MSM

I have been taking MSM for a while now and I have to say my asthma/COPD is much improved. However, MSM does contain sulphates which some individuals may be sensitive to and may cause some side effects. I have read from a very good source that this can be largely overcome by taking a supplementation of molybedenum(500mcg). Hope this helps.

Hydrogen Peroxide Inhalation Method

After living with COPD for several years my condition recently got worst to the point that I could barely manage simple chores like taking out the garbage. 2 wks ago my Pulmonary Doctor told me to use Oxygen 24/7 and to use an Albuterol inhaler twice a day and as needed for emergencies.

A few days later I had a serious incident from trying to climb some stairs, and almost passed out. The next day I had another incident from a minor exertion. I believe that an angel must have directed me to the earthclinic web site because I found the Hydrogen Peroxide treatment there. I am lucky enough to have a better system to administer the Hydrogen Peroxide than using asquirt bottle. I have a machine for my Sleep Apnea where I sleep with a mask that covers my nose and mouth and the machine provides positive air pressure to keep my wind pipe open. The machine also has a water tank of about 6 oz to keep the air moisturized.

I began my treatment with standard drug store 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, and dialuted it 50/50 with filtered water. I braethed that mixture for 8 hours that night and in the morning my lungs were clear. I didn't have the usual coughing fit to clear my lungs of mucus. The next night I used a 30% mixture instead of 50% and the results were just as good. I stopped using my hand held inhalers entierly. I again cut the dose down to 20% and still had the great results.

On the 10th day I awoke with so much energy that I changed the bed sheets, vacuumed the floor and cleaned the bath room. 2 weeks before this I could barely walk across the room.

The Peroxide treatment is a blessing to me.

Multiple Remedies

For the many sufferers from COPD:

1) Get a baseline spirometry test done by an MD,

2) have a CT-scan,

3) have a sputum culture and sensitivity testing for possible pathogens,

4) items #3 and #4 help to rule out more serious complications like bronchiectasis and colonized pseudomonas aeruganosa, which is nearly impossible to eradicate with antibiotics,

5) acetyl L-carnitine 1000 mg. 3x/day has been proven to loosen mucous secretions and helps to promote their elimination (an amino acid available in health food stores).

6) avoid 2nd hand tobacco smoke, campfire smoke and all other lung irritants.

7) Even the most serious infections may be helped by intermittent prescribed nebulized antibiotics (tobramycin and colistin) when necessary. 8) MSM is safe to use in fairly high daily dosages (start with 1 tsp. 3x/day and gradually increase to 1 tbsp 3x/day.

9) Unfortunately, very little research has been done in humans with DMSO for COPD, which should probably help some antibiotics to become effective against MDRAs (multiple drug resistant antibiotics).

10) Nebulized hypertonic saline has also been reported to be beneficial for loosening pulmonary secretions in COPD.

(1) UNCERTAIN

Hello Ted and EarthClinic -- Here are some results from Ted's COPD remedy (DMSO and MSM). These tests and results are not very scientific, but we did follow most of Ted's suggestions. TWO middle-aged males --Former Long Term Smokers-- tried the following:

1.) Drank ONE TABLEspoon of (powdered) MSM in 8 oz glass of water. (This stuff tastes TERRIBLE! May try mixing with juice next time.) 30 minutes later, we each inhaled FIFTY (50) deep breaths of 30% DMSO to 70% water. Neither of us noticed any immediate results.

2.) 5 Hours later, we each inhaled ONE HUNDRED (100) deep breaths from the nebulizer, with the same dilution ratio -- Neither of us noticed any immediate results.

3.) DAY TWO: We each inhaled ONE HUNDRED FIFTY (150) deep breaths from the nebulizer, only at 70% DMSO to 30% water. (NOTE: This may be over the ratio that Ted recommends) Still no results were evident. We were hoping for more noticeable/immediate results, but I believe we just didn't stay with it long enough.

4.) We each tried 70% DMSO to 30% water in an ATOMIZER (Nasal type --Afrin bottle-- DO NOT INHALE THROUGH THE NOSE IF YOU TRY THIS--MOUTH ONLY!!) Each took a VERY DEEP BREATH while getting 5-6 pumps out of the ATOMIZER. (THIS ALSO TASTED UNBELIEVABLY BAD!). Still, no obvious results.

We are suspending our experiments until we decide which approach to continue. I WILL POST ANY ADDITIONAL RESULTS, OR COMMENTS RECEIVED FROM TED. Thanks to EARTHCLINIC AND TED !!

I will email this to Ted and hope he can add some additional comments or suggestions. My questions to Ted, his availability allowing are:

1.) Should we continue with 150 deep inhales of 70% DMSO per day?
2.) If so, about how many days of treatment until we would expect some results?
3.) What are your thoughts on the 70% DMSO/30% water via ATOMIZER?
4.) Are the MSM AND NIACIN (500 MG/DAY, NON TIME RELEASE) crucial to success?
5.) Any other comments or suggestions?

-------------------------

06/24/2009

TED'S RESPONSE TO MY EMAIL AND SUGGESTIONS:

A DMSO may dissolve the tar if the congestion is caused by a tar. If the lungs were damaged physically of non tar in nature, the DMSO won't work. A curcumin taken a couple of times a day or a curcumin mixture with DMSO appears more suitable. A 70% DMSO may hurt the throat or lungs as concentration maybe too high for some people.

1.) Should we continue with 150 deep inhales of 70% DMSO per day?

Most improvement appears that some DMSO was taken internally and some DMSO nebulizers were used but the improvement is a gradual one. A clogged capillaries or a damaged one can be due to tar, calcium or tissue damage. A tissue damage then some healing is needed with a curcumin supplements.

2.) If so, about how many days of treatment until we would expect some results?

It takes at least a month. A short term two or three days would get any results. It's done gradually.

3.) What are your thoughts on the 70% DMSO/30% water via ATOMIZER?

Some people don't like the 70% DMSO as it stings their nose and throat. While its result maybe faster, it maybe irritating.

4.) Are the MSM AND NIACIN (500 MG/DAY, NON TIME RELEASE) crucial to success?

I don't like Niacin use because of the flush, but I do like the addition of MSM and DMSO. A niacin use may help some breathing but never time release. An aspirin taken 30 minutes before a niacin used will stop the flush and may help the capillary circulation into the lungs to be return to some extent by clearing some blocked circulation. But this doesn't resolve the calcification that may occur also.

5.) Any other comments or suggestions?

A damage lung tissue requires healing, and this is where curcumin comes in, taken internally or perhaps what I am looking into is the possibility of adding only a small amount of curcumin as a nebulizer. That's just the current possibilities I am looking into. If it take years for COPD to happen getting results in a matter of days is not possible. An objective measure appears to be a blood oxygen test but after a month's of use. Not all COPD are due to tar, but can also be tissue damage in the lungs, and hence the curcumin. A capillaries may be clogged not from the tar, but also fats and calcium has to be considered also.

Dietary Changes

Spices and COPD, Chronic Bronchitis:

A year ago, I was diagnosed with chronic Bronchitis - COPD, so severe that my ears turned blue from lack of Oxygen. My blood pressure was very high, too. The DOT immediately yanked my Health card for driving truck. When I went to the Dr. my Oxy saturation level was 81. He put me on an inhalor and I had to use a Nebulizer several times a day. Nothing really changed. I could breathe a little better, but was still able to walk only for short distances.

I love to cook, and tried to think of the healthiest people that I know. I started cooking with spices from China, India, and other Asian areas. I use curry powders (in various heat ranges), Turmeric, Cayenne, Garlic, Ginger, Paprika, Mustard, Wasabi, and others. I use one or more of these ingredients in every meal, and most snacks, that I cook.

About two months ago I had a physical, blood work, and EKG in preparation for surgery. My lungs no longer "wheeze" (I do have a bad day once in a while...but not DAILY); my blood pressure was normal; my Oxy sat level is 95 to 97 percent; (both) Cholesterols were at healthy levels, and, except for my COPD, I am as healthy as can be! The best result of eating all that good, spicy-hot, healthy food is that I can walk at least a half a mile without "running out of breath."

I have NEVER posted to any Website but feel that people should be aware of the benefits of spices and herbs. I have now found a local store that sells 1 pound packages of spices, instead of paying $4 to $7 in grocery stores for those little bottles. The savings are phenomenal. This is the best site that I have found that re-enforces my belief in hot foods. Thank you EARTH CLINIC.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

i have copd & on 2 inhalers & one powered inhaler. first 2 every 6 hrs as needed ,the third 2 xs a day. was 49 when informed of this, am 54 now& this treatment is not working. have a couple air purifers in home to clean air but this really brings little comfort. my dr. says there is no cure for this but we can control it to some point. but i can"t seem to settle for this answer when i am finding it harder to breath sometimes the pressure in my chest so bad i am gaspping just to take a breath. feels like a heavy rock laying on my chest.

then i started to do reseach on h2o2 therapy. using 35%food grade hydrogen peroxide. dosage schedule for undiluted 35% h2o2 first day 3 drops, 3 times a day .. second day 4 drops, 3 times a day ... increasing each day by two drops until you get up to 25 drops, 3x per day x 25 drops= 75 drops.at your peak for 1 / 3 weeks ... then you start to reduce the dosage like 25 drops every other day, 4 times a week ...25 drops every third day for 2 weeks .... to 25 drops every 4 days for 3 weeks. DO NOT stop taking it if you feel sick until you complete the program because this sickness is due to the toxics in your body that are being destroyed by the h2o2..... boy i must be full of toxins cause i feel sick to my stomack but i really can inhale/ exhale much easier. i am trying to do this to the end but i can only get up to 25 drops 2 x s per day for 2 more days & i will start to back down. have i done this all wrong?

This is a reply to Patsy in Brisbane, Australia posted 7/14/2007. I am sorry I have not replied to your question. Have not visited the site for a while. Use 5mls of Colloidal Silver in your nebuliser 3-5 times a day until your sputum clears. I also use P73 Wild oregano oil, 2 gelcaps 4 times a day. I have started on a liver cleansing diet, lots of raw juices and fresh vegetables and fruit according to The liver cleansing diet and raw juices can save your life by Dr. Sandra Cabot. She has a base in the USA and also Australia. All the products I use you can order on-line. The staff of Dr. Cabot are very helpful and will give you advice tailored to your needs. This is for chest infections for people with bronchiectasis/COPD. Hope this helps. PS I have not had a chest infection or a cold or flu in a year. Regards, Maddy, Nottingham, UK

Colloidal Silver - re comments by Maddy from Nottingham UK 12/7/2006 - can you please advise me the amount of c.s. maddy uses in her nebuliser for bronchiectasis. I have had bronchiectasis for 50 years, now chronic and fed up with antibiotics - maybe she can help. I do not have asthma or can you suggest any other helpline, or can Maddy recommend any special brand of s.c.

I have asthma and bronchiectasis (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). Was diagnosed 8 years ago. I was suffering from monthly (sometimes twice monthly) chest infections, and had to take antibiotics for every outbreak and becoming more and more resistant and sensitive to the drugs. I started using Colloidal Silver in my nebuliser about a year ago now and have not had a chest infection since. As soon as I feel my sputum changing (from clear to yellow) I use the colloidal silver and the infection does not develop any further. Some times I have to do it more than once, but mostly once is enough. I hope this will help anybody out there that is struggling with the same problem. Good luck!!

Thyme

My 79 year old Mother had an upper respiratory infection. She could not shake the cough. I had recently read an article that said steep 1 teaspoon of your kitchen variety thyme in a cup of hot water, as you would a teabag, and sip. She tried it and it worked. Encouraged, I told my friend who has the start of COPD about it, she tried it and is amazed also. The article stated it relaxes the bronchials. Yet another alternative.

re: COPD & Lung Cancer and virgin coconut oil -- I found almost immediate relief from thick mucous taking VCO. I started out with 1 T. with each meal, sometimes in tea or room temp juice. It thins the mucous making it easy to cough up. I also drink 2 quarts of water in addition to the VCO. The water alone did not help. My nasal passages are both open for the first time in years and breathing is much easier. VCO makes the skin lovely.

I wanted to say that if people have extremely chronic respiratory or nervous conditions, they ought to find out if they are living or working in a moldy building. Nothing cures that but getting out or fixing the problem in the house!

Earth Clinic readers have told us that their favorite home remedy for COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is the Hydrogen Peroxide Inhalation Method. Some readers experienced wonderful results in as little as two weeks. In fact, for the past 10 years, Bill Munro?s Hydrogen Peroxide Inhalation Method has been one of Earth Clinic?s most popular natural treatments for many different ailments. Other nebulizer treatments are helpful as well, such as DMSO, Colloidal Silver, and MSM.

Symptoms of COPD

You may have COPD and not know it. Over 24 million people in the U.S. have COPD, but more than HALF of those people do not know that they have this very serious problem. If you are experiencing these symptoms, get diagnosed and then take action before more damage is done to your lungs. Otherwise, COPD will continue to get worse, until you need to be attached to an oxygen tank in order to breathe at all.

Are you experiencing these symptoms?

  • Frequent coughing, with or without mucus;
  • Feeling out of breath more and more often;
  • Wheezing;
  • A tight feeling in the chest.

Bill Munro?s Hydrogen Peroxide Inhalation Method

Bill Munro developed the Hydrogen Peroxide Inhalation Method when he learned he had melanoma and prostate cancer many years ago. He wanted to get oxygen ?inside? to treat his cancers. After treating himself for a while, his PSA blood tests showed that he was clean of the cancers. Research suggests that viruses cannot survive in an oxygen-rich environment.

If you have COPD, more oxygen is just exactly what you need. Many Earth Clinic readers with COPD reported success following this method. The link will show you exactly how to use Bill?s method. Please do follow the instructions. Do not overdo on the ?more is better" theory. It isn?t. Both Bill and his wife safely inhaled hydrogen peroxide daily for at least 9 years, enjoying improved overall health. Their blood oxygen levels remained in the high 90s.

  • Normal blood oxygen levels are 95-100%.
  • Below 90% is considered hypoxemia, leading to an asthma crisis, sleep apnea, pulmonary infection, etc.
  • A blood oxygen level below 80% is a critical situation that could result in a damaged brain or heart; respiratory or cardiac arrest can occur at this level of low blood oxygen.

Ted from Bangkok?s Answers to COPD Questions

Ted, Earth Clinic?s long-time Contributing Editor, has responded to many questions about COPD over the years. Some of the topics he has addressed are: Ted?s Remedies, Questions About Ted?s Remedies and Can Condition be Reversed. Ted has a strong scientific background and spends substantial time researching natural health remedies for a wide variety of medical issues.

What is COPD?

COPD is a killer ? the third leading cause of death in the U.S. The National Institutes of Health states that, ?COPD has no cure yet, and doctors don't know how to reverse the damage to the airways and lungs. However, treatments and lifestyle changes can help you feel better, stay more active, and slow the progress of the disease."

COPD is one of the most frustrating health issues that people deal with. It?s very disabling, as reduced lung function makes it impossible to handle normal activities. To make matters worse, those afflicted with COPD may also have one or more other chronic illnesses.

Most of those with COPD have emphysema and chronic bronchitis, both included under the general term COPD. Over time, the airways narrow, making it more difficult to breathe.

  • Emphysema refers to damage to the walls between many of the air sacs in the lungs. Instead of any tiny air sacs, the person now has fewer, larger air sacs. This reduces gas exchange within the lungs. In other words, the lung?s ability to take in oxygen and remove carbon dioxide is far less than is needed for proper breathing and good health. There is not enough oxygen and too much carbon dioxide.
  • Chronic bronchitis refers to the lining of the airways being always irritated and inflamed. The lining gets thicker; thick mucus makes it hard to breath.

COPD and Viral and Bacterial Infections

The most common cause of COPD exacerbations are viruses, particularly the flu, rhinovirus or adenovirus. Mycoplasma and chlamydia are bacteria that can also be responsible for lung infections. These organisms cannot thrive in an oxygen-rich environment, such as that created by inhaling hydrogen peroxide following the suggested method.

If You Smoke, Quit!

Smoking is the leading cause of COPD. While there are other risk factors, such as pollution, second-hand smoke, family history or chemical fumes, smoking is the most important risk factor by a wide margin. Don?t be one of the people sneaking into the garage for a cigarette and then hobbling back to the oxygen tank in order to get a breath of air. If you don?t quit now, you will be forced to when you?re totally bed-bound and cannot breathe at all without the oxygen tank. Our readers have sent in a lot of remedies that have helped them to quit smoking. We hope that one of their recommendations will help you.

Continue reading below for hundreds of posts from our readers detailing what remedies worked (or didn't work) for COPD. Please let us know what remedies you are using and how your healing is progressing!
