How to Cure Candida

Apple Cider Vinegar
Posted by Katie (Hillsdale, Mi) on 12/12/2011

Hi, My name is Katie and I recently heard about apple cider vinegar and the the benefits for your health. I began drinking this and not only did I get terrible acid reflux but I also had a terrible kidney infection along with a UTI. I'm not sure if this was the cause but my kidneys hurt very bad and still do too often to be normal. I am battling with what I just found out as a very bad case of Candida Yeast as well as low thyroid and my adrenal glands are so flat they basically aren't working. I read that yeast can make your acid and alkaline rise in your body. Should I stay away from this? Thank you, God bless, Katie.

I have the same problem with lemon juice. I wonder if the UTI is a negative reaction or a positive die-off reaction.

Better But With Side Effects

I have had candida symptoms for almost 3 years. I got several rounds of prescriptions for fluconozole 100 mg. Everytime the symptoms disappeared within 3 days but returned after 3 or 4 months. I tried taking ACV everyday (2 tbsp diluted in a glass of water) for a while. It made me feel better but not completely cured. In the last 3 weeks I have had severe depression for the first time in my life and an overall "depleted" feeling. I finally decided that it might be linked to the candida. I had 20 mule borax in the house and decided to start taking it as prescribed by Ted: 1/8 tsp in a liter of water throughout the day, everyday for 5 days.

I am on day 5. I started feeling better after day 3. Now on day 5, I woke up with severe flu like symptoms, feverish, headache, extreme weakness, fever blisters, sinus congestion, and a crawling sensation under my skin. I am thinking that either I caught a bug or these are "candida die off" symptoms, which I never experienced with fluconozole. I will stop the borax cure for 2 days as prescribed by Ted and then resume for 5 days. I will post again to share the results.

Hi Pooped.... Have you tried enzymes and/or probiotics? I spoke with my local natural foods store proprietor and that's what was recommended for me. Also, my chiropractor performed a muscle test & recommended a wafer that has done wonders as the yeast overgrowth I was experiencing affected my skin. I have been a bit fatigued, dreading everything I needed to do/not really WANTING to do much.... The itchy, dry skin in my outer ears - accompanied by occasional draining - is all better; I've been plagued for months and months. I feel a bit more energized..... I've been ingesting the wafers for about a month along with a calcium lactate whole food suplement & a couple of others. I don't find the supps expensive at all and wonder if they may act a little faster than the borax.... Just a thought! I hope you resolve this soon - we all deserve to feel well~Linda

Hi Bill, I sometimes mix a drop of the 2% Lugols in some leftover soup broth (that has EVCO or butter in it). I heard it was good to mix it with a little saturated fat for weight loss. I've taken it a few times and not long after felt a little: dizzy, anxious, and a little trouble swallowing. This all subsided in 5-10 minutes. It happened each of the three times when taking only 1 drop a day for a few days. I am subclinical hypothyroid and don't take any prescriptions. This doesn't seem to be an allergy, would this just be a herx effect? I plan to just continue and hope the symptoms eventually stay away unless anyone has any other recommendations. Thank you!

Hi Elly... Since you are hypothyroid then your body needs iodine. When you initially start taking lugols iodine, you should:

* First check for an allergy reaction against iodine by putting a few drops in the crook of your arm and leave it for one or two hours. If their is irritation, redness and itchyness then you might be allergic.

* Next, take iodine in small doses and test for stomach sensitivities.

* I've also found that many people who try using iodine automatically have difficulty swallowing the iodine in water or they wretch. This seems to be a psychosomatic reaction that is caused by an in-built fear and conviction that iodine is truly poisonous. If you have no allergy reaction and no stomach sensitivities then the problem will most likely be iodophobia. I am afraid that I can suggest nothing for this problem. But a good book to read, whose title should convince most is one by Dr David Brownstein called Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can't Live Without It.

* What people also forget is that the symptoms of an allergy reaction are very similar to a sudden Herx or a sudden die-off reaction when you take oral iodine. But this is up to the user to decide. In the 1920s they autopsied many cadavers and found a 3% occurrence of candida. In the 1960s a similar experiment showed a candida occurence of 30% to 40%. Today, the occurrence of candida in western populations, according to research, is more likely to be 90%. So weird symptoms like nausea, pains, flu-like symptoms and feeling awful in general could be due to a candida problem and not necessarily due to an allergy reaction.

In my opinion blood tests are not a good way of measuring thryroid levels. The best way, since the thyroid controls body temperature, is to use a basal thermometer and when you first wake up in bed to put it in your arm pit for 15 mins or so. A normal thyroid will show a temperature of 97.8 to 98.6 degrees F. Body temperatures from 97.6 to 98.0 degrees Fahrenheit are considered evidence of possible hypothyroidism or low thyroid and temperatures less than 97.6 degrees can be even more indicative of hypothyroidism. See this article.

The final point is that iodine is one of the most useful elements for our bodies on this planet. Magnesium is another one. Iodine cures thyroid problems, helps to improve and protect the eyes, helps remove plaque from the heart arteries, prevents and removes breast, prostate and uterine cysts, increases energy, improves all hormone receptors(not just for the thyroid) thus improving the body's metabolic rate, improves the skin, used in every single mucus gland in our bodies as first line of defence against pathogens, essential for proper mental development, kills 90%-95% of all known pathogens, can help to cure obesity problems, can help to completely cure type 2 diabetes, beneficial against glaucoma and catarract conditions, useful as a preventative and cure against cancer(See the Max Gerson Therapy and Ted's Therapy for cancer), helps to cure allergies(Read this speech by Max Gerson) and is a wonderful anti-histamine that is safe to take. But I'm afraid that you must take much larger dosages than just one drop of lugols iodine a day to achieve any of these beneficial effects because the whole body's need for iodine is so great.

The second point I must make is that taking one drop or small amounts of iodine for problems like hypothyroid will not work because the rest of the body's need for iodine is 100 times more than the RDA that is needed for the thyroid. This means that whatever dosage of oral iodine you take -- the body will grab 100 times more iodine than the thyroid. So whatever dosage of lugols you are taking now must also therefore satisfy the whole body's need for iodine. The RDA for just thyroid iodine maintenance per day is defined as approx 125 MICROgrams. So just multiply that by 100 and you get 12.5 MILLIgrams -- which is equivalent to 2 drops of lugols 5% iodine (or equivalent to approx 4 drops 2% lugols iodine) -- and that's only for just thyroid and body iodine maintenance!!

If you have sensitivities or problems with lugols iodine, then perhaps try Nascent Iodine. This form doesn't have much taste and is a form which contains the most triiodide or I3 ions which is the most recognised, absorbable and bioavailable form of iodine for the body. Lugols Iodine also contains I3 but Nascent Iodine(also known as Atomidine) contains far more because it has been made using a special electrical process(to create more ionic I3 ). You should also be able to take much larger dosages of Nascent Iodine without problems.

Thank you Bill for your fast and detailed answer! Skin test fine and stomach no problems. It seems to be a case of iodophobia (unconscious brainwashing from slanted websites). Morning or even during the day I don't measure higher than 96.5 degrees, unless I have a fever but then it only goes up a few degrees. So I can see I need iodine. The info you gave here has alleviated a lot of my fears and I have a much better understanding of iodine now. And thank you for the info on Nascent Iodine, though more expensive I will consider it if need be. Wish everyone here a Happy Thanksgiving and thank you again Bill!

Hi Bill.. Scrolling through this website and trying to find the info myself, would the proper amounts of your "dream mixture" be 1/8 tsp borax, 10 drops 80% magnesium chloride and 2 drops 5% Lugols iodine in a glass of water most days of the week? Anything else we can add to this "super drink".. Like maybe 5-10 drops 3% H2O2 and a pinch of tannic acid (or green tea) and a pinch of EDTA or is this over the top. BTW your posts on this are awesome!!!!!

Hey Betty & Bill; why not throw in some sodium thiosulfate into that mix? Actually not sure if H2O2 and ST go together tho? Me thinks if you have the iodine you don't need the H2O2 since they're both oxidizers. Just don't add vit C to this mix cuz that's an antioxidant. Please Bill correct me if I'm wrong. Adieu!

Bill, in point 12 of your Candida diet you mention drinking plenty water at meal times to aid digestion. My understanding, from nutritionists, is that drinking liquids during meals dilutes the digestive enzymes and thus comprimises the digestive process. That one should rather not drink quality liquids for the period of 30 mins before, during and up to 30 mins after, a meal.

Can you maybe give me details of your theory?

Otherwise great info, thanks.

This website is very engaging and it appears to be as comprehensive and as succinct a source of holistic information that I have come across. By now, I'm well acquainted with the condition of candida over growth but one thing that still escapes my comprehension is how the rash can propagate on the skin...Now, I understand that if one has a yeast infection say, in the vagina or elsewhere, they necessarily have a larger problem with their gut flora. Sure but once a rash has been handled and long gone, why does it crop up again, even if so in lesser strength. Naturally, this can be seen a "cleansing" or healing sign but how is it that the yeast get to the skin in the first place? I get that the skin is also a purging organ but wouldn't the dead yeast be inert once they are sweated out? I get a periodic under arm rash and after a two years of keeping candida "under control, " I still can not tell if these rashes are evidence of progress, regression or both...Another question would be regarding candida in the blood. Evidently, this is a very serious condition yet how else would the yeast arrive at the armpit region, for instance, if it originally existed in the intestines? By that notion, shouldn't a skin rash be evidence of a serious condition?

I'm really concerned about this business of drinking water with my meals. I have not done that for some years now because I had heard it got in the way of digesting food properly. Now I ran across Bill's post and want to get all the input I can.

Hoping to hear from anyone who drinks liquids/water with their meals, Denise

As Kefir is considered a probiotic I think that it can be taken if you have candida, but only the homemade version not the bought one. Also it is better to start out with a small amount first and build up. Here are some sites to have a look at including ECs candida page.

There are probiotics that eat and live on fuguses like candida and yeast. Threelac is one. There maybe others. This stuff costs about a dollar a packet. This is expensive if you use much.

I have found that a probiotic culture can be grown on a medium of food grade brewers yeast and water. Brewers yeast is dead yeast cells that are high in protein and several vitamins and mineral. I have made yogart and buttermilk in the past and growing these cultures is very similar. The result is a sour thin liquid that tastes a little like buttermilk.

currently I use 2 cups of brewers yeast flakes in a gallon of water. To this I add a packet of the probiotics I want to grow. This will create a sour culture in 1 to 3 days. I then refrigerate the jug and drink as needed. In winter I have been culturing the liquid in an oven with the light on. Oven needs to be less than about 110 degrees farenheit.

I don't believe that this is a total cure for systemic candida infection but it is a start and should eliminate candida from the intestinal tract. When first starting this you need to be aware of the Herztheimer effect. Now I drink a cup every few days. I know I am not drinking enough if it causes my stomach to rumble within an hour or 2 of drinking. It does cause my eurin to be more yellow.

Brewers yeast is not delicious, and culturing makes it more sour. It is a good source of protein and nutrients. I get the flakes for about $16 a pound. That is at least 10 cups so I don't think of it as expensive because it is a food that enables me to eat grains and sugar that would not be allowed on a candida restricted diet.

I have been drinking this stuff for several years.

I would say that one should probably neither use BSM nor honey as they are both mostly sugar but I was interested in knowing why he advises BSM because he know an awful lot about Candida and cured his own. Ive tried this ACV -two tablespoons with 1/2 teaspoon of Baking Soda and 8 ozs of water, stir it together in a glass and drink it, Im not sure if this is what Ted tried, I couldnt quite follow his instructions so hopefully I'll see a message from him on this, Im pretty sure I have a Candida allergy or wheat allergy...

Thinking that I might suffer from Sjogren's I decided to pay a visit to my husband's GP (I don't have one, I rarely go to mainstream doctors! ). This is a doctor in Switzerland, where medicine is supposed to be good and I had been there once, months ago. Because I thought that I might actually just suffer from Candida I took my Cure Candida Through Diet book with me to help him along. Of course he wasn't interested in anything to do with Candida, whether I could suffer from it or not was of no consequence to him. But well, I have a lot of difficulty sleeping with my dry eyes and mouth.... But that is my problem, he must have thought... His answer, when I showed him the book was that anybody can write everything which doesn't mean that they are right! Then I went on to tell him about my other complaints, white spots on the skin, lower back pain, warts.... A bit bored he asked me which complaints I wanted him to treat, meaning I shouldn't come with so many thing but choose a couple and leave it at that. Amazing... Isn't the complete picture what should give a doctor an idea of what one is suffering from? In the end I had a blood test and he is going to see whether I really have Sjogren's. For the rest he asked no questions, showed no interest only told me that having Sjogren's, although not a pleasant illness it is not really something to worry about! So I came home, feeling abandoned, with no one to turn too with my symptoms except this site, as usual, and my books!

If you think that I was unlucky with my choice of doctor think again, they just don't care and the choice is very limited here although through my health insurance I have access to two countries, France and Switzerland. But maybe I am lucky, I have just read the book "Breaking through the untouchable diseases" by Geral Green, which I will review here in due course, phoned Gerald last Sunday, had a great conversation with him and am starting the anti-Candida diet soon and he will ship me his medication. So fingers crossed I will be feeling a lot better soon (sorry Bill, you told me to do the diet such a long time ago.....)!

Drs... especially western doctors are engineers of the body. A wonderful science to be respected in its own right however as engineers many lack interpersonal skills. I think many of us have had similar experiences to yours, .. For me walking out of a Dr's office muttering under my breath, "what an A-hole! " was more than a couple times. It's important to find a doctor that doesn't make you feel helpless about your condition. So good that you are moving on. Western, mainstream medicine mainly views a diagnoses of systemic candidiasis as having no scientific basis, and most of the recommended treatments for it a waste of time and money. Some feel that it is mostly psychological in that it satisfies a need to blame our maladies on an external cause.

For this type of condition you would most likely do better by seeing an traditional chinese medicine practitioner or Ayurvedic Dr. who is more in tune with balancing the body. Finding a good one is however tricky and usually trial and error... even in big cities like New York I found this to be a challenge...

Trying to understand a dr's position however is important... I can imagine that they after spending so many years studying, having their patients telling them what internet's diagnosis is would be annoying at times... However a good Dr.. would be open to all views... I've a few times mentioned certain herbs to Dr's who had no idea what they were... So I do believe it is a two way communication. Use them, respect their info.. but don't take it as the final word because that will always change with time.

Francisca, sorry to hear about your experience but I am afraid it was to be expected. Our western Doctors only know which medication to give for which symptom.

When my son was a year old and was very constipated all I was told was to give him a stool softener (at the Emergency Department). No one told me about probiotics or digestive enzymes or anything else. The health food shop told me about those. Since then I have read everything I could find.

Maybe a Naturopath could help you but I sincerely think that a green juice detox would help you. Fresh lemon juice every day (1/2 glass). Stick with the chlorella and sprirulina and chlorophyl. Take colloidal minerals.

The chlorophyl in the green juices will cleanse the blood from toxins. The chlorella and spirulina will also cleanse the kidneys and liver amongst many other things.

If you don't have faith in the above then colloidal silver may be your savior.

It has been used against warts and yeast infections. It is antibacterial and anti fungal (and can treat over 650 diseases)

Thanks Rob and Debbie. Unfortunately Rob, here in France as a rule you only find homeopathic doctors. And yes, it must be very annoying when you spent years studying something to have some little lady come in with her own ideas, books, etc but that is life.....

Debbie, I am sticking with the Clorophyl, Chlorella and Spirulina. Coloidal Silver I am not sure about. I bought a bottle once but read so many bad things about it that I didn't dare to take it again. It seems one risks getting a funny color.... No idea what to believe anymore! Anyway, I bought the copper which I think you suggested a little while ago but that also gave me a bad taste in the mouth. And I have read that Alzheimer's might be connected with too much copper and zink in the brain. Aren't you afraid of that? So far no changes in my hair color with the Chlorella, Spirulina powder. I stopped with the copper for the moment!

you're right Francisca, better to risk annoying the Dr. when it comes to our health... I recall when I was young, a hospital Dr. caring for my brother hanging up on my mother over the phone. (she was a very polite woman) The Dr didn't want to admit they were failing him and she persisted on having him moved to a better hospital. She eventually prevailed, & as soon as he was moved the new hospital alarmed at his condition, they operated immediately (when the previous hospital was attempting rehab on him!! )... It was an infection that was close to being systemic.... It was a close call but it was uphill from there. It was a mother's intuition and risk of being a pain that absolutely saved his life.

Rob, I absolutely recognize the position your mother was in. I had the same with some issues with my daughters. Difficult to have the doctors do something but me as a mother I fought to get them well. Now they are wonderful, beautiful, young women! And with my health as well, it took me many years of monthly migranes to find out by myself that I had hormonal headaches and to find a pill that cured them (all by myself! ). Or to cure the ostheoarthritis in my knee (ok, a natural doctor did it in the end but I had to look for the answers myself, now at 54 I haven't had any pain at all for 6 years).

Do you know what made me laugh the most during my visit to the doctor in Switzerland? When he told me that there is no way of moisturizing the tissues from within. He told me to just put some cream on my skin and that Hyaluronic Acid would do nothing to moisturize it or to minimize my dry eyes and throat. Sorry but I find it very difficult to respect them! Of course they can do some things natural medicine can't do, but they also do a lot of harm! I have just finished reading Gerald Green's book (which I would recommend to anyone and no, I don't have any connection with him other than talking with him on a phone a week ago) and there you can see that even life threatening illnesses can be cured by natural methods, maybe even only with natural methods because mainstream medicine has no clue of what to do with them!

Better But With Side Effects

Thank you earthclinic for the wonderful website! On here I've found the cure for so many health problems from sore throat to eczema. I am now writing because I've started using VCO three weeks ago and I am loving it. The reason why I wanted to try it is because I think I have mouth candida. For the first two weeks I felt a huge difference in my mouth. It felt cleaner, fresher and that horrible white coat completely disappear!!

A few days ago I started to have an unpleasant taste in my mouth. I can't be sure if it is the metalic taste that some people describe but I can assure you that it is not nice. My tongue is not as pink as it was when I started taking VCO but not as bad as before I started taking it. My question is: Could the bad taste in my mouth be a symptom of candida die off or is it just that the oil worked in the the first two weeks and is not working anymore? Thanks very much

Hi Sandra, California, I also started taking a bit of coconut oil again a few days ago and my tongue is white (while it nowadays is quite clean) and I have this bad taste in the mouth, like I am always thirsty. Although, as I had started to take Chlorella and Spirulina at the same time I am not sure which one is causing this! I don't know whether it is the die off effect as I think that I suffer from Candida or whether my liver got overloaded because this is the result when you take or eat something that doesn't agree with your liver! No idea what to do now.... yesterday I didn't take the clorella spirulina powder or the coconut oil but nothing changed.

Francisca, a few random thoughts here ... Candida is known to accumulate in tissue that contains heavy metal deposits as the heavy metals in some manner seem to protect the Candida. Chlorella is well known to help the body excrete heavy metals by any channel available. I suspect your ingestion of the chlorella started to remove the heavy metals which accounts for the bad taste. With this start to the heavy metal removal, the Candida felt somewhat threatened and in its movement, was exposed (white tongue).

Hi Amanda, The coconut oil was doing a great job of detoxing you, thus why you saw the white tongue and had the bad taste in your mouth. Since coconut oil is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory you were actually seeing its benefits. If you don't like its effects, you may want to find another way of detoxing since this was an indication that you have a level of toxicity in your body. Hope this info helps, Lisa

Everyone says 1/2 glass of water. Are you talking about an 8 oz. Glass?
