extract the plasma which rich with platelets. Then they inject the plasma into the affected areas. The platelets release multiple growth factors that stimulate the regeneration of health tissue in the genital area. It last for about 6 months to a year, however some patients go into complete remission with just PRP alone.

Stem and PRP therapy: is combo of PRP and stem cells. They first inject the PRP into the LS areas, then do a small liposuction removing fat from one area of the body (e.g. tummy) and inject it into the LS areas. The fat contains stems cells that can turn into the surrounding tissue. These stem cells also release anti-inflammatory chemicals prevent further inflammation. Also the PRP stimulates the stem cells to grow, and they continue to grow and take over the whole area bringing the genital tissue back to normal. The immune system does not recognize these new cells and therefore stop attacking the area rendering the patient ASYMPOTOMATIC! IT WORKS!

Frankincense Oil
Posted by Mama To Many (Tn) on 08/04/2018

Mary,

The bad reaction could be that the oils and water didn't mix well and you got essentials oils straight into your skin.

Baking soda does some as it is too alkaline for sensitive skin.

You might try to keep to a single ingredient to make sure it suits your body. Perhaps just castor oil to start.

I have had this condition for years since I was a young girl - I was also a molested child and went on to become a raped teenager, I have been given every medical treatment under the sun and nothing has worked for me I am in my early fifties now. I have been experimenting with Kawakawa, batheing in it and T-tree oil both have been useful in soothing the area, my itch drives me crazy at night, . I see I need to change my diet, which am going to do right now, thats the sugar, wheat, gluten, dairy. I have only recently started using apple cider vinegar in my bath water, gosh this sight is a dream come true for me... thanks so much for this information.

Eliminating Wheat
Posted by Elizabeth (New Zealand) on 02/27/2015

Fairly irrelevant but no, 90% of the wheat is not roundup ready. It is desiccated before harvest with round up but GMO wheat, though it exists is not approved for planting. What is out there is an accidental escape from test plots. I highly recommend avoiding any contact with RoundUp if you have any autoimmune issues at all, ever, under any circumstances. But, if Monsanto asks, I didn't say that.

I am 71 years old. Had treatment 2020. It's not a cure. Because I am old, I will go back for a touch up treatment November 4 ,2022. There is no cure, only treatments to live a semi-normal life. It has helped me tremendously.

Essential Oils
Posted by Karla (Nevada) on 08/04/2016

A major contributor to any autoimmune issue is gut dysbiosis... an imbalance of bad bacteria/yeast (too many) to the beneficial bacteria. Since yeast (candida) is part of the "imbalance", ridding your body of yeast is a great step in mitigating/reversing LS. I take Oregano essential oil internally (3-5 drops in a capsule), 2-5 times/day. Oregano oil is the number one "fungus killer".... got rid of the fungal infection on my husband's feet (thick yellow toe nails are an indication of a fungal infection) when used topically.

Oregano oil is a "hot" oil... it should be diluted 10:1 with a high quality vegetable oil when starting topical use.... see how you tolerate it...everyone is different. If you experience red, itching skin, dilute more or discontinue use if very bad.

I would NEVER put Oregano oil (even diluted) near my vaginal area... it hurts to even think about that... which is why I take it internally.

Again, 100% pure essential oils are mandatory for internal use.

After being on a low oxalates diet within a month my LS has reversed by 50% and still healing everyday! I hope this others -- I never thought in a million years I could reverse LS but it's possible. Baking Soda
Posted by Dud (The Woods Of, Wv, Usa) on 12/31/2011

Jay, why don't you try a series of 30 minute sitz baths using 1 tablespoon of borax washingn powder in the water, You could even throw in some baking powder if you wanted to. the borax is a powerfull fungicide, bacteria-cide, parasite-ide..... According to all reports on earthclinic.com.... Also safe to use. Even works on dog mange. Maybe throw in some hydrogen peroxide into the sitz bath also.

--------------------------

2nd idea: make yourself some garlic oil out of raw garlic infused in either virgin coconut oil, or cold pressed castor oil. Then use it as a lotion on the skin during the day. also a powerfull fungicide bacteria-cide. go to this website for directions on how to make it:

http://www.keephopealive.org/joi2003vol2.html

Garlic Oil Ointment
--------------------------

3rd idea - use castor oil as a anti-biotic salve on the area. It by its self is a anti-bacterial, anti-fungal. For some reason this is never pointed out by anyone. even the people who advocate it's use.

Emu Oil

When diagnosed with LS I was prescribed a steroid cream. The cream instructed to discontinue use after 2 weeks which concerned me so I went looking for another solution. The Doctor said it is one of those conditions that the medical field simply doesn't have an answer for... No one knows how you get it or how to cure it and I have found the same on the internet. The Purple emu oil is great. It is an anti-inflamatory and highly moisturizing which deals with 2 of the symptoms. It really keeps the LS symptoms to a minimum. I will also use it on blemishes, dry skin, and I rub some on my nails before bed time which keeps moisturized and nice.

Wanted to let everyone know... I started using Niacinamide and Lycine (mixed it in a small bottle of pure water) spraying it on the LS and then applying Argan oil, my symptoms have decreased by 60%. I also quit drinking coffee and the skin on the backs of my arms and legs cleared up. Not sure if this was an allergy and LS is connected but am not ruling it out.

This is such an awful disease. Hang in there.

Julia,

From reading through the entire blog, it seems there is something to coconut oil. I'm going to try it. I'm "frigid" from fear of a bloody show after intercourse, intercourse that is always painful. A certain MD forced me to have a biopsy, it was totally unnecessary, as it turned out. There is another product "Yes" - has anyone tried it or heard of it? Active ingredient is aloe vera. I'll let you know if it works to help the atrophy. I feel so badly that you have suffered so much. Let us know if the coconut oil helps, try a little first near the labia and just see how your skin looks and feels before using more. Blessings, Helen

I am 28 years old female who was diagnosed with LS in Aug 2010. After 2.5 years of continuing Yeast infection and Strep B bacteria since my honeymoon in Caribbean.

I believe after taking many antibiotics and Diflucan, my body collapsed!

I had a blood test and my natural path informed me that I am Lactose intolerant and I have to avoid Dairy and Gluten. I am taking Probiotic and Fish oil (Omega 3) and L-Glutamine (I guess to clean my liver. ) I have not seen any major changes to LS in my vulvar area. Yet, I can feel less gas (stinky gas), diarrhea, bowel movement and no more Yeast and Strep B bacteria.

Treatment:

Yeast: after unsuccessful 2 years of using Antibiotic, I used Boric acid and soaked my body in Baking soda every day for a few weeks which have been very very helpful. Even my husband did it too. I am free of yeast or bacteria now.

LS: I have been using lower dose of Topical cream which was useful at the beginning but not after 3 months. After the flare up and no sexual intercourse for a while because of the pain and itchiness, doctor gave me another higher dosage of cream, I have been using this for 3 weeks now and it is helping a lot. But I don't want to be dependent on this at all. I am young, still have another 50 years to go, can't use the cream for the rest of my life. I don't have any kids yet either.

My research shows that Omega 3 (fish oil), and probiotic are great to use to balance your body and create healthy skin. Healthy diet is another one, have a test or look at your blood group type and see what is better to eat for your body type. I did a cleanse in summer which helped my body to normalize and of course got rid of the yeast.

Also, I have found that Neem oil, Calendula oil, Emu oil are helpful. I have heard from a few professionals about Neem oil and Calendula, but rarely about Emu oil. So I was reluctant to buy Emu oil for my LS. Apparently, some people used Emu oil and it worked but not many professionals know about it.

Yesterday was the first night I used Neem oil and hoping to be helpful.

If anyone has any other suggestions, Please let me know.

Jen

Eliminating Artificial Sweeteners
Posted by Lynn (California) on 07/23/2014

Rita...for scarring: have you ever been offered estrogen cream (estradiol--prescription only in the U.S.) to apply to the scars? I have been reading that many people have seen their scars "break up" with the use of the cream. It doesn't matter what your age..even young children have shown improvement with it's use. It's not enough hormone to be absorbed by the body or change your own hormones. It's just a small amount rubbed into the scarred area. Do a search for Lichen Schlerosus and Estrogen Cream.

Chemical Link to LS
Posted by Maria (Gippsland, Australia) on 12/06/2010

It was either last year or early this year there was a report on a TV show (Landline I think) about the amount of formaldehyde that is in imported clothes that are made overseas. 700 times (and no the 700 is not a misprint) the normal level of formaldehyde was found when they tested them. It is used to help prevent creases and prevent insect and rodent damage whilst in storage. So who knows what other chemicals are used as well. I know of many people (myself included) who cannot even touch new clothes or any new material. It used to take 2 or 3 washes before I could use anything new. I used to have my mum or a friend do the 1st wash for me and then we could have it in our laundry. It now takes 7 - 8 washes before I can touch them. This includes soakings in bi-carb soda before washing. The last pkt of knickers have been washed so many times and left out in the rain but I still cannot get them clear. So it looks like the pennies will need to be saved to buy organic underwear.

Vaginal Medication Link to Ls
Posted by Montanamama4b (Billings, Mt) on 05/08/2010

I read on another website that it is common with LS to be extremely sensitive to any creams that have any of the -parabens in them. This can be methylparaben, propylparaben, etc. Since nearly every single cream out there needs the parabens to make it "creamy", be sure to read the labels very carefully.

Take care!

Also the B12, B6 and Folic acid to low homocysteine.. You will notice a difference with the above... But most importantly, exercise, (yoga) and meditation (walking, breathing)

Lichen Sclerosus History

2000 - 23 yrs ago, first symptoms were itching across lower belly and groin. No diagnosis, was prescribed steroid gel which controlled itching. Symptoms went away after 3-4 years.

Life was very stressful. I had given up my home, furnishings and everything that didn't fit into 10 boxes, to live with my sister on Maui. After 6 weeks, we fought and she dumped me and I was challenged with finding a home and work and knowing only one person.

2005 - New symptoms begin, vaginal itching and burning just like a yeast infection. NP gave me an antibiotic cream and a steroid gel. No diagnosis. The gel controlled the mild itching.

Life Stress Bad as I was in a very toxic relationship that lasted 7 yrs.

2012 - Symptoms escalate. Doc diagnoses as LS and gives me instructions to use a steroid cream, heavily, briefly mentions skin thinning as side affect and warns against any straining during bowel movements.

2020 - I find Earth Clinic and begin experimenting with natural remedies and diet as I am determined not to continue using the poisonous steroid cream (which works well to control my symptoms). Symptoms are the worst ever and disturb my sleep. COVID stress times.

Natural Remedies I've tried:

  • ACV - no help
  • Aloe Vera Gel 99% - soothing, best symptom control, but far from perfect.
  • Baking Soda and Borax - no help.
  • Comfrey calendula healing salve (DIY) - soothing, minimal symptom control.
  • Castor Oil - soothing and better symptom control
  • Tallow Balm (DIY) - soothing, minimal symptom control.
  • Diet - no sugar, less wheat, minimal dairy. My efforts were hit and miss, no affect on symptoms.

DMSO

Day 1, this almost eliminates symptoms after 4 applications and sleep was good at last.

Application:

Put 1/2 tsp aloe Vera in palm of CLEAN hand with 3 or 4 drops of DMSO. Mix with fingers and feel it warming, then apply liberally on CLEAN affected area working it in gently. Let the area dry thoroughly before coming in contact with anything. About 10 - 15 minutes. DMSO is transdermal and will carry anything it touches into your body; toxins from soap or laundry detergent, fabric softeners, dryer sheet toxins, etc. If you are confident you have a toxic free home and laundry, you could put on clean panties after a few minutes and get dressed.

I will continue mixing the DMSO with aloe Vera but eventually, I will mix it with tallow because of tallow's healing qualities for our skin. I render my own tallow from 100% grass fed beef. Tallow balms are sold on Etsy.

On LS:

I have mine under control using a protocol found on a white paper from a doc in CA. It is:

20 min. hot bath every night for 6 weeks, immediately after, rub pea-size amount of clobetasol in for 90 sec. No less. Then 20 min Hot bath every other night for 6 weeks, immediately after rub cream in for 90 sec. Then 2x a week for life.

This has worked for me but I want it gone. On the relations part, idk cause I'm too worried to try.

I'm going to try some things I found today on here but wanted to post this for the lady who is having a hard time & can't get it under control.

The doc had a video showing how getting the thicker type skin down there hot via a 20min bath softens the layers then rubbing the cream in for 90 sec helps the cream Penetrate multiple layers. I have no itch. It's amazing & I'm very happy but I would really like to find a way to not have to use the cream at all.

Good Luck Ladies & I hope this helps someone.

I also have LS. started like white streaks, blisters, pain, itching. It came on suddenly. I had it dx by a Gyno and was told you can only keep it at bay, no cure. I use steroid cream alternately with Aquaphor. Stay away from chlorine, pools, hot tubs as this will aggravate your symptoms. It has started to atrophy and my labia is almost gone. It really hits your confidence as a women and sex can be painful. I recommend letting your significant other see this condition, let them know it is not contagious. They need to be gentle with you and if they love you as my husband does, it helps alot with self esteem. I also am frustrated that there is no studies on this as it affects so many women, men. I feel it is from trauma to your skin. I was a gymnast and rode horses, farmed etc. I also had a 9lb baby and had an significant episiotomy. I make sure to wear only cotton underwear and all natural soap, no perfumes etc. I feel also I am totally willing to try the castor oil mixture. Good luck to you all, be nice to yourself it is not something we ever thought we would get.

Epsom Salt Baths, Vitamin E

My LS is superimposed on atrophic vaginitis brought on by menopause. I relate to the intense nerve jangling initiated by any washing/drying of the vulvar area, which has shriveled and appears as if all the blood has drained out.

As a remedy, I have been taking daily, 20-minute sits baths with 2 handfuls of epsom salts. Very soothing and relaxing. Then, carefully pat dry the external area only, so as not to start the nerve reaction, or tear the thin sensitive vulvar skin, or cause bleeding. Then, I follow with Vitamin E oil to lubricate and aid in healing the labia, vulvar skin.

This leaves the area feeling cool and calm...

Hoping for long-term relief and healing!

I was using bag balm when I didn't really know what I had, saw a blister...anyway, went to gyno and was diagnosed with LS. I also have IBS so that is a constant issue...Dr told me bag balm though wasn't really effective and may have made it worse. I had a complete hysterectomy last year. I do take estrogen because I was severely depressed. I do believe what you eat is a big factor. Before this diagnosis I lost 23 on WeightWatchers. The dr also said that a low estrogen level and rapid weight loss has also been noted as a cause of LS.

Besides all this, I already have had skin cancer, recently they found a freckle in my eye, this year it is raised so I see a retina specialist to rule out ocular cancer..and my Mother had anal-rectal cancer and a colostomy bag..she was in remission for 7 years but passed away in 2014 of liver cancer. My grandmother had Uterine cancer.

I'm no dr but I'm trying to figure out what things are linked together. I have nerve issues as well and my IBS has been going on since I returned from Desert Storm 27 years ago, we believe we were exposed to chemical agents. Now this LS thing is worrying me that I may get cancer in that area...

I was diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosis on April 16, 2015 after my OB GYN did a vulvar biopsy. I had been suffering for 20 months with symptoms but the current flare up has been the worst ever. My doctor prescribed the steroid, clobetasol, but I must be allergic to one of the preservatives because my symptoms became even more intense. I have stopped the steroids and I'm searching for some type of relief. What has been very soothing is using organic coconut oil before (used as a barrier) and after going to the bathroom. Two days ago I picked up a homeopathic remedy for shingles at the health food store that has greatly reduced the itching and pain. It did sting when I applied it so I have been diluting it with castor oil.

My question: Has anyone tried UV Light Therapy as a treatment for LS?? I had a horrific eczema outbreak on my legs and after using the UV Light Therapy, it completely sent away and has never returned.

Castor Oil
Posted by Evie (Ca) on 06/17/2015

Thanks for the blog plus this new possibility of remedy. I have been suffering with LS nearly 10 years. I have been seen by numerous doctors but none seem to have a cure. There are doctors in Ohio who are claiming they've cured patients with penicillin injections but it's imperative to make sure you are not allergic or it could cause death.

For the past few years, I've been taking antibiotic twice daily as these same doctors have found the bacteria Borelia is the cause of LS. It has kept the LS from progressing although it is all over my body as well as my neck, chin and sides of my face. I went to a doctor who uses the light box therapy but he said it might further my condition. Coconut oil has given me some relief and I think it may even be reducing the white patches and hopefully my skin will become pink again! Good luck to all who suffer from this....

I have used one or two drops neat (without diluting) unless the area to treat is a sensitive one, in which case, I would mix it one drop with a bit of castor oil or coconut oil and apply to the area one to three times a day.

I have had wonderful success with Vitamin E oil as well! I posted this under “remedies.” I get a burning sensation, so I just apply a drop of the oil to the hot area, and it soothes it almost immediately. I haven't had a flare-up for a couple of weeks, so I'm just applying it after I shower every morning as I'd rather stave it off than deal with a flare-up.

Have you or anyone else tried comfrey skin cream for Lichen. And I am looking for a good Red clover cream or salve to apply to the vaginal area...any suggestions please. My lichen has now begun under the hood of my clitoris and I am desperately trying to save it from closing over. Thank you to all!

I have has LS for 5 years now and I'm only 16 years old. So far no doctor has been able to figure out a cure to LS. I've done my own experiments and I've been using Shea Butter for 3 years and I rarely have flare ups or any itching. Though I notice I have more discharge but it's worth not having unbearable itching.

Essiac Tea, Homeopathy

Dear Jerene,

Personally, I would want to find something else to try first. When I look at cures for LS, I see a number of things I would try before Essiac if I was expecting. I am a huge fan of herbs and use them often. Herbal medicine can be quite powerful. So, I would hesitate to use Essiac in pregnancy. In a cursory search, I was not able to find that the ingredients in Essiac, individually, were contraindicated for pregnancy, I would still err on the side of caution with an herbal blend that is able to cure cancer.

That said, if I had cancer and had to pick between Essiac and chemo, I would pick Essiac.

When I look at Earth Clinic's cure page for LS, I see things like Apple Cider Vinegar, baking soda, dietary changes, eliminating artificial sweeteners, etc. I would be more comfortable with trying those things first.

I hope you find a cure soon! And I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy!

Essiac Tea

Joni, it is made from different plants. It is an old native american cure and people are claiming it shrinks tumors. Its so gently you can use it on your animals. Chemotheraphy patients are using it along with thier Chemo. It comes in all forms... Powder... Pills... Liquid... I prefer liquid... I have a hard time swallowing pills. I hope it works for others. It is wonderful not being itchy especially at night. I have some scaring on my wrists but all other scars have healed. If this doesn't cure others... than I have received a miracle from God.

I buy mine from a [local] health food store. It is also sold online by different people who sell it. Usually health food stores have it and it is in the detox section of the store. I live Hawaii where everything is shipped in so, I purchase it for about $25 a bottle. I plan on taking this 3 times a year. Next year, I will buy a bottle in March, July and then in November.

I would treat it like a detox and only take it a few times a year. A bottle of drops lasts me about 2 weeks. When taking it I feel great... I even get a zing in my step. But I wouldn't take it every day all year long. Just a few times a year to reclean and purify your body and blood. Again, if you do take it and it works or doesn't work let me know. If it doesn't work, than I know it was a miracle I was healed and I will quit telling people about Essaic. If it does work than we can let everyone know it really works. I have yearly appts. Now with my doctor and she doesn't know I am cured. I can't wait for my appt and bring the bottle of Essaic Tonic Tea with me.

Zinc Oxide

I have used Emuaid and it does offer a great amount of relief. I just ordered some more yesterday as well as the bar soap. I just with is wasn't so strong. I feel like people must smell it on me. I think it has turpentine in it. I have had LS for about 8 years, and like most on here, I have tried many things. I just turned 53 and think I am now heading into menopause and I've now been experiencing intense itching that is not leaving me alone at night or in the am. Also, I've noticed some of those sores that people talk about which I never had before. I just went to naturopath nurse and did a pap and will have results this week. She was going to test my hormones as well and I she did a complete thyroid panel as I have Hashimoto as well. I know there is a connection to the 2 I just wish we could figure this out. I know the medical field has the answers, they just want to make money. I really wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy! So painful and stressful sometimes! I've tried Vitamin E, it's ok. I've tried, Boric acid suppositories recently and wondered if that's why my problem seems to have exasperated, perhaps I kicked up some fungus/candida and now need more to rid myself. I know food is definitely a factor, high oxalates and inflammatories. Clobetosol had worked well in the past to stop the attack until hormones or stress or food made it act up again. But recently it burns and does not stop the itching!!! I also have recently done a few castor oil packs and I got this mark on my belly that looks like ringworm, so I'm wondering if I did something with my hormone balance that caused a shakeup and just need to keep doing it to get it right. I do take sitz baths with epsom salt, borax, baking soda, ACV. I am going to try some lavender and frankincense oil w/castor oil to see how that works. I'm hoping if this nurse can help with hormone balance, that will help a lot!! I can't just keep living like this every day! It's so hard to tell people what you're suffering from because it's so personal and in such a private place. I thank God I'm not the only one suffering, because how would we learn if we weren't all here talking about this!! Keep experimenting and sharing ladies!! WE GOT THIS!!! God bless you all!!! Wishing you health and happiness!! And a healthy vagina!!! :)))

I have LS. Was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago... I was prescribed the steroid cream and it caused atrophy really bad.. Clitoris disappeared.. I no longer use it. I have severe itching and pain when I urinate and it gets on labia. I read on here about the baking soda.. I tried it last evening but I added baby oil. I am simply amazed at the progress I made with this combination... I actually got some sleep... I also have sjogrens disease which is in the lupus family, I am diabetic, and have fibromyalgia... This combination has helped me more than anything I have tried... Any more input would be much appreciated. thanks so much for the baking soda tip...carol
