Oil Pulling

About two weeks ago I was taking my inhaler about twice a day (two puffs total since I don't like using the inhaler in the first place). Then I started Oil-Pulling. You can draw your own conclusions. But all I can say is that the very next day I stopped having to use my inhaler. I didn't experience an immediate throwing-up of mucus. But what I did experience is a gradual coughing-up of mucus all throughout the day. Another thing that I've experienced at least twice is what happens if my chest becomes tight. Usually when my chest tightens it'll stay that way and gradually get worse until I take my inhaler.

What I'm seeing is that when my chest tightens , I'll go through maybe a three hour period where I'll slowly begin to cough-up mucus until my chest is clear again. I have NEVER experienced my chest clearing-up all by itself after it has tightened. I've ALWAYS had to take medicine in order to get relief. During that time, my nose was stuffed a lot of the time. Since I've been OP-ing, it hasn't been. I can only conclude that it must due to the Oil-Pulling.

Coughs, Acid Reflux and Asthma

Someone on here asked about cough and reflux. My son had a chronic cough and was treated for asthma. He was in the worst category for asthma. He never had a wheeze. He just had a chronic cough. When he was finally diagnosed with reflux, he had developed Barrett's Oesophagous, a pre cancerous condition. Reflux causes asthma. The meds for asthma cause reflux. You see his problem. He had a laproscopic fundoplication operation which completely stopped reflux. He hasn't had asthma at all since. If you are coughing it could mean your reflux isn't under control. Chronic reflux isn't safe.

Coffee

i infrequently get asthma attacks usually cold weather or allergens set it off- sometimes stress or pet hair. I forgot my inhaler and i got a very scary attack on a warm day in april that was full of pollen. I was in a van travelling to work and couldn't catch my breath for quite awhile- when i arrived i had two cups of black coffee (i usually put milk or soy milk in my coffee) and i think it helped. However in the future i will try mullein tea or another type of herbal remedyas i dislike relying on the albuterol.

Dietary Changes

My 2 yr old has asthma and frequently has bronchitis. Stopping dairy in his diet is the only thing that has worked for us. We tried all of the medicines the doctors would give it would only make him better for a short while and sick more frequently.

Lemon

This was told to me by a Medicine Man from the Hopi tribe, Take a lemon and slice it into quarters, inhale the smell of the lemon a couple of times, then if you can stand it eat some of the lemon, rind and all, (it's not bad). Then drink a glass of water. Something in lemons and the rind greatly reduces symptoms of asthma.

Cold Shower Therapy
Posted by Tim (NSW Kitchener, Australia)
★★★★★

I decided to finish every normal 'hot shower' with a blast of totally cold water, after reading a book by an old healer by the name of Jethro Kloss. Anyway, I am a bad asthmatic, and used to get sick around 6 times per year. When I got sick it really affected my chest, with huge amounts of mucous, and real bad asthma.

Now I rarely get sick (it boosts the immune system as well as circulation), and if I do it's usually just a mildly sore throat. I wish I could better explain the massive difference this has made. Even if you feel sickness coming on, a cold shower will often stop it in its tracks.

Green Tea

i drink green tea for my asthma. i found this out by accident. a friend of mine gave me some spaghetti sauce and i had a reaction to it. my throat started to close up pn me and i was already having trouble breathing from my asthma and i didnt have my inhaler prescription filled. well i had some green tea made up that i was trying for the first time because everyone was saying green tea is good for you so i thought i'd try it. well i drank the tea and went into the other room to sit and try to breath and relax. i was in there a little while when i realized i was breathing well better than i had before i ate the spaghetti sauce so i was a science major at the time in college so i thought i'll just experiment and see if this is real so i went back out and ate some more spaghetti sauce. immediately my throat started to close up on me i drank some more tea and in a very short time i could breathe and my throat no longer closed up on me. ive been drinking the green tea for my asthma ever since. it works faster than provental for me and i very rarely ever use an inhaler. my doctor asked me what i was using to treat my asthma as i hadn't gotten prevental in a year and i told him green tea. you can imagine the reaction i got! LOL. well he said maybe all the water youve been drinking cut it for you. lol. i drink it every day for my asthma, especially if i'm having a hard time breathing. it won't cure your asthma but it will help.

Turmeric

Yes, I can attest that turmeric does help a lot with asthma. I have had this condition for 5 years now, and I always returned to this yellow powder for relief when I needed it. Sometimes it works very well, like almost as effective as medicine, other times its effect is lower.

Me personally, I usually take one teaspoon of turmeric powder, mixed with water + add a pinch of black pepper for better absorption. It helps, it really does. But I never used it for a long time treatment cause, honestly, it tastes horrible. But it's natural and has possibly no side effects. I would recommend reading more about it for those who want to try it, it's not supposed to be over-used, just be informed.

Nebulizing liquid Glutathione that you get from a compounding pharmacy (need a prescription) has stopped asthma in a few people I know.

Iodine
Posted by Rob (Kentucky) on 01/12/2025

@ Madelyn

I would stick with Lugol's 2% as opposed to a tablet, that way you can increase and decrease the dosage as needed.

As far as the arsenious acid:

Toxicity

Arsenious acid is highly toxic and has complex behavior. It is a well-known poison that can disrupt the function of proteins and enzymes, leading to cellular toxicity and dysfunction.

Uses

Arsenious acid is used to treat hematological malignancies, but its use in solid tumors is limited due to its toxicity.

There are safer alternatives out there without the toxicity rating.

Examples:

A good book to read is “A Treatise of the Asthma by Sir John Floyer, 1698”. He is the Godfather of Asthma.

Floyer's favourite prescription for Asthma being “Oxymel of Squills”. How does it taste… like crap.

Lobelia tincture – I like Dr. Christpher brand. Used since the 17th Century in medicine. Does have some side effects but really opens up the lungs.

Mullein tincture – I make my own Mullein Tincture for my clients so your choice here, completely safe for anyone to take, very young to elderly. Taste like lettuce to me.

I would also incorporate nebulizing Colloidal Silver 10ppm with 1 drop Lugol's into his treatment.

A child was diagnosed aged two with cystic fibrosis, started nebulizing CS at the suggestion of a family friend and.. well read the outcome here. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2443992

Magnesium

I agree with Joyce, Magnesium IS important for asthma. Capsules are almost worthless. Try powdered or one of the other powdered combos. You need a lot more than 250mg. For me, during a flare (airborne allergen, dust, smoke or infection induced) Extra mag, especially the spray oil on my chest plus internal, helps relax airways. I also make apple cider vinegar, sea salt and honey in hot water and sip that.

Good luck...it is horrible to suck air when flaring...especially here at almost 8000 feet!

Bathini Mrugasira Fish Medicine

Bathini Mrugasira Fish Medicine for Asthma:

Let me start with the story.

160 years ago a Hindu Saint gave an Herbal Medicine Formula to Philanthropist in the State of Andhra Pradesh, India, with the promise that he can administer the medicine to others only at free of cost.

Since, then the Bathini Goud Family(the original philanthropist) administer the Bathini Mrugasira Fish medicine to the people of India and all over the world for free for nearly 160 years from the year 1845.

The uniqueness of this medicine is the herbal paste is kept in the mouth of the baby Murrel Fish and given to the patient. The patient has to swallow the whole medicine along with live tiny Fish.

Bathini Fish Medicine is served and administered on a specific day called "Mrigishira Karthi", which is fixed each year by astrologers and normally coincides with the arrival of monsoon rains, the first or second week of June. Bathini Fish Medicine is given on Mrigishira Karti Nakshatra. Three doses of the extra medicine is also provided to patients, which is to be taken on three successive kartis: Arudra Karthi, Punnavasu Karthi and Pushymi Karti, these days being spaced each fifteen days, making a total of 45 days. After taking Bathini Fish Medicine the patient has to be under strict diet control for 45 days.

Indian herbal medicines (siddha, ayurvedha) is more potent on a particular date based on the planets, moons and stars. It is because of the Planets and stars centrepetal force, gravitiy that resonates the energies of the herb on that particular date providing maximum therapeutic value, which modern science has never even thought of.

This Fish Medicine camp is conducted only once a year. 24 hours non stop to serve nearly 50000 people. People from 6 months to 80 years are benefited from this medicine.

Now the Bathini family effort is registered as a Non-Profit Organization and providing the service.

The medicine and administration is totally free. You just have to buy the Fish, which is Rs. 10 (ten indian rupees) that is only 16 cents.

The Fish is provided by the Fisheries department of that State Andhra.

(Many of the Industries are run by the state/provincial govenments in India)

We used to say in India, only because of good people it is raining ( as rain is more important for drinking water and agriculture).

Now, I know one of the reason why it is raining in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Good Health.

Buteyko Breathing Method
Posted by Marina (Portadown, County Armagh) on 04/27/2013

Asthma - I have had wonderful results with the Buteyko Method which helped me manage my asthma especially the wheezing and constricted breathing which kept me awake at night. It worked within 2 or 3 days although I do recommend practising it for at least a month and on and off till the inflamation subsides. I now manage to exercise and can have a good bellylaugh again. It is believed that a low % of CO2 in the lungs - less than 6% - has a detrimental effect on the dilation of the bronchioli and the presence of inflammation increases mucus which further inhibits breathing. I followed and I recommend being pretty diligent for the first 5 days of the exercises it is worth it. Just google/youtube Buteyko and good luck!

I also faithfully drank a litre of tea made from liquorice root (adrenal stress), rose-hip (helps with lung tissue inflammation) and ginseng (beneficial for respiritory problems) for about 6 months. I found it to be very energising.

Hydrogen Peroxide

With great reluctance, I have little choice but to discontinue day & night nebulizer treatments. This choice has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the combination, but with my extremely long days and the need to choose another option that requires less time than a 20-25 minutes session twice a day.

This method has shown me not just improvement with clearing the lungs, but additional energy within a short while after completion. I would recommend this to all.

I had for months this sensation of not being able to get a full breath or yawn, etc. I read somewhere that a deficiency in magnesium can cause this sensation. Sure enough this was the case with me. I started taking Magnesium and all of these symptoms went away. I went to Dr. after Dr. and test after test---all I needed was magnesium. I sure wish I could get the word out to more people with this problem that could get help/relief. Hope this helps!

Yamoa Powder

Yamoa Powder For Asthma

I notice this remedy is not anywhere on this site, and certainly not under Asthma or Hay Fever/allergies.

It was introduced into Britain in the mid-1990's by a Ghanaian immigrant, a Mr. Yamoa, and supposedly is used there quite widely. Britain, likely due to its huge congestion (61 million in a tiny island) has a large percentage of people with asthma or allergies/respiratory ailments. The actual plant extract powder comes from the bark of a species of tree in Ghana. It is sold in capsule form in health stores. Also, there is no need to take it for life prophylacticly. It balances the immune system so that the asthma attacks stop (or the allergies/hay fevers). One will know within the first 2 months of taking the therapeutic dosage if it has worked. There's retail sellers on the Internet, but I can't vouch for any. Just use a search engine.

Turmeric

In desperation I tried turmeric for a very large and painful abcess I had on my inner thigh. I've had problems with a boil there before and took 1 teaspoon of turmeric in water or milk 3 times a day. Day one the pain started to subside greatly... By day two it was shrinking and by day three it was about 75% smaller!! I'm amazed and relived BUT what I found to be extraordinary is that I noticed I have used my rescue inhaler for asthma only once in the time I started taking the turmeric. I am on an oral medication for asthma but still must use my rescue inhaler several times a day. The relief in my asthma is truly a mircle treatment for me. I plan to use turmeric daily for asthma and will play around with the dosage to see what will keep it at bay for me. thank you Earth Clinic!!
