Milk of Magesia(Philips brand ex.) is an amazing mask to draw out the impurities and treat acne. You can use this mask once a week or daily for very oily skin. It has done wonders for my skin. It works much more effectively than any clay mask etc. You can use Philips Milk of Magnesia brand or any store brand works fine. Shake up well and apply. The consistancy is liquid, but will dry and harden quickly. Then rinse. The milk combined with the baking soda scrub that has been mentioned previously by others is an effective combination to treat acne. You simply mix the baking soda with either water or a gentle facial cleanser and scrub in lightly, not too abrasively to irritate your skin. Because I have sensitive skin, I do not use both treatments on the same day, but it is up to your disgretion. Also another great remedy to treating acne is wiping H2O2 or your skin. My final tip is not a holistic remedy, yet is very effective: benzol peroxide, you can purchase this at any drugstore. You only use a small amount and gradually work up the frequency of application, because benzoyl peroxide can be very drying. Also, do not use hydrogen peroxide the same time that you use the benzoyl peroxie for this would be too strong for your skin. Hope this info helps someone. Good luck, this has been the trick for me.
Milk Thistle Extract clears teenage acne: I tried a few other things that had worked for my oldest son (thylox soap, oil pulling) and it didn't help with my youngest. So I got Milk Thistle Extract capsules and he takes 2 caps in the morning. Acne cleared up in about 10 days. Each capsule has 250 mg of Milk Thistle Extract standardized to contain at least 80% Silmaryin. The bottle says to take 1 cap 3 times a day, but 2 seemed to do it for him (he's less than 120 lbs.)
im taking a whole body cleanse that has Milk Thistle, and I'm just finishing my first week with it. so far im very happy I have lots of energy, and I haven't been breaking out. my face is starting to clearing up... I'm taking this cleanse to test to see if i would clear my acne, because when I went to Italy for 5 weeks my acne cleared up once I got back to CT I started to breake out all over again, and I eat pretty much everything organic, I even use organic toothhpaste, organic deodorant, and organic hair and face products. I started getting acne when I was about 13 or 14 I stop taking medication when I was 20 now im 23 and still have 3rd grade acne. I have gone to many dermatologists, and have gone on accutane. I became an esthetician and I took basic herbal studies to fine a cure. once I started to change my diet it has helped but it wasn't enough im still researching but im also finding out Brewer's yeast (available at GNC) helps cure acne I haven't tryed it yet but im planing on it after my cleanse which you can get also at GNC but the web sit for it is www.vt.wbclranse.com I recommend looking online for one that cost less. all I can say is research and fine what works for you because everyone is diffrent ex. my older brother took some mediction, and once he got off the medication he was clear and never broke out again, and he has no acne scarring you can't even till he suffered from acne. my older sister started breaking out when she was 15, and now she is 27 and still on medication, and she tried getting off, because its costing alot but she breaks out. don't give up and don't pick I've been really good about not picking and I dont have acne scarring thank god!
Milk Thistle cured my acne! I'm now 21 and have had acne for a few years. After many trips to the dermatologist, I was prescribed Accutane which gave me acne-free skin for about a year. I then did acid peels which only made my skin worse. I was also put on birth control - that didn't help either. After lots of research, I finally decided it was time to attack the CAUSE of acne, and not the actual problem. For those of you who don't know it, acne is the cause of a poor functioning liver. If the liver is not functioning properly, acne forms (these are the toxins trying to get out of your body). Therefore, MILK THISTLE is a great natural herb that promotes healthy liver function by getting rid of the damaged liver cells, and creating new, healthy ones. I have not had a pimple since I started taking it, but be patient, it could take up to two weeks for you to see great results! Also, I take the liquid herbal extract - about 30 drops in a glass of water, twice a day.
Milk Thistle has SIGNIFICANTLY improved my acne and hopefully cured it. I have not had any breakouts since I started taking the supplement to cleanse my liver. It has been about three weeks and my face is completely clear minus a few scars that I am still trying to fade. YOU WILL SEE HUGE RESULTS IN YOUR FIRST WEEK. This product has worked wonders for me. I have tried many so-called cures (prescription drugs and over-the-counter) but none has given me the results that I have seen thus far. PLEASE TRY IT. I take two capsules daily which are 175mg each. It is very inexpensive and I am confident you will be very pleased with the outcome.
I am in my mid-twenties and I am not an acute acne sufferer, however in the past year I have had my second terrible breakout. I realized the cause of these random breakouts was due to poor-diet with a high sugar intake that exacerbated my skin. My onslaught include using different holistic methods simultaneously to achieve the best and effective results. It requires patience and commitment but it definitely helped clear my skin and I was able to regain my healthy, bright complexion.
It took about a month and a half to achieve clear, smooth skin. The results aren't instant and it took few weeks to actually see the effects from my natural remedies.
My regime included:
- a healthy diet (minimal sugar or foods high in saturated fat)
- drinking green tea each morning
- 1-2x a week lemon/cinnamon/honey mask
- 2-3 x a week using baking soda masks (baking soda + a dab of water on acne and rubbing circular motions then washing off in 5 minutes)
- rubbing lemon on my face
- drinking water and lemon slice before bed
- Apple cider vinegar toner (ration of one part ACV and two parts water
- In addition, the acne medication I used to attack the acne bacteria were a benzoyl peroxide face wash + spot treatment cream.
Good luck, and continually seek out natural remedies that work best for your skin type!
My two daughters used this formula For acne...you can try this If you want..Take one to two tbsp of brewers yeast, one to two tbsp lecithin granules or two caps, one tbsp cold pressed safflower oil. Take with milk, nonfat dairy milk, or apple juice.
to remove acne scar, apply a thin layer aloe Vera gel (cut the leaves close to the ground) over the skin twice a day for as long as it takes. In addition, use a natural fruit peel to continuously exfoliate and encourage new skin.
I just had to share my experiences and results with this wonderful community who finally helped me get a handle on my acne.
I am in my early 30's and have struggled with face and body acne since my teens. I was put on a wide variety of drugs for a good part of my 20's but I knew they were just a band-aid and not dealing with the root cause (and they were waay expensive). I finally went off of them a few years ago and have been trying one thing after another to get this under control.
After reading a bunch on your site at the beginning of this year this is what I have done:
* Take ACV every morning.
* Cook with coconut oil and drink in my tea throughout the day.
* Stop using my 'acne pads' that are very drying - I just learned from a former skin care consultant that these products are so drying that they can actually trigger the oil production response in your skin. What! That makes sense to me so I stopped about a month ago.
* Each night I wipe my makeup off with a gentle face wipe and then I wipe my T Zone with Hydrogen Peroxide. It makes my skin feel SOOO clear and dry and smooth
* Each morning after my shower I use a gently high quality moisturizer on my face.
* The only other thing I have done in relation to my skin is that I cut out the greek yogurt I was eating everyday.
Obviously I tried a lot of things at once so it is hard to tell what made the most difference. My heart tells me the biggest shifts came from the ACV the Hydrogen Peroxide and ditching the super-drying acne pads.
Now that I am 2 months into this process I can't tell you how different my face looks and feels. No more deep cystic acne. Significantly reduced pimples, smaller pores, and the redness from years of other pimples is starting to fade. When I get a pimple here or there it is gone quickly and isn't nearly as painful.
I do still believe I need to make more shifts in my diet for the acne to go away completely but I am SO pumped that these remedies are helping as much as they are. Thank you Earth Clinic!
I had moderate acne on my forehead when I hit puberty at the age of seventeen, but the doctor put me on birth control and it went away. Well, about a year and a half ago, I discontinued the birth control because of side effects and how much it cost. I am 21 now so I was on it for a good three years. When I did that, my face freaked out. A lot of people suffering from acne, especially in the older years, have hormonal imbalances.
I go to an Aveda school and they teach you the importance of cleansing your body inside and out and how important it is to use natural products and not synthetic ones. According to Aruveydic medicine, where you break out on your bady and face is where you are having troubles in your body (chin-hormones, like before menstrual. Forehead-intestinal upset, from food allergies or parasites. Cheeks- liver and lungs, could be from pollution, smoking, virus, bacteria)
So I went to a good doctor(not one trying to give me random medication) who did a lot of tests and it turned out I have a major hormonal imbalance (thank you birth control), multiple food allergies (gluten, dairy, peanuts, pork) and she also thought I might have a parasite build up (most people have parasites in their systems). Parasites can cause you to hang on to toxins and then cause you to break out. Food allergies can cause you to break out. Hormones can cause you to break out.
Bottom of the line, acne is your body's way of telling you that something is not right. And it is a bacterial infection once it occurs so you must treat it accordingly. I try to use as natural of face regime as possible because I am very senstive to synthetic chemicals, parabens, petrochemicals, and fragrance adn I always have been since I was an infant.
First I would suggest detoxing your body in some way, and STICKING TO IT! It will get much worse before it gets better, but stick it out.
You might need to get an antibiotic if your acne has gone septic, because then it could get into your blood stream and cause a lot of harm to the rest of your body.
Second, get a GOOD SKIN CARE REGIME.
I personally LOVE aveda and I use the 'botanical kinetics' line. Face washes made for acne irritate my skin and are too harsh. However, try different things out, everyone is different. But I highly reccomend natural or organic face washes. They are less likely to irritate your skin further. African black soap and tea tree oil are wonderful things to use to cleanse the face with. there are many products that contain these two in them at natural food stores.
ALWAYS CLEANSE TWICE! Use a gentle motion with you fingers and cleanser twice! The first time removes dirt, pollution, makeup, the second time insures nothign is left behind and gives your face wash a chance to work.
Next, exfoliate with a chemical exfoliant! Abrasive exfoliants are WAAAAYYY TOO harsh for acne skin and actually SPREAD THE BACTERIA AROUND and cause you to break out MORE! I made this mistake until recently when an esthitician explained to me how to properly cleanse the skin. Until your acne clears up more, you don't want to risk making your acne septic my spreading the infection. I put the exfoliant in a spray bottle and spritz it instead of rubbing harsh cotton on my face. THIS STUFF IS MIRACLE SPRAY. If you don't want to get the rest of the B. K. Line, at least give thsi stuff a try. it has a small % of saycilic acid in it to help kill bacteria and exfoliate dead skin cells.
Then, at night I just lightly pat moisturizer on my face. DO NOT RUB IT into your skin. This will also spread the bacteria around. I use the Botanical kinetics line BUT sometimes it can irritate some people's skin. It would be best to use 1-2 drops of ORGANIC jojoba and one drop of tea tree oil. Jojoba is the closet plant oil to sebum that our bodies produce and tea tree is the natural version of benzyl peroxide. It dries up acne and acts as an antiseptic.
In the morning I usually just spritz a toner (ORGANIC witch hazel works well. The B. K. Line has a toner with witch hazel in it already) and then lightly pat my moisturizer on my face, while it is still damp from the toner bc it will soak in nicer. I ALWAYS use sunscreen if I am going to be exposed to the sun. I like La Rosche Posay tourmaline spf60 and Neutrogena dry touch spf100. They both are extremly light and do not leave a greasy feel to the face.
I use a face mask once a week, depending on what my face needs. Sometimes I just use organic honey to heal my scars, kill bacteria and add moisture into my skin. Sometimes I use a clay and ACV mask. Aveda makes a mask in the Tourmaline line that helps reduce scarrign and it is very gentle. A mask just helps give more nutrients to your skin. BE VERY GENTLE when you do masks, you don't want to use anythign irritating or abrasive.
I spot treat my acne with staright tea tree essential oil. I have tried B. Perox and Say. Acid but they don't seem to be as effective. Just get a dropper and drop a couple of drops onto your finger and lightly apply it to the effected area.
SO, from doing this, I have noticed a HUGE improvement in my horrible cystic and the reoccurence there of. Get PLENTY of sleep, your body heals itself when you sleep. Drink water with ACV in it to help detox your body, and be very careful of what you eat, medicines and vitamins you take, and even products you use (laundry soap, perfume, lotion, soaps) these can all cause you to break out because they have a lot of synthetic chemicals in them that irritate the lymphatic system in your body. Usually, those with acne, less is more and be VERY GENTLE or you will irritate it more and cause scarring. I made that mistake... So learn from me, be very gentle! Washign twice helps remove all that makeup so you don't have to scrub so hard to remove it all!
And get your hormone levels checked out. That could be the root of all the evil. There are a lot of natural ways to help regulate hormones, although you may sometimes have to take another approach.
Hi! Over the last few years I've found my "cure" for pimples. First, remove the sources. I found that products (pomades, mouse, gels ect..even conditioner)on the part of my hair that touched my face/shoulders was garanteed to give me pimples. Hand creams and even some hand soaps would give me pimples if I touched my face! Use a hand soap that rinses clean.
Here's my regimen: I wash with pure (saponified) oil soaps, scented with natural oils. Then, as a toner, you can use 3% h2o2 (carefull not to touch brows or eye lashes, it will bleach it, trust me).
Moisturiser? A big culprit in causing pimples. For over 15 years now my favorite has been jojoba oil. It's the only one that actually will keep the sebum flowing instead of clogging pores. Sebum (aka oily skin) will harden, clog pores, cause painful pimples.
What I use when I get the ocasional pimple (or should I say the start of one, deep/painfull or otherwise)? The best that I've found was simply mixing a bit of unpasturized honey with plain witch hazel (any pharmacy carries it). The ratio is about 1 to 8. If it's too sticky, where makeup won't go on properly, dilute some more. It's quite watery. Keep in a small bottle. Will last a long time. Rub on pimples 2-3 times a day to stop them from even coming to the surface. Honey is antibacterial and moisturizing. You don't get the awefull red/drying flaking effect of most acne creams. Keeps it from getting infected.
I also always had a problem with pimples on my back, chest and arms. Solution? A good old fashion body brush. Go figure!! As long as I regularly brush my skin (when it's dry) with a plant fiber body brush, I have clear skin! The brushing removes the dead skin cells that (you guessed it) BLOCK YOUR SKIN PORES!!! Shower AFTER brushing to wash away the dead skin.
What have I learned? Pimples occur when your skin is trying to remove toxins from you body and it can't find an exit because of CLOGGED PORES!!!
PS: I'm curious to see if this works for anyone else...
I've had acne on my cheeks and jaw line for over a year tried multiple things. I'm a vegetarian and I read that zinc deficiency can cause acne. So I started taking Zinc 50 mg 2x daily and I also stopped drinking milk because I read that milk is indigestable by the body and causes toxicity. I take two showers a day so I started washing my face with about 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, while in the shower and would allow it to sit on my face for a couple minutes then I would rinse it off. Once out of the shower I would a splash organic apple cider vinegar on my face and let it air dry. My acne is now completely gone my skin is glowing and clear. I hope this remedy helps someone like it did me.
I have had problems with increased dryness, increased wrinkles and rough skin on face and neck after treatment using ACV, HP and Borax plus teatree/lavender oil for breakouts of rosacea which I previously had under control for a while but now it's back- I am injesting coconut oil through cooking- I am also using aloe vera to moisturise skin and yoghurt face masks- this helps reduce roughness/dryness. I have been doing Mini beet protocol for two months to try to help skin issues- some improvement but I need to do this longer term I think. I do have a lot of energy from MBP.
Best of luck.
Skin issues take a while
Better But With Side Effects
This is a desperate question to Ted.,
I have been reading and loving this website for a while now. and have been using many of the remedies suggested here like ACV Molasses and OP. I have also been using Lecithin granules as per Ted's suggestion for acne. And doing urine therapy. (for at least 4 month now)
However, while my acne and melasma have somewhat improved and my energy - greatly improved, I have developed a strange side effect to which I can not find the reason or a cure.
The skin on my neck looks like lizard skin and it feels terrible, do dry as if it's about to crack. Also the skin under my eyes has worsened and I have a lot more wrinkles.
This question is for Ted, please help me find out what could be causing this, I feel so old because of this "new" look and it seems to be getting worse fast!

I am amazed people! I had old depressed acne scars on my face and was very discolored. Four days after doing the first of five Fraxel laser resurfacing treatments, I broke out in new acne and sandpaper type bumps under the surface of my skin. I stopped using the creams the Doctor gave me and went to this routine:
I wash my face in plain baking soda, then I put raw organic honey, cinnamon, sea salt, a splash of lemon juice and a splash of ACV in the palm of my hand-mix it together and spread it on my face.I leave it on ten or so minutes while I drink a Tbls. or so of ACV in water, rinse my mouth in baking soda and brush my teeth. Then I rinse my face off in tepid water and dry.
I have a spritz bottle that I filled half with lemon juice and half with ACV and a little distilled water so it wouldn't sting and I spray my face with that.
Then I have another bottle filled with Lavender, tea tree, grapeseed and helychrisum oils that I spray on and let air dry.
I cannot tell you people what a miracle this is! My face is looking beautiful! It cleared up the acne and surface bumps in less than two days. I wake up to tight, smooth soft skin. My tone and texture are amazing. I never wear makeup anymore. I swear by this stuff!!! I love also what the fraxel is doing for my scars and color. I have only had one treatment so far and the results will take longer to be complete, but I will never use anything on my face again that you can't eat. I go in for my next laser treatment this week, and the first thing I will put on my red swollen face when I get home is honey. Honey, ACV and Lemon juice are fantastic! My teenage daughter is doing this same routine and has gone from a pimply to perfect complexion in under a week. We love it!
Hi everyone! first I wanted to say that I love this site and have found it very helpful for minor skin ailments. I am 24 and have always had fairly decent skin, al ittle on the dry side, easily scars, and prone to pimples and have tended to over due it in the product department. In the past couple of months I have developed mild acne probably due to hormonal changes..so i checked with this website and have put together my own skin regime I have found very successful and would love to share with all of you! First I use an all natural but basic bar of soap with as few additives as possible (I happen to use a brand handmade in california called Beesworks as I have found the products to be really gentle and effective, plus they smell great and are all natural and organic! but on that note im sure any natural organic soap would work) About every other day I mix in about one table spoon of baking soda into the soap lather and gentle massage into my face, especially focusing on the problematic areas. The key word here is GENTLY as i have found the if I over scrub or use the baking soda on my skin too often it can be harsh and drying, otherwise it works great in healing my acne. Then i rinse with cold water and after patting my skin dry I splash apple cider vinegar on my skin as a toner, then finish with pure vitamin E as a moisturizer and to heal my acne scars. the ACV is not the nicest smelling toner and the Vitamin E can be a little sticky so I usually save this regime for nighttime before bed and in the morning just stick to the bar of soap and a natural moisturizer. An alternative to the ACV is just plain lemon juice and i have found this more pleasant smelling, but not as effective as the ACV. A couple of times a week I do a homemade mask of yogurt and honey. This makes my skin so soft and dewey and also helps with the acne. The best part about this regime besides how effective it is, is its cost! It happens to be really affordable so stop buying those fancy expensive skin care products ESPECIALLY if they have ANY chemicals in it and experiment with natural ingredient instead until you find a regime that works for your particular skin type.
