Apple Pectin
★★★★★
Try apple pectin. One to three times daily 1/2 hour before food on empty stomach with lots of water. I did this years ago and it brought it down very well. Doing this on an ongoing basis is a lot better than statins.

Apple Pectin For Cholesterol Reduction, Green Tea For Triglycerides
My cholesterol was around 263 when my specialist freaked out about it.
I did research and read about apple pectin, which is a soluble fiber.
I took one capsule of 750 mg for four to six months on an empty stomach in the afternoons with a large glass of water.
Six months later, my cholesterol was down significantly, and my doctor was rather surprised. The only reason I didn't take more was that my stomach is delicate and I've had problems with other supplements before.
Now I'm down to 224 and my new doctor freaked out about it. I went back to apple pectin again, and we're re-testing in six months.
My triglycerides were consistently in the high 100s and I heard at a health seminar that green tea reduces them.
I started to drink 2 cups of green tea decaf most days (can't do caffeine) and the last two times my triglycerides were 84 and 85.
They have never been so low. Keep in mind that psyllium is also a soluble fiber and any powdered supplement you can buy in the stores that contain it will do the same thing. I prefer the capsules because I can't stomach the sweet flavor of the powders. Good luck, people!
Avoid Trans Fats
★★★★★
High cholesterol can be lowered by avoiding foods with trans fats in them. Trans fats tend to raise LDL (bad) cholesterol and lower HDL (good) cholesterol. They are suspected of causing many health problems, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and rigid arteries. In the ingredients list, if you see "partially hydrogenated" oils, do not eat. For more information go to www.bantransfats.com
B Vitamins
★★★★★
Re: Detoxing High Fructose Corn Syrup From Body
Cheryl, the fructose that your body doesn't burn during digestion, is converted into triglycerides and stored in fat tissue; this is why high fructose corn syrup can cause obesity.
To remove the triglycerides take lots of B vitamins. B-100 2 or 3 times daily. To further enhance energy production you can add any or all these nutrients: DMG, CoQ10, ALA. To increase thermogenesis, use caffeinated coffee or tea; along with some cardio, this should burn those stubborn fats.
Baking Soda
I cant find anywhere on this site about baking soda water bringing down high cholesterol numbers. Does anyone know about this? Does baking soda water do this? And if so whats the recipe ? I will not take prescriptions. Please help. I already had one heart attack and dont want another. Thanks so much. Phyllis

hey phyllis, I don't know about the baking soda but i've been trying to get off my cholesterol medicine, have gone from 80mg to 40 mg and hopefully get off it altogether. the biggest thing for me was a diet change. I'v stopped eating fried foods & fast food. started eating alot of fish & steamed vegies. I started taking a supplement called pantethine, you can take up to 1200mg a day, i've been taking 600mg a day. i've been getting blood work done every 3 months. i'll be going sometime next month to see if my numbers got any lower. i'll let you know, good luck.

Phyllis, I wanted to share my cholesterol story with you. My total cholesterol was well over 251. The doctor was threatening me with yet another prescription medicine that I would have to take for the rest of my life. I was determined to avoid that and get off my blood pressure medication in the process. I began to take Milk thistle for the cholesterol. In just three months, I was able to lower the total cholesterol to 189. I must mention that I did in fact change my diet. I avoided bread, sugar, potatoes; began eating more vegetables and protein. I managed to lose 15 lbs, and my blood pressure medicine as well.
I would also like to share that this site has been very helpful to me, my grandchild (egg whites and fever), and my husband avoided a 2nd heart attach by putting cayenne pepper under his tongue whenever he was feeling ill. We ended up in the hospital, but the doctor stated that the episode was only an angina, not a heart attack and no evidence of damage to the heart. Thanks earth clinic, for all the education that you have provided me.

Word of caution, it's not "just" angina. Angina is a symptom that the heart is not getting enough oxygen and is usually caused by a significantly blocked artery (usually 90% or more). Immediate medical treatment is required to relieve the blockage.
If you ever experience Angina (tightness or pain in the chest along with numbness or pain down the underside of either arm) which is most often brought about during periods of physical activity, you need to immediately go to the Emergency Room.

Denis, I reviewed Dr. Uffe Ravnskov's book on the book review page. It is a very important book full of easy to understand information. First he was demonised in I think Swedish TV, later he was reinstated in the papers because after all he was right. I think that they burned his first book on TV. Stay away from statins, please.... my father goes through life with awful pain in his feet because of statins but he won't stop and probably by now it wouldn't help anyway! Try to find a good natural doctor, someone you can go for advice at all times! I haven't found one yet but I hope one day I will! Sometimes one can feel quite lonely and confused with all the information out there! All the best....

Do not worry too much about cholesterol, it is essential to your good health, it is the bodies messenger system and a tiny fraction of which is caused by diet. Beware Statins, there has been talk for as long as I can remember about having them pulled off the market for the number of serious side effects. Statins are extremely dangerous and the longer you take them the more likely you are to have serious long term irreversible side effects. I have read that only exceptional high readings of cholesterol should be of any concern, ie almost off the charts. The cholesterol myth started in the 50s and in spite of all eveidence to the contrary was never debumked, whereas the link to heart disease, diabetes and most other modern plagues has all been firmly established in rats and mice with Sugar.
Please worry more about your blood pressure as this is a more accurate guage of your hearts health. There is a huge amount of information here on EC to help you with this. Try Co Enzyme Q10 and Vitamin C, Aloe Vera Juice, absolutely Eliminate refined Sugar and High Fructose Corn Syrup from your diet. Take 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper mixed with hot water building up to 1 whole tsp gradually, read the Cayenne Pepper section first. Swap to healthy fats, Coconut Oil being the best. Also I would take EDTA for as long as you can afford to, this will clean your arteries right out and give you some peace of mind.
Good Luck and stay away from Statins no matter what.
Cameron.
Berberine
Can anyone give me feedback on Berberine for high-cholesterol? I've been searching for a good brand, but more so, I would like to know if anyone has used this supplement and actually had their cholesterol lowered without using a Statin?
If Art Solbrig is around I would love to ask him about it. I will post one link to a very short video from one of my fave online doctors, Dr. Benjamin Bikman. He is big on Metabolic Syndrome/Insulin Resistance, and I have beaten T2 Diabetes just using Ketogenic nutrition. But with Keto, I get a high number on my Lipid tests and worry my doctor til I think he'll have a heart-attack because I won't take a statin. Berberine sounds good to me, but feedback is very welcome, and a brand name would be very helpful,
Thank you in advance, Denise
Denise E,
Although studies do show that berberine has cholesterol lowering effects and as being good for diabetics to help maintain healthier glucose levels among many other benefits, I do not consider it to be a potent anti cholesterol supplement based on my experience. If you cholesterol is significantly high, berberine may not be potent enough to get it low enough, but it wouldn't hurt to try it and it will help with lowering glucose levels.
For the purpose of lowering cholesterol, I have had good results using two level full tablespoons of soy lecithin granules each day. I use a 4 ounce glass of water and dump the granules in it and drink it down right away in one go with no mixing. Others put it into their smoothies, or yogurt.
I have no recommendation for a brand of berberine as I have used several and they were all effective. I think the divided dose would be important for optimal effect.

Hello Art, and thanks so much your reply. I'm a bit shy of Soy Lecithin, as I heard that Sunflower Lecithin is the best, but also, I can't remember what it was that worried me about the Soy. I don't eat anything, or drink Soy so again, a bit shy of that. It may just have been something I read. I hope no one faints, but I do want to say that I believe, or am at least pretty secure with the info on high cholesterol not being dangerous, and that it's the Trigs divided by HDL that is the number to watch, mine is 3.0 right now, latest Lipids, but the total cholesterol is 511.
I want to bring that number down and my trigs were also lower in past tests and I was running at 300 plus with TC. I'm a bit afraid a doctor will dump me from his patient list if I don't take something to lower my C. I'm going to also reply to the Melatonin thread as I don't want to change the subject of this thread, but I have bad insomnia some nights, especially if I don't get any exercise during the day.
Thank you again, Denise!!
Denise,
Since you are considering using melatonin, the following meta analysis should interest you regarding triglycerides :
Here is a relevant quote :
' A total of 8 RCTs were eligible. Meta-analysis suggested a significant association between melatonin supplementation and a reduction in triglycerides (WMD: −31.54 mg/dL, 95% CI: −50.71, −12.38, p = 0.001), and total cholesterol levels (WMD: −18.48 mg/dL, 95% CI: −35.33, −1.63, p = 0.032), while no significant effect on LDL-C (WMD: −2.37 mg/dL, 95% CI: −11.61, −6.86, p = 0.615) and HDL-C (WMD: 1.28 mg/dL, 95% CI: −0.66, 3.23, p = 0.197) was found. In sub-group analysis, a significant decrease in triglycerides was found at doses ≥8 mg/d and when trials last ≥8 weeks. In addition, a significant decrease of total cholesterol was found at doses ≥8 mg/d and when total cholesterol baseline levels were ≥200 mg/dL. '
Art
Denise,
If soy lecithin granules is not to your liking for lowering cholesterol, another option is Fenugreek.

Cholesterol is reduced with the bergamot juice, international studies attest to its effectiveness. The Calabria, in Italy, is the only manufacturer in the world.
The bergamot juice should be natural, no preservatives and sulfites. The bergamot juice contains natural statins.

A few years ago I paid $10 for a quick cholesterol screening at a local grocery store. I didn't know what my level was, I don't think it was high in the first place, but the results were amazing. I had been taking a tablespoon of BSM for a couple of months. I am not an athletic person by any stretch of the imagination, and I don't exercise with any honorable amount of regularity. And when I returned an hour later for the results, the guy shook his head in amazement because he said my cholesterol revealed what would be normal for someone who was involved in heavy athletic activity! (My unimpressive physique said otherwise, as he knew.) I had not been taking any other supplementation, so it is my unwaivering belief that the BSM had such an impact on my blood system that it revolutionized it! I got away from it for a while, but desire to see an improvement in my complexion, AND see if I can vacate my noggin' of ensuing gray hairs!
Book Reviews
Book Review: Fat and Cholesterol are Good for you - Dr. Uffe Ravnskov
I first read "The Great Cholesterol Con" by Dr. Kendrik but I wasn't too impressed with his joking tone (I suppose many people will love it but for me this subject is too important to lose too much time with jokes!). And I found the message a bit confusing. After researching a bit further I found "Fat and Cholesterol are good for you" and the title is so controversial that I had to read it. My interest in cholesterol and fats came from the fact that a while ago I found coconut oil in a health shop and thought that I should only use it on my skin as I believed that saturated fats were very bad for your health. Then Bill from the Philippines suggested I start cooking with it but I needed to read more about the subject before adding it to our daily menu. Cholesterol is a subject I knew nothing about although I know that mine is on the high side. The only thing you usually hear about it is that it is something bad which will shorten your life, something to be afraid of. Well, in the meanwhile I know that this is not true especially for me as a woman.
I find it a pity that this book is badly edited. Even if the author had to publish it on a small budget maybe a friend could have had a look through... but the message is there! At times all the studies were a bit much for me but I can't say that they are not interesting. What I found very weird, coming from a country considered Mediterranean was the Mediterranean diet used in one of the studies which included margarine made with rapeseed oil while everybody knows that in Mediterranean countries people cook mostly with olive oil. And also the fact that people were encouraged to eat poultry instead of pork. People in Mediterranean countries do eat quite a bit of pork, beef and lam.... this goes to show that these studies are often based on errors and therefore their conclusions can't be taken seriously!
I can't agree with the author when he says that many people realize that statins are toxic. I know quite a few elderly people on statins or similar drugs who show all the symptoms of their side effects but who have no idea of what is going on. Very sad that our health is used for financial gain and not many doctors seem to care about what happens to us. Weather we live a miserable life or die it doesn't matter, we are just a statistic and a way to get rich even quicker!
This book demystifies a lot of concepts which exist in our society about the dangers (or not) of cholesterol and the author, having done a thorough research, presents his point of view in a scientific way. He also explains thoroughly how studies are misinterpreted in order to fit the directors' goals and how badly studies often are set up. He is also very clear about the financial links between the directors' and the pharmaceutical industry who as a rule finance the whole thing anyway.
Too bad that people are still being misled but then aren't we being misled on a lot of important subjects anyway? I want to read more about the use of coconut oil and the benefits for one's health but for the time being I am convinced that we have made the right choice and I don't think that I will let any doctor lower my cholesterol! After all women with higher cholesterol seem to be the ones who live the longest! But... wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to go to your doctor and be able to trust him with your wellbeing instead of having to dig around and try to find the truth yourself?

If you'd search "statin-induced neuropathy" on the web and you'll be amazed at how many people are suffering from this statin drug. I am one of the victims by this big Pharma scam! Most of us suffer debilitating pains in our lower bodies plus other symtoms due to the damage caused by statins on our peripherol nurvous systems. This disease can hit some patients even after they stopped their statins for four years! Sadly, it is not reversable and so far, there is no cure! A former NASA medical doctor, spoke from his own experience, said:"Don't waste your time and money, just take as much CoQ10 as you can afford!".
So beware! Those who are being advised to take statins by your doctors should pay close attention to your body reactions. The best thing is to evaluate yourself if it is reallly benefitial to you. Is cloresterol as bad as they claim? Search the web and you'll find many infos that might shock you! It was too late for me! Cholesterol has been distorted by the big Pharma for they can benefit big time in it - worldwide sales of statins is over $160 billion annually. But to those who suffer this so called side effects from the statins everyday, it is a killing drug! Many healthy people became sick and a few died from this drug! I don't know how much incentive my doctor who prescribed me the statins had received, but I wish him and those who push the statins to burn in hell!
PS - I wonder if EC would open a new link on this topic? I am sure I am not the only victim of statins over here! Ironically, if I didn't suffer from this thing, I would'nt be connected to this wonderful website! Thank you, EC!
EC: Thanks for the suggestion. Your reply has been cross-posted to the newly created page: https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/statin-induced-neuropathy.html

Francisca: On the subject of the cholesterol scare/scam, after decades of misdirection, lies and propaganda there have now been many scientific studies that show that it is only the level of oxidized cholesterol in the blood that is related to cardiovas diseases.
The simplest fact to take in is that it was also very well known for decades that if you look at a statistical bell curve of cholesterol levels in the population, there are just as many heart attacks and CVD in people on the left of the median as those whose cholesterol puts them on the right of that median!
There is a new book out 2008, rather small at 78 pages, which documents the dangerous oxidative damage cholesterol undergoes when it comes in contact with chlorine in the blood from chlorinated water either drunk or showered in and thus absorbed via the lungs.
The chlorine gas is in no way similar in its toxic effects to the normally present harmless reduced chloride ion Cl-, ubiquitous throughout the body.

A coworker of mine introduced me to Nutritionfacts.org. There is an article called Four Nuts Once a Month by Dr. Greger. I started eating 1 Brazil nut every day (even though the article said you would get the same results eating 4 nuts a month).
My results are as follows: I went from 224 down to 204 down to 136. I get mine already shelled at Trader Joes. They will always be a daily staple of mine. Brazil nuts are high in selenium.
