Emu Oil

For LS, I have been trying purple emu oil with good results. As they say this condition is related to autoimmunity problems, I have also been taken probiotics, which they say are good for calming an overactive immune system. I will keep the earth clinic community posted on my progress.

Vitamin E

I have found that the burning sensation I get from Lichen Sclerosus (biopsy diagnosed) is alleviated by Vitamin E oil! I just apply to my “hot” area as often as needed. Amazing relief. I have a steroid prescription too, but I'm concerned about using a product that tells you to use as little as possible. 😳

Dietary Changes

I have found diet extremely important for lichens healing. I eat a vegan diet with salmon, no sugar, alcohol or night shade vegetables, I also use apple cider vinegar and water sprayed on after urinating. I bath in baking soda every second night and I use only natural products for cleaning. Don't scratch. I am healing more everyday and have no itch.

Hello, 10 plus years with LS. I have done all the known therapies. I have found much relief with the essential oil of oregano mixed with coconut oil. 2 tsp of coconut oil to 30 drops of oil. Apply as often as you can, oil of oregano is a HOT oil meaning DO NOT APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE SKIN IT WILL BURN always use a carrier oil like coconut, took care of itch white spots and atrophy.

Castor Oil, Peroxide, Essential Oils

LS: Dry it out first! Cures it completely

I was using castor oil with lemongrass and lavender as well as hydrogen peroxide 6% - the itching had gone but the white patch wasn't going.

I rolled a small section of a panty liner up and wedged it next to the sore and taped it in place with micropore tape before bed. After massaging the hydrogen peroxide solution in the next morning (quite vigorously), most of the white stuff wiped off with a tissue. One more night of the same and the rest of it came off. Now the skin is pink and I'm just using castor/lemongrass/lavender oil to make sure it doesn't come back.

I'm so relieved it seems to be completely cured. I had a patch about the size of a 5p piece on my labia minora. I think drying it out killed it completely, and surprisingly it didn't irritate the skin around it. Hope this helps some others get rid of it completely as well.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Baking Soda, Coconut Oil

Lichen Sclerosus

ACV on a damp cotton swab, dab onto vagina labial and pat dry then apply a mix of baking soda with coconut oil, relieved the itch and burning sensation. Cheap and effective. I stopped the estrogen cream as I suspect this occurred shortly after I started. I don't want to start the steroid cream, as it causes more problems. Also quit smoking 6 days now along with gluten and caffeine and cut back 90%of my sugar intake. Eating more greens, astragalus, oregano and mint and no processed food. Will check in after my next gyno appointment in Aug.

Niacin for Lichen Sclerosus

Niacin caused burning so the pharmacy told me to take it with aspirin to remove the burning and it worked 100%.

Comfrey

I cured the LS with a comfrey cream imported from Croatia. I suffered so much the whole last year that I did not want to live. My Croatian friend gave me the comfrey root based Croatian cream. It healed me. I don't have the itch and the inflammation anymore. I use it once or twice a day consistently.

Castor Oil

Can you tell me, did it make any white patches go away? Make anything infuse, or just relieve itching and tearing?

Platelet Rich Plasma Injection Therapy
Posted by Ocean51 (Carmel, Ca) on 06/27/2016

After 5 years of suffering with Lichens Sclerosis, I must share what has given me relief and remission. My husband researched treatments and found an OB/ GYN in a neighboring county, who provides Platelet Rich Plasma Injection Therapy. This is an experimental treatment, and I am the 3rd patient she has treated with "PRP" for Lichens.

The 3 treatments with an out of pocket expense of $800 each have completely cleared all of my itching, Burning and white patches. Upon my follow up exam, my doctor stated she could not tell I had lichens! I do not have a reversal in vaginal tissue elasticity, but I believe my peri menopause contributes to that condition. My 3 outpatient treatments were completed in less than 2 hours each, and were non invasive. The process begins with your own blood draw that is put in a centrifuge for about 15 minutes. The platelet the rich plasma is drawn into a syringe and injected in the affected areas (with a large needle to protect the platelets) OUCH!, but the local helps a lot.

This 3 round treatment over 6 months completely cleared my lichens. No creams, steroids or prayers could do that. I was told to come back every 6 months, and that I may require more treatments. After a year I am still clear. This doctor was the first of 3 gynecologists to actually do a biopsy to confirm lichens sclerosis, I am forever grateful to her for taking the bold steps to help me.

FYI PRP is also known as the O shot and the Vampire Facelift, and is thought to restore healthy tissue and blood flow. Read up on it to see if this is an option for you. I know I would pay almost anything to rid myself of the agony of Lichens Sclerosis.

Sitz Baths
Posted by Wolf5alpha (Portland, Oregon) on 08/22/2015
★★★★☆

I have recently been diagnosed with lichen sclerosis. I have had severe itching and after trying many things which seem to relieve it for about a week and then it is like it develops some immunity to it, I tried vagisil. This has given me the most relief as a cream. But what has actually been helping to heal it and give much longer relief is sitz baths. I use some epsom salt, lavender, chamomile, comfrey, yarrow, and marigold, steep this in a sitz bag for a bit and add it to a very shallow warm bath. Then I add baking soda to the water and soak for 20-30 minutes. Doing this twice a day is best. This is still very new to me and I'm horrified to find out it is chronic and the damage it causes. I haven't tried the steroid cream yet but after reading the many replies, I'm very concerned about using it at all.

Skin Cream
Posted by Vg (Sc, US) on 01/28/2015

Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream works as well (if not better) then the prescription Clobetasol. It has all natural ingredients so can be used long term with no bad side effects. My OBGYN said that it was ok to use. The thought of using a steroid cream for the rest of my life bothered me. Glad to have found something safe. Buy it at Costco (best price), Whole Foods or online. Just use as often needed.

LS and Hypothyroidism Connection
Posted by Queenie (California) on 08/19/2017

This comment is a little harsh, judgey and might not be true.

It is a very emotional thing, having LS and knowing that stress makes it worse. In fact there is "a going back". There is. I am not there yet, I have just discovered it. But hundreds of women that I have read from in the past week have said that they are experiencing NO symptoms and taking wheat sugar and processed foods out of their diet did the trick. No, I won't say cure- as that would cause an argument. But no symptoms. So there is a "over the rainbow" place for many women. We can't be so harsh online- every single body is different, and some heals faster then others.

Anti-Candida Diet
Posted by Linda (Seattle, WA) on 02/18/2015

I have been on a paleo diet for over 5 years and my Lichen Sclerosus started about 1 1/2 years ago! Not sure if diet is a preventive, but I think mine would be worse if I didn't eat healthy.

Have had LS for last six years. Severe pain and itching. Some days could hardly walk. I starting using cold water in a sitz bath every day what a relief. Every time I urinated poured cold water from tap overVJ. Also take evening primrose oil two or three a day. At night open a gel cap of the oil put on VJ. I am 90% better. I have tried everything. Cold Water is working for me.

Anti-Candida Diet

I was originally dianosed with Lichen Sclerosis in the late 80s (my early 20's) with extreme redness, swelling and white stripes on my labia minora. Treatment with cortisone via skin specialist was painful and did nothing. A naturopath put me on a Candida diet which we extended to wheat free whilst also using homemade golden seal pessaries nightly. In 9 months I had lost about 10kg (healthy weight for me) and all symptoms. My skin in that area has been thinner since and prone to minor splits, usually during times of stress and my periods. I'm not sure if it's related but I have also developed 4-5 largish subserosal amd pendunculated subserosal fibroids (up to 11cm) in the last 5 years.

Recently I have had a flare up of intense itching in the crease areas of the groin, also due to stress and can easily remove skin if I scratch even firmly. I will get it checked but am looking at the original solution to deal with it. I'm also looking at Red clover tea and will report what happens.

Low Oxalates Diet
Posted by Sandra (Ottawa, Ontario) on 04/28/2012

I have had LS for a year now. I went on the Low Oxalate diet in September and noticed that the itching immediately began to subside (a HUGE relief considereing I was returning to work and hadn't been able to wear pants for the past 4 months). I had also been experiencing extreem fatigue and digestive issues, which went away within a matter of days. After about a month I was at a confrence and cheated by eating a sandwich and cookie. I was exhausted.

I switched up the low oxalate diet for a gluten free diet and found that the fatigue and digestive symptoms went away, the LS became gradually less itchy, and the white patches started to disappear. I have not had to use steroid cream for months and I have been able to resume a normal sex life. After a significant improvement I realized that while the dietary change was helping it was not the only answer. I had also noticed that the itching would be the worst when I was lying down or sitting for long periods of time so I started jogging. I started off with 2km and have worked up to 6km 3 times a week. I think that the extra blood flow may be what is helping, because I did do regular excercise before, but it was yoga which was much lower impact and much less demanding to the cardio-vascular system. I would like to mention that I have also not had athsma for months since changing my diet. Trying the low oxalate diet an was the best thing did for my LS.

Anti-Candida Diet
Posted by Andrea (Eagle Lake, On, Canada) on 03/02/2015

I had chronic vaginal yeast infections all my young adult life. I was taking Canestan at least once every 3 months for years. Now I'm 66 and I was diagnosed with vulvar Lichen Sclerosus 13 years ago.

A connection? Seems logical.

The LS symptoms are under control with diet (no dairy, wheat, sugar, flour) and drinking lots of pure water, plus doses of lactobacillus and digestive enzymes, all of which were originally prescribed for IBS, so they keep my gut (and therefore my whole system) healthy and alkaline.

Vaginal Medication Link to Ls
Posted by Jami (Roanoke, Va) on 01/30/2010

I've just been diagnosed with LS, how fun. I have been treated many times in the past for yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis. I believe you may be on to something BIG. I also believe that stress and perhaps past trauma/emotions may have an impact on what is happening now.

Vaginal Medication Link to Ls
Posted by Jonimoso (Fraser, Michigan, Us) on 05/01/2011

I was diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosis 7 years ago. According to my doctor "no known cause no known cure" -- just take this prescription for the rest of your life and you'll never get better. I also thought it may be linked to use of products for vaginal candida which I used just about every other month for about 5 years before being diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosis. Struggled with vaginal candida for many years, but now am free of it. I used 1 teaspoon of dissolved ionic mineral salt in 1 ounce of water, followed by 1 liter of purified water daily for 3 weeks and have had no more candida and also, no more flare ups of lichen sclerosis. Can't say I'm cured, since I haven't seen a doctor after using it, but am extremely happy with the results. Also in the past, I have used organic coconut oil in the vaginal area (anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, anti-fungal) for lubrication and sensitivity. IMPORTANT NOTE: Coconut oil breaks down latex condoms, so use polyurethane instead. Hope this helps.

Vaginal Medication Link to Ls
Posted by Mary (Encino, California) on 01/04/2012

I am 60 years old. I was diagnosed with LS about 3 years ago and prescribed clobetasol which seemed to keep it from progressing. About a year ago and about 6 months after I had a gyn exam, I was horrified to discover that my labia was all but gone, I had scar tissue covering my clitoris, and the hood was at least 50% fused.

I have been receiving UVB light treatments (excimer laser) twice a week at first and now once a week for almost a year. Plus I use the clobetasol 2 weeks on and 1 week off. My symptoms have completely reversed. The scarring/lesions are gone. It took a bit of effort to get my insurance company to pay for the treatments, but they couldn't deny the supporting research. The clitoris, hood, labia have returned to normal. Occasionally I have some white patches and itching on the week I'm off the clobetasol. I have also eliminated sugar, wheat, dairy, and artificial sweeteners from my diet for about six months, which is why I think I have been able to reduce the treatments to once a week.

In my research I found and visited a cosmetic gyn who developed a surgery to unbury the clitoris without damaging the nerves. His name is Dr. Ostrenski. He is located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Doctors comes from all over the world to study his technique.

Ozonated Olive Oil

★★★★★

Hi All, First: thank you for all the help and advice, you are lifesavers. Second: the best thing I have found for LS is ozonated olive oil. I use it every other night and have NO symptoms and my red skin has turned a shockingly normal pink. I left my ozonated olive oil in the frig for about a month, scared to try it. It does burn at first, for about 10 minutes. It gets better each usage after because it is healing your sensitive skin! Good luck and good health to you all.

Castor Oil and Essential Oils

Yes castor oil can be used vaginally. Please be very careful with lemongrass on the skin, especially delicate skin. It is strong and can burn. No more than 1 drop per tablespoon castor oil. On delicate tissues, dilute lavender as well.
